I need a usb to usb cable adapter with thin male end

Question: I need a usb to usb cable adapter with thin male end

Something like this but with a thin male connector. I need it to connect flash drives to a usb port where there's little space available around the usb port because the ports around are busy (happens in MacBook air for example).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running a broadband modem using a male cable connection which fits into a small female connection on the outside wall provided by BT.This works fine.I have now bought a wireless Laptop which is working fine using a seperate wireless aerialconnection. But because I have not got a wireless connection on my original Desktop PC I have to change the small modem cable connection in the outside wall over if I swap from Desktop to Laptop or Vice Versa. I know I could have the Desktop fitted with a wireless fitted inside it,but it would be easier to buy a simple splitter which would have one male connection and 2 female connections so I could leave the Desktop and Wireless permanently connected all the time without having to change over the cables. To repeat I am talking about the small connectors they use on Modems not the big phone connectors which you can buy to split signals from phones. Does anyone sell what I require, help please.

Answer:Can I buy a modem cable with one male & 2 Females

Why not buy a wireless adapter that simply connects to a USB port on your desktop. click here for a whole range of adapters and prices. I use a Netgear adapter and this works perfectly on my dektop PC.

Hey guys. On my raid, I have two 120mm fans that are four pin females. I want to control them on my cooler-masters fan controller. In order to do this, I will need to convert the pins to three pin.

The most cost efficient way is to have the splitter first then the converter. Two cables instead of Three.

The problem I am having is that I cannot for the life of me find a male four pin to a three pin female connector.

Amazon and Ebay has failed me. (only offers 4 pin molex to three pin. Not what I need.)

Where do I find one of these cables?

Answer:Male 4 pin to female 3 pin fan adapter

If you are connecting them to a fan controller the fourth pin does not matter so much.

Its a PWM pin that allows your motherboard to control the speed of the fan. Since you will not be using the motherboard headers you will not need it. You can just offset the connector in the socket.

What model is your fan controller?

I have a blue data SATA cable coming off my main board/motherboard. On the non-motherboard end of the cable it the regular data connection that goes to the hard drive. On this particular cable, next to the hard drive female connector is a male tab. The male tab is rectangular in shape with approximate dimensions of 1/4 inch wide by 1/8 inch thick. The tab is slightly longer in length than the hard drive female connector. Where do I plug this connector in? It appears my hard drives do not have a rectangular female hole in the back of the hard drive to receive this 1/4 by 1/8th inch tab. I have not found any pictures of this kind of connector. To make this blue SATA cable work, it would appear I would have to cut of the 1/4 inch by 18th inch plastic male extension.

Your help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your replies.

Answer:Solved: SATA Data Cable With Rectangular Male Tab??

OK, this cable was designed to go with only on drive, a Seagate. Since I could not use the cable with any other drive, I cut off the rectangular extension. Now I can use the cable with other brands of drives.

I am partially computer literate, but not knowledgeable about the deep things of computers.
However, I am trying to keep as up to date with things as I am able. One thing I am trying to get a handle on is USB-C and USB 3.1. I have read there are many bad quality USB-C cables out there, courtesy of Google engineer Leung Benson and others, but have been trying to get hold of a USB 3.1 cable that I could use.
Having misunderstood exactly how the USB-C fits, I bought these cables by PThink:
click here I have no devices with a USB-C socket! I only have micro-USB socket.
So I trawled the net for some kind of adapter, and found only 4 items. I settled on this by Seenda:
From eBay: "Type C USB-C Female to Micro USB Male Adapter Converter Connector For Huawei LG"
Is there anyone out there who can comment on these cables please?

Answer:Adapter, connector, USB-C female, micro-USB male ?

And of course any comments about the connector/s would also be great!

Hi,

Using USB 3G Dongle and following connector (USB Female to Male Ethernet RJ45 Connector Adapter)

May I access Internet?
Regards
GN Jha

Answer:Internet with USB Female to Male Ethernet RJ45 Connector Adapter

Its depend your airtel dongle speed, but I will suggest if you plug in directly to USB port, because LAN port will be another barrier which also affecting your airtel dongle speed, it not good idea, because if your LAN port having some issue it will
wasting your time to do TS.
I think this device very useful if you using it to connect a USB ADSL modem to a router with an RJ45 socket, not for the female USB. Yes, it can add more USB port option in your PC, but I prefer to use other USB port extension with many usb port
rather than this device
But that's my point of view, its still depend on you

I recently rebuilt a computer for my sister using a KT600-A motherboard. I went to plug-in the monitor and I discovered that the motherboard didn't have an onboard VGA connection, only 2 serial-com 9-pin ports.

