Preferred Solution: v200 type 0764-27s freeze when i shutdown.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: v200 type 0764-27s freeze when i shutdown.

Check event log for details - what happens while shutting down. And here's tip - why not to use hibernation instead of shutdown? I always do. It's faster and helps in some situations. You also can tune it to act on power button.

Originally a Vista-based laptop, I rewrote Windows 7 on it. Rescue and Recovery worked once or twice, but I had to reinstall Windows again and now, when starting up the setup file, it gives me a message (before installation commences) that (not in as many words) "This version of Rescue and Recovery can only be installed on select Lenovo computers". As said, my machine's 0764-32G, I've installed the System Interface Driver and Hotkey drivers - in fact, I can't think of any driver that I haven't yet installed. I've even installed the Hotkey Update with the newer System interface driver. Now... is there any way of forcing setup to continue? It's rather sad my laptop would have two keys non-functional anymore from the BIOS (the other being the InstantON key)

Answer:Rescue and Recovery doesn't install on V200 0764-32G / Windows 7

Hi, try to reinstall your os.and then try installing rescue and recovery.

Right, the problem as it stands:

I have a Lenovo 3000 v200 0764-32G Laptop, which came preloaded with Vista.
"Downgrading" to XP, I discover it needs a 3rd party AHCI driver, which of course I require a floppy drive to install. Acquired an external floppy drive, downloaded the AHCI driver, got a floppy and everything was going smoothly... And then I got to the point where setup actually starts installing things (just past formatting), when it refuses to recognise the external floppy drive (which up until that point it has no problems with).

Anyone got any suggestions for possible ways around this?

Answer:Solved: Lenovo 3000 v200 0764-32G - Can't complete XP installation

See "Common Problems" in this Wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Host_Controller_Interface

If possible set the BIOS to use IDE mode for the hard drive, and then try the installation again. AHCI should only be needed for RAID which you do not have.

Hi, I need help with my My Lenovo 3000 V200 laptop. Now the machine cannot reboot or shutdown normally, so I have to press the power button long enough to force it to power off. I tried to remove the harddisk from the machine and turned the machine on. It detected no OS and so I pressed control + alt + del trying to restart the machine. However, the power light didn't turn off and I had to press the power button long enough to force the machine to power off. The laptop can sleep and hibernate. Would it be some kind of hardware problem? Or software problem? Would there be any solution to it? Thank you very much.

Answer:My Lenovo 3000 V200 cannot shutdown

hi hoktak,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Just to check, when you shutdown the machine, does it stall on the "Shutting Down" logo?
 - Link to picture

If it does, can you try the following:
1. Remove any peripherals connected to the machine (eg. USB flashdrives, printers, etc.)
2. Boot in Safe Mode and try to shutdown / restart the machine and observe.

Also, AFAIK if you the "press CTRL+ALT+DEL" on the screen, this will do a soft restart and will not power off the machine (if there's a hardware failure during POST, there should be a beep code with an error code as discussed in this article)

Regards

First you need to check the keyboard driver status in device manager. And if possible you can reinstall the keyboard driver as well. You can also go to in safe mode to check the key board.

Hello all,
For a long time now, I've been having issues with Explorer.exe and the built in apps (cmd, notepad, not wordpad interestingly) freezing when I type anything. Now, this only happens when I first boot up my computer, for the first 10 minutes or so. During this time I'm reduced to using Chrome to surf the web or making batch files to run commands.

I know for a fact that this is not an issue with my keyboard. I tried using the on-screen keyboard, and when I manually type stuff in with my mouse it will still freeze. I'm pretty sure it also happens when I boot into safe mode, but I'll check to be sure. [Update- looks like it doesn't happen when I boot into safe mode]

FWIW I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1.

Thanks in advance!

Hello PudgyChicken,
Following on from what you said I suggest you continue troubleshooting this area before we move on elsewhere...

Safe mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly or that might prevent Windows from starting correctly.
If a problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.
If a recently installed program, device, or driver prevents Windows from running correctly, you can start your computer in safe mode and then remove the program that's causing the problem.

Hello,

I am not good with telling you what I have for a computer. I can follow directions, so if you can be patient and walk me through it step by step, I can do what you ask.

The problem I am having is when I'm using the internet and it could be anything (playing a game on Facebook, surfing retail sites, googling) at some point, and it is unknown when, the computer will lock up. My event viewer shows a lot of this error:

The entry <C:\USERS\*****\APPDATA\LOCAL\GOOGLE\CHROME\USER DATA\DEFAULT\CACHE\INDEX> in the hash map cannot be updated.

Context: Application, SystemIndex Catalog

Details:
A device attached to the system is not functioning. (0x8007001f)

**** = User Name

At first, it showed it being related to Firefox so I uninstalled Firefox thinking that was the problem. Now I see i am having the exact same problem in Chrome.

Eventually, if the problem happens when I am AFK for an extended period of time I will eventually BSOD with an error similar to:

IRQL not less or equal.

I have no idea how to figure out how to fix this. Please help. Thank you.

