Sierra Wireless Broadband modem not detected

Question: Sierra Wireless Broadband modem not detected

I have just taken delivery of a B50-30 All in One and it doesn't recognise my Telstra 4G Broadband Modem Device which plugs into a USB port and imports a Connection Manager which then initiates connection to the internet.. Although the machine makes a tingle when the modem is plugged in (have tried all different USB ports) - this would seem to indicate that it recognises a new device - the Connection Manager icon doesn't pop up. The modem User Guide says it can be loaded manually by finding and clicking on the file "setup.exe". Couldn't find this file even though there is virtually nothing on this brand new computer. Any help appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Sierra Wireless Broadband modem not detected

Hello,

does this Device appear in the Device-Manager?
Maybe there appear a new folder under "My Computer", when you plug in the Device, where the setup.exe is located.

I just purchased a ThinkPad W500 that is cellular wireless ready.  I have an old ThinkPad T60 that has a Sierra Wireless cellular modem.  Can I use this device in the W500?  I understand I could get a SIM card for the W500 but if I can use the modem from the T60 machine I don't think I would have to activate a new account with Verizon.

Hi,I'm using the X61 with the build in Sierra Wireless MC5725 Modem. I've installed the drivers and everything else needed to run the device correctly except the Access Connection soft (not a big fan). Currently I'm running Windows 7 RTM (MSDN) 64bit Professional (alto I had the same problem on Vista Business 64bit). I've set up an dial-up connection and every time I try to connect I'm getting the 633 - device in use error. The Device Manager's saying that the device is working correctly but when I try to query it I get this in the log: 10-31-2009 16:21:07.454 - File: C:\Windows\system32\tapisrv.dll, Version 6.1.7600  10-31-2009 16:21:07.455 - File: C:\Windows\system32\unimdm.tsp, Version 6.1.7600  10-31-2009 16:21:07.456 - File: C:\Windows\system32\unimdmat.dll, Version 6.1.7600  10-31-2009 16:21:07.457 - File: C:\Windows\system32\uniplat.dll, Version 6.1.7600  10-31-2009 16:21:07.459 - File: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\modem.sys, Version 6.1.7600  10-31-2009 16:21:07.460 - File: C:\Windows\system32\modemui.dll, Version 6.1.7600  10-31-2009 16:21:07.463 - File: C:\Windows\system32\mdminst.dll, Version 6.1.7600  10-31-2009 16:21:07.463 - Modem type: Sierra Wireless Modem Device10-31-2009 16:21:07.463 - Modem inf path: oem12.inf10-31-2009 16:21:07.463 - Modem inf section: SWMODEMx6410-31-2009 16:21:07.463 - Matching hardware ID: swmuxbus\sw_modem_1_vid_1199&pid_022010-31-2009 16:21:07.463 - Opening ... I have an x131e laptop that I recently added a Sierra wireless data card to.  It has been setup for use with verizon.  When I access the software to use with the card " Vzaccess" , it recognizes the card model but tells me it is not inserted.  I tried using the Thinkpad Access Connections , that seems to work and allows me to access the web.  The problem is that the software we use to transfer data uses the vz access in order to transmit.  I downloaded the correct drivers from Lenovo's website and am using the correct vz access software from verizon.  I am wondering how I can get the software to recognize the card?  It says on verizons website that only one connection manager may be present, either vzaccess or access connections.  Just wondering why I can get it to work with one and not the other.  Any help would be most appreciated. thanks

Hello, I'm thinking to buy ThinkPad Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250. I?ve few questions, Pease suggest ...1. Is it really any good and practically beneficial?2. Can I use it on Fedora 27, How?s Linux support?3. X250 has two PCI Express M.2 card slot and one is already occupied by WLAN Card and other slot is available, Can I use empty slot for FRU-04X6014?4. Can I use both WLAN and WWAN simultaneously?5. What is the impact on battery (Windows and Linux)?6. Is AliExpress a good place to buy? Thankyou

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

As long as your 3G carrier supports BYOM (Bring Your Own Modem) for their service, AND it operates on a 3G band supported by the MC8355..... yes, you can.

