Buying full version of Windows7: Retail version or System Builders version?

Question: Buying full version of Windows7: Retail version or System Builders version?

I built a new pc a month ago and have been running Win7 RC1 on it for the time being. Obviously Win7 is coming out next week so I am getting ready to purchase the full version. I could buy the Retail version of Win7 Home Premium 64-bit for $199, or the System Builders version for $99 on newegg.

Can anybody go ahead and buy the System Builders version, or is that restricted to actual pc resellers? Would newegg ask me for a resellers license or something if I try to order it? I built the pc, don't need MS support for it, and will only ever use that copy of Win7 on that pc. I just hate spending twice as much money for the Retail version if legally I can buy and use the System Builders version for half the price. Or am I better off paying more money for the Retail version?

Also, if I can buy the System Builders version, I assume it will come with the install dvd as well as install key? Plus, with that, I can install that copy on just this pc as many times as I want without limitations, correct? Meaning, I usually format and reload windows on a pc twice a year so over 4-5 years I will be reinstalling that copy of windows on the same pc 8-10 approx over the years.

Preferred Solution: Buying full version of Windows7: Retail version or System Builders version?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Buying full version of Windows7: Retail version or System Builders version?

Anyone can buy an OEM license. They're cheaper because they don't include Microsoft support. You are your support. OEM licenses are tied to the hardware on which they're installed. Technically you are prohibited from installing an OEM copy on a completely different system, though many people will do this and successfully activate their copy by saying their motherboard failed and had to be replaced, etc.

Okay, here's another one:

I'm coming across something called 'system builder' versions of win 7. I'm trying to figure out where or if I can get win 7 home premium that I can move from one computer at a time to another if necessary. Can anyone help me? What are 'system builder' versions. Is there a 'regular' version that I can buy like anyone else and install it on my machine?

Using it with parallels desktop 9 on my mac.

Answer:Where can I buy the full retail version of 7 -- not system builders

I haven't seen them listed for sale for over a year. But we hear lately that they are allowing retail OEM to move now when using MS phone Activation. Either way it may be the only option since they still think their only popular OS is being phased out, even as business moves off of XPired almost entirely into Win7.

I am running an "Anytime Upgrade" version of Windows 7 Professional. I have since discovered that sysprep does not function (or is disabled) on "Anytime Upgrade" versions of Windows 7. In other words, if I had purchased a physical
copy of Windows 7 professional then sysprep would be available. Since I did not, sysprep is not available.

Question: If I purchased a full retail version of Windows 7 Ultimate and upgraded my current version of Windows 7 Professional using that DVD could I then regain a working sysprep feature on my laptop?

Thank you in advance. I would upgrade to Windows 10, but my graphics card is not supported by Windows 10. I receive an error from Windows 10 Upgrade .... "Windows 10 is not compatible with your graphics card".

Any workarounds or advice would be appreciated.

going to buy full version soon but will do i need to unistall my trial version and download new kaspersky full version?

Answer:buying full kaspersky version, do i need to unistall trial version?

If you already have the trial version of the Kaspersky product you want to buy, you can leave it installed and enter the licence key to activate it, simple as that. However, if you buy an edition different than the one you have in trial, then you'll need to uninstall the trial edition and install the edition you'll buy.

Hi,
I have a question about the Oem and Retrail of O.S. Windows7 .
The first question is: What is Oem and what is Retrail.?
Than the second: What is the difference between Windows7 Home Premium and Professional and also the next:
Windows7 Ultimate .?
If you do know, I build a new Computer and by a new one, must also a new O.S.
Or I like it or I don't, but it is a fact, when I don't buy, than is there a time, that I must, because, Windows Xp and Vista are a dead goose, soon, so it is better, when I have the built new one, I use also a new O.S.
Now do I hope, that you can tell me more, what the difference is.
I thank you for your time and see your reply on my post, soon, I hope.

Answer:Windows7 Oem and Retail version and further

Take a look here: An Explanation of Oem, Upgrade, Academic, And Full Versions of softwareFull version would be a retail version.Short explanation:An OEM version is tied to the hardware it is installed on and support is by the vendor that supplied it. A Retail version install is not wedded to the original hardware and may be moved to new hardware as long as it is uninstalled on the previous machine. Support with a full/retail version is by Microsoft.

