About to install win 8 on gaming pc - Origin question

Question: About to install win 8 on gaming pc - Origin question

Hi. as teh title says i am going to install win8.

i currently have steam and origin hosting most of my games as well as guild wars 2.

With GW2 and steam. i have them on a seperate hdd and can simply run the steam and gw2 app after installing win 8 and it will auto update/setup both ready to play instead of having to redownload all my steam games and gw2 game.

Now my question is, can i do the same with Origin? if so, how?

I do not want to redownload all my games again

Preferred Solution: About to install win 8 on gaming pc - Origin question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: About to install win 8 on gaming pc - Origin question

Id totally avoid windows 8, it's a night mare. I got my 40$ refunded from Microsoft through customer support.

Hi, can someone please help as EA aren't helping me!

Origin was working fine until yesterday. Then it came up with this error code:

The procedure entry point _except1 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program\Origin\Origin.exe.

So I uninstalled Origin, several times and followed EVERYTHING they told me to do, manual uninstall, do it with no anti virus etc. I even tried to download from a third party website, which did progress more in the installation but still failed with even more error messages!

I have had Microsoft access my computer and they have also tried everything and have confirmed that nothing at all is wrong with my laptop (which is what EA was trying to say).

Its really frustrating now and I hope someone can help please!

I have a Toshiba laptop and I am running windows 10.

It was compatible with windows 10 as it was working for a week or so. It did keep crashing but I changed screen resolution and was fine.

I will appreciate any help, Thanks!

Answer:Does a install of Windows 10 Affect Steam or Origin in anyway?

You need to clarify what the issue is and what you did to bring about said issue.

I don't think it's a lack of coffee that's causing me to not understand, as I've just about finished my pot.

I'm having issues steam origin or uplay on secondary hd i have never had this issue on windows 7. I did a full fresh install to windows 10 and i'm having this error were i cant delete or run steam or origin or uplay or run any games from my 2nd hd i am on the administrator account.
Please help me.

Answer:Cant install steam origin or uplay on secondary hd

Exactly what error message are you getting? We need more info other than "I can't delete" and "I can't run"
When you go to install these (Steam, Origin, and Uplay), are you choosing to install them (the game hubs themselves) to the secondary drive? Also, in each service's settings (Steam for example) there's settings to choose where to install the games.
Maybe you could try starting over. Right click on the Start button and choose "Programs and Features" at the top of the list. Then scroll down the list, right click on Steam and uninstall. If it won't uninstall it from here, then you'll have to manually remove the Steam folders. (The default location is c:\program files\steam) Then run the installer again, paying attention during the install process, and choose your secondary HDD for the install location. This applies to Steam, as well as the others (Origin, Uplay, Epic games, etc) I have them all installed as well, with many games installed on different drives and have zero issues.
If you still have problems, there's tons of help to be found on the Steampowered site. Here's an example; moving an existing Steam installation to a different drive location.
I hope some of that helps. We're more than happy to help you here, but need more info to work with. Let us know how it goes!

For Firefox on Win 10:
Have been very happy with UBlock Origin
Also have Privacy Badger Plug-in now
And now, with KIS installed there is the 'Private Browsing' browser plug-in.
Do they all pretty much do the same thing? Block tracking by social networks, web analytics, etc?
I assume that if they do, issues may result with multiple types running.
Should I disable the KIS plug-in and stick with UBlock O? Also, someone mentioned that they keep UBlock and Badger running and that one catches what the other misses...

Hey guys, I'm a huge gamer but I know very little about pc hardware, a guy wants to sell me his gaming pc (or atleast he says it's good for gaming) for around $600 and I just wanted to know if I'm getting a decent deal. I play games like the witcher, some mmo's and shooters (although I stick to my consoles for shooters)

AMD Phenom II x4 820 Deneb Processor with 4mb level 3 cache.
Gigabyte motherboard with 880 chipset, onboard hdmi, and expandable to 16gb of memory.
Cooler Master Hyper TX3 HSF.
4 gigs of A Data ddr3 1333 memory. Latency 9.
XFX HD5770 video card with 1gb GDDR5 dedicated memory.
600 watt power supply with single 36 amp 12v rail, 80+ efficiency, dual pci-e connectors, and three year warranty.
1tb Seagate Barracuda sata hard drive.
Very nice Cooler Master Elite 430 case with clear side window, bottom mount power supply, 3 120mm led fans, and bays available for 3 more fans.
24x sata dvd burner.
Media card reader.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit operating system.

Answer:question about a gaming pc

Yeah I'd say $550-$600 is fair for that setup. New would probably be higher just due to the cost of Win 7.

