Why does storage space say I am using more space than I am using? (server essentials)

Question: Why does storage space say I am using more space than I am using? (server essentials)

I'm using storage spaces to combine a 2tb and 3tb drive. It is complaining that I am low on space but I'm not. This is server essentials 2012 and only thing on the drive is backups of my computers that it runs. Here is a pic so you can see what it is showing:

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a home network with a xp home and a 98se machine hard wired to a netgear mr814v2 router. I have a laptop running xp pro wirelessly. I have a problem accessing the xp home machine from the xp pro laptop. I can access a shared printer connected to the home machine.

I can ping all of the computer by IP and name. All of the shared folders and drives show on all of the computers.

I added the same user name and password to the computers.
When I try to copy a file to any shared folder on the home computer with the pro laptop I get these exact messages: Cannot copy "file name": Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

When I try to access a shared folder on the home computer from the pro computer I get this message: \\BASEMENT\Photos is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the adminstrator of this server to find out if you have access permisions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

The shared photo is on a 120 G hard drive that is empty.

Thanks Jerry

Help please! I did make a post on the Technet Forums not to long ago and [H]ardForums a few weeks ago just found this site today really hope some one out there can help me. I just copy pasted my Technet Forum post... Please help!

This is for a Windows 8.1 used as a Home Media Server, Every thing was working fine and then one day when I turned on the Server I was unable to access the Storage Space, and windows was telling me I needed to Format the drive. at first I thought some thing was wrong with ether the motherboard or a hard drive died. I moved the Storage Space Drives to a older system that I know works, and Was getting the Same Error. I reinstalled Windows 8.1, same error with Storage Space. The Manage Storage Space control panel was asking for me to add 2 more drives So I added them, Same error. Below are a few screen shots of what I think was important to show to get help. When I try to start the IIS admin service, it gives error code 8 not enough storage space is available to process this command, and the service won't start.

I've found one google result that has a guy and others trying to troubleshoot the problem but the thread ends with no solution. Any ideas at all? to be honest I don't know much about win 2003 server or IIS, I'm just trying to help someone out.

The server is pretty weak, it only has 1gb of ram, 7 gigs of harddrive space left.

What do you folks use to monitor disk usage on your file server? I was hoping for some widget-like program that displays the information in an elegant and succinct manner. I'm on XP, so no side-bar stuff.

TIA.

Answer:hard drive space / server space monitor

In the past I've used a little applet called Coolmon to monitor my PC. It's a text overlay that sits on your desktop.

Very simple and concise.

I created a Storage pool with the following setup. Three 3TB drives with parity all in an external enclosure with eSata and USB 2/3 ports. It was connected via USB when created and had production data loaded and tested without any issues.
After a few days of use I decided to see what happened when I tried to access it via the eSata port. No luck, due to a driver on the eSata card issue with Win 8. So I powered all back down and plugged back in via USB. At this point the Storage pool went
into the state as per the screenshot below. Any suggestions to either fix the issue and/or retrieve the data that is in the volume?

Hi,

I set the maximum shadow copy storage space to 8 GB in my Vista and thought I should never worry about the space in my system disk. However, I have just found the Used Shadow Copy Storage space is bigger than the Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space at the moment:

Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 10.326 GB
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 10.573 GB
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 8 GB

Do you know why and how to limite the Used Shadow Copy Starage space?
Thank you for any suggestions!

Answer:Used Shadow Copy Storage space is bigger than the Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space !

It would be helpful if you filled in the System Specs. That way if you post on another issue people answering don't have to ask the same questions about your hardware over again, or search for the post with the info. Just push the specs link in every one of your posts.

I'm not sure how they measure the space usage. But 8 GB sounds like only a couple of restore points. How big is the HD? I suspect when deciding to discard an old restore point it looks at the current usage. If under the limit, it keeps all the old and makes another. That's just a guess on my part. But you can try a few different max numbers and see how it acts for yourself. As Yogi Berra said, "you can observe a lot by watchin'".

OK, I've had this happen before, such as when I installed AVG AV. I know the trick for the IRPStackSize reg edit.

However, I am encountering more and more of this on my network on CPU's and drives that never did this before. Strangely enough, it may affect only some of the drives on a CPU and not others. I've tried all different settings for the StackSize value and it does no good. None of these CPU's has had AV on them as they don't sit on the web and are on a closed network. I had one CPU that was fine this morning and on the next reboot I could not share a video folder any more, but every other share off it worked fine. Anyone else encountering this?

Thanks.

