Mac Parallels Windows 8 Pro (genuine activation) upgraded to 10 Pro, activation block

Question: Mac Parallels Windows 8 Pro (genuine activation) upgraded to 10 Pro, activation block

Greetings!

This is relatively new experience for me and I have spent some time Googling for solutions.

A friend of mine upgraded his genuinely activated Windows 8 Pro Parallels virtual machine to Windows 10 Pro. After the upgrade, he finds that his Windows 10 Pro is not activating. When I check, the error 0xC004C003 states that the activation is being blocked.

A common suggestion I have encountered was to install the OS from scratch, but that isn't practical in this situation. I am also aware that with Windows 10 the licensing is based on unique hardware identification, which makes me feel that this might affect virtual machine installations due to the nature of virtualizaiton, but surely Microsoft had thought about this before rolling out Windows 10 with the new licensing scheme (or at least I hope).

Another suggestion I read and tried was "slrmgr.vbs /rearm" --> reboot --> "slrmgr.vbs /ato". I still receive the same error. I also tried "slrmgr.vbs /ipk Windows8KeyHere" but it didn't work. I received an error code "0xc004e016" about the key being invalid.

Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Mac Parallels Windows 8 Pro (genuine activation) upgraded to 10 Pro, activation block

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If he doesn't want to reinstall, call Microsoft's licensing number and complain.

I've had this computer for quite some time, I got everything legit. Yesterday evening it starts telling me that my copy isn't genuine. I've looked through some threads here and I can't find anything similar to my situation.

I had some problems not long ago, and I reinstalled Windows on the same machine with the same key. Up until yesterday, it has worked fine. Today, I've tried using the same key and it gives me the error code 0xC004F063

Answer:Windows Activation says not genuine when it actually is

Hello ToiletNinja,

From your report, you are using the SLP volume license key number instead of the product key number on the COA sticker. See OPTION ONE in the tutorial below, enter that key number instead, and try activating again.

Product Key Number for Windows 7 - Find and See

Hope this helps,

I bought an XP SP3 disk from Microsoft Store. When I installed it, it worked fine. As you may know SP3 does not require any Product Key. However after I installed around 24 updates from Windows Update I re-booted my PC. Now every time I start my PC amessege comes up saying "You may be a victim of Software Counterfite". I know this is because it dosn't pass some Genuine Authentication pass but I know it's legal.Does anybody know what the problem is?

Hi! I appreciate any advice you can give me. My computer is telling me I have to activate the "Genuine Microsoft Windows", and that I need to find a code, or "key" on the back of my windows cd. The problem is, my computer is second hand, and windows xp was already installed on it. I have no way to get ahold of the people I bought it from. Help!
Thanks.

Answer:Genuine Windows activation

Often the Key is on a sticker attached to case of the computer.
If it is not, and you cannot contact the person who sold it to you, you will have to purchase a new copy of the OS.

Background information:

I have an old laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. My laptop had a ton of junk on it. So I decided to do a factory reset and start all over. This was about a month ago.

The sticker on the bottom of the laptop was no longer readable. I used a Key Finder program to grab the Windows key.

I received no Windows installation disc with the laptop. I downloaded the Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit ISO from digitalrivercontent.

I installed Windows. Everything was fine until yesterday. I had shut off my computer so Windows updates would install. I rebooted my laptop and got the following error message:

Error Code 0xC004F063
The software licensing service reported that the computer BIOS is missing a required license.

In the lower right-hand corner of my monitor is the message:
Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine

I searched Google and read the forums to find out how to resolve the issue. I was quite surprised to read on the forum how it is assumed that the Windows software must be an illegal copy or that the user must have entered the wrong key. Those are very bold and erroneous assumptions to make. While it may be true I got my copy of Windows from Microsoft's digitalrivercontent website, I purchased a Windows key when I bought my laptop, I did not receive a Windows installation disc with my laptop, and no one informed me that if I did a factory reset that I would have to buy Windows all over again. I should be able to ... Read more

Answer:Windows Genuine and Activation Issue

Computers that come pre-installed with Windows from large manufacturers usually come with two Product Keys.

OEM SLP: This is the key that came in Windows (from the factory). It works by connecting to a BIOS flag (the SLIC table) found only on computers from that Manufacturer. It also checks for the existence of proper matching licenses in the OS itself. Once it sees both, it self-activates every time the machine is rebooted.

COA SLP: This is the key seen on the sticker located on the side, bottom or in the battery compartment of your machine. This key is for use if the OEM SLP self-activation stops working for whatever reason.

