My Windows 7 copy looks counterfeit. Typo on back cover. Came from China (eBay). Pics

Question: My Windows 7 copy looks counterfeit. Typo on back cover. Came from China (eBay). Pics

So I decided to buy Windows 7 from eBay. I didn't trust the people selling product keys only, so I purchased a brand new retail package. When I shop on eBay, I always look for sellers that are really close to me so shipping is fast. So I found a seller, said to be located in Maryland (which is two states away from me), with a great price and great feedback for his W7 sells. I was pissed because when the guy sent me the tracking number, I found out that the item was coming from Beijing, China, not Maryland! But I figured, well at least he shipped it.

THEN, I get an email from eBay saying the listing for the item I just purchased because the copyright holder reported that the item may be a counterfeit. At first I was pissed at eBay because now I had to record of the transaction in my eBay account and could not contact the seller directly from within the item invoice, since eBay deleted. Plus, he had several other sells of this same item, all with positive feedback of the W7 package, and eBay did not remove the listings for them. So I was like, why me? Luckily, I had his email from paypal and contacted him. He assured me that he is the legal owner of the item and that he sent proof to eBay saying so. Still never got my records back.

Anyway, this prompted me to search counterfeit Windows 7 retail packages. I found some interesting info, but my package doesn't fit any of the counterfeit profiles Microsoft says to look out for. The top hologram is built onto the cds, not stickers. Both my CD's have holograms on the small inner ring on the data side of the disks. The COA has the correct print inter-wooven into it and says Made in Puerto Rico. The Product Key passed PID check and activation. The three digit key everyone talks about is 068 (not 065, 066, or 067). And overall, the package looks extremely genuine...unless you actually look for counterfeit features, which I have found that leads me to believe this was not made by Microsoft.

Firstly, the MAJOR thing I found that prompted this whole suspicion. On the back cover, in the second foot not under the features bullet list, there is a TYPO. Referring to XP Mode, it is says "2. Requires download of Windows XP Mode (which tuns on Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate)..." Notice it says "tuns on Windows 7..." instead of "runs on Windows 7..."! Being that the T key is right next to the R on a QWERTY keyboard, this leads me to believe this is human error. Aren't these things manufactured in a factory or something, by robots and machines...and Quality Controlled??? Also, all the text under the bullet list is not that sharp, like it was printed on an inkjet. Also, all that text under the bullet list is yellow. I believe on a genuine copy, that text is white, no? Here is the picture link:

Here's the front cover. Nothing really to note here, that I can see:

Another major flaw I found was on the top of the 32-Bit disc. Notice that in relation to the Microsoft/Genuine hologram at the top right and the large Windows 7 hologram at the bottom, the text on the center of the disc is is upside down and some of the black coating is chipped off:

The 64-Bit disc is just about perfect, other than some slight chipping of the black coating:

The COA looks really authentic other than the barcode being shaped different than the one on the Windows 7 counterfeit page, even though the SKU number is the same. Another interesting note, if I take my barcode scanner app on my iphone and scan the barcode on the MS website, it comes up as "Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Full (From $137 online / $269.99 local)." When I scan the barcode on my physical COA, I get "Windows 7 Ult English DVD (From $85 online)." I don't know what the different could be, because the SKU numbers in the barcodes match.

Another thing I noticed was some ink smeared on a page of the information booklet.

Lastly, the text and pictures in the info booklet are not that clear and look like poor inkjet printing:

So, what do you guys think? I'm scared to report this to MS in fear of them making my key blacklisted. But I am also afraid that my key might get blacklisted in the future, even though it doesn't have characteristics of an MSDN product key! Other than that stuff I noticed, it installed fine!

Preferred Solution: My Windows 7 copy looks counterfeit. Typo on back cover. Came from China (eBay). Pics

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: My Windows 7 copy looks counterfeit. Typo on back cover. Came from China (eBay). Pics

It's fake, that's pretty obvious. The hologram thing is most likely a sticker on top of the actual disc surface - you can use a fingernail or razor blade at the very edge and lift it up a bit, that's 100% proof. The part numbers don't seem to match up with the actual Windows 7 Ultimate part number, and it just has a fake quality all the way around.

If you contact Microsoft, show them the pics, explain where you bought it from and your situation, there is a small - small but it exists - chance they'll provide you with a key just for making the report and identifying the seller you got it from.

No guarantees, but at the moment you're better off reporting it to them and going from there. Sure can't hurt to let them know, either way.

I'd report it, personally, without even really thinking about it. It just SCREAMS fake.

