Hardware upgrad Vista needs revalidation, no idea where my key is

Question: Hardware upgrad Vista needs revalidation, no idea where my key is

So, I upgraded some hardware x3 720 BE, asrock extreme 3 mobo, kingston hyper x, hopefully a GTX 550 ti or somthing similar soon And of course with no warning that I ever saw Vista locked me out of windows.

Is there some way to get my cd key with something like winkeyfinder (I tried but it wont recognize my thumb drive)

Any help appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Hardware upgrad Vista needs revalidation, no idea where my key is

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Upgrad XP to Vista

OK....before I get flamed, I don't want to do a clean install.I want to install Vista Ultimate over XP on a cloned HDD...Will the PC password (I don't use one for XP) be kept?....Will I still be able to use XP on the original HDD without activation/license issues? If I do a clean install will I have to load video, network, etc drivers for hardware or will it retain them.

Answer:Upgrad XP to Vista

I can speak from experience on this. I upgraded to Vista 2.5 years ago (free offer thing) and ran the upgrade over a 100% factory install of XP fresh from the recovery partition. I know now that many of the minor issues I had were caused by a flawed upgrade procedure and the upgrade patches applied to bundled software etc.In August this year I bit the bullet and clean installed (You can do this from an upgrade disk) and am amazed how quick and responsive it is.Yes you will need apropriate drivers but gather as many as you can onto a USB drive first. Not sure over your license question re XP

My system has a separate partion for the OS of 32.2 GB with 10.9 GB of free space. I have separate partions for Programs & for Data.

I will be using a Win7 Ultimate ISO DVD as my Win 7 source.

Can I do an upgrade so as to keep my programs without the need to reinstall them as with a clean install?

Answer:Upgrad Vista to Win7 & OS in seperate 32.2 GB partion

With a new system, you will need to reinstall all your programs. There is no way around it because programs are not only "program files" but a lot more such as registry settings, etc.
But your data folders, if they are in a seperate partion, you can just "include" into the win7 libraries. That is the easiest course of action.
32GB for an OS is tight but will work if you take some precautions (control the shadowstorage, eliminate the hibernation file, etc.). My win7 32bit is 15.4GB right now and I have quite a few programs installed. My 64bit win7 is about 5GBs bigger.

I recently installed a new PSU, and many of my previously nonfunctional updates for Windows Update decided to work, including Security Essentials which I was attempting to have installed through Windows Update.

Since then, I've been getting popups about recent driver or hardware changes that require revalidation, which is strange to me.

My question is why this occurred, and if what I'm seeing is legit. When I click on the link, it takes me to Genuine Microsoft Software and the file that I download doesn't have a valid signature. Is this safe, or am I being spoofed? What could have caused the issue if it's legitimate? I have run MSE, Trend Micro House Call, and Malwarebytes Anti Malware all in full scans, twice.

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows revalidation

Can you post a screenshot of the driver warning you're seeing?

Each time PC is booted up, a warning, purportedly from microsoft, advises that due to changes in the PC hardware a product revalidation is required and must be performed within 3 days otherwise there will be a loss of service. A dialog box containing a YES or NO choice is provided. Is this a scam?
There have been no modifications to the PC in the last 12 months

Answer:3 day warning revalidation windows XP

Would help if you could post the precise wording of the warning that you get.
But in the meantime, have a look at this, which might explain the situation: Windows XP requires a revalidation

Here is my issue...
My computer is about 2 years old got it because it was supposed to be awesome for gaming. For the past month now its just been randomly shutting down....or i should say it is randomly shutting off, completely. No warning no shut down procedure just straight to the always scarey blue screen of death. All thats left on is the power button light on the front of the tower, no green power light on the back of the case. Ive taken it up with verizon since i have their security suite and according to them it is not spyware or a virus. At first I thought it was over heating so i cracked the case and gave a little help with a regular household fan on a low setting giving it a bit more air flow, but even with that i figure couldnt be overheating because at times it will shut down minutes after powerup.Could it really just be that it needs a good cleaning physically? Or am I going to have to shell out money for a new power supply? How can I diagnose the power supply of that is the issue? Ive rolled it back to a restore point and so far its run ok for ten minutes. Any ideas? What could be the problem? Hardware, software, spyware? Any help is seriously appreciated.