Question: Shutdown Freeze

Hi

I've got a bit of an issue with shutting down a PC. Basically when I come to shutdown the PC ('Start' > 'Shut Down'), after pressing the shut down button the PC hangs, and after 3-5 minutes regains itself and then goes to the shutdown options menu ('Shut Down', 'Log Off' etc).

The programs freeze too, however the PC itself is fine, as in the CPU and memory usage are average! Task manager works and responds fine.

Any Ideas?

Cheers

Hello, Ive been having this problem for awhile now. My computer has been randomly freezing up or shutting down on its own after minutes of logging in.
Ive monitored my computers temperatures and they are all at a safe temp. I don't understand why this is happening. Every time my computer freezes Ive noticed the HDD light stops flashing and stops making its usual clicking sound signifying that its thinking.
I believe that the PSU is failing me as it is cooler master and offers a very low wattage of 270 watts but I can't be for sure.

So my symptoms are happening after I log in. I have hardly anything 'bogging' down the system in startup and Ive scanned numerous times to see if this could be a virus and nothing shows up. Most of the time its just my computer freezing up but some rare occasions it might just up and shutdown then restart itself.

Please could somebody help me figure out what could be the problem and offer a solution. (I would like to not pay for my solutions to be solved)

Answer:Annoying Shutdown or Freeze up

Hi Morkintash,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

The hard drive making a clicking noise is not normal and typically represents a problem with the drive. Skip ahead to the hard drive testing procedures and try those first before you start the step which follows.

Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates. Use the recovery disk if the system prompt doesn’t work. The recovery disk works a bit different from the above procedures but if you follow the prompts from the System Restore menu option with the above information you should be able to restore with no problems.

If the System Restore doesn't work, do a Startup Repair by booting to the genuine Windows Vista Installation Disk (or one you can borrow from ANYONE) or from a Recovery Disk with recovery options included on it. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/91467-startup-repair.html. To boot to the CD you may need to change the BIOS to make the CD-drive first in the boot sequence. To do that, wait for the screen that tells you the F key to push to access the boot menu or boot ... Read more

I recently got a SSD and just installed Win7 on it. I had 99 windows updates which were installed yesterday.

When the updates were done and it restarted, I tried to sign on. The image and password box disappeared like normal, but I still saw the sign on page background and it never made it to the desktop, so I did a hard shutdown. I was able to sign in just fine after this. I played some games and a few hours later, I shut it down. It froze with the message "Shutting Down..." on the screen and never made it. Another hard shutdown.

I was able to sign in and shutdown just fine after restarting.

One thing to note is that I ran a theme patcher before the updates (wasn't aware they were being downloaded). This changes shsvcs.dll, themeui.dll, and uxtheme.dll. I'm assuming these aren't changed in the updates. Maybe they are.

I was wondering if anyone might know what caused this. Should I restore to before the updates? I'm going to check the error logs when I get home to see if something happened at either of these times. I'm thinking I might run "sfc /scannow" as well just to be sure.

tl;dr - Installing 99 updates. Wasn't able to sign on afterwards. Restarted and signed on, then the OS froze on the shutdown screen. No issues since. Any ideas?

Hello everyone,

I'm new to SevenForums, so I hope I've managed to follow all the steps necessary to get some help to resolve this annoying problem that has started happening in the past week or so.

Every time I shutdown my desktop, the screen freezes for around 4 to 5 minutes showing "Shutting Down" with the small blue animated circle spinning. Eventually, it BSD's saying "driver power state failure" and reboots.

Windows will then boot up fine, although give the usual "Windows has recovered from a serious error" message. I always allow this dialogue to connect to Microsoft for a solution, but it seems there is none.

For info, if I boot into Safe Mode, I can shutdown/reboot with no problem. I have tried various things today, such as disabling all startup items in MSConfig, but no joy after a reboot, it still hung. I've also updated my motherboard to the latest BIOS.

I will attach the zip file I have made from SFD to this post, any help from the experts out there would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Andy.

Hi, ive upgraded to Windows 8 Pro and it worked well for a while. But recently, i cant seem to shut my laptop down. After clicking on the shut down button, all it does is load the "shutting down" screen and it stays there forever.

Ive tried checking the other threads for solutions but none are working. (ive turned off that fast boot thing, uninstalled antivirus and spyware detector, disabled all startup tasks, and tried downloading the drivers i need)

just a note: i was having BSOD problems with Smb_driver.sys before and uninstalled it for the meantime. (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (Smb_driver.sys)) <--in case this helps.

WOuld love to be able to shut this thing down without manually holding the power button till it does.

This is a pretty popular question, I know...
The following are the steps I've taken thus far:
Set the ClearPageFileAtShutdown value to 0
Ensured the Network Cards have the Wake deselected
Utilized the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service
Flashed the BIOS to the most recent version
Removed all the viruses, spyware, and adware Norton, McAfee, PCTools, and Panda could find.
Defragged the drive...twice
Used CCleaner to fix registry issues
Removed all unnecessary programs, registry traces, and startup processes
Set AutoEndTasks to 1
Set EnableAutoLayout to 1
Set AlwaysUnloadDLL to 1

...and this is the point where my limited knowledge hits a brick wall. After all those steps and hacks, the restart/shutdown process still freezes at "Windows is now shutting down..."

