Destination net unreachable, recurring issue

Question: Destination net unreachable, recurring issue

I keep having an issue with one specific site and the problem is incredibly odd. Every weekend for the last 3 weeks, starting at about 11am on saturday and going through the weekend until monday, the site in question will be totally unreachable from any PC on my network. I can reach it from my phone on VZW LTE, but not from the WLAN. If I ping the site I get an error "Destination Net Unreachable". If I run a tracert I go about 15-18 hops before getting the same error. If I plug the PC directly into the modem, the website is reachable. That definitely indicates a router-side problem. The thing is, the router's configuration hasn't been touched in months, if not years, and the problem is recent. the router in question is a DIR-655, and there is no QOS, no parental controls, nothing that has been manually set up that would obviously be causing this issue. The setup is as barebones as it gets. Again, it is one specific website (pbnation.com), everything else works 100% fine. Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,When I ping one IP
Sometimes the below error:
What is difference between?
 Destination net unreachable.
 Destination Host unreachable.

Answer: Destination net unreachable.

Here are answers to your problems

For problém diagnostics you will need to analyze output from ipconfig /all, from routing tables when you work behind local network and network analyzer for detailed analysis of packet exchane (Wireshark will do the trick)

Answer:Destination net unreachable

Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.

I've created a new thread for your issue here.

Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I have a number of XP and W7 PCs in a domain with internet connection, all working fine.

I've wired my Linux laptop to the network, DHCP, and it can talk to other devices on the network. But I can't get connected to any site outside the network - ping to any external address gives "192.168.1.1 Destination Net Unreachable" 192.168.1.1 is the correct address for the router, and any Windows machine can ping to any address via that same router.

Any ideas please?

Lets take it in a few steps. Try pinging your gateway 192.168.1.1 to see if we get errors. If not, then ping your DNS servers (124.106.6.2 & 124.106.4.2). Then try pinging 108.175.7.71. What are your results?

I have searched everything and tried everything. Have an HP Desktop Pavilion. Purchased a MFC 8950dw Printer. One Desktop in the office Acer M3470 connected without Disks, system works beautifully. We have a Linksys wireless router. On the HP Pavilion nothing works. Continue to get "destination host unreachable". Here are the specks. Any help other than what's already been offered? I removed all firewall trying to make that work.

Answer:destination host unreachable

You need to tell us what the problem is, not what error you get. What are you trying to do? What are you pinging? Is the HP Pavillion connected to the router via WiFi or cable? Can it connect to the Internet?
Any other pertinent information would help.

First step is to trouble shoot to determine the cause.

If you want help from somebody you need to describe your network and computers (with respect to the network).

I'm getting this message when I tracert sf.net. No other website is having problems being accessed from my network, only sourceforge. A ping responds with:
Reply from 66.35.250.203: Destination port unreachable.

A tracert responds with 15 successful hops, and then:
16 sourceforge.net [66.35.250.203] reports: Destination protocol unreachable.

I cant figure out where the problem is originating. I created a static route to allow all traffic to this address on my 1710 router. My SDSL modem is able to ping and tracert successfully. Ping and tracert from my Cisco 1710 router gives the unreachable error.
Network setup is:
LAN -------> Cisco 1710 --------> Efficient SDSL 5851

Any help is appreciated.

To put it simply, I'm just trying to successfully ping machines attached to a hub for now. Here is the setup:

5 Port ethernet Hub
Computer connected to port 1
Linux machine connected to port 2
Linux machine connected to port 3

Both linux machines have (different) static IP addresses. None of this is connected to any outside network, internet, etc. I don't know what I'm doing wrong with this setup because I can't successfully ping the Linux machines from my computer and I'm not sure what the issue is.

Answer:Ping-Destination Host unreachable?

Are the assigned ip address to each machine on the same subnet?

for example if I set the following ip addresses

1 - 192.168.1.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
2 - 192.168.1.2 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
3 - 192.168.1.3 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

so each computer is on the 192.168.1 network.
In this example each computer would be able to ping each other.

if each computer was configured on different networks like the following:

1 - 192.168.1.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
2 - 192.168.2.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
3 - 192.168.3.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

In this case each computer is on a different network 192.168.1, 192.168.2, and 192.168.3, so in this example the only way for those computers to talk to each other is if a router was in place on each network. Without a router you would get network unreachable or something to that effect.

First I have done successfully the connect from LAN 1 to LAN 2 and I can ping all hosts from LAN 1 to LAN 2 in both network and vice versa using RIP routing.
Second when I need to do same thing but I need LAN 3 to reach all LAN's and Facing Destination host unreachable problem.

what I should be do.
I hope you can help me to find where my mistake to solve it.

Thank you very much.

Answer:Solved: Destination host unreachable.

Given that you are using RIP (an old routing protocol not used in current production environments), and the name of the file you attached is "assignment2", I think it's safe to assume this is a school assignment.

Unfortunately we cannot provide assistance with school assignments here.

I have asked for an administrator/moderator to stop by your thread.

Just happen to read my last attack notice
.
It gave a source IP address
Destination port: N/A
Attack type: ICMP Destination Unreachable

There were four entries of this in 2 minutes, in my firewall log. Any ideas what this is?