Is there a difference between the MSDN subscription version of Vista Ultimate and the Retail version that would cause the Virtual Server2005 R2 SP1 installation to fail on a PC upgraded from Home Premium (retail version) to Ultimate (MSDN subscription version)?

I have a Vista x64 Home Premium that came loaded with software from the manufacturer that I would lose if I were to overwrite it by a new installation from my MSDN subscription version of Vista Ultimate.

If I install Vista Ultimate as a brand new installation, Virtual Server installation works fine.

But if I install Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 after I upgraded Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate, I get the following error at the last phase of the installation: ?Windows Installer has stopped working? and then it sends to Microsoft the attached 3 files.

I even tried Windows Installer 4.5 but it did not work either:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4&displaylang=en

Any idea why the upgraded version fails to install Virtual Server 2005 whereas the brand new installation of the MSDN subscription Vista Ultimate works?

Running Win98SE at present, I'd like to upgradesoon to XP Pro and have seen ads recently for not retail box software, but a cheaper version, provided I also buy a unit that involves opening the pc box to install.I'm quite happy doing that, but wonder if there are hidden catches in the ad's offer?Being a Scot,:-}(I thought that would go down well...) I'm happy to find an ecomonic solutionif there are no real drawbacks.Grateful for any advixe, please.

Answer:Buying the 'not retail box' version of software

Guessing that it's OEM software? These are cut price versions, minus the box, support and manuals, that are sold to Original Equipment Manufacturers. There is no real drawbacks except if anything goes wrong you have to help your self. Also Windows and Office versions that have product activation will be tied to that machine forever, you won't be able to put them on a new machine if your old one dies.A few questions though (your not the only cautious Scot round here!)Are you getting the actual Windows XP pro disk? Most OEM products have to be sold with a hard drive or similar "essential" PC component to qualify to sell OEM software to customers. On the other hand if you are getting a hard drive with XP pro loaded onto the hard disk and no actual Windows CD avoid like the plague!!If you are getting the disk then you don't have to put the component in as well for it to work.As an example I bought an OEM copy of Windows XP pro for my laptop. It came with a Hard drive that was a wapping 250 MB in size, not much use eh? Aside from the fact I cannot use the HD in a laptop it had to be sold as part of the deal to sell an OEM bit of software. One last tip, if your planing on getting a larger hard drive now would be a very good time to do it as yo'll have trouble (if not impossibilties) moving an OEM copy of Windows XP pro from your current disk to a new one.Hope this has been useful, thought sorry it's gibbered on for a bit.Cheers,Paul

Hello,

I was updating my operating system Windows XP Pro SP2 on microsoft updates. After the 7 updates downloaded, it starts installation automatically....unfortunately my system crashed at the same time. Now Windows is not starting when I turn on my computer. I was considering a system restore...but Windows doesnt start even in safe mode...nothing is loading at all...a file must be corrupt or damage in the boot sequence so Windows cannot start. I cannot boot from the Windows CD and proceed to repair...I dont have the CD...operating system was already on the used PC.

So now I want to buy Windows XP SP2 legal and install it on my PC so it will overwrite my illegal version. I want to know which one is more suitable...Full retail version or OEM version...I dont know the difference ...

Thank you

what's the difference with an oem with a full retail version? are they the same and how do you differentiate which is which?

Answer:what's the difference with an oem with a full retail version?

Most time nothing other than the packaging and bundled stuff....and sometimes the warrenty is less or there is no tech support, but normally it is the same item without the extra packaging. Most retailers (newegg etc.) will id whether or not the item is retail or oem. For example XP costs around $300+ retail.....the oem is $139 but MS will offer little or no tech support for an oem version and will charge you more for a replacement disk if it is lost or damaged, much the same for components

Recently I saw a posting about digital river offering 29.99 for anyone with a student email address. You had to go to the website and choose which version and whether or not you wanted the 64bit or 32 bit upgrade. I placed the order and then called Microsoft Store to cancel my previous preorder. When I told they why the said they can offer me the full retail version at the same price. I signed up and cancelled my order with digital river.

