Microsoft to Force Microsoft Store Account to Activate Windows 9

Question: Microsoft to Force Microsoft Store Account to Activate Windows 9

Windows 9 will reportedly have new activation methods that will tie the OS more closely with a specific PC

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will unveil Windows 9 this fall, claims notorious Russian leaker WZor, who has a pretty good track record. In a Russian language post on Ru-Board, the leaker said that the upcoming update to Windows 8 will be the last major overhaul of the existing OS. Microsoft is expected to launch the Windows 8 Update 2 in August.

Windows 9 to have new activation methods

WZor claimed that Microsoft will back the launch of Windows 9 with heavy advertising blitzkrieg and a new distribution method. The new activation methods will tie a copy of Windows 9 more closely with a specific PC. It will require the user to log in to Microsoft Store, and users won’t be given an activation key. Talking about Windows 8, WZor said that there will be new updates after the Update 2 due next month. But no new features will be added to it.

Motivation behind the new activation method is “problems in China.” The world’s most populous country recently banned Windows 8. Notably, a couple of weeks ago, WZor claimed that Microsoft may announce Windows 9 at its Worldwide Partner Conference, which begins July 13 in Washington D.C. That claim was missing in the latest report, but WZor reassured us that the new OS will be launched this fall. However, he only talked about the announcement, without revealing whether it will be a Developer’s Preview or Preview of Windows 9.
One Windows 9 to fit every device?

The Russian leaker said that Microsoft will bring back the Start button and menu, which seems to be a safe bet. Other reports suggest that Windows 9 will have the capability to identify the device and transform its user interface for a more friendly experience on that device. For instance, if it detects a keyboard attached, the OS will have a desktop UI. If there is no keyboard attached, it will have a tablet interface.

The launch of Windows 9 would put an end to Windows 8. If Microsoft brings the new OS with a lucrative upgrade offer for Windows 7 and Windows 8 customers–along with a consumer migration tool–the software giant has a chance to re-establish its dominant position.Click to expand...

All the great hype about Windows 9 has just taken a big shit. If this is true, fuck forcing us to use their stupid store. I hate the minor online ties that Windows 8 has, let alone forcing online log on just to use the computer. I'm speculating there will not be a local account option in Windows 9.

*Update*

WZor says that Microsoft is currently facing some challenges with Windows 9 activation, which is slowing down development. Apparently, the company wants to let Windows PC buyers activate their Windows 9 copies by logging into the Microsoft Store. In such a case, an activation key won’t be required.

If customers try to activate Windows 9 on three different PCs with just a license, Windows Store will cancel the activation after three days, inviting users to “detach” two systems from their accounts, or purchase two more licenses.

Furthermore, Microsoft is also working on a new reinstall/restore process that will ditch the need of boot disks. Instead, Windows 9 installation may become a process more similar to Apple’s OS X install/reinstall process.Click to expand...

Preferred Solution: Microsoft to Force Microsoft Store Account to Activate Windows 9

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Microsoft to Force Microsoft Store Account to Activate Windows 9

Not sure how logging into the store ties the OS more specifically to a computer. Doesn't seem right at all. However, if it is only logging onto the Microsoft Store to activate, and not forcing a Microsoft account to use the computer, I can see that being okay. As long as the local account continues to be an option, things will be fine. If I'm forced to use a Microsoft account to use my computer... I'll stay on 8.1. And then maybe move to Linux.

Transformation of UI is already being done in 8.1 Update 1. No surprise that it would be further enhanced.

Launch of 9 wouldn't put an end to 8. And let's face it, Microsoft never lost its dominance on the desktop market. There is nothing for them to re-establish here. The only thing they need to establish is a stronger presence in the mobile market.

can you enter the account using a browser on a pc? you might have two-step authentication turned on, which is why it asks for an activation code?
then again an 'activation code' is only needed when you're trying to activate sth :/

Just like it happened in Windows 8, Windows 10 requires users to log in with a Microsoft account in order to install apps from the Store, but this is no longer valid for those whose computers are powered by the Pro SKU of the operating system.

German website WIndowsArea has discovered that Microsoft suddenly made a policy change that makes it possible for Windows 10 Pro users to install apps from the Windows Store without the need for a Microsoft Account.

There are some limitations though. First of all, only freeware applications can be installed, so if you want to purchase an app, an account is still required.

Then, if you?re trying to update a paid application that?s already installed on your Windows 10 device, an account is once again needed.

Why the change?
Microsoft hasn?t explained why exactly it made this change, but given the fact that it concerns the Pro version of the operating system, it?s not difficult to see that the company specifically targeted companies that are trying to get more control over what users install on their systems.

On the other hand, it?s not yet clear if the Enterprise SKU of Windows 10 can also install apps without a Microsoft account because reports in this regard are still mixed, with some claiming that it works, while others indicating that it doesn?t.

