I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Microphone option not found in the master volume control but in recording control

Hi

I just noted your post in passing, have a look at your audio properties via the control panel in XP not sure about vista...See what you have set for playback and recording options you may have something different for each of the options in these tabs like recording control, playback device etc...

If your no joy, also have a look in the device manager and see what audio device you are using, if you have onboard audio and an expansion audio card (eg not built into the mother board) like a soundblaster audigy or similar then ensure this is selected for the appropriate recording or playback in sound properties. You might want to check to be sure the onboard is audio if any is disabled in the bios otherwise this may causr an IRQ conflict which you can check via the device manager on the audio properties.

I recently installed the Soundblaster Audigy and had all sorts of fun with it initially, untill i checked which IRQ (interupt request) it was using and found about four other devices all trying to run through the same irq, once this was sorted it was all joy and happiness...oh also check your drivers well your at it.

The other thing it might be is there are options in the (FILE) menu for volume control the one that lists maater volume wave microphone etc.. you can select which options to display and therfore in turn adjust in retrospect you may want to check this out as its the least complicated / time consuming of the options I've listed ...Good luck:wave

I connected a DAC to my laptop and set it as the default device from the control panel. Now the master volume mixer does not work at all.

When I change change the "master volume" slider - the others (WMP, firefox, etc...) apparently change with it too but there is no effect on the actual volume. But when I change each individual mixer it does.

How do I fix the master volume so that it works as normal? Any help is appreciated.

I am looking for an app which displays a large volume knob instead of trying to use the tiny windows media player volume bar. Maybe there's another player app to play music as well you could recommend (not windows media player) which has this feature. I will be outputting through USB to an audio processor which has its own software but not an ideal master volume control. I will eventually connect a Blu-ray/cd external drive as well I would like it to work with on my surf pro 3. Thanks!

ok so this problem was just about from the beginning. i thought i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of Msn M. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by youtube, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m. even now with live messenger i have the issue. im tired of being patient so here i am

Today, my volume control malfunctioned. It stays in an all the way down position. When I try to slide it up it takes "itself" back down. If I hold onto the left mouse button I get sound for 1-2 sec. but the screen slider takes "itself" back down anyway.I tried many videos on separate sites and still no sound due to control malfunction.Yesterday I had to call Norton since the updates were not installing. They ran a Power Eraserwhich found an insignificant file as 'unknown' and then it was removed. The update problem was due to the calender set to the wrong month (after I checked another month's upcoming date I forgot to put it back). It is not muted.Compaq Evo D500, Windows XP Pro

This on is quite perplexing to me. This is stemming from a volume problem that I had posted before. I have more detail and have narrowed down the problem but not the cause of such. When ever I click the volume control in winamp, not adjust necessarily, just click, my wave setting in my volume control (pannel that comes up by double clicking the speaker in the tray) drops. Of course this affects my overall volume. It is sparatic and does not drop the same amount two times in a row but will drop everytime I click volume in winamp. I am running winXP pro and have not installed so much as an update since the last time this was happening. The only thing I did change is I set up voice recognition in Office XP but I was having this problem before that. I have uninstalled and cleaned out all winamp files and reinstalled. Any suggestions? Winamp is the only player of any kind that this currently happens with.

Also, whenever I am using winamp to play an mp3 or streaming audio and I open another program, any program, or even just minimize/maximize a window, the audio starts cracking. This also has never happend before except of course when there is a heavy load on the system. As I said I am running XP pro, and FYI a Duron 900 cpu and 448MB RAM. As I am having these problems I am using 5% to 10% of my cpu and have 21000k physical memory availible according to task mgr.

Thanks.

Hello,

On my newly purchased Pro A200/PSAE7 the (hardware) volume control - front side, right from speaker plug - turns endless and when using it the volume does not change "smooth" - more "abrupt". Because of this there is no "fine tuning" possible.

Q: Does somebody else has the same hardware side (endless turn) and software side (no smooth volume change) situation?

Many thanks for any reply in advance!

Best regards,

Short Story
Wave meter in volume control keeps stopping. I googled it, seems to be a virus. Performed a virus scan, came up with nothing. Did it with another anti-virus program, also showed nothing. Need help. Thanks.