Does anyone have any suggestions for covering a step I haven't? I'm trying to get the point where I can just reinstall the OS, but when the system won't restart......

Answer:Restart and Shutdown Freeze

I recently discovered that taking my battery out, and running the computer off an adapter makes it run surprisingly fast, but I'm still experiencing the restart/shutdown problem...I also discovered it occurs when I simply try to log off/switch profiles.
This computer works very well otherwise...once I get past this hump, it'll run like it's near-new...I don't like the prospect of leaving it on constantly...[lol]

Also, I'm sure it would help to know that I'm trying to fix an Acer Aspire 3620 laptop...friend bought it on eBay for $125...

I can see why they wanted to sell it.

Hello, as title my HP ENVY 15 freezes every time I shutdown it or I put it into sleeping mode. The LED light stays on and battery if connected is uncharged, so I have to hard shutdown the laptop every time. I have already tryed several solutions suggested from the forum, but unfortunately I am not able to install an older version of the Management Engine Interface. I have already disabled fast startup and changed a lot of settings that could cause trubles with the shutdown, but nothing has worked.Thank you for you help, any suggestion is welcome.

Answer:HP ENVY 15 freeze on shutdown

Hi, Try the following. Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane. In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, download the IMEI driver directly from Intel on the following link, unzip the package and run the installer. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26127/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NU... When the installation has completed, restart the notebook. When the machine has reloaded, re-enable Fast Start-up and reboot the notebook once again - let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

When I shut down or restart my PC, its started to freeze on the "Saving your settings" stage about 1 in every 3 times. The only solution is to turn it off manually and scream "Why do you make me treat you like this?!" at the top of my lungs... Anyone know of any specific reason why this might be happening? Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Freeze on shutdown

Probably due to a driver that is likely causing the hang up. You can try editing the System Configuration Utility and remove items that do not need to load during system startup. Just click on START, RUN, type in MSCONFIG, click on the START UP tab, then remove the check mark next to any item that does not need to load when your system starts up. This will not delete the item but only prevent it from starting when your pc starts. The program may be started manually when you need it by navigating to it from the START menu. Once you have completed your editing, click on APPLY then OK and restart. This process is totally reversible so no need to panic.

My T520 has a strange issue, though I think it has something to do with Windows. I'm on 64-bit Windows 7 Professional OS.This freezing thing happens randomly (for example when browsing internet, IM'ing etc. ,though I haven't experienced it while playing a game as Dirt 3 or watching some videos on YouTube or movies). What happens is the OS just freezes and you can't do anything (mouse, keyboard and all the Fn buttons don't work anymore). After about a minute the computer automatically shut downs and I have to switch it on again and use the 'Start Windows normally' screen. Is there a tool to run a report or scan for problems why the computer could be freezing like that?

ThinkPad T520 i5-2410M(2.3GHz), 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HD, 15.6in 1600x900 LCD, NVIDIA NVS 4200M 1GB?

Answer:OS freeze and force shutdown

I have the exact same problem with my T520. Support had it for three weeks and then did the usual, wiped the disc and loaded a new image. It worked about two weeks and then it started again. Recently received a new hard drive and did a clean install but it still frezes up.

Heya. This is odd, every now and then when I go to shut down, it will go to the blue screen and get stuck on saving settings screen. I have no idea what's causing it. The only way out is to nuke the power supply, and the drive makes an unsatisfying spinning down sound lol, it cant be healthy.

At first I thought it was my modem, but I updated the drivers and no change.

It seems to happen when the computer's been on for a while, it may be when I've been on the internet for a long time as well.

It's really p***ing me off now, it's been like this for over a year, and I never had this problem with windows ME (but I had about a million others lol).

Also I get partial lockups. Ill be on the computer, and I'll maybe open media player or something else... It wont start, I click it a few times, no difference. So I go and load something else to see if its just a media player fault, that wont load either. But the strange thing is, any programs already open will work fine, ie I can still use photoshop etc, it just seems like it wont load anything else. I thought my HD was dead at one point.

So then I find myself frantically hitting ctrl alt delete... nothing

then suddenly everything flies open, media player, internet explorer and about 17 task managers, and this happens even when there is no processor load.

I've triggered it a few times by clicking the new email alert as msn messenger signs in, sometimes it'll freeze li... Read more

Some services or drivers do not always end properly (mainly video) nad therefore you get the screen freeze. From what you say it is nothing to be worried about.

My W2K laptop hangs on shutdown after going through what must be most of the shutdown process. I've eliminated everything that shows in the Startup folder as being the app that is hanging, and I've cleared the task list before shutdown with the same result. Is there any way to prevent selected items from loading on startup (similar to MSCONFIG) without editing the registry? (WKWKST is asking the same question over here, darn I miss "Track this thread"!!) Or is there another way to determine the culprit application?