Here is what you do:
1. Make sure you have a valid email address with .edu
2. Make sure you have your student ID ready.
3. Call 1-877-696-7786
4. Tell them you want to purchase the full retail version of either Home Premium of Professional. Why anyone would not choose Pro is beyond me.

For an extra $5 you can purchase the disk otherwise it is a digital download.

Enjoy a full retail version of W7 for only 30 bucks!

Thanks

I recently purchased the retail version of Malwarebytes just to see if it's any good. It seems almost mindless how people talk about Malwarebytes but and I have yet to try it. However, the only computer I have that I am absolutely determined to keep for more than a few months already has comodo internet security installed. Now I am fully aware that having two RT scanners running simultaneously is supposedly a recipe for instant distaster, but you know what?
It's been almost a week and nothing bad has happened.

I've deliberately tried to infect my computer and nothing I've found on the internet gets past it. Sometimes Malwarebytes catches it, sometime CIS catches it. Rarely they both find something simultaneously. Who knows, maybe someone in microsoft is smart enough to have figured out by now that there is no such thing as a single application that can stop everything out there.

Answer:Full retail version of Malwarebytes & Comodo.. anyone using both?

Although the prevailing feeling is that it would not be ok. I feel that you should not have a problem.
I won the free version of Malewarebytes and it runs with my AntiVirus with no problem. That is a benefit of Malwarebytes it plays nice with most antivirus software.
I would never run two antivirus software together as that is a sure forumla for problems, BSOD etc.
Since, I have been using mine since (about January) and you have been doing the same for a week, I am sure that we are doing the right thing.

Anyone working at the big box stores such as Best Buy, Office Max, etc.? Do you know if they are going to be selling the full version? I have been checking the websites and all of the Full versions from Home Premium to Ultimate are only available by delivery.

I was just planning to walk in the store tomorrow and purchase the Full version, but if none of the big box stores are carrying it. I am going have to figure out which online store can ship it to Hawaii for the cheapest price but shortest time.

Answer:Windows 7 Full version at retail stores?

Yeah, I'm sure you'll be able to walk in and pick one up @ a retail best buy, fry's etc. Starting tomorrow, Stores already have them they just cant put it on shelves yet.

installation on my newly built computer and I don't want to do the double installation trick. I tried using these instructions http://blog.chriskankiewicz.com/post/10/windows-7-activation-hack/ . But when I went to make the registry changes I couldn't find "...Setup\OOBE" under the CurrentVersion directory. Anyone know how to fix this? I'm a novice regarding the directory so please be very explicit in your instructions. Or is there another way to do a clean install with Windows 7 upgrade? A lot of the instructions on how to do so on Google are obsolete as Microsoft has fixed some of the loopholes.

Can I buy a retail version of Windows 10 and just use that new key to re-activate my already installed OEM version and maintain its retail rating?

In which country are you located?

I am asking, because there are countries, e.g. n the European Union, in which hardware bundling is not allowed. Microsoft writes in their EULA that the software would be bundled anyway, obviously hoping that they could fool users or whatever, but this software in fact is not bundled and can be used on any other PC.

I have read that a retail version of 7 can be transferred from one computer to another given that its totally uninstalled from the first computer. My friend is going to sell me his old copy of Windows 7 Ultimate for a new build I'm doing. Its only been installed once on his computer and it has died and he bought a new laptop now with Windows 8 and no longer needs or wants his copy of 7. My question is can I use it? My concern is if it was originally registered in his name will it activate in my name. I have also read that in some cases you have to call Microsoft for help activating. Will Microsoft give me a hard time because I bought this off a friend and not a retail store?

What does it mean when the vendor selling Windows XP Pro sp2 also state "System Builder - OEM" ?

I understand the OEM, but System Builder I'm not sure about. My guess is that you can use the disk to install on your computer or reinstall it as many times as needed, but you can't use the disk on any other computer except the computer you first installed it on... is this correct.

Need a better understanding of this - would appreciate your explanation of "System Builder" version.

Reason I ask, I may want to change motherboards, to a different brand, and with an OEM I wouldn't be able to reactivate it.

I don't even think you can get a Windows 7 Retail any more.

My understanding you can up grade from Home Premium but you will have to pay for the Up grade to Pro OEM builders.

Their might be other members with a better idea.