Long Story
So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

mmmm....actually i've had a very similiar problem....not quite sure how i fixed it though. Try updating your drivers for your soundcard, that might help. Also(obviously) go into control panel, and mess with things from there. Also, do you have any errors with any sound drivers of any kind? i know if....kind of nuke some of mine(stupid me) with an anti-adware program....if you have that could be part of the prob, and those usually aren't to hard to fix, just take a little time.

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? Hi everyone,

I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case.

I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume.

What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it's volume control turned up, then open the MP3 with Medial player, it will sound normal in media player, (plenty of volume). If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down, close it, then play a file with Media Player, there will be no sound at all.

Somehow, the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening ? Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing ?

It's not a big deal now that I found out what was going on, but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts. It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other, I'm just wondering what might be going on. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Ed... Read more

Answer:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

I cannot get my sound control to work properly. Pressing volume keys on keyboard do not really change sound. It either does nothing or makes the sound too loud. Changing the gain in the soundcard software does the same thing. Changing the sound in one place and then again somewhere else [say change volume in software, then go to change it via keyboard] just resets the sound to really low and then it suddenly gets very loud. Answer:Windows XP - Volume Control

Does your system use onboard audio or an add-on sound card?  Open Device Manager and expand the section of Sound, video and game controllers.  What's the exact title of your PCI Audio Device?  If you double-click on it, does the Properties panel say it's working properly?

Hello I running athlon 64 3200 processor on a gigabyte k8vm800m board rev 2,through windows xp.
It has onboard sound ac97. went I use my headset I got no mic volume! tried new drivers and in control panel when i try to adjust it I get a sound32.exe error? I had a problem deleting the driver update but finally think I fixed it? Any idea's on how to fix the little gem? Thanks for the time.

Answer:trouble setting up mic volume in windows

It's easy to overlook, but is your onboard sound enabled in the BIOS? The driver disk that came with your mobo should also have the correct AC97 drivers to install. If you get those to work, I wouldn't try to find a later version--"if it ain't broke..."

I would like to control the volume of a player, foobar, Aimp, XBMC, a Media Center etc. with the volume control of a keyboard or a remote control, but when I use these keys the Windows volume control will be used? How could I avoid it?

Answer:Avoid using Windows volume control?

I don't think that you can...you could do so within Windows by use of an app, but...even then I suspect that just mutes or feeds off the Windows volume control.

I have Sndvol32.exe files in the system folder. In fact there are the following files:
Sndvol32.exe
Sndvol32.exe.mui (3 of these)
SNDVOL32.EXE-0EC6FD20.pf

I tried to execute the first file but I got the message: There are no active mixer devices available. Click printers and other hardware, then click add hardware. But I don't have printers and hardware, just printers and faxes.
What should I do to get the volume icon back in the taskbar? I don't have the original Windows XP installation disk.
Thanks

Hello, I am looking for a program that would allow me to adjust the volume of different applications (and master) using hotkeys (+mouse wheel) in Windows XP.A few programs come close, but either don't have application control or don't have hot-keys. If anybody knows of such a program please share,Thank you!

Answer:Per application volume control in WIndows XP

Unless the programs you're using have their own volume controls, this isn't possible, except as a master volume control which Windows already has.

When I select the Volume Control from the toolbar, or Adjust System Volume from the Control Panel, I usually get two sliders: one for Device - Speakers and one for Applications - Windows Sounds. Sometimes however, apparently at random, I get three sliders; for example when iTunes is active I get a third slider for it.

Recently I got a third slider for Windows Mail, which was handy because at that time I happened to want the Mail notification to be quieter than other sounds, so I pushed that slider down to halfway. That made Windows Mail very quiet, which was just what I wanted on that day.

My problem is, I would like to restore the volume of my Windows Mail notification to its former level, but I can't make that third slider reappear. Can anyone suggest where I can find it?

First I noticed that the speaker icon in the bottom right corner wasn't there for my audio controls (and no, it's not hiding in task bar properties). Then I went to the Audio icon in my control panel to check the box "place volume icon in the taskbar" and it says: Windows cannot display because volume control has not been installed. See add/remove programs".