My buddy initially built the computer and I'm not sure how he got the video working. Is there some type of adapter out there? I have a PCI Video card installed but of course I need to get to the BIOS through the motherboard to get it recognized.

Question: Thin Sata Cable

Does anyone know where I can find a sata cable where the plug is the thin all the way through? I think the one that I am using now will become unplugged every so often and my computer is getting a BSOD. I do notice that when this happens, the cable is loose and not snapped in like the 3.5" drive I have. I tried to file down the fat part on the cable, but that didn't help much. It is plugged into my SSD that is mounted on a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket.

A link to a cable or ideas to how you got around it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello,

I have a small indoor TV antenna that works very well, and I want to find out if I can set it up in my attic and run the signal to more than one location with a splitter. The coaxial cable that comes out of the antenna is much thinner than standard RG6 (about 1/8" dia.), and I'm not sure if I can attach that thin cable to a splitter and then run RG6 cables out of the splitter.

Do you know what that thin coax is called, and whether it would be better to stick with that kind of cable throughout the cable runs?

Thank you!

I found this on eBay:

eBay.co.uk: USB A Male to IEEE 1394 Firewire 4 Pin Male Converter (item 250139223224 end time 07-Jul-07 16:15:00 BST)

For 99p this seems pretty ridiculous..

I only remember seeing one such cable that offered male to male connection between the two standards, but it was in the region of $50.00 and had a large box midway down the cable. The date of the article was 2004, but surely technology hasn't advanced so much as to allow for this?

That plus the fact that I can't find such an item anywhere outside of eBay (Hong Kong at that).

Anyone know much about the technology to be able to say whether or not it could be done at all, (I'm not certain the article that I mentioned was exactly what I'm claiming).

The reason I'm looking into this is because my laptop has no firewire port, and only an Express Card port, not PCMCIA (for which I bought an adapter without checking, doh!).

I've ordered one of these, by the way. I'm curious to see exactly what I end up with (if anything), and it's not a lot to waste if it comes back as two connectors sticking out of a blob of Blue Tak coloured black with a marker.

Thanks for any input.

James

Answer:Male to Male Firewire to USB?

thats exactly what it is. a converter, just hardware (wires) presumably, not the data stuff, because i know their both completely different. i think a transition between the two standards is impossible personally.

usb has 2 data, and 2 voltage, and firewire, even tho it has many different connectors, has a bare minimum of 4 data, so that connector from ebay would probably fry your camera if you connected, because one of the pins on that connector will be sending voltage down a data line.

Long story short, Lenovo just sent me a replacement HDD for my T-540P. I've used such a USB cable on my work Dell, but I'm retired now and don't have access to that one   I don't know if these cables are generic or not, but if Lenovo doesn't carry them, can someone give me enough specs to find one on Amazon or elsewhere? This one is an example that was sent to me by a friend, as was this one but I'm software not hardware so I'm not sure what the HDD on this particular machine needs. TIA elaine

Hi elaine,

You could probably use either one.

One other option would be to boot a live Linux flash drive (Ubuntu is easy to use) on your T with the old drive still in place and use it copy your files to that or another flash drive.  No need to buy an adapter.

I just happened to brush against the connector of a USB/Parallel port cable where it attaches to my HP Laserjet 4 printer. It was so hot it burned my hand when I tried to disconnect it and it smelled like hot plastic. The connector attached to the computer end was not hot. It seems to me it shouldn't be that hot. If this is not normal, what is causing it - a problem in the computer, the cable itself or the printer. I've had a lot of problems since several powerful electric storms that hit my locale last Saturday. Fried my Ethernet card, but I'm working around that by using an external Ethernet card. Also knocked out my telephone answering machine and my garage door opener. Could the cable problem be related to the other electronics problems?

