A57 sound from onboard speaker only; integrated sound jacks do not work.

Question: A57 sound from onboard speaker only; integrated sound jacks do not work.

Hello, first post, first Lenovo.I am a teacher. A Lenovo A57 9702 was donated to our school and I got it. It has a Vista basic sticker on it, but has been upgraded to Vista Business. I think it?s a brand new machine. My problem is that the only sound I get is from the onboard speaker. The front and back sound jacks are not outputting sound. Plugging in speakers or headphones won?t even cut out the onboard speaker sound; it?s like they are not even connected. If you have a clue, thank you!

Preferred Solution: A57 sound from onboard speaker only; integrated sound jacks do not work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: A57 sound from onboard speaker only; integrated sound jacks do not work.

I installed the A57 audio drivers. Afterward it said that they may not have installed correctly. It still does not work. Thank you.

Hi-
I can not get sound from my front jacks but I get sound through the internal speaker. If the rear jacks are enabled then they will work.

Device manager shows: 2 high definition audio devices (not realtek). One for the rear jacks and the other for ATPI Inernal ATPI jack. No playback device listed for the front jacks.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the devices but the front jacks wont install

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Answer:HP400 sound from internal speaker and rear jacks but not front jacks

High Definition Audio Drivers are only the generic, basic function, Windows installed sound drivers. They are not the full feature drivers that the hardware drivers provide. Check HP for a correct sound driver, if available.

ATPI (ATAPI) suggests this is an old Windows XP PC that was upgraded. There may not be any better drivers than the generic ones you have now.

Also check the front panel audio connection to the motherboard (reseat the connector).

Hi Everyone;
My del latitude 3440 sound had stop working since last year after connecting it to an external speaker listening to music. I tried system restore right after the moment it went off but does not do anything. I tried installing the audio drivers but still can't. I was assuming that it might be the hardware problem but don't really sure about it. Can anyone please remove the burden from me.
Regards..

Answer:No sound on audio jacks and internal speaker Del latitude 3440

Hi Sadsea,
Do you hear the Windows start-up tone when it's loading? Can you run the on-board diagnostics <F12> and capture any error message or codes.
Please click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your email address, so that we can check on the configurations.

Ever since I got my second Video Card and went SLI I have had crippling sound problems. After playing for a while all sounds get replace with a high pitched squeal. This is only with games, not music (using WMP), DVDs (using WinDVD), and only with my sound card, not the (crappy) onboard sound (which has no problem). Some games may play for three minutes, others for close to fifty before this consistently happens. It seems to be simply subsistuting all sounds with this annoying noise. I quit the game it goes quiet, but music is now affected and DVDs have NO sound. Single GPU works fine (either card, either PCI-E slot), sound card in either PCI slot still causes the problem. I recently got a newer, better sound card but it does the exact same thing. I think it may be either a video card issue, or the motherboard. Is it something to due with the way the video card handles sound? Or the motherboard? HELP!! I really like the improved graphics (on a relative budget) that SLI brings, and don't like being hobbled like this.

Tried Turning down Sound Card Acceleration with the old card, didn't help.

Hi! I just installed a new mother board and cpu. Its an ECS 755-A2 mother board with a 3200+ AMD Sempron/64-bit CPU. It's not the best, but i was trying to save money.

Before, I had a soyo and a 2800+ AMD Athlon XP and i had the Sound Blaster Live 5.1. Now with this ECS mb, the sound card doesn't get detected anymore, even in device manager. I downloaded the new driver for the Sound Blaster Live 5.1 from their official website and when I came to install it... it said that there were no Sound Blaster cards detected on my computer even though it was securely pushed in IN a pci slot!!

Then I decided that I don't need sound blaster so i installed the driver for the integrated sound card on my mb (realtek AC-97) and everything LOOKS fine according to their program and the control panel (sound and audio options) but i dont receive any sound from anything at all. I was planning on buying a NEW sound card but then i decided to test this Sound Blaster Live 5.1 on my bro's computer. Ironically, it was detected on his 1.2 ghz AMD Athlon Thunderbird and now i'm puzzled as why it wasn't detected on mine.

What solutions have I tried?

I installed numerous drivers for both the sound blaster and the integrated sound card repeatedly and there wasn't any hope.

I re-installed the OS twice (I'm willing to do a third though)

I don't know what else I can try.. can anyone help and please don't say the mother board :[?

The problem might just be the new board, it may not support the sound card, or maybe it really isn't plugged in all the way.

Happened to me with my Firewire card took me forever to put the dump thing in I keep pushin and pushin, but not to hard because you'll break the card and you don't want to do that.

so just keep pushin slowly it may look like it is in but it probably really isn't

I hope creative can help you with your problem.

Or ot may be the new processor/ board combination, why didn't you just get the Atholon 64 instead of the Septeron 64.

I don't think many cards are compatible with that

Hello. My motherboard is this model : http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5G41CM/#specifications

I had been using the back audio jack with no problems for over a year. Then I started to hear some popping and static, and one day it just kind of "died" and worked in a semi-broken state. One speaker ONLY makes a little quiet static while the other makes sound, but seems to be of very low quality and if music is played, sounds absolutely terrible.

I have tested multiple speakers and headphones with the same result, as well as checked to ensure those speakers are working with another PC, including the audio cables used to connect the speakers and headphones to the pc.

