GPO: Applying User settings based on computer

Question: GPO: Applying User settings based on computer

I have a number of workstations that I need to apply user registry keys to, has anybody ever done this before using group policies?

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: GPO: Applying User settings based on computer

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: GPO: Applying User settings based on computer

so each user has a different GPO depending on the system they log into?

I can apply 'Site Zone Assignement' successfully to user:
User Settings -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer -> Internet Control Panel -> Security Page.
I can use this to add sites to trusted sites.
When I apply the 'Security Compliance Manager' 4.0 Internet Explorer GPO template to the workstation, the user site zone assignment settings "stop taking". I say stop taking, because according to group policy modeling, and gpresult,
the user GPO is present and applied.

Of note:
If I change the 'Site Zone Assignement' to a computer setting, it takes. {My manager doesn't want to do this}
If I enable loopback processing it does not take.

I've seen this issue on windows 7 and 10 Enterprise x64 clients.
I feel like there is something set in the SCM internet Explorer GPO set that's preventing user settings (whether from GPO or user) from applying, but I can't put my finger on it. Does anyone else know?

Anyone know why some computers on our network have an approx. 30 second delay before it gets to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen for logging in to the network? In the meantime, it hangs for this time period at the "Applying Computer Settings" screen. My computer has no delay, but three others have a delay for about 10-35 seconds. I believe once in Windows both of these also have a delay at "Applying Personal Settings". I've searched the Internet and can't seem to find an answer. All 3 computers are set for automatic IP and DNS and all that stuff in Internet protocol. All computers have XP Pro SP2 or XP SP2 installed and the server is Windows 2003. Could it be a service that I disabled, but the other computers still have it running?

What I know so far:
- I'm only worried about 4 computers right now with 10, 15, 22 and 35 second delays. Mine has no delay at all.
- everyone is on the same switch and we have no hubs
- no roaming profiles on any computer
- no network shares on any computer
- the mapped drives for each person is the same, so this shouldn't be an issue
- My computer and the 35-sec delay computer have 512MB of ram and all the others have only 256MB.

- I checked some of the user profiles on the computers and here are the results.
mine (no delay): 5 user profiles, 1 account unknown, 90 MB
22 sec delay: 7 user profiles, 3 account unknown, 78 MB
15 sec delay: 9 user profiles, 7 account unknown, 33 MB

My first hunch is DNS is not setup correctly. Is the 2K3 server running DHCP? Or are they pulling DHCP from a router?

What do they use for DNS?

When XP is booting up on this PC, it goes through the usual steps, but Applying Computer Settings takes a long time, then the dialog goes away and the system reboots itself. What do I do? I've tried booting in Safe Mode and it does the same thing.

Answer:XP Reboots at Applying Computer Settings

Hit F8 and choose "Disable automatic restart on system failur", to get the "Blue Screen of Death", instead of rebooting, where you'll get an error number. This error number can be used to search at the Microsoft support page for solution. The original poster should always write the last response !!!Let us know, if the problem is solved !!!

Hi everyone,

I have a windows xp computer that is on a domain and when you start it for the first time of the day it gets stuck at applying computer settings before you can log in. If you do a hard shut down to restart the computer it seems to start up normally. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Answer:Stuck at Applying Computer Settings

I am still having this issue does anyone have any suggestions? I might try and take it off the domain and re-join the domain.

Our IT group has been troubleshooting this issue for over 6 weeks now.We have numerous PCs on our network that can take up to 1 hour "applying computer settings" and/or randomly lock-up for 10-15 minutes at a time.We have tried "EVERYTHING" and I mean "EVERYTHING" prior to stumbling accross Combofix. After combofix was ran on ~8 systems, it reduced the boot time to under 1 minute. We are running McAfee Enterprise 8.7i with latest DATs but that fails to detect and/or correct anything. We need to determine if this is in-fact malware/virus and try to pinpoint what exactly was causing this. Please advise.

Answer:1 Hour applying computer settings

I would suggest that you follow the instructions in This Guide starting at Step 6.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it HERE Please include a description of your computer issues and what you have done to try to resolve them.I would also suggest that you copy and paste the above description of your problem and situation.

Hello,

Running Windows XP SP3 on a HPCompaq EVO PC in a Windows 2003 Server environment. One of my PC's recently hangs on applying computer settings. I logged on as Administrator after 30 minutes of hanging on loading the settings and ran Symantec Endpoint Protection AV which showed no viruses. Ran HitmanPro 3.6 which did not find anything and ran Malwarebytes which did not find anything. When I tried logging on a user, it would hang forever on loading personal setting and eventually log on but the user could not connect to his home folder to get to his network files. I am a novice working for a non-profit. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

When I turn on the router, the windows login face won't go in, it stays in "Applying computer settings" continously, but when I turn off the router, it goes past that phase immediately and into the login face. The router works perfectly when I turn it on again after I login into my account. How can I fix this?

I have one computer on a domain that will hang sometimes on 'Applying Personal Settings.' It's running Windows XP Svc Pack 3, and the server is 2003. I've read through many forums that I found on Google and one think I noticed was a common theme of this happening with computers that have been reimaged, or cloned. This computer was reimaged back in August. Unfortunately, no solutions were ever given. Has this been figured out? What should I look at?

Answer:Computer Hangs on 'Applying Personal Settings'

I'd be inclined to suspect a damaged profile, as a wild guess.

I would create a new user profile...try to boot into it...and see if the problem results.

I see a lot of guesswork about this situation...but no definitive resolution/cause.

The profile suspicion is what makes sense to me.

Hi all !!,

I have just joined Bleeping Computer and I need your help with an issue. Since aproximately two weeks ago two computers in the LAN (one first, second started acting out just yesterday) take 15+ minutes to join the domain with the "Applying computer settings" message at the screen.
My network is very simple: 1 Domain controller, 1 Citrix box, 1 Application server, and 30 desktop PCs in premises in the LAN, and 6 remote computers connected through the Citrix box. All wired connections, no laptops.
Nothing unusual in IPCONFIG /all
No malware reported.
Startup programs set up as the minimum necessary. Unchecked all unnecesary ones.
Common things between the troubled two:
McAfee Security Center as antivirus
An Authentication TAB in Local Area Connection's properties with Enable IEEE 802.1x checked and "Authenticate as computers ..." checked.
No particular group memberships for the users of the two troubled PCs. In fact iwhen the same users log in using another PC, the login process works fine.
My head is almost exploding with all the things I have read.
Could you please help me ????