Hi!I have a Thinkpad X220 with the BIOS whitelist removed. I just installed a Sierra Wireless MC7304. After installing the drivers from TechShip, the card is recognized as well as the inserted SIM card. However, it says "turned off" and I can't get it to turn on.Now, I have one more detail to share. The built-in SIM card holder on my X220 got broken previously due to a NANO sim adapter trashing the connectors. With a SIM in this slot, it doesn't get recognized. To get around this problem, I have installed a SIM Card adapter for mini PCI Express modules (https://techship.com/products/sim-card-adapter-for-mini-pci-express-modules/). With this fitted to the WWAN card, the SIM gets recognized. However, I see two Cellular connections (see attached screenshot). In device manager, I also have 3 Sierra Wireless network adapters.I assume I should disable some of these adapters to get this working by looking at hardware IDs. Any idea how to identify and diable the adapter coming from the broken sim card slot?

I've got a new X61 which had an internal 3G modem, the Sierra Wireless HSDPA MC8775. Help.Have a new broadband connection with a bt voyager wireless modem/router. I am struggling to set up my desktop and laptop. I have the desktop connected to the modem and surfing the internet fine. What I want now is to set up the laptop so I can carry on sharing files (via briefcases) as I did when just the 2 computers were involved in the wireless network and so I can surf the net from the laptop if i want. The pc has a USB belkin network adapter, the laptop a belkin wireless card. Both run win xp pro.Have struggled all day as the laptop is searching for my old network and the desktop has connected to the 'btvoyager' for broadband. I have tried the home networking wizard and it messes everything up! I know when i set up my home wireless network I had to manually configure the ip address for the 2 computers to get them running and sharing a dial up connection through the pc. Any ideas?

Hi, all.

Is there a workaround for setting up a wireless network ( peer-to-peer ) with laptop and PC both running XP Home, with a wireless router and USB modem? I know that the usual method is either a wireless router with ADSL built in, or a broadband modem using a NIC socket, but this situation has only the Speedtouch 330 broadband modem which has just USB connectivity, and the wireless router has only a NIC socket. Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance,

Joyous Monkey

Answer:USB broadband modem on wireless network?

You'll have to use ICS on the machine that has the Internet connection, that will allow you to connect to the Ethernet port and have connectivity. Since the ICS will basically make your host machine look like a router, you'll want to connect the wireless router as if you were connecting two routers. Here's the instructions for connecting two routers.

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

Looking for opinions here. Having eventually secured a refund (or the promise of one) from Dabs for a faulty Actiontec Wireless DSL Modem Router, I an looking for a replacement and seem to be down to either the Netgear DG 824M or the D-Link DSL 604.Price is a consideration, I don't want to go more that around 150 and prefer an "all in one" piece of kit.Any opinions would be welcome.

Answer:Wireless Broadband Modem/Router

I would go with the Netgear option as the customer service you will receive from them is second to none.It is definitely worth the extra. In regards to spec, both of them will be pretty much the same and you will get recommendations for them both from a lot of people on this forum.RegardsFitshase

I have a wireless network running with a wireless router. The internet is connected to one of the PCs via a USB modem. My problem is that the router obviously takes 192.168.0.1, and the PC that connects to the internet needs to be 192.168.0.1 to share the internet according to the Win XP Network Wizard. Is there anything i can do without changing hardware? Thanks.

Hi, i have a NTL broadband internet modem installed on my PC, it isnt using the Ethernet socket if thats important information? Can i buy something to make this give out wireless signals? What isit i need to buy, a router? And how would i set it up ?Also, would installed a router (if thats what i need) make the PC run off wireless signals, or would it still use the NTL modem and give off signals to other computers in the house, (eg. my laptop)Thanks in advance!

Answer:Can i make my NTL broadband modem go wireless ?

Assuming that your NTL broadband is over your telephone line, you'd need to replace the modem with an ADSL modem router (this is a separate box). You'll also need a wireless adapter (USB is easiest) to plug into the computer. You can often buy a package that includes the router and the USB wireless adpater in one box. The kit should come with instructions. The router should also support wired connections (using ethernet Cat 5 cables). Note that it is recommended to have at least one PC set-up with a wired connection as wireless is not 100% reliable and if you have problems with the wireless you won't be able to access the router to sort things out (as it is the router that connects to your broadband service and holds all the login information etc.). So if you only have one PC, it is best to stick with wired (or at least set it up so that you can use both wired and wireless).I would guess that it is pretty similar if your braodband is over cable, but I don't knwo the details.

Answer:Can you set up wireless broadband internet modem to a router?

