make an application web based

Question: make an application web based

I have a neat idea that I would like to try out. Caution this is going to get nerdy not just geeky. I play D&D and my group uses a program that has our characters on it. It's a very old program made for Win 95 but I have made it work in everything from Linux to Vista.

I want to find a way to put the program online so my group can all edit their characters instead of doing it last minute before we play. I have a web server and hosting so thats no issue. My first thought is to use a VPN or terminal services but is there a way to just host the application by it's self? What I would like is something as non technical as having a desktop icon they can just click and it opens the program as if it's local.

Preferred Solution: make an application web based

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: make an application web based

Sure, just rewrite it in some language your web server can run and have it save all its data in an appropriate database accessible to the web server.

If you're talking about just putting the .exe on your website, it doesn't really work that way. By default, Windows won't run programs from the internet, and the web server won't allow you to write data to it. Depending on how the app works, you may be able to give each person a copy and configure it to save its data remotely in a central location. It might be possible to do something like Sysinternals Live, but I doubt you'd be able to do with just regular hosted webspace. That also doesn't take into account the saving/sharing of data, just the remote access to the .exe.

Can somebody explain to me what a LAN Based Application is? I've tried to google it but cannot find nothing. I would imagine its an application that only operates within a LAN, so i.e an office, so it wont be able to communicate to another office?

Thanks

Answer:LAN Based Application

It is an application that runs only on a LAN (Local Area Network) without internet access.

The LAN could be small, 3 - 4 clients; or large with over 500 clients in multiple buildings.
I have worked in both situations and used propriatary applications that ran on the LAN, but were not designed to be accessed from the internet.

Video Conferencing, Remote Access Control, Gaming Servers, all started as LAN applications.

This is the best info I could find and it isn't much.

I'm using an application that uses IE as the internal browser, I downloaded Adblockplus, Adfender, Admuncher(?), and others but none of them works-- AT ALL.

I checked and they're all enabled, I restarted everything, etc. Which ad blocker can you recommend for me?

I'm in Peru so that might? be relevant :/

PS. I hate IE.

I posted in this forum as I feel this is security related. Mods move if need be.

I'm looking for a web based (preferably PHP) change log program. It should do the following:

1. Be simple!
2. Allow people to enter descriptions of basic system changes
3. Changes should have categories by systems and can be filtered as such.
4. Time stamp the actions and have a "master display" where all changes can be viewed
5. LDAP authentication would be nice.

Does such a thing exist? My goggling has failed due to "change log" being such a popular term.

Bumpage. I could use something similar.

Greeting,

I'm trying to run an application, named Da51, STK, and POS, which are written in MS-DOS based since 20 years ago.

Now here's the thing, I tried to right-click on the .exe file.

I execute command.com, I went to that folder, and manually type in the command myself.

A user has resized a window within a hosted web application to the point where it is exactly OK/too small, meaning it flickers back and forth between having scroll bars and not. While it is in this state, it essentially freezes out any other commands in the window or ability to resize it. Are there any ways to interupt this, delete application window size preferences or other ideas? I know this is data that is stored locally as I can execute the same functions on another PC sucessfully. This is viewing of a web hosted PC based medical application by a standard PC running Windows 7, IE9. Is there a way to delete user preferences for the application so it will default to orginal window sizing?

Thanks!

Answer:Re-Sizing of Web Based Application Windows

As a workaround, you could try a free program I use myself to automatically resize your different applications. I know how annoying this can be, in my case, especially for Internet Explorer.

For the pharmacy I have made an application to support a drug preparation. This application is used in public pharmacies as well as in hospitals and industry.
This is a web-based application. So the installation has been done on the server with a configuration within IIS.
The clients start the application in InternetExplorer.
Why InternetExplorer? Because the client's preparation protocols, raw materials need to be weighed and labels must be printed. Hereby I use self-programmed ActiveX controls. And other browsers do not support ActiveX controls.
The web-based application is generally found to be good.
As Edge is increasingly "pushing", InternetExplorer seems to be the cornerstone, as well as the application described above.
My questions are now:
- How long are web-based applications still supported?
- Will Edge support ActiveX controls in the future?
- Is there an alternative?
I would appreciate if there were sound answers to the above questions.
Sincerely,
Wim

I have a web based application and want it to port it on Windows Vista . What are the procedures I must follow to check for its compliance on safe deployment on Vista?