The Key in your report is the OEM_SLP Key - which requires that it be installed using the Recovery media.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Upload the CBS.log file (compressed, please!) to your reply - also post a new MGADiag report.

Answer:Windows genuine and activation problem

Who repaired the laptop?
The SLIC table is missing from the BIOS - which means that the OEM_SLP Key in use cannot self-activate as it should.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

I have a newish computer (OS=Windows XP pro) which had viruses and problems due to blue screening, it stopped working altogether one day..
yesterday I had installed and formatted Windows home edition on it..
then it asked for a product key which i didnt have, i had asked about the product key some other place on the web which they had linked me somewhere for one, i wasnt sure.. but i took the code down
it worked and i logged in with my fixed computer, it had a popup saying it needed activating within 30 days and i couldnt get on the web either.
this is beginning to get pretty stressful as when it was working before it was genuine and i have no code nor a sticker to be located on the computer..
any ideas? :(

Hei!

Recently bought a new laptop, with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Everything was fine and dandy, until about 2-3 days ago. Suddenly, after booting, screen went black:

Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine.

Some "things" i tried:

- CHKDISK c: /r : no errors reported
- sfc /scannow : no errors reported
- since i was browsing the forums/net, some users suggested deleting the KB971033 update, so i did, reboot : no change
- checked for the Software Protection Service, apperantly, its not running, nor can i start it: "Error 5: Access is denied." (<- actually, i think this might actually be the problem...)
- system restore to the date, at which it was suppossedly genuine : no change
- maybe a few more things, that i seriously cant remember, since i was browsing for solutions the last 2 or so days... if you mention them, im sure ill remember
- some posts suggest, that registry fixing tools might make a mess... i am pretty sure, that running CCleaner with default settings should cause no issues... now, i still might be mistaken, i dunno... sadly, after my last "cleaning", i did no registry backup, the hell knows why... -_-'

As for MGA Diagnostic Tool (i dont even know if i copied the right parts/things whatever , never used this before...):

Answer:Windows is not genuine. Activation: Unavailable.

First off - you have a counterfeit install of Office Pro Plus 2007 installed - based on a blocked Volume License Key.

As to your Windows installation -

Please run the following commands, and post the results.

REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\spldr /S
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SPLDR /S
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SLSVC
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\Legacy_SPPSVC

They may show something

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories ? then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight ? select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left ? select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Answer:Windows non-genuine and activation issue

The installation is showing signs of having been hacked by installation of RemoveWAT.

Download WATFix - make sure that you UNTICK the box for the 'download manager, and click on the link on the left of the page, not the big shiny button on the right (which is an ad for the download manager!!) - and use that - extraxt the .exe file, and run it, then reboot.

Post back with another MGADiag report, and we'll then see what we can do.

I have a MSDNAA account where I downloaded my copy of Windows 7 Pro, so its genuine, but when my computer is idle for sometime, in the lower right corner of the screen, sometimes appears the "not genuine" text with "evaluation copy etc etc". I go to Control Panel - System, then windows activates itself again, turning genuine again. This happened two times, yesterday and today. Is this a bug or what?

Answer:Windows 7 pro activation - genuine / not genuine

To help us troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing, please download and run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool. Once you run the tool, click on the Continue button, then click on the Copy button and paste the report into your post. Thank you!Carey Frisch

I upgraded a Pavilion P6 to W10 Pro in September. All was fine until the motherboard and processor failed. When I replaced the hardware I am asked to activate Windows -- I have the product key from the desktop box for Windows 7 Home Prem OA which isn't working for W10 Pro. I don't know how W10 Pro had been running six months and MS support insists that I roll back to W10. Two questions.1. how does W10 differ from W10 Pro?2. how is that W10 Pro could have been upgraded from Windows 7 Home Prem OA? Seems like a bait and switch on the OS.

Answer:Upgraded Windows 10 Pro activation after replacing processor...

Greetings, The motherboard/CPU replacement could be an additional monkey wrench in this situation. You can't use a Win 7 Home key on Win 10 Pro. You will have to install Win 10 and then upgrade to Win 10 Pro. Win 10 will upgrade to Win 10 P if you had an activated copy of Win 10 Pro. 1. Additional features such as BitLocker and domain join. 2. I have no idea how you upgraded from Win 7 Home to Win 10 Pro. Were you a BETA tester (Windows Insider Program)? I upgraded from Win 7 H to Win 10 Pro because I was a BETA tester, I just did a clean install of Win 10 Pro but skipped the product key input. Windows activated, but not immediately. The Beatles: "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey" Cheers

Beginning last week, every few hours a pop-up window notifies me that my version of Windows may not be genuine. My computer is a few years old and has been running a genuine version of windows the entire time. When I check my computer properties it states my windows is genuine and active. Potentially related ancillary information:

- I recently installed a new hard drive after a hard drive crash (~ 2 months ago).
- My windows update has been disabled and I haven't been able to enable it the past week, possibly separate issue, but concerns me.
- No threats detected by anti-virus, malware protection, etc.

Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool report below. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Best,
Jim

Answer:Recent false Genuine Windows Activation Notice

With luck this could be fairly simple to fix...
Open an ELevated Command Prompt, and run the following command...

REGSVR32 WINTRUST.DLL

You should get a popup saying 'succeeded' - reboot and run another MGADiag report, and post that.

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

CHKDSK C: /R

Activation doesn't work when upgraded from windows 7 sp1 retail--Windows 10 home preview build 10162

I reported the issue to Microsoft but that could create a problem when rtm is released for those that quit the program on the release date. It looks like a lot of people will be making phone calls to activate windows. I tried changing keys, it didn't work. I even tried my windows seven retail key it wouldn't take it.

When I upgraded from retail to windows 10 according to Belarc Advisor (Key:None Activated)
I thought windows 7 retail key take priority over windows 7 Oem_slp key. I guess I could do the reverse and see what happens.

Hi. I bought Windows 7 64bit home edition on a disk with my new Novatech pc over a year ago, and it successfully activated. Until 30 days ago it ran fine. Then the Windows not genuine pop got going with a link for activating online. I used slmgr /dlv which showed that the computer thinks my Windows is in its 'grace period', on a countdown from 30 days to 0 (tomorrow!).

Any suggestion, anyone? Here's what did NOT work:

Online activation (nothing happens)

Phone activation

Microsoft support - phoned them.
They talked me through a few things that did not work, then gave up.

slui.exe, scannow, chkdsk

Here is the diagnostics file:

Hello, everybody. I've had a rather rough time, lately, with my computer. For whatever reason, I could not update my computer via Windows Update. I constantly had errors. I could not figure out why nothing was downloading, and I found no solutions to the problem. Fast-Forward to about 5 days ago, and I encountered another, more annoying issue. I started to receive a pop-up notification letting me know that my version of Windows 7 (Home Premium, 64 Bit) was Not Genuine. I wondered... how could this be? I've had my computer for just over 2 years, with Windows 7 coming pre-installed. So I checked online on sites like this one, and I found a couple different solutions. One was to try to re-input the key. That did not work. Windows 7 was appearing as 'Activated', prior, but the issue of the "Non-Genuine" pop-up had risen.
From searching up the error code, I came across this suggestion:

HTML Code:
Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc

Answer:My Genuine activation issue although I have a genuine license

Interesting.
The error message
Notification Reason: 0xC004F063.
...is a pretty specific one, and almost always means that the machine has been reinstalled using media other than the manufacturer's Recovery media, while still using the manufacturer's OEM_SLP Key instead of the COA Key.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed - according to the COA sticker on the case (or inside the battery compartment)

hi all

is SLP loader functions the same as windows activator?

i'm using Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as my OS. currently, it's already prompting and i have 27-days left for activation

this all happened when i initiate System Recovery using the same CD installer i used to setup the same computer almost 3-years ago. i did so as it hung-up and i can't managed even to go into Safe Mode, as well, the so called Last Known Good Configuration but still to no avail

i used the same CD Key i used initially before but it won't accept or recognized it where it states that if my CD Key was right and still not updating then i should telephone Microsoft

wow!

can i do that when i'm not in the continental USA much more these computer was registered not under my name since it's only a hand-me-down or surplus which is beneficial to me

so i'm looking for SLP loader or windows activator (if it function the same way) intended for Win Server 2003 Standard Edition as it may resolve my issue

hope it's okay to inquire and that if it's not advisable to reply post in here, i welcome it through PM

Answer:windows activation (27-days left for activation)

If it's a valid key, you should have no problem calling MS to re-activate Windows.

It should give you an option to pick which country you're from on the activation window, and then a number to call.