If your ISP's cable modem also provides wireless then it's probably also a router. Best way to confirm exactly what it is is to tell us the exact make/model of the device. Look for a metal tag on it (usually on the back where the cables connect or on the bottom) and give us the make/model

Hi,I've installed a speedtouch 585v6 wireless router now to my desktop and its up and running using tiscali b/b, but when I did a speed check on thinkbroadband it comes up with a downstream speed of about 370k. Wasn't sure whether this was a problem with the new wireless link or on tiscali dsl. So I plugged my old modem back in (BT Voyager 105) and it showed a downstream of 4M, so I don't think its Tiscali. My PC is quite old, and doesn't have a network card, but it ran much faster with the old adsl modem. Unfortunately I do need to go wireless as I need to connect up a second PC. Can anyone suggest how to increase the speed on the wireless broadband (NB the link shows running at 54Mb between the wireless router and adapter)?Thx

Toshiba Satellite X205-S7483, Windows Vista Home Premium x86 SP1, Slingshot Wireless Broadband using Novatel Wireless Ovation USB modem.

The modem is connected through one of the two primary USB ports on the left of the laptop. The connection manager software that came with the modem is up to date. The problem is I'll be surfing the Web, downloading something, basically any time I'm online, the modem will be deactivated, as though I had unplugged it from the USB port.

I have disabled the option in Device Manager to allow Windows to deactivate USB devices to save power. This helped for about two days, but now the problem has resurfaced. Does anyone have experience with a problem like this?

Thank you.

Hello all,

I have a M110 Satelite mahine running XP SP3.

I have tried two different brands of Wireless USB modems. Both install the modem portion of the drivers corectly and the Device Manager shows this. However the Coms Port drivers do not install. The installation wizard gives the message "Driver's did not install correctly, Access is denied".

The modem providers cannot explain the failure as the modems will work on my desktop (vista) machine without any issues just plug and play so to speak.

I have tried -

1)disabling all anitvirus and firewall programs.
2)disabling and/or removing all other modems and internet connections
3)updating BIOS
4)re-starts completed after all above steps
5)Checked all drivers are the latest and most up to date.

Reverting to the "out of box" state by re-loading windows is not an option as I run a number programs on my machine which are no longer available in the format I use in my business. Some suggestion has been made by one tech that the Windows Registry Values are incorrect and are blocking the installation?

Answer:Satellite M110: Wireless Broadband USB Modem fails to Install

You said, that the Wireless USB modems works on your desktop with Vista. Do the modems support Windows XP or Windows XP SP3?
I would make a downgrade to SP2.

Furthermore I think the best way would be a reinstallation of Windows. If it?s not an option, test it on an other HDD in notebook.
So you have no risk to loose your data.

Not sure if this is a problem, more just a question... I installed a brand new Sierra EM7455 WWAN module a few days ago in my X260--got it direct from Lenovo. Getting it working was a little convoluted (had to reset BIOS) but it connects just fine to AT&T. The question or concern I have is when ever I restart the computer, I get a pop-up in the lower right that says "Configuring mobile broadband device...Do not shut down or restart Windows." It takes about 1-2 minutes, says "success" then everything is fine. The "problem" is that this happening every time I reboot. Has anyone seen this or know what's wrong? I've attached a screenshot of the message. I installed the official Lenovo drivers for the EM7455. I tried uninstalling the Sierra package and the message goes away--but so does the WWAN module... I re-installed the driver package and now the message is back. I had an X250 with the previous gen Sierra WWAN module and it was generally trouble free, no strange issues like this. Thanks

Answer:X230 Sierra mc7710 modem

HiDoesn't the mc7710 exist in the "Network Adapters" thread of the Device Manager? Is there mc7710 related port in the "Port" thread? Are there unknown devices in the DM after mc7710 disappears? Is the OS win8/8.1? What fw and drivers are installed? What USB vid/pid IDs does mc7710 have while it's visible in the DM?I didn't hear about such mc7710 behaviour earlier. W/o additional information I'd assume the cause is USB Selective Suspend Mode and its drivers.