I'm concerned about a Windows 7 Retail package I purchased on eBay. The seller's location is listed as Pennsylvania, however the item ended up dropshipping from Shenzen, China. After contacting the seller, she told me she actually lives in Georgia, not Pennsylvania, and assured me that it was an official Microsoft 7 Retail package and not a counterfeit/fake.

Does anyone know where the Microsoft 7 Windows packages are produced? Are they made in the US? or overseas?

Answer:I purchased Windows 7 off eBay; shipping from Shenzen China

Sounds shady. I'd file a paypal claim. Did you pay via CC?

I built a new PC a little over 2 years now and bought everything, nothing was second hand or salvaged from other computers. I have never had any issues with my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 till now. I received my copy in a sealed case and with the key sticker on the outside still intack. About a month ago I started having issues with not being able to install any updates and did not think anything this serious. I ran some virus scans with no viruses found. I use Avast and SpyBit S&D.

I contacted Microsoft to try to get it resolved only to get the reply of "you have a counterfeit copy". After hours of reading forums and trying to re-apply my key, I have come to the conclusion that I may have contracted a virus of some sort. So my next course of action is to go ahead and do a full reinstall. Though I do not want do reinstall only for it to say this is a fake copy again. So maybe someone out there has a solution for me.

The box was sealed, but serial, part, and model numbers do not match the label on the box. Also the manual has a different model number written on the back. Weighs 8.9 oz but I have read genuine adapters weigh 11 oz. Outputs 20.17V. Can anyone verify if this is genuine ? I am almost certain it's fake. But a very good fake. Seller claims he is a lenovo partner, and that it couldn't possibly be fake. Has sold to 333 other ebayers. http://postimg.org/image/50v93x4uv/http://postimg.org/image/3xb4ryk7r/http://postimg.org/image/eiqeq815j/http://postimg.org/image/4cmekz653/http://postimg.org/image/f203d8hxz/http://postimg.org/image/8n12gkb87/http://postimg.org/image/xvlwa8g5z/

Answer:Counterfeit AC adapters from ebay

I'm not sure about your specific case, but the replacements lenovo sells seem to be rebranded generics and do often weigh less. The best option to source one (in my opinion) is to get a good used original or an unissued original.  However there is a huge problem with fake parts coming from China. They can come in unchecked in personal shipments and there was a lot of fake batteries sold on ebay and you can be sure if they fake the lenovo logo they also fake the UL labs and RoHS certifications.

Hi,

Recently went to re-install XP home on two new WD hard drives in my Dell 4700.

Problems

1) MS activation and registration advised that the licence number I used from the label stuck on the tower was illegal and I was using a counterfeit copy of XP

2) M$ advised tthat the original installed copy of XP, licence number obtained using Belarc from original HD which I put back in temporarily, was an illegal copy.

3) Licence number on my tower is legal, but will not install using OEM supplied CD's or another Dell supplied M$ XP home cd.

If your computer came pre installed and activated I'd advise one and all to check that the icence number on the tower or base of laptop matches the licence number that can be extracted or displayed using software such as the Belarc Advisor or Magic Jelly bean finder.

Dell have agreed to send me another copy of XP Home with a different licence number in case I do ever need to re-install.

Meanwhile Norton GHost has proven its worth yet again.

Ceri

Lets be careful out there.

So, I spilled soda on my laptop yesterday and I have cleaned up everything and the keys are working fine, except the enter button. I want to access the keyboard to see if there is soda inside the computer. How do I remove the back cover without dealing damage? Second question, how do I remove the enter key? I got all the other keys off, but it won't come off.  Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Recently went to re-install XP home on two new WD hard drives in my Dell 4700.

Thought I may as well go with a clean install, instead of cloning using using Ghost 2003 or Acronis True Image.

Then restore any data I needed to restore, from backups.

Problems

1) MS activation and registration advised that the licence number I used from the label stuck on the tower along with the CD's that came with the machine was illegal and I was using a counterfeit copy of XP.

Label was read carefully by my wife and by myself using a magnifying glass. We both agreed on the licence number on the label.

2) M$ advised tthat the original installed copy of XP, licence number obtained using Belarc from original HD which I put back in temporarily, was an illegal copy.

3) Licence number on my tower is however legal, but would not install using OEM supplied CD's or another Dell supplied M$ XP home cd. My wife let me use the O/S CD we have for her laptop, also a Dell.

I had put a second Maxtor hard drive n the D4700, but had taken both out to replace them with WD's due to concerns about their long term reliability and odd error messages.