Answer:Hardware, software, syware..... no idea

Well, clearly, one of the steps here is to clean out all the dust, expecially in the processor and video card heatsinks. Also, while you're in there, reseat ALL the cables, expansion cards, etc.

Next, I'd give it a memory test, at least a couple of hours on one of these. Any failures are a problem, these should run error-free for as long as you let them run.

I plan to build a system with an Intel Core 2 E6600 with a NVidia 8800 GTX and was wondering if there is any big problem with running my copy of Windows 2000 Professional I already have. I still use it with my 3Ghz Pentium 4 and it's been perfect for me.

If it's not wise to run Windows 2000 on this new hardware is it better to get Windows 2003 64-bit or Windows XP 64-bit and why? I pretty much use my computer to play games like Half Life 2, Flight Simulator 2004, Doom 3 and to watch movies and look at pr0n.

2K had it's time in the sun, now it's past. Get XP SP2 on there and you'll be fine. As most others will tell you, with any 64 bit OS you're going to encounter issues with gaming and drivers. I personally don't have any issues at all on this Core 2 Duo running at 1.66 GHz and using Intel GMA950 onboard graphics, so that monster you're going to build would absolutely scream with XP or Vista for most intents and purposes.

But sticking with 2K at this stage in the "game" of Windows and computer hardware would be like putting racing stripes and a Recaro seat on a Segway...

Hello everyone. I'm new here and this will be my first post on here. I'm sorry if I have started this post in a wrong thread. I'm unsure of where it should go. Anyways, I'm not a tech expert so that's why I here. I will try my best to describe my problem tho.

First of all, I have been having this problem since last week. The problem is that it just auto shut down on me without any warning.

I thought it was because its overheating/the cpu reached it limits hence why it auto shut, but thats probably not the case.

And since that happened I just thought to myself that I should just reinstall windows. Haha. I thought that would solve my problem. But it didn't.

This crash problem occured when I opened game. I also realised that it happen as well when I browse the internet using firefox. Like after I opened it for a few minutes it then shut down.

However, if I'm not opening anything else and just at the desktop and only transferring files for hours, the crash never happen unlike after I rebooted, went to firefox, then googling stuff and then poof, it crashed. I also checked the cpu too, but its not overworking itself. Its just chilling.... Oh, and I checked it from task manager.

I already tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers and went to surf the internet afterward. No crashes at all. I could watch youtube as well without having it crash on me. But when I reinstalled the driver back. It happened again.

So... I don't know really wha... Read more

For the first time ever, I built a PC in late July. Since the first week of owning it, I have gotten the same BSOD once a month, at least. The BSOD's almost all occurred while gaming as well. I also have experienced 5-10 PC freezes, and I am at a loss. I have run Prime95 and Intel's diagnostic program, and the CPU has passed both fine. I have yet to run Memtest though, mostly because I am a bit fearful of stress testing and don't really know how long to do it for (surprised I even did any with my CPU) and just am worried that pushing it to it's max will shorten its life. I have not stressed tested my GPU, and figured it wasn't the problem as the GPU is at full load a lot of times during most days and these blue screens occur about once a month.

My hard drives seemed to cause a problem because of the frequent freezes. I also cannot put my PC to sleep, because it almost always freezes at the welcome screen when it wakes. I ran SeaTools diagnostics for my hard drive, but it froze my PC instantly. I have two of the same hard drive, but it only freezes at this moment when I have both hooked up. I cloned my main drive to my secondary drive and tried booting with each one hooked up individually. In both cases, I did not freeze when running SeaTools. Both drives also passed its diagnostic tests.

So, here I am, at a huge loss. I have tried several other forums, but people rarely answer and mostly just say to update drivers, which I have already done. I don't know what else I ca... Read more

MEMTEST

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.htmlthis one you will need to make a bootable disk set the BIOSto optical (or USB if preferred) boot the machine and let it run for at LEAST 8passes unless the errors come up straight away. Takes fair time to complete andsome leave it running overnight.

But first run these and delete any rubbish you find with the malware scans the ADW just run the Clean button when done.

I've been kickin around the idea of making a website and I want to host it at my house. I don't expect many hits realistically, I can't see their being more than 10-30 hits a day at it's peak. I'm not too concerned about bandwidth and upload speed. It's not going to be more than 1-3 pages with mostly text with some pictures, so I won't be hosting any downloads.