This is a post to clear up problems i had a few months or even a year ago, i cant remember :P but it is about not being able to pick up a network on a Cable and Wireless USBA10CW3 LAN Mini USB Adapter. (The error was limited or no connectivity without connected or appeared as a constant on/off of the wireless).Anyone that has bought the device knows what great instructions it came with, the whole A4 sheet with an adapter saying install cd, click yes, click no, and other pointless stuff, what it doesnt say is that the adapter is USB2.0 ready, not 1.1. My computer only has USB1.1 and so, the adapter did not work at first, so i thought id try and give some help :PBare in mind ive only been able to do this in Windows XP (because Windows 98 hates me);- Install the device normally doing as the instructions say- Under My Network Connections (from Start Menu or control panel i think)look for the wireless connection- Right Click properties, configure should be somewhere, then its the middle tab, there should be a list- Scroll down to g_modeUSB1.1 or whatever it is, and click enable under the option listYour network should hopefully then work, assuming the WEP/WPA is entered right and its not the router, if ive made a mistake can someone please correct me as im in school atm and so cant check this is rightHope it helps someone :)

My neighbour was given a second-hand computer and asked for my help setting it up.

It is a Dell Optiplex 755 running Win7.

Currently installed graphics is NVidia Quadro FX 3500.

I looked up the service tag and this is not the original card (Original was ATI HD2400XT).

The issue I have is that the FX3500 is an 80W card, with the PCI-E slot having a max of 75W. On booting I get low power warnings from the NVidia card.

The card has a 6 pin PCI-E connection available for the additional power, but the PSU has no PCI-E power cable.

The only free power cables from the PSU are a couple of 15pin SATA cables. I have seen adapter cables for 15pin SATA to 6 pin PCI-E. Are these any good for my situation?

If not, what are the alternatives? New PSU? Different GFX card?

Answer:Power adapter cable for PCI-E

Based on what you just told us, one of those adapter cables should work just fine.

The power cable on my dv7, that plugs into my computer was loose from day 1.  Thinking this may have been normal, I didn't report this to HP.  Eight months later, it eventually burnt out the post that the cable plugs in to.  I didn't notice the condition of the post inside until I went and bought a new power adapter and cable, which at the time cost $60 on sale at Best Buy.  I still would not work, so I contacted HP, FEDEX'd the computer to them, just to have them say that this was not covered by warranty.  I was always led to believe that any part that was defective due to the manufacturer, was under warranty.  I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with HP standing behind their warranty.  If this is not just a remote situation, I don't see how HP could stay in business.  I know that if HP refuses to make some type of adjustment on this part, I will never purchase anything else from them. Colt 38

Answer:HP Pavilion dv7 power adapter cable

I'm in a situation.  I've had nothing but problems with my HP Pavilion DV5000, within a few days of purchasing it, it completely crashed.  Best Buy replaced it, after having the new laptop for a few months I noticed it wasn't charging properly.  About a month I got frustrated because my laptop was about dead so I unplugged the adapter from my computer only to find that the little pin from the ac adapter had broke off INSIDE my computer. I took it to Best Buy being assured it would be fixed since it was still under warranty and not cost me anything, a week later they call quoting me $200.  I called HP and they said to send it to them and they'd fix it.. sent it to them and again after a week of having it they finally contacted me telling me that I am being charged $317 for the repairs and a new AC adapter and that the AC adapter is NOT covered under the limited warranty.  I ask to talk to someone else and was told they can't give out any numbers, they'd have someone contact me.  I received a call yesterday morning explaining it was my fault this happened.. and that they won't cover it and the cost was now $314.  At that time I was also informed that my hard drive needed replacing but they'd cover that.  I asked to speak to someone else and the guy told me he was the highest person to talk to (which was BS).  I hung up and called back the numbers he gave me incase we got disconnected, a woman answered this time saying they ... How would I be able to convert the exact little black 10 pin connection you see in the picture to a normal usb port?

I have a usb pci card that has one internal port on it. So I'd like to connect it that way to make my front ports active once and for all.

