I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

ok...so, i'm forced to use this onscreen keyboard, because my keyboard suddenly stopped working . tried switching it with another one i know works, and had the same problem with it, so, that rules out the keyboard it's self as having the issue. tried a sys restore...same prob. tried reinstalling windows, still have the problem. i have a driver for my texas instruments usb ports that is reading not successfully installed but i can't seem to find the driver 4 it anywhere, because they claim win 7 installs it automatically...but it obviously didn't. i have tried switching usb ports, tried pulling out the usb to the keyboard restarting, then plugging back in, and still have this issue. can anyone please help? ps: not getting error messages, and the keyboard claims "this device is working properly"

Hello, Are any lights visible on the keyboard? If so, and your keyboard is not working, Try adjusting the connector for your keyboard and check the wiring, especially, if your connecting wire is in a stressed position.( i.e. bend
or crooked)

Machine is three months old - IdeaCentre S40-40, Windows 8.1, completely updated, very few programs installed. The touchscreen worked until now in every program the way it was suppose to. But then the clicking stopped working. So, only when you click, it doesn't respond. You can see on Desktop when you press on the screen, that the gray circle is responding to the amount of pressure on the screen. In IE for example, the scrolling works, resizing (with two fingers) works, but again clicking doesn't. If I open onscreen keyboard, the keyboard works - you can actually click on the keys and it does respond. Anywhere else in Windows, it doesn't. Since I can see some responses from the touch, I don't believe that it is a hardware problem. I've removed HID-touch in Device manager and restarted. Same result.I've disabled touch screen/onscreen keyboard service - same result.I've reinstalled the keyboard/mouse driver from Lenovo site - same result.I've tryed calibrating the screen, but I can't since it doesn't respond even to the first click on the cross. Any ideas anyone?

Answer:AiO S40 - Touchscreen working only on onscreen keyboard

Hi angelski ,

Greetings.

Good that you have isolated possible points of failure.
You may also want to try isolating it further doing a clean boot and even disabling your antivirus to check.

To further rule out software affectation , last step is always a factory restore (one key recovery via F2 on restart  page 24 ) , System recovery thru initial back up would restore it back from out of the box settings.

This would however delete everything on the pc (back up recommended) , but would give you a fresh start .
If after a factory reset that the same issue happen . call in tech support .

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi Folks,

I'm running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS, service pack 1. Last night I installed the following Windows updates:

KB2920792
KB2952664
KB2920789
KB3004394
KB890830
KB2920790
KB3013126
KB2984942
KB3014406
KB3008923
KB3009736
KB2920793
KB3006121
KB3006625
KB2596927
KB3013410

The issue: When I restarted the system, the onscreen keyboard wouldn't start-up at the log-in screen (also tried to open the OSC at safe-mode log-in, but the same thing happens). In windows explorer, when I tried to open the windows onscreen keyboard, the following message box opened:

C:\Windows\system32\osk.exe, A referral was returned from the server.

Having Google searched this problem, it seems that in the last 24 hours, lots of people have been posting this problem.

I've checked cryptographic services (in both services.msc & task manager) and the service is running!

Will there be a further update to fix this problem?

Kind regards,

Doug.

Answer:Onscreen Keyboard not working after windows update (11th Dec 2014)

KB3004394 has caused this issue among others. Uninstall it and you should get the onscreen keyboard back.

Microsoft has pulled this update from Windows update as well. I expect that it will be reissued when the problems are fixed.

I have an emachine that is a few years old that my high school daughter uses. Today when she was typing a paper for school it got stuck on all caps, then it just quit working all together. I took the keyboard and put it on my computer and it works fine. My keyboard doesn't work on her computer either. I restarted which didn't help. I also retored the computer to yesterday's back up. That didn't work either. This computer does have some age on it but I was hoping to get it to last her until she gets that college laptop. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vista 64 Keyboard problem Can't figure this one out. The keyboard simply stopped working one day in my Vista 64 "archive/experiment" machine. Not the keyboard or CMOS. I also have XP and Windows 7 64 on separate disks on this machine, and they all work fine with any variation of keyboards/drivers.

Keyboard works until the VISTA 64 logon screen comes up. After Log in using the on-screen KB, device manager shows drivers for the keyboard are "Error 39" in device driver. Same error condition in Safe Mode; tried installing fresh drivers, NIL. Tried installing USB keyboard, NIL. All variations work with both XP and Windows 7 64. Has to be within this install of Vista 64. Last changes prior to failure were series of Windows and Office updates. Have unistalled them (except for SP for Office), still same problem.