Do any of you host websites at your house? What are the major security concerns? I plan on using Ubuntu 9.04 for it. This is the hardware I was thinking of using, I didn't think it needed to be that powerful and I wanted it to use the least amount of energy possible since it'd be 24/7.

I would assume an Atom would be sufficient.

Answer:Hosting a website at your house. Good/Bad idea? Hardware questions as well.

really to host a website it isn't difficult at all, grab a good copy of ubuntu server edition and apache. the only thing that really limits you is bandwidth. Also if you don't plan on getting many hits then hardware is a minimum. The atom processor would do just fine in that case, but if you ever got a lot more traffic then it might become a problem.

I used to host a website from my house on a modded xbox...worked fantastically.

Hi, yesterday I had an issue with my laptop because I couldn?t connect and detect any Wi-fi network, the Bluetooth device was unavailable too, The network icon just showed available a Ethernet connection but I did not had cable so, I couldn't connect to the internet and I was looking a way to "turn on" the network adapter but I couldn't and I gave up.I download a report from the networks config and it showed the status for the Wi-fi & Bluetooth device as: DOES NOT EXIST (Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 Wireless Network Adapter and Bluetooth Device) Today I turned on my laptop and the Wi-fi was available again, I checked immediately the Lenovo Solution Center App in the section "Instantanea" to compare the changes in hardware and software vs yesterday and in the section for Network Board there is a change, yesterday there was not a available devices for Wi-fi and Bluetooth and today there are both "like they were added today".I'm worry about having the same issue in the future, my laptop is my work tool and if it fails again like yesterday what could I do?Attached a picture of the Lenovo solution center from today showing the difference vs yesterday.

Hi, ive had this computer for quite a while and its always been pretty stable. but when i started it up this morning ive had so many problems.

firstly the checkdisk utility wanted to run so i let it, it got to 51% complete and stopped, it then skipped the rest of the check and finished booting.

then when it got to the log in part a popup appeared with "error in C/:Windows/system32/nvcpl.dll missing entry in NvSessionStartup"

once i clicked ok, it logged me in however there were a lot of balloon popups with various files followed by "Corrupt entry" or something similar, as well as a popup with "unable to create the temporary folder. error: 1393 disk corrupt/unreadable" or something of the sort. now it wont let me save anything or create a new folder or update my antivirus.

i have a lot of data on this machine and if possible i would like to save it, what can i do?

please help asap!

Answer:Need help with vista and have no idea what to do.

C/:Windows/system32/nvcpl.dll...is about your Video Card...but you have other issues maybe the Hard drive is going.......try going into safe mode and see how it acts....if you can transfer important data to another HD or CD/DVD

How to Start in Safe Mode

1. Restart your computer.
2. Before the windows logo you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
5. Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode..

I'm dual booting in Xp so it shouldn't be a problem...

But will there be anything that would be a problem?

On this machine, I'm not really using much... Just Nod32 for virus protection, a-squared for trojan protection, windows defender, um...

G5 (Would there be issues with logitech software?), audigy 2 zs, p5nd2 sli (upgraded to newest bios, the one that supports everything)...

7600 gt, about to upgrade to a 8600...

And a linksys usb adapter...

It's my pentium d system...

Would it work in vista 64 bit?

Would it run slower then 32 bit? Would the ram work more? I have 2 gigs of ram...

As of late, my computer has been having problems even starting up. It will start, but only if I'm lucky. Frequently, when I try to sign into my user, I get a "Welcome" sign that continues to try to load for hours if I let it. Sometimes the desktop will show up, only to have the computer freeze as soon as I try to open up anything - like the Start menu, for instance. The thing I can do is manually restart it by holding down the power button. It will open in Safe Mode, but that's kind of a pain to use.

I've started wondering if the problem may have somehow been caused by the fact that I recently created an Administrator user account to try and solve some problems I've been having with video codecs. In a (perhaps mildly stupid) attempt to resolve this, I tried to delete the Administrator account by going to Control Panel > User Accounts > Configure advanced user profile properties, so now that user isn't listed on the "Configure advanced user profile properties" list, but it's still there when I turn my computer on and when I go to "Manage another account" under User Accounts.