Without a doubt, installing apps from the Windows Store without an account can boost adoption of Store apps, but we?ve reached out to Microsoft to find out if this is inde... Read more

Had a trial version of Office on my tower - a 64 bit Home that was set up with only a local account. The trial expired so I bought Office - Home & Student 2016. When I click on one of the desktop icons for any of the components of Office I get a message box telling me that my subscription has expired. I have 3 choice boxes:

Buy - I want to renew or buy OfficeEnter Key - I have a product keySign In - Add this computer to an active account

Buy takes me to a screen where they want me to RENT the damn product. Enter Key takes to an entry screen where after I input my key it wants me to sign in to a Microsoft Account, which I do not have and do not want. Sign In is obviously not the answer.

When i try and download apps from the store it makes me sign in with my Microsoft account.

For security reasons my Microsoft account is quite complicated

After i sign in with the Microsoft account the next time i start my computer i have to use the Microsoft password and because its so complicated that is just not practical.

Is there not a way i can access the store without this Microsoft account password

Answer:App store and Microsoft account

You need Gmail account to access play store likewise you need Microsoft account to access Microsoft Account. Though there is some work around but i would suggest you to Change your Password to something much less complicated but Strong.

Oh bother...

I'm running Windows 10 9879 in VMWare Workstation 10, this the third build that has this problem. I cannot and it will not let me sign into my Microsoft Account to start out with. The error code only seems to pertain to some Windows Update error on other versions of Windows. I can't really install many Windows updates, some do some don't. New build previews don't go either, an error code search will result in Windows update errors on other versions and doesn't do anything with 10. I also cannot activate it whatsoever.

It does connect to the Matrix and I can browse with IE just fine, but everything on that end of the spectrum doesn't work.

What could be the issue here?

I think I might use a spare drive and do a hard install on that of 10 since my SSD can't be partitioned enough for the install. My bet is VMWare doing something.

Hi! ^_^
I'll give you my experiences with the new Store for shorts:
Many of my friends and relatives are buying copies of Windows 10 and they wanted me to install it on their PCs with all the software they need. Everything went perfect until I had the great idea of login into the Store with my very own Microsoft account just to install a couple of Store apps they wanted me to install.
Now, my problem is that I have 5 different devices from different people with my Microsoft account saved. I mean, I went to the Store and logged out my account, but still it's showing when you want to login to another account and, if you click it, it logins into my account again without even requesting for a password!
I'm pretty concern about this problem because I don't want them to install new Store using my account by mistake since I would lost control of my account's library.
I hope you can help me with this riddle. Thanks in advance. :3

Hi there
I think with the impending release of Windows 8.1 those people who can't get enterprise via TechNet or work should also be allowed access to the relevant ISO download rather than have to set up an account with Ms and then use the wretched store to "Upgrade" even if it does a "New install".

What about people out there who don't necessarily even WANT Internet access on their machines --nothing wrong with Stand alone boxes for certain purposes -- for example even simple File and Print servers that don't need Internet access.

The idea of having to go through bells and whistles to set up Local accounts on windows 8.1 is nonsense. Also a lot of people often re-install Windows for all sorts of reasons --doing this from an ISO is far simpler than having to sort out downloads from the store --and what happens in any case if on the day you want to install Windows 8.1 you don't have Internet access for all sorts of reasons so you couldn't get to the stupid store even if you wanted to.

I'm not surprised changes are taking place at the top of Ms --otherwise it will sink faster than the Titanic.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:To Microsoft: 8.1 ISO wanted no account via the store

This is more than your typical service pack or Windows update. Its a kernel change and a whole lot more. Upgrade installs almost always have issues. I'd just as soon go right to 8.1 on a reinstall.

When I bought my new laptop with Windows 8 preferred me to create a Microsoft Account and use it to sign each to access Windows. After doing some reading I understand it syncs things like personal settings such as wall paper, font etc. What else does it sync? For example it seems to automatically connect other Microsoft products to the Microsoft Account used to log in to Windows, for example it automatically signed in Onenote which now stores notes in the cloud.

Does signing through a Microsoft Account backup programs and data of other programs? For example if I installed Adobe Photoshop and created a image using it and had my laptop stolen, would it have automatically be saved to the cloud?

Hi,

I use local accounts on my desktop. I do not want to use Microsoft Accounts.

However, I want to use the Store sometimes. From what I understand I can't just use my Microsoft login directly to get into the store. I have to change my desktop user login from a local one to a Microsoft Account login before I access the store. Am I correct?

If so, when I want to access the store, can I just change my user account type before using the store, then change it back to a local one immediately afterwards? Will changing my user account back to a local one completely disassociate my Microsoft Account from my PC?