WHAT THE HECK?! It's not IN my list of programs to install, obviously! How'd I delete it, and more importantly -

how can I get it back???

I've recently encountered a bizarre problem on my XP Professional machine. When I click on the volume control button near the clock, my computer will freeze and won't respond to anything but the restart button. I have no idea what could be causing this. I've scanned my comp with Norton as well as AdAware and SpyBot, hoping that viruses or spyware could be the issue, but I had no luck. Trying a system restore wasn't able to fix the problem either.

Other problems with freezes occur in Trillian, Winamp and Windows Media Player, but these seem random, not every time I start the programs. All these symptoms appeared at the same time, so I'm assuming they're somehow related. I've tried switching to Winamp 5.3 for mp3 files and video files, but the freezes still occur. The problem with video files extends even to looking at their thumbnails, which sometimes causes my computer to freeze as well...

Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Windows XP M.C.E. Remote Volume Control

Give this a try and you have to have the Windows install software for the computer for this procedure or it will not work. It is a non-destructive procedure and will not hurt the date but I recommend backing up all of your important data anyway to another media like DC-R's, DVD or thumb drive first. And you might have to re-install any service packs, Drivers, and Windows Updates.

My Windows 7 was installed in Drive C: in Primary partition.

I only have another drive D:, which is also a Primary partition and 200GB in size.

I need to create another drive. So, I use 'Shrink Volume' on Drive D: and free 30GB.

Then 30GB become free space and when I right click on that, I choose to 'Simple Volume' and then format it as NTFS and assign the drive letter E:. All of a sudden after I did that, all the partitions(C: and D now no longer say "Primary Partition". The blue color on top of the partitions also changed to a yellow/brownish color. My guess is that they have been converted to a Simple Volume too.

Well, then I just restart my PC and astonished that my windows 7 can't load. Only a blank screen come ahead to me. No error message given.

I use my Windows 7 DVD and in repair windows section, I use command line and by 'diskpart', i found, my all partition (C: and D: and E present their and there file system is: 'NTFS' and Type is "Simple". No drive there marked as a 'System' or 'boot'.

What should I do now, to recover my Windows 7?

Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Question: Master volume

Hi all.

I am using XP home edition x32

Sound card hardware - Realtek high definition audio (thats the only info i can find - [Acer one A0531h])

I am trying to get L/R balance.

I wish to listen to music through the R speaker
and everything else via the L speaker.

I can use L/R channels via VLC media player but doesn't actually split the audio >_>

Is there a 3rd party master volume program or can someone help me out?

Many thanks!

Answer:Master volume

Your audio jack is a Stereo port. So, it will not split the audio into 2 mono mixes. I think you would be really hard pressed to find software or a sound card that could do what you are asking.

I'd access it by selecting the ^ to the left of the time and date on the bottom right hand side of the screen. But a few days ago, it was missing. I then clicked Customize, then Turn system icons on or off. The On/Off selection for the volume control
was greyed out yesterday, so I could not turn it on. Have no idea how it got turned off. Today, the On/Off drop down can be accessed, and I closed that screen and noticed the volume control is there again - between the Wi-Fi signal strength icon and Norton
Security. I'm no longer having trouble but I do wonder how/why did the volume icon get removed, and why was I not able to turn it back on? I don't recall changing any related settings or accessing Control Panel.

I am using Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2.

Long Story:
The for a long period of time the left channel of my audio output was not working. I attributed this to a problem with the 3.5 mm output jacks, because after the front jack stopped giving left channel I moved to the rear jack until that one broke as well. I recently opened up the case, blew out a lot of dust, and poked the jacks a little with a screwdriver. This brought back left channel in the front jack, and partially fixed the rear. (If I inserted the male end of the jack only half-way in I could get both channels.)

I then noticed that the balances were all screwed up. I use a 2.1 speaker setup, and found that I could only get the bass working if I inserted the male jack halfway in to the input on the woofer, similiar to my problem with the rear output of my case and the left channel. Now that bass was returned it still sounded squeaky and/or muffled. I discovered that if I moved the Wave balance all the way to the left in the windows Volume Control panel it would sound normal. It would also sound odd if I had the Main Volume balance to the right at all.