It will come as no surprise to regular forum users that I am sadly lacking in knowledge where games are concerned. This has been highlighted today by my son, who came for lunch. He has just acquired 'Battlefield Vietnam', and eager to try it has spent fruitless hours attempting to get it to run on his machine. He has a reasonable well specified computer but can't get the game past the loading stage. He says the game tells him it's loading, there's a loading bar across the bottom of the screen which moves right to the end, some music starts to play and then...........the display flicks back to the Windows desktop.I'm of no use to him at all - has anyone got any ideas?

1) star wars knights of the old republic
2) X2 The Threat

Now, I have suggested him to grab the Radeon 9600XT card, but it can only be running at 4x since his mobo only support up to 4x.
Will that fix the problem? Or should he grab more rams as well?

Definitely go with the vid card upgrade....I think you will see a world of difference. And if your gonna spend the money...why not get a better mobo and an AMD processor. AMD is geared more for gamers anyway. Good luck!!

Question: PC gaming Question

im about to invest heavily on a pc rig able to play ne game on the market at this time but iv grown up only playing gaming systems never realy cared for the computer but with all the new systems getting IMO crapier and breaking down after a few mounths of hard core gaming and haveing to replace a hole system iv decided to move to a computer wich iv heard is the best gaming system ne ways and for the fact i can replace a 50$ thing instead of a 200$ thing but since i have grown up with a controller in hand i just cant get used to the keyboard in a gaming i cant type fast but that dont mean Nothing in a game so my question is.

if i were to buy a controller found one on a site called newegg that lol lookes like a ps2 controller. if i could hook that up and just use the controller and it work the same?

and on a side note im going to build my computer and i was wounder if some one can post some top of the lines parts i can use from the mother board to the soundcard and every thing in between i look at newegg and some of these items i cant tell wich is better then the other

Answer:PC gaming Question

Logitech (among others) make a gamepad very similar to PS gamepads, called RumblePad.

There is a cordless version, and one without force feedback if you don't like it.

If you don't like using the keyboard, Belkin do the Nostromo n52, which is awesome.

Takes a few days to get used to, but once you do, you'll never go back.

As far as the PC is concerned, an AMD board with an nForce 4 or 430 chipset, coupled with 1GB + or RAM, and an AMD 64 3800+ or better would be ideal.

How much money do you have to spend, and is gaming your main requirement?

I have networked 2 PCs (winxp and win98) using a linksys router BEFSR41 ver.2. My question is:

- how do i play lan games?
- Is there any other protocol that needs to be installed?

Sorri for these silly question, i can still a basic in those networking stuff.

Answer:LAN gaming question

Since there are a variety of games out there that you can play, online or over your own LAN, the best solution I can think of is to read the documentation the manufacture of the game provides either in the booklet or online.

Short of that, if you have any questions on specifics on how to set something up, after consulting the documentation from the manufacture, feel free to drop another line or two.

Good luck,

Answer:Lan Gaming Question

At a minimum you need to also buy a cross-over ethernet cable to connect those two integrated ethernet adaptors. The cable you buy will likely say "ethernet" and/or "Cat5" on it; the key is to make sure it says "cross-over."

Question: Question on gaming

I havent been able to get a straight reply to this question, so Ill ask it here. If me and a buddy are going to play the same PC games at the same time, can we do this behind a router?(particularly WoW and Americas Army)

Ive been told that you cant do this due to the router only being able to forward the needed ports to 1 pc, but Ive seen some posts around the internet of people saying they could do this. If a router wont work, what will?

Were also likely to have a Xbox and Ps2 hooked up to the internet as well.

Answer:Question on gaming

i used to play medal of honor spearhead behind my lynksys router on 2 computers with no problems i dont think you should have any problems....i got WoW, but the other computer in my house is probably too old to play it, so I cant test I moved on to a d-link wireless router.....back to the point you shouldnt have a problem....maybe instead of forwarding the ports, instead just open the port for the game on the router....for example on my d-link di-524, in the advanced options, applications, it already has setup in there. all i did is enable it and it opens the ports for ie 6112....thats it all there is to far as for my particular router....for others it might be worded differently, but the end result should still be the same...maybe look for port triggering or something like that?

I?m not very knowledgeable when it comes to GPU?s so I?m hoping someone can help answer this question.  I go to a college that gives us Lenovo computers but we only have 2 to pick from.  And I want to get the one that will be better at gaming.  I know there are much better options for gaming out there but I can only pick between the NVIDIA Quadro M2000M 4GB and the NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 2GB.  Both of them have an Intel Core i7-6820HQ Processor (3.6GHz, 8MB Cache).  If they are different can you please tell me how different they would perform?  If you need more information please just let me know.  Also my school said that the second one comes with the NVIDIA GeForce 840MX 2GB but from what I can see, that does not exist so I?m assuming they made a mistake because the computer says it comes with the NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 2GB the Lenovo's website.  Please let me know if it does exist.  Thank You!