Thanks

Answer:ICMP Destination Unreachable warning

These are usually just ping entries. Some applications and sites use them just to check on the validity of connections. It's possible someone was scanning ports, but that really depends on the pattern, and more sophisticted scanners use a scattered pattern that is not so easily detected by firewalls.

In any case, it was blocked. In some cases, you may find that you need to allow some ICMP traffic for applications to work correctly.

Linux IPv6 Destination Unreachable problem
Hello,

Please help! I am quite new to network programming and so I tested out a sample client-Server application. The TCP or UDP client is either setup as either IPv6 or IPv4, depending on the server address type input by the user on a command line. The server has 4 sockets, one each for TCP/IPv6, TCP/IPv4, UDP/IPv6, UDP/IPv4. There is no router on this network, and the two platforms are on the same link

The client is able to communicate with the server in following combinations:

1) Client TCP IPv4, Server IPv4
2) Client UDP IPv4, Server IPv4
3) Client TCP IPv6, Server IPv4 using IPv6 mapped IPv4 address
4) Client UDP IPv6, Server IPv4 using IPv6 mapped IPv4 address
5) Client TCP IPv6, Server IPv6 both on same plaforms
6) Client UDP IPv6, Server IPv6 both on same plaforms

However, the following does not work is client and server are on diffent platforms
1) Client TCP IPv6, Server IPv6
2) Client UDP IPv6, Server IPv6

However, the application has a problem connecting. The tracedump6 shows the ICMPv6 message indicating “Destination unreachable”, “Unreachable address”.

The ping6 command from client to server platform works fine. I am at a deadend.

Following are some of the information for debugging. Will appreciate any help I can get in fixing this problem.

Hi guys I'm new here hope you can help :)
- have seen a similar thread in windows, probably should have been in networking section I apologize.
My internet provider has Wi-fi networks across the city, our tenement house has a receiver.
I am connected to router via cable. With very varied frequency I am getting random packet loss - up to 5% which makes e.g. gaming annoying.
It does so for all websites I tried.

At times there is no packet loss for even 5 minutes, sometimes every 20seconds or so I get "request timed out" followed by "10.6.41.1 destination unreachable"

- Is the issue on providers' site, or between my PC and the router?
-Any solutions to fix this?

Hey Everyone! I'm having some bizarre issues with all of my Lenovo W530/W540's.  I'm not sure when the issue started, the first time it was reported to me was around March, and it has been persistant since the issue was discovered.  The issue is that, quite frequently, our Lenovo W530/W540's will get Destiantion Host Unreachable if I run a continuous ping (ping -t ...) to anything outside our firewall. I have run a ping to things inside our firewall (other computers/servers, etc.) and they will return good ping until the cows come home. However, if I try to ping anything outside our firewall (google.com, google DNS 8.8.8.8, yahoo.com, etc.) about every 30 seconds (every 30-35 returns) it starts returning Destitnation Host Unreachable from our Firewall.  This will last for around 10-25 returns, and then traffic goes back to normal. We are a majority Apple Shop, and when I attempt to ping from any Apple on the network, it get fine returns consistently.  I also tried pinging from the few non-Lenovo Windows Machines we have as well (my personal machine which is self-built Windows rig, a couple of windows test machines, and a Windows 2008 Server we have) and they also have consistently good returns as well. It is ONLY the Lenovo's that have this problem.  To compound things, they have no issue when they are connected to a different network other than the company network.  This ONLY happens when they try to interact with traffi... Whenever I try to access www.dlink.com (or subdomains), or www.dzone.com, I get a "Connection closed by remote server" error in Opera (similar messages in other browsers).

When I try to ping or tracert either of the hosts, I get a "Destination host unreachable" error.

This has also occurred on other websites, which I cannot remember right now, and occurs with both Optus (my ISP) and OpenDNS as dns servers.

It also seems to be intermittent. Yesterday, I was able to access www.dzone.com without any issues for some time, yet today and the day before, this error was occurring.

Also, possibly unrelated, the website www.tv.com is extremely slow when loading.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the issue is?

The traceroute and ping work fine from network-tools.com, so it must be something from my end.

The IP's are resolved correctly (when I ping or tracert, the IP shown is correct according to OpenDNS's cache). However, when typing either the hostname or the IP in the address bar, I still get the error.

Thanks for reply.

Edit: Also, a ping from my router is "successful", ie: in firmware, there is an option to ping hosts, and this returns successful. All firewalls are disabled.

Answer:Unable to access certain websites: "destination host unreachable"?

Sounds like you've got a DNS issue. Those are handled by your ISP, so you're pretty much screwed if that's the problem. Here's how to check your DNS connections:

1. Open a command prompt Start -> Run... -> cmd.
If you're using Vista, the command prompt is under the Accessories Menu.

2. At the prompt, type ns lookup, and hit enter. This puts your command prompt into Domain Naming Service lookup mode, meaning you can try to resolve websites' names and ip's from their websites.

3. Type the web address of a known website, such as yahoo.com or google.com, and hit enter. You should get the name and the ip address of the site in the command prompt window.