Hey there! I hope you can help me with a problem. One of our L470's stopped reading simcards all of a sudden (Sierra EM7455 LTE modem). After opening a case, sending the notebook in, getting the mainboard replaced and setting it up with Windows 10 Enterprise x64 again, that modem still won't work!I hope you can help me here, because at this point i don't want another struggle with the repair center. ISSUE:After a clean install of Win 10 Enterprise x64 and the newest official drivers and firmware, including the BIOS of course, the Windows 10 devicemanager doesn't seem to find the LTE-Modem.The Sierra EM7455 driver from Lenovo won't install. The newest driver directly from Sierra is able to be installed but the firmware won't because it can't find the modem. Driver and firmware are two separate packages.I already checked the BIOS. WAN is enabled under 'I/O'.What else can I try? Thanks for your help!

I've been trying to fix a problem with my Lenovo T460S for months now, with hours spent on it and no success. The thing pops up with "Configuring mobile broadband device" every time from a fresh start, which takes about 30 seconds to complete. I've read this is to do with the SierraEM7455 onboard, but there is only one driver available for this on the website, and this does not fix the problem.  Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm getting very frustrated with it.

Answer:T460S "Configuring Mobile Broadband Device" every time on power up (Sierra EM7455)

HiThere is a solution in another thread where you've posted short question about issue with em7455 - disable Selective Suspend Mode drivers.Navigate to the folder where em7455 drivers package from Lenovo site is extracted (usually c:\drivers...). There should be Lenovo7455DriverSetup installer and Configuration.ini file. Open the latter in the text editor like Notepad. Add the following string in the 1st section [Default Values]:SS=0It'll disable SS mode drivers installation. Save the file, reinstall the drivers. I'd advice to remove existing modem drivers firstly.

Just got my x300 and downgraded from Vista to XP sp 3. I'm trying to activate the integrated Verizon Wireless card, Lenovo lists it as Sierra 5720. I've downloaded the driver, ran it rebooted as well as the update and the instructions say to go to device manager under "Modems" or "Systems" to look for the drivers but I find no listing of "Modem" before or after I installed the drivers. (Also I called Verizon Wireless and they have no information on integrated cards in x300's and VZAM.net does not list a download for the x300.) When I called support they told me to send my laptop in for repair or just return it because it's defective! Also I think there is something wrong with the mouse and keyboard as sometimes they stop responding or only get 1/2 of my input.

I just recently subscribed to Sprint Mobile Broadband from the 3G store, and I got the 598U Sierra USB Modem for $30, a free antenna, and bought a router from them.

My question is about the 5 gig limit that Sprint has on it's $60 a month service. If you exceed the limit, you get charged extra. Is there any type of tracking software that shows how much bandwidth has been used?

Answer:598U Sierra USB Modem & Sprint Mobile 5gig limit

What router are you using?

Usually when you use the aircards on your laptop the connection app keeps track of usage (I know sierra's apps do from experience, as does verizons). Through a router it depends on what you are using though.

I have a Lenovo X230t (tablet)  model 3434CTO that came with the Broadband upgradeable option.I asked the sale rep from Lenovo that sold me the x230t, for the Broadband Modem card, but she said they have none in stock and I would have to get it from a 3rd party, and the part number to get is 0A36186.So I purchased one brand new online and installed it.  The broadband modem card is recognized as a F5521gw......the driver installs fine, along with the update/drivers from Lenovo x230t support.I place my Rogers sim into the sim slot (properly oriented as in the service manual), but Acess Connections says "Sim card not present..."I have went back to rogers 3 times and tried 3 different sim cards......they all  report SIM card is not present. Insert card and try again.  Yet the cards all worked fine in a cell phone at rogers. I tried calling Lenovo tech support, twice, but had a bad phone connection both times and could hardly hear the tech and him hardly hear me.  but anyways what he ended up saying was that I need a Gobi Sim card!  Well, my rogers store rep broke out laughing and brought in 2 other rogers personal and told them, and they broke out laughing.........then said the only sim's that will work on the rogers network is a rogers sim.  They said the Lenovo tech is confused and that gobi makes the broadband cards only and not sims. So, now I need the truth.  How do I get my Rogers Sim card to be recognized? Is the Lenovo 0A36... I have this rather irritating problem in that whenever I install the drivers/software for my sierra airport 595u card, it kills the usb host controllers. By kill, I mean I get "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39) errors. This is on both my laptop and desktop I've tried this on. I don't even have the device plugged in when installing, but when I reboot this happens. Uninstalling the software doesn't work, only system restore before the install or format and re-install. I tried comparability mode for vista, no go.