Answer:Shutdown problems / MSConfig type thing in W2K?

But you have to use a third party program called 'Startup Cop' for Win2K. It's not the greatest program (ugly), but it does the job. Worked for me.

My computer typically works 24x7. Well, X200 did. X201 takes a vacation every week. With X201 every once in a while, when I come to my computer in the morning and turn on the external monitor, it's either no signal, or there's a frozen picture. I've traced at least some of these instances to day and time where Intel SSD Toolbox is having a scheduled run. I think this has something to do with TRIM. The computer left at evening has about 50Gb of free space on the HDD. When I come in the morning and hard-reboot my PC (by holding the power button for more than 4 seconds), it has about 1.5Gb free and some weird files in the C drive's root folder. I then launch Intel SSD Toolbox and it cleans for itself. Literally. I don't even have to press any buttons there. It's just magically all back to 50Gb of free space. Now, needless to say, this all is very bad: I had lost some documents, plus hard-reboot is never a good thing. I'm also not sure how bad this all is for HDD, since I suppose the whole system freezes right in the middle of maintenance. It makes me think of interrupting  the car service right in the middle of oil change. A couple of days I had a case where I would hard reboot my computer and it won't start. It simply didn't recognize the HDD (SSD). I would turn it off, unplug it, let it chill for a min, and turn it again. This helped. But it's scary and not very convenient. Makes me think of the reliability of the whole thing.  In essense, I had a... Read more

So, I'm having just the strangest computer freezes and shutdown problems with my 5 month old computer. About a month ago, my surge protector failed and ruined my power supply. Took my computer to a local shop and said he had the weirdest issue with booting my system he'd ever seen. After a lengthy trouble shooting, he surmised that the hard drive itself was somehow affected as he could boot with any other functioning hard drive but not the one I had. Otherwise, no damage.

I got it back, paid for a new power supply and hard drive and re-install windows and everything seems okay for 3 hours as I'm setting up. I finish, start Minecraft, and the computer freezes. Not a BSOD but a total freeze. Nothing moves or responds. I turn off the computer and now there is a whine or squeal coming from the computer when the power supply is on. I can't tell if it's coming from the CPU or Mobo or where ever. The sound is drowned out when the computer is operating. Otherwise, no other strange noises.

Now whenever I get past login, the computer will either freeze or suddenly shut down whenever any program begins to run. Google, skype, start menu, etc. I start safe mode and it functions correctly. No freezes or crashes. I reset the system to before I installed a bunch of stuff to see if it what kind of problem I may have and it seemed to fix it for about an hour. When I installed the driver for my graphics card the computer froze again and the problem returned. I've... Read more

The first thing you should do is completely uninstall Firefox, then reinstall with the latest version from HERE.

It would seem that the xpcom_core.dll problem is caused by Firefox.

Hello all,I bought 15 Thinkcenter for my school. All are under windows 7 and the problem I've on some of them is that sometimes (maybe especially after a windows update), they freeze on shutdown. The screen is black with just the mention 'Shutting down' and that's all. The only way to go on is pushing the button severa seconds to force it to stop. I already tried to let them more than one day but they're really frozen. If someone has an idea .. Per advance, thanks for your helpRegards

My B50-70 doesnt shut down entirely after a period of time. The screen is dark but I can hear the fan and the green power button is still alight. I have to manually shut it down. I already turned off fast-boot option in windows 10. Already checked any problems with drivers and all are uptodate. Already tried the refresh option in windows 10. Didn't fix the problem And there is anothe freeze when I lock it down (energy-saving state) for a period of time and it just freezes. None of the buttons or touchpad are working and the display is dark. I only can shut it down and restart. And according to my lenovo status on my laptop it only has a warranty until june although I bought it new in december. It says it was activated in june 2015. Who can I contact with to solve this problem ? Specs: Windows 10 x64 , I3-4030U,4GB RAM, HD-4400,500GB HDD. With best regards,TheOneAli

Hi TheOneAli ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Did the machine came with Windows 10 when you purchased it back in December ?
How was it if you run diagnostics .

For now what you can try are steps here to fully shutdown windows 10 aside from fast start up and see if that would help.

Regards to the warranty lookup , if this is a mismatch then have your receipt scanned for manual update with the tech guys.  Click here to the support site for Lenovo contact number for your model.  You may also have them check further for recommended steps specially if the above steps failed.

Hope this answered your query, update us as it goes.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks in advance for any answers.

When I shutdown my computer (Windows 10 Pro) sometimes I receive the normal shutdown screen and the PC shuts down no problem. But the majority of the time, the computer either freezes (Mouse stops and the spinning dots in the middle stop) and I have to shutdown via the power button or as soon as the shutdown screen appears the PC will restart. Note the PC does not freeze or restart unless I try to shutdown the PC.

Now I have gone into Event Viewer and when it does freeze or restart, it states that a kernel-power event ID 41 Task Category 63 critical error has occurred. I have had Windows 7 mainly running the PC and just recently updated it again after the same restart or freeze issue occurring before. Whether it is a clean install or a upgrade install it still results in freezing or restarting.