Call me paranoid, but I just want to run Microsoft's operating system on my PC. I do not want to have Microsoft synching and otherwise 'controlling' my PC

Answer:Access store without microsoft account login

I don't think you need to change user account, I'm on my domain user account now, and if I remember well, the first time I go to the Store, it ask me a Microsoft account, I type the user and password of my Microsoft account in the pop up Windows that open and he never ask me again.

I am setting up my first Windows 10 computer, having been on Windows 7 for a number of years, and I have run into a problem with the Microsoft Store. I have never had a Microsoft account before but I decided to go with the flow and allow my user accounts to be Microsoft accounts rather than local accounts. But my admin account is strictly a local account.
I am setting up a new computer, so naturally I plan to install software from the admin account and then set user accounts to be able to use it. The Microsoft Store doesn't ask for an account until you select something to buy or download. So I selected a free app to download (Audiobooks from Audible, I think it was), and responded to the Choose an account prompt, while logged into my admin account, but I responded with my personal Microsoft account information. Seems to me that it asked me for account information twice, but I'm not positive. Anyway, the Store now seems to be somehow linked with my admin account and unavailable from my user account.
When I now bring up the Store from my admin account and select something to download, the "Choose an account" pop-up displays my Email address, which is the login for my Microsoft account, as used for my user account on this computer, PLUS an entry entitled "Microsoft account Outlook.com, hotmail, Live.com, MSN". Hello,

My problem is i think i have a buged micro. acc.
I already changed 4 time my password.
But my account will be corrupted few days to two weeks later.

Corrupted is what i call: Not possible to login with my Known password.
Password or email is invalid.

Off course resetting the password for my online account work, but it's the fourth time i have to do it.
I checked my activity, and only my ip is showing in two years or more .

So i'm sure it's not a security problem.
I don't use wifi.
If i manage my account i do it on a linux distrib.
And the new passwords are always different.

1: i'm using a fresh win 10 64 home install,
I have only games installed and not pirated one + updated drivers.
And a security suite.
I use emsisoft emergency kit, time to time to do an offline scan, and c cleaner without toolbar, just to clean temp files without reg cleaner.

2: I only use a signed account for windows store and one or two microsoft games that require it.

3: possible solution to not corrupt again my account:
I had to remove the login feature registering my mail in account settings pannel.
A nd log out from store at first.

4: The first time i had this problem, it was after login to micro. acc. to check windows store.
In years of use, i never encountered it with marketplace or windowslive.
5: This is the reason i will never use a global microsoft account as method to login with users to windows.

Do you have a solution ?
Is it a bug ?

Thanks a lot

Answer:Possible microsoft account corrupting itself at store login ?

Oh i forgot:

6: I use a pin auth when i need to manage account settings.
7: When i had to reset passwords, i could still use microsoft solitaire, mahjong, store.
8: If i loged out to those apps, and tryed to log in again with same password,
It was impossible: invalid password.

Should i delete my current account, and recreate it, in hope it will debug it ?
I don't care if i loose all my game progress or bought items from market place years ago if it can help to resolve the problem.

Posting here to help others hopefully spend less time figuring this out.

I had some issues where remote desktop stopped working.  I could connect, but it would not accept my username password.  Everything looked OK...the user had access, remote desktop was enabled, etc.  It turns out that Windows 10 merged my local computer account with my Microsoft account.  It resulted in Store errors ("Something went wrong on our end") and Remote Desktop not accepting my password.  I tried using my local password, my Microsoft password, etc.  Nothing worked.  I tried changing my username...had to restore the system since it fully deleted it after letting me change it.  I gave up Googling for the remote desktop and decided to test with the Windows Remote Desktop app in the Store to see if it was the iOS version.  I got the store error and went on a tangent trying to resolve that.  Lo and behold, I discovered the fix here that resolved both issues:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-win_upgrade/getting-error-message-try-again-later-something/c59e1d32-e979-4906-ae8b-85396d51480b?page=2

In the end, the simple solution is to make the account a local account. You'll have to sign back into your Microsoft account again, but RD and the Store both work great!

I am from India.
I used to connect to store at beginning.
But to avail Cortana in India, i made some changes in keyboard, speech, region and language settings as shown in some youtube video.
And apps now cannot be installed now showing error "Microsoft account services are currently unavailable."
I read somewhere on internet that this error is caused due to region settings, and i have tried various combinations of settings, but none worked. Unfortunately, I forgot to keep note of what the default settings were.
So now I am trying to back my phone up and want to do hard reset.
But Backup also giving error (at 96% only) "Connection to server is lost."

Hello,
I have been using Windows 10 for just over a year (a recent convert from mac OS). i hope you guys can help me out.

I recently got infected with 3 trojans. Bitdefender picked them, quarantined them but after every reboot they came back. So I downloaded Malwarebytes which not only quarantined them effectively but also identified several more that bitdefender had not picked up. Now every thing is fine except for the following issues:

I cannot log on to microsoft account, cannot open store, use cortana, edge does not open, and weather app and Xbox do not open. I gave microsoft remote access but after several hours they came to the conclusion that system restore is the only option. Id like to avoid that since then I will loose my MS Office for which i dont have the original key anymore.