Answer:Web Based Application Compliance Testing

Let's see. I have no clue, but if I think about it, it must be:
Does your web server software work properly in Vista?
Which flavor of Vista do you plan on using?
Do you have the hardware to support it?
Have you checked into any of the documentation?
If you have checked into the documentation, promptly ignore it, set up your own test box, and see how things shake out. If what you find out on your own correlates with the documentation, then you might start to have some confidence.

That's where I would start if it were me. Essentially, a web service comes down to the web-server software, some sort of a middle tier, and I would imagine some sort of database. Are they compatible with Vista?

Is there any type of program that can manage web based email, but pull all old email from an outlook 2003 PST file?

if would be great if it would also write to that same PST file thus perserving old mail, and writting new mail in a format that outlook would accept.

I have many, many different email boxes all inside outlook, and it would save me so much time if I could access them from the web instead of having to remote desktop into my server. The problem is, most computers I work at don't have remote desktop enabled, or simply dont support it.

So being able to access all my email from the web would be so much better. Does anyone know of any program that will do this. (I'd prefer something free, but if it will do what I want I don't mind paying for it.)

Answer:way to make an outlook file web based?

Easy, just connect to an IMAP server (you may have one already) with Outlook, create folders on the IMAP server, and move all your existing email into those.

Hi, I want to assign a custom icon to every file type no matter what the associated app is. I can change individual default icons, but they get overwritten by the application icon. Is it possible to do this :

And if so, how ? (I want to keep the file associations: .css and .txt are still getting open by Sublime, .ini by WordPad and so on ...)

Hi,

Could anyone tell me which of the many languages I should/could use to develop a browser based application meant to support database functions (store/retreival to local disk of user inputs) and that could read and send data off the host PC serial port. I'm not looking for client/server stuff, just a plain browser based application running on a local machine for accessing its local serial port and sending/storing data to or from it. I could do it using WinAPI or MFC but I would prefer to have the familiar web based application instead.

I'm not familiar with ASP.NET, PHP, XML, SQL etc... so I wonder if any of them could dot the job ??

Thanks in advance.

Theoretically speaking, damage same as trusted group. Low restricted is basically trusted group in default settings (Automatic mode). Application control is for interactive mode, in which the prompts gets issued, then Low restricted is useful as much as the user knows.

Greetings oh Masters of everything!

I have a Home PC running Windows XP, using PCGuard Anti-Virus (provided by my ISP/Broadband Cable provider, Virgin Media). The Anti-Virus software detected a virus that it identifies as "W32/Sinowal-based!Maximus", but it cannot disinfect it.

I have done some basic panicky attempts at getting rid of it (running scans, downloading other scan software, reading as many help pages as I could find, attempting to download Microsoft "Malicious Software Removal Tool" and other Microsoft Updates), but this virus seems to be rather more clever than I.

It has disabled the "Automatic Updates" function. It has infected files in my Temporary Internet Files" folder and ".dll" files...

Hi All,

Im trying to install AT&T application which is a profile based application. Means it installs in the user profile directly instead of other location.

My Problem is user dont have the admin access, either i need to use my ID or administrator ID. Which installs application into Appdata\Local folder which wont be accessible by other users.
How to i enable the application for other users as well without providing admin access

Answer:Installing profile based application in other users folder

What ATT app is this? If it's for accessing the internet then that doesn't require any installed program, just plug in the wire or access wireless signal via icon in SYstem Tray. Any installed program beyond this for this purpose is bloatware.

But once we know what the program is for exactly we can help you better.

HI There,

I'm looking for a simple windows service that I can schedule to run that will do the following:

1.  Search a .log file for a given phrase - "fail" for example.
2.  If this is found, send an email and alert (screen popup) to the administrators.

I may need to resort to a batch file do this, but I hope was hoping something already existed and I could have this up and running very quickly.

Please let me know if you know of anything that fits the bill.

Thanks.

Answer:Looking for an application that searches in a file and emails based on finding

This is a simple batch file if you have an e-mailer that lets you send from the command line.  I haven't tried this in ages on Windows, so I don't know which one(s) might be available.

You should take a look at the post, How to create a command-line toolkit for Windows, on these very forums, paying special attention to the "grep" command that's part of UnixUtils.  Grep allows you to do the kind of search for text content you're seeking with ease.  You can then either query the status code returned after the command or redirect the output of the command to a file, and check that its size is not 0 bytes, to determine whether it found what you're looking for.  A simple 'if' construction afterward to trigger the e-mail to be sent and you're done.