I personally don't like upgrades and just buy OEM builders and do a clean install.

Hi, I want to 'Start Over' on my computer and wipe the whole thing clean. Problem is I have no Operating system disks, and no driver disks. Therefore, I have to purchase a new operating system. Right now I have microsoft windows XP Professional. I am going to buy XP Home edition b/c I dont want to spend that much money. Can I buy the upgrade version or do I need to buy the full version. Remember that I need to format the drive. Thanks.

Answer:Full version or Upgrade Version??

If you don't have any XP discs and you format your drive, you will need the full version. What you could do is get the upgrade and install that first, then remove your XP.

EDIT: Sorry, it's late here and I really should be in bed. For some reason I was thinking of Vista Home Basic. What I said still applies, however. If you have an earlier version of Windows, eg, '98, you can reformat your drive then install the upgrade. It will simply ask you to insert your '98 disc to check that the upgrade is valid. Hi Friends,

I am thinking of building a new PC on my own. I am a home user only. I will buy all the hardware from a local shop ie motherboard, cpu, ram, hdd etc and then I would like to install a genuine/legal version of Windows 10 Pro 64 bit on it. But should I buy OEM version or retail version? What if any hardware (motherboard, cpu, ram, hdd etc.) stops functioning after I install, activate/register and update Windows? Thanks.

Answer:Retail version or OEM version

It's better to buy Retail version for you are sure that it could be reinstalled on any MB in the future and MS is not going to change to any new windows for many years. Deals on OEM are known to be shady at best.
If you currently have a retail version of W7 or 8/8.1 you can still use it's activation code to upgrade to W10 on new machine. Not that only motherboard is important, no other makes any difference as far as activation is concerned.

I purchased a full retail version of Windows 8.1 that comes on 32-bit and 64-bit DVD's. Will the retail version still ask for the Windows 8.1 product key when installing from the Windows 8 desktop? Does the retail version check for the BIOS embedded product key before asking for the product key?

Answer:Windows 8.1 Full Retail version over Windows 8

Hello Keith,

The Windows 8.1 installation will detect the Windows 8 product key embedded in your UEFI/BIOS firmware, but it will be determined as invalid since it's a Windows 8 product key and not a retail Windows 8.1 product key.

You will then be prompted as usual to enter your Windows 8.1 product key like in step 4 below.

Clean Install - Windows 8

Hope this helps,

I have already desided to but Windows 7 Home premium but I'm concerned with whether to buy an OEM version or a retail version. I want even bother to muddy the water with the volume license version. I want a version that if my computer dies, or need a major upgrade like a new hard drive, I can reinstall it. I thought that was an OEM version but after reading some posts this weekend I'm not sure I'm accurate. Which one allows me to reinstall after a major hardware upgrade or after the purchase of a replacement computer. I understand the license agreements only allows an OS to be on one machine at a time. But if the computer dies or needs a upgrade like a new hard drive the old OS should be able to be reinstalled. Can anyone help me to understand this delima.

Answer:OEM or Retail Version?

An OEM version of Windows is licensed by Microsoft to be sold
with any "non-peripheral hardware component." Tiger Direct, for example, adheres to that by shipping it with a "CD-ROM audio cable" which is aguably the cheapest "non-perpheral hardware component" in existence.

With OEM versions you receive a Certificate of Authenticity and a CD containing the program on it. That's it. No pretty packaging, no printed promo material and no "free technical support from Microsoft."

The retail version comes in the fancy wrapper and has all the printed material included...most of which you probably don't need or want anyway...along with whatever "free" tech support Microsoft offers. I don't have a clue what that tech support may or may not be since I've never called MS.

Hi there,

Does anyone know how many times a user can activate a retail copy of xp pro after clean formatting or is there no limitation on condition that it is installed on the same computer?

Thanks
Darren

Answer:Xp Pro Retail Version

I haven't ran into any limitations with a retail version, yet. The most that can happen is you will have to call in to reactivate. I've changed motherboards with a OEM version and called. They just gave me a new activation code with no hassle. Of course I didn't offer that information. I just told them there was a software issue and I had to do a fresh install.