4. Once you've found one that works every time, this will be your Control site. You know it works, so you use it to check your connection.

5. Now, use the address of one of the sites that's not working. If you do get a reply from the site, then the problem isn't with your ISP. You'll need to check your connection speeds and other network settings to test the problem further. If the websites don't resolve, contact your ISP, and tell them their DNS isn't working properly. You're going to need to get to someone fairly high up the food chain, so be ready to be really patient for that part.

Hey guys, I'm trying to setup an RMI in java, after struggling with it for a long time I noticed that it's probably not my RMI that isn't working, but that there's something wrong in my networking.
When I asked a friend outside of the city to ping me to test his ability to connect to me, he said the result was Destination Host Unreachable. After a lot of googling I got explained that this is likely a physical problem, which is weird because I have perfect internet acces. I've disabled all my firewalls, and googling this problem is nearly impossible because googling "Destination host unreachable" usually gives results of attempts to ping a local machine from another local machine, not getting pinged from outside of your network. Does anyone have any idea what this could possibly be ?
I've tried:

Hello TechSupport,

This is the first time I've had to make a post here. I've tried everything I know to fix this problem; direct connect, connected with router, firewall disabled, malware scans, and various cable unplugs for durations of time. Nothing's worked thus far, and this is what I get pinging any server every 5 mins:

Connection is wireless, ISP is locally owned and operated (nethop.net), and this has never happened prior to the last two days.

Would someone possibly ping nethop.net for about 5-6 mins to see if they're recieving massive packet loss at some point in time? That would at least t... Read more

When I try to start Windows Sidebar I get popups searching for destination.msi folder.
How do I fix this?

Answer:Windows Vista Sidebar destination.msi issue

Ok, seems like this issue appears once in a while. But you could try the following:

First, you have to open the command prompt, but with a right click "Run as Administrator".
Then navigate with the CD command to following folder: C:\progam files\windows sidebar-
Ok, now you have to type in the following:

1. regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll (after each command approve with ENTER)

2. regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll

3. regsvr32 atl.dll

4. regsvr32 sbdrop.dll

5. regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll

Done that, your sidebar should work again.

My issue is that while playing games, right now being Skyrim, my network bridge (giving internet to the xbox) shuts off, my USB webcam & mic shuts off, flash player begins to act up, and when I try to restart my computer, it says Explorer.exe is not responding because it's waiting for the logoff sound.  When I force close, it stays stuck on the "Shutting Down" screen for an infinite amount of time until I do a hard shutdown.  I just ran Spybot and cleaned up, haven't tested it since but I've done that in the past to no avail.  TDSS Killer gives me a clean bill of health, as does Avira and MalwareBytes.  This is my HijackThis log.

Hi, I would like to report a BSOD issue which has been occurring continuously since 12th Feb, 4 days ago. My laptop does not boot up properly but gives me a timed option of either trying to boot up normally or via System Recovery (default). If I select System Recovery, the laptop attempts to boot up but ends up at a blue screen and a message "The installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer" and it's back to the start. If I select normal boot up, it again attempts to boot up but ends up switching off, then switching back on again and I'm back to the start again.

Eventually, after several attempts, it does boot up sucessfully (always with the normal boot-up option, not the System Recovery option) and I'm able to use the laptop as normal. Vista provides an error report, as follows:

Got two users. Both using Outlook 2007. UserA outlook is set-up using exchange settings. UserB is set-up using POP3.

When UserA sends meeting invites, userB can receive it.
When UserA sends recurring meeting, userB can receive it.

When UserA updates recurring meeting, userB will not receive it. When checked on OWA, meeting invite is there but when opening message "HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error".

I understand that 1 solution is to reconfigure UserB outlook to use Exchange settings. But there are reasons why the configuration is on POP3.

Does any one knows what's causing recurring meeting updates sent on Outlook 2007 (using exchange settings) is not being received by Outlook 2007 (using Pop3 setting)

Thanks!

Answer:Recurring Meeting issue

Are both of the accounts managed by your internal AD server or is the POP user just using POP out of the office or a separate POP on another ISP. All POP does is download email, it has no connections to the calendard on Exchenge, all it does is download email. If you want full functionality out of the office look at RPC over HTTP.

Answer:Recurring rundll.exe issue.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Hi guys!

Hopefully someone can help me work this out. Stared getting a few BSOD crashes recently, did a bit of research and found something could be related to network drivers so installed latest version. I actually have the network adapter (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) drivers page bookmarked as since I moved to windows 10 nearly every update breaks the driver and I have to install the latest one maybe every 1-2 months.

But anyways back on topic the driver was installed and seemed to have fixed the issue but a week later and its back today same fault same BSOD so any help would be appreciated.

I have attached the log file

Cheers

James

Hello James

Welcome to TenForums

Your most recent crashes are most likely due to YAC (Yet Another Cleaner) - I would strongly recommend that you remove this and use Windows Defender and see if it stops your BSOD events.