Thanks

NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion Card
The NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion Card addresses an issue common to most gaming PCs that is a lack of substantial power and expandability from the front-panel USBs. The NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion Card enhances control and boosts power for front-panel USB devices by connecting them directly to the power supply as opposed to the motherboard, ensuring that there?s always enough power to control your accessories and peripherals. The NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion Card also adds six internal USB ports that are great for powering items that you don't need constant access too like a Bluetooth module or USB wireless router allowing you to free up the external ports for additional accessories.

What it is and Why You Need it:

6 Internal USB expansion
2 External USB expansion
Dedicated power from power supply
Plug and use, no drivers needed

I just purchased a XPS 8910 and two UltraSharp U2417H
I know an elementary question, but i'm confused.  Do i just need some type of displayport cable or DisplayPort to Dual-DisplayPort Adapter?  I don't plan on anymore than 2 monitors.
A direct link to Amazon or Dell cables, would really be appreciated.

Just recently, two weeks before I got my new video adapter: MSI Radeon R9 and as soon as I set up everything, the screen didn't display anything because the new video adapter didn't support my old used vga-vga cable.

Later on, (to be specific, today) I just got the desired DVI-D dual link (Dvi-Dvi) cable and connected it. I turned on the PC and the monitor did not display anything either. I also tried pushing the AUTO button on the monitor and switching to Digital source, thus nothing happened again.

All in all, monitor can't detect any Dvi-Dvi cable connection with my new video adapter and I'm sitting here watching E3 on tablet. Any help, please?

I have one of those IDE to USB cable adapters and it SOMETIMES is possible to mount an IDE drive through the USB port. I have a drive that successfully mounted through the USB port in the past but it won't mount now. I recall that even when it did mount with the adapter it was hit or miss. I would have to plug it into the USB port several times before it was recognized and came up as a USB drive.

Does anyone else have experience mounting IDE drives using a IDE-to-USB cable? Are there specific drivers needed for this? I have heard that this SHOULD work with existing XP drivers....

My qosmio AC adapter cable, keeps unplugging from the main laptop board.
The back plug, from the board to the adapter cable, is not tight enough,
and if i move the laptop a little, it unplugs by it self.
This is a big issue when i'm not using the battery, because it turnes my computer off!

There is a way to fix this? some kind of pin i can use? what can i do?

Please excuse my bad english, i really hope you can Help!

Answer:Qosmio AC adapter cable keep unpluggin

There is definitely problem with power port on the mainboard and it must be checked. Problem is that such issues cannot be solved so easy. The whole notebook must be disassembled and port probably soldered again.

In my opinion best thing you can do is to contact Toshiba service provider and ask for help, especially if notebook has valid warranty. Please don?t do anything alone if you don?t have experience with this stuff. Small mistake and something can be broken or damaged.

I have had a Ethernet cable running directly from my Motorola SBG6580 router/modem combo for a few months. Yesterday, my computer would not recognize that the Ethernet cable was plugged in.  I did various research and tried a few things. I switched out Ethernet cords, tried multiple spots on the modem, updated the BIOS for my motherboard, took the battery out of the motherboard and reset the BIOS that way, I uninstalled the network adapter, then rebooted the computer and re installed it.The LED lights on the modem are all lit, and it functions wirelessly. The LED light on the rear of the LAN connection on the computer is not lit. The computer recognizes Intel(R) PRO/1000 PM Network Connection and stated it is working properly. The LAN port is directly on the motherboard.I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on a Gateway FX530S.I tried to plug an ethernet cord into another device, but it too went unrecognized, leading me to believe it the the modem. Answer:Ethernet adapter not recognizing cable

QuoteI tried to plug an ethernet cord into another device, but it too went unrecognized, leading me to believe it the the modem. I factory reset the modem and the problem persists. I really don't know where else to take this. If this router/modem is leased, you can get a replacement through your ISP. If you own it, you will have to buy a new one.   I lost a router in a similar way, but it wasnt a router/modem combo. I had a Netgear that died in which none of the devices connected to it would uplink even after reset of power as well as reset of the router back to factory. The one thing I did notice though is that the LEDs were not as bright as they use to be, and the router was very warm to the touch. In addition to this, the power adapter for the router was also warmer than it should have been. I replaced it and problem solved! The good thing though is that I had a spare router on hand to switch back to the 10 year old Linksys which didnt have wireless and still had settings for Vonage and port forwarding etc, so I was able to just set this up for a week until I could get my replacement for $20, a D-Link wireless router from newegg. I placed my 10 year old Linksys back in the box in the closet in case I need to use it as an emergency router ever again. We had a bad power outage prior to mine dying. The things you accidentally find out. My computer has seemed quite slow. Every once in a while, I follow the usual advice for speeding things up, but to no avail. I have Comcast cable and use Vonage for my phone service because I pay Vonage only about fifteen dollars a month and Comcast phone has been twice that. Today, I was offered a deal by Comcast that made it competitive with Vonage so I am switching over. I also asked the Comcast tech about my computer speed. He said I should be getting 8.0 Mbps. He asked me if I was using an adapter and when I told him I had the Vonage adapter, he said that would slow my speed down to about 4.0 Mbps. I thought there might be others who would profit from this information.