This is the first problem I've ever encountered that has me stymied. Short of doing a reinstall of VISTA 64, haven't found a way around this. I've looked but can't find any conflicts in either drivers nor registry entries. Has to be some unrelated SW that stops this driver. Pretty clean system, Office 2007 w/SP's, Nero Ultra 8 (9 is awful), Roxio 2009. I've reinstalled the gateway drivers, MS drivers, etc. NIL. I've unistalled NERO since the v9.0 was an abomination. Deleted the KB drivers in both SYSTEM32 and in WOW64 folders, installed clean copies. NIL. System is Gateway FX530, QUAD, 8800GTX, 8GB memory, 3 SATA drives, each with own OS.

You might see if doing a System Restore using a restore point dated when you knew the KB was working may fix it for you.

Hope this helps,

My systems' data is below.
My problem: My Keyboard's Numeric Pad quit working. I doubt the connection, but some time ago I installed IE 8. It seemed to give problems unknown with IE 7. It was on your program, I believe, that the advice was given to uninstall IE 8 and re-install IE 7, which I did. Unless I'm not remembering well, the number pad worked okay for both versions. Is there something to fix this within my system? Has the Keyboard gone bad? (All the other keyboard function seem n okay. Got a solution?

My keyboard quit working. Touch any letter & I hear a click. Every key, click. But the letters don't show up.

Luckily, I can use the onscreen keyboard but man, is it slow. When I click on a letter on the onscreen keyboard, I still hear the click but the letter does show up.

I have a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series laptop. I've been having a little trouble with the keyboard for about a month. About once in a sentence when I type a letter, it doesn't type. i.e. keybord. Type it again, it shows up. This occurs with all letters. About once in a sentence, a letter I type will show up twice. i.e. twiice. Sometimes the space button doesn't work. i.e. Sometimesthespacebuttondoesn't work.

Any ideas of what can I try to fix this.

Thank you,
dumdum

Answer:Keyboard And Mouse Quit Working

Was there any other problems happening before? I wouldn't think that you keyboard and mouse ports are faulty because it isn't likely that both keyboard and mouse ports fail at the same time.

I would be able to help if you can give some more information.

Aspire R14(R3-471T). Purchased about a month and a half ago, and been working fine until this morning when the physical keyboard quit responding. I have typing sounds enabled, and the computer does produce a click when I press any key on the board, but aside from that there's no response. No text appears on screen, I can't tab between fields or apps, or otherwise use the physical keyboard to do anything at all.  The touchpad and on-screen keyboard are fine, and Device Mangler says my kb driver is up to date. Anybody else experience this, or have any insights? Also not sure if my next step should be Acer support or the retailer (Costco). Thoughts?

Yoga 14 20FY is the Best Buy edition. Running Windows 10 Home 64-bit.

I looked around and did not see mention of this particular issue.

Not exactly sure what triggered this, but it seems like a Windows update may be the culprit. My laptop keyboard has completely stopped working. The trackpoint and trackpad work fine. External keyboard works fine. I have done the System update numerous times and don't see any outstanding updates at all.

Have tried to disable the PS2 keyboard driver. It goes ahead and installs a Microsoft driver (dated some time in 2006) for this. Have the Bios updated to the most recent and then installed HotKey drivers - in fact, every update listed (whether critical, recommended or optional).

Is there anything else left for me to try before I try to open up the case? Thanks for anything that has helped anybody else with this issue.

Click "Windows key" + "R" keys and click Ok to open "Run" window.2. In the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and click OK.3. In the "Device Manager" window that comes up, navigate to "Keyboards" and expand the tree. Click on your keyboard model and properties window will come up.4. KEYBOARD QUIT WORKING not immediately after win 10 upgrade from 8, but after some time. This is a relatively recent problem. I went and bought a replacement keyboard thinking mine haid broken somehow. The brand new replacement part does not function either. I am speculating that an automatic update may have caused this problem. The computer may have went into hibernation before but has been rebooted since. I do not know if the hibernation causes a permanent keyboard problem I just heard it may cause one. I attempted hard reset to no avail The TOUCHPAD STILL WORKS. G6 model g6-1d67cl / PN: A6Y42UA I am now forced to use a wireless external keyboard but would prefer a solution to the problem other than the on screen keyboard.