I have just rebooted my PC after downloading and installing the latest security updates - there were 3 in total.A Windows Defender update, an update for IE7 and the Malicious software removal tool. When I rebooted I got a message saying that due to the large number of hardware changes, I need to activate my copy of Windows. The only recent hardware change was a few days ago when I changed from a Billion router to a SpeedTouch 585 wireless router after reading that it works better on long lines like mine. The activation failed saying that I have installed XP on more than one PC which isn't true!A similar thing happened before when I had to ring a Microsoft customer service rep and she gave me a product key which I successfully entered over the phone.Does anyone know what number this was?I think it was a freephone number.I would ring the 0870 number (despite the cost) but according to the message contact hours are between 9am and 5pm monday to friday and I would like to get this issue sorted out NOW otherwise my O/S might stop working all together :(I think Microsoft's anti-piracy stance is being a little OTT as this is the THIRD time I have had to activate it.The first time was expected as it was the day I installed XP and then there was the second time where I had to ring a Microsoft rep but now I have to do the same and it's rather annoying.Any advice on what to do please?By the way my copy of XP Home *is* legit as I still have the original CD and packaging, product key and eve... Answer:my genuine or activation issue

The installation is counterfeit.
You have an AXIOO motherboard - but the Product Key is from an ACER computer.

As far as I can tell, AXIOO computers are designed and built as vehicles for Starter Edition, and not Ultimate.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

Answer:My genuine or activation issue

Interesting report, that.
A SLIC table is present - but MGADiag reports teh Windows marker as missing, rather than damaged. The table is also reporting the wrong SLIC version.
The installation is counterfeit.

You need to reformat and reinstall using legitimate media and a legitimate Key

Answer:My genuine or activation issue

You have an OEM_SLP Key from a Dell machine installed onto a retail motherboard - this can never be legally activated.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

My first question is, where did you get your copy of windows7 from? Your report shows you are running windows 7 ultimate OEM, but microsoft has never released the Ultimate version as an OEM product. Did you purchase this from ebay per chance??

What is the issue you're having?

Greetings. We have Thinkpads T420s with LAN, Wifi and WAN interface.I've already put in a script when connecting to the LAN that disables the Wifi and the WAN interface. However the user is still able to activate the Wifi when connecting to the LAN, which is not wanted. As we work in a corporate network with Windows AD + GPO, we do not want a laptop to connect to two networks at the same time. We are using Thinkpad Connection Manager version 5 and I just tested the 6.There is no option that only one network connection is allowed in that application. So does anyone have a solution to just allow ONE network connection at any time?? Thanks.Guy

Answer:block activation of a second network connection

I believe there may be something in Power Manager that will and may still be in current versions. When I got my ThinkPad I couldn't enable both at one time. In my case with WiFi on attempting to connect to a router if I plugged the patch cable in the WiFi was turned off. This was out of the box. I needed both working since I could not log into my router for some inexplicable reason. After some time I figured it out but took a while for the grey matter to venture down the road less traveled. LOL Turned out the ISP supplied router was updated by the ISP across their link and they enabled MAC filtering. Turkeys, didn't let me know. Anyway with both NIC's enabled I copied and pasted the N-6300 MAC address into the router filter table and the WiFi connected. Most notebooks seem to be configured with a connection tool that do that. I have seen it happen in Toshiba, Compaq, ThinkPad and other brands over many years. Now whether you can lock it in, that would be something else.I had to go in and change it in two Thinkpads so they're both active. That was last June so I don't remember where I accomplished it.

I've had this Alienware for a couple of years now, obviously with a genuine OEM version of Win 7 X64 installed on it but I suddenly started getting popups that my version wasn't genuine today after installing some updates....

I ofcourse tried to roll back with System restore first but that didn't help.

Afterwards I tried installing the little verify tool windows has online and that told me my version wasn't valid either so that was a bit awkward since they asked me to buy a new one.

If I check my system settings it still says it's genuine and I think I can even still download updates but I keep getting the popup in my face with a 0x8004fe21 error code in the corner.

So, I started googling a bit and the first thing I tried was the following:

Quote:
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator.
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes) Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe

That seemed to work, I got a "Your version is activated!" menu after a few seconds so I figured it was all good but it obviously wasn't.

Hi, I was just working with XP PRO SP2 in VMware and I wanted to know if I'm getting a glitch where it is letting me activate it more than once and passes the genuine portion. Firmly I would like to know how the validation plays a role if I am activating windows and once I disconnect the network, I am then able to install media player 11 which requires a validation.

I've tried to find the answers all over but it's time to ask the [H] crew ! Thanks for your time.

Answer:XP Activation / Passing Genuine Validation

Doesn't WPA allow you to activate a few times before it forces you to call the Microsoft mothership? So in theory you could install it on three or four PCs before you get in trouble.. allthough that would be illegal.

Speaking of virtual machines - what are Microsofts licensing terms for virtual machines? I mean, if I create two virtual machines on my PC and install XP on both of them, in addition to running XP on the "real" system - does this count as one physical PC, two (one for the "real" pc and one for the virtual machines) or does it count as three separate physical computers?

