Device Descriptor fali code 43

Question: Device Descriptor fali code 43

Hi all I have a Ideacentre K430 running on win 8.1. Used to run on win 8 After i upgraded to win 8.1, my WD My Book 4TB external Harddisk shows the problem as shown above. Used to be running fine and it can work on other win 7 or 8 terminals. Any way i can solve this. I have contacted WD but they say its not a device problem so they cannot help. I contacted Mricrosoft after some remote troubleshooting they told me i need to download the latest motherboard drivers which i did. But all solutions do not work. I tried googling for solutons and have tried microsoft message analyzer also to no avail. I am running out of options. Anyone able to help? Thanks in advance. RegardsAndrew

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

Hi onyx,
This error means a device driver notified the operating system that the device failed. This circumstance can occur if the device hardware fails or if the device driver fails.
Have you tried to update the device driver for test?
Please follow this guide trying t resolve this issue:

I'm experiencing slim keyboard not being recognized in the Windows 8.1
The keyboard was working fine until just one day it just stopped working.
I tried factory reset literally 8 times along with most recent BIOS update and dell's recommended update software. + power setting --> disabling power saving on USB
It still come up as unrecognized each time even with fresh reinstall.
I was wondering if this is a hardware issue or just software bug from factory reset.
I don't think there is a available driver for this kind of problem is there?

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

I have tried a few different windows images, windows troubleshooting feature, and the latest versions of the drivers.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, disabling and re-enabling, re-imaging, updating windows. None have had the effect of actually making it work. I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?
Thanks

Answer:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

Tried uninstalling and restarting PC. Reinstalled Windows made from media tool. Nothing fixed it. Did a google search and nothing has worked. No USB drivers on the PC maker's website.

Any ideas?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

You can try going into device manager > select show hidden devices and delete all "inactive" usb device appearances. In my example below, there would be four. Once done, reboot and try your device again:

Hello everyone,
i hope you can help me sorting out this issue that is causing me a hard headache at the moment.

I've bought this new Lenovo Z50-70 laptop with windows 8.1 preinstalled on it. Fresh new.

I'm trying to connect via usb a guitar audio interface (Line6 POD HD500) so i installed the drivers via the .exe setup file i downloaded from Line6's site.
The device worked fine on my previous HP pavilion with windows 7.

Now when i completed the installation, i connected it and i had this error:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
I used slimdrivers to update all the other drivers, in case it was a conflict causing the error.
I checked via command prompt with command "pnputil -e" and i saw a driver from the vendor of the device listed, so it is installed correctly i think.
I tried all USB ports i have, 3.0 and 2.0 on one side of laptop and 2.0 on other side.

When on device manager, if i click update drivers and choose the "let me pick from a list of device drivers.." i don't see the company name of the device.

i saw that another guy posted a really similar problem on SevenForum and he figured out how to force windows to use the drivers but he didn't post the solution.. Here is the post: Can't get Windows 7 x64 to use the drivers I've installed repeatedly Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

Fresh install of Windows 10 and the last driver I need to sort out is the above.

I believe it is my powered USB 3 hub to which I plug in my keyboard and mouse. Technically it is working but I don't like seeing yellow triangles on devices.

So are there any fixes?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)

If it's a generic USB 2.0 Powered Hub then technically there's should be no drivers needed by Windows, if it's a USB 3.0 Hub then I'm unsure (since I don't own any USB 3.0 Hubs).

Might be a Windows bug, basically Windows can't find the description information to display the Hub's name in the Device Manager example: Generic USB Hub, Root Hub Device, etc....

I'm pretty sure everything is working as should, you're good minus the minor annoyance if all device connected through the USB Hub is recognized by Windows; if you right click Properties on the yellow triangle it probably says "The Device is working properly".

When my girlfriend connects external USB device to any of the USB ports on Windows 10 Home she gets message:
USB Device Not Recognized.
She can not charge USB device via USB port.
I went to device manager and under USB Controllers I see following:
Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptor Request Failed).
I tried some tricks I googled for this message but none of them returned result.
She didn't get any of the drivers with this device which needs to charge.
What should I do to be able to charge this device via USB?

Answer:USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed

Try the device on a different USB port. This will figure out if problem is caused by a broken port.
Connect the device to another PC. This will figure out if the external device has problem.

Open Device Manager and expand category Universal Serial Bus Controllers and locate the USB device which is not being recognized by Windows.

Right-click on the device and select Uninstall from the context menu.

After finishing the uninstallation, restart your PC then Windows will reinstall the device automatically.

The problem can be caused by faulty USB driver. In this case, updating driver would fix the problem.