Short Story:
However, whenever I play a new song or adjust the volume in an external program (such as WinAmp or RealPlayer) the balance is centered in the Windows Volume Control panel.Click to expand...

Problem: when i play songs or watch videos or do anything that deals with the sound, the wave slider in the volume control will automatically jump from the high volume that i set it at to mute.

I have checked out the properties and volume control properties and still can't find a way for it to stay un-mute.

My volume control is the SoundMax Digital Audio driver...
i checked the hardware and it says it working properly and i can hear the sounds but only for some time, before the wave volume automatically jumps to mute...

this is getting annoying....

Any one have a solution to keep my wave volume from muting it self permanently...

Please Respond ASAP

Answer:Windows Xp Volume Control With Wave Slider

Hmmm...you might try using the native XP volume icon, rather than Sound Max.

I have SM on my system but I don't bother to use, I see no advantage to using the XP volume control (I did try the Sound Max control for a period of time) and any program I use for music file playback will have it's own volume controls.

Could be possible file corruption...I might try uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers which load Sound Max (if I really wanted to use it).

One thing to remember about Device Manager...it has no way (that I know of) to distinguish/inform the user...if a file is corrupt or not.

Hi all,

By now i'm sure you've all seen this volume display in Windows 8-10

From what I can work out, this is a volume display designed for tablets and notebooks that use hardware to alter volume.

That is all good when using a tablet, but not for a PC. Speaking plainly, it's annoying, and I want it gone.

I have a Logitech keyboard with SetPoint installed, with which I can turn off any volume notifications, however, once in a while it doesn't load on start-up and I am once again greeted with this little gremlin on my screen.

I want to turn it off so it never again shows up, but I can't for the life of me work out how. I've tinkered with various volume settings, and ease of access controls, but nothing works.

I know there must be a registry option for this somewhere but I'm not quite that good with PC's yet to attack my registry lol. So i'm hoping some wise soul here knows how to combat this and rid my system of it for good.

As i've mentioned there are ways around it, but I would prefer a clear fix to turn it off for good, I should be allowed that function after all, don't you think?

Thanks for your time. Any questions then please ask.

Hi all,

Just joined up....
What I want is actually the opposite of what most people are looking for.
I want to install windows 8 on my kids computer but want the volume level to be set at a certain level so the sound is not to high no matter what they do.

I am able to achieve this right now as the desktop is on XP and i have the wave bar set to a certain level so no matter how high they put the volume bar it just stays at a certain level.I have hidden the wave bar so they cannot even get at it by mistake.

The main thing is that I am using a sidewinder X4 keyboard which has the vol+/- so they can easily increase the volume even if I hide the volume tab from the desktop in windows 8, while in XP it remained a certain lvel even if they put it upto 100%.

I have been searching for win 8 mixers where I could maybe have the same type of control as the XP but so far have found nothing.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and used

Okay so I went to hop on my desktop today, it wasn't waking up when I move mouse etc, which was odd because it was on. So I restarted it and I've had two options for windows 10 for a while now volume 1 and 4 I don't know why, I've always used 1 but now when I click 1 it just goes to black screen, monitor is awake cause my light turns blue when it is, I pressed windows key with something I forgot what button while in black screen and sound was coming through. So I restated again and went on volume 4 and that worked fine out dated stuff since I haven't used it but it was working. I would like to get back on my main volume, or at least know what the issue is.

i did a Nvidia graphic card update a day or two ago as well.
i also tried to go to the troubleshoot screen when you open windows 10 which worked fine, but when I clicked restore to a previous time-black screen- and then I tried removing everything completely clicked that option -black screen-
Thanks for help ahead of time!!

Answer:Windows 10 black screen on volume 1(main) and not Volume 4(old)

UPDATE: so I went into volume 4 and attempted a complete wipe again, once I clicked it screen went black for a while and no sign it was working, so now I put in my windows XP disk and am going to attempt a clean install of that, then just upgrade to windows 10.

Hello....grrrr Im frustrated. I am hoping someone can help me. I have always been able to find the answers I need here.