Answer:"Not enough server storage space...this command" randomly; IRPStackSize not fixing it

i'd have to go dig up the details again but could you indicate:

- What operating system/service packs are installed on the machines
- What is is the CURRENT irpstacksize value you have (knowing, of course, you have to reboot for it take affect)

Initially, for a fix, i'd try resetting all sharing and reboot. The turn sharing back on.

and how many shares do you on defined on each machine?

Question: Storage space

I recently installed a 128 gig solid state HD. Soon after I started getting messages that I have no space to download updates to W10 or other software, i.e. Adobe, etc. Prior to this installation I had a smaller HD and experienced no problem whatsoever. I do not have every piece of software ever sold on my PC and am wondering, other than the obvious, to uninstall or remove my picture or I Tunes library what could be this sudden change.

Thoughts?

I have Windows 10 Pro I just installed on a Dell XPS with 12GB of Ram. I have 3 drives: My OS is on a Samsung SSD. My data is on a 3TB HDD partitioned into D: (Data) and E: (Video). I also have another identical 3TB drive. I used the latter drive as a mirror on Win 7 for my D: and E: drives. I removed the mirror prior to moving to Windows 10. Now all my data is in D: and E: on the ?Dynamic? Disk 2.

When I tried to create the Storage Space, the dialog only displayed the Disk 1 and would not let me do a resilient setup because I only had one drive.

Why am I unable to see my other data drive (Disk 2) in Storage Spaces? And, why does it show Disk 1 as a single drive instead of how I have it partitioned?

Answer:Storage Space cannot see all my HDD's

Hi, two (forgive me) very elementary questions:
a. can you confirm you can see your 2nd 3Tb drive in explorer? (Win 10 is now rather famous for losing drive partitions when installed, usually external drives, sometimes internal).
b. can you configure Storage Spaces when one drive already contains data?

Need advice. I've researched Storage Space in Win 8 and the gist is that Write's are slow. If there is anybody with experience, I would interested in their ex periences.
I have two identical Fantom GreenDrives at 1.5 TB each (I know, greedy. But hey, the price was right). Now I'm contemplating setting them in in mirrored config. I would use them as data storage. apps are elsewhere.
Now, the reality is that I very likely to work on a file many times before it is 'archived'. In the course where I'm working on file, do I have to go through a lengthily 'restore' process or can I just retrieve it and work on it?

Answer:Storage Space & Win 8

Hi

Don't know where you gained that write speed in Windows 8 is slow? please post a link to the advice you gained as for one I would find it useful to know what was written.

For me personally and I use SSDs for main drives but I do have 3 other HDDs and WD Green drives for 1TB and 2TB sizes and they all work perfectly quick in Windows 8.

Below are my main drive an SSD and the storage drive I have as in a WD 2TB drive speeds, now I could have used RAID for main drive but in this instance I did not see the need, but it would have increased speeds a bit.

In total on my main desktop PC I have 3.5TB of storage space.

2 questions:
1) Now, I cannot see the drive at all in Disk Management, though it shows up in Device Manager "This device is working properly."
2) Why was I unable to see my other data drive (Disk 2) in Storage Spaces?

Question: Storage Space?

Apologies if this isn't in the right area.
I recently got help from a brilliant guy on this site about reinstalling Windows 10.
Prior to doing this my Laptop seemed to always lack storage space! It has storage of about 30GB which I know isn't a lot, but it seems that 26GBs has already been taken up by god knows what!
And every time I turn on the computer and use it (general browsing) the memory storage gets lower and stops apps from running!
Can anyone give a look in to why? I've used programs to locate large files but it seems I need the files that aren't huge!
Any help?

At present I am running win 7 but expect to change to win 8. I understand the consept of UEFI and i am looking forward to installing win 8 when released to joe public, though I do need help before then especially on storage space

1) I have 4 internal hard discs (4TB) which i use at present will the system recognise these discs? or will I have to do something to them so that they are recognised?
2) What Hard disc would you suggest for main installation.

Any help you can give would be appreciated

Answer:storage space

Welcome to EightForums alexanderd

For storage 4TB is more than enough, but I do not have assurance to give you to the point that it is Windows 8 ready.

I'm currently running on a dual boot.

About the system requirements you can visit this link http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...-download.html

For the hard drive I suggest D: just leave Win 7 on your C: so that if you got in trouble from Win 8 you still have the Win 7.

And when you install make sure to have a Clean Install - Windows 8

Hi - I have a low spec notebook with Windows 10 preinstalled. Low spec is fine for my purposes but my 32 GB SSD is almost full and this seems to be stopping Windows from updating. Actually I have 7 GB of free space, which I assumed would be sufficient for the update but apparently not. But there is another related issue. When I check storage space under settings, there is 5.09 GB referred to as "other".