If your computer came pre installed and activated I'd advise one and all to check that the icence number on the tower or base of laptop matches the licence number that can be extracted or displayed using software such as the Belarc Advisor or Magic Jelly bean finder.

Answer:Alleged counterfeit copy of XP Home

Many OEMs install Windows along with assorted applications using an image and do an unattended installation using Volume License Keys (throw it in, start the setup, leave it to its lonesome until it's done). Many times the special "have Windows with your system for cheap" deals are from using VLKs. Using VLKs for unattended installations makes things a lot easier because you don't have to have a technician manually enter a unique key for every system built, or construct unique answer files and/or UDFs.

Using an OEM-supplied XP CD commonly has a version of Windows that accepts VLKs. However the key supplied on the holographic sticker on your tower is probably a regular individual key, not a VLK, and as such may only work with a regular non OEM-made XP CD. In essence, this is why the key used on your machine from the original install and the key on your tower differ.

There are also currently issues with the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool that incorrectly identify legitimate installed copies of Windows as counterfeit, which may be the case.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Hi,

I'm currently using FF as my default browser and it won't display any of the pictures or colours or stuff on Ebay, but if I open it in IE, they work. I'm guessing it's some sort of setting, and had a look at the Javascrip console in the program, and it has errors for all the pictures. Most of them say "Error in parsing value for property" and a couple say "Unknown property". I think this is the only site I'm having trouble with, or at least it's the only that is so noticeable.

Am running a Pentium 4, 2.66Ghz with XP Home SP2.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Smiles!

My boss has found a large gigabit router on ebay for a crazy good price (he thinks that the guy who sold it didnt quite realize what he was selling), but we have run into a problem.

We dont know how to make the thing work. It turns on, and if we plug our internet into one of the ports on the front, then plug our devices into it (like a laptop), then it will get a signal and a ping, assigns an IP, but there is no default gateway IP address.

The company that made the device is called Torrent, and the router is called the IP 9000. After doing extensive research, we have found that only around 50 of these things made before Torrent was bought out by Cisco, and there are no service manuels, online tutorials, instructions, anything. I was wondering if any one of you have ever seen, worked with, or at least have some kind of advice on how to get this thing working so it can drive the network for our business.

Here are some pictures:

We suspect that we plug our internet into the back in here, but we are not exactly sure as to where or how to get that to work:

So yeah, thinking it goes down somewhere in the bottom. Please, someone reply with something because we are out of ideas and I know there are guys around on these forums who have worked with this kind of stuff before.

Answer:Found rare gigabit router on ebay...in need of help (PICS)

I don't see a console port or anything on it... You might trying to ping to the first IP in the DHCP range, or the last IP, and maybe the router is sitting there and can be telnet'ed to. Good luck.

When I try to upload pictures of my item to sell on a site such as ebay or craigs list, the order defaults to the size of the files even though I want them in order by when I took them (I don't modify my pictures). I can right click and change the order to which I want, but is there a way to make the order stay by time taken? It used to stay in that order until a few days ago, and then suddenly stopped, and seems to default by picture size every time. I cannot find a place in my internet options to set a default for the box that pops up to select the pictures to upload.

Source: Maxthon Browser Sends Sensitive Data to China | SecurityWeek.Com

Researchers at Fidelis Cybersecurity and Poland-based Exatel recently found that Maxthon regularly sends a file named ueipdata.zip to a server in Beijing, China, via HTTP. Further analysis revealed that ueipdata.zip contains an encrypted file named dat.txt. This file stores information on the operating system, CPU, ad blocker status, homepage URL, websites visited by the user (including online searches), and installed applications and their version number.

While dat.txt is encrypted, experts easily found the key needed to decrypt it, giving them access to the information. Exatel researchers demonstrated how a man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacker could intercept the data as it travels from the client to the Maxthon server in China.Click to expand...

This is not the first time researchers have raised concerns about web browsers developed by Chinese companies. Experts at the University of Toronto?s Citizen Lab have identified security and privacy issues in several popular Chinese browsers, including QQ Browser, UC Browserand Baidu Browser.

I used Maxthon very briefly, and the UI was ugly and it ran slow. This just reaffirms why I'll never touch it again.

So I was browsing around in Windows Defender (Windows Settings > Update & Security > Windows Defender > Open Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings, then scroll down to Controlled folder access.)

