Windows XP Pro Tablet Edition or Windows XP Pro for IBM ThinkPad X41 Tablet PC?

Question: Windows XP Pro Tablet Edition or Windows XP Pro for IBM ThinkPad X41 Tablet PC?

I have an IBM ThinkPad X41 that was issued to me from work. I would like to reinstall the operating system to get rid of all the garbage that's on it. But, they don't have the CD's that came with the laptop. The COA on the bottom of the X41 is for WinXP Pro Tablet Edition. But, I don't have a copy in the office and they can't find it anywhere. Should I install Windows XP Professional on it or should I somehow contact IBM for the CD's to be reissued?

Any ideas???

Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Windows XP Pro Tablet Edition or Windows XP Pro for IBM ThinkPad X41 Tablet PC?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. We've got an unusual problem when applying driverpackage for lenovo x201.OSD with SCCM 2007.. The Audio driver installs successfully during OSD (with silent install switch) and in devicemanager we can see that the conexant 20585 Smart Audio HD driver has been installed. Same with "Intel screen audio". But in the Audio options in controlpanel all the fields is grayed out. There is with other words no associated soundcard / standard device. If we install the driver again, logged in as an user the recently grayed out fields in Audio options automagically now shows the correct input / output devices (Conexant audio) and the sound starts working. Is there some issue when installing drivers in SYSTEM context?Notice: There is no "?" in device manager. BR!

Has anyone run into the problem where there is no audio on an X61 tablet even though SoundMax drivers are shown to be installed properly? Any help would be appreciated. Thx

Answer:No audio on X61 tablet running Window XP Tablet Edition

I have the same issue right now on an X60 tablet that I just upgraded to Vista Ultimate. All of my drivers are up to date, except it shows on windows update that I have an audio driver still to update. I go through the process, and then it will not install the update. I wish I could help with this more, but wanted to let you know that others have similar problems. I hope someone can help us.B

I've been very needy these past weeks and I'm so grateful for this forum, thanks! >.<
Hopefully this will be my last issue with a computer, I've had 3 different computers with different issues!

I've got a Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, which somehow got corrupted and was given a format. The format was pretty successful, but the problem is that the PC is now empty, really empty. I cannot connect to the internet, I cannot use the touch screen, I cannot use my Fn keys and it's driving me crazy.

In Add or Remove Programs, there are no programs, in Windows Tast Manager nothing is running.

Normally the netbook has wifi, its stickers say ''Blutooth'' and ''intel inside, centrino, mobile technology''. I tried connecting through ethernet but it tells me I got a limited connection. I tried downloading drivers but to be completely honest, I don't know what the heck I was doing. Is it even possible to find drivers for the tablet pc these days, like to use the touch screen and all that?

What can I do about this?

hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

Hey guys,

I have been using my laptop for over a year and last night I decided to setup an ftp connection to my old xbox - which I use to dump media onto.
I installed core ftp and after some playing around got it to connect to my xbox. However in the process I played around with some network stuff - I'm not certain what.. and this morning rather than just have my laptop start up and go into windows as per usual I am faced with a Log on to windows popup.. and its asking me for a user name and a password.. which I havent a clue about - since I have NEVER used them before.

So does anyone have any ideas?

I have tried to type in Administrator and leave the password blank.. but it doesnt work.

I havent a clue what to do

Hi there, I seem to have run into some bad luck with my computer.

I use this computer for school as I'm a year 8 student.

I was given a TOSHIBA Portege M700 Tablet computer. It has a sticker on it saying windows vista basic but my school puts xp on all the computers.
My laptop is running Windows XP pro tablet pc edition 2005 SP2.

Only recently has my computer been irresponsive and crashed.

My computer has a Intel centrino vPro proccessor, I'm pretty sure it's 1.94 Ghz. My laptop also has 1GB of ram.
These problems started about 2 days ago, these included:

The explorer.exe process stopping responding.
The system freezing.
The system failing to complete a task
The system not responding after only 6 minutes of inactivity
Internet explorer not working ( i will elaborate on this)
and general instability
The Finger swipe would not log me in
Logon screen would freeze
Internet programs would not work. (age of mythology online, windows live messenger, mail,

Answer:Windows XP pro Tablet edition problems

I highly suggest just reinstalling it. It's important that your pen components, etc. are working and if you fiddle too much, you might mess those up.

They probably installed XP Tablet because there are a significant number of programs for XP Tablet that are not yet vista ready.