Hello whoever reads this, I'm pretty tech savy when it comes to software but building a computer is a different story. I've spent weeks googling everything and am trying to build a decent gaming PC for around 400-800. I've been mainly looking on TigerDirect, MicroCenter, & NewEgg. I found one pre-built "Gaming" Desktop but a part of me wants to actually build one myself, I'm just not sure if the parts I've found will work with one another.
The main game I'm looking at running at the highest quality is:
Diablo III Recommended/Min System Req:

Windows® Vista/7 (latest service packs)
Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5600+ 2.8 GHz
NVIDIA® GeForce® 260 or ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 or better
12 GB available HD space

Heres a link to the computer I found on Tigerdirect: Gaming PC Its $800, and I would obviously want a better graphics card as well as a sound card upgrade so that's pushing my budget a tad. Here are some of the "same" parts via Tigerdirect and MicroCenter, MicroCenter Parts & TigerDirect Parts

I have a Nvidia 8600 GTS with 256MB memory on my AMD Athlon 64 4200+ machine which has 2 Gigs of RAM. I don't know which is the best way to get performance out of the card for gaming. I mostly play Flight Simulator 2004 and Battlefield 2142. Should I:

1. Set the Ansiotropic Filtering and Anti-Aliasing through the NVIDIA control panel and turn them off in games.
2. Or set them to "Application Controlled" and set them in the games?

Thanks for any help!

Answer:Gaming graphics question

Setting it through the Nvidia control panel will set it for all games...setting it per application is only well...for that application. Not all games let you do that. I'm not aware there is any difference aside from that.

Hi there, got a whole load of questions regarding my laptop and gaming. Ill split them up to make it easier to read.

Im trying to play Allods Online. A new MMORPG that is well worth looking at. Search Allods EU, its free, and a very good game! Not your typical runescape. Much more WOW, but different. Below are the min specs, and i can play the game, but it does have lag now and again. I remmeber playing WOW much smoother on less laptops. So, whats going on. Ive read the laptop simply isnt good enough, and theres nothing i can upgrade. When the game is on, and im running Gamebooster, (optimising program) it takes just 1.2gb of my ram. and 20-40% of CPU. Im playing on lowest settings. I want it smooth and lag free for PVP.

This will be the only game ill be playing.

Minimum Requirements

Answer:Gaming laptop question.

Updating BIOS won't do a thing unless there is a very specific reason to do so. It certainly won't help any "lag" problems.

Is the "lag" due to your machine, or could it be simply a lag in internet communication? How fast is your connection?

You might also check to see what else you have running that you can shut down. WMI can slow things quite a bit if running. It needs to run, but you can pause it from a command line:

net pause winmgmt

You should not need to restart it since it will start itself, but if needed:

net continue winmgmt

Something like Bitsum's Process Lasso is also useful (or the free ProcessTamer--the free version of Lasso works well). You could lower the CPU priority of processes you need to keep running but that do not need CPU priority and raise the priority of the game to above normal or high (never use "realtime"--it will lock the machine and you won't be able to do anything). Lasso has a gaming mode. The developer is a very honest and hard-working individual who is always making improvements based on user feedback. Keep an eye out for the frequent updates if you use it. I have it on every machine I own. Once you get your settings the way you want, you can shut down the main program, freeing up yet more CPU, and leave the service running in the background to enforce the priorities. I run it under Local System credentials, but it works fine under any administrative credentials, too.

I've been shopping around for a gaming laptop and also asking advice on a few forums. I feel like I'm getting advice from some people who are overly obsessed with specifications and they're telling me that I need to get more than I actually need.

The main purpose for this gaming laptop will be to play the Sims 3. Not an extremely demanding game, but with all its expansion packs it can be somewhat demanding. I've been looking at a variety of computers, though it seems like they have great specifications until you run into the graphics card.

I'm being told that I should get a graphics card with a bus memory of at least 192 MB, but it's been really tough to find a gaming laptop that has a graphics card with that much bus memory when I'm really hoping to spend under $1000 on this computer.

There are a few cards that I've looked at on and they seem pretty good. I'd like to get opinions on the following graphics cards and whether or not they'd be able to handle the Sims 3 game play.

- AMD Radeon HD 7670M w/ 2GB
- AMD Radeon HD 7650M w/ 1GB
- GeForce GT 645M w/ 2GB
- AMD Radeon HD 7730M w/ 2GB

personally i would go with the 8500. i dont no of any games that really takes advantage of 4 cores.. the higher clock frequency is a plus for gaming. E8500 can power an ati 4870x2.. so u wont need to worry about its performance and i know of E8400 overclocked to 3.6ghz which is sweet for gaming.

however if u want true multitasking then go with the quad..

i recently got a system with a e8400 and a ati 4850 graphic card.. its a pretty impressive system. the dual cores allows for good multitasking and the higher clock speed really shows when playing games.

what graphic card are u planning to get? cause thats where i'd try to spend my money..