I have seen this issue a few times and I'm trying to figure out the root cause, here is what happens:

Randomly, a users machine will not boot into Windows 7. The machine will POST as usual, appear to be going through the standard motions, then it will go to a black screen, and suddenly the HDD light will just stop completely, and will sit there for eternity until it is manually shut off.

The fix for this is booting off a Dell Windows 7 Install disk, and choosing repair my computer. Before even getting to the options it will bring up prompt saying it found errors and needs to restart, which upon restart the machine boots normally.

I've seen this on two different models, Dell Latitude E6540 and E6530 in the office, on several variations of HDD's, some SSD some 7200RPM drives. The fix always works, and I can never identify what caused the problem. The users were from all different departments, no random software or driver changes prior to this happening, seems completely random.

Anyone ever have a similar experience, and know what actually causes this or what exactly the problem is that gets repaired by the disk? Could the MBR get corrupted somehow? Nothing shows up in event viewer on any of these machines.

Also note that I cannot get to the F8 safe mode menu when the black screen issue happens, cannot do anything whatsoever aside getting to the boot menu. Playing with the BIOS does nothing as well.

Answer:Strange Recurring Boot Issue

Most of the users in my office run on E6530 or E6520s - never experienced this before.

The problem sounds more hardware related than anything else. If it were a desktop unit I would suspect power supply.

As for Event Viewer not supplying any logs, that would make sense given that the behavior occurs before the computer boots into Windows.

Hello all!!

I urgently need help on this. I spilled water on my keyboard ( that happened before too but hair dryer worked wonders at that time, it is a Sony notebook btw)
This time though, some of the keys do not work; also my notebook prints stuff on the screen on it is own. For example, I press the start button and it starts typing `eeeeeeeeeee` on the search section.

Apart from that, it seems to be ok.. Can anyone give me some advice on that? Do I need to buy replacement keyboard from ebay or do you think that the issue could be more than that??
Thank you all!!

Answer:A recurring issue-Water Damage

Well you'll need to replace the keyboard, thats near a sure thing. If it otherwise appears to work ok then you may have gotten lucky and nothing more is damaged. Generally most keyboard issues stop at the keyboard. Just make sure to get the right keyboard, sometimes its just as cheap and quicker to get a replacement keyboard from the manufacturer of the laptop or an online laptops parts retailer like Impact Computers then it is to mess around with eBay.

I first got the BSOD in April of 2010 - I "fixed" it with a reinstall of my Windows Vista system. However, the BSOD been a recurring issue (though thankfully with none of the completely-not-restartable strings of the first attack), and after this most recent one, I'd like to clean out whatever's wrong once and for all.

I ran MalwareBytes and it showed nothing, though I found and deleted a few tracking cookies with the help of my antivirus program.
Other computer quirks that could be useful to know:
- sound has also been randomly stopping, though the system can't detect it (I found a way to fix it by stopping and restarting Windows Audio)
- STOP info for the BSOD is 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xB35B2976, 0x8C957A20, 0x8C95771C)

Hi guys,I seem to have some malware/virus that won't go away. I've run Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes multiple times, but it keeps coming back. Here's some of the history/symptoms:- a file called "reader_s.exe" keeps getting regenerated in my c:\documents and settings\username folder- Malwarebytes continually finds "c:\windows\system32\#.tmp" files, where # = 2, 3, 4, etc- Malwarebytes also finds HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\xisduiiz-type keys, where that last part seems to be some random combination of 8 letters.. vlxysiyj, iowhtdno, etc.- I "solved" one of my problems where my web searches continually got re-directed by disabling a hidden device named "TDSSserv.sys" in Windows Device Manager. Looking in there now, I see a few other suspicious looking devices.. stuff like "vhqlocqq", "iabrgqgn", "gvrxyafp", etc.- When running HijackThis, I can do a "fix checked" on the ...\reader_s.exe items ad nauseam; they keep coming back, even if my scans are only 15-20 seconds apart.I'll paste my HijackThis log below. Any input/suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!JamesLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 6:32:47 PM, on 2/13/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16762)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WIN... Hey, thankyou for taking some time out to atleast read this thread. I have a problem which i have not been able to resolve and that is not being able to remove "Rootkit.Agent/Gen".

I fear that because of this my computer is:-
Much Slower
Doesn't close Popups
And Others which i am not aware of

I ran SUPERAntiSpyware which picked it up and i tried to quarantine it. I restarted my computer to save the changes only to find that it had re-appeared again. I have tried to remove it many times using the same quarantine procedure only to find the same results reappearing -
(The "Rootkit.Agent/Gen" appearing again)

I am Running Vindows Vista Business and i have only have Norton 360 as my antivirus (Excluding SUPERAntiSpyware)

Also the place in question which the virus/trojan/malware appears is:-

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIVXserv.sys

Hello, I'm new to Major Geeks and I'd just like to say thank you for all the help and support you've been willing to give to people. Taking time out of your day to help us is something a lot of people would simply pass up on, so for that thanks!