Hello,Few days ago I run Lenovo software update utility. There was an update available for the dolby audio driver and I applied it. Since then every time I reboot the computer the dolby audio application fails to start (it is in the start up). The message displayed is "The current Dolby audio driver version is 7.2.8000.14 and the software application expects driver version 7.2.7000.7. Please install a valid driver and software application combination." There is no available download for the application in the support section of Lenovo's website. I want to reinstall XP.

I set the computer to boot to the CD drive.

Then I got an error message saying "No boot record found" (referring to the XP Home CD) in the CD drive, so the XP CD will not boot (I guess).

Then I rebooted by turning off the computer and turning the computer on via the switch taking me to the desktop.

I clicked on the CD drive icon so I could get access to the XP CD.

I clicked on the "reinstall XP" option but then I got the message saying I could not reinstall XP because the version on my hard drive is newer than the XP version on my XP-Home CD.

I have Acronis so I can wipe the disc clean.

However, if I wipe disc clean and reboot with an Acronis emergency CD, what do I do after I reboot using the emergency CD?

Hi

I know that the last build is 10532 but I do not receive those updates. I contacted Microsoft this morning and they tell me that th1 10240 is a version for developers and that I am not supposed to have this version.

Also in the end I returned the English version cause I found you can add a language pack to the JP version. The problem with this is that if you get a blue screen the Windows messages are in Japanese. So now unless I can change this I'm going to go back to an English version of Windows 10.

When you install a trial version of an AVG security product on your Windows PC you may not feel convinced to buy premium model. However, you may like to continue the use of free version. This is only possible when you uninstall the trial version and download the copy of the free antivirus program thereafter. The AVG Downgrader application helps you complete this process with ease. The program converts trial versions of AVG products into AVG Free. You can download the application from AVG's website under tools and diagnostic utilities section. You will need to restart the system to finalize the downgrade to AVG Free Antivirus.

How to remove Danish version WinOS7 and replace with Uk version WinOS7.
Or Duel boot UK OSWin7 leaving the Danish version OS Win7 on the system.
What is the easy way round.

Answer:Remove Dainish Win7 for UK version or Duel boot the UK version.

Firstly - Do you need to retain the Danish version? If not and you have the Win 7 install disk (UK version) Boot from that, format and do a FULL install. Then download and install the Service Packs bearing in mind that all software will have to be reinstalled.
If you want to Dual Boot then here are the instructions for doing so (then remove the Danish version at a later from the boot menu) enter link description here

Can i use my oem key with retail version disk, to perform a clean install of Windows.
Thank You.

Answer:oem key with retail version disk

The OEM key is tied into the manufactuers DVD. Many have commented in the Seven Forum that it does work with Seven, however. If it does not.
I would contact the computer manufacturer and get a OEM copy DVD for cost; about $25.00
I would check first to see if you can get the DVD from the manufacturer, just in case.

Hi all,
I have win 7 RC and I know i have to do a clean install of the retail version.
Do i just install the retail disk and it will format my drive or do I have to do something else.

Claude

Answer:installation of retail version

Hi Claude, welcome to the forums.

The installation of the RTM (Retail) version is no different to that of the RC, except the install wallpaper

You just put the DVD into the drive and away you go, just like you did with the RC

   Tip
The custom option will allow for formatting of your drive

hi, please can some one help me i have a retail copy of windows 10 that i purchased at a pc store its still unopened . the question i have is its been on my shelf about a year, will i still be able to use it at some point? thank you,

Answer:windows 10 retail version

Welcome to TenForums @kev777

Yes, but it will be for an earlier build, probably Anniversary update (1607), maybe even the one before that (1511). The retail key is valid for any version, so you could download new install media from Microsoft using their Media Creation Tool. You must install the edition your key is for (Home or Pro).
Download Windows 10 ISO File

Or you could just install the one you have got, windows update would then update you to the latest version.

Hi there
Any views on this -- I want to convert some DVD movies to play on the SAMSUNG S4 Phone (and then play back via a USB-> HDMI output on a Hotel TV).

The DVD is already ripped to an ISO - decrypted and de-regionalized so the output should be "rippable" in decent MP4 format which the phone can output at full HD (1080p) --used AnyDVD to decrypt and de-regionalize the DVD - that works fine. S4 phone likes MP4 format better than a lot of other codecs and VLC for android plays OK.