Thinking the problem may have been the jack on the motherboard, I purchased a separate AC97 connector with audio jack, connected that to the AC97/HD audio port on my motherboard and plugged in the speakers.

Expecting this to work just fine, I quickly realised that THE OTHER SPEAKER now is putting out the garbled sound, and basically reversed the problem. Unfortunately putting in another soundcard is out of the question due to not having room to install it..

I have reinstalled Windows XP 32-bit as well as reinstalling audio drivers (realtek) multiple times. The only Device Manager warning is "unknown device" with one yellow exclamation mark, I'm doubtful this is related.

I'm really now stumped, and don't want to have to purchase another motherboard.., there h... Read more

I recently installed a new motherboard Asus Sabertooth 990FX. It has an on-board sound card "Realtek? ALC 892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC". I'm using 5.1 surround speakers from creative. Speaker fill with windows update driver, or Realteks driver from Asus' website, has the same outcome.

The problem is that the back speakers, when playing music, sound like an mp3 playing at 24kbps or something of the sort. This is not the first time this has happened, and ever since windows vista, this problem has occurred in every on-board sound card i have dealt with. I have heard different reasons such as DirectSound3D Hal in Windows Vista being removed, on-board sound cards just sucking, drivers sucking, etc.

The only time the rear speakers sound right, is when i test the speakers with windows, with the software from Realtek, Or using some media player that i cant remember the name of anymore that had an option to fix this problem only for music played in that media player. But I just want all sound to play through them right. I don't watch movies on this computer and usually don't play any games, so i don't really care about the surround affect. I just want all the speakers putting out sound in stereo.

At this point I really don't care if i need a third party software to fix this issue and just for the record, no I do not have room in my system for an internal sound card, and I really don't want to deal with an external one either. I'd rather just never fix the i... Read more

Answer:Realtek onboard sound card with 5.1 surround speaker fill problem

The first step once confirmed that the correct drivers and by the way sound app is installed is to set to the speaker settings for 5.1 or 4 speakers depending on preference. You may want to check on the Windows sound mixer settings as well since many often forget about that other mixer being there.

The first test once the settings are looked over is going into the Control Panel>Sound section there to run the test/configuration wizard which will verify each pair of speakers first front then back as you go along. That is found in the Playback tab when first clicking on the CP>Sound and seeing the popup window appear.
(refer to attached images for both Windwos sound mixer, Sound configuration wizard)

As you will see from the second image there for the configuration wizard I use a separate expansion card(preferred here) while you would still look through that wizard. With the Creative Audio Console/Volume Panel you generally expect a move evolved mixer.volume control panel while most onboard sound setups also provide some smaller form of mixer app you would need to look at as well.

Another trip up found with some 5.1 speaker sets is on the center speaker or other volume and balance controls where sometimes tweaking them is required when it seems sound will drop off from the rear speakers. If the bass is up a bit the quality of sound from the rear pair despite having a woofer below can suffer! Then you have to tweak the tremble if these controls are present to clean up th... Read more

Hey what's up people! I got a little problem. My PSU was crapping out, so I decided to get a new one... I found a deal for a CPU case and PSU, so I just transferred the Motherboard, Hard Drives, etc... to the new case. I was extra careful to do it properly and not screw anything up, but something did! I have no sound whatsoever, neither my speakers nor the CPU speaker work at all. I have tried all the windows troubleshooters, to no avail. It was working perfectly before!! I have a K7SOM+ motherboard and Duron 2000+. I double checked in the manual to see if I did everything right, and the only thing different is that the new case does not have a front panel audio header, so I didn't touch those pins. I checked the BIOS and everything seems fine everything is enabled, nothing is muted, and speakers work fine... um, that is all I can think of right now.. if you can help me just shout back!!

I recently downloaded the latest Realtek drivers for my ECS Elitegroup GeForce 7050m-m Motherboard, and the sound worked well, and also my headphones microphone worked. I do not have external (or internal) speakers, as I just use my Turtlebeach Headset for sound and communicating. When the little dialog info thing pops up from Realtek it says:
Information: You've just plugged/unplugged a device from the audio jack. This happens repeatedly for my microphone. The mic will stop working once it says unplugged, but it isn't a problem with the headset, as I have another that does the same problem. The sound never cuts out, but the mic does, any suggestions?

I have my speakers hooked up to the motherboard itself (onboard) as my sound card is not compatible with Windows Vista 64 Bit version which I am running.

The sound doesn't work properly though. In REALTEK control panel you get a picture of your set up (as shown below) so that you can click each individual speaker & see if you're getting sound from them. Well they all work fine when I click them individually in the REALTEK control panel, but when I listen to music, watch videos or play games etc, I only get sound coming out of the front 2 speakers.

Why would this be?

I cannot get any sound through the front+back headphone jacks, realtek doesnt detect any audio devices, however i can mess around with the settings to get windows to say i have speakers+mic and 2nd audio devices plugged regardless if anything is plugged in or not. I have tried everything!

Hiyya and welcome aaron mate sure the board is hooked up right?
Otherwise drivers? or failing that a decent sound card I use a cheap Asus Xonar DG which gives excellent audio and mixing features but my next build is having the Asus Xonar DS or DX .