The sentence "Protect your files and folders from unauthorized changed by unfriendly applications" has a typo in it.
(Refer to the attached picture)

Either:
? The word "changed" has a typo in it and should be the word "changes" (with an 's' instead of a 'd'), or
? There is at least one missing word in between the words "unauthorized" & "changed"
Somebody should inform Microsoft about this typo.

But Also: I noticed that this is a new option, since the last time I was browsing around in there. What does this option exactly do? It was originally off, but I turned it On. Yet I must say that I have seen a few messages pop up in the right corner of the screen, stating that Windows Defender blocked some programs from making changes. One of them showed explorer.exe from modifying the Favorites folder without me doing anything with Favorites. Exactly what does this option do? Is it kind of like some sort of strict "Firewall"? Because if so, then I like that.

Answer:HAH, I Found A Typo In Windows!

Mine says 'unauthorised' (but then it should in the UK) - still has the typo though

Blocks access to your files and documents by unknown apps (malware/ransomware). It's off by default because not all 'good' apps are in it's 'trusted' list. It takes a bit of fiddling to get all your apps to work after you turn it on.

If I buy a Legit copy of xp sp2 from ebay can I use the key to validate a "vlk" install?Brad,Above us only Sky.

Answer:Buy legit copy of XP off eBay & use VLK key?

VLK stands for Volume License Keys. You have to setup a software contract with a corporate dealer like ASAP Dell Software. Then you can buy a VLK for as many computers you wish to install the app on. They send you one disk or ISO and it will alow you to install as many times as you like using that VLK. Just be prepared if they decide to do a software audit, to show your certificate for the number of licenses you have.http://portal.asap.com/en-us/pages/..."If I buy a Legit copy of xp sp2 from ebay can I use the key to validate a "vlk" install?"To answer your question, no unless the copy you buy is a VLK version and not an OEM disk. If you have a lagit VLK and just lost your disk you can get the software company to send you another media for around $25 to cover shipping and handling. Although I never recommend doing this, you can download a VLK ISO off of a bit torrent and use your key instead of the the one provided. Just remember, bit torrents are not legal but download the ISO and useing your key is on the grey side of the law.

I'm a gen. contractor and I take a lot of pics of jobs. I know how to edit, save, and print them, but I do not know how to burn them to a cd. They are takeing up a lot of space on my c drive and I would like to get them off but still be able to use them when needed. My wife has a couple of music burning programs but she can't help me. Some pro tips would be great. We may even have the soft ware to do it with and just don't know it.
I'm not the sharpest knife in the box when it comes to the tech end of computers so bare with me and please talk to me like a dummy, so I can understand what you're saying.
Thanks.

If someone has gone to the trouble of making them non-copyable then its most likely breaching their copyright to try and copy them... yes their is a possible way or two.. but I wont go into it for legal and moral sake sorry!

A friend of mine asked me an interesting question I'm not sure how to respond. he asked if you have a windows installation on your computer and a portable windows XP could you use the portable windows to do a copy paste back up of the windows installation on the computer? He wants to have a simple way to back up his computer so when it crashes 2 days aren't flushed reinstalling crap.

I thought if you have the proper rights you would be able to since to the computer the OS is just data read so copy and paste for a back up should work right? as long as it is only used on the same physical computer. or am I missing something?

It will work, however, with the user's data files.Instead, a good way to back up your programmes with Windows 7 (which I'm guessing is the main computer's OS) is to use the System image backup utility.Casey

I downloaded the program 'advanced windows care pro 2.9' from the cover disc of PCAdvisor AUG2009.When prompted to enter the 'activation code',I 'copy and pasted' it into the relevant box, only to be told that it was an invalid code.I thought that I may have missed one of the digits off when I copied the code to the box,so I then typed the code number in manually.Same result:- invalid code.I already have the 'free' version on my PC,which I have found to be an excellent program, however, I would really like to have the 'extras' that the 'pro' version contains. Please help,if you can. Thank you. maljosie

Can someone tell me how to replace the key cover onto a laptop computer please? It doesn't appear to be broken, but it is off. It has two silver colored things on the keyboard and the cover has a white plastic insert that corresponds with the silver parts on the keyboard.

Answer:Solved: My F key cover came off and I don't know how to put it back on

Pop the white part off of the bottom of the key and put it on those metal clips on the laptop, being careful not to bend the clips. If they break, you'll need a new keyboard.

After the clip is on there, line the key up on top of it and snap it on.

Should be pretty easy, just don't rush and push too hard.