I purchased this direct from MS (contained 32 & 64 bit DVD's) for a previous HP laptop which is now kaput.
So I thought I would upgrade a really old laptop "Hi Grade TW3-EAA" with my "purchased & licensed" copy of Win 7 HP from Win XP. Had no errors at upgrade time after I entered the PK (or that I noticed).
Has been working until today.
After the latest "auto update" today I saw the "activation" icon in the sys tray (NOT been there prior to today's auto-update)!
So I foolishly entered the PK that belongs to the DVD I used to upgrade.

You need to use Operator Activation to move a license from one computer to another -
NOTE: you cannot have the same license installed on more than one computer.

telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

Hi all,

I have a problem I've been trying to solve and hope someone can help.

I purchased an Acer desktop which came with Vista but as it was around the time of changeover I got a free upgrade to Win7

I was living in Malaysia but left in July. Before I left I got the local computer shop to check and service the computer as it was much cheaper than where I was going to (Japan).

Shortly after arriving in Japan Win7 deactivated. I contacted MS and they say to contact Acer in Malaysia which I did.

They asked for serial numbers and the Win code on the computer. This is where trouble strikes - the code on the computer is for Vista. After about 3 weeks of going back and forth they finally provide a new 20 digit product ID. However this doesn't work so Acer tell me to use the phone registration. This option won't come up for me, even when trying to fiddle with it using slmgr.vbs, slui.exe and other methods.

I have contacted the computer repair shop too and they have basically brushed me off.

So I now turn to you all and hope you might be able to help me out please. Thanks!

Here is the code.

Hi and Thx in advance,

Not sure if this is the right forum but its my best guess.

I have an NEC netbook it has widows 7 starter. (Well thats what it came with)

I started getting messages to upgrade to windows 10 before July deadline for free upgrade.

I thought why not, and clicked it and entered the product code, it told me that this code needed to be activated, but when I tried that it told me that this code was not supported or valid or whatever.

I tried a couple of other product keys which were listed on the internet, but with the same result and it seemed that some years ago it had been possible to upgrade from starter to home premium through anytime upgrade, but that this was no longer possible, and it seems that widows 7 starter is not eligible for upgrade to windows 10 even though my computer has the capability to run it apparently. Anyway I gave up on it.

However, a while later I noticed that some upgrade process was actually in progress, and after some time completed with a message that not all upgrades had been successful.

Then I noticed that I now have windows 7 home premium installed, I dont know how I managed to do it but there it is. So now I am getting a countdown of 30 days to activate this version of windows, and it wants a product key again.

My question is, what is going to happen when the countdown runs out, (17 days left as of 14 July), and what should I do ? Ohh, I'm still getting the reminders to upgrade to windows 10 but trying to do that ... Read more

Bought a Lenovo T61 laptop with Win 7 Pro from craiglist.
Windows Updates, Internet etc. works fine.
Didn't get any 'Copy may not be genuine, victim of counterfeting' popup.
But the Activation section under System Properties is missing.
When I tried running slui.exe, it says Access Denied, even though the file is there in system32.
I tried switching to Hidden admin account, no use.

First off, thanks for reading my post.

Second, apologies if the answer already exists on the forum. I've searched the forum for related posts for this issue & code, I got about 400 hits. I went through about a dozen with no luck (plus other non-sevenforums Google searches), so I'm posting.

My computer description is in my profile: self-built in 2011, running Win7 Pro 64 (OEM, purchased on Newegg, quite confident it is legit). Until a few days ago, I had no issues with Windows Activation. I believe it was on Dec 10 that Windows Update picked up several updates, apparently for Office 2007. After that update, I began receiving the alert that my computer was not running genuine Windows with the error code 0x8004fe21. See attached screenshot. Yet under the System panel, it shows as activated.

I have tried several fixes so far, none have been successful in resolving the issue:
I uninstalled the Windows updates I received around Dec 10.
I uninstalled an old copy of Office (pre-2007). I use LibreOffice.
Based on several recommendations on this site & others, I updated the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver to the most recent posted on the Asus site for my mobo (V10.5.0.1026).
I've repeatedly tried the "Resolve online now" link to the /genuine/validate site on microsoft.com. On IE11, it tells me the browser isn't configured to run the required script and asks me to download legitcheck.hta. I never use IE, so I went to my default Firefox where the page... Read more

Hi there
I recently changed a MOBO from an INTEL based one to one using an AMD PHENOM processor -- W7 didn't want any new activation rather surprisingly. (Broken Mobo and I had a spare ASUS MOBO lying around).