Another option would be one of those card readers in a front bay but am surprised you cannot get sound off the board connections?

I have built 2 identical systems and the onboard sound does not work. I chose these MB for several reasons. One being the 6 channel audio for gaming. Neither system's onboard sound will work, only the front sound jack.

The specs report "The A7N8X uses an onboard Realtek® ALC650 audio CODEC that lets you enjoy high-quality 6-channel audio without having to buy advanced sound cards." and "Realtek® ALC650 6CH w/built in HP amplifier." But Windows XP Pro Device Manager detects NVidia (R) nForce (TM) Audio Codec Interface.

I have tried loading the drivers for the ALC650 with no change. I don't understand why the NVidia Codec is being recognized.

Hello all,

Upgrade scenario:
I upgraded my (ancient) Dimension 8400 from XPSP3 to Windows 8 Pro (32 bit) via a clean install.

Result:
Windows 8 Pro installed all necessary drivers except my 16 bit integrated sound drivers (and printer).

Post Installation Activity:
Tried a manual install and received a drivers not compatible warning.
Tried a manual install using the compatibility mode and received the same warning as above.
Note: Even though the driver installation failed, the process did leave all post installation files on my hard drive.

Final Solution:
Went into the device manager, found the flagged media controller, and manually updated the driver by pointing it to the post installation file folder (for the sound drivers). All sound drivers were immediately recognized and all flags were removed. This method of manually updating the sound driver (after a failed normal installation) worked perfectly for me. So, if you are in a similar position, you may want to give my solution a shot before giving up and buying a new sound card.

Good luck!

Note:
After the initial upgrade, Windows 8 update found a newer version of my integrated sound driver so I installed it and that worked too!

Answer:Some XP Integrated Sound Drivers May Work On Windows 8

As Dell does not support later OS' with this "old" legacy model you are limited mostly to the default HD Audio Codec that Windows may install. Some audio functions are handled differently internally in the OS between XP and Vista/Win7/Win8 thus the reason the older drivers do not work (or work properly). If you found drivers that will work you are in the minority. I used to do a lot of support on the Dell users forum and users were installing PCI sound cards compatible with the OS they wanted to use to get sound.

My friend's girlfriend bought him logitech z 640 5.1 channel speakers(for his computer) for his b-day however she forgot to consider that he needs a sound card instead of onboard sound to make use of the speakers. He has a Sony Vaio Series S Notebook.I was thinking of getting him an Audigy 2 ZS Notebook PCMCIA 7.1 channel sound card for his b-day to make sure the speakers she got him work. I am not sure however if a 5.1 speakers would work with 7.1 channel sound card.I would imagine that it does, however,I cannot be completely sure. If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.

Answer:Would a 7.1 channel Sound Card work with a 5.1 speaker set?

Yes, they will work, but he will only be able to get 5.1 sound. I would check the spec's of that notebook. It may or may not have 5.1 support. Even if the onboard sound isn't 5.1, he will still be able to use the speakers.

Recently purchased a new Gateway PC, Windows 7, 64 bit. Originally, the sound was very limited, and now has become unevident. Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI, and Realtek High Definition Audio are the two items listed under Sound, Video, & Game Controllers in Device Manager, and BOTH give the Windows message that the device is working correctly, and that the driver is up to date.
The speakers that I am using work perfectly with my other PC, and I even went out and bought additional speakers, with the same result.

Answer:Solved: Sound Jacks-Low 2 No Sound!

The issue is SOLVED! Also, the fix was totally incredible (though a novice could have done it)!!! I found out through a "Geek Squad" associate, since the computer was purchased at Best Buy, that newer computers do not produce the necessary power for speakers that are not "self-powered" (that have to be plugged into an electrical outlet). I now have the correct speakers, and am "BLASTING"!!!!!!!

Okay, so about 2 hours ago I was in a teamspeak. Suddenly my microphone and headset cut out, immediately I right clicked the sound icon and selected 'playback devices' there were three icons I didn't recognise one was a speaker that said 'Xsplit audio renderer'

Another was a picture of a headphone

Another was a speaker which said 'Via HD Audio'

If I remember correctly it should say realtek or something, but it didn't. None of them worked, but if I played a video it detected the sound from the video but I couldn't hear it.

Please someone help...
Also sorry if this is on the wrong thread, I didn't know where else to put it

Another was a speaker which said 'Via HD Audio'

If I remember correctly it should say realtek or something, but it didn't. None of them worked, but if I played a video it detected the sound from the video but I couldn't hear it.

Please someone help...
Also sorry if this is on the wrong thread, I didn't know where else to put it

Answer:Playback devices show a speaker, but my sound does not work.

Just reinstall the sound software/drivers for your PC?

Hi, I've installed a new Windows XP including SP3 (don't use the recovery discs). I've also installed all necessary drivers from the levonvo support page (no unknown devices left in device manager). The problem now is, I can't hear a sound from the integrated speakers (no, they are not muted). I can hear a sound if I plug in headphones. If I unplug them it doesn't switch back to internal speakers. How can I fix this?I also checked the FAQ and tried all hints without any success.