This program seems to do the trick without zillions of add / crapware a lot of the other "Free" video converters have.

Sample files play OK - got a micro 64GB card for the phone so can get a few movies on it. It's just a bit slow though even on a decent computer - any other recommendations -- I want QUALITY though so that's more important than pure speed - but if I can have BOTH. !!

Cheers
jimbo

I presently have Win98SE and want to change to WinXP Professional. I have been looking on Ebay, and have found three versions (all with the SP2) and can't figure out which one i should get. Which would be best the OHM, the Upgrade or the Retail version. All come with the COA and registration key and are new and never opened systems. Please help me as i have no clue.

Answer:OEM, Upgrade or Retail version

OEM is actually for new builds, typically you have to purchase new hardware to qualify for this version. Upgrade only works if you own a prior version, and it has to be a full retail version, or an OEM version to qualify for the "upgrade" version. Full retail is the best choice, but it's a bit more costly.

Hi ... Today I went and bought a new hard to install xp clean but only to find out Microsoft wouldn't accept my product keys which for some reason they have blocked . I never thought a retail version could be block . I call Microsoft to find out why my keys are being blocked . I was told that I was trying to activated it to many times in one day , or something like that , which really wasn't the case . I really never got a straight answer as to why . So now my retail version is no good to use . So why should I have faith in MS if they can do this to paying customers ? I still have the bill of sale and the box where I purchase it from " Future Shop " an legit outlet . Its a retail version not an OEM and this copy is only install on this one computer , one license per computer . I paid back in 2002 $574.00 canadian for it . I never once had any issues before with reactivating it until today . What would you do in my shoes , go to the press ? THIS IS TOTALLY LEGIT .

I have Windows XP on my machine currently. If I bought a new HDD and installed the Win 7 upgrade onto the new drive, would this work?

If it did work, would I then lose my product key for the Windows XP copy I currently have thus making my old HDD "dead" if I ever needed to put it back into use?

Thanks

Upgraded from win7 to win 8 and then to win 8.1. After upgrading to Win 8, I have upgraded my PC ( new motherboard , CPU Video card etc. ) and had lots of problem during activation of Windows in my new PC. I had to call customer care service and after a very lengthy procedure windows could be activated. The service personal also told me that if I change my motherboard/cpu in future then the same procedure will follow again. As far as my understanding only OEM versions of windows are tied to the motherboard , so is my win 8 which I upgraded from win 7 is an OEM version ? How do I know that.

Answer:Windows 8 , is it a retail or OEM version ?

Big hardware changes like a motherboard swap (new chip-set) will trigger activation, even on Retail versions. The intent is to prevent you from using your product code on more than one PC at a time. OEM versions cannot be transferred to another PC but Retail versions can. If you had an OEM version Microsoft would have been within their rights to refuse to allow you to activate it again on the new hardware. Since its Retail they gave you a code to plug in and activate with.

Hi. First off, I emailed McAfee Customer Support but got nowhere. All they told me to do was uninstall the Trial version and then install using the CD. I'm interested in replies from people that own McAfee VirusScan. I know how to remove and install software. This is not typical. Here's what I've done so far. I downloaded McAfee's VirusScan Trial. I liked it and bought 3 CDs from buycheapsoftware dot com. I removed the Trial version via the Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs. I rebooted and then I installed from the CD. I told Customer Support that I could not find and menu/window in the McAfee product that indicates whether I'm running the CD version or the Trial version. Customer Service sent me an email giving me detailed instructions on how to remove and clean up McAfee. I did that and installed from the CD as they said but there is no difference in the info on the "About" window from when the Trial version was installed.

Note: During the installation from the CD there was no prompt for a serial number or CD key.

Answer:McAfee: How Do I Know I Have Retail Version?

Are you sure this buycheapsoftware is legitimate? You should be prompted for a product key. I think you were scammed.

If I buy a retail version of Home Premium, will I be able to install it on more than one computer at a time? Because I know for XP I could install it for a certain amount of times until I needed a new key.

I kinda need to know by tonight, thanks.

Answer:Vista Retail Version

You can but it is harder to call M$ about Activating Vista than it is for XP. So if you use up all your activations by installing it on multiple PC's, chances are you might not be able to activate it again on your PC.