Hi all. So I was wondering if you guys had any opinions on gaming headsets for pc. My headphone jack for my computer isn't working so I don't think I can use any wired headsets (if I'm wrong on this please let me know). So I was looking into wireless ones, preferably $100 and under. The three I narrowed it down to were the corsair 2100, turtle beach px4 or 5 (from amazon or ebay) and the PDP afterglow kral. Anybody have any opinions on any of these ones or any other ones you would recommend? Thanks for any help on this!

Hello. Im unable to acheive an open NAT on my Xbox 1 since my ISP(Liberty, Puerto Rico) locks out
my modem whenever I change the port settings. Im considering purchasing a router in order to circumvent that and improve the experience. I imagine there's no concrete answer to this but my question is, will my experience improve by much? How important is an open NAT to a quality online gaming experience? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Open NAT for gaming question

There should not be any difference, if you port forward the right ports it should be the same.

I got a new Alienware Laptop, the Alienware 17, and I've got a question about it regarding gaming.

I got the i7 4800, 16gb ram, and GTX 780M with 4gb RAM (single, can only do double on Alienware 18)

I was playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and the computer's screen is capable of 120Hz, so I set it to 120Hz, at full HD with anti-aliasing set to 2x.

I noticed a bit of lagging, but no more than what it did at 60Hz, so I assume that this is just due to internet lag? It doesn't display the cable disconnected symbol, but I've never ever seen it display that until it lags for 2 or more seconds. Also, the game was not crashing and the computer was not overheating, the fans were not turning up, and when I put my hand behind the vents they did not feel very hot. Not even noticeably hotter than they do while I perform normal tasks on the computer.

So I was wondering, should the GTX 780M be able to play games at full HD and at 120Hz? Or is that too much to ask of this graphics card?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Question about Gaming on new Alienware

Try monitoring framerates with FRAPs or something similar. Is vsync on in the game? Not sure how that would impact playing at 120Hz, but it's worth a look.

OK, I just got a copy of Half-Life Counter Strike. I decided to download Steam and play online. In order to do this I had to tell ZoneAlarm to let a lot of stuff through. How much of a chance is there that I will contract a virus/trojan from playing these games online? I am not to concerned about spy/ad ware.

Answer:Online Gaming Question

Pretty slim. To be honest, I haven't heard of it happening.

If the servers are run by the company that released the game, the chances are even slimmer.

When you match the price of the two the Core i7 920 and this Phenom cost nearly the same.
However, I also see that the i7 920 run at 2.66ghz and the Phenom (which is slightly cheaper in price) run at 3.4ghz. Thats why Im wondering if the above Phenom will be a good choice

So where to being... Well, you can see my comp specs down at the bottom so I won't bother typing them again. My question really is whether or not there is something limiting my computer when I play HL2, Doom3, and other games because I haven't seen much of a difference after upgrading from an Athlon XP 2600+, and 512mb of cheap ram. Before I upgraded I could get away with playing HL2 at about an average of 45fps with everything on medium, and some things like shadows on high (No AA/aniso filt). Now, it runs at about 42fps with everything except texture detail on high (no AA/no aniso filt). I expected that I could change everything up to high just due to upgrading the ram, but I feel like there hasn't been any sort of improvement with the processor. (The same happened with Doom 3, although it's worse cuz I messed up the config file). Anyway here's what I've done:

-Updated ALL drivers (bios, geforce, processor, on-board sound)
-Played around with the settings, turning everything down (resolution and stuff) and then up again. There is hardly any difference in performance or fps.
-Made sure everything is compatible with everything else. It all looks good (in theory).

I'm not sure I did the driver updating stuff right (it just installed and said it was done, I restarded the comp and assumed it was finished). It seems like I should at least be able to play at a higher fps or turn on AA with the new processor. (If I turn it on now, it slows down to 20 fps, even at just 2x)... Read more

Answer:Too Greedy? (Gaming question)

Try wiping the hard drive and then installing the new software for your new hardware. When ever you make those big changes you should consider installing windows on a new clean hard drive. This is so you dont mix up the drivers for the old and new hard ware.

I wish to play a Flight sim game Online through, but am a little concerned at the potential security issues with doing so.Can Viruses, Trojans and Ad/Spy-ware be passed between PC's in doing so? and secondly in order to play online I have to give Server privilege within Zone Alarm. Surely that is a massive security risk?Or am I being too cautious?

Answer:Online Gaming question

You would be very unlucky to get avirus from playing online games, you are not actually connected to the other peoples pcs they rout you thru a server and it would be unlickly they didnt have virus protection, and you will need to give server permission for the game or if you wont to start the game up and create a server running from your pc.Having said that its not impossable to catch things but if you have a firewall and virus protection you should be just fine, its a great way to play go for it.