Answer:"Applying Computer Settings" slow login

My name is Peter, and I'm IT Administrator at Junior High School. One month ago I installed Windows 10 Education on all computers. Everything was fine until today. Today users changed his passwords. Now, when user try to login to the PC, system hangs at "Applying User Settings". The only solution (not the best) is to remove user profile from workstation, but after next password change, problem returns. Active Directory looks fine, Previously installed Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 has worked without this issue. Maybe some one knows the solution or perhaps steps to diagnose it.

hi guys,

this happen to all my clients, i'm using Win2003 as my server, and i set only a Group Policy, which is "set all the local administrator password to be the same with the domain admin" <only 1Kb in size>

but i don't know why, all the clients takes up to 2-3 minutes to go to the ctrl+alt+del screen.

no virus or spyware detected by symantec

Answer:fast at startup but extremely slow at applying computer settings

i also has set the client's XP to best performance. and processor to do the service more than the program. but still takes 2-3minutes at applying the computer setting.

My computer hangs when loging on to a Windows 2003 server at the applying computer settings stage. The workstation is running XP Pro SP2.Any ideas?

Answer:Computer hangs on applying computer settings

..click here;en-us;329457Sounds like it? Except it says fixed in SP2 which you've said you're running. It sounds like something to do with Group Policy i'd say as I think that is the stage at which it is applied. Is this a 'new' thing? Only this machine? The question I always ask myself when things go wrong is 'whats changed' - that isn't clear from your post. Did it work before? When you say 'hangs' have you tried leaving it for a long period (say overnight) or do you mean it errors or what? Sounds like it can be very slow but eventually apply and I wonder if you're giving up after say 10 mins? (I appreciate that's too long but at least you'd know if it eventually gets there if you leave it)

I was looking around the net for a standard template for word for users to sumbit computers problems, but oddly enough I could not really find any. I am guessing with today's changes to a "helpdesk" and web-based enviroment they are sort of behind in the times. Unfortunately my boss is wanting a physical copy for a layout, so I am trying to think about all the different things that need to be on there.

If anyone has any suggestions or a template I can work off, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

BTW - I searched through Microsoft Online Office gallery of templates and could not find anything around what I needed. The forms do not have to be overly complicated though as there is less than 30 people working there.

Answer:Need a Template for User to Submit Computer Problems/ Not Web-based

your boss doesn't want paper copies of every helpdesk request right. what i would do is set up a mailbox to be shared with any IT support staff. you all can open it and take requests. then go into outlook and design a form to your own liking and put it in the organizational forms library. anyone in your system can open the form, fill it in and submit it to your helpdesk account.

Hi Guys,

I have a virtual machine which runs Windows 2003 server, its a member of a domain (not a domain controller), its a secondary DNS server, and a file server.

It never had any hickup for the past few months, amazingly, an employee removed the plug from the main server (the host) running all virtual machines, and after several attempts , i recovered other servers, except for this one.

Its handing on "applyng computer settings" , i boot it in safe mode with networking, it works and enters.

I added the registry value "WaitForNetwork" and had it value set to 1 , didnt work, i changed the virtual network adapter, it would reach the login screen, then it doesnt take any commands from the keyboard.

But mind you, in safe mode, its pingable and all goes somehow well with it (ofcourse we cant leave it runningin safe mode, no real services would work).

Any ideas?

Very urgent matter btw

Thnx
Wassim

I have a Server2k3 active directory that I am doing some tweaking on. Everything has been running fine until I tried to integrate wireless. I installed IAS running radius to authenticate, tested, everything worked fine.

Then I set up a group policy to automatically deploy the WPA settings and now even with machines plugged into ethernet, it is taking 7-10 minutes to log in while the computer says "applying computer settings". Once it finally gets logged in, everything seems to work fine, and you can log out and back in without a delay. If I disable the link to the wireless policy, everything works fine again. I have deleted and recreated the policy, but the problem keeps coming back.

I turned on verbose logging for userenv, and here is where it's getting hung up:

Answer:"applying computer settings" SLOW after wireless group policy

I may very well be wrong but seeing "Extension Wireless returned 0x0" tells me your wireless isn't detected at that point so the computer is having to wait until the wireless card is detected. When windows boots it takes a minute or so for a wireless card to be enabled and working.

I've searched the forum but fear that others aren't having this trouble. I installed IE7 and when i boot up, my pc hangs when applying personal and computer settings. It does boot after about 30 minutes, but that's unacceptable. I can't be the only one?!

Answer:IE7 Installed - Boot hangs at "Applying Computer Settings"

yeah it can be a bitch!
The 'standard ' download for IE7 actually installs three things and takes half an hour (on broadband) as a result. These are IE7, Various windows updates and the Microsoft malicious software removal tool.
The 'good ' news is you get a tick box when you down load the updates, you should untick the optional extras and do those at another session.
You will have gathered from this that you need to uninstall IE7 and reinstall it again as suggested.
If you can uninstall from add/remove programs in the control panel.
If not
open windows explorer (notIE)
on the tools menu press folder options
select view tab
in the advanced settings check show hidden files
press apply then OK
then go to start
start>run>type in
%SystemRoot%\ie7spuninst.exe /OK
follow the on screen instructions

If this does not work there is a much harder proceedure from the recovery console. Once you have installed IE7 you cannot do an XP repair install without breaking Windows.breaking windows.
I will post this if needed.

I have a machine running Windows 2000 that hangs for several (3-5) minutes on 'applying computer settings' when I reboot. This is after I switch it over to our domain. On workgroups it works fine.

I was reading on Deja some said it is the DNS server configuration, but I have about 150 machines here and only several have the problem.

Our DNS server is run by other guys across the hall, my department has our own computer guys (me), so I don't have control over anything other than the clients for now.

What can I check on my user's end? I gave it a big reformat a few days ago (unrelated), and reapplied settings but it still does this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Im not sure if this is in the right topic, so sorry if it isnt.

I have a a machine that keeps rebooting itself when coming up to the log in screen.

The machine is a Dell Optiplex 990 with 12gb ram and 1tb HDD.

At first i thought it was a windows update reboot loop when "configuring windows updates" however i have now cleared the windows updates and it still reboots its self when it says "applying computer settings" or even when its just at "Ctrl Alt +Delete to sign in".