Answer:T500 no sound from internal speaker (but Headphones work)

try this. control panel > sound & audio devices > audio >  advanced > performance > restore defaults

This is an older motherboard. The RealTek is Realtek? ALC662
Have you tried the driver from RealTek? The "AC'97" Codecs are the ones to use.

changed integrated sound card for Sound Blasster Live but it is not working right. It shows up in the device mnager, but when I go to Start>>Settings>>Control Panel>>Sounds & Audio Devices, it shows that there is NO AUDIO DEVICES.....why. I am running Windows XP Pro, on a P4-1.8, which has an Asus motherboard model P4S333.

Answer:changed integrated sound card for Sound Blasster Live but it is not working right

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

First. Go into your bios, and disable your onboard sound, and save and exit bios.

Once your computer has booted up, go into contol panel, and double click the sounds and audio devices icon.

Click on the audio tab, and set the sound playback device to your new soundcard.

Do the same for the sound recording device. Click on the voice tab and do the same. Click apply/ok.

Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for your new soundcard, and that your speakers are plugged into the new soundcard.

I'm having problems with my sound on my computer. I had downloaded the latest drivers from the via web site and everything was going fine. I have made no changes to the computer except for installing The Sims and everything was working fine. Now the problem is that I get some sound but not all. Best description is "choppy". It happens w/ sound efects and music files. The only thing I have not tried is playing an audio cd. Of course I removed the sound device. Now this is the strange part. I run the driver install that I downloaded and I get a message on the computer that says the via chipset has not been enabled in the bios. This is incorrect. The chipset is enabled. The onboard sound is enabled. So, after removing the sound device from device mgr I reboot the computer. The comuputer recognizes a pci communications device and locates and installs the drivers for it. Wow! Imagin that. Of course I get the same problem. Any suggestions? Need more info? let me know.Thanks.

Answer:Reinstalling a sound driver for onboard sound from a pre-packaged Windows XP

normally you can go to the manufacturer's website and download the orignal OEM drivers for your computers model and series.
usually under Customer service and support or downloads on the companies' website.

If not an OEM install from a major manufacturer such as Dell or Compaq etc, then you should still be able to find out the manufacturer of the motherboard itself and go to their website and do the same

I've got an Asus Crosshair V Formula motherboard that I couldn't get any sound on my Onkyo HT-R550 receiver via the onboard optical output (Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS) I was planning on getting a nicer sound card anyway, so I bought the Asus Xonar Essence ST.

Installed that sound card but alas, I still have the same problem.

Speaker and headphone outputs work, but no signal is recognized by the receiver via the S/PDIF. I know that the cable and receiver are fine, I still have my previous computer which is running Win XP and it has been sending audio via the same cable to the same receiver for years. It still works if I hook it up. It has an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard and an HT Omega Striker 7.1 audio card. Both the onboard and sound card optical output work with the optical out to the receiver.

With my current computer the Win 7 "Sound" window displays signal on the audio meter when I play audio or when I use the "Test" function. But no signal is recognized by the receiver. I've tried every format and sample rate. I've uninstalled all drivers and reinstalled. I've used DH Driver Cleaner to sweep out all previous existing audio drivers. I've also had the onboard disabled since I originally installed the card. I've tried everything I can think of and manipulated all the settings in the Xonar Essence ST Audio Center software that are relevant. I think I've tried everything, but I'm hoping I'm wrong. I've submitted this to Asus technical, but it's been... Read more

Answer:S/PDIF Optical out - No sound from receiver (onboard and sound card)

although the xonar panel will control almost all functions for that, make sure that windows has it's default audio device set to the spdif card you want. If it's set to speakers HD AUDIO (hd audio being one of the cards you want) will only output through analog. Control Panel>hardware and sound>sound. Select the card that you want and make sure u select one of the options that also says spdif. Click set default, apply and it should work. Sorry if you have already tried this. But it's the first thing that comes to mind right now.

Well, my on-board sound is annoying the hell out of me.

First of all, I have an Albatron PX845PEV Pro board with the original drivers from the homepage. (Realtek AC'97 Audio driver version 5.10.0.5100)

Now during normal music or video enjoyment the sound is fine.
But as soon as i start a game (WoW, Steam CS, Rome:Total war) the sound gets bad... i mean REAL bad.
Oddly enough NOT in WoW intro videos and stuff, only in actual game play.

Since english is not my native language i have some problems expressing how the sound is like... But well, just imagine you pack a pair of bad headphones in a tin box and crank it up loud. Thats pretty much how it sounds ;-)

Hope anyone can tell me what would fix this or atleast if it even is fixable...

Dont really feel like stuffing an expensive sound card into my PC... My old ASRock K7 Board for instance only had onboard sound too, but it was definetly enough for my standards...

Well, thx in advance for any tipps.

Answer:Albatron PX845 onboard sound problem (BAD sound in games)

Your sound works in Windows fine, while playing movies and listening to music. Something is "right" there. The oddball that comes to mind is EAX, Enhanced Audio eXperience (i think). I once had a game that had bad sound, and i had to go to options and disable EAX, or high definition audio, whatever they may call it. Then the game's sound was fine. The only other fix i've seen for that (like if the game always tried to use EAX with no option to disable it), is go to advanced properties of Sound and turn hardware acceleration down one level at a time, testing the game to see if it works. Hope you get it figured out.

Hey everyone!