When I open this category, it reveals 7 folders and sizes:

These sizes hardly add to 5.09 GB so I investigated further...

When I open these folders and check properties, most of the sizes above are correct. The exception is C:\eSupport. Within this folder, there are two subfolders - 'eDriver' 1.51 GB and 'Manual' 217 MB. So this explains a portion of the 5.09 GB - perhaps - but where is the rest?

Can anyone tell me how to regain some or all of the 'phantom' 5.09 GB under the category of 'other'?

Answer:Storage Space Issue

I'm not sure on the other files, but if your device has a SD slot, you could pick up and SD pretty cheap and move some stuff over to free up space.

Hi forum,
I am very careful about keeping an eye on System Restore points but I think I may have made an incorrect move.

I recently made a "vssadmin" alteration to storage space on my main drive (C) to 3GB. I now appear to have a lost a restore point which backdated to 3 weeks ago when the PC was running perfectly. This only occured after the change. I know this point is now lost forever.
However to avoid this happening in future at what figure should this be set in future.? Some recommend 30% of free space on the drive which, in my case, would be around 50GB. All the other recommendations say 3GB. Very puzzled by all this and would appreciate assistance. I like to keep points dating back a while as a precaution.

You are very wise system restore is the best feature of Vista. I always keep as many as possible.
System Restore: frequently asked questions
System Restore - disk space

As long as you meet the minimum required space you can make the space used as large as your needs require.

See post by our leader and very respected member regarding the OS
System Restore - disk space

Again meet these requirements then you can make as large as you want to be comfortable

Reading your post indicates that you are like me, very conservative with your computer. Why not download the free Macrium Reflect and make a copy of your hard drive, then update once a month

Does Storage Space have a known issue with 3TB drives? I ask because I've run into this problem with Windows Server Backup in Windows Server 2008. I thought Microsoft would have rectified this issue with their latest OS release...

Any help / advice will be appreciated.

Answer:Can't add drive to Storage Space

I've seen similar reports, but the issues were caused by the disk controller. The drives had the same Unique ID, and that's what had Storage Spaces confused.

Check it in PowerShell and post results:

Code:
Get-PhysicalDisk | ft FriendlyName, UniqueId -auto

Hi there,

I know this will sound like a silly question, but is there any 'free' storage space on the web for uploading files too, that can then be accessed by anyone (i.e un password protected like drop box) and can have a file structure?

I only need 50mb but everywhere has to link to a download page first or have to have a user id to sign in with ect :/

I know the answer is most likely NO without paying for it, but as were a bunch of students its not really an option right now

thanks anyway

I'm not sure you're going to get an answer until third parties have full access and an opportunity to do development. At the very least they will most likely have to release new versions of their utilities to update them from Win 8.

Open windows explorer (should be that little folder icon on the taskbar if you haven't gotten rid of it). Once opened select "This PC" from the left hand side. It should give you what you're looking for. Now I just need to figure out how to have it bring me here by default....

My laptop does not have enough storage space to download any thing.  I purchased an external hard drive to download statistics software for school and that downloaded successfully onto the My Passport (external hard drive).  However, I need to run the program by using the installation wizard and the computer will not allow me to install it on the external drive, it keeps prompting me that my C drive does not have enough disk space.  I kno this which is why I have installed the my passport drive and it will not let me change the destination of where I want the file to go.

Answer:Storage space issue

@thomas_07 You're not going to be able to completely install any apps onto an external drive. That's because the installation involves creating lots of different files, including making changes to the Registry, and those all reside on your "C" drive. What you CAN so is use app settings to ensure that large DATA files get written to and stored on an external drive, but that depends on each app and what it allows.

Question: disk space storage

Have recently bought an Omen 15=ax202na 1tb laptop. My previous laptop is also an HP Pavillion 6. I'm in the process of transferring all my data from the Pavillion to the Omen. I've hit a major issue with the storage. One of the reason I bought the Omen was for gaming, the other was for the 1tb storage space. On my old Pavillion I have 2 storage locations with Drive C having the bulk of the storage space and then Drive D for recovery. My new Omen however has 3, Drive C which only has 119GB and is on Disk 1 and then Drive D has 920GB and Drive E has 11.3GB. Both Drive D and Drive E are on Disk 2. I really need all that 920GB storage space on Drive C not on Drive D, How do I access all that storage and what was HP's logic in this set up on a gaming machine? I really need to some serious technical help, because at the moment I'm beginning to think I've spent 829.99 on a machine I'm not going to be able to use for what I bought it for!