Obtaining Hardware ID's to help Identify Hardware
- Go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Expand the "Unknown USB Device" category by clicking on the + sign to the left of it
- Right click on the "Unknown device" (if there's more than one, do this for all of them) and select Properties.
- Then select the Details tab.
- In the dropdown box, select "Hardware IDs" - and match the info to one of the following descriptions:
- - If the Hardware IDs description contains VEN_ and DEV_, then let us know the 4 characters immediately after the VEN_ and the 4 characters immediately after the DEV_
this is a PCI device and we'll look up the information at http://www.pcidatabase.com

My computer keeps telling me Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed), so I looked up how to fix it and they told me to uninstall it then scan for hardware changes and it will reappear working properly. Only it did not come back working properly, it came back the same. I am also 98% sure that this "unknown USB device" is my built-in webcam that has never once worked. So if someone wants to help me out and allow me to use my webcam that would be great!

I know that a similar question has been asked before but, not with the last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
My question is; has anyone heard of Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?? Very.

Any/all ideas, appreciated.

ps, I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Is there only one USB port on the right hand side? Sometimes manufacturers connect internal devices via an unused USB port internally. USB ports are usually in groups of two, seeing only one port is usually a sign that the wiring has been redirected internally to something else like a Bluetooth adapter or wifi adapter. It may even be a card reader or touchpad. Is anything like that not working? If it is start looking for a driver for it.

I am running the Lenovo Ideapad y510p (the GT755m SLI version). I had my USB mouse and my flash drive connected to the 2x 3.0 USB ports (the ones on the left), everything was fine until suddenly both of them stopped working. When I try connecting the flash drive nothing happens, however, when I try connecting the USB mouse it says Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) in the device manager, windows error message "USB Device not recognized" also pops up in the bottom right corner. When I try connecting either of them (the mouse of the flash drive) to the 3rd USB port (the usb 2.0 port) they both work perfectly fine without any errors at all. I would like to know what may have caused that error and if there is any solution at all. Thanks in advance, Mersif.

Answer:Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

hi kmugal,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums

The issue that your having is most likely the one discussed in this article.

If you have tried the USB 3.0 (x2) and USB 2.0 (x1) ports with the same issue, consider the following:
1. Unplug all USB peripherals connected on the machine
2. Run Windows Update to get the latest patch and bug fixes (reboot if necessary) and try the USB devices.

If the problem remains, consider going back to Windows 8 by doing a Refresh or Reset to isolate any issues on the OS level.

Regards

Most of the threads on this error are old, (2015) so I am starting a new one. I only notice it when I happen to be in the device manager. I have no problems with any of my connected USB devices (that I have observed).

I have tried uninstalling it, and rescanning and it pops up again, so apparently it is something that is connected. Without disconnecting All of my USB devices one at a time (which I am wont to do, as it is not bothering me, other than that it is there!) It has been there for quite a while, so apparently is not anything new being connected.

Is there no way to identify WHAT is connected to this port, or even what port it is?

BTW, it only shows up in the USB Controller section, no matching errors in any of the devices themselves!

Curiouser and curiouser...

Hi.
In Device Manager, right-click the problem device and select Properties. In the General Tab, it gives the error code. In the Details tab, use the arrow down to select Hardware Ids. Then google the ID to identify. Could be an internal USB connection to something like wifi, BT, or card reader. Those cables do go bad sometimes.
Example: USB\VID_046D&PID_0A04&REV_0007

So this kept happening before and then it stopped being problematic for a while..unfortunately the issue has once again returned. In Event Viewer it says usbhci or something. When this issue occurs a few things happen:
All USB devices cease to function until system is rebootedNetwork controller ceases to function
Event Viewer also shows an error (in System pane) for Kernel=PnP:

Hey, I have some errors in device manager like port reset failed and device descriptor request failed.Long striy short: I have already tried all the standard answers several times. I dont know wich device is/was the one who caused the error. It coud be mine (already contected everything I have) or of some other person. My probem is not the "problem"... What really annoys me is windows keeping refreshing the device manager and with that causing my pc to freeze for a second randomly. I have unsinstalled the device, plugged the pc off power for minutes, tried to remove with usbdview and usboblivion and all the stuff with energy options! The thing is that an error loke that seems to not be a big thing, but I cant use my PC anymore. I need windows to stop trying to reset the usb port or whatever it does, just forget about the error/device. Has anyone an idea how to get rid o this? Thank you and hope the answers will help other too!

Answer:Device Descriptor Request failed

Hi timniko. Welcome to the TenForums @timniko

Can I ask when did this problem start? Had you added a device?

Have you tried resetting your BIOS? (Before you do please ensure you document or know current customizations?)

Have you check manufacture's site for a newer BIOS? Not recommending you update BIOS but it would be nice to know if they have a newer version. Updating BIOS has its own risks which can result in a "Bricked" machine.

I assume this problem happens with all external USB devices removed, correct?

Is it possible to get Hardware id's from device manager for problematic devices?

Let me start out by saying that I've googled the shit out of this problem, tried several things, and nothing worked.

I have a D-Link USB 2.0 Hub that I got about a week ago. It's been working awesome up until recently. It's a plug and play device, however windows is failing to recognize it, and thus making everything I have plugged into it unusable.