With Windows 7, the computer had no restart or freezing issue.(Only Windows 10 seems to cause the freezing or restart)
The CPU is overclocked to 4.5Ghz(Temperature is not hot, stays under 50 degrees Celsius)
Whether the CPU is overclocked or not, the freezing or restarting still happens.
Currently the CPU is running at default.

I have tried to restart in safe mode and shutdown from there, still freezes or restarts
I have tried to limit startup items and services through msconfig.
I have removed the overclock and cleared the BIOS settings back to default multiple times.
I have tried a clean install of Windows 10 Pro.

I really want to... Read more

Hi I've been experiencing very frequent freezes then shutdown without BSOD. The mouse and running applications just freeze, and if I have audio on, the sound will crash into noise, then a few seconds later, the PC shuts down.
I thought it maybe overheating but I put a large fan directly on the mobo, and the temp is around 50-60
the components are rather recent, well at least the computer shop replaced most components recently, but I don't know how long they've been sitting on the shelf
only the hard drive is older.

it can happen 4-5 times a day, or I can go a day or 2 without it happening. I usually leave the PC on all the time.

Answer:Frequent and random freeze and shutdown

You might want to check if something any of the hardware components are overheating too much. For monitoring the heat/celsius of the system, use Speccy or HWinfo:Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Sometimes after freezing up the system and turning off and attempting to turn back on, the USB audio device will no longer light up. What I have tried:Re-installing the chipset drivers, USB drivers, and trying several installs of different software and drivers for the USB audio unit.Ensuring all settings are correct in the BIOS and changing the USB connection with other various ports on the ThinkCentre.Tried different sample rates on the USB audio device; it seems that a media player will occassionally play an audio file correctly with certain sample rates (96khz), but only through a file/media player and not through a browser/youtube.Short of re-installing WIndows 7 from scratch and not installing the USB 3.0 driver for the ThinkCentre, I don't know what else to do to get the USB audio device work properly again.  I think the issue lies in a software bug with the latest USB 3.0 driver for the ThinkCentre.  I also had previously updated my BIOS, but the USB audio worked fine up until I installed the USB 3.0 driver.  I suspect there might be a software setting that could be adjusted ... I have had my u410 for two months now, and I'm enjoying it except for a few problems with it shutting down/freezing when I do certain actions. For some reason, if I'm on battery on any power mode, when the screen blacks out for a few minutes, the computer will freeze or become unresponsive.  The power button is lit.  The front two LEDs are lit.  The computer will not respond to me clicking the touchpad or hitting any buttons.  It's like the computer is frozen as it's trying to go into sleep mode because I haven't touched it in a long time.  This happens fairly frequently when I'm studying a book in front of my laptop and I haven't touched it for a while.  The only way I know how to fix it is to hold the shut down button and turn it off manually and restart it.  This makes the boot up slow. At other times, when I shut the lid of my computer to make it go into sleep mode, something weird happens.  When I try to access it later by opening the lid, the computer has actually shut down improperly instead of going to sleep like it should.  I think this happens more frequently when I'm leaving class and unplug my charger right before closing the lid.  So instead of doing the normal "1 second resume", I have to boot the computer from scratch.  And since it was an improper shut down, the boot time is a lot longer than normal.  This is very frustrating to me. As a side note, I did remove the smart update software... Hi,

I'm running Windows 7 Home Ultimate 64 bit.
My problems started few weeks ago, supposedly after I have installed the latest version of my antivirus (AVG 2014). I have uninstalled it, but the problems stay.

Here are the problems :

- Volume Shadow Copy hangs. When I run 'vssadmin list writers' just ater the boot, everything is ok. But when I run some application using Volume Shadow Copy (like Macrium Refect, or other backup software ...), it hangs and the same 'vssadmin list writers' shows many writers in error (timed out).

- windows won't shut down : the session closes well, but then it hangs on shutdown (I've waited for more that 12h !) and I have to power it off.

- SFC hangs : It hangs from the very begining - not even a single line stating it has started (no use asking me sfc logs : there is no log !). When I run the "resolve problems" mode (at boot time) and try to run sfc then, it starts and then immediately tells the system repair needs shutdown to complete - but as the computer can't shut down, I'm stuck .

I have run chkdsk. First it hanged too. I then ran it successfully in the "Resolve problems" mode and (for now) it's ok.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Shutdown, SFC, and Volume Shadow Copy freeze

AVG always leaves leftover files (some drivers) which are as problematic as the program itself.