So I've been trying to troubleshoot this issue for quite some time. Previously I had used an application called KillCopy, as I had thought it would speed up the copying of files between my portable hard drive and my PC when I had Windows Vista. I know it's not going to be the fastest, however I felt that it was much slower than it should be and also that Vista was notoriously slow when copying large amounts of data.

I've previously installed Windows 7, and wanted to go ahead and remove killcopy. From what I can find, there is no uninstall manager, and there is nothing listed in Add / Remove programs. As a test, I've renamed the killcopy directory to "KillcopyX", and now when I go to copy files Killcopy won't run but neither will the traditional manager that displays from within Windows.

Is there any way that I can permanently remove this application, and restore the windows file manager to handling the copy process? Perhaps a registry change or something?

Thanks!

Answer:Un-integrating KillCopy and going back to Windows copy manager?

reinstall KillCopy then uninstall?
how is it on your Win7 install if you had installed it under Vista? did you do an in-place upgrade from Vista to 7?

Hi,

I have a P300-01S (Canada). There is a second drive bay, including the sata/power connectors.
I've installed a second hard drive (64gb SSD), and it works just fine.

However, the cover for the drive bay will not fit back on. The cover has 5 pegs that prevent it from being put back on if a drive is in the bay. I believe the pegs are there to provide support to the cover when no drive is in there.

I see no way to remove these other then to snap them off. Any ideas?
These are not the normal tabs on the edges that are used to hold the cover in place, these are 1/2" long cylindrical pegs in the middle of the drive bay cover.

Answer:Satellite P300-01S: Second HDD cover will not fit back on

Found another thread about this, it seems others are just cutting off the pegs, I will do the same I guess.

Yes we can get you the Manual and plastic case parts are available but parts do not just "come loose". Either somebody is secretly taking a screwdriver to it while you are not looking or there is a failure somewhare in the hinge system which can work screws loose. Can we have a little more description or perhaps a picture? Page 18 here has an exploded diagram with the parts. Can you point out what is coming apart and how? Hi, Im replacing the lid back cover of my touch y50-70. The question is: Is a lid back cover of a touch y50-70 the same of a non-touch one? Whats different?   Thanks a lot.

Answer:Lenovo y50-70 touch lid back cover

Hi delta_rob ,

Greetings.

Checked on both system based on Hardware manuals (Page 34-35 base cover , page 83Y50-70/Y50-80/Y50-70 Touch/Y50-80 Touch) and they have same manuals too.
Both have same part number : 5CB0F78813  ( Item16 Lower Case C Y50-70 (Y50-70/Y50-80/Y50-70 Touch/Y50-80 Touch)

Checked with serviceable parts using sample machine numbers  on both models :

LENOVO Y50-70 Machine number 59413538 BASE COVER 5CB0F78813 LOWER CASE C Y50-70

LENOVO Y50-70TOUCH Machine number :59421810BASE COVER 5CB0F78813 LOWER CASE C Y50-70

So most likely no difference for as long as you have the same part number .

Hope this answered your query.

Answer:Which back cover color for lumia 620 !!

Hmmm...never had either...best thing is to see it in person at a local phone shop. Personally I would go for yellow. The green is unique and no one has it...but I think yellow just looks better. Plus is it glossy or matt finished as that also makes a big difference. But check it at a phone store tho.

Hi, My T440s came with a broken (a tiny crack but still) back cover. The support wasn't able to find the part number. So they want to exchange the whole computer which, to me, looks like a huge waste of money and time for everyone - it's only 8 screws and a piece of plastic that they could send over to me. Does anyone know what FRU pert number the back cover is?

Answer:Back cover broken/cracked

I think you may be able to find it in the manual. But because the computer is so new, they may not be familiar with the part number. You would think it would be an easy look up (because that is how one would get familiar over time time) but  hey can't win sometimes. I would hate to do a replacement as that would be time with out my computer.

I'm under the impression, to get the front cover off, you need to remove the "back" or "rear" panel first(.i.e. not the one you can remove with a Torx  15 Screwdriver...The other panel.) That way, once removed, you can loosen the3 tabs on each side of the front panel, to remove it. To have a look at the rear of my computer, although it's not my computer, it looks exactly the same. He shows the rear of the case, around 50 sec. into the video...Are those some type of screws? YouTube Video Thanks in advance, Chef_D

I just bought a TP Yoga 14. I'm looking to replace the hard drive with an SSD. I checked out a youtube video and I just need to remove 8-10 screws on the back cover and lift it out from the hinge all the way round. But for some reason, I cannot unscrew the tiny screws and have them removed. I'm using a 00 screwdriver but I've tried others. It looks as though the screws are unscrewed, but they don't pop out, even if I whack the back of the case with my hand. I've tried using some pliers to knock against the screwdriver to wedge it in and turn it using the pliers, as I've seen in some videos but it doesn't seem to be helping. If there is an automatic screwdriver and size I should be using or something else which I can buy (amazon, home depot), just let me know. thanks

Can you post your full model number? This is the one for the Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM, 20DN).