My system was shipped with XP Tablet Edition already installed. How can I access Windows XP data to repair a Windows problem? Because I did a system update recommended by Lenovo, everything started going downhill fast; i.e., no wired or wireless networking. It just disappeared! I am using Lenovo Rescue and Recovery to copy files off to a stick. But out of curiousity, where the heck is Windows XP on my computer? I think it would have been much easier to do a Windows "repair" than going this route. Thanks, y'all!

I'm working with a computer that has Windows XP Tablet Edition on it. It has a really bad virus on it that makes the computer basically unusable. The program System Tool continuously pops up unprompted asking for a renewed subscription and listing viruses, worms and trojans that the computer probably has. The wallpaper has changed to a background that says the computer is infected. Popups also appear saying that the file wisptis.exe is infected. I've downloaded HijackThis and AVG but can't get either to run. Help would be much appreciated.

About a week ago my windows would no longer load... I called tech support and gave them all the details about what I had tried and what it was doing. It was suggested that my hard drive needed to be replaced -bye bye 100+gb of stuff- . I'm under warenty still so another hardrive was shipped and the recovery cd's arrived about two days later. For the past two days I've tried figuring this out, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong? I put the hard drive that was sent into my laptop and tried to run the cds so I could use my laptop again! I changed the boot order, placed the first cd in , it acts like it is copying files. Then I take it out and restart like it says to do. It then asks me for the supplemental cd , I put that one in and click yes and withing 10 or 15 seconds it asks for the first product recovery cd, I place that cd in - and heres where the problem begins- this freezes when I put it in, I let it set for up to three hours trying to let it run but it will not go, I have attempted multiple times. I have to restart and then start over with the first cd. Am I doing something out of order or wrong? please help! also , as my laptop (thinkpad tablet pc x61) does not have a cd drive I am using an external (usb) cd drive. EDIT: I tried clicking no to the supplement cd and now the first product recovery cd starts up after about 45 min ....but I get an error that says" error copying file D:\RECOVERY\CT22CUS.001.Error:There is not enogh space on the disk.; " ... Good day and thank you for reviewing this post.

I have a tablet PC using Win XP TE 2005, SP3.

I cannot get it to install updates from MS.

I have followed the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104/ and at the MS page describing how to get updates to work when they do not work. I have also tried the Windows Update Agent, also from MS.

None of these altered the symptoms AT ALL.

For the most part, this machine is running perfectly ... it is quick, responds well, and does everything else properly, but it WILL NOT install updates. It DOWNLOADS them ... but will not install. (Express Updates from MS site)

I do not have an OS CD for this .... I have all 3 versions of XP (H, PRO, MC), and have tried a chkdsk /r with the XP home SP3 disk ... did not find or fix any errors.

Please -- if you have anything to offer, offer it.

--Oh .... I have scanned with MWB, Vipre, and also run an Iobit ACS scan. No spyware/viruses found in either Vipre or MWB. Norton 360 is installed, but firewall and Virus Protection turned off. Vipre has been removed so there is only 1 virus proggy. Internet works wonderfully.

Thank you very much and have a nice day.

I really do not know where else to ask this question so I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place. I have a customer who has a Fujitsu Lifebook which originally had Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 on it. I was looking for the OEM version of Tablet PC Edition 2005, but could not find it. So I downloaded the 2 iso's titled Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 that I saw , ran install, and then get stuck at the part where it asks me put in the product key. The product key on the bottom does not work so I found this article and followed the directions under manual install, but that product key does not work either. The customer does not have the original cd's that came with the laptop so that is not an option. Please help me understand why my technet subscription does not allow me to access oem version of the os or tell me how to get this working.
Thanks in advance.

How about the Lenovo driver updates? You should probably at least install the power manager driver and the intel management. Run system update and see what comes up for updates.

I have been able to log in to my tablet pc running XP pro SP2 both at work (where I am on a domain) and at home. I wanted to print from the tablet via my desktop at home, so in order to access the local resources I thought I had to tell my tablet to connect to the local windows workgroup rather than through a domain, so I switched this setting - but now at the log on screen it will not accept my username and password, and I always get the message: "The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again."

I cannot access my computer at all - hitting F5 and trying safe mode or any of the other options don't work - I always end up at the log on screen with the same results.

Any ideas?? I have to find a way to log on! Secondarily, is there a way to access my printer on the local workgroup without encountering this problem again?

Thanks!

Answer:After changing from domain to workgroup, can't log on to windows xp (tablet edition)

Your domain login credentials are on the domain server, not on the local machine. You need to use a local machine logon for what you're trying to do.