I'm having some serious problems with my sound card over here. I have an Asus P4SDX motherboard that SUPPOSEDLY has an integrated sound card, but it doesn't seem to be working. We're talking no headphones, no speakers, NOTHING. I downloaded and installed the AC97 sound drivers and it's STILL not working. Windows Media Player gives me an error that says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."

I've tried Microsoft's troubleshooter, too, and it didn't tell me anything that I hadn't already tried.

I'm new to this whole taking care of my own computer thing b/c I'm off at college now and it's really starting to frustrate me. I know more a/b computers than most girls do but apparently it's not enough! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

The title says it all. I recently started playing Medal of Honor and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and on both games I get a frozen screen with looping audio which forces me to shut the computer down via the power button.

after doing some searching around on the net and trying various solutions, I have determined the next step is to disable on board sound. I know this sounds like a noobish question but, is there any way to get sound out of my computer? is there a BIOS setting that allows me to disable the on board sound but still get sound out my PC? these 2 games rely heavily on being able to hear what is going on,

I have an ABIT IP35 Pro with no secondary sound card.

thanks.

Answer:Can I get audio if I turn onboard sound off without a sound card?

No that'd be impossible. if you turn off the onboard sound, how are you gonna get some sound delivered to your speaker or headphone?

you should try disabling the onboard sound and check if it fixes the issue. if it did, also try to uninstall your current audio driver and install the newest one.

looping audio does not always means the onboard sound is faulty. it usually goes on loop because that portion of the soundtrack is already loaded into RAM. therefore it still plays even when the computer froze.

the problem might lies in other thing such as video card or overheating CPU since you indicate it only occurs when you're playing games.

Hello,

I have a really weird thing going on. I have a asus PG5D1 motherboard. I'm not sure if it's the pro or the normal version but when I compare the pictures of the two motherboards on the Asus website with what mine looks like, it looks like a P5GD1 Pro motherboard.
So when I click on the downloads part of the page dedicated to that motherboard I look for the sound drivers for the onboard sound and the latest ones are very old like 2005.

But the name of the drivers is Realtek ALC861 Audio Driver V5.10.0.5116 beta for Windows 64bit XP/2003.

So to find the latest I go on the Realtek website, and find the latest drivers for the ALC861., I uninstall the old ones (version 2.01) and install the new ones (version 2.53). Reboot. And then I have no sound. When I try to read a audio file it makes the program crash etc.

So it's really weird, since Realtek just says that not getting the drivers from the manufacturer will only cause me to loose the special tools and gadgets from the manufacturer (Asus here), but that's not a problem, I just want to upgrade the drivers.

Either it's Asus that messed up or I'm not getting the correct ones from the website. Another weird thing is that inside Everest (a program to get infos on my PC and what's in it), it says my sound card is a "Intel 82801FB ICH6 - High Definition Audio Controller [B-1]". Also if I look the audio drivers on the asus website for the P5GD1 motherboard (the normal not the &... Read more

First, let me say that I am a sound novice! I recently started a vinyl ripping project. My onboard sound does not support 24 bit depth recording at 96 kHz sampling rate, so I purchased an external USB card with phono preamp. It works just fine for my project. But as long as external sound card is plugged into a USB port, it takes control of all sound. I'd like to be able to toggle back to my onboard audio when I'm not ripping vinyl so I can listen through my system speakers. I have experimented with Windows audio controls, but have not found a way to do this. Is it possible?

I tried installing the driver again fom DFI and to no success, now when I went to install the drive again, I got an error saying that this device isnt approved by Windows, could windows be preventing my audio card from working?

Hey Grimreaper!

Sounds like you have a killer setup for sound. (I won't say what I'm using ).

If it were me and the onboard sound system is working great, then I'd stay with the onboard system. If you change your mind in the future, you can always add the external back in.

Hi,

I am running Windows XP on a Intel Gigabyte 925 motherboard with onboard sound (CM9880) and 5.1 AOpen Surround sound speakers

The motherboard CD comes with drivers for both Microsofts UAA architecture as well CMedia.

The problem is that when I run the sound tests with the CMedia configuration utility all 5 of my surround sound speakers play at the correct times showing that they do work. The problem is this is the only place they work. The dont work when I play games or listen to music through various sound programs such as Windows Media Player. Here only 2 speakers work. Not all 5, some please help?

Is there and updated driver that I need to get for my onboard sound card fro Windows XP and if so from where

Thanks

Hi,

Firstly thanks for the forums and support, I've used this forum before searching problems, finding solutions. But alas, this is the first time I've not been able to rectify my issue after searching on the forums.

My Spec:
AMD Phenom Quad core
Asus m4a79 deluxe
2GB ddr2 Corsair Dominator RAM
nVidia GFX card
Windows 7

There is no sound coming from my computer. There once was sound, but the computer was dormant for 6 months and I replaced the Power Supply, and now there is no sound. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling/updating all drivers. I've tried configuring my audio devices (Currently there are 4 listed: Speakers, RealTex HD Audio 2nd Output, Digital Output(RCA+ Optical) and RealTek Digital Output).

When I play sound, levels are shown going up and down, indicating that the audio devices are aware of the sound, but no matter what speakers I plug in I still don't get sound. I've tried 3 different outputs, 1 of which were headphones, all of which didn't work. I have also tried accessing my PC remotely from my iPad through SplashTop, which plays the sounds from the PC, weirdly.