If im quick enough I can log in when it give me the option and the pc wont reboot at all,
So it looks like after a certain amount of time before login the computer reboots itself for some unknown reason, i have checked the event viewer and theres nothing significant in there.

Im hoping this is something in the registry i can tweak to stop it doing this.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:System reboots - itself when "applying computer settings" or ...

Run a few Startup Repairs to see if these find anything awry.

Next boot into Win7 to establish a Clean Boot, test your RAM for sticks and slots, test your HD, replace any bloated AV, utilize System Resources to check for issues - which are all detailed in Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

This is the setup:

Windows 2003 DC using AD and group policy
Workstations are all Windows XP SP3
All workstations are on DHCP
The update worked sucessfully with 95% (maybe 300) of the desktops using WSUS
Only about 10-20 desktops are experiencing this "stuck" issue

Things I've tried without success so far:

Rejoin the domain and then reinstall IE7 - don't work
Take PC out of the OU so it wouldn't apply any GPO during startup - don't work
Installed IE7 manually instead of using WSUS - don't work
Checked IP and DNS - DHCP is enabled and no issues with DNS
This is not a profile issue because it's not stuck at "Applying Personal Settings". It gets stuck before the login window can even display.

I suspect that has something to do with GPO but I'm at such a lost right now. So in order for me to get past the "Applying Computer Settings" part so that I can get the login screen, I would have to unplug the network cable from the workstation. If I plug the network cable back in the PC, it would get stuck again on the next restart.

So far going into safemode and uninstalling IE7 and reverting back to IE6 has allow the users to login again. But we need IE7 to run certain programs. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I = Known Inflation figure for the preceding 12 months (percentage)

Cheers
quickvet7

Answer:Formula for applying 6-monthly price increases based on annual inflation rates

if you just want to increase by the inflation percentage then

depending on how the percent is formatted
say inflation was 2.3%
is the cell 2.3 formatted as a percent
or 0.023
or just as 2.3 in a cell
you need it to be a % so 0.023
and therefore may need to divide by 100
N = C * (1+ I )
OR

N = C* (1 + ( I/100 ))

in the example N = C * 1.023

Hello all,

I've got 10 workstations running XP Pro SP3 connected to a server running WinServer 2003 SP2...2 of the workstations get stuck for at least 25-30 minutes when logging onto the domain. They hang up on "Applying Computer Settings".. Eventually it logs on fine to Windows but this is becoming a major problem for my employees when trying to get to work in the mornings. Another issue is that both of the same users periodically get 'invalid path' errors when trying to use Outlook. A reboot usually fixes this issue but I was wondering if there was something I could do to remedy this situation. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Answer:Stuck on "Applying Computer Settings"

Maybe the surest way to unclog things is to install Windows fresh. What was that groan I heard?

Or a Repair install might help some. When a repair install works properly your data and all, or almost all, your installed programs are preserved.

Or, use something like Autoruns processes and services to try to get a picture of what's bogging things down.

My work PC has been slow on the "applying computer settings" mode after a reboot or a start up. The machine is on XP. It wasn't always that way, so I suspect it's something installed or an update that causes this problem. It takes almost 2 minutes before it finally gets passed it so I can log onto the network. Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:PC slow at "applying computer settings"

Sure. Restore it to a time before you had the problem.
Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.

Then do one update at a time and use the computer before you install the next one until you find the update you think is causing the problem.

Hi all,

Im in need of some help with my home network. About 1 month ago I rigged my old machine up with SBS 2003 for learning and messing around with, It all seems to be working fine but I have a problem.

The Problem:

I have 2 Windows XP SP2 machines on the network with the server, when the 2 machines are loading up they seem to take ages on "applying computer settings" after about 2 minutes they will popup with the ctrl + alt + del screen, once logged in they work fine. They are connect though a local domain and get IP's from the servers DHCP.

I have a number of searches on this problem and I cant seem to find a answer.

Server Specs:
Intel P4 1.7
768MB Ram
80GB HDD
Windows SBS 2003 fully service packed

Server does: DHCP, Domain Controller, Exchange

Client machine #1
Opteron 170
2GB Ram
2x 250GB WD 16MB Cache Raid 0
7900GT
XP SP2

Client machine #2
AMd 64 3000
1GB Ram
80GB 8mb Cache
FX5200
XP SP2

If you require any more info please let me know and I will supply you with it. I also have Remote Access setup on the server for anyone who would like to take alook and that I can trust

Hope you can help

Hi guys, I recently created a new Group Policy in Server 2003 for my XP Pro SP2 users. I have a problem where the Internet Connection settings are being ignored. I have checked these settings in the GP object and they are all correct. My specified homepage is being ignored and users are being directed to msn.com, none of the favourites I added are in the favourites menu, and the Proxy settings are being ignored. The GPO is User Configuration>Windows Settings>IE Maintenance>Connection, as well as Proxy, Favourites etc.I created a very similar GPO last year and the settings were all applied without problems. Upon changing to a newer policy, the problems have started. I have looked for any conflicting GP settings but I cant see anything to cause this.Does anyone know where I might have went wrong? I can only assume at this stage that I have indeed configured a setting which is bypassing my IE & Connection settings.Cheers,Martin

I have a number of GPO's for applying different IE and WMP settings to different people, and am developing new ones to account for IE11 that don't use the IEM. I have a problem that I can't account for. In every GPO the following setting is set the same:
User Configuration/Windows Components/Windows Media Player/Networking/Configure HHTP Proxy - Proxy Type = Use browser proxy settings
However, this setting applies correctly in some scenarios (see below) but not in others.

PC has IE9 and a policy that sets IE9 proxy using IEM - WMP correctly picks up the proxy setting
PC has IE11 and a policy that does not use IEM - WMP correctly picks up the proxy setting
PC has IE9 and a policy that does not use IEM - WMP does not apply the proxy settings
I'm confused, and the IEM could be a red herring but in any case why would this one setting not apply? Any help identifying what prevents it working would be welcome.
Thanks, Mark

Hiya,

Trying to set up a system so when it opens, a macro will remove all the toolbars, gridlines, column headings etc

Now, I've tried doing this using Application.ActiveWindow (or ActiveWorksheet I think) but it only applies it to the open worksheet.

Is there anyway to apply the settings to the whole system all at once? (I saw an ActiveWorkbook or something but I think I may be using that incorrectly because it produces an error when it starts to remove the toolbars etc).