You may prefer to go with installing Cygwin rather than the UnixUtils if you want something more current and want to have a more extensive set of Unix commands available to you under Windows.

I have a web-based application that when I attempt to perform a function, brings up the IE11 context menu. The application's menu also appears (which is what I want), but in order to proceed with my task, I have to kill the IE menu via Task Manager.

This seems like it would be a common task in Access but I can't find any reference to it.

I have a combo box with three choices, Kamazaoo, Grand Rapids, and Traverse City. The field name is location. The location is entered only once but there is no limit to the amount of records that can be added. When one record is finished Access defaults to the previous location and starts a new record.

I know how to do a make table query but can I do a make table query based on the fields value? For instance if the entry person is finished entering data for Kalamazoo a button could be pushed that would make a Kalamazoo table.

G'morning all,

I have VU 64-bit with 4GB of RAM.

Is there anything I can do on the software side to make applications think I have less than 4GB of RAM? I'm thinking of Empire at War: Forces of Corruption and Act of War: High Treason, both of which will not run with 4GB of RAM. I know I could go into the BIOS and make the computer think I only have 3GB, but that rather defeats the purpose of having 4GB.

I poked around with the MS Application Compatibility Toolkit v5 but I didn't see anything that looked useful. Any chance I'm wrong?

Thank you!

Hi, I'm an IT admin at a school. The school has two layers of Internet filtering. The first layer of Internet filtering is the firewall. But it doesn't get everything, so the Internet service provider implemented Open DNS to do DNS filtering of web queries also. The problem is I also use Open DNS on my home network to stop my kids from browsing bad websites. The way Open DNS works is I need to run a client software that updates Open DNS with what my home IP address is. I point my DNS queries to Open DNS. Open DNS checks the source IP and then filters based on my settings knowing who I am from what that utility tells them my home IP address is. Well, I accidently left the Open DNS app open a few times going to the school, so the DNS queries have then used the Internet filters I have setup on my personal Open DNS instead of the ISP's settings because my PC beat the ISP's PC to the punch of updating the OpenDNS settings. Once one PC updates, the other one will show the IP address is taken. So, I'm wondering is there an app out there that I could schedule the OpenDNS updater to only run during certain hours? I know about the Windows scheduler. But I think that's only going to tell it to launch once. Once it's running, if I hibernate my PC and start it back up at school, it's not going to just automatically shut the app down because it's now in a block of time it shouldn't be running.

Answer:How do I make sure an application only runs during certain h

You can do multiple instances of Windows Scheduler to do the same job at different times. Windows Scheduler can also wake your computer up to execute a scheduled job.CoolGuy

Right click at Start button > Control Panel > top right, click View by : select either small or large > select Auto Play > scroll down to CDs heading > at Audio CD, click the pointer and select Play audio CD (Windows media Player) > click Save when done.

*** When you are at Auto Play, check out other options and see if you can use one of them.

I posted here just over a week ago because I was trying to install WMP on my PC; thanks to you guys I disovered that it was already installed, even though there was no icon on the desktop, start menu or application bar.

Anyway, I'm now trying to set it as the default application for opening music CDs. The problem is that it is not listed in the default programs, and I cannot seem to get it included on the list. I know how to associate programs with different file types, but that's not really what I want; I'd like WMP to launch automatically when I insert a CD.

All help greatly appreciated

Hi, i've recently been doing work with an internet cafe and we need a solution for re-imaging. I have an image created with ghost but I have no software to use to distribute it and the client PC's only have CD-R/RW and the image is 4.3GB.

I tried to use Ghost recovery disk to map the network drive where I have the image but the recovery disk didn't couldn't detect my network card (I'm guessing it didn't support the specific NIC of the client PC's)
I need a software solution that will let me re-image any computer from a centralized location (server) over the network. We have about 40-50 client PC's. So far we have been doing manual installs (The entire server crashed and took all the old software with it so we're starting from scratch)

If anyone could help, we could open this business a lot sooner than expected with software that can do this!

Thanks

Answer:Need: Server-based re-imaging application (Remotely Re-image clients from server)

A free solution would clonezilla or even RIS or WDS
EDIT: You also might want to look into Steady State

So, a little context:
We have five public gaming computers wich is free to use. The computers are running a 120 GB SSD (C:) with windows 10 and a 2 TB HDD (D:) wich is primaly used for installing games. They are set up with noe administrator user and a guest user wich is used for the "public".