I don't see how Safe Mode can do that - it should let you in , if only as the Administrator. It's the Function 8 key - not 5 - was that a typo or will Safe Mode simply not come up?

I see a subject line which already asks this question in the knowledgebase, however I can't open the link so I'm asking this question as a duplicate, my apologies in advance..So, basically, is this possible? I don't see any Win-7 drivers available for the TP Tablet 2. I'm assuming that Windows 7 isn't supported then, unless I attempt to load the Win-8 drivers on a Win-7 install.I'm quite disappointed with the TP Tablet 2 running Windows 8. The response times on anything from opening a webpage, changing to another webpage, opening apps, etc is very slow. I was hoping that if Windows 7 was supported, then I might just get better performance with this tablet however it could just end up with the same performance for all I know. I won't know until I try but I don't want to go through the install process just to find out that I don't have any driver support for Win-7. I'm thinking that I should have purchased a Helix... TBD... Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you!!!

I have a Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph that works without problems aside from the fact that, when I undock it from the keyboard, it doesn't detect that it should now be in Tablet Mode. I have to manually go to the Action Center and toggle it there. Same with docking it back. I have already checked my settings and I didn't disable Tablet Mode either.

Anyone have an idea how I can resolve this? I just want to seamlessly dock and undock the tablet and it should switch to tablet or desktop mode respectively.

Only USD 77$
But i have some questions before i proceed to buy it for my child
1. As it is 16gb tablet but in actual we get only 4gb free space & i have read in reviews that once we update windows & other apps we are left with only 400mb space & we cant install other apps. So is it possible to install software's (.exe) on 64GB memory card which this tablet support ?
I am not talking about APPS, I am talking about .exe files like photoshop, ERP, educational softwares etc.
2. As it is having only 1 USB port so it is possible to attach a USB hub so that we can attach pen drives, KB, Mouse, HDD, 3g Dongel & power adapter at once ?
If anyone of you have used any windows 8/8.1 tablet then please reply.

Hello,I have a 2nd tablet I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10, it was a really cheap one for 70Euros it is a Odys Wintab 8 with Windows 8.1 Bind Edition and it just has a 16gb flash storage. The problem is, that I just have about 2GB of free storage on c: and even after resetting Windows 8.1 to default there is just about 3gb of storage left. Mostly because of the 16gb-4gb recovery-Windows-(rest) results in a 4gb storage after a clean Windows 8.1 installation.I read somewhere, that Windows 10 recognizes those tablets and installs itself as a compressed install, but I guess you need to do this under specific circumstances. How do I get a Windows 10 now on this device? Normal upgrade wouldnt work because of the space issue, I wouldnt even be able to download it.

Dear Lenovo support staff / community, I just purchased a brand-new X200 and the pen / touch / tablet feature works out-of-the-box with its pre-installed Windows Vista 64-bit OS. Because the applications I intend to use the Tablet with do not support Vista 64-bit (namely, Dragon Systems), I used the Windows XP Tablet Edition SP-2 Product Recovery Disc kit that came with the Lenovo tablet, and followed the conversion instructions included in the booklet down to the letter. However, when it converted the OS to Windows XP, the pen / touch functionality is completely gone, and I am unable to find any help online, or in Lenovo product support when called in. Installing the Multitouch drivers on the Lenovo support site for X200 drivers does not work, and installing the WACOM drivers does nothing either. I can confirm this is most likely a 100% repro case, as I have two brand new X200 Tablets and the same behavior is exhibited on both. Please advise.

He asked me to reformat it so his companys information and other data would be fully erased. Some specs on the X41:Does not have CD/DVD Drive so I can't install windows that way.Does have USB slots, so I think that will be the only way to install (correct me if I am wrong). Me being a complete newbie, I full erased the hard drive (so there is no OS). The laptop still turns on but when i let it run it says: Media Test Failure, Check CableExiting Broadcom PXE ROMOperating System Not Found Luckily the Bios still works and I can access it but there is nothing I can do to restore it back to factory state or recover. The Bios does detect my usb drive and I have placed that in the number one spot for boot order. If there is anyway I can get an OS installed onto my pc I would be grateful. Note I don't need to install XP on the first install, If installing windows 98 or 95 will be faster and easier we can do that. I can take it from there as all I will need is the xp install files which i have copied from my cd to my computers share folders. Thanks again hopefully there is a solution to my problem, I'd really like to have this laptop for school as im going into grade 12.