But then, it's quite likely that that's not the problem at all. I ran my antivirus scan (I use AVG) twice today; the first time it came up with around 40 errors, which I think is fairly normal, isn't it? The second time it came up with 0, so don't think the problem's a virus.

Sorry about the monstrous post; does a... Read more

Answer:I actually have no idea if this is a Vista problem or not

When you say errors... Do you mean viruses it found? Normal is 0. Anything more than that, I would have to assume viruses are causing your problems. Once your comprimised like that, sometimes you cannot get rid of it unless you slave the drive and scan it, even if the next scan says it was clean. If it boots fine in safe mode and it won't boot up normally, I would have to say you got yourself a mighty fine virus. Have you done any spyware/adware checks? AVG won't remove those. I would download ad-aware from www.download.com and run that. More than likely if you have viruses, your gonna have some spyware too. Either of them can definately cause your problem. (Probably came with whatever free codec pack you installed).

OK, the setup. I was trying to install Wubi on my laptop and it was a failure. First i booted into ubuntu, couldn't connect to my Wifi, and decided to look for a solution so i booted into vista. Vista was fine and dandy at this point, but had no solutions. i tried to boot into ubuntu again to try it again, but it got stuck at the loading screen. So, enough of that, I now tried to go back into vista. Now, it begins. Vista wouldnt load, so i put the recovery disk in and fixed. i booted back into Vista and tried to uninstall Wubi. As i was scrolling through the Control Panel, it stopped responding. OK, a control-alt-delete will fix that. Uh-oh, no response from the system whatsoever beside mouse movement and futile clicks. So i turned it off and rebooted. It wanted safe mode, blah blah blah, back into vista. I manually uninstalled it using the uninstall program. So its gone. But the system keeps crashing. reboot, and tried Memry Diagnostics. It finds no errors, but CheckDisk, (I think) finds a bunch of bad files relating to iTunes. I was downloading some tv shows at the times, so i went back into vista, and everytime i tried to do anything iTunes related, it would freeze. I looked and my library was empty. Odd, so i unnstalled iTunes. Still freezing. This time it was firefox, which also had its settings erased. WTF, indeed. So i reinstalled that which brings me to now. No you only need to do a repair install if the machine will not boot.To replace missing or corrupt windows files use sfc /scannow press OKTo repair registry errors safely use the registry option in CCleaner (safest method) other registry cleaners can be too aggressive and give more problems than they solve

Hey guys I was just randomly thinking the other day, and came up with a random wild idea.

I also hear people talk about and notice that vista as well as any operating system, takes up system resources. And dedicated video gaming consoles tend to take better advantage of their resources.

Some people might not like this idea, hell it might not even be possible. But what if when you had vista or windows 7 up and running, you could "restart in game mode" essentially rebooting your computer with a small OS like what is on the 360, that is for gaming and maximizing your resources, this could be completly optional, but for the guys that waned minimal resource hogging this could be an option, would this even be possible? I can not imagine how well say, my 8800gts would perform if it was basicially running on an operating system the size of the 360's.

Answer:Windows 7/vista gaming idea

I'm on quad-core, my OS could eat a whole core usage and I would still beat the crap out of any console in regards to graphics IQ, sound quality and effects, physics and network lantency/effeciency.

DirectX gives the game a direct (pun intended) path (API) to hardware access.

What I rather prefer is that there where more games that maxed out the hardware...like Crysis.
Forcing NVIDIA/AMD to push out faster GPU's..and increasing the lead over console preformance even further than it is today.

I was looking to getting a graphics card update at the end of the year, along with 4 GB ram and Vista 64. But, I keep heaing about windows 7 coming out next year and just having second thoughts with upgrading my OS. I know there'd be a problem with the 4GB of ram if I stay with XP, nor do I really have a reason to HAVE vista at this point.

So what do all of you think? I mean, was vista just a giant beta test bed to get some ideas for windows 7? Was it like Windows ME, or has it been a solid OS upgrade? I'm not trying to make a flame war for the bulk of "cautious" XP users out there who swear vista is buggy as hell, broken, etc. I'm just honestly asking is it worth it at this point?

No. Vista is the 'major' change to the Windows OS. Windows 7 will inevitably be a rather minor change in comparison.