I bought this laptop a year and a half ago and have been very careful with it, I've never dropped it, or taken it many places, but a few month ago I noticed the bottom right edge of the back over wasn't attached so I just popped it back in, it wasn't a big deal so I didn't worry about it.  Then yesterday it popped back off again but this time it was much bigger and I couldn't pop it back in no matter how hard I tried! I took it to staples to see if they could fix it and the guy there said it would take 2-3 weeks and 300$ I can't afford that, and I just bought this laptop last year!  Everything else about it still works fine, the screen isn't cracked, and the keys still work.

Im trying to remove the cover of my Y500 to upgrade to an SSD and I have all but one screw out... The screw between the 2nd video card bay and the yellow USB slot has this red "bulb" type thing covering the screw. Can I just try and pry it out?

Answer:Removing Ideapad U410 back cover

Check out this Lenovo video for servicing the Y500.  Under the FPU Videos heading there will be a video on how to remove the back cover.   http://service.lenovo.partner-management.com/content/CourseWarePublic/16538/player.html

I bought a new Thinkpad Edge E545 from Amazon two days ago, and it arrived in the mail this morning.  I also purchased an additional 4 GB memory card to install.  I followed the instructions in the User Manual about Replacing a Memory Module (on page 81).  I started out by attempting to loosen the screws on the back cover.  I used the correct size screwdriver, and three of the four screws loosened quickly and easily.  But, the fourth screw wouldn't loosen, and now it looks like the screw is stipped (or at least partially stripped). Any thoughts on how to proceed?  Since the laptop is brand new, I don't want to have to take it to Microcenter and pay them $100 to get the screw out for me.  But, I also want to have the additional memory card installed (which I can do myself if I could just get the screw out).

Please NOTE...  opening Y410 Ultrabook yourself probably voids the warranty.

I am just trying to install some RAM in my computer. I read the User Guide. It told me how to remove the screws and the back cover. I removed the screws, but the back cover won't come off. Also, I could not find any screws after the optical drive was removed, so maybe there still are two screws there.

I'm very dissapointed with Lenovo's product quality. I tried to open the back cover of my U400 and it didn't go very well. I followed the instructions exactly as mentioned on the official videos, taking every single step carefully. However, it's impossible to remove the bottom cover without breaking the plastic tabs. I have yet to hear from someone who has managed to do flawleslly. Anyway, besides this, the battery life is nowhere near 7 hours as Lenovo claims. I can get maybe 4 tops if the screen brightness is turned all the way down, no apps runnig, and wifi radio and bluetooth turned off. I haven't changed any internal components or anything. Would Lenovo accept this return?

Answer:Return U400 after opening the back cover.

Why did you try to open the back cover? It would be really difficult to get a return on the machine if you broke something.

Hi,my name is Miguel and this is my first time posting on the lenovo community page.I had bought a Lenovo IdeaPad P580 last year at Best Buy and had already gone through the 1-year warranty.Recently my screen had broke, so I took it to a computer repair store to get it fixed and they had actually broken my hinges! Unfortunatly signing a statement saying that they are not liable to any damage during the repair, they had broken both of my hinges and the lcd back cover. Even afterwards, they wanted to charge $280 for the repair for the hinges and the back cover, but failed to because the parts were out of stock.I had tried looking for the parts myself and found the hinges here (http://www.lenovospareparts.com/90201003--LCD-HINGE-H-QIWY9_p_773.html), but couldn't find the metal back cover. Is there any affordable or just a way to fix this screen? I already have a new lcd screen, but the screws and hinges are not bought. Thanks for your guys' time.

You can find an image to identify the part and get the part number you need for reference.

Hi, I got my Lenovo U430 in US however now I am in London, UK. My laptop back cover seems to be broken/hinge gone missing/broken.I don't know the exact problem but I can't close the top screen lid without having the risk of breaking it. I am struck with my laptop being struck to my desk as a desktop now since I can't close the lid. Any suggestions how to get it fixed? As it seems, the back cover would need to be replaced howver the screen and backcover seem to be a single unit in this piece. Please help.Thanks.Saurabh Wadhawan