Answer:Incompatability with Sierra Wireless?

Quick update. Apparently the drivers can be loaded if you do it manually. The device won't actually connect without the sprint pcs connection manager's services running. As near as I can tell, running them causes the computer to be unable to re-start any usb style devices. Any ideas?

WARNING!!! The instructions in this post are applicable only to EM7345 installed in Lenovo laptops!! For example, models T440, X240, X1 Carbon 2nd and 3rd gen, X250. For tablets or other devices don?t use the firmware given in this post, you can brick your EM7345! Unfortunately, the default factory EM7345 firmware version  (1.1) has some bugs. For example, after connecting to a LTE network and then disconnecting manually, the network status of the connection was changing for me to ?No service? until device restart. Also, the device often disappears from Device Manager and reappears there with the name ?1 CDC? and does not work until you disable and then enable it again in Device Manager. All those issues are caused by some bugs in EM7345 firmware. But there is a newer version of firmware, namely 1.2, where the above bugs are fixed. But by default, you cannot flash it, because firmware updating is supposed to work unattended. And this is not nice of Intel and Lenovo. The users must be able to do firmware updating when they need or want it! Bad, bad Lenovo, very bad! Here?s the instructions of how to flash your EM7345 to the latest version:Make sure you?re using Windows 8 or 8.1Go to the control panel and uninstall Sierra Wireless EM734x 4G LTE Software from Program and Features.Reboot your laptop.Download and install the latest EM7345 driver package from the Lenovo website. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-l... My lenovo came with Sierra Wireless MC5725 for use with Verizon's EVDO network. VZAccess manager (Verizons POS software) told me today that there was a firmware update for my Sierra Wireless device. This update failed, and now my device won't work.  I basically can't enable the device.  It doen't show up in my network list, and I can't turn it on using the fn+F5 screen. Where can I get the firmware for this thing?  Sierra Wireless says they don't support these OEM devices, and Lenovo has nothing regarding firmware on their site, only drivers. I hate Verizon.

I've installed Sierra MC8355 drivers on Windows 10 64-bit. Drivers installed successfully, Network connections show new 'Cellular' connection, Device manager shows new Sierra 8355 devices which have drivers installed. So it looks like everything is ok with drivers (Windows 8.1 drivers) on Windows 10. My question is - what should I install to be able to use that 3G and GPS? How can I perform a 3G connection and run GPS tracking? I tried software for Windows 7 - it failed.

Answer:Sierra Wireless MC8355 on Windows 10

Hi and welcome, OxeliPlease, clarify: aren't you able to establish 3g connection using win10 mobile broadband features? What are the symptoms? To enable GPS capabilities, reinstall the drivers with option GPS=1 in the setup command line (note, use the setup installer, not the drivers package). Or, if there is configuration file in the folder where drivers are being extracted, change appropriate settings within it.

any info. helping me in the right direction would be appreciated.

That is usually done via the Connection Manger software supplied by an ISP.  I have no idea what is supplied with a 7667-CTO, but the Sierra Wireless generic Connection Manager (on the Sierra web site) might work.

Hi - I've got a Lenovo Thinkpad X300 with an OEM Sierra Wireles MC8775 HSDPA card, driver 2.0.9.0, 1/11/2007. It has worked fine except in two instances: first when traveling from the US to Switzerland, upon arrival it "failed to initialize" the device as I tried to run the dialer. This was true despite cold restarts. About a day later it started working, and working consistently, in Switzerland. Upon return to the US exactly the same phenomenon: unable to initialize for about a day. Then, working fine.Lenovo is ready to replace the card, but does anyone know if this is a software or other glitch for which I shouldn't trouble them? Something having to do with switching countries?  (And do I appear to be running the latest firmware/drivers? Firmware is H1_1_9_3MCAP.) Thanks,JZ

Answer:Sierra Wireless AT&T WWAN issue

To follow up for any that come later: the card was replaced, but experienced the same phenomenon in going to the Netherlands and back again to the US.  This time I downloaded and ran the "Sierra Wireless Watcher."  After the wireless radio was turned on it sat at "searching..." for about five minutes, then found the new band.  Once found it sticks, so the regular Lenovo dialer can then be used.  So it's not a hardware problem, and there's a solution.  ...JZ

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 windows 10

HiOnce the modem drivers are installed, including Intel flash tool, and the sim card inserted, during laptop cold start the flash service checks out whether newer firmware is available according to current modem fw and the sim card data (more clearly, cellular operator MCC/MNC values), and performs the flashing process if it's needed, in auto mode. You should see appropriate notification from the flash service in the system tray.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I've trawled the net for ages but have found nothing. I believe I have a unique situation here and would love some help from some net savvy people. I have strong computing skills, but keep away from networks if possible. Hope someone here can help, would really appreciate it.