In the 'Device Status' box it says:

Code:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43)A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

And in the 'Events' tab, there's a few listed, I'm not sure if they are much help:

Hello
I have a USB device (X.Vision PCDVB-3100)
It work properly in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
But now in Windows 10 when I connect it to USB port, The Windows give me this error:

?Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
A request for the USB device descriptor failed.?

How I can solve this problem?

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed

Probably the USB port cannot provide enough power to the device, so Windows cannot properly identify it. Try connecting it to a different USB port. If problem persist, the only solution is to use a powered USB hub that will provide the power necessary. Also some devices have problem working on a USB 3.0 port (blue), try using a USB 2.0 port (black).

Hi,
I have an USB device (an embedded system that I am developing) and associated driver.
It has one interface with two endpoints (BULK IN and BULK OUT) and control endpoint.
When I connect that USB device to PC, then device driver is getting associated with device and I am able to use the device.

Now I have updated USB device descriptor to have one more interface (all other information like VID, PID are same and also existing interface is not altered). Now it has: one control endpoint, one interface with BULK IN and BULK OUT and another interface
with BULK IN endpoint.

When I connect this USB device with modified device descriptor, USB driver is not getting associated and giving me error code: 10 (0xA).

Device driver software is from 3rd party.

Now I am not sure if error is thrown by windows kernel or device software.
Please help me in debugging this.

Any log files/events that can be enabled when device is connected and how driver is loaded, what checks are performed by kernel to load the driver etc (I believe it only looks at VID and PID).

FYI: Same setup works on Linux environment (looks liek linux just ignores this additional interface added)

Rgds,
Venkat.

I have two WD "My Book" 3.0 USB drives.  Previously, they both worked fine.  Now one of the two drives is getting a device descriptor request failed message.  The other drive is fine.  I have tried different 3.0 inputs on the system both in back and on top in the front.  Any ideas on why the same drive isn't working?  I have tried both on other systems and they work fine.  The other systems I have tried them on are WIN7 and WIN 8.1.

Answer:usb 3.0 drives getting device descriptor failed error

Hi there slovey  Have you, by any chance tried with another USB cable? I wouldn't make sense to change things as the device works on other systems but it wouldn't hurt to use the other My Book's cable with the problematic one just to rule this out as a potential cause. I would also check this thread and see if the offered solutions there help.  Keeping your OS, BIOS and drivers up to date is also an important part of the troubleshooting process. I'd also check if there's a new update specifically for the driver responsible for the communication between the drive and the system. Post back if you need more info! Captain_WD.

I have a flash drive that I previously used in public computer lab (where many viruses linger) the other day to do my work. As I got home, the flash drive isn't working anymore, saying "USB Device not Recognized". I also noticed that it really took me a while to finally, safely remove it from the computer lab's PC. So I actually wonder if it actually removed my flash drive properly.

On Device Manager, it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
On the Properties, the device status says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) -- A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

My flash drive is a Kingston Flash Drive DataTraveler (DT100) 16GB, and my PC is running on Windows 8.1.

Things I have tried:
- Shut down my PC, unplugged power and removed battery, waited for a while, booted my PC and try plugging in again.
- On Device Manager, uninstalled it and scanned for hardware changes, it still returns as "Unknown USB Device".
- On Device Manager, I clicked "Update Driver Software..." and it returns me a message saying "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
- Unfortunately, when I visited Kingston's website to check if there is driver for this specific flash drive, there isn't any... "There are no downloads or drivers available for this product".
- Used Windows 8's Troubleshooting tool. It only detected my problem, but was un... Read more

Answer:USB not recognized (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

if you have tried on other systems using different OS then the error is normally because of issues with the item not the PC , it might be 'confused' or have corrupted data or be faulty.

If you have the data still stored elsewhere...then you may be able to reset the flash drive and see if it recognises it then.

I'm not sure if there is a reset switch anywhere on that stick.

the installation process stumbles when it asks you to connect the printer cable to the computer.

It works on my wifes hp streambook and also my kids stream book both are running wondows 10 like mine. I have tried nearly 10 different suggestions from google searches and have gotten nowhere. The only thing I couldnt try was turning off the usb in the power options, for some reason mine doesnt display that option. My notebook only has 1 usb port so I cant try a different port. Any suggestions or fixes?

Windows 10 Home

Hi, I just bought a new HDD today and freshly installed windows 10 and have ran into this problem: when I plug in my wireless XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad from Speedlink I get the "Unknown USB Device (Invalid Configuration Descriptor)" error. I'm adding the screenshots.

This device worked perfectly on windows 7 yesterday, so the controller definitely isn't damaged physically and it does work on a different PC(windows 7).

Hi all,

(Unknown USB Device - A request for the USB device descriptor failed)

Massive problem I have encountered since buying a new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1

I have 3 external USB storage devices - 1x Corsair "Slider" 64GB, 1x HiTachi Touro 750GB, & 1x HiTachi 4TB external drive. ALL drives are coming up with the same error message and are not being recognized by Windows 8.1

The strange thing is, I also have another 2 PCs - one with Win7 and one with WinXP and the drives work without issue.