I have myself tried almost every trick mentioned on the internet - powershell, sfc/scannow but to no avail. If I create amother user, I can logon to my microsoft account from settings but store, edge, cortana, weather, xbox still do not open. Disabling malewarebytes, bitdefender or Zonealarm firewall do not help either.

I thought id post the Malewarebytes quarantine file here to see which registry key is causing this. I deleted the quarantined files so unfortunately cannot restore. Please any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Hi mab5555 and welcome to Ten Forums.

Maybe some expert will comment on that infections later. But with mess like this clean install is almost always best solution.
If Office key is only drawback, try Speccy or Belarc advisor they usually provide original keys of installed software.

One thing I don't quite get... System restore is like system backup and Office should stay intact, but it is difficult to predict exact time of infection and pick correct restore point.

Other possible solution is so called inplace upgrade (tutorial link). Download ISO of Windows 10 from MS site and let the setup run. ISO should be of the same language as your current install.

If you want to be able to restore your current Windows install (if anything get lost) make a system backup with Macrium reflect free.

Can microsoft force us to windows 8 with directx 11.1 via deal's with game developers to develop for it, and compatability etc

Even though today, most games still support directx 9 and windows XP, there are a phew games heading down the road of DX10/11 only. but it has taken quite a phew year's for that to even be a consideration

How do I stop this notification permanently? The icon shows up in my task bar and I also can't remove it from there! I use Automatic Update for security and other vital updates--Windows 8 is not vital to me!

Is Microsoft forcing me to upgrade because 6 support will stop in the near future. Sites like Facebook are already notifying me that my browser is not compatible with their web site and I should change.

Sign in to use OneNote
OneNote uses your Microsoft account to sync notes to your phone, PC, and Web.Click to expand...

We have a user with a new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet running Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro with the latest updates and a copy of Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus. This fullscreen message will pop-up randomly whether user is idling or actively working on tablet, even if user does not have OneNote open. None of the user's OneNote Notebooks are set to synchronize or save to the web or OneDrive. In fact, OneDrive isn't even installed. User has two Notebooks, both of which I personally created for the user, and had specifically set it to keep the Notebooks local and not save anywhere else.

How do I turn this off? How do I stop this stupid fullscreen message permanently? This isn't good for Corporate/Enterprise environments.

Answer:Microsoft OneNote won't stop asking to sign into Microsoft account

Looks like the answer for this may lie in regedit. Check out this thread, scroll about 50% of the way down.

Hi

With Windows 8.1 Update, I use some local account.

When I log on to one of them, I open the "Microsoft Store" app and I access through a Microsoft account.

At this point, I noticed that my local account is completely switched to the Microsoft account. How come? How do I prevent this?

Thanks

Answer:The "Microsoft Store" app and local account

Hello Balubeto,

The Store requires that you are signed in with a Microsoft account to install anything from the Store.

You switched your local account to be a Microsoft account instead of "sign into each app separately instead" to only add your Microsoft account.

If you like, you can switch it back to a local account using the tutorial below.
Local Account - Switch to in Windows 8
The only way to prevent this would be to use step 5 in the tutorial below for a local account, or continue to use a Microsoft account.
Windows Store - Sign in with Different Microsoft Account in Windows 8
Hope this helps.

Answer:The "Microsoft Store" app and local account

The account should never switch itself..

You would have to sign up with an email, your name, birthday, etc. Without that information it wouldn't make a Microsoft account. But, in order to download apps from the Store, you are required to use a Microsoft account. The only exception I've seen is the 8.1 update from the Store. You can download that using a Local account.

I am facing difficulty in activating the microsoft package , each time i enter the product key printed on the sticker fixed on my pc , it says wrong key.
Please help.

Answer:Re: Unable to activate the Windows Vista Business using the Microsoft key

The Microsoft key you can find on the bottom side of your notebook is not a kind of ?universal key? and this key belongs to Vista preinstalled on your notebook. You got your notebook with preinstalled Vista. With your notebook you paid one license and operating system.

Following Toshiba reminder you must create Toshiba recovery DVD and this installations DVD you can use so often you want with your notebook. This Vista version belongs to you and can be used with your notebook only.

If you use Microsoft installations DVD you must have key for this version. if you don't have it you must buy a key online and activate preinstalled Vista version.

Yesterday at 16:53 GMT+1 my account was accessed, with either my own pretty safe password (Changed it already) Or a workaround for badguys is being used (Keylogger, using Microsoft Safety Scanner now to check anything MBAM can't find)

Either way, I need your assistance in tracing this security incident.
I know I'm a Microsoft Enthousiast / Evangelist / MCP / MCTS, who invested much, but not for the last time, in Certification, and my TechNet contract still has some days left. So, in my humble opinion I'm asking the right person here. Also

Answer:My Microsoft Account was accessed by a Microsoft IP, can you explain please?