Answer:Installing Windows XP to Thinkpad X41 (Not Tablet)

Welcome to the forum! Fastest and probably least painful way around this is to buy or borrow a USB CD-ROM and take it from there... Good luck.

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen. Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work. This is the download link:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027627 The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC. I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

I have upgraded to Windows 8 64 bit on my X61 Tablet, however I cannot get the tablet buttons, hotkeys, or auto-rotation to work. My understanding is that Lenovo has stopped supporting these products. I think it is a shame to stop using a perfectly working tablet PC with a superior LCD. I don't want to go back to Win 7 leaving all kinds of nice features on Windows 8. Any suggestions? Is there a hope? Koray

Answer:X61 Tablet Windows 8 - Tablet Button and Features Request

Hi koray,

I've been playing around with Windows 8 since the developers preview. I've ran it on a lot of older systems. Getting things to work will require some experimentation on your part.

You can start with your Driver Matrix. There you can find the Hotkeys Utility for Windows 8. You will also need the Power Manager Driver for Windows 8. Not Power Manager, just the Power Manager Driver.

Run Windows Update, it will probably find some stuff. Some Windows 7 drivers will work, others won't.

I'm running Windows 8 Pro on an x60 tablet and everything works fine. I also have it on an x61 non-tablet and it runs fine. I had to do a lot of messing around with stuff to get them to work right though.

Just make sure that you set system restore points before changing anything so you can get back what you had before, just in case something doesn't work right. And, only install one thing at a time and reboot and test it out thoroughly before you install something else.

Good luck with this,

Dave

Hi,
I'm going to be doing some presentations and teaching online. I'm using Team Viewer 9 running on Windows 7 as my software. I would like to be able to have the equivalent to a whiteboard visible to the participants.
For a demonstration of the sort of thing I want to do see
where the presenter draws circles etc. He doesn't do any handwriting in the YouTube video (but he does in the actual presentation at CBT nuggets)
I'm total newbie when it comes to tablets, but a tablet that allows drawing direct on the tablet and simultaneous display on a Windows monitor. I know that the presentation on You Tube was done with various Wacom devices. Intuos4, Cintiq monitor, or more recently, Cintiq Companion tablet. (I tweeted the presenter Shawn Powers). These devices are a bit beyond my budget. Is there a cheaper alternative? Sadly the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is not yest available in Australia (where I am) - I'm not sure if it's a possible answer, but I'm assuming it would be. Is there anything else that's not going to mean I have to take out a mortgage on my house?
Thanks in advance for your help.
cheers,
Bernard

Hi all, I can see the drivers and some of the software support for Win7 64bit but after looking through some of the FAQ and online manuals I can not find a guide that details out in what order the drivers and other support software are to be reinstalled. Does one just install ThinkVantage and let it take over? Background: This is a ThinkPad that was upgraded from 2 GB and maxed out to 8 GB and the user already tried to reinstall Windows and removed the diagnostic partition. They managed to get everything working except that the touch screen would only work with the stylus and not finger touch. So the assumption at this point is that a driver was installed in the wrong order or the wrong driver was installed. Best,A

Answer:Install 64 bit Windows 7 on ThinkPad x201 tablet

Hi all, Wow, for a premium brand Lenovo's forums are next to useless.Does no one form Lenovo actually look around in here? I have been doing more research and it seems Lenovo has no procedure for replacing the OS except to make the us pay $50 USD more for a recovery disc. If this is not the case please enlighten me as to where I can get this or provide a recipe for installing drivers without using the recovery disc. If that is reallythe case then eMachines seems to provide better support than Lenovo. As it stands right now tomorrow I am going to contact my rep. at CDW-G to exchange this Lenovo x201 tablet for credit.Nowhere does it say that I have to buy additional software to use a system RAM upgrade. This is really a shame but I promise that if I have to do this I will never buy or recommend a Lenovo product to my customers again.

It has 4GB ram and has been upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. I intend to clone the HDD to SSD.

Can anyone here advise on any issues and recommended drivers?

Hi all.
I am running into some trouble and would like to know if anyone here is having the same issue. Hopefully, I'm not the only one with a Thinkpad Tablet 2 here.
I went to update my tablet to Windows 10 yesterday and ran into a few problems. Windows 10 was not downloading correctly and I would get a Windows Update error. Finally, when I got up this morning the update was ready. However, I have now hit a new snag. Hence why I come to you good sirs.
When I click on the update icon on the system tray, it gives me an error. The screen states:
"Unfortunately, this PC is unable to run Windows 10."
"We're sorry to let you know that this PC can't upgrade to Windows 10 because one or more things are incompatible."
Then on the right, it states:
"Compatibility issue:
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator
The display manufacturer hasn't made your display compatible with Windows 10. Check with the manufacturer for support."
Here's a screenshot:
Can anyone tell me what I can do about this? I've already gone to Intel and Lenovo and updated everything they have and still nothing. Would mounting and running the ISO work? Would anyone even recommend that considering the warning about incompatibility?
Thanks in advance and I hope to hear from you all soon.

any ideas?