Plus if i am not mistaken M$ has actually limited Retail versions. You can only actiavte them twice before they ask for calling confirmation.

I am going to be upgrading my computer in the near future, and going to go from XP to Vista X64.

Is the standard version of Vista to get Home Premium? Any reason I would want to go for Ultimate or Business?

And do I need to get the retail version or do I get full functionality if I get the OEM Version? Any positives to getting the retail over the OEM?

Answer:Which version of Vista? and OEM or Retail?

The version you choose is up to you and your needs... Ultimate is a waste in my opinion, but that is just my opinion...

OEM is less expensive, but you get "full functionality"....the EULA is a bit different though. OEM versions are meant to be installed one time on one computer only. Technically, it's "tied" to the hardware, meaning that if any of your hardware dies, your supposed to purchase another license.

I'm on my fourth install of HP OEM and I have yet to even need to call to get it to re-activate..... just my experience.

Yesterday I upgraded one computer from windows 10 version 1607 to version 1703 (OS Build 15063.13) using the Microsoft Update Assistant.

This is disk management on the computer that was upgraded using the Microsoft Update Assistant:

This computer was used to reproduce a Windows defender offline blue screen boot loop.  The troubleshooting menu on a windows 10 1607 iso did not have startup options with safe mode and command prompt to turn off windows driver verifier.  The partitions
on the SSD drive were deleted making the drive unallocated.  Then the windows 10 version 1607 was installed.  And as above it was upgraded to version 1703 yesterday without any problems.  The Windows defender offline incompatibility problem
with Windows driver verifier was tested with windows 10 version 1703 and the blue screen boot loop was fixed by Microsoft so that it is no longer occurs.
A second computer had the option via windows updates to get an early edition of 1703.
This update method was selected and this morning it displayed:
Something went wrong.
Error code 0xc1900200
This computer had Windows 10 version 1607 and also had a Windows defender offline blue screen boot loop.  It was fixed in a store.  There the... Read more

hello,

Bitdefender Free has the same protection technologies that its paid version? The efficiency of the free version is same as the paid version?

Answer:The efficiency of the free version of Bitdefender is the same as the paid version?

I don't see why it wouldn't be, yes it has less features and is less configurable,
But you get the same award winning engine that powers the paid version.

I downloaded win10 preview and installed on a virtualbox VM running on a Win7 system.
And when i check the Registry entry of Win10 , i see 6.3 as version, but in the screen shot that you provided here it shows 6.4. Which one is correct?
and what would be the Major version, Minor version, Architecture values for the final version of Windows 10 ? Please let us know.

I also wrote a piece of C# code in .NET 4.5 just to display the OS versions.
private
voidbutton1_Click(objectsender,EventArgse)
{
label1.Text =
Environment.OSVersion.Version.Major.ToString();
label2.Text =
Environment.OSVersion.Version.Minor.ToString();
label3.Text =
Environment.OSVersion.Version.MajorRevision.ToString();
label4.Text =
Environment.OSVersion.Version.MinorRevision.ToString();
}
And here is the result that I get on the win10 preview and installed on a virtualbox VM running on a Win7 system

So it looks like there is no consistency. Please let us know Major version, Minor version, Architecture values for the final version of Windows 10

after installing an application, a windows pop up appeared, saying "The program cant start because d3dx9_36.dll is missing from your computer. So, i looked at my DxDiag version, its DirectX11...So what do you think is the problem? i went to this site How to download and install DirectX, but i found a lot version of DirectX, that i don't know which one is compatible with mine so that i can be able to run the program. I've done reinstalling, and still it happens..

Additional info:
win7 64bit OS, sp1
currently running DirectX11

Please tell me which version should i download and how to install it, if it is hard, if it is as simple as this "download and install then run the app" then just tell me please if that's the case. This forum nver lets me down so im counting on you guys...

Answer:DxDiag Version Compatibility Issue, Which version should i download?

Welcome to Seven Forums mclarren. That dll is from DirectX 9 that dll should reside in both System32 and SysWOW64. The correct download if needed would be

Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center

I can zip up both dll's, but if the download corrects the issue, no need. Let us know. A Guy