Now that we've gotten that out of the way I'd like to bring up the issue I've been having for the past month or so on my Toshiba Satellite Windows 7 64bit machine. The Malware Win 7 Anti-Spyware showed up and corrupted my Windows Security Essentials and began preventing me from accessing any program on my computer. I managed to run Firefox through administrator mode and used Malwarebytes to remove the issue. After rebooting the machine seemed fine so I continued with my typical computer usage. (Re installed the Windows Security as well)

A week or so later, after returning from the Ubuntu Linux side of my computer to run some Windows only application (dual boot machine), I found that Win 7 Anti-Spyware was rearing its ugly head yet again. I've continuously recycled the MalwareBytes resolution but by the 7th time it has gotten to be enough.

I've followed all the instructions on the Malware Removal post and have done the Vista & Windows 7 Malware Removal as well. I'll post my logs in the attachment section. I really just want to stop having this things pop up from time to time!

Answer:Win 7 Anti-Spyware 2011 Recurring Issue

Welcome to Major Geeks!

You're welcome.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:56283
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-21-1410695144-1587907457-1712039369-1000\..\Run: [] (User 'UpdatusUser')

After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix

Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.

Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:

I have an interesting problem...

Recently I have been having trouble with one of my computers. As a result I have now re-installed windows XP 3 or 4 times since the beginning of the year, with the majority of those times being the last 2 months or so.

Internet connectivity stops working. I get a message that a network cable is disconnected. I cannot use the internet.
Strange because it is a dual booting system and my Linux partition has NO TROUBLE connecting.

After I re-install Windows XP everything works fine. Internet works, I can download, surf, email... I then go through the very lengthy time consuming process of re-installing software and registering licenses so the software can work (some packages make it impossible to just use a key phrase).

Sooner or later the internet stops working in XP. This happened again recently, when I boot to linux it works so I know it is not the hardware.
I tried changing the speed and duplex setting from auto to 10 or 100 mb full or half. No change, no internet connection.
I have tried removing and re-installing the driver for the network adapter.

I removed my hard drive and I re-installed XP to a smaller hard drive and, yes, I can connect again.

I do NOT want to go through the process of re-installing software or license rights again. Besides, it may only fail again in a few days/weeks.
I would like to be able to fix this on my XP installation.

How do I ...

1. Find out what is broken and fix it?

2. Stop it from breaking agai... Read more

My simple answer for that is to clone your Windows install...when all is well. When things go wrong, just restore the clone.

The battary plugged in, not charging issue has been posted multiple times in this forum. The solution being taking the battery out, uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Coplient Control Method Battery, then restarting the laptop. I have done this over 10 times now, and it works everytime. However, this has become an everyday issue and I am looking for a permanent solution. Is there a driver update from HP or Microsoft exist which would solve this problem?  All of my laptops drivers are up to date as per HP Support assistant software, and windows 10 is also up to date.  Please let me know if there is a better solution. Thank you,Amitava

I'm not sure if this issue is dangerous or just a glitch, but every now and then, once my computer comes out of a screensaver, the desktop tries to refresh, and all the icons turn into the blank white icons you see with a file that's not assigned a program to open with. This has been fixed before by running the screensaver again. Several time though, this doesn't work, and the problem persists with almost all icons. Rebooting doesn't have an effect. The problem seems to eventually repair itself but I wanted to see if there was an easy fix and whether or not I should be worried about it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who puts forth advice.

I have a very annoying problem with my T460p: When suspending the laptop and turning it on again, the trackpad and touchpad devices stop working entirely (no response at all). The problem cannot be fixed by rebooting the machine and can only be resolved by completely powering down the laptop, removing the battery and restarting it afterwards. Symptoms: * During  boot, a message "PS/2 mouse not detected" shows up.* The Windows device manager shows the synaptics touchpad as not functioning.* The problem occurs both under Windows and Linux (Ubuntu 16.04) I am running the latest BIOS version and have updated all drivers on the machine. I have also checked all BIOS settings. Lenovo already replaced the laptop twice, but the problem persists, hence I conclude that it's either a problem in all of the synaptics components or related to something else. I have found many similar bug reports in this forum and elsewhere, not only for the T460p but also other models like the T440 series, hence this is not an isolated case. Please bring this problem to the attention of the support staff, as this is something that is completely unacceptable for a laptop in this price range (especially since everything else is working perfectly). The laptop has the following configuration btw: * i7 6600HQ processor* 20 GB Ram (4 GB on-board + 16 GB extra RAM)* 2 TB HDD + 512 GB SSD via M.2 slot* Otherwise standard configuration Thanks for your help!

I was really excited at first to buy this brand new HP Pavilion 23 AiO. I have owned and administrated a lot of computers in my life. I love my laptop for personal use, and i thought that upgrading our home PC to this All-in-One was going to be great investment. It removes the need for both a tower and bulk montior, by combining the two into a nice flatscreen stand alone featuring the "tower" built in.  Over the time of owning it,  It has gone from the family computer to just my wifes because at first i thought i our teenagers were the ones at fault for it having so many problems. It is now on its 3rd HDD, and 2nd set of RAM. It got its new RAM and final HDD just last week, and is already returning to its random spuratic crashing and boot failures. It lasted a while in the beginng never having any problems like this, but once it started that very first time they have more common and frequent.  Sometimes the computer will out of no where get a BSOD and state the computer has ran into an error and that it is collecting things and going to restart. Other times your using it and everything would be fine, turn around for one second to work on something else and spin the chair back and your now looking at a boot error stating "No Boot Disk has been Detected" and messages in that nature, always pointing to the HDD. Well last week i gave it a 3rd BRAND NEW HDD because the 2nd HDD stated that it had "Eminent Failure" along with a new stick of RAM because it wo... Read more

There seems to be this recurring issue with people that call me for support...