Answer:How can I get the driver on my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2 working on Windows 10?

i've heard that thinkpad t2 doesn't handly w10 because of issue with the intel video driver, most drivers should work, go to lenovo page and install w8.1 drivers that maybe resolv the error, if not, go to windows update and see if there's any driver update, download and restart the lenovo.
if not, you should go back to 8.1 maybe it's for the best, also do you have the latest bios firmware? look for me in fb if you have any questions, i'm seba rodriguez.

Dear community, I found my screen starts flickering not long after I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my thinkpad x200 tablet. It happens especially when I have an external monitor connected to the laptop and when I maximize a Microsoft Edge brower on screen. Scrolling the mouse will trigger the lines on a page flickering back and forth or partially disappeared. This is really annoying when I want to scroll down a little bit to find some useful information. I have tried to use the "sfc /scannow" command to identify potential problems and to reinstall compatible Thinkpad graphics and video drivers, but no luck. I have also tried other solutions that I can find online (like disabling the issue reporting service), yet still this problem persists. I contacted Microsoft for their assistance, and they suggest me to ask the manufacture to solve this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks,Qi

I wanted to give my impressions of the Lenovo TPT2. First off, the model I have is the 3679-27U, this means that it has the digitizer pen, windows 8 pro, no NFC, no 3G/4G antenna (though there is a slot for a SIM card). Let me also be frank about my biases concerning tablets. I am not a voracious media consumer. If Im going to watch a movie or TV program I prefer to do so with a large screen TV in the comfort of my living room. As far as checking email, messaging, twitter, and facebook that is why I have a smartphone. Why do I need another piece of electronic equipment that does the exact same thing as my smartphone? In my opinion iPADs and Android tablets are really only good for media consumption, they give you a slightly larger screen to run the same apps that your phone runs. If Im going to buy a tablet it has to provide some functionality that my phone or laptop cannot, otherwise it is a waste of money. Therefore, a tablet had to be able to run productivity programs: MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, GB-Stats, etc That meant a tablet using either the Atom processor or a Core processor (i3, i5). This left out not only Apple and Android but also any tablets running Windows 8 RT. Obviously one the major advantages of a tablet is its size and portability. My laptop is a comfortable size and fairly easy to carry around, so what advantage would a tablet give me. The answer is battery life. In order to be practical I would need a laptop with a significantly longer run time tha... Read more

Answer:The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2: Everything a tablet should be

Nice review. I have had my TPT2 for a little over a month now. I have used it extensively as my only device away from the office and have been able to do so without adjusting my computing needs too much. The only drawback that I have had is an under-powered USB port where i am unable to attach my external hard drive. Anything that I knew I was going to need for the day or trip I load onto a USB stick and problem averted.
Edit: I suppose I should mention that my usage is not too intense in terms of productivity. My programs of choice are typically the Microsoft Office package. I do a lot with excel, word, and power point and so far, I haven't run into any issues. I'm in the process of getting a new monitor for home and i'll have a better idea what it's like running a multiple monitor setup from the TPT2 and mini HDMI to HDMI connection. At this point I have a BT keyboard and Mouse which I have been using for the past few days with no issues (except when the battery is close to dying in the keyboard and it behaves as if it is possessed).
I might be one of the lucky ones but haven't had any issues with the wifi signal, sleep issues others have experienced, etc. Outside of the USB and mini HDMI to VGA issues, I'm still completely satisfied. If Wacom could update the drivers to enhance the accuracy of pen input, then I'd be completely satisfied given my particular usage patterns.

Hi there! By some reason I ordered my Lenovo Yoga Thinkpad with Windows 7 pre-installed on it. I thought all portable devices was delivered with Windows 8. However, since I experience that scrolling using fingers in tablet mode is quite laggy I wonder if it's performance could be speeded up running the Yoga Thinkpad with Windows 8 instead? It runs quite smooth using the mousepad so I had an idea of the antiglare filter that's applied to the sceen that might cause this laggy experience? Or maybe there's a driver that speeds things up?