I have a brand new Linksys wireless router that works fine on my desktop computers. And when I attempt to connect my Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 to the internet it notices and picks up on my wireless connection. But when I try to connect it repeatedly tells me there is a DNS error for both systems and fails. The exact same thing happens whether im connecting them to the router wirelessly or with an ethernet cable.

My router is a Wireless N Gigabite router from Linksys, and my ISP is AT&T. Even when I attempt to manually input all the DNS information into the systems is still tells me there is an error.

Is there compatibility issues, am I missing something? what's going on here?

You could build your own system for alot less then what you would pay retail for that HP desktop. Also that CPU is not that great. I bet that system listed above is more then $650 am I right? Also that GPU sucks for gaming or anything else for that matter. Intergrated GPU's run off of the cpu which in turn slow the whole computer down.

I just got a 42" Philips 1080 in my room and I was debating on whether to get a 360 or not. I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to and I'd like to stick with a game that I'm very good at; Counter-Strike. Aside from all that I want to ask everyone a question here.

I keep my computer in fairly good condition, I always defrag, disk clean up, delete all my cookies and registries, I always scan every three days. There. My PC is still a bit sluggish, and I want to play a Counter-Strike:Source, that's not nearly going to eat up my system resources such as Crysis or Call of Duty 4 would.

I have 1GB of RAM, I'm looking to upgrade to 3.

I have an ATI Radeon X1650, I'll probably purchase an 8800. Any suggestions on how to keep a GPU cool? Is there a USB fan I can buy and put it underneath my card?

These are all easy questions for myself, but these upgrades alone, I should notice a difference between my gameplay and my computer correct? Right.

I have an 800 watt power supply, and I use my hard drive frequently for multimedia purposes. All I'm looking for are some suggestions from the community. Thanks.

P.S. I've played Counter-Strike: Source on this computer before, it's just been through a lot after time and I don't feel like reformatting.

Ok, you've probably seen the debate on processors a million times, luckily this isn't one of those "intel vs amd" cause I chose amd a long time ago and I'm sticking with it for gaming. Anyway, "My Question" is this, I am looking at 2 processors, the amd 64 fx-62 windsor 2.8Ghz and the amd 64 x2 5200+ windsor 2.6Ghz, in the specifications on they look exactly the same except for one is 200Mhz faster and there voltage is different... other than that does anyone know if they will run any different? I'm planing on going dual video cards, ect. other than the 200Mhz the only thing I could see is that was different was about 300 dollars or so in if the 200Mhz is the only performance difference (cause i dont know if the voltage makes any difference) then i'll get the cheaper one.

heres a link to them:

please before u got off on an overclocking / "or this processor instead" post / discussion... not to be mean, but thats not what im looking for, all i need is to know if there are any serious differences between these 2 processors. Thank you in advance

The only thing it will change is the speed at which he can download games. Gaming doesn't take much bandwidth.

Did a fresh install onto the new SSD of Win7 Ultimate x64. Using the SSD as the boot drive, and plan on installing my games on my WD Velicoraptor 300 GB drive. TRIM support is on, and I made sure i turned off any defragging on the SSD.

When I ran Left 4 Dead 2 (Which normally runs flawlessly at highest quality), i noticed stuttering at random intervals. I restarted and tweaked some settings, seems to be a bit better, but i am not sure that sounds normal.

Anyone have any tips or setting tweaks for the SSD that would help me out?

128GB OCZ Vertex 2 for temp downloads and backups
1TB WD for downloads from MSDN etc
2TB WD for music, video and documents etc

However if you have a lot of games as you mention SSDs are not the best option so the WD Black is a good option for a large drive,

I have my operating system on my IDE hard drive and my music and film collection on a SATA drive. I was wondering if it would make games run better if i installed and ran from the SATA driverather than the IDE drive...?

Baring in mind that i am nearly always downloading onto the SATA drive (torrent) and the IDE drive is dealing with windows' functions what do you think?

I don't think its going to make much of a difference that you can see, applications running faster will rely more on RAM then transfer speed of HD.

As long as your computer has the appropriate slots, AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port), PCIe(express) and some times just PCI, there are many possibilities you could look into. RCT3 is not very demanding on graphics so really any card made recently should be able to play it without any problems.

As far as brands are concerned, it's all a matter of personal preference, and examining your choices and picking the one that best suits your needs.

Sorry if im posting this in the wrong forums, My monitor is giving me trouble & i was thinking of buying a new widescreen monitor but since the majority of my games are older titles (Age of Empires, Baldurs Gate, SW KotOR etc.) in worried about how these older game will look on a widescreen, I dont wanna spend $200+ on something and my games look like a funhouse mirror, I do have some games that have widescreen support (Warcraft, BF2142) but i still wanna be able to play the older games that i still enjoy.