However the first time I switched to using a LAN cable instead of a Wifi USB adapter I got the "Hardware has changed - please activate windows. OK it activated fine -- however seems strange to me that a MOBO change didn't call for any activation (Disks, memory, DVD device etc were canaballized from the old machine) but a simple switch from Wifi to a LAN did. !!! The internal logic of the activation process seems totally illogical and bizarre. (Running W7 x-64 ULTIMATE). !!!

Cheers
jimbo

I was thinking of reactivating online , but am wary of further messing up the install . I have not registered the product yet , Had a look at the Acronis register page ( they tell you Not recommended to access the page) ? Any ideas with this one ? options uninstall , reinstall? Try activate online? Anyone experienced this problem?

Hi Gents,

Hope someone can help me here. I've been using a retail version of Win7 Home premium 64 for about 2 years now with no issues.

During that time I've reinstalled the product possibly 6 or 8 times. Excessive I know but when things start to go wrong I like to start fresh again. Anyway from memory the last 2 times I have had to use phone activation.

A couple of weeks ago I dropped my laptop and killed the HDD. Put in a new one and reinstalled Win. I've just tried to activate with no luck. I went to phone activation and being lazy I typed in my old code I had saved from last time.

Now I can't activate and when I try and open the phone activation box I get a pop up from the toolbar saying the copy isn't genuine and nothing more.

Is there a way to resolve this or have I pissed off the activation so much that I actually have to shell out for a new copy?

Thanks in advance and I'm located in Thailand if that makes a difference.

Maybe you bought an upgarde disc and not a full install disc.

Hello, I have a HP Envy Notebook PC. Recently, I had to send the Notebook back to factory for repair. My laptop has since been returned. THe laptop came with Windows 8.1 installed. However, a message "Activate Windows: Your product activation key doesn't work". This is very annoying. What can I do?

Hi Everybody,

I updated to Windows 10 last week from what I thought was an activated version of windows 8.1, but now I'm stuck with an "Activate Windows" watermark in the bottom right of my screen (which goes over everything, not just the desktop) and I was wondering if in order to activate windows I could just buy a new product key, or would I need to re-install windows with the new product key. If anyone could give me any other idea of how to resolve my problem I would be truly grateful.

Answer:Windows 10 Activation Help

First thing to try is to activate it using your windows 8.1 key (change product key) from activation menu.

Use showkeyplus to extract 8.1 key if you do not know it.

Question: Windows Activation

Hi,
I m getting this message since yesterday.

This pre-release version of Windows 7 Ultimate will expire in 0 hours

To keep using Windows, back up your files, and then install any edition of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Then after some min it restart on its own.....

my configuaration-

windws 7 Ultimate
SP-1,v.721

now what can u do???

Answer:Windows Activation

Please check this thread for a possible solution: Pre-Release version expiring

It seems you need to uninstall the pre-release version of SP1 and install the up-to-date RTM version of SP1. This is because what you have is the pre-release version of Windows 7, which has an expiry date.

When I say SP1, I'm talking about the service pack itself, not a complete re-install of Windows 7.

I really need some help. I have gotten the windows activation pro virus and do not know how to remove it. I cannot restore to a previous version as there are no saves. If i try to go into the task manager i cannot see the task manager to kill the virus (if thats how you do it). I would really like for someone to help guide me through. All the guides i have seen were either confusing or didn't work. Thanks!Edit: Moved topic from Windows 10 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Question: windows activation

Do you have to activate Win XP and if not how can I stop popup reminder for activation countdown. Is there anyway cause it is very annoying.

Answer:windows activation

A necessary evil I'm afraid. Windows XP will typically remind you to activate the product (most users will have 30 days to activate XP after installation).

To activate XP manually, you can use the Start menu shortcut in the System Tools Accessories folder. At the command prompt, type: oobe/msoobe /a or Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Activate Windows.

The key should be on the COA (Certificate Of Authenticity) on the side or back of your computer. If this is an OEM product and you do NOT have the COA on your computer then you will have to call Microsoft to activate your copy of Windows. You should be able to activate online if your using Cable/DSL.

Question: Windows Activation

When I try to activate Windows Media Center I get an error

"Microsoft out of box experience has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

any suggestions on how I can get my copy activated?

Answer:Windows Activation

Telephone Activation - if you choose to activate Windows XP using the telephone, you will need to read the 44-digit Product ID to the support representative in the activation center. You will then be given a 42-digit Activation ID, which you have to enter in the activation wizard. The support representative will wait until you finish typing in the Activation ID to ensure that the activation is successful.

Alrighty, so I'm trying to fix my friend's computer, and I've hit a bump.