And, after the uninstallation, it is difficult to find out the leftovers, but we may have a try. You upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

Hello All,

I have been trying to fix my shutdown issues for a while. I have written a thread about fixing a shutdown issue relating to the NVIDIA service here how to solve shutdown problem caused by NVIDIA service

regardless of that issue, i sometimes get the "waiting for background programs to close" with nothing showing, then suddenly it says: 1 program still needs to close: (waiting for) Program manager. (i have no idea what this is or how to manually kill it)

It just stays like that for maybe 5 minutes then goes to the shutdown screen. Sometimes i only get the "waiting for background programs to close"for 5 seconds then it shuts down.

overall i have been having slow shutdowns. The blue "shutting down" screen takes 5 minutes sometimes.

i already checked my event logs for event IDs with 200. most of them come up as Microsoft services. i also defragged and used CC cleaner. i do not have the M Audio driver issue nor AVG or Norton (i use NOD 32).

i also tried to change the wait to kill registry hack. i think it made it worse. i tried it twice.

do any of the windows updates cause such issues. I hate updating my windows system. Always seems to cause problems.

I'm running windows 7 ultimate 32.

any help solving this would be great.

Thanks

Have tried updating all drivers and the system bios, which has seemed to reduce the frequency of the freeze and shutdown, and searched for solutions on the net but I seem to be going round in circles. Please assist me in finding out what the problem is and how i could fix it. I have attached the necessary files.

First of all, here's my notebook specs:
Code:

Dell Inspiron 3420 (i3)
Intel Core i3-3110M Processor (3M Cache, 2.40 GHz)
Windows 7 Ultimate
2GB DDR3 1333Mhz
IntelŪ HD Graphics 4000 + NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M 1GB DDR3 graphics with Optimus
14.0 inch LED Backlit Display with True Life and HD resolution (1366 x 768)
2.0W speakers w Waves MaxxAudio 3
500GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)

I was watching a movie. And then, while it was playing in the background, I opened a web page. When I came back to the movie, everything freezes, and my speaker played a very noisy static. I forced it to shutdown by holding the power button.

Trouble came when I turned it back on a minute after. I decided to start Windows normally. The startup was very slow, and after that everything slows down heavily. My desktop loads perfectly fine (Even the widget clock was working fine). My cursor moves smoothly, but I can't seem to click on anything (I confirmed that my mouse works fine). I can't even get inside a folder. I clicked on the Start button and nothing happened (except that it flashes when my cursor moves over it).

I tried going into safe mode. The startup was still slow, but a bit faster than before. Then I tried playing the movie I was watching. It runs fine (albeit with of course heavily reduced graphic, and no sound).

Help?

System (Win7 64bit) failed to boot. "Windows failed to start" message. Used utilities disk to run hardware diagnostics. No fault found. Restored using Acronis, going back couple of days, to hopefully pre-date any possible virus (had done scan around then). System up & running OK. Ran full malwarebytes scan, to be sure I had pre-dated anything nasty. Then I thought I should re-boot, to make sure it would.
I then got the following message, that I've not previously seen. "Operation in progress. Please wait. System will turn off automatically after operation is complete".
After an hour, it still said the same thing. After another hour, I gave up and forced shutdown. I restarted in safe mode. No problem. Restarted normally. No problem.
All appears to be OK, but can't help thinking something is waiting, in the wings, to jump up and bite me.
Is there diagnostic, I can run, or anything else, to either find a hidden issue, or reduce the risk?
Many thanks.

A client has been complaining about hanging and freezing upon shutdown.

The screen is the normal blue screen (not BSOD just the standard Windows 7 shutdown screen) with a "windows 7 professional" at the bottom and the little circle that says "shutting down" in the middle.

This started happening to my machine as well - so I'm wondering if it's related to a Java update or something similar. Either way I'd like to know what it is and how to fix.

Any thoughts/ideas appreciated.

Thx.

Hello,I have had my W520 for about a month now and I have started experiencing several issues with the laptop. 1. MS Outlook 2010 will freeze up and will "not respond". I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and end task to get it to close... but then the "Outlook" Process will still be running under processes and I can't kill it. 2. Explorer will also freeze up on me. 3. After either of these issues occur, I cannot Restart or Shutdown my computer without having to hard reset. Has anyone been having issues like this? I have updated all of my drivers, windows updates, reinstalled MS Office completely 3x and I still have the same results. Please help!

(Copied from here: http://forums.techguy.org/general-security/834903-mcafee-keeps-turning-itself-off.html
where they asked me to post a HiJack This Log.)

I'm running McAfee Security Center on Windows XP, and I've already checked for all updates and I'm up to date. McAfee turns itself off every few hours, spontaneously, without me doing anything in particular (it's happened sometimes while I'm using FireFox, sometimes while I'm watching videos, and sometimes when I'm in the other room). The amount of time isn't consistant as well, with the shortest being 20 minutes, the longest being at least a full day.

I'm really confused and I'm tired of seeing a bubble pop up every few hours saying "Your computer is not protected!". I'm guessing I've got a trojan of some form, which is frustrating because I just got rid of the 7.7.7.0/google-redirect nonsense with HijackThis and Malwarebytes'. Doubley annoying because I'd never gotten any form of virus/trojan before this last month, even though my internet habits haven't changed any... I'm also a little Windows-dumb at the moment since 90% of my computer use in the last three years has been Ubuntu.