I don't know what to try now and would appreciate any help or input.

Thanks

Answer:Solved: No Sound - Asus MoBo onboard sound

I'd suspect a faulty audio chipset. The hardware being recognized and the drivers installing aren't an indication that the hardware is actually functional.

With that being said, try a different version of the RealTek drivers. Try using the latest version available from Asus. If those don't work, try the latest version directly from RealTek.

My wife informed me that there has never been sound from her notebook speaker but headphones work fine.  Is this possibly problem with the audio driver or maybe a headphone jack problem?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.Latitude D620Default device: SigmaTel AudioSigma Tel version 5.10.0.4823Thanks

Answer:No sound from Latitude D620 notebook speaker but headphones work fine.

It could be either. On the software side of things, you could reinstall the audio driver or use PC Restore to return her computer to the exact configuration it was in when she received it. Everything that was working then would work again except any hardware problems that have developed since it was shipped (or any it had when shipped for that matter).Or it could be the headphone jack. The Dell laptops with a Sigmatel 92xx audio chip utilize Universal Jacks technology, which is somewhat complicated. In addition to the usual mechanical parts, the jack also uses current & impedance-sensing techniques to trigger software configuration and switching (to send the audio signal to the speakers). So there are three areas of potential failure: mechanical, electronic, and software. Sometimes, a little very gentle wiggle of a plug in the jack will get it to resume normal functioning, at least temporarily. Normally I'd say to run the audio test part of Dell Diagnostics to confirm that there is a hardware problem, but we have seen that these Universal Jacks can cause a false result in Diagnostics. That is because Diagnostics operates in DOS, outside of Windows, so a Windows software misconfiguration is irrelevant to the test even though in this case it is caused by hardware. So the audio test can pass in Diagnostics, correctly signaling that software configuration is the immediate cause of the problem, but missing that a hardware problem, the bad jack, is the root cause. In these inst... Read more

Hello, Something is stuck inside my headphone jack (really no idea what, it looks like some amber colored resin) This caused no problems until i tried to stick my headphones in (because i didn't know there was something else inside)Now the little switch inside is activated and i can't use my normal speakers anymore. Pulling the thing out is not possible it really seems glued inside, i can remove small parts of it by scratching with a screwdriver but i see no way to remove it without a drill. I googled for ways to shut off the port so i can revert back to the normal speakers (i really don't care about losing the headphone jack, i normally only use speaker sound) It seems the installed realtek drivers allow no option to deactivate it. I tried reinstalling the realtek driver, changed registry option "EnableDynamicDevices" but didnt find the more promising "ForceDisableJD".  The Windows driver also didn't help and i didn't find any other drivers available for this notebook. The BIOS also didn't have any option for this (but maybe i'm just bad at finding it) Is there any way to disable the port on the software side or a way to disconnect the hardware? I have soldering equipment here. I really don't care for a clean solution anymore, just hoping for a way to get the sound. Thanks for your help. Edit: whoops almost forgot the essentials: this is a lenovo z510 with win7 64bit that was not pre-installed (bought without OS)

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. In the Playback section, set your "Speakers" as the Default Playback device (if it's not now set). Then see if you have speaker and/or headphone sound.

Hello everyone,

My audio has seem to quit on me. I updated to the newest drivers for my mobo (biostar A870U3) from their download page and now I get no sound whatsoever from my speakers. I have tried uninstalling all of the sound devices from the device manager and letting windows reinstall them, but to no avail. I have also made sure that the onboard sound is on in the bios. When I uninstall the sound devices, it defaults back to the windows default audio driver which won't recognize something is plugged in.
It greys out my speakers and then defaults to the Digital Ouput, but I have no such device. I then have also tried downloading the onboard audio drivers from the mobo download page and installing them. They install but it then defaults to the Realtek Digital Output (once again, I don't have such a device). If I go to the realtek HD audio manager and disable front panel detection, it doesn't even recognize any of my back panels being plugged in. Answer:RealTek OnBoard Sound Issue - No Sound

The first thing I see is four HD Audio devices in the Device Manager that should be uninstalled (RIGHT click on the entry for the device and then LEFT click Uninstall) then restart the PC. Get rid of them to eliminate any possibile conflicts.

If there is a "default" setting for the sound outputs, set it to default and see if that helps.

I notice a web cam that is also showing up. They can tend to cause issues too so temporarily disconnect that from the PC while you are trying to get the system audio setup.

Hello,
I have recently bought a secon hand Asus m2n-e sli mo'bo, from a friend.
All was going well, everything was set up with drivers from origional discs.

While playing a game (lost plannet: Extreeme condidtion) my pc crashed and reset itself. Since then i have been unable to get any sound, when sound is played it just makes a static sound. The only slight bit of sound i can hear is when playing the speaker test program in C-media. I can hear the voice slightly under the static sound.

I have tryed:
>All ports.
>Rolling back drivers.
>Latest C-media drivers from Asus.
> Ac97 drivers.

>Sound card:I tryed to use a Creative Audigy Soundblaster (X-Fi XtremeGamer). After inserting into my mobo my computer failed to boot, or even reach bios.

If anyone could provide answers/solution to either of my problems I would be very greatfull.