I've popped in the XP disc and Installed Windows again. The problem I get is when I try to log on. I'm required to activate windows to log on, but I can't log on to activate it.

The Error message I'm getting is :

This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate windows now.

If I click Yes, it logs on, but then automatically logs off again.

Any ideas?

Answer:Windows Activation. -_-

Hi Olliegami and welcome to TSF

You might try a format before reinstalling windows. From what you posted, sounds like the 30 day period has timed out.

Note: Once you have installed windows, don't adjust the date on the clock.
I did that once and thereby exceeded the 30day period. I couldn't get past the login screen you described and had to re-install windows to finish my setup.

Hope this helps,
Mack1

Answer:Windows XP Activation

Have you checked the COA sticker on the side of the computer that usually has the proper keycode on it, it will also give you what version should be installed.Or maybe if you have changed the hard drive it may not be recognized.

Hello. I just rebuilt a computer and installed Windows 7 Pro on it, and its not letting me activate the computer for some reason.. I keep getting a error message, and I tried doing the call in option and it said it was unable to provide me with a confirmation ID. I got the key from my College on a MSDN Account, because Im enrolled as a Information Technology student. Any help!?

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/750/69296217.png

Thanks!

Answer:Windows 7 Activation

We cant help you. You will have to talk to your school rep for thr MSDN program. Find out why the serial isnt working. By rebuilt what do you mean? Cause if you changed the mother board and CPU that constitutes a new PC and your license will no longer be valid. A school license is just like an OEM license. So if you switched mother boards you will either have to see if your school will give you amother license or buy one.

I purchased a few months agos an upgrade ver of winxp for a troubled system that died 2 days after I upgraded it to winxp. That computer no longer exists. I have since purchased a new computer w/OS. I would like to pass on the winxp upgrade that I did activate but only used for 2 days. I have consulted the Microsoft WS but I do not want buy a new license since I did not get any real use out of the one I bought, nor do I want whoever I donate it to, to to have to purchase a license. I also do not want to pay the fee to get in touch with Microsoft. I spent good money on an upgrade that I am not using and I want to pass it on as a legit copy. How do I go about getting a new activation key without incurring additional expenses? Thanks!

Answer:New Activation Key for Windows XP

and welcome to the Forum

You do not need a new key . . whoever installs it next, at the point they activate it, will just call microsoft and explain that it is being reinstalled on a different machine. It's a quick and easy call for them.

Since it is an upgrade version, the next user will need a previous installation cd to be able to install

I purchased this laptop in July of 2014 from Micro Center. It came with Windows 8 installed. I upgraded to 8.1 and then finally Windows 10. This is a personal laptop I use infrequently. Last week when I turned on the computer it would not boot and got as far as the HP logo with the spinning wheel of death. I tried numerous fixes and finally had to settle for a full clean recovery. That worked well and I'm now back to 8.0 however I now keep getting the notice: "You Need To Activate 8.0 (without it I can't update to 8.1 and without that I can't get to 10 if that option is still available). I do not have the windows key / certifcate to enter. I never backed up or made a recovery disc. Can anyone help me with this? I would hope that HP will have a fix for owners like me that this happens to without having to buy an OS for get a key. In my mind since I bought this the key should be automatically givin to us. Note: I get an error code OxC004C003 on the activation page which I think means I upgraded to 10 from 8.1 using free upgrade offer but somwhere along the way an activation didn't happen. I made no signifcant hardware changes other than installing additional RAM. Thanks for your help out there

Answer:How and where can I get a Windows 8 activation key after re...

Hello, Welcome to the HP Support forum. If you upgraded to Windows 10 (from 8/8.1) and if Windows 10 was successfully activated back then, you are entitled to use Windows 10 using a Digital Entitlement method of activation with out key. If you prefer, you can install Windows 10 and it should activate fine.More info and how this can be done , here:>> http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Trying-to-Boot-From-USB/td-p/582...>> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12440/windows-10-activation If you prefer to stay on Windows 8/8.1, please let me know how you installed it now. This is important. Did you perform HP Recovery using F11 method / built-in recovery partitions ? If this was not used and you install Windows 8 by other means (other type of Windows 8, not OEM one), you will need a recovery media >> http://www.computersurgeons.com/p-25017-windows-8-64-bit-usb-recovery-kit-736803-003-for-hp-pavilion... You can also read this article with general advice and steps about Windows 8/8.1 activation issues:>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03486254>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03486254#AbT4 Looking forward to your update, clarification and comments. Good day all! I was doing a little looking around on the computer and found the following message under the system tab:

1 day until automatic activation. Activate windows now.