When I click on McAfee when it says I'm not protected, it says I'm not protected on "Computer and Files" and "Email and IM", so I'll promptly hit "fix" and everything will be hunky-dory for a few hours.

I was simply moving files in Explorer when the system suddenly froze. The only thing I could do was to literally pull the plug. On re-plugging, Windows immediately started to reboot. However, it didn't complete. I rebooted by unplugging again and restarted in Safe Mode. I ran HJT and scanned with Malwarebyte's AntiMalware. It found two entries in Start which I asked it to remove. Again, it wouldn't shut down properly and I had to unplug/replug. Windows rebooted but nothing was accessible. I rebooted into Safe Mode but found that it too froze after a while. I noted that it froze when I tried to close a window, though I'm not sure if that wasn't coincidental. I'm loath to keep rebooting because I'm worried I may be spreading a boot virus, or something. I'm not even sure if it's a virus. Any urgent help would be much appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I recently got a PC that my office was getting rid of. The PC was in great shape and I was told it worked fine when they gave it to me. They ripped out the hard drive and gave me the machine.
As soon as I got it, I put a brand new 2Tb Seagate HDD in. I also replaced the existing RAM (2x1Gb sticks) with 2x 2Gb sticks with the memory speed to match my motherboard. Finally I swapped out the ATI Radeon HD2900XT with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 460.
There was a sound card (PCI) I removed as well as a redundant fire-wire port I unhooked from the Mobo.
I then booted and performed a fresh install of Windows 7 32bit Pro. Everything seemed to be going fine... until I tried to shut down.

Windows would freeze on the Shutting Down screen. I mean freeze because the spinning circle would stop and the entire machine was unresponsive. I read online that pre-Service Pack 1 Windows 7 didn't like multi-core processors and would have issues shutting down, so I updated to SP1 (along with a bunch of other updates).

Now when I try to shut down, the Shutting Down screen disappears and the signal to the monitor ends, however the machine stays on. I can hear the fans running and see the lights to the PCI cards still on. Once again I have no option but to hold the power button until it shuts down.
I have looked up and down many forums with plenty of people posting, but none of their solutions worked...
One extra note I double checked every driver and they are all up to day. Also when ... Read more

Hello all, first time poster here. I have been dealing with a Windows 7 boot failure problem for a few days now and have not been able to find a resolution. I suspect that my hard drive may have failed, but I was wondering if I could get a second opinion. The boot failure problem started after my system froze and I had to force it to shutdown by holding down the power button. Upon rebooting, I was prompted to start either System Repair or the Safe Mode options. After I chose System Repair, the process started, but it seemed to hang intermittently and took at least 30-45 minutes to complete. During this time, I noticed that the hard drive LED on my computer case was lit solid. When System Repair did complete, it said Boot Manager missing or corrupt. So I have followed all of the steps to repair the Boot Manager and I can get Windows to start loading, but after the Windows logo animation closes the system seems to hang and I have the solid hard drive LED again. I restarted in Safe Mode, but it also hangs when trying to load disk.sys with a solid hdd light and will not progress further. So I went back into the recovery environment and tried to run a chkdsk on the Windows partition, and after 3% complete it displayed the following:

Answer:Unable to boot Windows 7 after system freeze and forced shutdown

I no expert but the first thing I would check is the boot order in the bios. Set the bios to default.
Then make sure your ssd with Windows 7 is the first boot.
I sounds like it's trying to boot from the hard drive instead of the ssd.

You could also unhook the hard drive and see if it will boot from the ssd.

A 32 gig sse with Windows 7 doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room.

Please read this tutorial by Bare Foot Kid. I gives some helpful information.

hi,  my daughter's edge type 0217 has very reproduceable hardware problem. It occurred the first time when she just handed over the runnin laptop. you accept it holding it on a one of its corners, en ooops, it shuts down. Now I discovered that there is a specific spot on its bottom that has this sudden shutdown effect. Just push there with one finger, absolutely not hard, and the PC shutsdown as if the battery were taken out, or a hardware reset button were pushed. She tells me il also occors when it is flat on a table, and the table shocks or vibrates.  Anything I can do against that ? Jan

Answer:hardware problem: sudden shutdown of Thinkpad ege type 0217, when pushed on the bottom

Is it a proper shutdown (all tasks shut down, windows says it's powering off) or just loss of power, ie laptop goes black right away. Edit: Your posts seem to indicate the latter. If it is so, you should take it to a service center/warranty repairs.