Thanks Craig

Installed a Creative Soundblaster card and it automatically disables the onboard sound and when looking on recording devices Realtek doesn't show. Can I go into the BIOS screen and re-enable onboard audio (providing it allows me to) and will the Realtek HD Audio once again appear in recording devices along with the "what you hear" option the Soundblaster sets up when installing the soundcard ?  Basically, can you have both Realtek and Soundblaster show in recording devices at the same time and have the option to disable one when your not using it ?
The sound card I'm using is the Soundblaster Audigy RX 7.1.
Thanks for any help

Hi, I fly MS FSX and I want to be able to chat to ATC with my headphones and then hear the engine noises coming out of my speakers and sub-woofer.

I have a soundcard and my motherboard has onboard sound. I can't find the bios setting to turn it on and I can't see any hint of it anywhere on the computer. Can someone help me get the on board sound going?

My computer is homebuilt, I recently installed Windows 7 pro 64bit. Specs in profile.

Thanks

Answer:Enabling onboard sound with a sound card

In your bios it is under "Integrated Peripherals" and called "Azalia Codec".

P.S. What you want to do will only work if the chat program you want to use allows you to choose from more than one audio device, if it doesn't then it will only use the Windows default device.

What would be the advantages/disadvantages of onboard sound vs a sound card? With a sound add on card are there headers for front panels connections.? Would I see/hear a big difference in the sound?

Answer:onboard sound vs. Addon sound card

It would depend on what you want from the audio or what applications you have for it. I have a home built using an Intel motherboard that has IDT (SigmaTel) HD audio on it. It's fine for most of the "listening" that I do However, I have a music program that uses MIDI and the default built in Windows/Microsoft GS Wavetable MIDI Synth is pretty bad. For that reason I have a SoundBlaster Xfi installed and SoundBlaster has on board hardware MIDI synths that are much better.

I was attempting to begin using Bit Torrent for utilizing AVI and other video file types for viewing. However, I got no sound. Bit Torrent's help section says the following:

The reason for this is an issue with Windows DRM, the rights management tool BitTorrent uses to authorize your viewing of the file you downloaded. Some of our content has tighter playback restrictions than others. In this case it is seeing your display settings as not allowed by the license.

In many cases this message is in error. If you have older video drivers (pre-July 2005) and are using a laptop and/or a VGA output device there is a chance Windows Media Player will think there is something wrong. To correct this, you can upgrade your video drivers to current versions. This will fix this issue for your future viewing on our site or others in the future for that matter.
To check your video drivers, go to the Control Panel and double-click on the Display icon. In the Display window select the Settings tab. Click the Advanced button. Select the Adapter tab. Click the Properties button. Finally, select the Driver tab. In this window will be displayed the Driver Date. If it is before July 2005 you will need to update your video drivers. After i reinstalled windows, xp sp3, i have not been able to use the onboard sound device on my asus p4p800 deluxe motherboard.
At first when i tried to reinstall the drivers through the setup, both with the original driver cd that came with the motherboard and with the updated soundmax drivers from asus' wepage, i was given the error "severe: driver not found. please reboot system and try setup again." I did so, but got the same result every time.
I forced through the install by selecting the "have disc" option on the found new hardware wizard and selecting the .inf file for the ad 1985 driver directly. This however just got me the "Code 10" error.
In the sounds and audio devices menu it shows up "no audio device" but in device manager an "audio device on high definition audio bus" shows up under "other devices" but windows cannot find any drivers to this device.

I've been looking through the net on countless forums and threads looking for solutions but none so far have worked. This is a big problem for me as I use my computer a lot for editing sound and composing as a profesional musician.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:NO SOUND! The curse of integrated sound in my **** motherboard.

Do you have to enable audio in the BIOS? Check to make sure.

You might have to flash your BIOS.

Why did you feel you had to install SP3? What I mean is, if you've gone this long without it, can you get by without it in the future?

Try to remove SP3. Failing that, maybe you should consider buying a sound card.

please could anyone surgest a fix for problem with sound output jacks on the front of these devices.this has occured with a new pc build, using Asus 64 bit M/B K8 DELUXE with AMD 3000 MHz cpu.I have fitted sound cables from back of devices and run them to the respective inputs on M/B ie CD and AUX I tried selecting digital output from devices in the device manager properties, but this also does not fix the problem. Also l have had the volume turned up also,Please feel free to make your surgestions.

Answer:cd/rw +dvd/rw sound jacks

Slightly confused, the output jacks on the front of your CD DVD players etc will respond if your pop in a set of headphones, load up a cd with a song on it and, you should then hear ot playing provided that the volume slider on the front is turned up.This will work whether you have connection at the back or not.Try this first. The output at the back is pretty well the same as the front but, you have a plugging facility to go into your MB.Having tried this earphone thing, and if it works then come back.

Answer:No Sound From Speaker but Sound returns when Headp...

Was finally able get the sound to return to my speakers. Seems the issue was my audio jack sensing that something was plugged in when nothing was there.  I went Realtek Audio Manager and messed with the Speaker retasking options.Using user Helped?'s solution and audio into my speakers briefly returned. Then went away.So I turned off my laptop took some compressed air and a toothpick and lightly went around the edges of the jack. Turned it back on and sound returned.

