AVG Email Scanner - Says its scanning email I dont send

Question: AVG Email Scanner - Says its scanning email I dont send

Hi I noticed on my brothers computer every now and then the above mentioned program pops up. It says its scanning email to a certain address on port 110, which turns out was some marketing company. Another time the address showed some random looking IP address, which was untraceable after a certain number of hops.

The only email client installed is outlook express, which is set to the comcast/adelphia account. I installed sygate to make sure nothing strange is going on, but this bothers me.

Preferred Solution: AVG Email Scanner - Says its scanning email I dont send

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: AVG Email Scanner - Says its scanning email I dont send

Sounds like the PC is infected with a spam bot. Some of those things are now rootkits that hide their files/services. Very nasty.

Hunt it down and destroy it the same way as viruses/trojans/spyware.

I have about 60 documents to scan and send via email to one address, HELP, what in easy terms is the quickest way to do this. We do not have any instructions and have never scanned before. ThanksPat

Answer:Scanning docs to send via email

unless you have a very good OCR program you would be best to get typing, unless you just scan them in as bitmap pictures at a low resolution,

Hello. I have Windows XP with AVG Free Edition installed. I have a router with a firewall and the Windows firewall. I do some P2P file downloads but am at least careful to check what file types I'm downloading (no exes or zips, etc). My computer is slow and sometimes hangs in explorer tasks (taskbar, system tray, windows explorer) but that may or may not be related.I wasn't that worried until my internet started to get WAAAY slow (6Mps/sec where it used to be 56) and then my AVG email scanner started telling me it was scanning something from (or to????) ######-customer.lyse.net. I have Outlook express installed but have never configured it. I use only web-based mail applications. Is it possible that something is running from or via my computer involving some kind of email trigger? I really don't know very much about this.... so I'm sorry if I've missed some obvious stuff.I scanned with Spybot S&D and a full AVG scan in safe mode. They came up with nothing except that kernel32.dll, user32.dll, shell32.dll and ntoskrnl.exe have a status of "change".... then I ran hijackthis (here's my log):Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 3:41:42 PM, on 03/09/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsa... My email client, desktop program PostBox (for Win) has been slowed since I installed BD TS2016 (I'm quite sure this is the reason as it was very fast before, and slowed immediately after...)

I also run WebRoot AV (which does not scan email as per their documentation) and HitmanAlertPro (which could also be affecting my email client, but I uninstalled it to test this somewhat small chance given its just an anti-exploit, and it doesn't seem to have affected it, the client is still slow).

1. I would LIKE BD to scan my email as of course having AV w/o scanning email could in many ways be pointless given email can be a deadly vector for heavy malware.

2. But I don't want my client to be slow. It's not horrible, and I suppose I could tolerate it (basically deleting messages, loading new messages, and the program responsiveness overall, is a bit sluggish compared with its normal instantaneous response)

3. Is there a way to configure email scanning differently? Or should the program NOT be slowing my client noticeably in general, and is this behavior indicative of something being wrong?

I'm sure BD users will be able to comment on whether it slows their email or not given they use a desktop client like Outlook, Postbox, Thunderbird, etc.

Thanks!

In the past I used BD TS exclusively with OutLook as my e-mail client and had no such issues, have you tried, or open to try switching clients to see if it's something about Postbox that BD TS disagrees with ?

Did not find answer when I searched.I have Windows XP Home Edition, SP2, and IE6, SP2.When I go to a web site and click on File, Send page by email or Send link by email, I get the message box entitled Enter Network Password, asking for user name and password.   How can I get it to go right to the Hot Mail message box so I can send?   In Tools, Internet Options, Programs, the Email section shows Hot Mail, so it should go right to Hot Mail.If I change the Internet Options, Programs, Email section to Yahoo Mail, instead of going to my Yahoo mail, I get a message box with the title Microsoft Exchange Setup Wizard, but it should take me to my Yahoo Mail.Anyone know how I can fix these two to work right?   Thanks much.Anna Ruth

Answer:File, send page by email, send link by email

Since you are using web client based e-mail it won't do this automatically...Copy and paste the links into Hotmail and it should work fine...

Answer:Symentec email scanner taking long time to send Excel attachments in MS Outlook 2003

You could turn off your email scanner.

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email:

We have Exchange 2007, and I want to be able to have a message sent to our users anytime someone tries to email them with a message that exceeds are message size restrictions. The sender gets a message bounced to them, but the recipient never gets a message and thus they have no idea if someone is trying to email them or not.

I've searched Google and come up blank, also the Exchange help guide is of no help. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:How to send email to recipient when email is bounced back to sender.

Not sure that you can do that, but if you figure something out post it up here. im interested in finding out if you're able to do that.