Any ideas how I can choose the whole workbook and remove everything such as the toolbars at once?

Thanks!

Answer:Applying 'settings' to the whole workbook at once?

Not having done macros for some time, I ouldn't give you the coding. However, something that you might want to think about, is to create your workbook and make all the changes you want for the workbook and then save it as a Template which is protected with password etc.
All you do then is call that template up as a workbook. You could have a macro at closing to save as a template.
Thats my thoughts and it saves an awful lot of macro work.

Hi all, new member here,
I have a quick question with a long explanation.

This is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK (20sec login)

This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)

I've tried taking off all non necesary autostarting services. (even the antivirus just to test)
I've taken it off the domain and re-adding it with new computer name.
I've had it on static IP (with each of our 2 DNS as primary at separate times)
I've tried adding that specific user to the domain admins group.
None of these made any difference.

Now i'm stumped, where do I go from here?
Many thanks in advance.

Answer:XP sp3, slow domain login (not DNS issue, not slow at "applying computer settings")?

Never mind. Found it.
I had Home folder connect to H: \\misspelled\
plus i had it in a .bat for that user wich was spelled correctly.

It's always the easy solutions
Sorry to bother you all.

Greetings,
We applied some UAC settings via Group Policy to all Windows 7 machines. Now some old applications are throwing up a prompt and the users normal credentials wont run the app. The point is that the app DID NOT require admin privileges before we applied
the settings. The users were able to launch the app without prompts and run it successfully.
Does anyone know which security or UAC setting may be causing this? Remember that the apps ran perfectly well before these settings were applied  without an administrative account.
Thanks

I have a new network setup and all 3 workstations take 2-3 mins on the Applying your personal settings. If I disconnect the cable for a sec then it logs in fine and I can ping the server and access shares. This is a 2k3 server. What someone tell to do with DNS. The only thing is when I do a recursive test if fails. I do not have internet setup yet. This is a new building. But I did put in the DNS option for the soon to be router. What else could it be, on a 2k server I always put Allow dynamic updates but on 2k3 what should I do. Allow all or none?

I did find this. And I do have a continue setup icon.

I recently installed small business server 2003 on a clients' machine. I had the same problem as you. I realized that there was a box on the desktop that says "continue instillation of small business server." By that time I had created user manually so I descided to reinstall the entire OS. After I continued instillation, a web based page appeared (offline) that allowed me to do everything automatically and from then on my user logons have been short. So see if there is a continue installation box on your desktop.

I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit on a domain. After I installed SP1 on all our Windows 7 boxes the compatibility tab has stopped working on all the Windows 7 PCs. Under the properties of any executable file I can see the compatibility tab but when I check off any of the settings and hit apply the settings are not sticking. I tried checking off all the settings, or just some, different combinations but none of them apply. If I check the compatibility tab after I hit OK or Apply all the settings are unchecked.

I also noticed that when I browse any of the following keys in the registry,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers

I can't delete any of the string values in the Layers key or the key itself. I can see all the previous string value entries added before I installed SP1 but I can't delete any of them, modify them or add new ones. I'm logged in as an administrator, running regedit as an administrator...I've also changed the permission of both those Layers keys to the everyone group, given the everyone group full control to the key and sub keys and made the everyone group owner of the key and applied all those permission to the Layers key and sub keys...a bit desperate to figure this one out.

I am using the dell keyboard backlight settings to try to enable the automatic keyboard backlight ("Illuminate keyboard in low light conditions only") and it really is not working.
I can click the check box to enable it, but when I press apply it just resets the checkbox to empty and sets the time for the keyboard backlight back to 1 minute. I have restarted my computer many times with and without manually adjusting the backlight with the key and I have re-installed the software to adjust the keyboard backlight.
Nothing seems to be working.

Hi,

My desktop was infected with a strange virus which made the C drive full.I was not able to either install new programs or uninstall any program. When I restarted my desktop it goes till "Applying personal settings" and then does not move beyond that.
I started my system in safe mode and installed CA antivirus and ran an antivirus scan.Yet after that my system does not start.

When I try to install fresh Windows in another partition,it errors out saying there is no disk space.

Please help

Answer:Applying personal settings takes forever

Depending on your experience, or the experience of a friend, I would suggest using a live CD. Maybe have a friend download Ubuntu.

This will allow you to access your drive, copy what important info you want to keep to DVD/CDR or whatever.

Using the Live CD you can probably delete the obvious rubbish the virus bloated your drive with.

The Live CD won't be affected by any virus that is on your drive.

If you aren't happy with this, then you can buy yourself a new hard disk and replace your current one, but you will have to be incredibly careful that you don't allow the virus to transfer when you choose what means you prefer to obtain data from the corrupted drive.

More information can be provided pending the route you want to follow.

Our GP settings for our Power Options are set to 'Never" sleep on all our Windows 7 machines. All our GP settings apply perfectly on our Dell desktops and have never had any issues until now. We've ordered newer Dell desktops but still running Win 7.

Once I place them on the domain and move them into the correct OU, the power options settings will get applied. However, some of the new desktops are not applying the settings.

I've tried re-adding it to our domain and no luck.

Anybody know how I can fix it locally?

Answer:How to fix Group Policy not applying for Sleep Settings?

I don't have ability to create the power plan manually because that gets locked down once on the domain. Just need a way to apply the sleep setting from the Domain Controller.

i have a GG_test that works on 1/2 the workstations

they are both under the same OU

i have checked: switch / switch ports / cables / firewall / av

i have run gpresults on a working & non-working workstation

the non-working workstation gpresult says that "gg_users" applied
it says nothing about "gg_test"
yet it says that the user is a member of the "gg_test"

the working workstation gpresult says that "gg_user" & "gg_test" both applied.

i am out of ideas on why the policy applies on one workstation and not another.
i have even brought up both user accounts, and verified they have all the settings (AD).

any ideas ?

Well, I'm sure there has to be a way to do this, I just don't know what that way is. I have a clean Windows installation, and I have various users. When I install Windows, I like to configure everything a certain way, such as no desktop wallpaper, very specific start menu configuration, disabling all the fade effects and such under the performance tag on the computer's properties, etc.

What I want to do is apply all these changes to all accounts instead of having to go to every account and doing it all multiple times. Maybe these things are all kept in a specific folder, or a specific file I can just copy over?