The original faceplate only had one bt socket. I now need an adaptor to plug into the new adsl socket to convert it to a bt standard phone socket. Otherwise it means a new 10 metre run of RJ45 to RJ11 cable from the router to the master socket which has to pass through two walls. Anyone know of such an adaptor please. Hi Everybody,
I hope this is posted in the correct forum (?) having just joined after getting a Powerbook G4 I need some help.
I have a 35mm film scanner which I used to use with XP via a SCSI card connection to the PC tower (that is the only output from the scanner). Obviously my Powerbook hasn't either the room or compatibilty to connect the scanner to it as designed and so as I no longer have a PC the film scanner is now effectively useless to me. That is until surfing away on ebay I saw some scsi to usb adapter cables. On the face of it these seem the answer to my problems but the ones I can find have the long flat SCSI type connections to them but my SCSI output is to a DB25 type cable and I can only find straight DB25 to USB cables online without any conversion electronics in them (as the other 50 pin ones do). So my 2 questions are:
1/. Would anybody know if there exists a SCSI DB25 to USB cable adapter??
2/. If they do exist do these things work??
I intend to use Vuescan software to talk to the scanner if it helps the answers given (if any!!).
Thanks in advance for any help/advice,
Steve.

In Linux, the battery status says, the battery ist 75% full and it is still loading, while the adapter is connected. If pulling the adapter, the netbook switches off immediately, as if there were no batterie. A new battery is installed in the meantime, but no difference. Wasn't sure if this was supposed to go here or in networking, so I just put it here.

My family recently got a new desktop computer and my parents are putting it in my brothers room, which is near the opposite end of the house where the router and modem is. Should I just tell them to get some retartedly long Ethernet cord, or is there a good enough wireless adapter I could buy? I know direct connections are almost always better, but I don't think there is a store that sells long ethernet cords that stretch across my house, which is pretty big.

Answer:Solved: Ethernet Cable or Wireless Adapter?

It's easy enough to get an Ethernet cable up to 100 meters, and I'd guess that's long enough.
There are many factors that affect wireless reception, including the construction of your dwelling and the hardware you use, so I'd ask a mod to move this to the networking forum where you might get better help.

My problem is this...

We have a Motorola Surfboard SB4200 cable modem. I just got the PS2 network adapter. I can't hook up the computer to the modem and the ps2 to the modem at the same time because there is only one ethernet connection on the modem. However, there is a USB port right below it.

The modem is connected to my computer by a "USB EtherLink" - connecting the Ethernet to this 'Link' thing and then to a USB port on my computer. Would I be able to do the same thing but backwards into the Ps2?

Or what should I do - Im not familiar with routers or anything.

Hi,
So as the subject line states, whenever I troubleshoot a random internet connection shut off, the diagnostic is "Local Cable Connection 2 Adapter is disabled." Weirdest part is that I am connecting via WiFi. I cannot connect via ethernet because my school is cheap like that so I rely solely on WiFi. Any Wifi solutions would be much appreciated. I've had this problem since college freshman year (I am a college junior). It only occurs at school, but the school tried fixing it and "everything" works fine. The internet basically shuts off every hour or so. It's tedious to sign back on and starting this year, I am starting to use a program that requires online internet connectivity for the program to function. Any ideas?

Answer:Local Cable Connection 2 Adapter is disabled????