You'll see some stuff smoothed out a bit, and some new glitz 'n' glamour added, undoubtedly. But Vista was (and is) the release where a new layer of code was added to the underlying structure and a lot of stuff which was previously optional for software developers has now been made mandatory. Windows 7 won't change that.

Vista is consumer-ready, and has been for quite some time. Apart from corporate users who have trouble configuring older, multi platform networks, the only people who really have 'problems' with Vista to any major extent are those people who fiddle wityh the bloody thing, thinking that they somehow 'know better' than the developers, or those people who blindly install every program (version) they used before and try to do everything exactly the same way they did under XP. Let Vista be Vista and be prepared to update/upgrade/replace a few programs in your software library where necessary. And learn how to actually USE Vista. That's the key to success with it.
With 4Gb or more RAM in a rig nowadays it makes little sense to stick with 32-bit Windows, and for 64-bit Windows computing it makes very little sense to use anything other than Vista 64-bi... Read more

Guys,

Ok, I've uleashed my previous opinions and am starting to come around on the whole should I do Vista, yes, no maybe wait all that. I wanted to ask anyone if they have downloaded the OS rather than going out and purchasing it AND would you be able to burn the download so you have the DVD to install it later etc?

Good Idea or Go Fish?

Answer:Downloading Vista - Good Idea??

Well yeah, that's the whole point of downloading it after you purchase it: burning it to blank DVD media.

Hello!

I applied for a Vista upgrade a couple of month ago and my status of the COA is validated according to the moduslink website, so it should all be fine. But Vista is already on the market and I haven't received a copy yet. Any idea when Moduslink will start to deliver the upgrade packs?

Thank you!

Alex

Answer:Any idea when Vista update will be delivered?

It seems the delivery of the Vista upgrade takes several weeks.
There are several users which have confirmed this delivery time.

In this forum area you will find the thread about phone numbers to Moduslink.
I recommend contacting this company for details...

good luck

ok before i start, i must admit; i suck with computers..
anyways
i wanted to play a LAN game with someone but it didnt work. i asked for help other places and they asked me if i was able to even share files using LAN..

and.. i just dont know how to get that done.
i have been looking at soo many posts and google links, but i still cant get it to work

this is what i have done and tried:

both firewalls are off, they are connected to a modem via LAN caples.
the second time i tried, my vista was also connected to the internet via a dial up modem.. i wanted to see if atleast i could get internet from my vista over to my xp but that didnt work.

anyways
on my Vista, in "Network and Sharing Center" the LAN network is there, and its called "unidentified network(public network)" and underneath it says Access: Local only Connection: Local area network.
on my XP, the LAN connection is also connected..
on the modem, their ports are lighting, so basicly they are connected to each other.

so now when i try to share a file from my vista over to my xp;
right click on file = Share.. = now here is the problem. i cant find anything to do with LAN. but it says that i should choose one of the users of the computer.. so maybe i cant choose the LAN? but i should be able to?
maybe its because i need to "create" a network where i can then configure it to use the LAN modem... but i dont know how to =(

on my XP.. when i go to my network places, i see alot of folders ... Read more

Answer:HELP PLS, no idea what is wrong. cant connect my Vista to my XP via LAN

Have you tried linking the two computers together with normal networking cables. You will not need modems to do this just the networking card. Make sure that both computers are on the same workgroup. The ip ranges also have to be similar.

I purchased a new computer a couple of weeks ago. Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi 1554.
Specs are:
Core 2 Duo T5600
2x 1024MB DDR2
160GB SATA
17" WUXGA
Ati X1900 256MB
Vista Home Premium

Other additional devices I have connected to the notebook with USB:
3 external HDDs.
Belkin 7-port USB hub.
Canon MP810 printer.
Logitech mouse & keyboard.
A-Link NA110U2 NIC.

Usually I get the BSOD (MULTIPLE_IRP_REQUESTS_COMPLETE) after rebooting the notebook or powering on during Windows loading screen. But I have got it also during when Windows is up and running already.

I hope there is somebody here who can understand those debuglogs and maybe give me a piece of advice as to what to do next..

Thanks a lot.

Answer:Vista BSOD and no idea why. Debuglog included.

You'll need to most some more minidump logs/files. But you can start by checking for updated drivers for all your USB devices.