I have a new (to me) computer and had to install windows xp pro sp2 from a 2 yr+ old disc, and set automatic updates to download but not install. I went about installing and tweaking programs, getting updates and dl's etc. I did so much that I'd hate to use a restore point, 'cuz in a previous infestation it did not work. When I try to shutdown it says installing 1 of 87 updates, says it is shutting down windows and freezes, on the 2 or 3 times it did not freeze, it says it has 85 updates to install. went to windows update site and I think I installed 34 updates, but not sure as I've never done it that way and no restart was necessary. not sure it is relevant but my usb mouse keeps freezing up between1-90 min into session, tried reinstalling drivers but it keeps hanging when it comes to updating registry. I have a backup PS/2 mouse. I also use soulseek 156c client that, altjough I haven't used it in a week or so kept requiring me to reset modem every 1-6 hrs, but since not using it this problem has gone away. I've used WinASO Reg. Optimizer, but went and restored all the way back to its setup, then used Mcafee to clean registry. I use the entire mcafee suite and also use spybot s&d. I hope this is enough information (and not too much) and would like to send TIA to whoever will take my case. http://www.techsupportforum.com/imag...ies/1-grin.gif

I have a seagate external drive 1TB, for some reason all of a sudden its causing my system to freeze during shutdown process and also booting. The drive works i can access it but if i keep it pluged in and try to boot i get frozen at the blue hand screen until i unplug it, then PC will boot, its for backups so there should be no conflict with booting...

Answer:external hard drive causing system to freeze on boot and shutdown

i was able to get some of what i needed off the drive, but lost most of my backups as the drive kept freezing on me and i had to format the drive. I uninstalled it, and reinstalled it and that at first seemed to do it. But when i just tried to download a backup to the drive filezilla froze up again.

So something is def up with this drive and im not sure what, the smaller files it seems to have no problem with, but anything that is more than 1gb it just stops responding.

Any ideas, this drive is less than 2 years old, i think i got it early last year.

Hi

I have a persistent issue that is starting to get annoying... Portege 700 running Windows 7. Normal usage (Office, WMP, IE nothing heavy)

For no obvious reason (no new applications started for instance), there is a sudden increase in fan speed to what must be max (it sounds like it's taking off), and I suspect CPU usage at the same time. And that is that, it simply doesn't stop (I have left for some time on occasion) and does not respond to any input (mouse or keyboard). The only "solution" is to use the power button to force a shutdown. (And then have to lose all cookies etc etc when starting up again).

I have done a fair amount of googling on this. Thought it was WMP Network Sharing Service and took some action to see, but recently have disabled that service and still the issue is occuring... (I checked it was still disabled when just rebooted).

I also keep it as "clean" as I can (have AV installed, use ccleaner regularly etc etc) so would be surprised if a virus/worm, but am running a scan again just in case...

This is happening often enough to be a pain - and I have no idea what is causing it, so any thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

Tim

Hi abgil_27, that sounds like bad luck.  I would call Lenovo and get it fixed under warranty. If you are out of warranty you will have to pay for repairs. If you want to investigate yourself, the Hardware Maintenance Manual will help. There are also Lenovo training videos showing how to work on the V100, which I believe is very similar to the V200.

Is there anyway to disable this beep without muting or disabling the speakers? Will the v200 get a bios update like the ideapads that adds this option?

I ordered a Windows XP downgrade pack for my Lenovo 3000 V200(it came with Windows Vista Business pre-installed).The CD-ROMs I got is labled V100. Now to the question:Is the V200 similar enough to the V100 for the recovery to work? Will I have to upgrade most of the drivers after installing theWindows XP OS image? Glad for advice before starting the recovery procedure./Fredrik, Sweden

Answer:Different drivers V100 vs. V200?

hi before making the downgrade i hope you have created the recovery cd's for your vista system!..my guess is that only a fair amount of hardware changes might be present between the two system like you mentioned the drivers and stuff.. here is the link for your driver downloads  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-68014

I looked everywhere on the web, but no luck. Apparently, there in no OEM connector for this specific model available yet. I don;t wanna replace the system board, it's too expensive. On the pieces it say TYCO +07212. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Answer:Help: Where to buy a DC-IN power connector for my V200?

i think the connector would be the same as the one used in the thinkpad R6x,T6x,X6x systems.

I have a lenovo v200 notebook and very happy with it.I have found a lenovo 12.1" Lcd screen sxga+ on ebay and want to upgrade my wxga 1280*768 screen to sxga+ display to work easier on CAD applications. This screen is actually for Lenovo X61, would it suits to my computer? Thanks in advance

Answer:V200 LCD UPGRADE SXGA+ ?

Your V200 originally came with a 12.1" WXGA screen. Therefore you need a widescreen LCD. An SXGA+ screen is not widescreen. You need to find a 12.1" WSXGA+ LCD. However, consider the fact that a 12.1" WSXGA+ [1680x1050] screen wil be harder on your eyes. Especially if you use the laptop for extended periods of time.

I have a Compaq V200 laptop running XP with some issues. This happened while my 16 year old was using it and natually she has no idea what she did. When I turn it on it starts to the point where the wallpaper comes on, but nothing else. No desktop icons or anything. It stays that way for about 5-10 minutes then it suddenly continues starting. Also the battery was basically new, but wont charge or run on battery. Also when somethingis plugged into the USB it freezes the computer.

Thanks

Answer:problems with Compaq V200

My guess is the either of these two are wrong with the PC:

1.) Malware infection (have you checked for viruses recently?)

2.) Hardware problem such as motherboard issues or failure (rule out malware infection first as that seems the likely culprit)

Does your computer charge or run on battery power in Safe Mode?