Here's my current setup:
- HP Pavillion Laptop with Windows 7
- Receiving internet from a USB connected wireless modem (Huawei model E160E)
It all works well, internet is fine, I'm happy.

Why I want to share this network connection:
I have a couple of iphones and a Nintendo Wii and we would like to connect them to the the laptops internet connection.

Other things I've tried first:
I DO understand "Connectify" is out there and have tried it but it just fails every time I've tried it, the devices that try to connect all just sit there trying to connect and time out.

My possible solution found:
So what I found deep in my cupboards is a Belkin N Wireless Modem Router (Model F5D8633-4). It's a relic from my days of having an ADSL connection. This was back in the days when I used to have a physical phone line. Ahh they were the days, a physical connection to my house. Imagine that!

What I intend to do with the the Belkin relic:
I want to still receive the connection to my windows 7 laptop as I currently do, but have that connection shared over the belkin wireless modem router so that the nintendo wii and iphones can then co... Read more

Answer:Unique Q: USB Huawei Wireless Modem to feed house via Belkin Wireless N Modem Router

You enable Internet Connection Sharing on the internet connection and configure the Belkin as follows.

JohnWill's procedure (Aug. 30, 2008) for configuring a secondary router as a switch and, optionally, wireless access point follows.

Connecting two (or more) SOHO broadband routers together.

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address, 192.168.0.253 for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. [You will not need a cross-over cable if one of the "routers... Read more

Just my 2cents, but have you tried putting the SIM in a regular handphone/cell phone?  Sometimes, some carriers may require you to "activate" the SIM.  You may also need to put in APN, etc information in the "Advanced Options".

I have a W520 and am looking to purchase a WWAN card.  I see that Sierra Wireless has the MC7750 card available (supports LTE, EV-DO and HSPA+).   Will the W520 support LTE, or am I just wasting my money getting a WWAN card with LTE support?

Answer:ThinkPad W520 and Sierra Wireless MC7750

The short answer: get the MC7750!Probably the biggest improvement isn't the raw download/upload speed of the unit, but rather the reduced network latencies. All the advertisements are only talking about the improvements in MBps, probably because it's the easiest thing to describe to people in 30 seconds or on a billboard. In reality MBps only matters if you are watching video, or downloading large files. Most of the delay time for other applications comes from the several hundred milliseconds it takes the computers to make a round trip communication. Each time you click something on the web, there are several rounds of communication which can add up. If your current connection has a 400ms delay (as mine does) it takes several seconds each time for anything to happen. Some better connections like HSPA are supposed to have about 100ms latency, but LTE is going to push that down to about 40ms.  Can you tell that I'm excited about getting LTE  I'm planning on getting the MC7750 as soon as Lenovo releases it. Unfortunately, every time I call in, I seem to be told that it's just a month or so away. I've been hearing that line for almost 4 months now. I was also told that I will be able to upgrade my existng x220, which had better be true otherwise I'm going to be royally pissed because I bought the system with that understanding. You may find my thread on the MC7750 for the x220 device interesting.http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Does-quot-Bro... Yesterday I updated KB905866 along with a group of Microsoft Office updates and upon restart, my Sierra Wireless Air Card program crashes. I get a vague "Watcher has stopped working" Windows says that it is collecting information, but can't because there is no internet connection. So far I have:

Uninstalled and reinstalled the air card application
Uninstalled KB905866

I am running an sfc/scannow, although I am not sure how the information will assist me in fixing the problem. Here is the thread from another KB browser issue, dated in 2009:

Microsoft update KB905866 and internet connection

Hopefully someone can help me fix the problem. Thanks!