Hi, Your machine has 2 physical drives      http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=1AN98EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB 1. Disk 1 is SSD which is C: to store Windows and programs/apps. Please avoid to store your data/files on it, it is small and can be filled up very fast . Some apps allow you to install on other drive. 2. Disk 2 has 2 partitions     D: You can use it to store your data (musics, videos ...) on it. You can also store some apps which allow you to install outside C:    E: Recovery partition: please do not touch it, you may need it one day to rebuild your machine. Vendors (including HP) won't supply DVD's for OS and drivers, they use Recovery partition. Hope this helps. Regards

I noticed recently I've been losing gigabytes of storage. I did a scan with jdiskReport and this was the result.

According to that I'm missing more than 100 gb of space.

What could be causing this issue?

I know that windows 10 will take up 16GB of space on the hard drive. But is this space on top of the current amount that is taken up by the system or is it the total. So with my 32GB tablet will I need 16GB of space free to upgrade or is it that there will be 16GB free when it has upgraded?

Hi! I bought a new laptop and I seem to notice that every time I use it, the storage space decreases by 5 gigs or more depending on the length of use. I use ccleaner but the storage space is still decreasing even though I haven't installed or downloaded any resource hog. There's also no virus since it's newly bought and I scanned it.

Your help/answers will be greatly appreciated.

My hard drive has a capacity of 465 GB. I've run WinDirStat and it says that there are only 228 GB worth of files on my hard drive. Windows, however, states that I only have 62 GB free. This leaves about 175 GB unaccounted for.

I tried defragmenting my disk, but it didn't help. I also ran disk clean up and deleted all the restore points/shadow storage, but that also didn't make a difference. I ran the command line "vssadmin list shadowstorage" to double check, and it says that shadow storage is only taking up about 3 GB.

Here are some pics of storage management in "my computer", WinDirStat results, and a window showing disk usage for restore points.
View image: Screen Shot 1

I'm at a lost as to where the space is being taken up. Any help will be appreciated.

EDIT: WinDirStat is showing 172 GB of unknown space. What can this be? I'm running a full disk check now, as another thread with a similar problem found this to be the solution.

Heres a pic: View image: Untitled

EDIT 2: The disk check did nothing...

Answer:175 GB of unaccounted storage space

Do you use Avast anti-virus?

Do you use System Restore?

Try using another app such as TreeSize Free edition to see what it says about what is occupying space.

At work we have some older computers running on XP. They all have bout 40GB hard drives and are all running out of space, bout half gig left.
When you click on the "windows" folder in My Computer/C:/ and chose properties it says that the folder contains 34GB, but when you enter the folder, select all files (including hidden files) it comes to a total size of 3.69GB. I was just wondering where the other 30GB is???

It is a bit confusing cause there are not many programs or files saved on the local harddrive, most programs and files are saved on the company server so the local hardrive shouldn't be full. 40GB should be more then enough. Some help please????

I've had issues with the amount of storage on my phone for a few weeks now, which is odd considering I literally only have 4 apps on my phone and all my music and photos are saved to a 32GB SD card. (I used to have more apps and a bunch of games, but I couldn't update anything since I ran out of space, so I deleted almost everything.)
Whenever I look at storage check, there's lots of app data taken up by the settings which accounts for almost all of the storage taken up by apps. Does anyone know how I can sort this out so I can stop only having about 30KB free?

Answer:Lumia 520 Storage Space

I would guess you're suffering from the 'Other Storage' issue. This has been a problem with WP since day one. Usually caused by WP holding on to files no longer needed and since there really isn't a cleanup app this is what keeps happening.
You'll need to hard reset your phone to clear this mess. Be sure to back up before you do.

I don't have a problem just a few questions: 1) Thinking about which MP3 player I should buy- If I make a copy over and over again from the original MP3, will that degrade the original MP3 over time (or Copies) or dose it not matter how many times you copy it to transfer to an MP3 player. 2) will said copy work O.K. in an MP3 Player or do you have to use an original (i'm just right clicking then select copy then paste) and 3) I have windows XP, how can I tell how much space I have left. I appreciate your help.

Tiffany

Answer:Solved: MP3's and Storage Space Question

Copying an mp3 file will not degrade it. Quality loss comes from converting it to another format, or lowering the bitrate, changing it in effect. Each change will degrade it. You can copy it as many times as you like with no problem.
You can use the original or the copy in your mp3 player. A copy is identical in all ways to the original apart from it's creation date.
Go into my computer, right click your hard drive, properties to see how much space is left.