Answer:Gaming on widescreen monitors question

If the games are a bit older, they might look pretty messed up on a widescreen (from what you're used to). Check to see what your games maximum resolution is, and see if it is the same as the maximum resolution of your monitor. If not it may look weird.
It MAY look weird if for example the game's resolution is at 1024x768 and the monitors max resolution is 1440x900
It WON'T look weird if for example the game's max resolution is 1920x1080 and you've set it at 1440x900 and the monitors resolution is 1440x900.

Right now, Diablo II is the only game I play and would like to load Diablo II on my computer so I don't have to use the CD. IF anyone could help me out, it would be great!

NOTE: I don't know alot about computers so if you try to help me, please keep the computer lingo very simple. Thanks! =)

Answer:Seems like an easy question to answer regarding Gaming

If you do a full install of DiabloII it will install all the files needed for the game on your hard drive, including music and video. The only reason it should then require your cd is for the anti-piracy cd check, which doesn`t actually load anything from the disk, it just checks that you have an original copy.

If I went with an NVME M.2 drive for my scratch/media cache, does anyone know if my board will support it? I have the M.2 slot already used for my OS and that is not going to change. Does my board support 2 at the NVME speed if I got an adapter and used a PCIe slot with an NVME M.2 drive? I can't seem to find any info on it right now.
I have the Gigabyte AX370 Gaming 5 board. I'm sure it will work but I don't know if it will be slower because of already using the M.2 lane? Does anyone know?

Answer:Gigabyte AX370 Gaming 5 M.2 question.

The motherboard manual will say whether two M.2s can be occupied and if they step down in speed. Google your motherboard model and the first link should be Gigabyte's website. There you can download the manual. Unless of course you already have the manual.

Hello everyone! I have some questions, I hope someone can help me. I found a Dell T3500 at a good price, it has the Xeon W3580, 12GB of RAM and 1TB HDD, that seems pretty good to add to my GTX 950 and play some games I cant right now due to my good old Core 2 Quad I have right, it cant keep up with some more demanding games. I already checked some videos on Youtube and it does handle the latest game with easy with a GPU.The problem I saw is that I see this Dell only has Sata 2.0. Is that correct? Does it means the HDD is slower? How much? My current computer has Sata 3.0, it also uses a Micron C400 SSD, which makes it lighting fast. Could I use my SSD on the Dell? Or will there be any issues? I really want to use my SSD for some games and the O.S, the HDD will be for much bigger games and the rest of programs and data.Hope somebody can share me some light on this issue. Thanks everyone!

Answer:Dell T3500: Gaming and SSD question.

Buy something else -- a desktop system of more recent vintage with a more current chipset/mainboard/CPU.
These Precisions are loaded with proprietary components and the Xeon CPUs are now obsolete - you should easily be able to find an Ivy Bridge or newer i7 system for equivalent money.

Hi there,

Bought a Inspiron 15 Gaming a week ago with the i7 7700HQ kaby lake cpu,
Comes with:
Intel core  i7 7700HQ kaby lake cpu
256GB SSD + 1TB Hard drive
Geforce GTX 1050 ( appears to be a 1050 ti on my order comfirmation ).
1080p screen.

The real question is: Is it upgradeable to a Nvme M2 ssd later on ?, because the 4k screen version with the 512GB ssd has a nvme version in it.

Hope the 15 gaming does work pretty well.
Using a 17R 5720, which is 4 years and 5 months old, but still good battery life. Just lacks of the SATA3 msata and a good graphics chip.

Hey guys,

I'm sort of new to the wireless networking world. I have a few friends that currently have the same router as I and they've helped me out a lot so far. Here is the problem I'm having.

When I turn my PC on (laptop with wireless DWL-G650 card) my PC searches for the wireless signal, it finds it but it's almost like it's not using the entire wireless network or something. It sometimes will say "Limited Connectivety" and won't allow me to access my network or the internet. This issue does not happen all the time but I'd say maybe 6 out of 10 times time. My Signal Strength is Excellent. This issue can happen when I'm right by my router or if I'm down stairs. The distance from the router doesn't seem to have an effect on it.

I have MAC filtering enabled on my router which is set up for my laptop and my desktop. I have the following settings on my router.

Channel: 2.4GHz
Transmission Rate: Auto
802.11 Mode: 802.11g Only
Super G Mode: Super G Mode with Dynamic Turbo.

Anyone have any ideas maybe what my issue might be? It's weird because it really doesn't have a pattern. Also I am unsure what this setting is "DHCP Lease Times which I have at 1440 minutes. Is that something that shuld be set higher?

I'd appreciate any all help on the subject. If you guys need to know more settings please let me know.

Thanks fellas.