I am working on a friends laptop and about two weeks ago the master volume slider started dropping on its own to zero (the mute check never goes on though ...it just drops to zero). I have explored about 40 resolutions from software to hardware trying to correct the problem. Short of a complete re-install of OS.

things I have tried:
SOftware:
Un-installed about a dozen uneeded and possible conflicting software such as real players, limewire, ipod software, Itunes software.
-No avail
Un-installed and re-installed sound card drivers
-No Avail
Tried both system restore and hard disk restore
-No avail
Explored and removed several possible malicious software items through different parts of the C drive via DOS. Mostly these were mere browser assisters etc etc...(my browser is working much better now Heh..
-still no avail
Tried driver updates
-No avail
Tried every malicious removal tool i have (Hijack this, spybot, combofix...etc)
-No avail
Tried to restore regsitry and explored registry to make sure the volume was enabled
-No avail
Tried to shut off all computer functions (both msconfig and task manager items)besides explorer and windows access only
-No avail

Theres actually probably in the past two days more software issues (minor) besides these that I have tried also. None that I have not come across in a thread already as a possible solution.

Hi,

All of a sudden today my computer's Master Volume control started muting/unmuting itself every thirty seconds or so. It is terribly annoying as I can't listen to iTunes or play games anymore. I tried restarting the machine after a spyware/virus scan turned up blank but it is still happening. I also tried unplugging/replugging the mouse/keyboard/speakers and its still happening. Has anyone even heard of this happening before?

thanks,

Answer:Master Volume is muting itself

Could still be a virus or malware, don't just trust one source of protection. I did a check on my pc using the software I have been using for years and found nothing, booted using a Diagnostics Boot CD with spyware and virus programs and picked up a few that had gone unnoticed, it depends upon the program that is being used and whether the virus writers have found a way to work around it, also what the software is able to detect. They don't detect everything.

The Volume balance control sliders that you can access from Sound > Speaker Properties > Levels > Balance only control the volumes that each individual speaker has.

Recently I went through a day of torture by an unsuccessful attempt to System Restore. I lost a display driver from some inadvertent deletion in either Sytem Mechanic or some other registry cleanup program. I tried several solutions, then, perhaps prematurely, reinstalled Windows XP Pro. Experiencing further difficulties, I then reinstalled Service Pack 1, which fixed the display problem pretty much. BUT... some sound problems developed:

a) I was no longer able to locate any volume or play control. I found an article in the Windows Knowledge Base that told me how to install the play control panel through the command prompt from my XP Pro disk. This fixed this problem... But...

b) While I can now control the volume through the sys tray icon and the play control panel, I no longer have this function on my keyboard! I reinstalled the keyboard software from a download site, and the keyboard's shortcut button functions all work BUT NOT the volume control. The mute button works fine, but NOT the volume control buttons (the - and + buttons). They were working fine previous to my reinstalling Windows. I fear that some registry file or setting needs fixing.

c) Lately I have discovered a final and third problem. There is no sound recorder in my files! I find NO sound recorder in my Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment section, nor anything like this by conducting a file search. It seems that this recorder didn't get installed when I reinstalled Windows. Is there a file... Read more

Answer:No Sound Recorder in Windows XP and Can't Use Volume Control on Keyboard!

Check Device manager and particularly the Keyboard and Sound items. If either have yellow marks or don't agree with what you know to be the correct item, delete all of the listings and ask for a new detection, as you can do there.

Even if there are no apparent problems shown there, delete those two items anyway, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Windows will pick them up again and perhaps you'll get lucky.

Beyond that, be certain that you are supplying the correct drivers for the enhanced keyboard that you apparently have and if you have sound card drivers, supply those instead of letting Windows do a default selection for you. Normally XP does well that way, but you're evidently not a normal case.

Good luck.

Hi everybody,

I am running Windows Vista SP1 on a new Dell computer, and have Windows Media Player 11 installed. The problem is with the volume control and it seems pretty strange. The volume control only works on WMV files. If I play any wmv file, I can control the volume, moving the slider, or I can completely mute the sound. However, with any other type of file (avi, mpeg), the volume is always at its maximum and moving the slider left or right doesn't do a thing. Pressing mute doesn't work either.

I am getting sound from a digital audio output on my sound card (Auzentech) and it goes to a DD 5.1 receiver.

I've searched the web, including Microsoft, and couldn't find anything related. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks!