They often cannot click certain buttons in web based email. (this is where they first notice it but it most likely is not limited to just webmail).

i.e. the delete button doesnt work but some other buttons do.

The webmail the use typically runs off some sort of java. Such as yahoo.com webmail.
They sometimes cannot click reply, or maybe the forward button. Sometimes they cannot type into the body of a new message. It really could be ANY button or field that ends up broken, sometimes more than one at a time.

Ive tried completely clearing out IE cache, cookies, plugins, resetting defaults in IE.
Rip/reinstall Java
regsvr32 jscript.dll
disabling all 3rd party apps/services

Sometimes one or more of these steps works, other times they dont. What I would like to know is if there is some "better" way to fix these issues. Anyone run into this and know a good way to 'reset' things without significant things like windows reload or system restore?

Hello,

Recently I have been experiencing recurring internet connectivity issues. Roughly every 30 minutes, my laptop will report limited connectivity to my home's wireless network and I will lose internet access. Disconnecting and reconnecting to the wireless network will allow me to temporarily regain internet access (up until my computer inevitably loses its internet connection again due to the limited connectivity issue). This issue appeared suddenly, but I suspect it might be due to a virus of some kind (as I have neither installed any software recently nor have I tampered with my computer's internet settings). I also believe the wireless network is fully functional as I am able to access internet at all times using other computers and wifi devices (even when my laptop is reporting limited connectivity). I ran a Norton 360 Full System Scan and a Malwarebytes Anti-malware scan but to no avail.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Recurring Limited Access Wireless Connectivity Issue

Try to set static IP and check if the issues exists after. Try also disabling power managment of Wifi card in Device manager, I doubt that is the issue but can't  do no harm.

I've had this issue a few times now, but every time before, the Lenovo System Update tool for the Soundmax Driver would work to reinstall the audio driver, with that taken down, I am now unable to install the sound driver. This time around after having to hard restart because my computer wouldn't come out of standby, my computer told me that my soundmax drivers were corrupted. Whenever I attempt an install, it says, "The audio driver files do not support your current hardware." System Restore also fails to do anything. The files are the Lenovo audio files for my system. Which is an X61 tablet running XP SP3. This issue is very frustrating in its recurrence. I do not want to have to wipe my harddrive and start fresh if I can help it, but I cannot get the audio driver to reinstall. Moderator note: Type added to subject line for clarity. It´ll help us, to help you.   Message Edited by Agotthelf on 26-05-2009 09:12 AM

We have multiple conference rooms with resources in active directory so we can schedule meetings in the conference rooms.

Recently, I'm not sure for how long, whenever someone creates a recurring event with no end date when you go into the event on the conference room calender it only shows recurring for 4-6 months.

Answer:Recurring events in outlook stop recurring

So when I create the event the resource only accepts the invitation through about 5 months.

Joining a workgroup and rejoining the domain fixes it, but this has been going on too long and am tired of that temporary solution. Any ideas on what is happening on the domain controller, or pc, that is causing this?
It happens randomly on all my images, all hardware models of pcs, 32 and 64 bit. Running Powershell command 'Test-ComputerSecureChannel on working machines returns 'True.'

Running the command on pcs with the 'trust relationship' error returns 'Logon failure. unknown user name or password.'
The pcs actually still show 'ourdomain.net' in system properties. So, basically, they appear to still be 'joined' but the secure channel returns broken.
Again, I know joining to a workgroup and back to the domain fixes it, but temporarily. the issue can recur on the same machine. I'd like to hear info about a lasting, actual solution. and the reason this happens, if anyone can help :)
Anything to look for on the domain controller? on the pcs? I'd like an actual solution to this issue!

Thanks in advance!

Hi-

This is a painful issue because things like chrome which are installed as per user do not work and nothing profile-wise can be saved on a temp profile.

This is the second time it has happened (the first time I created a new profile as suggested). However it has happened again barely 2-3 weeks after creating this new profile. I do not want to just create another new profile because I cannot just keep creating new ones when one corrupts. The installation of windows is pretty fresh, it's barely a month old.

Tried restarting (lots), running without startup services (msconfig) and running in safe mode but the issue still occurs.

Relevant Microsoft articles:

I have tried this and it did not work.

Fix a corrupted user profile

This is just telling you to create a new profile and copy the settings across which I do not want to have to do every month...

I have done my fair share of googline but have only found results leading to creating a new profile...

Any help at all would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi all,

I've been losing my internet connection with a very frustrating frequency over the past couple of days, resulting in a "limited or no Connectivity" message appearing in the taskbar.