It is better to keep in touch with Microsoft Account support team to investigate it . If Microsoft was really wanted to hack into your system, they were smart enough not do it directly from their office. It is possible someone used IP Spoofing, which means
using certain software to produce fake IP Address. So let say, if you are in Europe, it will produce IP to websites which display you are in U.S.

I recently downloaded Microsoft 8.1 from 8.0.  Since then I have had several issues.  I have worked many of them out.  I needed to install the Kindle app in metro.  It wanted me to put in my local user password, I did.  Then it wanted me to log into my Microsoft account, with password, I did.  Then it wanted a code number.  I put that in.  Then it wanted to put all my documents, pictures, and settings into the cloud. That was something I was unsure whether to do or not.  If I agree to that, it then wants to switch me from my local user account, to my Microsoft account.  I don't want to do that.  Why can't I just keep my local user account?  If I do allow this to happen, I will automatically go to Metro won't I?  I don't want to start in Metro.  I want to start in the desktop, which is where I spend most of my time.  I also read this somewhere, and you had to be on the internet and logged in Microsoft to use your computer.  Is this right?  If it is, I surely do NOT want to do that.  I wish I had stayed with 8.0.  It worked fine there.  Now it has become a royal pain in the rear.

Answer:why does Microsoft want me to switch in metro to Microsoft account?

Nothing will change in your personal account, when you sign in as a microsoft account.  It will backup your profile, so if you end up buying a new machine, or having to reinstall Windows 8.x, everything will come back up on your computer as it was (desktop picture, user picture).  As for Metro, you do not need to use Metro, to run the Kindle App.

The best thing is to not use Metro, use the desktop, and load the desktop version of the Kindle app instead.  The only person making this a royal pita, is you, not Microsoft.

Hello, I was receiving an error whenever I attempted to install an application via the Microsoft Store after receiving my brand new Surface Book. I found a fix to my specific issue here. The relevant bits are:

Press Windows+R key to open Run boxEnter wsreset.exe in the Run command and then tap or click OK.Restart your computer and check.
If resetting Windows Store cache does not help. Try the below,
Method 2: Re-register Windows Store by running the following commands in a CMD window started as Administrator:
Follow the below steps.

Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell in the search bar.Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator. Then enter the chkdsk command

Note that typically used Powershell commands from build 10586 break things rather than fix them now. Frustrating.

Was at the Microsoft Store today and they had a Windows 8 preview on a Samsung tablet. Amazing is the last word I would use. It was incredible. No way this translates well for a desktop, but it certainly works well on the tablet. Not to say it won't be nice, just not the same great experience as on the tablet. Not to mention while I was there, one of the store reps greeted the customers to a demonstration, which I thought was pretty good marketing. Just thought I'd share.

Posting this here as both a question and FYI for anyone that may run into this in the future. Last November, I purchased Windows 10 Pro (full retail) from the Microsoft Store as a digital download. I found it strange that they did not send me a key, so no problem I'll just use Produkey to extract it and store it somewhere safe if I ever have to do a re-install.

Well fast forward to yesterday. I recently built a new system (specs in sig), and to make a long story short I went through LITERAL HELL with Microsoft to get this re-activated. The key I extracted from the previous install was blocked due to the hardware changes. I think.. oh ok, no problem.. I'll just activate by phone.... WRONG. It still failed. I ended up calling Microsoft support, got transferred 4 times, and finally got to a nice young lady that remoted into my machine and fixed the issue for me and got the system activated.

So upon further research.. Microsoft has changed the way they do the licensing a bit for Windows 10. I have what I believe is called a "digital entitlement" which is basically locked to the hardware it was installed on. At first they told me I would have to buy another copy of Windows 10 and I was furious and demanded a supervisor, at which point they realized I had bought a legitimate copy and proceeded with getting it activated. This may be old news for some, but posting my experience and what I uncovered anyhow.

So here's my question.. is the Produkey method ... Read more

Answer:Windows 10 Microsoft Store purchase - where's the key?

The product key is likely a generic key because as you said the licensing is done via digital entitlement. It's very similar to how product keys on OEM activated computers are basically generic, place-holder keys.

The nice part about digital entitlement is that you can reinstall without typing in a key, you just skip they key and if the system was already activated the new install will activate as well. The bad part, as you encountered, is that the store purchase, just like the free Windows 10 upgrades, you don't actually get a key if you want to move it (if you're even legally able to).

Regarding your issue, when you bought the 10 license originally did you see a EULA that mentioned transferring to a new computer?

I just tried to find some EULA information for the version of 10 purchased from their store and I cannot find any. I really don't know what the restriction is for transferring.