Hey, Hope you are having a good day. I have just decided to reinstall Vista because of too many things that are an issue. I am NOT infected, But I believe my registry is screwed, because after I did some scans like Combofix, and AVZ, and HIJackThis. I did this trying to find out what the picky little things are that keep nagging. After I did the computer went crazy. IE 7 got messed up tried to upgrade to IE8 and when I got it installed could only run as administrator with the protected mode off. Could not turn it on, tried resetting the default settings, did not help finally did a system restore. Appears okies now BUT I think it is ony a matter of time.....NOW My question....can you give me simple tut's for a One Key Recovery Install. I have everything backed up, but in reading the book it is a bit confusing. I know there is a recovery partition in on the hard drive, and the harddrive is sufficient to handle the recovery. The only reinstall I have ever done is with XP and a recovery CD. Would appreciate any assist with this. Thanks in advance, Bama

Answer:Reinstalling Vista on the Idea Center K210

Bama, If you believe that your registry is messed up did you get any UAC prompt? Is UAC enabled in your system? After re-installing vista export your registry to another location if you want to restore it at some time. Regarding the recovery issue, there are two options for you one is the instant backup and the other is the restoring to the factory settings.Since you want to re-install vista you have to use the factory backup. Power on the computer. When the screen displays the ?Lenovo? picture initially, press the ?LVT? key on the keyboard to start the Rescue System, where youcan select OneKey Recovery. Select Recover Factory Backup to start the system recovery function.  Follow the onscreen instructions, and press E on the keyboard to start recoveryif you are sure to recover.  Please wait in the process of system recovery. Do not interrupt the operation. After the system is recovered successfully, the software prompts to restart thecomputer. Restart the computer and enter the system.   Message Edited by vijaysaradhi on 08-12-2009 05:58 PM

Dropbox + Sugarsync - running both at the same time - good idea or bad idea?
Will they both be thrashing my machine and eating up lots of CPU like a hungry monster?

Thanks
OM

Answer:Running Sugarsync + Dropbox at the same time - good idea or bad idea?

You can be specific about what each actually synchronizes so I don't see that as a CPU issue. However if using both over the Internet with one of the more substantial data plans to sync, I would wonder which gets priority or how well they share the upload bandwidth. Wouldn't be so good if one was always grabbing it to sync in the off-load times and the other just kept waiting and waiting for its turn.

Ok so here's the story: one of my handsome roommates has a computer problem. His computer tells him it's done automatically downloading some updates, asks him to restart his computer, he does, then BAM a message that pretty much says "eff you" windows has failed to boot, please insert windows vista dvd whatever. Problem is he does not have a Windows Vista dvd. Says his computer just came preinstalled with all the software and may or may not have included a disc. There's an option that allows him to restore the computer to factory settings but he doesn't want to do that cause he'll lose a lot of stuff.

Now here's what I've done so far: I googled the error (0xc000000f) and most of the websites tell me its an error with a system32 file called winload.exe that probably is missing or corrupted. He doesn't have a Windows Vista boot disk so I have a crazy idea to make one on my computer, burn it onto a cd, then pop it into his retarded computer.

Now here's what I'm curious about: My computer is a windows xp, if I back up all my files into a boot disk on my computer, will it be compatible with his windows vista? Is it even possible to create a windows vista boot disk with my windows xp computer? Anyone have any ideas on how to do it? Should I just laugh at my roommate mercilessly or is there an easier way to fix this problem?

Thank you for whoever has read this far. You rock.

I posted a subject on upgrading an Acer 300 with an AMD 64 processor to Win 7. Lots of v helpful responses, thankyou. So following on as I am not quite there yet.....Windows download advisor says that upgrading to Win 7 32 is possible, but Acers website only indicates XP 32 drivers available.(doesnt actually list the 300(?)so looked at the 340 info)Who is right. Not quite sure why acer would ship an AMD 64 bit processor and presumably compatible motherboard (?) and not have 64 bit drivers available - or does it mean I will have to look for drivers elsewhere....Last but not least if it is possible to answer this, will the bios drivers be ok for the upgrade, they are dated 12/2009 (click here)Finally many thanks to all those folks who answer queries like this on these forums, it is a great help.Mark

Answer:upgrad from XP to win 7 Part 2!

visit the motherboard manufacturer ,if there are any drivers available ,they will have them . also windows 7 comes with a whole lot of drivers covering thousands of hardware scenarios .most PCs that install windows 7 end up not needing any dditional drivers other than printer/scanner maybe.download belarc advisor (free) ,it will give you the motherboard model ,with that you can track down the important drivers ,my guess is though that win7 64bit will install most of them itself.