This is something that I'm used to having happen on occasion without any major headaches, as unplugging the router for a moment has (and still does) always solve the problem. However, over the past few days it's been coming up way too often (3 ties so far today). Also, the router's in my roomates bedroom, and I can't very well be knocking on the door to get it rebooted when this occurs at 5a.m.

The other computers connected to the router aren't experiencing any problems, so I assume the root cause must be on my PC (a somewhat aged Dell Inspiron 1200 lappy running XP SP2). I was recently subject to a Vundo infection, which (I'm almost 100% certain) is now gone, and I think the problem may be related to the disinfection. Unfortunately, registry-rebuilding utilities have been of no assistance to me (I've tried both "WinsockXPFix" and the utility built into SuperAnti Spyware). I'm running Outpost as my software Firewall.

Any ideas how I might solve this problem or at least get it back to the point where it only happens once in a blue moon?

Answer:Recurring "Limited or No Connectivity" Issue

Hi Apmahd and welcome to MGs.

Here are a couple of links to the Malware forum that I suggest you take a look at. (Almost 100% certain a malware problem has been fixed still leaves that small chance that it is still there.)

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=74501

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

I'm assuming you are using a wireless connection as you don't state the type being used.
Have there been any environmental changes in the locations of the router or your laptop? (More objects in between the laptop and router, new electrical devices, cordless phones, etc.)
Have you tried updating drivers for your adapter?
Checked power settings for the adapter that might have been changed so it goes into a power save mode?
Here's a link for some troubleshooting for a wireless connection -

Hope this helps.

Hi nathan30

Did this just recently start?

Is this a new device or new install?

Is your computer connected wirelessly and is the network set to private? (not public).

Could you fill out system specs please.

Hi,

I'm not sure what it might be but one day I noticed that about a dozen of websites I open regularly became unavailable. "The connection has timed out."

nslookup works OK and I get IP address resolved, I also tried tracert, it goes through 5-10 hops and then times out. I can still open some web sites but not all of them. I can open all web sites via online proxy so they are all up and running.

I have ADSL modem connected to my laptop, no routers, the modem doesn't have any static routing tables, so as far as I understand it, the list of hosts I see in tracert output depends on my ISP router.

The ISP is able to open all "problem" web sites on their side, but I can't get any help from them as they say that since tracert goes beyond their network it's not their problem and it's my computer actually blocking some of web sites.

I'm not aware of any software on my laptop which could possibly do that as well as I don't have any routing/proxy programs installed, so it seems that it might be a virus or some malicious software.

So what do I do? Try to find a virus or can it be a system issue?

Answer:some web sites became unreachable

Hi I'm new to this site but I'd like to help you.

Try downloading a alternate browser (I reccomend Google Chrome). This will make sure the problem isn't in your browser at least. Also can you ping any of those sites you can't get to?

Is there a workaround, I tried to restore to a date last week, but it didn't fix the problem.

Problem: cannot access godaddy.com. All 4 computers on my home network cannot access godaddy.com. I do not get porn I just time out.

What I've done so far:
numerous anti-spyware programs have been run including spybotS&D and HijackThis (both before I found your forums), AdwareSE.
called both godaddy.com and verizon.net (my provider) with no luck, both say everything is fine on their end.

I have followed the FAQ with two problems:

-I mistakenly exited out of Counterspy without the log.
-Bitdefender crashed just as it was going to show the "detected problems" Explorer was the named culprit. I do remember mostly trojans found in email (trash box, Eudora Pro) that were deleted.

I do have the other 4 log files. I hope you can help, I have a website at godaddy.com that needs attending to.

We started experiencing an issue with some customers unable to browse out to the internet.  Manually setting their proxy server to the proxy.server.com address works, but not when we use the http:\\proxy.pac. In the auto configuration script area
on a working machine entering the http:\\proxy.pac in the address bar prompts for you to download/open the pac.  On the non working machine it ALSO cant reach the destination.  If *I* log on to the machine it works as intended.  We are
using preferences to push these settings and over 22,000 machines are working correctly.  But recently a number of people have started to experience this issue, and we are perplexed.  thoughts?

Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble since last week. I have sweethosting.com hosting my web site and my laptop can't seem to connect to the web site anymore. Everytime I try, I get an error msg: Gateway time out--- Server Unreachable.. sometimes when I repair the wireless connection I can get access, but sometimes I can't.

I've tried scanning with with Nortons antivirus and scanned with spybot and also with Adware. I'm lost in the dark right now. My Desk top computer can access the web site though.

Can someone help me please.

Answer:Error msg: server unreachable

This is what I got when I just tried that site;

"This page is used to test the proper operation of the Apache HTTP server after it has been installed. If you can read this page, it means that the Apache HTTP server installed at this site is working properly.
If you are a member of the general public:

The fact that you are seeing this page indicates that the website you just visited is either experiencing problems, or is undergoing routine maintenance."

Checking the URL with a server identification tool produced the information that it is online, but returns a "HTTP 1.0 403 Forbidden", which seems to confirm the information above.

The IP address for that domain is 69.42.129.18. Sometimes, using the IP address instead of the URL works better, although I don't expect it will make much difference in this particular case.

DDS sees McAfee, so so far so good, but it reports it as Disabled so you might like to check if it is in fact active.