Hello everyone, I'm obviously brand new to the forums so I hope this is the right place for this. I should start with my type of drive; I have a 120gb Cherryville SSD from Intel serving as my C: Drive. Just the other night I had approximately 43GB left in my C: Drive (note this is incredibly low as well, but I was content). Last night I checked again and saw that I was down to 25! I performed a disk defrag and that actually decreased my storage to 23! I am absolutely puzzled as to the cause of this.

The only thing I have done between the time that I had over 40 and last night was update my visual BIOS (having nothing to do with my C: Drive at all) and download a simple XML update for Microsoft Expressions (which was measured in kilobytes). Granted I have done my fair share of updating .net framework and various other updates, but all of my major programs are on my hard drive, not my SSD.

To put this into visual perspective, I'd like to share a photo showing around 25GB of space taken that is absolutely nowhere to be found, I find it hard to believe that Windows and a few programs can take up nearly 90GB of storage. Any advice/ideas?

Answer:Inexplicably Low C: Drive Storage Space

Well I can't tell you what is filling up your SSD but what I can tell you I know of no SSD manufacture that recommends defragging a SSD.

In the Storage Pool section, I get this error message:
Drive or Storage Space issues; Check Physical Drive and Storage Spaces sections.

In the Storage Spaces section, I get this error message:

Error Inaccessible; check the Physical Drives Section

In the Physical Drives section, all 4 2T drives are checked as okay and have either 49.6% of their capacity used or 49.8% of their capacity used.

These drives are in a 4 disk enclosure that can be attached either by eSATA or USB 3.0. I get the same error under either attachment method.

I am guessing that the virtual disk information, metadata, is corrupt and the data on the four drives is not recognized as a storage pool any more. The device manager shows the disks individually, and the storage pool. is not recognized. In the Storage Spaces section of the Control Panel, the storage pool is recognized, but inaccessible.

Since the data on the disks appears to be good, is there a way to rebuild the virtual disk data. Parity is the redundancy method.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

MSN Hotmail Joins Storage Race
By Matt Hicks
June 23, 2004

Microsoft on Thursday will make official its plans to join the Web-based e-mail storage wars by increasing storage for users of its MSN Hotmail service.

Free MSN Hotmail users will be gaining 250 megabytes of storage, up from 2MB today, while premium users, for $19.95 a year, will be receiving 2 gigabytes of storage, MSN will announce.

MSN's move follows a firestorm of activity in the Web-based e-mail world after Google Inc. in April entered the market with a test version of its free Gmail service that provides a gigabyte of storage.

Yahoo Inc. last week beefed up its e-mail storage limits, increasing storage for free users from 4MB to 100MB and offering paying customers 2GB inboxes.

But not all of MSN Hotmail's 170 million users will get the storage increase immediately. MSN plans to roll it out over time, starting in July in the United States. Paying users of its Hotmail Premium service will receive the extra storage first, MSN director Lisa Gurry said.

"Our primary goal is to make sure to keep service stable while also introducing the additional functionality," she said.

Yahoo faced performance hiccups with the launch of its expanded e-mail service.

Gurry said MSN Hotmail increased its storage caps "to take storage out of the consideration set" as the Web-based e-mail market shifts, as well as to meet new demands from ... Read more

Hi everybody,
I'm running on Windows 8.1.
Set storage space with parity and 3 disks 2Tb 1Tb and 500Gb.
The 500Gb went wrong so I add a 2Tb, the space seems to repair by itself.
Everything seems ok to me and i remove the 500Gb.

But now some files are missing, directory structure seems ok, but some folders are empty.
Is that possible something went wrong with repair or remove disk
Is there a powershell command to reassign the 500Gb to the storage pool and recover data
pretty sur that drive is not dead but just went to sleep)
Thanks for your help

Answer:files are missing in storage space

Some files have been missing since you remove the 500GB disk. I suggest you clone all the patitions on 500 GB disk to your 2 TB disk. I think there should be enough free space on the 2 TB disk. To do that you may need to shrink the partition on the 2TB with Windows disk management to create unallocated space. right click My computer--Manage-Disk Management

I'm using a storage space for a two-way mirror of two 4Tb drives as D: drive. C: is a completely separate 128Gb SSD, and the page file and TEMP folder are on a second SSD. I set the storage space up initially under Windows 8.1 Pro x64, and it worked without any problem, but after performing the in-place upgrade to Windows 10, I find that the machine becomes pretty much unusable for the first few minutes after bootup and login because the D: drive is at 100% utilisation, with average response time for D: (as shown by task manager) being up around several seconds. The I/O on the disk while this is happening is not high at all - a few Mb/sec is all that Task Manager shows for read and write speed on D:, which is only a few percent of the maximum throughput that the drive can support when running normally.