Hi,

I have a Sony Gold Wireless headset and it works perfectly fine, the only issue is that the windows volume Control (the slide in the task bark) doesn't affect it at all. So in order to change the volume i have to either use the built-in buttons of the headset, or whatever software am currently using, this is not a critical issue but am very used to the volume buttons i have in the keyboard (specially the "Mute" button).

What i tried so far :
Making it the default playback device :

Enabling bluetooth services :

I also tried using the "troubleshoot tool" and updating the driver, nothing solved this issue, because like i said, the headset is playing Sound correctly, its just that somehow it overwrite windows sound control or something.
I also did some comparison with my Razer headset and i noticed something a bit weird,

In my other Windows-10 pc, when playing AC/DC - Highway to hell solo on full volume, the playback device volume bars looks like this :

Playing the exact same song from the exact same source (Spotify) with full volume and also with the Razer headset, the volume bars don't get passed "4-5 bars" even thought that in my ears it's as loud as the other computer :
And for the sony Headset, it shows the same result in the "bad" and "good" PC (can't pass 4-5 bars)

Hello All,When I use an external microphone plugged into the microphone jack, I am unable to control the volume. When I speak into it and listen to the playback, it's all distorted from the excess volume. If I go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices, under the Recording tab it shows Microphone SoundMax Intergrated Digital HD Audio. If I click on it and then click on Properties, it brings up a new window with a Levels tab. On the Levels tab is a slider volume control from 1 to 100. I can slide it back to a lower volume level but it will not stay there. As soon as I start recording, it jumps back to 100. There is an Apply button on that same tab window but it is grayed out.Does anyone know what I need to do to get the recording level to stay at a lower setting?

Answer:Unable to control microphone volume on T61 with Windows Vista

You could check to see whether there is a "mic boost" in one of the tabs.  I have one in a custom tab.  If so, uncheck it if you are getting too much input from the mic.

Hi i have a problem with my windows vista. When i click on the volume control in the taskbar and move the slider down you will see it automatically move itself back up to 100. I cant seem to have control of it and another thing is when i go to start/all programs, and click on a folder it will automatically move up as well causing me not to be able to enter into a folder. Thank you if anyone has a solution.

Answer:Windows vista volume control increases automatically

Do you have a spare keyboard? Sounds like the Up arrow key is fubared or stuck.

Hi .

I am new here. For the past few weeks I have been having problems with my taskbar. It keeps crashing whenever I use the volume control located externally on my laptop(increasing or decreasing the volume). It randomly happens. I am currently running AVG antivirus. I scan the computer everyday with it. Also used the Windows Live OneCare scanner from Microsoft website. All scans show up clean. I try to close the explorer.exe from the task manager and restart it but the problem stays till i restart my computer again. I ran a DDS scan and these are the results from it. My Firefox works fine. I do not know if its a malware causing this. I dont have any unnecessary popups either. I also heard about combofix but not sure if i need to use it.

Any ideas anybody??

Syed

Also when i restart the explorer again the sound icon disappears from the taskbar, and i also updated my audio driver software from my laptop manufacturer website and the problem still persists.

To keep things simple I have recetly built my own HTPC and am using a HDA Digital Mystique 7.1 Gold soundcard for audio. When I use the windows remote to adjust the volume it only changes the volume of the master volume level and leaves the wave volume level unchanged. I know that my best bet is to simply change the volume on my AV Receiver and leave the Wave and Master volume at mid - max but when my girlfriend uses the HTPC she always uses the remotes volume control.

Having said that I would simply like the option of being able to change the volume of my HTPC via the MS remote instad of just the amp.

If more information is needed or if you would like a better explanation of what I am trying to acheive then please feel free to ask.

Regards, Matt.

Answer:Adjusting Wave and Master Volume

You said the remote can controll the master volume. So just turn everthing else up to full and then just use the remote, because the master volume will controll the whole volume.

Hey, I just upgraded my windows 98se desktop (Acer Veriton 3300) to windows XP Pro while my laptop is getting fixed, but a very weird problem just came up - The master volume slider in the volume dialog control doesn't do anything - even the mute all button! I have to control volume levels from the "Wave" slider. Very annoying, as the volume hotkeys on my keyboard control the master volume slider only!! I've been googling and http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080724131719AA0JLNM told me to go to services.msc and set Windows Audio to automatic, but it was already on automatic. Any ideas?