Now to the problem:
We have all the Gaming library's installed (steam, origin, battle.net .....) wich people can log inn to and install games. We have set the default installation path to D: on all applitacions, but that doesn't stop people from installing stuff on the C: drive. This means that in a month time the C: drive is full, and we need to spend a lot of time uninstalling all the stuff form the C: drive.

The Question:
The best way of dealing with this (wich i can come up with) would be to set a form of password protection on the C: drive that prevent users form installing stuff on the C: drive. I have been looking a lot for a solution, but not a solution wich would work in this senario. I want the need for a password ONLY when someone try to install something on he C: drive. Windows and programs sould still be able to make changes without disturbing the user.

Is this something that is possible, or even exists? Would realy appreciate an anwser to this problem, or even a solutin.

Answer:Make a drive ask for password before installing an application?

Welcome to the forum.

I don't believe this is possible. Only an admin level account can install software and by design this is the highest level user account in the system. Attempting to limit such an account is an exercise in futility. All admin level accounts are equal. Anything setting or change made by one admin user can be reversed or changed by another admin user. This is by design.

Any solution would rely on the ignorance of the users, not of any password but the ability to do some relatively basic things.

A hardware based solution would be conceivable but I have never heard of such.

I have a pivoting monitor (in other words it can turn sideways) and it's a pain to go Desktop > Screen Resolution > Portrait/Landscape > Ok > Keep Changes every time I want to switch the orientation to do something better optimized for the alternative position. Whether it can grant me auto-rotate or fix it to a hotkey or something, I don't care. I'm running Windows 8.1.

Answer:Does anyone know of an application that will make it easy to rotate my screen?

Hello Candentia,

You can easily rotate the screen by doing ctrl + alt + the arrow key you want to rotate it.

As an administrative user, I installed an application. The application runs fine for that user, but is not available to the standard user that will actually use it. It does not appear on the start screen, and typing its name while at the start screen finds no application with that name. How can I make this and other applications available to standard users other than the user that installed it? And what would best practice be for future application installation?http://my.opera.com/wpost/

Answer:Make Installed application available to Win 8 standard user

While you are in the user account, go to the location of the program, ususally in C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86)\Program folder and right-click the executable. Click Attach (pin) to the Start menu. Now it should appear on the Start menu. CoolGuy

Answer:how make audio render to hdmi for application

This basic question comes up on here (and other forums) occasionally. You can only have one "default" playback device, either the HDMI or the "Speakers" (your PC sound card). I've never seen anything posted about a way to get around that.

I'm looking for a note maker which helps to make a note in a window regardless of its location. I used to use a note taker in XP which takes notes wherever you wanted it to. And it's not like MSOneNote, it'll store the notes somewhere in it's DB in profile folder but open the notes whenever we opened particular folder or window or application. Can anyone suggest me similar one. I tried in-built stick notes but it stays on desktop.

Answer:How do I make notes for every application setup or installers?

What note taking program did you use on XP? There's a good chance it will work with Win 7.

Her's one I found that sounds like it does what you want. It has the ability to attach itself to an application or folder and appear only when that application or folder is active.

Are there any other requirements that I have to follow not to be considered "a program from Unknown Publisher" ?

Hello.
I had no problem to run 2 applications at the same time on games like Borderlands 2, using the SplitTool from Split Play.
I have no problem run 2 game windows in 1 screen of almost any game i have tried so far.
I will explain how for those who might need this.

1.Locate the game exe in your Program Files or where you have it installed.
2.Simply hold right click on the Game exe and move the mouse. A window will pop-up. Select ''Create Shortcuts Here'' .
3.Make 2 Shortcuts this way and Rename them (for example Player 1 and Player 2).
4.Right click the Player 1 Shortcut and go to Properties. On Target paste this command at the end of what is already there: '' -AlwaysFocus''
(With the Space at the beginning of command and Without the '' ).
5.Right click the Player 2 Shortcut and go to Properties. On Target paste this command at the end of what is already there: '' -AlwaysFocus -ControllerOffset=1 -SaveDataId=2''
(With the Space at the beginning of command and Without the '' ).
6.Open Player 1 and Player 2 as administrators and make sure they are not on full screen. You should be able to run both and make a Lan-game on 1 PC screen.
7.If you are going to use gamepads and game supports gamepads then make sure you only use player's 1 gamepad on Player 1 Screen without touching 2nd gamepad. Then click with mouse on 2nd Player Screen to make it active and use only the 2nd Player gamepad. That s... Read more

There are file types, and even groups of filetypes. Application's have enough understanding of what files they can open, but the OS is a little ignorant...