The keyboard  has a delay issue. When I leave the sound effects on (despite having chosen "no sounds " as my preference more times than I can recall) .I've had to learn how to restore the audio playback even more often than the "prefrences, but it's  still hanging on for the moment .     I have to keep the key depressed long enough to hear 2 clicks before it registers the choice onscreen. This is so cumbersome that I've been forced to use the onscreen keyboard - better than nothing, but not by a lot. Yesterday two keyboard shortcuts that I use constantly quit working - Alt+Tab to switch between windows and Control+Click to open a link in a new tab in Internet Explorer. The only change was the download and installation of Turbotax Home & Business - in fact, the first I noticed the problem was while the installation was taking place. I searched the Internet and found one older post on this site that addressed the Alt+Tab problem, but I did not see a resolution. I checked my Registry and the "coolswitch" settings are where they should be. I called Turbotax, but they were of NO help. Not positive it is related to that installation, but very suspicious. Hope I am in the correct forum for this. Laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 that I rebuilt. It has always worked even better than my husband's new laptop. I am pretty sure this is a virus/trojan, not a hardware issue, but could be wrong why I am on here. I was typing the other night & it all of a sudden started typing letters I was not typing & the lights on front of laptop started flashing. I stopped immediately booted into safe mode & ran superantispyware & went to bed. Next morning, it said nothing found. so then I ran malwarebytes, nothing found & avast scan, nothing found. Then the keyboard quit working all together, but touchpad still works. I hooked up a usb keyboard & it works fine. When I restart computer it gets stuck on the windows 7 boot menu & will go no further until I hit enter, never had to do that before. Also a few times firefox would only run in it's safe mode, now it's like normal but takes forever to open the first window. Went back into safe mode, ran microsoft security scan. Found 1 item, deleted that. Still doing the same thing. I dont think it's the keyboard, because I installed a new one about 6 months ago & too many other strange things happening all at once. Someone please help! I am about to pull my hair out with this one!

Answer:Dell laptop stops at windows7 boot menu/ keyboard quit working

update: ran malwarebytes in safe mode again. restarted it & goes to the screen that has windows7/vista/server & others like that (debug- default mode) etc. keeps highlighting each one really fast over & over again like holding down the arrow button. wont do anything unless I click 'b' to boot. then starts like normal. still no keyboard.

My mouse has been working fine for a while but it stopped working followed by the keyboard, I put it down to a Windows update but because Windows 7 keeps bluescreening on a restore point I couldn't recover.  I contacted Lenovo got the rebuild disc for my machine, completely rebuilt it, all working fine, then after 2 days same issue, mouse stopped, keyboard stopped, restore points make no difference.  Does anyone know what windows update is causing this and if there is a fix aside from rebuilding, I can't keep doing this and I need to understand the cause really, not had it with a laptop before.  Gone back to using my old laptop until I can get it sorted.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:T510 Mouse and Keyboard stops working with Windows Update - unable to roll back, happened twice

This shouldn't happen as far as I know... Make sure all of your drivers are up-to-date before running Windows Update? Maybe some hotfix conflicts with one of the earlier drivers found on the restore discs... Not sure. Maybe avoid installing Windows Updates after restoring? Also, make sure you don't have a virus on one of your external drives. Maybe a virus is infecting your computer repeatedly.

What is the installed operatiing system? You have me at a disadvantage while trying to help you since I don't know the installed operating system. As a temporary workaround, plug in a usb mouse.   You will need to mouse to enter the control panel and enable the touchpad again. There is no disable\enable of touchpad in the BIOS. Were you in the Device Manager when you disabled the touchpad? That is another place where it can be enabled and disabled. For Windows 10Enable or Disable Onscreen Keyboard using SettingsSelect ?Start? > ?Settings?.Choose ?Ease of Access?.Select ?Keyboard?.Set ?On-Screen Keyboard? to ?On? or ?Off? as desired.

Answer:onscreen keyboard in xp missing

Hi

installed a modifided performance version of xpClick to expand...

Herein lies the potential problem, installing a modified version and one thats been edited to remove many components to make it slimmer install size, is likely to have removed Accesability options as one of the first items to go.

Try seeing if its still available, by clicking Start > Run and type accwiz and hit enter.

Also goto Add/Remove and Add/Remove Windows Components > when the list appears click Acessories and Untilites and Acessability Wizard if available.

If its not available then options are re-install the proper full version of XP Retail or could try this http://cnt.lakefolks.com/ not tested myself.

Go to the Control Panel. Search for "Keyboard". Turning the On-Screen keyboard on/off is one of the first results. If you search for "on-screen keyboard" it's the ONLY result.