After a few minutes, whatever is thrashing the disk ceases and the machine performs after that with no problems. The machine is being shut down cleanly, so the mirrored disks should not be out of sync when it is started, which is the only reason I can think of (other than a bug) for why the disks are being thrashed in this manner. Any suggestions on what could be causing this?

p.s. I should add that when I check the storage space using Control Panel / Storage Spaces, both the storage pool and the two-way disk mirror are indicated as being fine with no problems, and when I check system messages from bootup in the event log, there is only a four second gap between the first mes... My original goal for my Server was to have one giant Storage Pool with separate folders for Videos/Pictures/Documents/VM img/etc... After using this model for the past year, I have found some operational deficiencies with this methodology. For starters with one Storage Pool that meant I would have 16HDD's spinning 24/7 which is an excessive waste of energy and component lifecycle. Another issue was heat, when these HDD's were all in my desktop case I actually had to remove the side cover and cool them with a 12" desk fan (Ive since moved to a Norco 4224).
My new goal is to break up the server into 4 separate Pools. The problem comes in when I'm trying to dismantle my huge Storage Space and reallocate the HDD's to a completely separate Storage Pool. FYI Storage Spaces is not designed to reduce drives/capacity, it only works great when adding drives/capacity. Currently I have shuffled some drives around and managed to separate the main folders into their own Storage Pools. After I copied all the data from my original Storage Pool to the new, I would then delete the original files (10+TB) on the original Pool. Here's the bug; The files would be deleted from the Storage Space (the virtual disk), but the space would NOT be released from the Storage Pool.
What I mean by that is, my Storage Space (E:\ drive) shows that it only has 8TB of files (since the Pool is in parity that would take up 12TB in the storage pool) However, my Storage Pool (made up of 12HDDs) is sh... Read more

We set up roaming drives for each of the teachers here in this facility yesterday so that they could access files no matter which computer they logged in to. Some of the teachers now receive an error message stating that they have exceeded their profile storage space. All of my research thus far has indicated that they have more files being stored in there than the allowed limit is but the problem is that we did not set a limit on the amount of data that could be stored. The other problem with that theory is that there is nothing in their personal drive on the network yet. Hey,

I'm running Vista x64 and I remember around the time vista came out there were a couple of threads saying system restore, and another related (perhaps vista exclusive) back up were eating massive hard drive space. I have noticed my hard drive space dwindling, and I can't see any logical reason. If anyone could just tell me which windows services I need to check I'd appreciate you helping me narrow down the search.

The other thing that I think might be taking up space is nero backups. I remember stumbling across a 60-something gig file that had backed up every dvd I'd ever made. Does anyone know where nero backups go by default?

Thanks.

Answer:Vista backups storage space

I don't have any answers for the System Restore part, because I shut that off right away.

As for Nero, I don't use the backup program, but if you are talking about disc images, from your DVDs, then you can simply search for .nrg files to delete, assuming they aren't needed any longer.

Two years ago my computer was delivered new with the operating system (Windows Me) and other programs already loaded. I have a 40 Gb hard drive and the Windows Me and other programs left 36.9 Gb available space at that time.I have only added a couple of A-Z and AA route type programs which in total take up much less than 1 Gb of hard drive space. I don’t play games and use the computer for text files, surfing the web and not much else. I sometimes download web files most of which I eventually delete via the recycle bin.All of my text files plus the web files that I have not deleted in total take up less than 100 Mb of space. I regularly housekeep via Disc Cleanup, Scan Disc and Disc Defragmenter, as well as doing regular virus checks. Can anyone explain then how it is that my hard drive is now showing only 29.9Gb of available space? How to remove those files. when connected to PC nothing showing. In storage check system OS memory is 1.9GB but in Storage sense it shows 3.1GB. Why this difference and how to erase memoery occupied in others.

Answer:Why my phone storage taking more space in 720?

The "Others" includes "everything else" (the "other" stuff) on your phone that doesn't belong to the known storage categories. Files in the "other" category are usually created by apps and services on the phone and cannot be deleted by the user. Some examples of "other" files include the database for your phone contacts and the files temporarily storing the latest from your social network newsfeeds. Here's the basic formula we use to calculate it:
total storage capacity ? size of storage categories ? free storage space = "other"
If you want to erase the content of Others in SD card then format the SD card.(Backup your stuff before formatting).
Format the Card by connecting it to PC.
If u want to get rid of "Others" present in the internal memory then do a hard reset.
Caution: Hard reset will erase everything that is present on your phone i.e: apps, images, music, contacts, etc.
If u want to do hard reset then enable backup in your phone(sms and app list) and then only proceed with hard reset. After the hard reset add you Microsoft account and all other account linked to your phone and sync them.
Note: all the apps will have to be downloaded again.