Question: Memory Upgrad

I am working on a Dell Dimension 2100 - 900MHz (unfortunately a Celeron). Running XP Pro, 40GB Maxtor hard drive.

It came with one 128MB RAM - PC133. It only has two memory slots. I've added another 128 to it and it works fine.

I got my hand on two sticks of 256MB RAM - PC2100, this would up the memory to 512.

The questions is...can I use this memory to replace both of the 128MB PC133 without a problem?

Thanks,

I would like to upgrade my HP 510-p030 Pavilion's graphics card.  It has an i7 processor.  The motherboard is a "Hamar" uATX. Here's the link: http://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c05066299 This computer comes with a 180w Power supply and built-in graphics card (only info on what type is Intel HD Graphics 530)  It has one PCI-E (GEN 3) x16 socket expansion slot. I would like to upgrade the graphics card as I do some video editing and it seems to be hanging too often. On my last Pavilion (an i3), changing the graphics card made a huge difference. The card I would like to get is a PNY GeForce GT 730 2GB DDR3 Graphics Card (VCGGT7302D3LXPB) (Low profile). Is this better than the built-in one? It needs a 400w+ power supply. I bought a Corsair CX450M 450 watt, 80+ bronze power supply. Can I upgrade the Power Supply without harming the motherboard? And if so, I assume the Graphics card will work as well. Any help greatly appreciated, as all I'm getting from HP tech support is that "they are not trained to discuss upgrades."

Question: Bsod memory upgrad

HELLO GAYS

Today i buy new memory 2go ddr3 when I open 3dmax pc crashed

Answer:Bsod memory upgrad

Hello,

My best guess is that the RAM you added is not the same speed of the RAM that was already installed. Download CPU-Z and post screenshots of the Memory and SPD tabs. On the SPD tab, take screenshots of both sticks of RAM (meaning you have to change the selection to the other slot).

A Preferred Method of Uploading/Posting Screen Shots

Also, while waiting for me to reply again, run Memtest86 with both sticks installed for 8 passes.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Possibly unrelated to your BSODs, AVAST was having trouble, which makes me suspect your older Realtek drivers may be causing problems. Install the latest ones from here: Realtek

I have a Compaq Presario that had a 2.7Ghz Celeron. I upgrade the RAM to 1gb years ago and recently ran across a 478 pin Pentium 4. I noticed it was much faster right awy. I never took the time to read my speed in the systems page. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 (it's like a whole new computer-that I am selling). When I look in the systems page it shows Pentium 4 3.00GHz then next to that it shows 1.49GHz (see picture). What does this mean? Am I truly getting the processors full speed?

Answer:Question about my Upgrad of my old Compaq's CPU

I think you are.

It could be some power-saving option that is causing the cpu to slow down when idle.

Hi I'm planing to build my own pc I know some of the stuff involved but what I don't know is that does it matter what voltage you power supply is is it better to have i high voltage or could that overheat. Thanks Alan

Answer:Power supplys and upgrad

If you are in the UK will can only use 220/240 Volts ac, I think you have confused it with the Wattage required. If you are building a powerful system you will need a larger supply, eg 450w up-wards. Plenty of choice click here, it is best not to buy the budget range. Spend a bit more to get a higher quality power supply. It will be more efficient and last longer.

Hey guys ive just bought a lode of new hardware..
and from what ive read & heard the best option is to do a fresh install once I install the hardware..
So my plan is to backup my data then fresh install win7 on my desktop HD

Ive just found an old laptop HD which will be wired with an IDE cable to my desktop in order to transfer data to it
This HDD has data on I dont mind bieng wiped & had XP installed on it.

So i'm wondering whether I can formatt this drive once I plug it in to my desktop with vista, then transfer my data over onto it, then unplug it, install windows 7 onto my desktop HD then transfer my files onto the desktop harddrive rom the laptop harddrive which was formatted with vista.

Will windows 7 recgonize & be able to read the files on the backup/laptop data harddrive?

(I also bought an IDE 44 to 40 pin so I can connect my 2.5" laptop HD to my desktop pc)

Answer:Vista to win7 due to new hardware & backing up with HDD formmated on vista???