I have been waiting for one year for the x230 tablet with the win8 installed, but unfortunately, Lenovo did nothing's, why it have to wait, rather than upgrade my self, I believe the current x230t ,s some function will not work , as Lenovo also remove win8 from their websiteX230 tablet as a top level business laptop without windows8 is unreasonable, as win8 already available for so long timeI also believe Lenovo will have to do something to produce x230t with windows8, or new x240t with win8, because too many thinkpad fans waiting for that

Answer:Why thinkpad x230 tablet without windows 8 installed from the factory? What is the real reason?

To be a windows 8 certified device with touch screen feature, it has to have at least 5 points touch. The X220t and X230t uses a 2 point touch screen, so they do not meet the minimum requirement for Windows 8.

So I upgraded to Windows 10, everything works out, but I noticed from Matlab that the OpenGL support is only on the version of 1.1. I further pocked around , and found the graphics accelerator driver is from Microsoft and has some known issues (from Matlab). Then I downloaded the Intel Driver Update Utility to update the graphics driver, but nothing can be found there. Back to Windows 7, the Intel Driver works fine for me and gave OpenGL ~2.2 support. Does anyone knows better drivers in Windows 10 than the default Microsoft one? Thanks in advance.

Answer:How to replace hard drive in ThinkPad X201 Tablet running Windows 7 64-bit

Hi, btownsend

I found the Personal Systems Reference for your machine, which you can also see here (X201T section begins on page CML3-7). According to this, the standard SATA port for disk drives in the X201T takes a 2.5 inch drive, so any drive compatible with SATA 3.0 that is 2.5 inches x 9 mm should work fine.

As for moving things to the new drive, I would either use backup discs or a backup USB drive to save everything and then use that media to refresh everything once the new drive is installed.

Hope it helps,Adam

I was browsing Tablet PCs recently (looking to buy one now that the hype is over and they're more affordable) and I noticed some that came with XP Tablet edition (home/pro) and some that just came with XP home/pro.

Is it really worth the extra $$$ to get the "tablet edition" on a tablet PC or are you just as well off to go with regular XP and the normal touch-screen-input driver?

Tablet PC is xp pro with the tablet pc fuctions added. If you are getting a tablet then get the os that works best with it.

Your best bet is going to be to contact the manufacturer and see if they will send you one. It will most likely cost you a nominal fee.

Question: XP Tablet Edition

I have a friend with a Gateway laptop that has XP Tablet Edition on it where you can write on the screen with the stylus. The HD is dying, it only will boot when the machine is cold or very cool. I have no problem putting in anew drive. Ghost doesn't see the existing drive even when cold so that option is out. She only has the recovery disks that came with it which will be useless without the recovery partition on the drive. I don't know if it could be installed without that partition. My question is, if I download the Tablet software from Microsoft here: Download details: Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Software Development Kit 1.7 can I install XP Pro and then the Tablet software and it be just fine or is there something else in the OS that will be needed?
P.S. It runs just fine after you get it booted and doesn't crash. But if you shut it off, you have to let it cool completely to get it back on.

EDIT: Tried to run chkdsk/r but it said autocheck wasn't available for raw drives or something to that nature.

Answer:XP Tablet Edition

I dont think that will work. As that software if for building ink-enabled applications for Tablet PC. It is not for making the tablet part work. You will have to find a copy of XP Tablet Edition.

I just received a Compaq tc1000 Tablet PC from a friend in exchange for some computer help. What I would like to do is format it, and start from scratch. I have never used a tablet pc, so I am a bit confused on exactly what I need to re-install the OS. My friend did not have any of the restore discs, and I went to the compaq site to find drivers that were available. It only has drivers listed under 'xp tablet pc' operating system, but I am wondering if I would be able to put windows XP Professional on it and somehow integrate the drivers. Or do I need to contact Compaq and request a set of recovery discs, which I somehow doubt they would have with how old this system is now.

Ebay or Craigslist are your best options. What is the make and model # of your Tablet? The manufacturer may have a restore disc you can purchase.

I just bid on a tablet PC on eBay, and only noticed after I had placed the bid that it did not include an operating system. As per usual, with my luck, I won the auction.

When I set out to begrudgingly find an OS to buy, I discovered that Windows XP Tablet Edition is not available for purchase, and can only be found pre-loaded on computers. Somehow eBay still has some, but they're about $170, and I was hoping for something a bit cheaper considering I just bought a new computer which should already have it.