You'd think people could at least try the obvious things before posting to a forum for help.

One of my system32 files has recently become corrupt and has disabled my keyboard and to fix the file I have to boot from the XP cd and replace the file but I cant do that because it asks you to press any key to boot from the cd. Is there an onscreen keyboard that I can use from the moment I turn on my PC? Thanks.

Answer:Onscreen keyboard from startup?

"press any key to boot from the cd" is a pre-windows requisite loading function, I'll doubt very much you'll find a 'program' that can do that.

I take it you tried replacing the keyboard?

My physical print screen has stopped working (the keyboard's shite, I'll have to get a new one), but if I use the one on the onscreen keyboard, it works fine. Problem is, the image of the onscreen keyboard gets copied too. Is there a way to stop this? I'm on Windows 8.1

Just use the Snipping Tool to capture the screen. Type Snipping Tool into search if you can't find it.

Hi there. I am trying to figure out how to use the onscreen keyboard. There are a lot of articles that just explain how to start it, but not how to use it.
I know how to access it. And it works when I enter letters in the search box of my browser. However, that's all it does. When I use it with a word processor, the keys do not respond. Strange. Also, when i click on alt+(number) on the numeric pad (which works perfect on a regular keyboard), it does not work at all. Don't get me wrong: it's not that I want to type a whole document with it. It should work, but it does not. I am stumped! Does anyone have an answer? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi. I use the windows 7 osk a lot to enter passwords. I have the icon pinned to my taskbar, and normally the way I use it is I click on the icon in the taskbar when I want the osk to pop up so that I can use it. When I'm finished with it, I click on the minimize button and it returns to its spot in the status bar and stays there until I click on it again. Now, *normally* when I pass my mouse pointer over the icon, just a thumbnail of the osk will appear. But lately when my mouse pointer simply passes over the icon, the osk will pop up and appear on my screen in full size, and I need to minimize it to put it back onto the taskbar. This is very inconvenient because every time I bring my mouse pointer down to the status bar to choose an icon, I inadvertently pass over the osk icon with my mouse pointer which causes it to pop up. I was fiddling with the osk's options yesterday, which must be the reason, but I can't find any way to reverse the problem.

Anyone's help would be appreciated.

Hello Jonk,

It sounds like you may have enabled the Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse feature. You might check using OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to see if that box is unchecked to not have this enabled.

However, the online keyboard is still opening & I don't need it. Is there possibly a method to use the keyboard keys to disable it on my Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro Ultrabook? Or is there something else I need to do? Thanks for all suggestions.

Couldn't find anything on this in my search - but my onscreen keyboard pops up when i touch the screen (in regular notepad mode when I'm using the physical keyboard).  It seems to happen only for certain textboxes on certain pages.   One place for sure when this always happens is GMail when I hit the compose button.  When I touch anywhere in the compose box the onscreen keyboard pops up. This is completely annoying and I don't know how to make it stop. Is there anyway to completely disable the onscreen keyboard in notepad mode?  I would only need it in tablet or other modes. Cheers

Hello,

Is there a way to automatically load the onscreen keyboard on the logon screen?

Thanks!

Michael

Answer:Onscreen Keyboard on Logon Screen

Try this.

1. Go to All Programs > Accessories > Ease of access > right click on OnScreen keyboard > SendTo Desktop. That gives you a shortcut on the desktop.
2. Start > type shell:startup > hit Enter. Now drag the shortcut from 1. into the startup folder. Close the folder.

Theoretically the OnScreen keyboard should be started when you load Win7. Have not tried it yet with the keyboard, but with many other applications that always worked.

PS: just tried it out. It works.

Hi Ollie!

METHOD 1

Try holding the Windows Key then pressing R. In the Run windows copy and paste this (Without The Quotes) "%windir%\system32\osk.exe"

Method 2

Or if you want that on your desktop:

1. Right-Click on an empty area of the desktop.
2. Go to New and select Shortcut.
3. Copy and paste "%windir%\system32\osk.exe" into the box, WITHOUT THE QUATATION MARKS!
4. Call it On-Screen Keyboard, or whatever you want (it doesn't matter)
5. Click Finish

There should now be an On-Screen Keyboard Icon on your desktop.

Thanks,

I had a Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet. When I brought up Google, and clicked the inbox, the onscreen keyboard would appear at the bottom of the screen, and the Google page would change so that the inbox was visible above the keyboard. I'm talking about landscape mode.