Answer:Sierra Wireless Watcher conflict with KB 905866

update: The scf scan came up empty..."Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

Hi Support, I would like to change a setting, so that the Sierra Wireless Adapter only connects to 4G networks. In Windows 10, I cannot see anywhere where I can easily set this. I would expect there to be mobile management software where these settings could be changed. I never want to connects to GPRS, and would like my Sierra Wireless mobile card to only connect to 4G or not connect at all. This would prevent the card dropping down to GPRS when the signal is temporarily weak and force it it to try for a 4G connection. I have had similar functionality on prior USB mobile data cards I.e. Vodafone, and hence the expectation that there would be similar settings on the Sierra Wireless. Thank you, George

Hi I have a Lenovo T410 from my work, and when I check Modems it says it has Sierra Wireless AirCard HSDPA Modem, but can't see this in network adaptors. How do I use this with my 3G data card? Thanks KB

Answer:Lenovo T410 Sierra Wireless Aircard and 3G SIM?

@KevB,Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think the Sierra WWAN card is supported on the ThinkPad, I can't seem to find the drivers for Sierra card when checking on the support site.Drivers for WWAN for T410 based on the Lenovo Support site are for the following modems.-Ericsson-HuaWei-Qualcomm-LeadcoreThe sim slot for the WWAN would be behind the battery. Remove the battery and you can see the slot with the plastic to pull the dummy sim card out. Note that even if there is no modem installed, there still would be a dummy slot there.

Will Lenovo add official support for Sierra Wireless MC7710 http://www.sierrawireless.com/productsandservices/AirPrime/Wireless_Modules/High-speed/MC7710.aspx please ? It is LTE/HSPA+ WWAN "Gobi 4000" module for Europe region. By support I mean to whitelist the device in BIOS at least, assuming the WWAN card will be Lenovo branded one for X230 model. Please consider that many of us could wait for X230 with official 4G WWAN support but the keyboard layout change was unacceptable so we bought X220 instead. Because Lenovo don't want to introduce ThinkPad classic keyboard as X230 option they could allow X220 owners to use up-to-date WWAN cards instead.

Answer:X220 support for 4G/LTE Sierra Wireless MC7710 WWA...

There is a little bit problem for implementing full featured LTE support in x220 - mc7710 needs 3 antennas. Perhaps one of them is for GPS only, I don't have clear information. MC7700/7750 support restricted number of bands for US market so may be they don't need 3rd antenna in x230. We'll see some answers when x230' parts list will be published and compare antennas FRU.But your request is very important for me too.

All, I'd really like to be able to purchase a wireless cellular card for my X220T that is capable of connecting with Verizon 4G LTE at 4G LTE speeds.   This is particular of interest since Verizon is strongly looking into Family Data Share Plans where testing is to begin either 2nd Quarter or 3rd Quarter this year. http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/02/28/verizon.to.bring.out.shared.data.plans.in.summer/ I contacted Sierra Wireless  about their AirPrime cards and they say that Lenovo has to flash the cards with some stuff before they can actually work on the Lenovo laptops.   So, I'd really like to be able to have one of the 4G AirPrime cards ready when Family Data Plans are made available.  I can turn my phone into a wireless hotspot.  However, that drains the battery really really fast (about 1% a minute).  The integrated solution is therefore the more ideal solution even when considering a card vs a usb stick.  I'm guessing the card would draw less power.  Plus you don't have to worry about carrying around a usb stick you may lose. This card should be tested to work with both Windows 7 and Windows 8.  And there should be a way to toggle power to the card on/off just like with bluetooth and wifi.  This list of AirPrime cards Sierra Wireless makes are here: http://www.sierrawireless.com/productsandservices/AirPrime/Wireless_Modules/High-speed.aspx I think the one that is neede... I'm sure it is technically possible but I fear Lenovo will not be willing to suport LTE cards in older models.

I have the Lenovo X1 Carbon 20A7003JUS with Sierra Wireless EM7355.  Using the Latest drivers from Lenovo.  I signed up with AT&T and trying to get a Static IP address to work (AT&T Rep set it up with i2gold).  I believe my issue is with assigning the proper APN when I connect to AT&T.  Just to be clear if I just use the Sierra connection on AT&T and not worry about the static IP.  I get blazing fast connections. I know I can setup the APN with the connection using the AT&T Allaccess software but when I install the software (tried multiple versions) it never sees my Sierra connection.  It either says Modem unplugged or no broadband card detected. Has anyone setup a static IP using AT&T on a X1 Carbon?