Hi all - first post!! ^_^

Problem: I am getting a popup window that says I have exceeded my profile storage space and I need to remove files and put them on local or network storage....When I shutdown my computer and reboot, after I log in, 9/10 times the screen will just be blank with a cursor. When I succeed in restarting successfully and get to my normal screen, the pop-up is there.

I read a thread posted a couple months back on this forum explaining how to get rid of the pop-up by making that .reg file in text...I did that, but the pop-up window keeps coming back, I immediately thought it had to be malware.

Upon running malwarebytes as prescribed by another thread, I got the following info in the log:

I apologize if this is not in the correct forum.

I have a storage space on my personal computer that consists of 3 drives. My storage space is setup as parity. Last night I rebooted my machine and allowed it to install new Windows Updates and this morning when I came back to my system it had rebooted and my storage space has died!

As you can see in the image, this is my current status. 2 of my 3 drives are showing this warning status and the storage space has been rendered inaccessible. I am very skeptical that both of those drives actually physically became inoperable at the same moment and I do not hear any clicking or other signs of hardware failure. I desperately want to recover the data from my storage space but I am unsure how to proceed safely and I don't want to make things worse than they already are. If I can even just bring the storage space online long enough to copy the data off to another source that would be perfectly fine.

I've tried running Repair-VirtualDisk in Powershell with admin rights but it seems the job does nothing. When I run Get-StorageJob I can see the repair op in the list and just instantly appears as "Completed".

Can anyone provide me with some guidance?

hi,
got a 40GB 2.5 samsung h/disk, after formatted to NTFS,
show 37.24GB and 66MB used. only 1 hidden system folder remain System Volume Information but couldnt access. System restore is turn off for the 2.5" harddisk. But how can it still occupid 66MB after formatting?

Answer:Unaccessible occupied storage space

The NTFS MFT occupies space on the drive, this is normal. The 37.2gigs is also normal, since disk manufacturers think a gigabyte is 1,000,000,000 bytes.

I have a Mac Mini 2012 and a Macbook Air and I want to download World of Warcraft (40Gb) on both so me and my friend can play simultaneously. I've got World of Warcraft downloaded on one but there's not enough storage space for it on my Mac Mini. I've tried deleting some files but I can't delete most of them because they may be important files belonging to my dad. I have a 128Gb SD card which could work but the Mac Mini doesn't seem to be able to pick it up. I poked in the SD slot with some paper and managed to dislodge some fluff but the Mac Mini still can't pick up the card, how can I get it to work so I can download the game?

I recently purchased an HP Stream laptop with 30G of hard drive storage space. This has quickly filled up and now there is no longer any space in order for Windows 10 updates to be implemented. What I don't understand however, is that hard drive space seems to have been eaten up by pretty much nothing but OS data! I have 0 pictures, 0 documents, 0 videos and 0 downloads on the hard drive. And only a handful of songs in my music folder. When I have run software to identify what is taking up all of the space on my hard drive, it states that Windows is occupying the most space at 23GB! This seems to be far too high? The remaining space is taken up by several small programs. I have inserted a 32GB mini SD card into my laptop to act as additional storage, however I can't move Windows or any other OS data onto this. It doesn't seem to recognise the SD card as an additional drive. When I have attempted to remove Windows incase that is the problem, I am informed that there is insufficient space to do so as it temporarily requires approx. 5GB to do so. As a result, I am stuck with a laptop which has only 232mb of storage left on the hard drive and no apparent way to increase this or remedy it. Grateful for any assistance that you can provide! Thank you

Answer:Laptop has inexplicably run out of storage space

my Windows folder (Win10) takes up 25.5GB's, so your 23GB is about right.the the 3 Program Files folders add to 10.5GB.so there's your 30GB blown without even thinking about anything personal let alone room to grow.look into turning off or reducing your pagefile, hibernation file, Recycle Bin size, Restore Points allocation etc.check you have no Windows.old folder, if so, remove it with the inbuilt cleanmgr program from an elevated command prompt.get and run CCleaner from here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds [/font]and see how much space it reclaims.but in short, 30GB was never going to cut it and you would have eventually been in this predicament at some time.

I have a z800 Workstation that currently has  2 - 2TB mirrored HDD's and 512 GB SSD program file drive.  I tried to install to WD 6 TB Black HDD and the maximum capacity I can get out of them is 1.5TB each.  Can this machine handle these two WD HDD's? I have talked to WD and they went through their usual protocal changing the drive initialization to gtb, but that yielded no change.  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:z800 Maximum storage space

Hi, WD people should know how because they make the product. Please check their forum:         https://community.wd.com/t/6tb-red-win-7-64bit-only-recognizes-1-5gb/17502/4 Regards.