I've spent the last 4 days scouring the net looking for answers, and thus I am here hoping someone can shed some light as to why ALL of these drives do not work on this new laptop pre-installed with Windows 8.1?

Even stranger still is I have other thumb drives, a cheap Transcend 32GB (which is USB3.0) and a few cheapo (USB2.0) drives of various sizes by Strontium, Lexar and so on which work perfectly.

But the one that has me o.O is an expensive 64GB thumb drive called the Mach Extreme which also works perfectly with this laptop???

So all up 2x HiTachi drives & 1x Corsair thumb drive are not working and its driving me bonkers!

If no drives worked at all, then I would be seeking the manufacturer for maybe a faulty component. Dodgy USB ports, or maybe a motherboard problem. But having a handfull of drives, of various makes, sizes and both USB3.0 - 2.0 fully working leaves me scratching the old chrome dome as to what could be the issue

Would really real... Read more

Answer:A request for the USB device descriptor failed. (error43)

You can mark this thread as SOLVED!

Okay here's the fix that worked for me, maybe it will work for you.

I've always updated drivers, WinXP, Win7 and so on, the same way - download the driver, go into device manager and select browse, then point windows to the downloaded driver to update the necessary files. Its always worked that way for me for as long as I can remember.

Not so it appears with windows 8 - for some strang reason.

For me I had to update to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers, but instead of the tried and trusted methos above, you simply hit the setup.exe and let windows 8 do its thing. Believe it or not, but this fixed the issue.

Yes I had already updatd to the latest Intel Chipset Drivers using the device manager method, and yes windows "did" update ...someting??? But the USB devices were still showing the Unknown USB Device error. But using the setup.exe fixed the everything and all my USB devices are now working perfectly with Windows 8.

How, why, who knows, but I hope this works for others with the same problem.

Hi,
I sporadically gets the "USB Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed"; however, while I have 6 USB devices connected, none of them seem to be the cause of the error. When I use devmgmt.msc to get the Hardware Ids, the value is simply "USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE". I use TARGET software to control two joysticks and a rudder. (Besides these three USB devices I have a keyboard, a mouse and a TrackIR 5). In some instances everything works even though I got the error but in others instances none of the joysticks are working as expected. Sometimes restarting the computer helps or uninstalling the "mystic" USB device, however the problem always reappear and I would really like to get rid of it permanently.
Anyone got some idea what could be causing this?
I have updated all drivers but it did not help.
Thanks,
Klaus

Hello Ladies & Gents.

I would like to ask for your assistance on this slightly annoying problem.

I have 1 pair of Razer Megalodon USB headphones, on the start up of Windows 8.1 these headphones are not detected correctly. The only proof I have of this is in the device manager displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

(Please see attached screenshots)

Once the device is disconnected and reconnected device manager then displays:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers -
USB Composite Device

The device then shows in "Audio inputs and outputs"

Cheers,

Mr Collective

Answer:Razer Megalodon - (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Razer is well known for BSOD drivers and problems, otherwise. (And taking very old drivers, changing nothing at all, giving it a new date and then claiming "Compatible!" with new OS.)

Perhaps give a shot with uninstalling their software, rebooting, the re-installing.

Make sure using the latest.

When all is said and done, you might just have to live with it.

Can't hurt to make sure chipset drivers are up to date. If Intel chipset, search their driver site for "Inf"

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Lenovo B50-70 Laptop. It has 2x USB 3.0 and 1x USB 2.0 ports.

It started when I removed a USB mouse from the USB 2.0 port. I had a message flash up saying
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.
If I go to Device Manager and 'Uninstall' the device, then plug the mouse back in and 'Scan for Hardware changes' it works. However whenever I unplug it I get the same error. I've tried doing them same thing and plugin in other devices, (my phone, a memory stick) and The error comes back. If nothing is in the port and I scan for hardware changes I get that message again.

Any ideas how to fix? It is almost as if the machine doesn't detect the mouse is unplugged and thinks it's gone wrong. The USB 3 ports are fine.

I've tried...
Checking for Driver/bios updates.
Cleaning the port.
Uninstalling all USB Drivers and reinstalling

Hi All,

Thought i would make this thread as i see others with the same issue. I have just built a new PC and i get the following error randomly.

"The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

The issue with this is i don't actually connect anything to the PC. the message just appears randomly then fixes it self on reboot only to happen again later.

I have reinstalled USB Drivers and the issue persists.
I only have two devices connected to the PC:
Razer Death Adder Mouse
Logitech K350 Wireless Keyboard.