Also, most of the time, when I type an address into the url bar, the browser says "this webpage is not available" but if I reload the page, it goes to the website the second time. Is this related to the problem above?

a few years ago I followed the guide and made some cable's and adapters.
I'm sure this guide has been mentioned on here many times before so i wont go into much about it but if you haven't seen it you should check it out http://www.ossmann.com/5-in-1.html

I have recently inherited the job of maintaining around 12 3com Baseline 2226-SFP Plus switches.

there is of course no documentation, no one knows the the passwords and there are no console cables.

So i plan on creating a new adapter for my cable set. I found the manual with the pinouts here >> Manual the pin outs are on pages 87 & 88 but i'm unsure of what pinout to use.
theres a pinout for "Console Cable" RJ45 > DB9 modem or console (both with different pinouts) and an RJ45 > DB9 PC-AT Serial Cable

I'm not sure what one i need to make though.

if i need to make the "Console Cable" (I think I do) I need to know if i use the modem or console pinout. in this case i should be able to just crimp a short adapter cable i think

If i need to use the PC-AT Serial Cable pinout i will need to make a new RJ45>DB9 adapter.

any help would be great!

I am assuming I use Console Cable with the Console pinout but if anyone can confirm that for me that would be a big help since I will need it monday and dont have a 3com here to test with.

Answer:5-in-1 network admin's cable - 3com adapter??

To me, it looks like the additional pinouts on 88 are for standard PC cables, and not directly related to the console cable. As for the pinout on 87, it looks like they're providing pinouts to work directly with the serial port (console) or with your existing DB9 cable (modem).

I think you'd be good if you made the RJ45 to DB9 adapter using their "console" pinout.

OK I finally got my bios straight and got my desktop Hdd to boot. Now my problem is when I hook the laptop hdd as slave on same cable (which is 80 conductor) I get an error saying I have to use an 80 conductor ribbon .
The only thing I can figure is the adapter is showing as 40 pin conductor but all the research I have done suggests that it shouldn't matter.

I am using an ultra 100 scsi pci Ide card. I have my cd and dvd drives hooked up on my secondary on the motherboard. and my master Hdd and other slave hooked up on the IDE2 slot of the scsi pci card. for some reason it wont recognize it in the IDE1 slot which it was originally hooked up there in the first place. Before I started this mess.
so my question is first of all am I able to have 3 Hdd at once and if so. can I hook the laptop hdd to the primary IDE1 slot on my mother board. I have already tried to hook it up to the IDE1 slot on the scsi card with a separate 80 conductor ribbon and I get the error I cant use a 40 conductor. HELLO you butthead machine I am using an 80 conductor. This problem has to lie within the 40 to 44 pin adapter.
Or am I screwing something else up???????????

This is Windows XP on an old Dell laptop. Just got new cable router modem and everything is fine except when I unplug USB adapter and plug in cable from modem I get strange message from bottom of screen. Message says badurl.grandstreetinteractive.com.
Is the problem with cable connection with modem or something else?

Answer:Cable connection problem from brighthouse. All ok with wifi usb adapter.

Ths topic can be closed as I found the problem myself. The bad url message is actually just a bogus line totaly meaningless as windows often use it, if it does not know what to do, I guess.

The real cause was that I used the computer on Verizon DSL. Then when I gave it to my friend Julie she connected it to her cable modem from Brighthouse. She could get online just fine with the USB adapter. it seems that with WIFI you can get oline with any Iternet provider, provided you have the security key. But with the cable I had to use the Windows Network Wizard to set up the computer to connect to the Brighthouse Network.

Notebook: HP Pavilion zv5434rs PC series, refurbished
Operating software: XP, ? pro or home
Problem: Can't connect to Internet via broadband
RJ45 Adapter: Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC #2

I have always gotten the message "Network cable not connected" when I've tried to connect this notebook to my existing DSL connection, even when using the network cable that is now connecting my PC to the net to post this message (so, the cable works). I contacted HP's online chat service yesterday about it and received some good help. Unfortunately, it didn't work. One of the things they gave me was an updated driver for the Realtek adapter (above). If that didn't work I was to reset the TCP/IP settings by typing "etsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" in the open field. Before getting offline to try these things, I confirmed with the tech that I was connecting the notebook correctly by inserting the RJ45 plug in the above adapter and the RJ11adapter into the phone jack. He said yes, and I should also check the cable and adapter, too. Well, neither the driver nor the reset worked; I knew the cable was okay but I got new RJ45 and RJ11 plugs. Those did not work, either. While poking around, though, I've noticed in Device Manager that the adapter properties are not picking up the new driver. I installed it correctly last night, and this morning went in and redid it all manually; it all went well, and I rebooted, and the device propert... Read more