If I use 'Open With' on a text file, and look at other options, currently it's like this (AFTER resizing using the AMAZING ResizeEnable : )

From MSDN: How to Exclude an Application from the Open With Dialog Box for Unassociated File Types

Step 2:
The second way to prevent an application from appearing in the Open with dialog box is to use the SupportedTypes subkey to explicitly list the extensions of file types that the application can open. This prevents the application from appearing in the Open with dialog box for file types that it cannot open. It also causes the application to appear in the Recommended Programs list as discussed previously.
This method is particularly useful if an application can save a file as a certain file type but cannot open that file type. An application should also set the FOS_DONTADDTORECENT flag through IFileDialog::SetOptions when calling the Save dialog box. This keeps the item from being added to the Recent or Frequent portions of a Jump List. It also blocks the application from being tracked under OpenWithList.
Each supported extension is added as an entry under the SupportedTypes subkey as shown in the following example. The entries are of type REG_SZ or REG_NULL, with no associated values.

When I upgrade an application, I often lose all the Jumplist items that I manually set for it (in the taskbar).

I have "Store and display recently opened items in the Start Menu and the taskbar" disabled. These Jumplist items were all manually added to taskbar shortcuts.

This regularly happens with shortcuts that were created by installers.

To (try to) be clever, I manually created shortcuts directly to the executables, and added those manually-created shortcuts to the taskbar. Then I added Jumplist items to each shortcut. Unfortunately, this does not help, and even with this technique, I still lose every Jumplist item I added when I update the application.

The worst offender, by far, is LibreOffice. Every time I have to update LibreOffice, I lose every Jumplist item I had manually added to the taskbar shortcuts for each LibreOffice application. This happens when I use shortcuts created by the LibreOffice installer and with manually created shortcuts. It's a PITA to recreate every Jumplist for every LibreOffice application every time they have an update.

Is there a trick to maintain Jumplist items when an application is upgraded?

Hey there...OK...I will be building a computer system for my sister someday (they were retarded and bought themselves an HP instead of haviing me build a better one for cheaper)...I was wondering if there was a way to make my own Recovery/Application CD set like what's included with Dell, HP, Compaq, etc...

Now they work by inserting the 1st CD into the cd-rom and then follow instructions and it installs a fresh OS which has preset tweaks and has the company's logo and stuff on the system properties and stuff...

and then you insert the Application CD(s) and it automatically installs programs that are on the cd

I was wondering if there was a way to do that for them so I don't have to always come over to their house and reinstall their OS and all their applications everytime the OS needs to be reinstalled

Is their a way to make my own System/Application Recovery CD's??? I'd have the System one set up the OS with pre tweaked settings and the Application one set up all the apps all at once like the other recovery cd's do

So is there a way to do this??? THANX
C'YA

You should take a trip to your local computer store and check out Norton Ghost. It will do exactly what you want.

In Windows 7, the input method is application-specific, i.e., when you change the input method in one application, it doesn't affect other applications. However, in Windows 8 this seems to be changed: the input method is system-wide.

The problem is: I need to use Chinese input (either the embedded Windows Chinese input, or the one from Google, I prefer to use the later), which seems to only use US keyboard layout. However, I am using Finnish layout, so the locations of symbol keys are different. I need to frequently switch the input methods, which is really annoying. I really miss the one in Windows 7: the Chinese input was only effective for the application I needed to type Chinese

for windows 10 lumia please bring back the windows music player the groove is not user friendly

Answer:Why is it when we make suggestions about the disadvantages of an application it takes ages to fix?

Software development takes time. They have to program, test, debug, etc. It can be a process to get it right.
But more to the point of your specific example, Microsoft has committed to Groove as their current and future music platform, they aren't rolling backwards.
However, Windows Media Player is still in Windows 10. You can find it by typing it into Cortana search box beside the start button.

Hi all,

I have read online that there is a solution for ADO-base application to work from top-down level, i.e, Win 7 to Win XP etc. However, I would like to know is there a solution to solve a bottom-up level problem for ADO application to work. A
short background story, I'm now working on a VB6 project which is running perfectly fine in Win XP ver. However, when I move my project from XP to Win 7 SP1 (Enterprise Version), and I tried to recompile it, I got the
"xx_deprecated" error.
I learn that using msado60_Backcompat.tlb is able to solve the top-down issue. So what about bottom-up? Does this method works too? Hope any gurus here can advise on me this issue. Thank you very much.