I'm designing a USB device with Microchip's MLA v2015-08-10 on a PIC24FJ128GB202(http://www.kynix.com/Parts/158263/PIC24FJ128GB202-I%2FSP.html). The device works as expected on my Fedora 23 Linux system. It enumerates and is recognized as a HID device.
On Windows it does not enumerate. I tried a Windows 10 laptop and Windows 7 in a virtual machine on my Linux system. Both say: "A request for the USB device descriptor failed." (Code 43)
When I analyze the traffic with Microsoft Message Analyzer I find this error: Get Device Descriptor - USBD_STATUS_STALL_PID
I find no solutions online and have no idea where to look next. I assume my code on the PIC is working fine since it runs on Linux. It's clearly not a driver issue since I can't even get the device descriptor. And it isn't a problem with the system since it fails on different devices with different Windows versions.
Does anybody have an idea where to continue my search? An explanation of the differences in USB device enumeration between Windows and Linux might already help a lot.

I'm attempting to help my daughter fix her USB issue, so the information I have about the computer is minimal at this point. The computer is and HP Pavilion a6710t Desktop PC. It has a Foxconn motherboard. Here's the story, She's been using this computer for a couple of years, was running Window Vista. One day her wireless mouse and keyboard quit working. I gave her a usb mouse to try to no avail. The message when we plug any USB device that previously worked on her computer is 'Unknown sub device, device descriptor request failed'. After doing much research online and attempting a multitude of fixes from online sources I had the bright idea (being the computer genius that I am (NOT!)) to update her Operating system to either Windows 7 or Windows 8. She chose Windows 8. Here I'm thinking if I wipe the hard drive, do a clean install of Windows 8, the problem would be fixed. Boy was I wrong, still no USB ports are working. Makes no sense to me unless it's the hardware itself. Any suggestions? Ideas?

Answer:USB ports inoperable, error says, device descriptor request failed.

Based on what you have tried, it does seem to be a hardware error. One more thing to try is check the CMOS battery's voltage. It's usually a CR2032 rated at 3 Volt. Carefully remove it after unplugging the PC from the socket outlet, and check the voltage with a digital multimeter.

Is this a USB adapter? Does the error go away if the adapter is removed? With the yellow flag in Device Manager, right click it and Uninstall it. Remove the USB Device from the computer end and Restart your computer. When the computer comes back up, plug the USB device into different USB port of the computer.

I am having a problem isolating an indication in the Device Manager with the High Definition Audio Device. I have Intel Graphics with this machine. The OS is W10 Pro. Answer:High Definition Audio Device - Device Cannot Start (Code 10)

Hi @JS2045 The problem HD audio device you are seeing is the Intel HDMI audio device that needs a driver. I looked around for a W10 driver for the hardware ID you posted, and can't find one. You don't need that device unless you want/need audio through the display port. The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W7 Intel graphics driver from your notebook's support and driver page, but install it this way...so that you just target the problem audio device... Download, but don't run this graphics driver... http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=4095873&swItemId=ob_127914_1&swEnvOid=4059 Download and install this free file utility.  64 bit is the second file listed. http://www.7-zip.org/ After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file you downloaded, and select 7-zip from the list of items. Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the driver to the folder name (sp64360). Go to the device manager and click on the problem Intel HD audio device needing the driver. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way. Then reboot. If you explore the driver folder 7-zip created, and open the DisplayAudio folder, you will find the setup informa... My IDT audio works fine and my laptop's sound works fine, but when I hoop up my laptop to my TV through a HDMI cord I get my laptop's video output displayed on my TV but no sound from my laptop is output to my TV. I think the problem is because there is something wrong with my High Definition Audio Device. It has a yellow triangle next to it with a ! in the middle of the yellow triangle in device manager under Sound, video, and game controllers. And when I click properties on the High Definition Audio Device, it says, " This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful". Any help would be great. Windows 10 is CLEAN installed on a NEW HARD DRIVE. I DID NOT upgrade, windows 10 was clean installed from a disk.

Hi: Yes, that is the Intel HDMI audio device that is having a problem. See if this works...right click on it, and select uninstall. Check the Uninstall Driver box and restart the PC. Hopefully the HDMI audio driver will reinstall itself properly. If not, I have one other trick up my sleeve.

Hey! First things first, I'm running an Aspire V3-772g laptop. After the recent Windows 10 update, I was having issues getting past the lock screen (took AGES to get to the point where I could input my password) and it had been a while, so I reformatted ('reset my PC' deleting all files) - this actually didn't solve my problem, so I used Rufus with a Windows 10 iso from Microsoft to delete all partitions and REALLY start fresh. Ever since, the laptop is running like a dream--in all but one respect. It seems like no matter WHAT I do, I CANNOT get my HDMI audio / TV to appear as an option in Playback Devices (yes, disabled devices is ticked). Looking in Device Manager, the High Definition Audio Device has an exclamation mark is throwing a code 10 - device unable to start. I've tried uninstalling it, tried installing all drivers from Intel's V3-772g page including chipset, updated my graphics driver / Realtek / Intel HD audio drivers... and yet, nothing. Ran /sfc, ran /chkdsk, nothing. I read something that led me to believe .NET framework might be part of the issue--and I did actually have quite a bit of difficulty getting 3.5 installed / functional, but I finally did...... and still, nothing!! I'm seriously losing my mind. I'm having to run my surround sound through an auxiliary cable into the laptop, which is just sacrilege and a fraction of the quality. If there is ANYTHING, ANYONE can suggest beyond the above, please do!!