I've been trying to connect a newly aquired machine to my network with no luck what-so-ever. Initially I installed Windows XP professional with SP2 onto the machine only to be hit with the infamous "Limited or no connectivity" issue. Upon researching this error, I came across various solutions including the Microsoft SP2 Patch KB884020 with no luck. I still cannot get this machine to connect to the network. Everything I've tried is listed below.

Replaced the Hub twice
Tried with no Service packs, and with 1 seperately, and service packs 1 and 2
I've tried the winsock XP fix after reading it may be a corrupt IP table
I've run a registry fix i found on some forums (i have a feeling thats the same as the winsock XP fix though)
I've flushed out my DNS
I've tried 3 different network adapters, an nForce Motherboard mounted one. a Realtek one, and a Sitecom one
Manually assigned an IP address in the range which DHCP would assign

All of the above has failed. It is only this machine which fails. I've got numerous other machines on my network which are all recieving dynamic IPs from DHCP perfectly every time yet this PC hasn't recieved an IP once.

I read that if you can ping the computer's local IP, and ping its loopback address 127.0.0.1 successfully, it's not a corrupt IP table, but bad network drivers. However having tried 3 different network adapters with CD drivers from purchase, and drivers obtained on the inter... Read more

Instead of trying everything possible you should approach this step by step. Use a static IP when testing at all times.

I can get to any website I try except Windows update.

I have moved the HDD to another PC and run MS Security Essentials, BitDefender & F-Secure scans. Then back to its own case where I ran Anti-Malware & SuperAntiSpyware. HijackThis also ran but still no Windows Update.

I have tried running IE in Safe mode - same problem. I did a repair install of XP - problem persists. I ran a batch file to delete the update database and reregister DLLs. Reinstalled IE 8. Still unable to reach Windows update in IE or FireFox. WinsockXPfix didn't help and an nslookup of windowsupdate.microsoft.com reveals

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.0.1: Timed out
*** Default servers are not available

All other websites on this PC come up fine, as does Windowsupdate on another PC on the same LAN. My Hosts. file contains just
127.0.0.1 localhost

My friend took his computer to Best Buy who ran the restore on it with his main files on a second drive. The drive is now ganked, but I'm working to recover the files if possible.

In Disk Management (XP Pro), I can see that there's a 37GB volume with 20Gb free (looks like his missing files). There's a second volume on the disk that's only 47 MB and it's Active (so I can access it, but there's nothing to speak of there).

The point is that if I click on the 37Gb volume, I can't seem to do anything with it. The only menu option available when I right click it is "Help". If I click the disk itself, I have the option to convert to a dynamic disk, but I don't want to do that without knowing what will happen to the data on there.

When I dig through the properties, I can see data on the 47MB disk, but not the 37 GB. Does anyone know what to do with this!!!?

Hi,

I am using an old laptop as a server for Plex and Subsonic, I login to it via RDP. Often the plex server becomes unreachable. Also at times I can't login via RDP for a few minutes with an error that the host is unreachable, this issue sorts itself after a few minutes and I can then log in again.

I'm wondering could this be due to hard disk spin down as all other power setting are set to stay awake.

This is on a Windows 7 setup, thanks.

Answer:Laptop Server Becomes Unreachable

Apparently this is not due to hard disk spin down as I have set it to never spin down and still experiencing problems.

Any one with any ideas on why I may be having these issues please let me know your thoughts.

Hi all, new guy here with weird problem. I can not access www.crutchfield.com website. Everytime I try I get timeout (this applies to all machines on my network). However when I bypass the router and hook up directly to the modem I can get the website. Here's what I did so far:

My Internet connection is working fine (called Comcast and it was reset from their side).
I called Crutchfield and they confirmed their website is up (Comcast guy accessed it too).
I reset my modem and router.
I reset the router to factory defaults.
I reinstalled the router firmware.
I doublechecked that access control is disabled on the router, and no entries in web filter

I am stumped, can somebody help? Thanks.

I am running:
Toshiba - DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem - PCX2600
D-Link DGL-4300 router
Windows 7 RC x64
All connections Cat6 cable

Hi,

Since half a year I'm using a simple Sweex RPO001 router for my homenetwork to which 3 computers are connected. Untill last week I haven't encountered any major difficulties. Three days ago my daughter's computers couldn't detect a connection to the internet althought her MSN was normally working. The other computers were normally functioning. At first I simply tried to solve the problem by disconnecting and rebooting both my modem en router. In the past this proved sufficiently to solve similar problems. The result was that none of the computers were able to gain access to the internet. I logged into the router to check it's status and found out that the router was unable to reach the gateway. Repeatedly refreshing, resetting and reconfiguring the router with the wizard didn't have any effect. When I directly connect a computer with the modem it directly detects the LAN of my provider. I have surfed the internet to find a solution but till now I haven't been succesfull. I hope someone has a helpful suggestion

Answer:Unreachable gateway Sweex router

I already solved the problem myself. Probably in one way or the other the firmware got damaged because after replacing the firmware with a downloaded copy and resetting en reconfiguring the router the problem was gone.