Thanks for the help beforehand.

I've been reading up on applying Folder View settings to either All Folders or all folders of the same type, but neither of those is quite what I'm looking for.

Specifically, I'd like to write my own utility that reads the folder view settings for any given folder (I assume from the registry), and give that view a name. Then I'd like my program to be able to apply any of my newly named views to any other folder. I particularly want to add an "Apply to Subfolders" feature to this utility.

I'm not looking to distribute this; just for my own personal OCD satisfaction, so I don't mind if it ends up being a kludgy solution.

To that end, I have only two questions, really:

Let's say I have a folder under my documents named "Test" with a bunch of random files of all types in it: Some pictures, some video, some audio, and a bunch of text files. Let's further say I customize the folder view settings for this one folder to be like old-school DOS: Details view showing FileName, Size, Type, Date Modified. Plus I set up the column widths to be "just so."

Windows remembers my settings for this one folder. If I can find them, and read/write them, I can realize my dream of managing my own folder views.

So question #1 is: Where are one-off custom folder view settings stored?

I believe Windows inexplicably holds two different view settings for any given folder under a special folder. For example, If I open "Documents" from the start menu and open t... Read more

Answer:Applying custom Folder View settings to subfolders

Initial research:

Folder View Settings - Back Up and Restore in Windows offers a BAT file for backing up and restoring your folder settings. The backup portion of this BAT file saves the following registry entries:

Code:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU
HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU
HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags

From looking at my own registry, the list of individual custom folder views appears to be in:
HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags

BagMRU is a nice unique search term, which uncovers Explaining the Bags/BagMRU registry tree (trying), which in turn links to the following utility:

ShellBagsView v1.16

That doesn't appear to have been updated for Windows 10, but 10 seems to use the same setup as Windows 7. Running it on my machine, I do indeed get a list of all my individual folder settings.

Clearly this is possible. I just need to sit down and fiddle with it.

I have recently installed a Windows 2003 server with 10 Windows XP SP3 workstations logging onto it. On some of the workstations there is a delay of 5 to 10 minutes "applying your local settings" before going into Windows desktop. I have been told that it may be a DNS issue on the server, but the only DNS setting I have on the local area connection on the server is 127.0.0.1. Everything seems to be working fine but this is a source of frustration if a workstation needs to be restarted.

I have adjusted the Advanced Appearance Settings in Control Panel to make my window headings a little larger and bolder. The changes have worked well in all my programs except Office 2010 programs! These programs continue to show the original small, unbolded heading fonts. I have been told on another Windows 7 Forum that Control Panel changes will not work on Office programs, so is there another way to change the Title Bar headings in Office 2010 so that they are a little larger and bolder?

I would love to just click on 'Heading 2' on the 'Styles' toolbar and have the title the Font size that I specify and color Black. For example, I want to highlight titles throughout a document. I would like those Titles to be Font Size 10 Black with Spacing Options set to Before and After at 0 pt Line Spacing Single. The issue with every new document, I must do this with my first Title that I select. I must highlight the Title, Left click on Heading 2. Then Right click Modify. Select Font to Black. Size 10. Font Times New Roman. I have tried to retain this format setting by selecting in Heading 2 settings to "New documents based on this template".So once my first Title is what I want, then every Title thereafter will follow but I would like to just click on Heading 2 without having to first modify settings for each document.

hey everyone, i'm kind of stepping into the role of IT here at my office (it's a small one, and most of my duties involve setting up computers and installing software and what not). anyways, I was curious, is it possible to sync up all settings between computers depending on the user profile? I've gotten outlook to sync perfectly and a few people were wondering if I could sync the rest of their computer settings and files so it feels like they never leave their desk when switching between computers. any ideas?

Answer:Syncing Computer Settings Between User Profiles

You could set up Roaming Profiles. View this link on how to set up Roaming profiles. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738596.aspx.

WARNING. Depending on your server and how much information is stored on the client PC, this may not be a good idea. Having information stored on the server instead of localy is always a good idea. Your outlook .pst file is one that may cause problems if their profiles get too large.

Probably the best thing to do in this kind of situation is to point their My Documents folder to the server. On your server make a "user" folder and create a folder for each person. On each PC, right click My Documents or Documents for Vista users, and go to Properties. Under the Location tab, you can have it point to that folder you created on the server. This allows them to access their documents, plus it makes it easier to back up these files... since most users are prone to saving to their Documents folder.

If you are familiar with Group Policies, you can accomplish this easier. In Group Policies, you can set up the users to have their Documents folder pointed to the server automatically. Do some reading on Group Policies before you go diving in though.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Hi

The "System" in WinXP registry was corrupt, giving me a black screen and a non-functional system. This motivated me to try a manual registry restore, using MSKB Article #307545.
Now I cannot access a user profile.

Would you know how I can get it functional again, or at least recover some pictures and letters from within the profile.

Operating System: WinXP, Drive format: NTFS

Solutions tried:
I applied MSKB Article 307545, in;
C:\windows\system32\config\

Running a ?dir /w?, I saw no contents.

I then viewed

C:\windows\repair\ and using ?dir? saw ?System, Software, Sam, Security, Default, and a few User, and NTUser files along with a db file and a text file.

I think I went back and tried to view files under ?config? What I remember is seeing nothing there!

The ?user? and ?ntuser? files found in the repair folder, I was not certain how to apply, when I tried after removing the portion of the names up to the ?user_#######, and ntuser_########?
I was unable to copy them over into the config folder.

After applying the main hives and booting successfully, My user profile was not available, the one I was using before the crash was a renamed profile that only can be located by the old original name now, but it is not accessable.

I checked to see if I could apply a system restore point and there were no options other than Jan 18, 2008, which was yesterday the day I applied these solution attempts.

Right, I have this problem with my graphics cards that I've been trying to fix for a while. I am using two R9 280X cards in Crossfire. They're overclocked from 1000 to 1100 MHz by the manufacturer. The symptons are mainly these:

1) When I use MSI Afterburner to overclock the cards, the overclock applies at first, but after a few minutes it defaults to 1000 MHz. Changing the clock again has no effect, it just stays at 1000 MHz whether I try to overclock or underclock. The same is true for the memory clock. Here's a picture showing how it looks.

2) According to GPU-Z the clocks apply correctly to the 2nd card.

3) The power limit slider seems to be working. Increasing or decreasing it leads to marginal changes in benchmarks.