Unfortunately, this is a refurbished notebook, and I assumed the seller (Radio Shack) had cleaned it up first. Apparently not; it asked for the administrative password before it would repair the OS. Of course, I didn't have it. The folks at Radio Shack couldn't help me, either.

So I bought a new Dell notebook. :-(

But I suspect, if the problem was the BIOS, that the OS probably got corrupted and likely repairing it, or at worst, reinstalling it would have solved the problem. If that didn't work, I was going to upgrade to XP Professional.

Plug in the USB to Parallel cable into the USB port and Windows will detect the IEEE-1284 device and run the Add New Hardware Wizard to assist you in setting up the new device. Click Next to continue."Please can somehow advise I can fix this so that the USB adapter is workable?Thank you in advance !!

You did not say what OS you have. With Windows XP the installation should be automatic.Maybe you should send it back to the vendor.

My PC doesnt have a parallel port. My printer is not USB-capable. So, I connected an adapter (9-pin plug in one end/25-pin plug other end) to the 9-pin serial port of the PC and plugged the printer cable in the adapter. On connecting, the PC communicated w/the printer because a paper came out with a single black square on top. But I could not get it to print again. I tried printing directly from CMD prompt to LPT1; then tried COM1 and COM2 - No luck. Any suggestions? The printer is a discontinued HP Laserjet 4000 - it may have a serial port, in which case I may go from serial to serial but, is that okay? Thanks for your help.

So my network icon shows the cable and a red X, but I'm posting this from the same computer. I have two adapters, but one is disabled. I have tried disabling the adapter in use, enabling the other, and plugging the cable into that...same problem. I got a different cable out, and still have the same problem.

It's not a functionality problem, but still...it's annoying as hell ^.^

Answer:Icon shows cable unplugged, but I'm posting this. Only one adapter.

The onboard network adapter can be disabled from the BIOS.
It's usually a good idea to disable it from there, if you're not going to use it.

Hello,I am owner of S10-3 laptop and I have problem - cable internet is not working. Adapter in adapter section or HWinfo (software, which shows hardware incomputer) won't show up nor internet working. There is no changes if I put or remove cable. I tried installing driver, but it says it can't find adapter. What can be problem and how can I fix it? Might it be physical problem?

Answer:cable internet (ethernet) won't work or even show up adapter

Hi and welcome,
go in BIOS via F2 press  F9 for default values.. F10 to exit ..

If possible try to boot with a live linux USB  ..If there is cable LAN available... your windows should be restored .

Try an other cable  , cable could be broken

If nothing help , call your local service if your S10-3 is under warranty.

I have been having BSOD problems ever since I bought this computer (almost a year ago)
Originally it would BSOD on File > Open but I worked around that.
Not It BSODs when ever I either boot it up with some type of internet adapter plugged in, or plug some sort of internet adapter after I turned it on. If I plug it in after it has be turned on, it will run for maybe 10-20 min, and then BSOD.
I was unable to retrieve a System Health Report
I received the error:
Error:

This may relate to me being in safe mode but I'm not sure.

Nothing in the compressed file please try this method

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

(This is a desktop computer, not the one I have for the forums. Windows 7 Professional)

I have a wireless adapter (WG112v2 ) which plugs into a USB slot. For some odd reason while plugged in directly I get slow speedtest.net readings, 4Mbps; yet while run through an extension cable of three feet I get speeds around 20Mbps.

Seems like possible interference, but I would think the connection would be spiking rather than a persistent lower speed.

My internal wireless card was giving the same slow speed readings until recently. I did some disabling/enabling and the speeds received are normal again. It does appear to be receiving spikes however while the USB adapter does not.

It gets better...recently (today actually) my connection has been dropping from a game consistently, every minute about, while a direct cat5 connection works fine. Each disconnect seems to disable my entire internet briefly. Is it possible for a non-malicious third party application to cause this?