Hello.

Since I bought this computer, I've had issues. I started by creating a user with my personal email address, but then thought I wanted it for work so I deleted the Microsoft account associated with that email and created another with my work email. However, I've noticed that some of the apps aren't working correctly and needed to use my personal email again. For awhile, Microsoft accounts wouldn't allow deleted accounts from coming back but it appears it's working now.
So, now I have a Microsoft account with my personal email address but the primary user on my PC is still associated with the work Microsoft account. I can't find a way to change this and it's causing problems since that email doesn't exist anymore. Is there any way to change the Microsoft account that's associated with a single user?
The only other thing I could think of would be to create a new user, promote to admin, and swap everything over manually before completely removing the user associated with my old work email. I tried this, but when attempting to log into the new user it says "cannot login, please visit accounts.live.com to fix the issue". However, whenever I go there and log into the new users account, there's no instruction on what to do or any indication that there's something wrong.
So, I need to be able to do one of two things:
1) Switch the Microsoft account associated with the primary user on this PC or,
2) Find out how to log into the new user's account without any i... Read more

Answer:Windows 10 Microsoft Account replaced the local account

Hi Winexe,

If you don?t know the password you assigned to it, that Microsoft Account will forever hold your local account locked.

Luckily, your dual boot setup can save you here. You might not be able to login to your account again but you can recover your files and settings easily enough by activating the builtin Administrator account on the Windows 10 portion and using that account to access your files and delete the secured Microsoft Account.

Boot into Windows 7.Locate and delete ?\Windows\System32\sethc.exe? on the Windows 10 file system.Make a copy of ?\Windows\System32\cmd.exe? (on the Windows 10 file system) and rename it to ?sethc.exe?.Boot into Windows 10.On the user logon screen, press the shift key 5 times in succession. A Command Prompt should open on the logon screen.Enter net user Administrator /active into this Command Prompt.Reboot and at the login screen the Administrator account will become available.
You can now use this Administrator account to recover your files under ?C:\Users?.

While it is on sale for $1799 on the web site, it was marked at either $1399 or $1499 in the Scottsdale store. Sorry, I didn't pay too much attention, hence the statement it was one of those two prices. It, however, was certainly not a typo since all three demos had the same sales tag and they were definitely all the high end model.

Are there any ways to block the Microsoft store on Windows 10 Pro now that the official method by Microsoft was removed with the anniversary update? Or at the very least, is there a way to stop people from downloading and installing apps? Even though the user is logged on as a User, not Administrator, they can still install the app (but not traditional software executables). Is there a way I can maybe do this on the network level by blocking ports?

I do have some Enterprise licenses but I would rather not have to waste them if the computer already comes with Windows 10 Pro.

"Full of" may be a little strong (maybe not).
But you have to be careful where ever you shop. There is a post over at the JRiver Media Center forum about a guy RAMESH NAGALLA who is selling JRiver for $3.99 - and bunch of other programs that he doesn't own. Apparently he has a lot of software for sale (JRiver, Zoom Player, Tomb Raider, etc.) that he doesn't have licensing agreement for.

So Microsoft Windows Store team has identified these top Store issues and is working on to fix them. Microsoft appreciating the users patience is working on the details to determine and deploy fixes. It will be posted or informed as soon these are ready. (Source:meraTechPort) EDIT 14/08/2015 : Many users reporting that now they can download their stuck 'pending 'apps in Store..so seems Microsoft already fixing the glitches..no details yet from Microsoft.

I upgraded Windows 8.1 pro to Windows 10, the Microsoft Store only worked for once and then it would never get started, it quits each time I try to run it. I only cancelled a game download from the Store before this happened.

What is going on? Is there a solution to this?

I am a windows insider. I have been complaining about their "modern apps" failures for 6 months now. Most people tried to shut me up by saying they were test releases. But as we got closer and closer, I escalated more and more including Satya Nadella and Gabe Aul. They seemed to come out with bandaid fixes but never addressed the root cause. While the store is likely to stabilize over time, you can look forward to problems with other modern apps like "People", "Microsoft Money (Finance)", and other apps that are the ones generally supporting live tiles. Mail and calendar have not been resistant to this problem. While I suspect that data in your users/appdata folder is getting corrupted, windows folks in Redmond have been keeping mum about this issue. So sorry for your experience with Windows 10. I can tell you that classic apps seems to be pretty rock solid. In my opinion, only when Microsoft starts debugging with tracing and a sniffer on their network do they have a chance of resolving this. My experience is that they keep recoding and hope it goes away. Best of lu... Read more

Microsoft officials say the latest Windows 10 cumulative update fixes problems some users were having with Windows Store. What else is in it? We have no idea.

The newest cumulative update is KB3081438. The Microsoft Support page says nothing about the specific features and fixes that are new to this update beyond "This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10."