4) All the games I've tried completely ignore the 3D application settings in Catalyst Control Center. Changing things like AA and AF have no impact on image quality or frame rate even when I tell it to override application settings.

These problems have persisted even though I've tried different graphics cards. I used to have a single HD 7970 and had the exact same problems. I also tried reinstalling a fresh version of Windows, in case it was some sort of software problem, but the problems persisted.

This has led me to believe there might actually be a problem with my motherboard, as that's the only plausible source of the problem that I haven't tested. I have no idea how the motherboard could be the problem, but I... Read more

user configuration, administrative templates, system, user profiles:
"exclude directories in roamin profile" - enable.
prevent the following directories from roaming with the profile:

the list of settings is too long to list here.

I'm curious if it is possible to change Windows settings based on my laptop's location. What I would like is a few settings (GPOs) to change based on whether I am at home vs anywhere else.

I'm guessing that detecting the wireless/wired network I'm connected to, or looking for a server or specific piece of hardware (laptop dock) are the best ways to reliably determine the laptop's location. I'd prefer not to set up a Windows domain at home, however I'd imagine it would make it easier to accomplish what I'm trying to do.

I would prefer a native solution, however third party programs, scripting or programming is acceptable. I'm using Win 10 Pro x64.

We have gone to SBS2008 and are now running in a domain (was peer to peer).

Naturally to do this I logged in as normal joined a DOMAIN, rebooted, and logged in with the proper domain user account and password.

Is there any way to copy the settings from that local account to the new DOMAIN log in user account?

I normally use a little program called outback plus which backups all this stuff and the ie settings/cache/etc - same for the firefox stuff and then I can restore that wherever I want -- however that only seems to be working on a few of the comps. 3 of them in fact the files will not restore -- no idea why and no google search has uncovered the answer so I am looking for an alternative.

I am stuck big time and need to finish this asap as everyone comes back to work tomorrow at 8:30am

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Answer:Copy settings (desktop, taskbar, ie, and firefox) from one LOCAL user to DOMAIN user?

what OS?
roaming profiles or standard local-only profiles?

either way if XP,
System Properties -> Advanced -> User Profiles Settings -> select local account, "Copy To" select new domain account profile folder as destination.

or use something like User Profile Wizard by ForensIT.
I've used it several times before and it worked flawlessly for me.

Hi,I have been on this site multiple times and it has helped me alot. I usually find answers on what i'm looking for but i'm puzzled with this one excel sheet i'm working on, if anyone can help.I have an excel sheet that has alot of tracking information for work, i have a Status column that says "Pending" "Completed" and "Filed", and i have 3 other sheets that say Pending, Completed, and FIled, i would like to have it so that if someone enters information and selects one of the status that the whole row be copied to its respective sheet. I hope i have explained it well enough.Thank you

Answer:Copy Row Based On User Input

Hi,Assuming that the status Pending/Completed/Filed is entered in column D thenTry this:In the source worksheet where data is added, right-click the worksheet name tab and select 'View code'Enter this code:Option Explicit

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim rngDest As Range

On Error GoTo ErrHnd:

'stop any further changes triggering this code
Application.EnableEvents = False

'test if change was in the status column (4=D)
If Target.Column = 4 Then
'find next empty row on destination worksheet
Set rngDest = Worksheets(Target.Text). _
Range("A" & CStr(Application.Rows.Count)).End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0)
'copy source row to destination
Target.EntireRow.Copy
rngDest.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValuesAndNumberFormats
End If

'remove copy marquee
Application.CutCopyMode = False

'restore events
Application.EnableEvents = True
Exit Sub

'error handler
ErrHnd:
Err.Clear
'restore events
Application.EnableEvents = True
End SubYou can change the column used for the status in this line:'test if change was in the status column (4=D)
If Target.Column = 4 ThenI suggest that you use data validation in the status column to ensure that only the correct text is entered which exactly matches the worksheet names. If you entries have a unique ID, you could extend the code to delete the entry from the other worksheets. At the moment if you have an item labeled "Pending" it will be in the Pending worksheet, but change it's status to "Completed" and i... Hi -
My xp pro box is on a network here at work, and our sys admin is not able to help much since he is remotely located. Lately, when I log in in the morning, my machine gets to the screen that says "Applying your personal settings...", and just sits for about 5 minutes. Then the desktop loads just fine. I've gotten all the updates, no one else in the office is having this problem, and I've recently changed my password.

I've seen a couple of old posts about this problem from 2005, but does anyone have any recent experience with this - and a solution? Thanks.

- Joe

Answer:Windows xp pro hanging at "Applying your personal settings"

As triage, check your eventlog and see if you notice any obvious issues. Also check your startup.
To check event log:
1. Start\Run, type "eventvwr" in the text box a press enter.
Review the application and system logs for errors
Thencheck your startup environment.
1. Click start\run, and type msconfig in the text box and make sure everything is normal, and uncheck anything you may nat recognize. I would also clear temp directory

Say you want the computer automatically to go into Power Saver mode at night, High Performance during 9-5pm hours, and then Balanced at other times. Is there a way to do this?

It might be doable using task scheduler and the powercfg command, but the main issue with that is if you computer is sleeping, it probably won't execute the command to take it out of sleep.

Send me your ideas and comments.

Answer:Change power settings based on a schedule?

if your computer is sleeping, then I dont think it matters which power mode it is in. Otherwise, this is a good Idea and I am interested as well if anyone finds a setup.

Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 some months ago. Original profile did not require password to log in, and was not associated with a Google email or Microsoft account that I know of.

I added a user a couple of days ago (added a personal account of mine with my own password from my laptop) because software problem said try another user, and this laptop computer didn't have any other users. So I added one.

That was a mistake. After I "added a user" I could ONLY log on the computer with the NEW user. The old one, the profile, all the settings, the playlists, everything was gone. Like it never existed. There was and is no option to log on as the original. The computer became an extension of my laptop, with zero other option.

I had to add a third user and give it admin capabilities just to remove my laptop profile (which I didn't really want on this computer, I was just adding a user to "try another user" with a software problem). But all my original settings seem gone.

I can see additional users in Windows Media Player for instance, but it says I need permission to access those. Since it is impossible to log on as any other user except this latest (and third) user. I can't give myself permission to access those old playlists.

Adding a user should come with a warning.