I have a new Lenovo tablet, and when I click on the Google inbox, the onscreen keyboard comes up, but the Google page does not change, so the keyboard covers the inbox.

There has to be a setting somewhere (Windows, Google, Browser?) that will make it work again (showing the inbox above the keyboard), but I have no idea where.

Does anyone know?

Answer:Yoga 13: How to make onscreen keyboard come on automatically...

It annoys me too... notice the initial Lenovo password screen brings up keyboard as needed, then goes away when hitting enter. Another annoyance is when you tap existing text windows tries to go to an edge of a word rather than in middle, and if you repeatedly try it gets stuck assuming you want to highlight a long string. Windows needs to assume you have an inaccurate finger which needs multiple tries, and maybe confirmation before doing something drastic.

shack1968 wrote:

This is an issue with Word, rather than the Yoga 900, I think. I'm seeing the same thing on a Surface 3 when in tablet mode. You have two options to work around this shortcoming:

a) Turn off the "Tablet mode" setting to display the keyboard icon on the Taskbar. Touching that will bring up the on-screen keyboard. Your physical keyboard should still be disabled when the Yoga 900 is folded into the tablet configuration.

b) Use Word Mobile instead of the full Word. It doesn't have the full functionality, but at least it will bring up the on-screen keyboard automatically when in Tablet mode.

Something suddenly changed for me making it hard to initially bring up onscreen keyboard for the bootup password screen. It doesn't appear a windows update is related to that, although it came right after I installed the new lenovo wifi/bt driver fix today. You can try sliding the window or batting the pw field to no avail. It always might do this once per month or so, but now it is much ofl the hair-pulling time. It tends to come after shutting completely down in laptop mode, then booting up in tablet. Earlier you could pop it in and out of sleep to recover the onscreen lenovo keyboard. But not now, and it happens much more often and it really frustrating. Even a reboot doesn't always help. A workaround it to hit one of the two icons on the bootup security screen that starts talking to you. There is an onscreen keyboard option you can hit. Of course it is absurdly small and almost unusable, but you can stretch it and it will remember that state.

In Win7 (using a touchscreen) the onscreen keyboard hid in the left screen margin. If you touched anywhere along the left screen edge it would pop out. The reason I like this feature is because in Firefox I use Fn + F11 and the address bar up top and the dock below disappear. Therefore if I needed the keyboard at anytime all I had to do was touch the left screen edge.
In Win10 I can't seem to find a way to activate the keyboard in the same way. I see the keyboard icon on the bottom right dock but when I use the Fn + F11 option the whole bottom dock disappears, so then I can't access the keyboard icon.
Anyone help me with getting the keyboard touch activated again?
Thanks!

The keyboard and mouse stop working occasionally, but if I force a reboot, (just pushing the power button) the keyboard and mouse work again.

I have another friend who had a dell computer and his keyboard just quit working, he had to buy a usb keyboard to get any connectivity.

Could the mouse and keyboard port on the first friends computer just be "dying"?

Thanks

I recently (w/in last 2 weeks) purchased and received an E545 and after less than 8 hours of use the keyboard is extremely loose on the right hand side, primarily where the number pad sits but also extend into the right side of the alpha keyboard.  By losse, I mean that it doesn't sit well and when you press down on a key in that area of the keyboard, the entire right side of keyboard depresses.  ti's very disconcerting when typing and also extremely loud, which is an issue since I use the machine in meetings to take notes.

I've not seen much in searching, except for threads that are several years old.  I wanted to get some user input before contacting Lenovo, as I'm sure it will be better advice and less of a hassle.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:E545 keyboard problem - many keys not working - loose keyboard cable

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the entire keyboard of your Lenovo ThinkPad E545 depresses on key presses.

From what you have posted, it sounds like a keyboard flex. Keyboard flexing occurs if the board supporting the keys is not rigid or if the design of the keyboard is faulty. For good keyboards, the effect shouldn't be noticeable.

If you feel excessive flexing in your keyboard, try to reseat the keyboard. Since your system is under warranty, I would strongly suggest you to take assistance from Lenovo technical support.

Best Regards,

Hi Members
The cursor quit during using mouse or keyboard.  This had happened every time after 2 minutes approximately. When pressing the Esc / Enter or Click Mouse, now continue the point where is quit.

Appreciate any comments you may have.

Thanks and Regards

Download HiJackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HiJackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose [Do a system scan and save a logfile].
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit [Scan] and then click on [Save log].
3. Post the HiJackThis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HiJackThis since they may be harmless.