Answer:Microsoft's third Windows 10 cumulative update said to fix Store issues

"This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality"
Any update with a vague description like that should be considered suspicious. If I were offered an update worded like that for my windows 8.1 machine I would definitely refuse it, if they won't say what it is for it is either not important or not pleasant. Remember that this is the sort of language which was the wording used for the KB page of kb3035583 when it was first released (it's page has been updated since to give a more accurate description of what it does, but when that update first came out it's page was all vague like that).

Hi All,

I need help finding the folder for the games I downloaded from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10. It gets annoying finding games through the search tool and having them pinned to my taskbar would also be inconvenient. I would rather they were in a folder. Does anyone know how to get them all into one folder? I've tried..

Answer:How to find games I've downloaded from Microsoft Store (Windows 10)

If they are xbox app games they are listed and can be launched via the xbox app.

For a list of all your downloaded app games, click the store app, click your account photo on the upper right of your screen and click "my library", all your game downloads will be there, you can then click on a game and then click open to play it.

If a person has apps from the Microsoft store, do they have to be repurchased if you reinstall Windows 8 or are they like Apple's App Store where there is no cost to reinstall?

Answer:Microsoft store apps question on reinstalling Windows 8

Hello mwhals,

You will be able to reinstall your apps again from Your apps in the Store without having to repurchase them. Option One in the tutorial below can help show you how to if you like.

First, I am not sure whether this is the correct discussion, sorry if it is not.
The problem: Two days ago I bought the app Oxford Hachette French Dictionary from the Microsoft Store using their web page. I have confirmation that the payment has gone through and that I am the "owner".
I attempted to download the app, clicking on the button on the web page, whence Store opened. The app appears to have downloaded and Install starts, but then there is an error Code: 0x87AF000B. I have done this several times just in case.
In the "elevated" cmd prompt, I have entered
net stop wuauserv | move "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old" | net start wuauserv
then rebooted the computer. This made no difference to downloading the purchased app so I reversed what I had done. [ | is standing for carriage return or enter]
I ran WSReset.exe. The result was "ms-windows:store:PurgeCaches | Package could not be registered."
I'm scared to go further in case I make the situation worse.
Please would someone advise how to make MS Store downloads work.
Thanking you in advance for your answer/s
regards
JanetW

Hello, I do own a Microsoft Lumia 550 from the 30th of December '15 and I didn't have a problem with it since the last days, when I wanted to download from the Windows Store the app called "CSR Racing". It downloads until the end, it stays there 5 minutes and after that it shows up an error code. I did install a lot of other apps from the Store but it seems this one is the only one that doesn't want to install and to be ready to go. Can somebody help me with my problem?
P.S: The phone itself came with Windows 10 installed and I did do the phone update(s) and did install all app updates, I even did a factory reset to see if that solves the problem, but no luck there :(

OK, I've been sitting on a Win 8 Pro upgrade since last year when I bought the ridiculously cheap upgrade for future use. I installed Windows 8 Pro last week to upgrade my Win 7 machine. Some things are different, and take getting used to, but, overall, I am enjoying what it brings. However, after an automated upgrade the other day, I came to my PC with a need to login in. I noticed that it wants to login into my Microsoft account (which is fine for the Outlook.com email and the apps via the app store), but it no longer has a PC account for which I have, and need, a different password. I now have to login to my home server and resave my credentials.
Too me, this is a problem. Apparently, from what I have seen (PLEASE...if there is a way around this...let me know!) this is to facilitate the logging in to the app store. This is absurd. I have a separate password for my Microsoft account for a reason. If someone in my family needs to login to my PC, which I have generally allowed on my account (for simplicity sake), I have to fork over a password that I do not want to share. I don't understand why MS can't simply disable app store, outlook email, and restricted app access to the PC until a separate login occurs for those.
Anyone with any insight into why this is and if this is the same in 8.1, including any workarounds, would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to have to create another account on my PC, and then manage it, just to keep my passwords separate like this. I... Read more

I had to format and use a windows 7 media disk. But now need license as it is giving a black screen and message saying software is unlicensed  They are all fairly new (about 3 months old) and still under warranty and can default to windows 8.

Hi guys!

I'm having this problem since yesterday, and I can't find anyone with the same problem.
I have this problem where no microsoft applications work. I can't open Edge, Windows Store or Photos app. When I want to open them, there is absolutely 0 response. No error-message, nothing! When I observe the task manager while starting these apps, they DO appear for like, 1 second. They immediately disappear though.
I don't know what the issue is. I have this problem since I installed the application: SaferVPN (I already uninstalled it).
Ou yea, my Windows search doesn't work either. No reaction from the system at all.

I already tried running sfc /scannow.
My computer is up to date.
There were no windows updates involved at the point of time where the problem occurred.
I tried restarting windows several times.