Just a hunch, try a different mouse... if your mouse has a scroll wheel, it could be reducing the volume. Same if you have a keyboard with volume control or something like that.

It's an easy thing to try and eliminate as the source of the problem

Most notably, web browsers.

I have quite sensitive headphones, so I keep the system master volume at around 20%, and the youtube video volume at around 20% as well. This is all great, but when I close and restart the browser and start watching a youtube video again, the sound is SUPER loud, even though the youtube volume slider is in the same place. If I open the system master volume knob and move it up or down 1 value, the program seems to realize it's not respecting the system volume and goes back to normal.

Any way to fix this?

I have MusicMatch Jukebox on my WinXP pc. When MMJ is turned on it invariably adjusts the Wave slider in the Windows sound panel. The result is lower sound. There also seems to be a conflict sometimes between MMJs own independent volume slider & the Windows volume control.None of my other media players have any of the above problems.Any ideas.Cheers.

Answer:WINDOWS VOLUME & MUSICMATCH VOLUME CONFLICT?

Hi rotormota, I had a similar problem with Winamp. It turned out that the Winamp volume slider was set at 50%.Using media player was fine but everytime I used Winamp it reduced the volume slider on my Windows play control by half.Mike

I've had this problem with Windows Vista Ultimate 64, Windows 7 64 7077, and Windows 7 64 7100.

Basically, the volume starts out at normal level, then all the sudden it will be real quiet. It stays quiet and no matter what settings I adjust, I cannot get it to play louder again. I would really like to disable all of the volume controls in windows and run Bit Perfect audio....

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
Audio Rig: B&K 7270, Emotiva DMC-1, Polk LSI-25

That amp is putting out nearly 400 wpc (weighing nearly 100lbs O_O) to each speaker... My normal listening volume is -46 db (on my DMC-1)... now I have to put it on -17Db to get the same listening level. Something is wrong, and it's definitely the settings in windows.

I noticed the change immediately while I was listening and accidentally adjusted the bass settings in windows sound settings, the sound level fell instantly, and never returned...

any ideas?

*****Currently working***** Any ideas on the Bit Perfect audio?

Answer:Windows 7 7100 - Fluctuating Volume/Low volume

The issue I am having is in a way similar, it goes loud and the base starts to distort...very minimal, hardly noticeable on most songs. I am running the 32bit version on a ROG X-Fi MB which uses the SoundMax AD2000

Since a long while ago I've been having some weird issues with audio on my HP Netbook. Whenever I listen to audio on anything that has a separate volume slider (e.g. Youtube videos or iTunes) the volume is always at maximum. If I slide the slider back to minimum the sound slowly crawls back up to maximum while the slider stays down at minimum. Strangely this only seems to happen when using headphones/earbuds. I tried recreating it without headphones but it does not appear when using the laptop speakers. I also tried changing earbuds/headphones but to no avail, the sound kept playing on maximum volume. Also to make clear, the windows volume sliders work just fine. When at minimum the sound stays at minimum. It's only on separate volume sliders that are embedded in programs themselves. Julliath

I recently bought a dell computer second-hand from my friend, who had XP installed on it. It came with a subwoofer and a set of 4 regular speakers. On it, he had installed a form of creative volume control in addition to windows volume. The way it worked was he had the windows volume set to 100% at all times, and the creative volume control around 3% for regular browsing, 10-25% for gaming and 50% or higher for rocking out with music. I recently acquired windows 7 home premium x64 and upgraded my operating system. My soundblaster card has all the necessary drivers and the audio is all hooked up properly, and the only thing missing is this form of volume control. After looking around for the old software and trying a few different freeware and shareware programs, nothing has pulled through for me; any suggestions?

Answer:Creative sound card, windows 7 compatible volume control?

What exact sound card do you have?

Have you checked creative's website for additional software that goes along with the driver of your card? Is the windows volume not sufficient for you, or do you just want the extra ability for volume control?

If you installed the creative driver, have you checked in the audio control panel that's built into the driver?