Answer:D-Link Gaming Router Question??

have you tried disabling the super g and/or turbo mode? maybe there is something going on there. have you updated the firmware? there might be a bug with some features that are fixed in a newer firmware version. i think the DHCP lease times is when the router will change each computers LAN IP address after a certain time period. this is not your IP address that others will see on the internet but just LAN based.

In the advance settings there is a place to adjust the speed of the mouse. There is 5 slots to set 5 different speeds but the mouse only shows 3 led spots which means I can set 3 speeds. Is there a way to set 5 and use all 5?

Edit: Also I have this exact same problem this guy does: G5 Sensitivity weirdness Windows VISTA - G-Series Mice - Logitech Forums

Answer:Question about my G5 gaming mouse settings

yes, you can use all 5. And it can be done with the 3 LED's.

Highest DPI = top LED only
high-mid DPI = top and middle LED
middle DPI = middle LED only
mid-low DPI = middle and low LED
low DPI = low LED only

without the drivers and software installed, it just uses 3 DPI settings.

Had a question about my frame rates. I recently built a computer with the intention of building a decent gaming rig. Did a decent amount of research and had a friend to fill in the blanks. I did not initially buy a video card, but later upgraded because I was not content with the quality of the games, videos, etc. I would like to know if my processor may be gimping my system.

These are my specs:

ASUS M4A78LT-M AM3 AMD 760G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
500W ATX12V v2.3 Power Supply
4GB (2 x 2GB) Desktop Memory
Radeon HD 5770 Graphics Card

I would appreciate any input.

Thank you.

Since there is no processor listed it would be impossible to answer that question. What Brand and model is your power supply?

Okay first of all, my laptop doesn't have the sound card to provide 7.1 surround sound, it does however have Dolby Surround Sound, so I was thinking if I purchased a 7.1 surround sound headset, how can I configure each speakers on it? Since currently the only audio channel I have is Stereo.

The headset is plugged in by USB, so it must act like a sound card on its own, if I plug in the USB headset, will it provide me another audio channel for 7.1?

The headset is a Razer Megaladon.

Answer:7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset question

Hello PinoyForTheWin.

Razer devices a pretty powerful when it comes to hardware performance/gaming. They are also well known for providing complex drivers for their products.
My guess is that when you'll install the headset, the driver software will provide you some advanced options to choose from.
Among those, there should be some setting to enable the 7.1 sound experience, by overriding your standard sound card settings, and applying its own.
I cannot however guarantee this as a 100% go, it's just a thought to help you decide what to do next.

Good luck

I'm considering getting the X1 Carbon and using it mostly as a development machine, because it's so lightweight yet still rugged and just overall beautiful. I mean, it's a Thinkpad. However, while I mostly game on my desktop, it does occasionally happen that I want to play something on my laptop when I'm out of my apartment. Usually just Minecraft, which I imagine the X1 Carbon could handle just fine, but rarely I'll start something up like Guild Wars 2 or, more recently, Path of Exile. I know these games have graphics settings that can be turned down pretty low, but does anyone out there have any experience with the capabilities of Intel Graphics HD 4000? I mean, I don't expect I'll ever be playing anything notorious for high demand of GPU resources, but I'm wondering if this is something to consider. I'll probably buy it anyway, I guess I just want to know what to expect if I have occasion to try some light to medium gaming on it sometime. Thanks!

I recently took a break from WoW, and i just reinstalled it yesterday and ive been having some problems that i remember having back before i uninstalled it. The settings are differant.. The look is not the same, its worse! The graphics are sucky, because i have everything on low but im still getting 10 fps max? When before ide sail at a smooth 20-25 fps.

I'm hopeing some kind elder soul would help me, im not the best with laptops, my knowledge is limited because of my age. Ide like to point out that ive noticed an odd thing..

Answer:Laptop gaming Question (Someone W/ Time + Patience)

Hey, even though we may have answered it on here, your question may not be exactly the same.

What is your budget?

This has been recommended on here several times: - ASUS A53SV-NH51 Notebook Intel Core i5 2430M(2.40GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory DDR3 640GB HDD 5400rpm DL DVD?RW/CD-RW NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

A good game performer. Don't expect max settings, but medium at best.

We don't fight, we can only suggest.

Hey, I am going to purchase a new gaming pc and i have a couple questions. So far i have:

ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939 Nvidia nForce4 motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor

eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

Corsair XMS 1GB (2x512mb) 184-Pin DDR 400 SDRAM

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB ATA150 HDD

Im going to use my current case (thermaltake XaserIII), dvd burner, and possibly my SB Live! 5.1 PCI sound card, but i was wondering if the ASUS mobo's onboard sound ( Realtek ALC850 ) is better than my soundblaster?