Bern

Hello, I just recently started receiving an error when trying to create a new email message, new document, etc through a word-based application such as Outlook and Word 2003. The error I was receiving:

The function you are attempting to run contains macro or content that requires macro language support. When the software was installed, you (or your administrator) chose not to install support for macros or controls.

Please note that this error just flared up recently and I have using these programs for a good 3 months without receiving this error. I have tried installing all the macro features in Word. I have also tried turning down the macro security levels to low. Thank you for your time!

No you cannot upgrade a 32-bit system to a 64-bit one. You can however, clean install a 64-bit system instead of the 32-bit one.

Someone please help I was doing a system restore when the computer turned off when i rebooted it, the next time i turned my laptop on it goes to the log on screen but when I click my name it begins to log on but then an error message pops up titled Explorer.EXE - Unable To Locate Component and it says 'This application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.' So I click 'OK' and all that shows up is my wallpaper. No icons on the desktop no toolbar on the bottom no start menu no nothing just my picture. I really don't have a clue what to do at all. If anyone could give me clear instructions or any tips on how to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated, I have tried using the drivers disks to try to install but i cant access the dvd /cd drive wont open the disk juast sits in the dvd cd drive as well please help plus now it laptop whn i try to boot it stays at the windows xp screen but does not want to go any further then scanning there its a acer aspire 5670 with widows xp professional, sincerely frankp747

Answer:'This application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

Hello frankp747,From what I read, the "Wininet.dll" error can be caused by software, hardware, or malware. Why were you performing a system restore? Have you tried to access Safe Mode?As the computer is booting, tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the "Advanced Boot Options" Menu.Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" then press the <Enter> key. Reboot the computer. If that doesn't work, try "Safe Mode."If Safe Mode loads then try to do a System Restore using a point before your troubles began. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools," "System Restore."

Sorry guys I'm new here and I don't know much about computers so I decided to post this question here in General Chat.Well this is the problem:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. (it pops up twice)I've researched this topic on Google and I have noticed a lot of other people have had the same problem but I think this is a special case.See, whenever I turn on my laptop on everything goes well and even gives me the option of selecting F2 to to configure things on the computer. But when I get to the main page where I'm supposed to log in this message pops up:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. So then I try to click Ctrl, Alt, and Del to open up the task menu but nothing happens. I noticed the keys are not unresponsive because when I click Caps Lock the little light flashes on.So please can somebody help me out with this huge problem, or is my laptop over and done with?EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forumWe'll just assume XP-MG

Answer:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

I would prefer to move this topic to the OS forum that it relates to. Would you please let us know?

Hello - I wrote an application in VB6 suppose 'APP_X'. which i am running every night using a service called 'WinService_Y' running as admin user. Now in APP_X, I am using net.exe to sync time
with server.

When the WinService_Y triggers the APP_X, it gives me the error saying:

"The application failed to initialize properly(0xc0000142). click ok to terminate the application"

Okay, title of the dialog box is Net.exe so i know this occured when APP_X is trying to execute Net.exe.

P.S: This does not occur if i directly run the APP_X without using the WinService_Y

APP_X is written in VB6 and WinService_Y is in C# .net framework 2.0

APP_X is just not time sync there are tons of other things

Sync time Code APP_X(sample):

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

   sAppToRun = "net time " & "\\" & sBOServer & " /set /y"
WriteLog "Trying to sync with admin account"
    Set objexec = objShell.Exec(sAppToRun)
    sOut = objexec.stdout.readall()
    If sOut = "" Then
ShellAndWaitAsUser = CreateProcessAsUser(".", "Myuser", "MyPassword", Trim(sAppToRun))
       WriteLog "Timesync status on device"

I have seen several postings on this topic, but it seems that every one is a little different, so I am posting my dilemma. I am sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.
As of about 10 days ago, several programs will not open. Instead, I get the error window that states "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application." As far as I can tell, this error message affects these programs: Ultraplayer, Windows Media Player, Sound Recorder, Logitech Setpoint, Quicktime Player, Real One Message Center, and Total Recorder.

My computer is a desktop, HP Pavilion a1020n. Windows XP Home Ed., SP 3. Windows updates are current. Run Avast antivirus software and usually have Windows Firewall turned on.