I am having an issue where my DVD/CD RW has a code 19 error in device manager. The drive still works as I used it to boot a Windows CD and run a startup repair to see if that found anything. I tried uninstalling the drive and then scanning and it failed to install the drive. I also tried uninstalling the drive and rebooting, but it wouldn't install. Any suggestions?

We have some symbol windows mobile-based handheld devices that we use in our business.  We connect these devices to our computers to copy files to.  This all worked fine until recently the devices come up as failed.
It appears in device manager with a yellow exclamation point.
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged.  (Code 19)
I've tried all the solutions I can find on the web and none of them work.
Including:
Uninstall the device in device manager and scan for changes.  It downloads the driver from windows-update and returns to code 19.
Tried hardware troubleshooter which basically seems to automate the process of uninstalling and scanning.
I've tried removing windows media player 12 feature and adding it back.
I've tried deleting USB controllers from Device Manager and rebooting, it re-detects them all and still gets code 19 on the device.
I've tried deleting upper and lower filter values in the registry which I found out later is mainly for CD/DVD devices, that didn't fix anything.
I've tried removing and re-installing Windows Mobile Device Center and driver pack and that did not fix it either.
Additionally Canon Powershot camera gives us similar results.  MTP USB Device failed.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums.

Do you have Kaspersky installed? Kaspersky Filter driver caused that any USB device could not connect.

It is suggested to have a look at the following registry. Make a backup of it and remove the Upperfilters setting:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{EEC5AD98-8080-425F-922A-DABF3DE3F69A}

“Upperfilters” = klfltdrv

If the issue persists, please find a working machine and compare the registry settings.

I've just upgraded my 6 year old computer from Win XP to Win 7.

In Device Manager, there is an item with a yellow caution under Other Devices called "PCI Input Device". The Device Properties indicates Code 28. I searched both the Internet and the computer but couldn't find a driver.

I ran Belarc Advisor and didn't see any hardware errors.

There doesn't seem to be any more specific clues regarding the component causing this error and there also doesn't seem to be any hardware that isn't working. (at least not that I have found)

Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this problem?

I'm having trouble installing a PCI wireless card, TP-Link WN851N. When I install the drivers I get the device manager error, "The Device Cannot Start (Code 10)," so I can't connect to any network. I'm using Windows XP SP3 32bit.

I've tried the following:
Uninstalling drivers and reinstalling
Uninstalling the device from driver manager
Installing new drivers
Installing new drivers with windows "new device has been found" utility
Moving the card to 3 different PCI slots
Removing all other PCI cards (sound card)

One curious thing, when I try to install the new drivers I downloaded, I first have to uninstall the previous drivers, and it uninstalls them for a while and seems to have uninstalled them, but at the end it gives a message: "The driver files you wish to remove will not be removed as the corresponding card is not inserted."

Is there any way to check if the actual card could be damaged? I assume that since it is being recognized by windows in some way that it's working, and is having some kind of conflict which I do not know how fix, but the status LED's on the card itself are not working.

Answer:The Device Cannot Start (Code 10)

To see whether it works, you could try it with an Ubuntu livecd.

Other things to try:
* Check registry for the old driver and see whether it's really being uninstalled
* Install the drivers in Windows 2000 compatibility mode
* Try an older driver (there are many listed for your card)
* Use a different IRQ, if it's possible to reassign it in either Windows or your BIOS

Serious guru points if you can solve this one!
Windows 7, UFDs and iPod Nano were working fine. Then I cloned the Windows 7 C drive using the Samsung Data Migration tool from an 840 Pro Series 2.5-Inch 256 GB SATA 6GB/s Solid State Drive MZ-7PD256BW to an 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM). Running Windows 7 on the new cloned 850 I can't use any type of USB storage, including different brands of UFDs, or my iPod Nano. Device status for each of these says: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" Other USB devices such as mice, keyboards, and Bluetooth adapters work fine.
I've tried everything I can find on the Internet, including the following:
Restarted the computer, maybe 50 times.
Tried updating drivers: I get "Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date."
Ran Windows Update several times.
Uninstalled ALL devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers and rebooted.
Tried Microsoft Fixit troubleshooter.
Looked for but was not able to find USB lowerfilter or upperfilter entries in registry editor (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\), there are lowerfilter and upperfilter entries in other areas, including class diskdrives, the lowerfilter is SamsungRapidDiskFltr and upperfilter PartMgr, however I don't think that this is the problem since the Registry on the 840 system has the same entries. Okay let me lay out my probelm and detail everything i have done to try to fix it that has not worked.

Recently i purchased a Asix AX887728 Usb2.0 To Fast ethernet in other terms,
Sabrent NT-USB20 USB 2.0 to RJ45 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Network Adapter

So when i purchased the product i installed it onto my pc and everything worked fine, i used the device for 3 days no issues. Well i went to sleep last night woke up and started my pc. And the device was not recognized and that i had the Error device cannot start (code 10) As well in the device manger there is a yellow exclamation mark beside it So i tried multiple things.