Hey,

If this is the wrong forum for this question then I apologize in advance.

I'm having some problems when I try to record music.

I have my microphone plugged in, but whenever I sing/play into the microphone, the sound only comes out from the right speaker. Therefore, when I mix my songs using my software, the sound is still only coming out of the right speaker, which is very frustrating. This also means that if I listen to my songs on my iPod, the music is only coming out of the right headphone.

If I listen to songs from CDs or whatever, or just any other sound on the computer, the sound is coming out of both speakers simultaneously as is normal. I only have problems when I am using my microphone.

I am using Windows XP (2002 Home Edition) and Realtek HD Audio Manager. My speakers are ViewSonic Speakers, which entails a subwoofer and two smaller speakers (the left and right ones). I plug my microphone into the blue 'Line In' port at the back of my computer rather than the pink 'Microphone' port, because this is what works best for the recording/mixing software I am using, but even when it is plugged into the 'Microphone' port I have the same problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much,

Tim.

Answer:Sound problem: Mic sound only coming out of one speaker

Either the Microphone cable is not plugged in correct.Try not to plug it in all the way/or push it in further. Sometimes you have to play around with it to get them to work. Or you might have the balance on the microphone on one side which is a setting in the Sound Icon. Double click on The Icon and then options and then on Properties. Make sure There is a check mark next to Microphone and then click OK. You should see the Microphone settings on the screen and make sure the balance is in the middle. If none of this works you might need a new Microphone.

I have hp dv1738od and have upgraded to Windows 7, previously Windows XP. Everything seem to be working ok except, for the sound. Window 7 automatically installed the driver, and said the sound card was working properly. But there was no sound through speaker.

I removed the driver and reinstall the driver that I got from HP website that work for Window Vista. Installation went through with no problem and Device manager indicated no isssue on sound driver. However there was still no sound coming out from the speaker, only through headphone jack.

I read tons of forums, and some has suggested that it may be the jack connection. I tried plugging in and out numerous time, and that did not solve the issue. Sound could be heard for like a sec, when headphone was being plugged out but it goes away quickly. To determine if it was hardware or software issue, i reinstalled Window XP and there was sound through speaker. So for sure it is not the speaker issue.
If anybody can help me out, I greatly appreciated.

Answer:HP laptop no sound from speaker but there is sound through headphone

Hi imek and welcome to the forum!

I would assume that you are running the 32-bit version of Windows 7. If you are, you're in luck. Please download the latest BIOS and software for your HP Pavilion dv1738od, here.

I would suggest that you try using the audio driver found in this page to check if that resolves your issue. If it doesn't, it is highly recommended that you update your BIOS, found in the link provided, that might correct the issue you're having.

Let us know how it turns out

Answer:HP laptop no sound from speaker but there is sound through headphone

Laptop speakers are generally very delicate and if played on full volume can be blown very easily. My Dell Vostro's right speaker has gone like that while I was watching a movie on VLC player with volume more than 100%. So people using VLC player, should be careful with the sound controls within the player. This is my experience with laptop speakers. I hope you did not have this problem.

On the system tray right click on the speaker icon, select Playback devices.

On the opened Sound Dialog box, make sure that Speaker icon has a green check mark as shown below. Click on Configure button and test the speakers working or not. Complete the speaker setup and close the dialog box.

Check the properties and make suitable adjustments in available tabs.

soo i have a 5.1 system for my computer

it has 3 jacks
black
orange
green

i know green is for the headphones

but what is black and orange for?

a little program i have, has both of them set for "front speaker out"

so i guess my question is, is this correct? or should one of them be set for "rear speaker out" or something along those lines?

Answer:Solved: sound jacks?

Orange should be: Sub+Center (or just center), black should be Rear out. Green is actually not for headphones, but front channel (which includes also headphones, as well as the front pair of speakers in a 5.1 setup and any stereo speakers)

Answer:Sound jacks in front

If you don't use the onboard sound card then you will have to run extentions from the back of your sound car in the back to the front of the case. Those audio jacks in the front are connected to your MB allowing your onboard sound to come through the front speakers.

Answer:Sound card or onboard sound?

Yes...It is....to a certain extent. I have always believed that integrated sound is fine. However, professionals and hardcore games must have the highest quality of sound. Your eye is much more senstive than your ears, and can detect smaller changes more accuratly.

But now I've got a 3.5mm jack headphones and a 3.5mm Microphone in the mail I don't need the usb way. So I've gone back (Well I hope) to the settings before the thread but nothing happens.
I have tried reinstalling multipul Realtek HD Audio things..

Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:Realtek onboard sound. No sound

Have you reinstalled the ASUS supplied Realtek driver? In most cases the vendor (in this case motherboard vendor) driver works best. Non Vendor drivers can either not work or not work correctly.

Do you have the Audio Playback set correctly? The "Speakers" (in this case Realtek) should be set as the Default Audio Playback Device in the Sound Panel.

Also while you are in the Sound Panel, go to the Recording section and set the Stereo Mix as the default recording device.

Finally, make sure you have the front panel headphone/mic jack correctly connected to the motherboard front panel audio jack. The "HD Audio" connector from the front panel should be used (some also have an AC97 or only have an AC97 and that should only be used if there is no HD Audio).