So I downgraded from Vista home premium 64 bit to Vista Ultimate 32 bit, because of software compatibility issues that wouldn't work with 64. I did an entire clean install of 32 and it was successful. However now my wireless & ethernet device drivers are missing, so I can't connect to the internet. Further when I go to the "Device Manager" it lists these non functional hardware under "Other" and has absolutely no information about them under properties. So I don't even know what brand, model, etc the devices are and have no way of knowing what drivers I even need to install. This also happened to my video controller, so the screen resolution only goes up to 1024 and also has no info on which drivers i need.

Any idea how I can fix this?

I am very very confused.I have a MSI 7046 motheboard, it is a 3.06GHz Pentiunm 4 with a 533MHz  FSB. 512Mb RAMI want to add another 512Mb RAM to my PC.I have used PCwizard, Everest, and the Crucial scan tool, and looked in Bios and it says PC3200Is the current RAM in my PC running at PC3200? or is it running at the slower PC2100 (or even PC2700).The reason I ask is that I have a spare 512Mb stick of PC2100 in a old PC, I didnt want to put it in as thought it would slow down too much and not match the bus speeds or whatever. Can someone please help, what speed is the factory built memory running at? if you download CPUz (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) This is what it states on the memory page (sorry cant find how to insert an image)Frequency: 133MHzFSB:DRAM 1:1on the CPU page it statesCore SPeed 3059MHzMultiplier x23FSB 133MHzBus Speed 532MHz If the current 512Mb speed is only running at PC2100 (although the actual stick can run at PC3200) I may as well use the stick I have and not have to buy another one.Basic question is: what speed is the current 512Mb stick inside running? PC2100,PC2700 or PC3200?If its at it full speed of PC3200 then I need to buy anohter one, if its running at PC2100 beacuse of the speed of the FSB anyway, I will install my spre PC2100. hope someone can put me out of my miserythanksAndy

Answer:What speed is my memory running at so I can upgrad

Why do you think it is PC2100? I never did follow that one. They're all about the same cost, just get the PC3200 that crucial recommends.

I have a desktop that I ran the update on from windows 7 to windows 10.

When I go to shutdown it appears to begin the shutdown process. However, after a few moments with black screens the PC shows the BIOS splash screen and begins to start windows.
If I leave the PC alone for a while, it goes to the login screen, where it attempts to sleep only to end up right back at the login.

I have tried
- Turning off fast startup - Doing this results in apple sys error on restart (I do not have iTunes installed)
- Disabling wakeup by keyboard, network devices, and mouse.
- Turning off quick start in bios

I am now wondering if a clean install is my only option, or if there is some other way of keeping windows 10... just having it work properly.

Answer:PC will not shutdown or hybernate (only restarts) since 7 to 10 upgrad

So I have been tinkering, and I did what I should have done in the very beginning; I installed the usb driver from the manufacturer of the motherboard's website.

Since there was no Windows 10 driver, I used the 8.1 64. I have now had two successful shutdowns.

I see now that the processors have a Microsoft driver from 2009, so I am thinking I will install the 2013 chipset driver from the manufacturer of the motherboard's website.

I may just leave well enough alone though, as it feels pretty good to have my pc working again!

Hi

I purchased a Toshiba Satelite P200-140 about a year ago with 2Gb RAM as standard equipment, knowing that I could upgrade to 4Gb when necessary. It has now become necessary but after trying to install any compatible RAM from various PC shops, the computer do not even startup with anything more than 2Gb of RAM inserted.

I have been told by one supplier that the BIOS version 1.7 needs to be upgraded to allow the machine to "see" the additional RAM. Is this so, and can anyone tell me or send me the correct link to download the correct BIOS upgrade?

Thank you very much.

Answer:Memory Upgrad to 4GB on Satellite P200-140

Your notebook can be upgraded to 4GB maximum amount of RAM. It has to meet the following specifications: PC2-5300 DDR2-667 200pin SODIMM
Have you tried to use first one RAM and start, then use the other one, just to make sure, none of the two modules is dead? Even try switching the memory slots.

Usually running the Factory Restore from the included partition will do that but your documentation for the Notebook/Laptop should mention how to get started, different brands tend to do such things differently.