Also i know this is out of place in this section of the forums, but ive done research on all these parts, and I was wondering if you would give me your input on if you think this is a good setup or not.. And if they both are really really bad, is there a decent upgrade for under 50 bucks? Im not very knowledgeable on soundcards..

The total came out to $971.97 on newegg.. Thank you!

Answer:Building new gaming computer, question on sound

That's a real nice rig there. The sound card may be better, but not much.

A DFI mobo will outperform the Asus a little if you know how to set it up. The Asus is much more easy to use.

Now that watching 3D movies work fine for me...I'm thinking of trying out 3D games.

First of order for me to play games in 3D, do I need to purchase games labelled as 3D games or can the Nividia component in the laptop sort of convert any games to 3D?

Can someone guide me in the steps to play a game in 3D?
Any examples of games I can play in 3D?

hello,I have had some trouble with setting up drivers and all, and searching for reviews suggests that laptop shows less perfomance than it should. i would appreciate if you could share your perfomance with games, if you have tried gaming on this laptop. Or what drivers and hacks work for you, if you had to use any. I want to know if I"m getting what I should from perfomance. I'm considering clean windows install and some advanced messing with drivers, which I rather would not, and just enjoy playing. I have 20 fps for L4d2 on high, 20fps for bf:bc2 and bf3, both BF start with a lot of stuttering, but after a while I noticed for BF:BC2 laptop sort of "Warmed uP" and stuttering stoped.

Answer:Y570 gaming perfomance - question to owners

Dude there's no guaranty this will work but it has been known to work, use this 285.79 drivers and pick clean install when installing, then set all the setting to performance in power options. I hope it helps

I just have some qestions about everything, but im wonder which way to go, crossfire or SLI for the new gaming PC i plan to biuld. i want to, at some point, dual up on graphics cards and need to make a desion right off the bat. just curious if any one out there has some personal experience, or any helpful information on the topic. i know its a loaded question because underneath it is the desision between ATI or NVIDIA. but for the most part im wondering which appears to be more compatible, if that make any sense. The CPU i want is the Atholon 64 X2 4400+. ive read some many reviews about CPU, Mobo's, and everything to the point where my whole project has been put into question. ive made several complete shopping carts full of goodies, and canceled the checkout do to indecsion. If you have any helpfull tips, please pass them my way.

Answer:Quick question about CPU's and MOBO's & the making of a gaming PC

nVidia. I don't own dual video cards but AMD is best suited for nVidia video cards and Intel is best suited for ATi videocards.

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a new laptop and am deciding to go with the lenovo y520 80WK004UMH.Before I want to buy the laptop, I want to know a few things: - Is in mine model an m.2 slot available for an SSD upgrade and is it available in every lenovo y520 model?- Does any upgrades void the warranty?- What do you think of the gtx 1050 4gb card? Is it good enough to run most modern games on it, I don't expect them to play everything at ultra mode, but I'm pretty satisfied to play most games 60 fps on medium to high.- Has the i7 7700HQ a huge benefit for increase in gaming performance or is the i5 7300HQ fine? And yes, the more you spend, the better you'll get, the more future proof your laptop is. I'm kinda short on money, so I won't be able to go over ?1000,00 euro's. Thank you! Best regards, TheClient

I'm not sure what the general conscientious is nowadays with the arrival of windows 7, however with windows 2k and XP I would always keep a separate OS instal strictly for gaming and another one for work purposes(internet, office, vmware, acronis, visio, acrobat etc...). How is it nowadays? is it worth the extra headache of doing this especially as I'm running a C300 SSD which has made immense difference in performance.

Answer:Separate OS install for gaming only?

It was never necessary or beneficial for 2K, XP, or Vista.

Nothing has changed for 7.

For the build I have I dedicated a HDD for all my games (D: drive) now, about 2 months ago i did a OS re-install as a last resort to solve some issues I was having (turns out it didn't help, but i found the cause)

Now I'm experiencing a few issues.

Everything that i installed on the 2nd HDD isn't detected in the programs panel (Control Panel), games require registration codes or CD Keys again, and their icons dont display in steam (generic blank icon)

I believe it has something to do with the link between my USER and the games, being broken from the re-install. Cause i know my E: drive folders have to be re-linked to there respective folders under my USER folder after a re-install.

Any help would be great, I fear I may have to re-install all the games, and steam to get things registered and working correctly.

btw this is my first time having a dedicated gaming HDD set-up so if there are helpful threads on this forum that ppl can link up, it'll be much appreciated. :D

Answer:OS Re-Install - Problem Gaming off 2nd HDD

After a reinstall of the operating system, the games and things must be reinstalled.

To do this all that is required is to reinstall to the same directory as they are in now. This will save all of your settings and priofiles as they are.

By reinstalling Windows, you effectivly erased the memory of the game file locations from the registry. During the reinstall of the games into the same location, all of the files will be be rerecorded into the Windows registry.