- Reinstalled the drivers to the device/ Failed still got error
- Followed the Microsoft trouble shoot wizard/ Epic fail
- Took it as far as reinstalling a fresh copy of xp just recently, updated all my drivers and everything to date. Still got the DAMN error.

Im to the point to thinking this hunk of plastic was made to piss me off.

This is a display and image of the device i am talking about that has the code 10 error

So now im clueless what to do i know it can't be the hardware i mean i have not even touched it hardly since i plugged it in, and my pc is virus free and runs like new, Although i do remember a blue led light coming on and now it wont come on when i plug it into usb, i dont know if it has to function properly for the lead to come on or what.

XP Pro - Code 10, This device cannot start
The printer and floppy disk drive attached to my Compaq desktop, running Windows XP Pro, don't function.

When I look at "Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager", both Com port 2 and the floppy disk controller are marked with the yellow "problem" signs and the properties tab shows "this device cannot start (Code 10)". The printer is not installed on Com2 by the way, it's installed on LPT1.

For a while I could solve the problem temporarily by manually changing the Com2 IRQ setting, but now not even that works. The problem started when I installed SP2. Can anyone help?

Answer:XP Pro - Code 10, This device cannot start

Have you remove the problem devices from the Device Manager and then rebooted? Also, anything plugged into the USB's?

EDIT: Make sure all your drivers are up to date and compatable with SP-2 including your sound drivers. I think your problem may be related to an improper sound driver. Common with Compaq. Check HP's site for your model Compaq and download all the driver updates it has listed.

Please tell me if this is not the right sub-forum.

I've been encountering error Code 43.
I've tried a lot and I am running out of options.

I'm working on an Acer Aspire 5542G.
My operating system is Windows 7.
The USB device not being recognized is my Wacom Intuos 4 PTK.

- I've de-installed and re-installed my tablet driver.
- I've shut down and turned on the laptop.
- I've returned the laptop to original factory settings.
- I've taken the battery out, and put it back in again.
- I've de-installed and re-installed universal serial bus controllers.
- I've used CCleaner to clear up my register.
- I've used my google-fu to it's full extent, but I haven't found a fix.

If someone could help me, that would be great.

Previous thread about this problem.

Edit; I ran two scan programs. They both told me I had 48 errors in my registry, in COM/Active X, in Shared DLL entry and in Path File Reference.
I have no clue if this is at all accurate, because they looked just too similar and they both required me to buy it before it'd fix the errors.
I googled them later and I have not found one site on wich someone said they worked. . .
But, just throwing this out there. It might help.

So a few months ago I replaced my wireless card and started having problems with my bluetooth drivers randomly just shutting off and not working.a I tried back in January to get help on the forums for the problem but I didn't really get any answers. This is my new wireless card. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth.html At least once a day I get "Code 10" Device power failure. The only way to correct this is to either use the intel driver tool to repair the driver or restart my computer. There is also random time intervals between it happening. It could be twice in an hour or once in a period of 8 hours.  A fix that I tried that didn't help was I did a repair install of windows because I thought when I swapped out the cards maybe something got corrupted but that has not helped in the slightest.

Namaste,

I'm experiencing a very troublesome BSOD issue that I have been unable to solve on my own, or with the "help" of DELL support. The problem started three days ago, and has afflicted my computer an average of four or five times a day ever since. The name of the error is BUG CODE USB (minidump file included), which has led me to believe that it is related to a strange issue that popped up a few days prior to my first blue screen: a taskbar warning that the connected USB device was not installed correctly. The real mystery, of course, is that I don't have any USB devices connected when this warning pops up, and USB devices work fine in any of the notebook's USB ports.

I am running a 32-bit OEM version of Windows 7, Service Pack 1 on a DELL Vostro 3400, 2.4 GHz, 4GB RAM

DELL Diagnostics, System Scan, and System Health Check come up fine.

I have recently updated my video card driver, though the problem did not start until several days later. No other changes have recently been made to the system. I am in Kathmandu for another month and will not be able to reload my computer, but it is my lifeline for work, friends, and family, so any help you all can offer would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Rae-Rae Johnson

There's just not enough info here for a full diagnosis.
The System Health Report states that Windows Update is disabled. Please enable automatic updates and then visit Windows Update and get any available updates.

Also, visit the Dell support website and get updates for ALL of your drivers (many are from 2009).