Here's what I've tried:
Tried to uninstall and reinstall several programs. Uninstall usually won't happen. Have tried new installs over the old, but it doesn't "take."
10 days ago - went back to a restore point. Did no good.
Have run Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy several times, including today (May 2). Today Ad-Aware found and removed a few items from the families of Cookies, Win32 Trojan Spy, and Win32 Tr\.\per Delf. Spybot found nothing today.
Have run CCleaner to clean up registry.
Ran Hijack This and saved the log. I can post it if it is needed.

I've considered reformatting the hard drive, but really don't want to resort to that.

I don't kno... Read more

Okay, please forgive me as I have no idea where to post the issues that I am experiencing. Yes, I did check out previous posts that were similar in nature.

I was on my computer this morning. I shut down the computer and then this evening when I turn the computer on I get the following message:

Application Error The application failed to initialize properly. (0xc00000006). Click ok to terminate the application

I click okay I get a blank desktop - so I cannot run system restore. I have tried starting the computer in safe mode but I get the same message. I do not have any discs to re-install anything because when I bought my laptop I was told that all that stuff is built in. I have a compaq presario, windows xp. I am currently using my husbands laptop to try and figure out what to do. Can someone please help me?

Thank you,

Hi There

I have been given a friends computer to fix. The way he described it, it sounded like it was full of Malware etc, however I haven't been able to start it up as I get the following message appearing when I power it up.

userinit.exe - Application Error The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok...

This message appears twice, I then get the wallpaper of the computer up, but nothing else, no icons or task bar. I have tried a wee trip to safe mode but don't get anywhere from that either, just the same message.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

Colin

I was brought a machine the other day from a friend who got it from a house she was cleaning...so of course there is no telling why they left it behind as it is souped up with all the fans, lights, and amd EP-8KHA motherboard with the counter on it...which when I first loaded it..it took forever the boot screens came up then the wonderful....Services.exe - Application Error. The application failed to initialize (0xc0000005). came up. I went through the prompts of ending it...then 20 mins or so later windows finely loaded but the start menu was gone....at first the whole desktop was just the blue screen but my patients in letting it load I finely had icons but still no start menu...I found that someone had removed nortan...so there is no anti-virus on it....well I tried to load AVG on a CD that I burned off my PC and load it...along with Spy-bot, ad-aware SE, and a few other programs to see if I could get some of the tried but true to repair any virus, malware and such off. Well to no avail did any of the programs load...so I had noticed that when I tried going into user accounts to see if this account had admin. privileges the user accounts never loaded. Doing some investigating I found on Microsoft that I could make another account with admin privileges and that it should load....NOPE....I got the account created but when I tried to log into it no windows just a blank screen...Ctrl.Alt.Delete. brings up the task manager on network I see that it says that the INTERNET is run... Answer:Services.exe - Application Error. The Application Failed To Initialize (0xc0000005).

Well...it seems to me (I may be misreading) but that system belonged to a unnamed 3d party, which had the operating license.

If I had found such system, the first thing I would have done is wipe it clean (because I don't like using someone else's data which they've decided to trash) and to give myself a good start at seeing if the system worked properly.

Then I would have done a clean install.

That's the only way that I know how to go from a series of unknowns...to a known good, working system.

Worst case scenario: The system is highly infected.

Best case scenario: The system has O/S or malware problems or a combination thereof.

A user is getting a popup warning upon login (see event log entry below).

This started last friday and another Tech ran chkdsk and the user was able to print a few times before they left at end of day, not able to print today. I ran the chkdsk but no luck.

The print spooler service will not start, when forced the popup shows.

I have removed and replaced spoolsv.exe with no luck.

Hello..

I am trying to help fix my brothers computer.

It seems to have had a number of infections over the past year or so. He has Norton AntiVirus.

Currently, Norton does not report any infections, however, I ran a scan with Spyware Doctor and it reported a lot of infections:
Trojan-Downloader.Ruins
Application.PopCap
Application.Keystroke Spy
Adware.Search_Toolbar
Trojan-Downloader.Popuper
Downloader.PopCap

There were more. I have saved the scan results, and attached them to this post.

I followed steps listed 1 through 5 in the IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help.

I also ran a number of other scans, including:
Super Antispyware
AVG Antispyware
Eset Online Scan

Those scans did not show any problems.

The Panda log is as follows:

I've had an ongoing problem with application errors that say the following:

<app name.exe> - Application Error
The instruction at "0x036...." referenced memory at "0x00000ba0". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I've run HJT before and others couldn't find anything. I've significantly cleaned up my PC, currently uninstalled about 4-5 different spyware/adware programs (at the instruction of a MS tech support person who's trying to help me integrate SP2 back into my c:/ with no luck ). But, someone on the XP forum suggested I run HJT again and copy the log so here it is. If anyone has any other ideas I'm open to listening. I get this error message when exiting out of almost every application or browser I have. Can't seem to figure this one out. Thanks!