It shows a 20 character Product ID with OEM after the first five characters. I looked on the bottom of the computer and found a 25 alphanumeric Product Key. I believe, under the system tab, it used to say that it was activated. We have had the computer well over a year and I have not done any mods or motherboard maintenance. It is an HP running 7 Home Premium/64 with SP1. Don't want to render the computer useless or run into something costly. Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks! Duckman

Answer:Windows Activation Help Please

try using the Activate windows now and enter the key you found on the bottom of the computer and see what happens.

Hi everyone,
I have just formatted my laptop and installed a new version of Windows 8.1,
At the beginning it was all ok, but after some hour it started saying that it's not a genuine version and that I need a product key.
Initially I had a genuine Windows 8 on my laptop, is there any way to rescue my product key?
Could you tell me what to do otherwise? I also read some things about cracks like KSMPico but I never used anything like that so I've no idea what to do with those.. I plan on upgrading to Windows 10 soon anyway, so I wouldn't mind getting something temporary.

Thank you very much!

Answer:Windows 8.1 activation

this utility will show you your OEM key and what version of Windows 8.1 its for. Showkey - Windows 10 Forums You don't really need to know what the key is, just what version was installed at the factory. Once you know what version you need go here, Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help and download it. If you install the correct version it will automatically use your OEM embedded key without you having to type it in. Just so you know talking about cracks and cheating activation will get you banned in the blink of an eye. You might want to edit any such reference out of your post.

I purchased legal licence for windows and I know that KMS activator (KMSPico) is illegal method to activate windows and office. I never plan to use it but I'm interested how that activator really works. I've always thought windows is secure system since activation process is online with serial key that is unique to every legaly purchased licence. I would be very thankfull if someone answered this couple of questions :
1) Who made KMSPico , did some hacker write it in c++ or is it microsoft product ?
2) What does KMSPico actually do to windows system so it can bypass online activation, how it actually works ?
3) Why didn't microsoft protect its system with windows update ?

1) Microsoft supports a licensing mode called Key Management Service (KMS), but it is typically only used (available?) for volume licensing accounts. I remember playing with it at work a few years back and it seems like there had to be some number (I want to say 25 or more -- but maybe it is only 5?) Windows systems for the KMS system to become operational.

I'm not familiar with KMSPico, but based on a quick Google search it reveals that KMSPico is not a Microsoft product and appears to primarily be used to facilitate software piracy of Microsoft Windows.

2) I've never used KMSPico and do not know specifically how it works. (I don't think the discussion would be permitted on this forum)

I just recently formatted and reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition on my computer, but since I've already used up my activation keys limit of how many times I can activate it, it keeps on begging for a new one. I already activated it before, which was the first time I installed it... so do I have to do it again? What will happen if I don't? Do I have to phone the Customer Service to do it?

Answer:Windows XP Activation

Its this a full version of winxp! or dvd/ disk recovery!More info>http://aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htmActivation - Workaround (Ronnie Vernon MVP)If you are doing a repair reinstall of XP on the same hardware, you can back up the activation status and then restore it after you run the repair install of the OS. To save the activation status, back up the wpa.dbl file from the %systemroot%\system32 folder to a floppy disk. After the repair install of the OS is complete, start in Minimal Safe mode. Open the \%systemroot%\system32 folder. Rename wpa.dbl to wpa.noact. Copy the backed up wpa.dbl file to the system32 folder. Reboot your system. This isn't a hack to avoid activating installations and will work only on the same hardware for an XP installation that you've already activated.

Answer:Need help with Windows XP Pro activation

Welcome to Major Geeks! I've called Microsoft many, many times in the past to activate and every so often, there's a communication problem or I get routed to tech support or some craziness... the activation people are in India, so the occasional bad connection is understandable. All I can really suggest is to try calling them again on a different phone. If you boot in Safe Mode and log in as Administrator, you can run a product key extraction tool (like ProduKey or KeyFinderThingy) so you can have the product key if the activation people need it...... good luck!

Question: windows activation

Hey Guys.I just like to know im dealing with a compaq laptop where a mainbored has been replaced and its keep coming up with windows activation messages. its been remastered/recovered twice and still same issue. there is a product key underneeth but its rubbed off.whats the next solution?

Answer:windows activation

Windows stores the activation information in two files in the c:\windows\system32 folder: Wpa.dbl and Wpa.bak. If those files are locked, or permissions are incorrect, Windows may not be able to save its activation information. You might also want to check the following registry keys:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFTNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon(change Activation Required value to zero)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion(change RegDone value to 1)Boot into safe mode, click Start?Run and type regedit then check these values.