So my question is, if I buy Windows XP or Vista, will the stylus and tablet still work as a mouse? Or will it be reduced to a normal laptop with a pointless touch screen?

Any information on finding a ridiculously low-priced OS would also be very helpful, as I'm rather lacking in funds at the moment.

Thanks

After reviewing responses in older threads regarding the ability to install Windows XP on both a laptop and desktop and finding mixed answers, I called Microsoft and was told I could, in fact, install Windows XP on both. So, this leads me to the next question. I have Windows XP Tablet PC Edition...Can I install this on my desktop without problems? I realize it has many options that the Tablet can carry out that my desktop won't, but...

Does Vista have tablet features built in? I am going to get a tablet and I am wondering if I should go with vista business or XP Tablet 2005. I don't know if vista has the extra tablet features built into it that XP Tablet would have.

Also, go here: Finally getting a tablet
It talks about the tablet I'm getting.

Thanks

Answer:Vista Tablet Edition?

Tablet features are built into every edition of Vista except Basic. So as long as you get Home and above you will have Tablet features.

Hi, all! Got an odd problem with Word 2003 (Office Pro 2k3) running under XP Tablet Edition 2005 Version 2002 SP2 (Gateway E295C tablet). For some bizarre reason, the input panel (handwriting recog) doesn't insert text into Word documents. It works perfectly in Outlook, OneNote, Excel, notepad, etc, but I just can't get the bloody thing to work in Word 2k3!

I've done the usual MS KB & Google searches, none of which resolved any solid answers. Also tried to make sure the recommended settings/apps were installed per MS KB articles ("Handwriting" feature as Alternate User Input, "Text Settings" applet in control panel, etc), but a number of the things mentioned just plain don't exist on these new tablets. (Side note: three brand new tablets, all do the same thing (or don't, as the case may be), irrespective of patch, application, or hotfixes installed.)

Anyone have any direct experience with XP Tablet Edition and Word 2k3? It looks like a problem with that combination just begging for a hotfix, but can't find anything.

On a side note, we have a couple of these same tablets with regular XP/Pro installed (not the Tablet PC version) with tablet features and drivers installed that work fine (sans buttons) with all applications including Word 2k3, so...

Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks!
Jack

Answer:XP Tablet Edition & Word 2k3 anyone?

Haven't been able to get Word 2k3 to work, so I uninstalled Office 2k3 Pro and installed Office XP Pro. Same problem: input panel won't insert text into Word XP, but works perfectly with every other app.

Anyone?

Hello, I have a X61 Tablet Edition ThinkPad that currently has Windows Vista Business installed on it. I am interested in upgrading to Windows XP Tablet Edition but I am having great difficulty finding anywhere that actually sells the OS OEM or whether the X61 Tablet is actually even compatible with XP Tablet Edition. I was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction about where I can find the OS if it is in fact compatible with the X61. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you,-Tim

Answer:Upgrade to XP Tablet Edition??

XP Tablet Edition is compatible with the X61 Tablet. The tablet part is separate from XP, so you would need two CDs. the tablet functions will only install with a valid tablet edition serial number. The easiest thing would likely be to order a set of XP recovery discs for the X61 Tablet. This would give you XP Tablet edition and all of the drivers pre-loaded.

We are upgrading our computer os on some school computers. We ordered xp pro but was sent Table PC Edition 2005. Are they alike? Will it work on our desktops?

Hi,

I recently purchased a refurbished Toshiba M400 tablet PC/laptop from a reputable computer store. They origionally came preloaded with XP Tablet edition 2005 but I don't think that is what is on this machine. There is a Microsoft Genuine label on it with a product key and and a COA. It also has a Microsoft copyright date of 2004. What it doesn't indicate is what version of XP it is. When I check Control Panel/System, it indicates that it's Windows XP 2002 and that SP3 is installed.

For the most part I can use the stylus pen and it does work but some of the tablet buttons on the screen don't work properly and the handwriting function doesn't work, also there is supposed to be a lined pad type of software that can be used to write notes on using the stylus pen but it also is not available.