If I have understand correctly EM7345 is made specifically for Lenovo based on their requirements and specifications. Lenovo is also responsible for this firmware....on Carbon X1 etc...   I found an interesting AT command for Sierra Wireless EM7345. The command is ?AT+XCIQ?. There?s the following text string in EM7345 firmware file (it is present in any version so far): +XCIQ CIQ: Carrier IQ enable/disable.Let?s try to get ?help? about this command:  AT+XCIQ=? +XCIQ: (0-1) OK1234AT+XCIQ=?+XCIQ: (0-1) OKSo, we can suppose that 0 disables this Carrier IQ feature, and 1 enables it.Let?s read the current setting of this feature: AT+XCIQ? +XCIQ: 1 OK1234AT+XCIQ?+XCIQ: 1 OKLooks like it?s on by default. Let?s try to switch it off?NOTE: If you?re running firmware earlier than 1522.02, don?t enter the following command! If we try to enter: AT+XCIQ=01AT+XCIQ=0i.e try to disable Carrier IQ, EM7345 will have a fatal crash and reboot into boot flashing mode and it will be stuck there for good. So, Carrier IQ is always on and if you try to turn it off using the above AT command, that will kill the device! With firmware version 1522.02, AT+XCIQ=0 returns OK and there?s no fatal crash like in previous firmware versions. Also AT+XCIQ now accepts 3 possible values with 1522.02 firmware: AT+XCIQ=? +XCIQ: (0-2) OK1234AT+XCIQ=?+XCIQ: (0-2) OKSo, 0 must be disable, 1 enable, and what is 2? I have an X1 Yoga 20FQ with Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit and a Sierra Wireless EM7455 WAN card that came with the unit from Lenovo and an AT&T micro SIM card (also in the unit when it came from Lenovo). I also have the latest Lenovo software for the Sierra Wireless card (v. 7.47.4743.0105) from the Lenovo web site. The WAN card will connect to HPSA on AT&T (using the "default APN" and "broadband" in the Win 10 settings) but it will not connect to AT&T LTE. The AT&T web site at https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1218316 says to use NXTGENPHONE as the APN, but when I input that as the APN the card does not see it at all. I know that NXTGENPHONE is the LTE APN because that is the APN that my cell phone uses for its LTE data connection. AT&T tech support told me I the Windows 10 and NXTGENPHONE APN settings are correct and the AT&T diagnostics show I an LTE connection is available to me.I realize that there can be sources for this problem (Win 10 or AT&T) but I thought I would ask here to see whether anyone has experienced the problem or has a solution.Thanks.

HiI hope you mean em7355, so the thread title has a typo. Please, specify.em7355 is useless in Sri Lanka LTE networks as it is suitable for North America networks mainly. Do your SIM card or contract with cellilar operator have LTE only service restrictions? In your country this modem will work in 3G networks only, depending on the cellular operator.

I have a W510 laptop and recently acquired a Sierra Wireless 250U cellular device from Sprint. This device allows for both 3G and 4G service.  This is accomplished through the installation of two network adapters.  Although the 3G service works great, I cannot connect to the 4G service. I found that the WiMAX adapter is shown in the Device Manager with an exclamation mark.  A Code 12 Error is shown on the device.  Typically with Code 12 errors, the dialog box will show which other device conflicts with the current one.  The dialog box shows "No Conflicts".  There is however, a question mark (?) next to the I/O Range. Any suggestions on how to get this device to work on my Lenovo? Thanks.

Answer:X1 Carbon - Driver Sierra Wireless EM7345 ?

Hi, jkuengWhat's the OS installed on your laptop? For win8/8.1 there are no needs for drivers if the card is in MBIM mode. It must work natively in OS. Let's check it. Look at the Device Manager, open Network Adapters item. You should see something with AiarCard. Open Properties, Details tab, pull down Options list, find out an item Compatible ID. Looks like USB\Class_xx&SubClass_xx&Prot_xx). Copy the values and past here. Will look.

Also, could you, please, post here USB IDs of this card? Find it at the same list under Hardware ID item (looks like VID_xxxx&PID_xxxx).

I'm having the same problem with my Sierra Wireless 7345 on a W550s running Windows 10. It came with the laptop, so I'm sure it's supposed to be compatibile. I think it's a driver compatibility problem. Unfortunately, I've just chalked it up to the "Windows/Lenovo" tax - some things work, others just don't. I've gotten no reponse from Lenovo.