Answer:Application error message every time I exit application

I don't see major here...Did you install anything before this happened? Perhaps IE 7.0?

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.

Download LSPFix http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/LSPFix.exe and run it. Check the box that says 'I know what I'm doing'. Click on inetcntrl.dll on the left window and then click on the arrow pointing to the right. Click Finish and follow the prompts.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...search/ie.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust.../www.yahoo.com

Make sure you turn off any antivirus programs you have running while performing the online scan below. Using Internet Explorer, run a virus scan at http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner Click on 'Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner' and install the ActiveX component from Kaspersky. Click Yes and it will begin downloading the latest definition files. Once that's done, click on 'Scan Settings' and make sure the following are selected:

Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
- Extended

Scan Options:
- Scan Archives
- Scan Mail Bases

Click OK. Now under select a target to scan, select 'My Computer'. It will ... Read more

And now I am so screwed. I can't even open services.msc, I can't install an update, I can't run updates and I can't re enable anything because I can't get into services to do it. Please don't say system restore because I disabled it. If you say get a mac, then yes, I agree!

Answer:I disabled application info and application update in services.msc

I was going to ask EA this, but their support contact form doesn't seem to work.

I used to play the Sims 2 on my pc. The pc was slightly underqualified, but besides slow gameplay it seemed to work fine. I had all the expansions save for University installed.

All of a sudden when I was playing it seemed to freeze, and a popup saying 'This application has crashed, application will not terminate' popped up. This happened around the time that I upgraded my pc with additional RAM and when I installed Free Time. I didn't know if it was the problem of either those things.

I still kept playing, but after a while I could only play for about 5 minutes before it popped up again. Then, I decided to play with an older lot that I created before the installation of Freetime. Strangely, I was able to play in that lot for hours and I never got that popup. The popup only came up during the actual game play, so not during CAS, or building etc.

I recently bought a new laptop. It's a special gaming laptop and it has really good specs, so I decided to buy it, mainly because I play the SIms 2 a lot. (See DXDiag). I installed all the expansion (including university), so now I have all the expansions+stuff packs on this laptop. I also copied all the custom content from my computer to my laptop. The installation went fine, and in the beginning everything seemed to run smoothly.

That was mostly due to the fact that I was building a lot more and creating families than acutal... Read more

OK, this is admittedly a strange one...

I have used an old (probably a 16-bit) application as my time synchronizer this I've used for quite some time. Its name is TimeRC, and is a great synchronizer as it tracks moon phases along with the time (from selectable, multiple potential time servers). After a fatal software crash a couple of weeks ago, I'm in the process of recovery. Attempts to manually launch the EXE, result in a launch-time error stating that the ap is not compatible with my Windows 7 Pro (SP1). Note that I'm running on the same level of Windows that I was using prior to the crash/re-install. I have inhibited compatibility checking (Group Policy adjustment) only to incur the Win32 error.

I've been through the litany of utilities (registry) to correct this situation, and I KNOW that this ap runs just fine on Windows 7 (from pre-crash days). I am at my wits end trying to avoid this situation. I suspect that there is a registry setting difference (now versus pre-crash) about which I'm ignorant, so I'm open to any, and all suggestions.

To use an alternative time synchronizer is not an option...I'm anal about how my system looks, feels, and performs!! I've even tried running in XP mode (virtual machine) to no palatable result. Note that I don't have access to the program's source code, otherwise I could recompile!

There's got to be something that I'm missing.

Color me frustrated,

Answer:Avoiding '<application name> is not a valid Win32 application' error.

Have you just tried removing the program and install again.

cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142). Click ok to close the application

Anyone know why it happened?

I got this error when I tried to restart to install an update. However, in windows update, it showed I had nothing to update. There was the little yellow shield by the shut down button to indicate it was installing an update when I would shutdown.

I rebooted fine, and CMD works fine. Is it possible windows thought it had to install something, and the installer had already installed the update (I went onto windows update earlier myself to install the windows and silverlight updates) and it bugged because maybe it had to use cmd to execute the update or something?

Answer:cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly

It seems to be happening again, but only when I shutdown when explorer is open. I tried and tested his multiple times. It has only happened after the new silverlight update and kb 30247777 (sorry if the number is wrong) update.

What is causing this?