I'm wondering if Tablet edition is available on all XP discs and is unlocked using the correct product key. I have a copy of XP Pro from another PC I have and I'm wondering if I can use it combined with the legal product key for this laptop. If not can someone else suggest something I can do. If your asking why I don't take it back to the retailer it's only because they are a 2hr drive away from me and I don't get there too often so if there is a way I can resolve it myself I'd rather do that. I also have a legitimate copy of Vista Business that I know supports Tablet PC's but that would require getting all the Vista upgrade... Read more

Answer:Question about XP Tablet Edition 2005

The System Properties should show windows XP Tablet Edition if it is installed. Windows XP Tablet Edition is only available from the Tablet manufacturer. The features are not available in Windows XP Pro. Unfortunately Toshiba does not supply replacement discs for their Tablets. The only way to get it back is to send it to one of their repair facilities for 75.00 under warranty or for 75.00 out of warranty plus 35.00 initial call fee. Your laptop is Vista ready so you may have to install Vista if you want the Tablet functionality.

i have an hp tc1000 i am in the process of rebuilding. i have re-partitioned, re-formatted and re-installed the os (winxp) and most of the drivers i downloaded from the hp site. computer is up and running, i even got the little pen stylis able to move the mouse cursor and click on things. wireless is up and i am on the internet and joined to the domain, domain logins succeed and seem to be functioning properly. however, i still got a lot of yellow question marks in device manager. a PCI bus is one of them, and there are several "human interface devices" that are showing yellow ? as well. is there a special package/service pack/upgrade to winxp that converts it into winxp tablet edition? my instinct tells me if i install the xp stuff that is specific to the tablet computers it may help ameliorate some of these yellow ? in device manager. all feedback welcome. thank you. .

Answer:Infected Tablet Edition Comp

System Tool is a nasty put out by crooks trying to steal from you, whether it's money or data. Try booting into Safe Mode by tapping Function 8 as the system bootts up - if you're lucky, the Administrator account may not be quite so hamstrung as the normal User Accounts. AVG won't help in tnis instance but if you run a search in My Computer for .exe files created between two very recent dates - say January 5th and today, you might be able to find and delete the one that's causing it.

Greetings, My system is i7 Multitouch X230t. It was working fine from last 2 months till today when while turning my screen from laptop to Tablet configuration the touch and pen function suddenly disappeared. When trying to access the Pen and Tablet setting it gives an error " A supported tablet not found on the system".Also at the same time i noted that in my device manager a USB device is now labeled as Unknown device. I searched the net and tried everything. Restarting. - No effectUninstalling the unknown USB device and restarting - No effectUpdating all lenovo drivers from the lenovo Site - No effect System Recovery to an earlier Date (15 days) - No effect When i Tried to update Lenovo Multitouch/pen driver from lenovo site it give error " A supported tablet not found on the system" and aborts installing the driver. I uninstalled the wacom driver ISDdrivers.exe from windows Uninstall utility and again tried to install Multitouch and pen drivers but again it says " A supported tablet not found on the system". Someone please help. I am afraid it might be a hardware issue as the problem started when i turned the screen from laptop to tablet mode. Currently My X230t is just a Laptop and NOT a TABLET as there is NO touch and NO pen input, as if windows doesn't even recognize any tablet hardware on board. PLEASE HELP. Thankyou

Answer:Help: X230t " A supported tablet not found on the system" Problem. Its not a tablet anymore

Perhaps the cable got severed when you were turning it around? I've had a Wifi antenna cable break this way on an HP tablet... If it's still under warranty have them check it and replace it if necessary. It could also be a loose connector but there's no way to be sure without opening the screen assembly.

(I've just tried "preview post" several times and each time it's stripped the whitespace and turned my ten paragraphs into a megaparagraph. I'm going to try pressing "submit new thread" and hope it doesn't do it this time.)

Hello
My Wacom tablet's pen has died and I hope to have a new one arriving in a few days but in the meantime I dug out an old Hanvon Rollick tablet which isn't supported under Windows 10 (which I use) but I nevertheless found some Windows 7 drivers for it which people reported working under Windows 10.

The problem is my PC is trying to behave like a tablet e.g. putting that blue teardrop thing on text boxes on Chrome (I'm not sure of its correct name) and when I try to ctrl-click a link, it shows a little "ctrl" label under the cursor and won't open the link in a new tab like it's supposed to and just does it in the same tab.

It takes multiple tries to right-click and open a link and when I hover over the link the cursor keeps rapidly flashing between the arrow and finger icons.

It is very difficult to click minimise, restore or close on Chrome because hovering over them doesn't make them go red and clicking on them doesn't tend to make them do anything unless you try many, many times. It's being profoundly irritating in programs other than Chrome too but those are some examples.

I was used to old my Wacom (Volito 2) trying to do tablet-like things but stopped it doing bubbles with gpedit's "turn off pen feedbac... Read more

After maybe 2 hrs of googling I've given up,. there's very little on google, and now im considering doing a "Rest This PC." Any help would be appreciated.