I run Windows 10 for quite a long time now. Also, when I want to add a Microsoft Account, it give no response either. (I think thats because it usually opens a small Edge Browser Windows for entering the credentials.

Can you guys please help me? I usually find my solutions in already existing forums, but I didn't find anyone who had the same problem as me (perhaps I didn't google the right thing and couldn't find it because of that.)

Thanks for anything in advance.
Kind Regards,
Maarten

Came across this by accident after just watching a video. Haven't seen any post about it on this forums so, here it is. You simply press the following combination of keyboard keys, and Edge, or any other Windows Store application instantly enters full-screen mode:Ctrl + Win + Enter
Press the same combination of keyboard keys to exit full-screen mode, or hover you mouse pointer to the top right corner of your screen and click the exit full-screen button.
Not sure why this handy feature isn't readily accessible via a shortcut in Edge's overflow menu, but that's typical of microsoft...

I find it perplexing that Microsoft still hasn't considered adding the ability to share Windows Store apps between all accounts on a shared PC like a family desktop. There are several feedback items in the Feedback Hub calling for sharing options ranging from sharing apps across accounts added on the PC to sharing with accounts added as your family on all your PCs.
Consider a simple scenario. I own Quantum Break on the Windows Store through my Xbox One Pre-order. Now I would like to install the game on my family desktop and be able to have it playable on other user accounts on my PC. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't make this a straight forward process like it is on platforms like Xbox One or Steam. The only way you can do it is by adding all other accounts to your family and then changing the Windows Store account on all those accounts to my Microsoft Account.
I don't have to state how archaic this whole process is. Given how much Microsoft is promoting Xbox Play Anywhere these days, they really should focus on making these basic scenarios simple first. As it stands, I cant convince anyone in my circle of family and friends to invest in the Xbox ecosystem if it cant deliver these features which steam has had for years.

Answer:Why hasn't Microsoft implemented Windows Store app sharing between accounts on a single PC?

I'm sincere: first time I herd that. Accounts were created for differentiate people on the same machine, avoiding damages or interferences.
On desktops, when you install most apps / progs , if you choose Custom install instead of Fast, it will ask sooner or later "Applies on your account or all accounts"

This is puzzling me. I log in with a local account and disabled OneDrive in the group policy editor (along with most other standard stuff like WU/Telemetry (plus regedit)/etc). The only app I have ever logged in with was the Store (one time "this app only") then removed the account from settings.

So what is this and why is it always running? As the top process no less, occasionally spiking up to 5% CPU. If I kill it or reboot, it comes back. WWAhost.exe in details, folder from rightclick>properties is in the shot.

Answer:Why do I have a Microsoft Account task with no Microsoft Account?

This may help you: What is WWAHost.exe and Why is it Running?
In short, some Windows apps (like Weather) depend on something called Javascript and WWAHost.exe hosts the code.

I like the security and convenience of having an account with administrative privileges, which I only use for installing and changing critical settings and an account which I use for all other purposes, which does not have administrative privileges.

I would like to abandon Chrome, which allows me to synchronize my bookmarks and all other settings across all users in my Windows 10 boot and even in my logon to Windows 7 in the multi-boot of my desktop computer. Every single change I make in one Chrome browser instantly appears when I open the Chrome browser of any other logon. This is working perfectly across both of my Win 10 users and both of my Win 7 users of my multi-boot desktop.

I would like to be able to switch to MS Edge as my browser and have the same synchronization across both of my Windows 10 logons as I presently have with Chrome but this feature is not available in Edge unless both of my Windows 10 logons (that are on the same installation of Windows 10) are Microsoft User accounts. But Windows 10 won't allow me to have two logons with the same Microsoft account. It has only allowed me to have one of those accounts be a Microsoft account and the other a Local account.

Answer:Can I have two Microsoft Account Users with the same Microsoft account

I don't think you can have two user accounts on the same computer attached to the same Microsoft account because which one would get logged in at the login screen when you entered the Microsoft account credentials?

What I would do is create a local user account with the administrator privileges and not attach that to a Microsoft account. Then I would create my user account with only standard user privileges and attach that one to my Microsoft account. Whenever administrator privileges are needed to do something, Windows 10 should ask you to just select the account with administrator privileges, enter the password, and then you could complete the action requiring elevated privileges.

Under no circumstances would I use the hidden built in administrator account to do anything unless I had to in safe mode as a last resort.

I recently setup a new laptop for a relative running Windows 8 which I am not yet familiar with. She has set up her own user account with username/password.
I understand a Microsoft Account is also required which will enable her to have full access to Apps etc.
Can you explain in simple language how to do this. Is it done by adding another User Account? From what I have seen up to now it requires an email address and suggests a WLM email address which she has never had.
Can her own email address be used for this? If so does a seperate password have to be used?

Answer:Windows 8 Microsoft Account ?