FYI - I've seen one other similar issue with USB lately - and I have to wonder about malware (because the debugger can't locate symbols for the USB drivers usbhub.sys and usbport.sys). Please try some of these free scans:

Hey Everyone,

I was playing world of warcraft 4 days ago and all of a sudden my computer froze. I had a hard time logging on my computer for a couple of days. My computer would consistently freeze at the desktop. Wallpaper, and Icon would show and i'll be able to move my cursor but It woud just freeze and I wont be able to click anything, I was only able to log on in Safe mode and was able to fix the problem. I have a Logitech Wireless Mouse M325. USB dongle. I plugged it in and got a "device malfunctioned" error. I went to the Logitech website and downladed their 64-bit "SetPoint" software and ran it.  At first the mouse worked. But after about 10 minutes, Windows gave a message that the "device malfunctioned" and unmounted it.  When I look in the Device Manager, it shows it as Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) and if I look at the driver details it shows it as being attached to a Microsoft driver.  Now that I've run the Logitech install software, is there a way of manually assigning the correct driver?  Thanks.

Answer:Unknown Device (Code 43)

Did a Logitech folder install on the hard drive? It likely contains the mouse driver but frankly it should work fine as a standard mouse using the generic Microsoft driver. The Logitech software just enables advanced features like side to side scrolling. Do you have any issues with any other usb devices? If not I am suspecting there is a problem with the mouse itself.

XP Home, SP2.
Intro to the problem:
I work as a pc technician and the machine with the problem came in from a client. Apparently one day the network just stopped working. The technician that went on site took a space NIC with her. After failing to get the on-board NIC going she went into BIOS and disabled on-board LAN, then shut down and installed the PCI card. Booted to windows and installed the NIC using the driver cd that comes with it. The installation failed, with windows saying that there was some error during hardware installation and your hardware may not be working correctly. Going to device manager and getting properties on the card gets the title of this post. She brought the machine back and now I'm working on it.

I have enabled on-board LAN again and booted up, XP then has TWO network cards that cannot start, both code 10. I have with me the latest drivers for both network cards, but neither will detect the correct driver when I manually select the folder containing the driver. It says that it cannot find a better match than the currently installed driver. Having it search for a driver automatically also finds nothing. I have booted to safe mode and checked for old NICs that aren't removed, there are none. I have removed both NICs and restarted, they are both picked up again and then immediately sit with an exclamation mark. I then connected a USB NIC and installed it, that worked fine. I set up our network settings and ran windows update on the pc, it did n... Read more

Answer:This device cannot start. (Code 10)

this might seem too simple, but try a different pci card. delete the 1st. try a different slot.
disable the on board again and try installing the drivers before you install the card. also do a cmos clear...i am sure you realize that some have to be "enabled" in the device manager..good luck

This article lists error codes that may be reported by Device Manager, and provides possible resolutions. To view error codes, follow these steps: Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. In Control Panel, double-click System. Click the Device Manager tab. Double-click a device type (for example, double-click Mouse) to see the devices in that category. Double-click a device to view its properties. If an error code has been generated, the code appears in the Device Status box on the General tab. In some cases, there is a Solution button (Windows 98 only). Hello:
I came across this forum by doing a google search for "this device cannot start".
I have a HP Pavilion dv9200...the other day the DVD/cd drive quite working.
In device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to the drive & when I go the properties for that drive it says "this device cannot start (code 10)"...also when I click "check for solution", it says "could not load driver software".
Checking for new driver doesn't work as it comes back & tells me I already have the best one.
It seems that there are LOTS of people out there with this problem. SOme seem to be having luck editing there registry. OK....I'm afraid to do that, but I may if it is the only solution.
Does anyone here have any advice? What about the new Service Pack for Vista available from Microsoft?
Thanks in advance....this is a new computer & I NEED my DVD drive

I have a NVIDIA GeForceMX4 4000 graphics card and I can't seem to resolve my error status 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'. I have checked the BIOS to assess if the irq is set at AGP, taken out the graphics card checked the connections and clean them. Not the problem, I have the feeling the card is now ready for replacing. But if there is a problem I am not aware of and you might know of buying a new one would be money chucked down the drian. I have the feeling this could have been the problem why Mandriva played up and I had problems. I deleted Mandriva in the end due to having to many problems. I was saddened as I enjoyed the freedom of not having to load up all that security that I have to use with Windows

So I am hoping there is an answer and if I have to change my graphics card which is AGP X4 would also be grateful

Thanks

Tony

Hello,
I am running under Window XP and the graphic card start to fail. I ran superantispyware and detected Antrology.exe as threat and deleted it. All looked good but after rebooting the graphic didn't work at all.

In the device manager shows the device cannot start code 10.
I updated the driver
Unistalled and Installed again
... and nothing

Restore to a before date... nothing

Then I notice another error: an unknown device with device instnace id:
ROOT\LEGACY_NPF\000

The graphic card is NVIDIA GEFORCE 8400 GS

so I wonder if the device is dead or if it is possible that a virus or the aftermath of a virus is creating the problem.

Any help I will appreciate it

Thank you

vv

Well since you suspect a virus and you have found one ' I cannot find any information about that virus or it's effects check your spelling' I would suggest you fully follow the malware read and run in the malware forum and then move onto the windows XP cleaning procedure.

Uninstall the driver in control panel, restart your computer.

Download and install this driver,it's the driver you should have installed so check this version with the driver you've previously tried to install, even if they match download and install it anyway.