In the end, I'm really confused. I want to say it's router related but I doubt that is the case given the odd complexity of problems.

PS: I'm using a wireless keyboard and mouse if that matters. Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 and the HP Slim Elite keyboard.

Answer:USB wireless adapter, fast through cable, slow through direct

Hi vpwin7,

You may try changing your router's Wireless Mode, usually it's in Mixed Mode, try a B/G, G or N (if it supports).

I have a couple of systems that only have one type of IDE connector and need to flip each way. One of them is a small system but its one/only IDE port is fullsize... normal size. However I want to put a laptop-type DVD/RW in it that uses the miniature IDE/ATA port.

on two other Dell Opti desktops I have the opposite issue: They only have the small size IDE header, but I have a device that needs a fullsize connector.

Am I looking for an adapter that has male/male on each side, mini & standard? Or is there a cable out there, female on each end, that has fullsize on one and small/micro/mini on the other?

thx for help

Is there a way to revert a currently loaded SCCM thin client back to a HPDM-managed thin client? The quickest way I'm thinking of is to just thumbdrive reimage the device. Can the HPDM agent be placed on the device to establish initial communiications to the HPDM server? Thanks.

Hello.

Awhile back, I got a plethora of rootkits and viruses on my laptop. The computer's functional, but not yet clean. I have 45 hidden objects, which I accidentally tried to put on my desktop via a USB storage unit. My laptop will not connect to a wireless signal. It can read the signal, it thinks it connects, but it never does.

I believe that if I could get the updates for the software that I installed, I could probably finish cleaning my latptop. Now, my computer has a dial-up connecter--no ethernet cable plugin, so I can't plug it into the cable modem. What would you recommend doing to connect the laptop to the Internet, without risking infecting my desktop? Is there a product that converts ethernet to USB? Should I try installing a wireless adapter--which I use for my desktop, and do not want infected?

Thanks!

Answer:Infected PC needing cable or adapter to connect to the Internet--Advice?

Hidden objects do not mean they are infections. If you need help you need to help us help you by running the below.

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.
After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:
If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

My problem is that I Have a wireless adapter hooked onto the end of 2 usb extension cables that have their own power supply, so its not a problem of range. I've had it set up like this for two months, where the wireless adapter was set on the end of the 2 usb extension cables, and it worked just fine.

USB extension cables

I have a Linksys Wireless A/G USB Network Adapter

http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WUSB54G-Wire...r/dp/B00009X6PH

Now suddenly I wake up one morning to find the message "USB Device not recognized." This only happens when I have the wireless adapter plugged into the two cables. I have tried plugging it into each of the different cables seperately, and it wont work on either cable, as well as working off the end of both cables. When I just plug it in straight into the computer it works fine. Any other USB device I plug into these cables works fine, weather it be a webcam etc. Just the combo of my Wireless adapter and my extension cables doesn't work. What do I do? But yeah if I have to buy something so be it, I'm just not sure whats wrong in this case. I've tried the most obvious means of solving the problem, simply restarting the computer, unplugging the device and plugging it back in etc. I've tried reinstalling the drivers on both the cables and the device, nothing seems to work. I don't understand it at all.

Thanks,
Acton

Bought a "USB to Female 25 Parallel Ports Printer Adapter Cable" on eBay to connect the laptop to the HP printer.

After connecting the two cables and plugging in the USB to the notebook, you know when you hear the Windows sound that a new hardware has been found, it makes that sound continuously for like seven times. Obviously something is wrong.

When I attempt to print:

"This document failed to print
click here to open the print queue, and then for assistance, click troubleshooter on the help menu."
Is the parallel port cable bad?

I used a HP CQP 6900P as my private laptop before, now I am using T520 company laptop and trying to find the option to disable the WLAN adapter when connecting a ethernet cable. On my HP I had to enable this feature in the WLAN adatper settings, but I can't find such setting in the T520 WLAN adapter settings. Does anyone know how to activate this setting? Is there a driver I can use that enables this setting? ThanksRobert

Answer:Option to deactivate WLAN adapter when connecting ethernet cable

To do that you need Access Connections.  You can create a profile that will deactivate the WLAN radio when you connect to ethernet.