If anyone has any ideas where I can recover the old settings, I'd be grateful. The threads I've seen around the web and here have directed to Windows 7 workarounds which do not work... Read more

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

It might be worth finding out all the users that are associated with your PC. To do this open a command prompt (right click on the Start button) and then type in the following command wmic useraccount list full

This will display all users on your system (including hidden ones) and if you paste the results here we can determine which accounts are still present. If you want to see more details of this process look in the tutorial: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3...dows-10-a.html

I started configuring Vista Home Premium as an administrative user and was wondering if it was possible to transfer the configuration for that user to a different standard user account which, from what I understand, would be more secure. It should be possible to switch the administrative user account to a standard user account (haven't seen this either), but I would like the option of using a standard user account with basically the settings I have set up so far for the admin account while maintaining the admin account as is. Is there an easy way to accomplish this? Thanks.

Answer:Transfering Program Settings for Administrative User to Standard User

The easiest way would be to create a new account, copy the profile of the original account over to the new one, and then make the new account a limited one.

Though this is for corrupted profiles, the method is the same:

I use Windows XP Pro. My lovely children got to my computer this morning and logged in as me, rather than as "kids". Now, when I try to log in as "me", all of my settings are gone and the scene and settings look like when you log in as the "kids" . When I try to go into explorer, it tells me I have to install it. Same with all other programs. Nothing shows up as installed. If I pull up my programs list, it still lists my programs such as itunes, word, etc., but if I try to run them, they all need to be installed. (Logging in as "kids" still looks like "kids" though.) If I look for my Word documents through another user's Word, I can find them, under "kids documents", "shortcut to me documents". I looked at doing system restore but somewhere in the process it looks like system checkpoints have been deleted because the only system checkpoint it shows is from today and is after the change occurred.

I obviously can access my Word documents but it is my saved email and addresses that I am most upset about. Any suggestions? Would it make things worse to try restarting the computer? Many, many, many thanks.

When I started up it says Win.ini corrupt. Then it starts
up as a new user losing track of Favorites and Start Menu
and Desktop Icons, Display and Folder attributes. Under
Documents and Settings it has added Dave.U5R2D5 in
addition to Dave which still has all the information. I tried
switching the 2 Filenames to get back to what it used to be but
gave an error message and didn't do it and started another new file.
Is there some way to use the old Dave file?

Answer:Lost settings, New user made in Documents and Settings

Hiya asd123321.

It sounds like you`ve re-installed the system from CD over the top of an existing system, giving you a fresh `Dave`. Have you recently run a repair or indeed, done a clean install ?

As a work-around, can you take the documents & favourites from the old `Dave` and put them in the new `Dave` so at least you`re back up and running again.

This seems like a basic concept, but I can't quite figure out how to make it happen.

In a domain environment with Win7 systems, I want to create a shared folder that all domain users have access to. However, when any domain user accesses the share, they should only be able to access certain subfolders.

For example, assume the shared folder is \\server\shareme, and it contains subfolders \aaa, \bbb, \ccc, and \ddd. Further assume that there are three domain users: user1, user2, and user3. How can I allow user1 to browse \shareme, but not open any of the subfolders; allow user2 to browse \shareme and also open any of the subfolders; allow user3 to browse \shareme but only open subfolder \aaa?

Any help much appreciated.

Answer:allow access only to certain folders within a share based on user

Do you know how to write scripts at all>?

If not, than you have to right click on the folder and apply permissions to each specified user on the machine or network. It would be easier if you had a spare computer lying around that would act as a server, but its not a necessity. The only downside is that all users on the network need to have had to at least viewed the shared folder at least once.

So I'm having a problem with this laptop when it logs onto its user account in the domain. It seems to hang up on "Applying personal settings" when logging in. I've also noticed that the packet flow on both wireless and ethernet is very slow (About 300 Send/Receive on both connections.)

I started out by removing the network adapter drivers, thinking it might have something to do with them, no change. Then, seeing the low packet flow, tested out the cabling. The cable was fine. So I tried using TCP/IP repair, a little utility that clears the WinSock and some other things. Finally, I tried logging into the user account from a different computer on the domain and everything went fine.

EDT: I also wanted to mention that I've had this laptop running on an outside network and the packet flow is still atrocious. No other computer on the domain mentioned above is experiencing this problem.

So I'm basically out of ideas here. I've already run antivirus on the machine and haven't picked up anything malicious.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!:wave

Answer:"Applying personal settings" hangup

Well, the basic problem is when you log in with an Account Domain in the laptop it goes slowly through the "Applying personal settings" right?

Are you trying this for Wireless or Cable (test both and compare if one is faster than the other).

When you speak about the "packet flow" you mean the Network Transfer is slow right?

That Transfer is via Wireless or Cord Cable.

Hi bcmurray, You could try un-installing Access Connections and just using the Windows wireless tools to scan for wireless networks and connect to yours. Unless you're connecting to multiple *wired* networks, Access Connections just adds unnecessary complexity.

First, please excuse my posting and running away (have to go after this, but will be back tomorrow).
I'm the sole user so far of my Vista SP2 system, and am creating a 2nd (non-admin) user account (1st time I've done it).
No problem, except that it has the default Vista settings, and looks like a lot of work to get to my taste (which the 2nd user shares). (I'd forgotten how many things I'd changed originally!). I haven't started the settings yet, as I'm hoping there's a short cut.
I have some instructions for using the settings one's made in a non-admin user account as a template for further accounts. But is it possible to just duplicate the settings of my own account, rather than doing them all over again?

Whenever I attempt to update or correct mp3 details in Windows Explorer I ALWAYS get this message. This problem is as old as Windows 7 and still no valid explanation or solution. BTW, I refuse to install any type of Apple software ESPECIALLY iTunes as it
rewrites the registry entries for ALL optical drives rendering them unusable to the point they are even removed from Windows Explorer! I am sick and tired of this constant bull coming from Apple and Microsoft. WinXP had no problems whatsoever in this area
so I guess that explains why the supposedly college educated programmers at Microsoft broke it. They seem to excel in that area with ALL of their software and misclassified updates like the barrage of Get WinX crap they constantly claimed was "Important"
when it was anything but. The problem doesn't exist in Win 8, 8.1 or 10 so why in Win 7?