My Windows mobile phone have been running slow few weeks ago. I have been using this for 4 yrs. I have installed programs or store most of my files in the storage card. However, I have noticed each time I deleted some items in my storage or deleted messages the storage capacity becomes low, thus giving me no idea why it says the storage capacity is critical..i have even deleted the IE files and deleted some of my unused programs. I restarted it, but it still the same. I tried texting message but it can not be sent.

Can u help me get through this?

Hi! I don't know where to post this. I'm running disk defragmenter and noticed that my local disk size is reduced by 40Gb when I didn't download anything. Is there anyway of resolving this?

Thanks a lot. Merry Christmas!!!

Answer:Storage space reduced after defragmentation

I wish there was a clear answer to your question, but as my best guess, it may be to do with shadow copies and how the Vista defragmenter has trouble with those. To get your space back, deleting all the restore points by resetting system restore (turn it off, reboot, and turn it back on) may help.

For the future, you can also try to defrag with a 'smarter' shadow copy-aware third party automatic defragger; it may minimize the loss of space due to shadow copy activity.

I am not 100% certain about all of the above, hence the liberal use of 'may' instead of 'will/is'.

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to post this solution to a problem I've noticed a lot of Lenovo users (particularly with the lower end, lower storage space computers, are having.) I bought my IdeaPad 110s the other day on sale at best buy for 150 bucks! I know it wasn't going to be the fastest or greatest laptop ever but I certainly wasn't expecting the annoying issue I had of not even being able to update windows because there wasn't enough storage... and yet I hadn't even installed any other additional software.  In almost every single other post I have seen the simple use of disk cleanup (which, doesn't seem to take into account the fact that I needed about half my hard disk space reclaimed.) Sorry for the predlude, here's the real solution: 1: Get a USB drive (Preferably 3.0 and 32gb or more)2: Plug it into a USB 3.0 port (the USB port with blue on it)... trust me, on these low-end computers it makes a huge difference.3: Make sure its formatted fat32 4: In the search box on the bottom of your screen, type in Create a Recovery Drive, click it and follow the instructions. Make sure you check the box that says include system files! (This will take a while. So don't think your PC is freezing.)5: On some systems, at the end of this process, it will give you the option of clearing the system files off the pc. In my case, it did not. Here, I further wondered why I had 1 GB of free space left.... Well, its located in a folder... Read more

Hi everyone, Any suggestions for me. I have the 735 model that as you are all aware, has a max of 8 Gig of storage space. I've moved pretty much all of the applications to the SD card. The space used on the main phone is;
System files: 3.36 GB
Other: 230.68 MB
Email / messaging 73.44 MB
Music: 94.13 MB
Total space used 4.17 GB
I'm concerned that the phone will start to lock up or have some re-boot issues if I start to consume 5 - 6 GB or more.
Any ideas of reducing the total space (i can remove the music no problem) No pictures are stored on the phone only on One-Drive.
Thanks

Hello, I have had my N500 (4233-74G) for nearly 3 weeks now, and one thing I noticed a few days ago is that I appeared to have lost nearly 90GB of space on my hard drive. Up to now I have lost almost 120GB, 12 of which disappeared yesterday and 2 in the last 30 minutes. I have found a previous post highlighting this issue, I have gone through what has been said by turning the scheduled back ups off and also automatic backup is off. One thing I cannot see though is any previous back ups made, so I am stuck to whether it is that that is causing the problem. I have also run my antivirus and checked for spyware, all of which has come up with nothing. If anyone has any idea as to what this may be, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. -Pete

It's IMMENSELY slow. I was having loading problems and all sorts of mess trying to get the Storage Space to load my game.

Also Driver: San Francisco seems really uncooperative with Windows 8. Even the installer I had to tell to run in Windows 7 mode (and then it wouldn't start, though that might be related to the above issue).

Answer:Something I learned is never run a game on a Storage Space

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. While I would not expect it to make things better than a single drive, I would not expect it to make things worse.

What is your storage spaces config like? How many drives, what type of stripe setup?

I get this when downloading files in JDownloader.

This computer is really starting to annoy me, I want to throw it out the window.

I am running Windows 7 on a dual core with 4GB of ram and a 1.5TB hard drive that has roughly half of it's space free.

Answer:not enough storage space to process this command

Where is the program trying to save the downloads? Is your hard drive partitioned?