Ok easily done but i will probably not be able to do this until Thursday. Still havent understood what will happen to the rows that are being moved down. I will not renumber them in my code as you havent specified that. I will just move them down as is and renumber the newly inserted rows 9, 10, 11 etc

Hello allAt work we have a big issue that I have got to sort out and I hope some friendly person on this nice forum would like to help me with that. The task I need help with:I have two sheets. Sheet1 and sheet2. In sheet1 I have a lot of rows that are unique. Those rows are at the moment copied to sheet2 by simple =sheet1!$A$2 reference and I would like to keep it that way for the first copy of each row. But I often need more copies of those rows and therefore I need to be able to specify in column AR ect. how many copies of that row that has to be created in sheet2. If I put in the number 4 in row 2 in column AR, then I would like the code to check how many copies of that row there currently is in sheet2. If there arent enough copies of that row, the code should insert new lines and copy row 2 to those new lines. If I then later on delete a row manually in sheet2 or state a new "number-of-copies"-number in sheet1 column AR, then the last inserted row(s) should be deleted, until the number of copies was the right.I have searched this forum and by google for a solution that fits, but I can't find exactly the right code for this, and I havnt been able to modify the code that I have found. Many thanks in advance for your time!/Jacob

Answer:Copy/delete rows based on user input

It looks like you didn't make one of the other changes that needed to be made.In my original code, the indicated instruction was copying the Rows from Sheet1 based on the Row that the scrRw variable was pointed to at the time:
'If Rows are needed, insert them
If insRwNum > 0 Then
For insRw = 1 To insRwNum
Sheets(1).Rows(scrRw).EntireRow.Copy '<--------
Sheets(2).Rows(findRw.Row + 1).Insert
Next
End IfYou changed the code to look at Sheet2, but you didn't change the variable that indicated what Row the code should be copying:
'If Rows are needed, insert them
If insRwNum > 0 Then
For insRw = 1 To insRwNum
Sheets(2).Rows(scrRw).EntireRow.Copy '<-- scrRw needs to be findRw.Row
Sheets(2).Rows(findRw.Row + 1).Insert
Next
End IfTherefore the code was using the row number from Sheet1, not the row number of the value it found on Sheet2. It was copying the values from Sheet2 to Sheet2 like you wanted, but it was copying the values from the wrong Rows. That explains both the messed up order and the wrong number of rows. This code seems to work for me:Sub InsertDelete_Rows()
'Determine Last Row with data in Sheet 1 Column B
lastSrcRw = Sheets(1).Cells(Rows.Count, "B").End(xlUp).Row
'Loop through Sheet 1 Column B in reverse order, assume Header row
For srcRw = lastSrcRw To 2 Step -1
'Initialize Row counter
numRw = 0
'Search Sheet 2 Column B for values, count each occurence
With Sheets(2).Columns(2)
Set findRw = .F... Read more

I have seen many similar questions and great answers, so I am hoping someone can help me. I have a cash burn schedule that I have built and works great, but I would like to automate it even more.I would like to have it add/subtract rows with calculated formulas based on user input. At the top I input the Project Budget in F2 and the Duration in K2. Based on the Duration(K2) I would like the numbered rows beginning Row 4 to expand and contract with formulas and row numbers. Here is the file:Construction Spend.xls

Answer:Insert preformatted rows based on user input from cell

Try this version. If it gives you problems, please post the copy of the workbook you've tried it in, leaving the code in the workbook.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
'Determine if change was made to K2
If Target.Address = "$K$2" Then
'Find last Row with data in Column B
lastRw = Range("B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
'Delete B:E cells, leaving 3 months to use as AutoFill
Range("B7:E" & lastRw).Delete shift:=xlUp
'Get number of months from K2
numMonths = Range("K2")
'AutoFill Columns B:E based on value in K2
Range("B4:E6").AutoFill Destination:=Range("B4:E" & numMonths + 3), _
Type:=xlFillDefault
End If
End Sub

Hi technet-community!

How can I set credentials in WPA2/AES/PEAP scenario for user based authentication in advance by script / import xml profile using netsh?
I've clicked my way through the wireless lan profiles manager a couple of times today and found out that when setting up a WPA2-Enterprise/AES/PEAP profile without setting the credentials in the 802.x1 authentication tab for user based authentication in
advance the user gets prompted for the credentials upon first connection attempt. Works as designed, fine.
However in case I do provide these credentials in advance via aforementioned tab these credentials are also used when signing off and logging on with a different windows user. Does this work as designed? (I hope so - as I would rely on that)

Seems like the credentials are stored in HKCU (if letting windows prompt upon first connection) or HKLM-hive respectively when providing the credentials while editing the profile.
Now what I am really after would be a way to provide the 802.1x user credentials programmatically or by import using netsh. However netsh doesn't seem to do the trick. As the credentials are not included.
Also I have found that netsh's lan context offers the possibility to set eapuserdata while the wlan context doesn't.
Other than that I've only found this article on stackoverflow to be helpful - pointing somewhere..

Hi All,

Can someone help me out in generating Excel macro for Excel sheet enclosed.

Algorithm and conditions ve been explained in the sheet.

User inputs:

Element Left Node Con #1 Right Node Con #2
1 1 5
2 2 4
3 3 4
4 4 5
5 5 6
6 5 6
7 6 7
8 4 8
9 7 8
10 1 2
11 2 3

Outputs:
Loop1 1 5 4 2 1
Loop2 2 4 3 2
Loop3 5 6 5
Loop4 4 8 7 6 5 4

Conditions:
1. Right node of element 1 should be compared with right nodes of all other elements - if matches, get the left node of that element
2. Now, this left node is compared with right nodes of all other elements - if matches, get the left node of that element and this is continued until left node of the current element matches with left node of element 1.

thanks in advance..

Hi,
I am currently using Microsoft Outlook 2010 on a Windows Vista 32 bit home premium platform. I have configured two mail id (all from one sevrice prvider BSNL). I dont have any problem with respect to configuring the outlook 2010 for BSNL web mail. However I want to know if the following stuff is possible to perform in Outlook 2010 and if yes how to do the same:-

1) My windows vista have two profiles both with different passwords (User ID1 Youbaraj, Password ****: User ID2 Anita, Password "a****"). I want to configure my outlook 2010 account based on respective Windows vista user ID; For example if User Id1: Youbaraj logs in to windows vista, he can only open [email protected]***** similary if User ID2: Anita logs in to windows vista, she can only open [email protected]******.

Kindly suggest if this is possible and how to do the same.