When I got BellSouth DSL years ago I had Outlook email account set up with BellSouth as outgoing and old domain as incoming so I could keep my email address from another domain. It worked fine until a year or so ago I had to add another account just for BellSouth and that worked fine.

Within last few weeks emails from my email address (old domain) would not send. I've been through it with ATT tech several times to no avail.

It seems that ATT has trapped me out and does not want me to be able to keep my old email.

There's bound to be a way to set up my email accounts so my outgoing email from my other ISP provider will send through BellSouth without changing my very old and reliable email address.

Also, I recently have acquired my own domain name and I fear emails from that email address will suffer the same fate.

I hope this is not too long, but PLEASE HELP if you can.

Answer:Can't send email using different domain in email address BellSouth trapped me out...

If your BellSouth e-mail service is provided by Yahoo, then you probably need to go through a registration and authentication process for each e-mail address you want to send through a non BellSouth/Yahoo mail server. At least that is what I had to go through as an SBC/ATT DSL customer. They claim that they do the blocking to prevent from originating from users within their network.

Hi guys,
I would like to be able to move an email to a sub folder of my mailbox and get Outlook to send an email to the sender of the email I moved into it. Hope that makes sense.

I found this archived thread http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/439567-outlook-reply-email-when-mail.html which has proved very helpful and I've managed to get it working for me.

I would like it to send more than just a one line email reply but I don't know how, maybe get it to use a text file for the body of the email?

Any help would be great

Thanks

I have a word document that includes a form the user must fill in. I want to create a button that will do all of the following:
1. Update all fields
2. Attach the updated word document to an email
3. Enter an address I have stored in the macro into the To field of the email.

I have one module which does the first part:
Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Dim oStory As Range
For Each oStory In ActiveDocument.StoryRanges
oStory.Fields.Update
If oStory.StoryType <> wdMainTextStory Then
While Not (oStory.NextStoryRange Is Nothing)
Set oStory = oStory.NextStoryRange
oStory.Fields.Update
Wend
End If
Next oStory
Set oStory = Nothing
End Sub

I found that if I add this to the before End Sub it attaches the updated Word document to an email:
Application.Options.SendMailAttach = True 'Or False
ActiveDocument.SendMail

However, I can't figure out how have it put a specific address into the To field of the document.

So I tried another tact. I have the email address as a hyperlink in the document, and set a bookmark at the hyperlink. Then I created a module that will go to the bookmark and open the hyperlink. However, this will not add the document as an attachment:

Sub Open_Hyperlink()
Selection.GoTo What:=wdGoToBookmark, Name:="hyperlink"
With ActiveDocument.Bookmarks
.DefaultSorting = wdSortByName
.ShowHidden = False
End With

Selection.Range.Hyperlinks(1).Follow NewWindow:=False, AddHistory:=True
End Sub

So then I found this bit of coding on the web, and tried imp... Read more

Hi, firstly please bear with me as i'm new to this. I'm trying to setup the email on our virtual server through cpanal and using Thunderbird 3 (although i did try it with Outlook 2007 and the same results.)

Using the given Incoming and Outgoing mail server info given (mail.domain.co.uk) and the mail server username, I get a failed to find error (using both POP3 and IMAP). If I change that too the SSL settings for Incoming / Outgoing (serverusername.miniserver.com), it works and autofinds Connection Security as STARTTLS and finds the ports too. With this I can send emails fine, but I am not getting incoming emails, and I don't know enough about it too see what I'm doing incorrect, any help would be great, thanks.

I posted this on yahoo answers first, but the only response I got was "restart your outloook and try later." *facepalm* Glad to have found a place more dedicated to such problems.

Say I have 10 individual Email recipients that I often send the same Email to. I want to be able to bring all the addresses together into one Group, and send the Email addressed to say "Family" or "Social Team" etc.

Is there a way that I can lump all the common recipients together under one title?

Answer:How do I group common Email addresses together to send all the same Email?

Since your question is in the Windows Live section, I am assuming you are using the Windows Live Mail (POP Version). To add a group email do the following:

1. In Windows Live Mail, click the "contacts" button
2. Click "New"
3. Select "Category"
4. Name the Catergory (such as Family or whatever you want to call the group)
5. Check the email addresses of the list that pops up for those you want in the group.

Now, next time you want to send an email with this program, in the "to" field, simply type the name of the category you just created. All contacts you added to the group will now be sent the email you just wrote.

Uh, oh, my session had timed out.   Anyway, I have Dell Dimension 4700.   This computer was formatted, by a computer tech, about two months ago, and Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition put in.   Before that I had Windows XP Professional.   And before that I had the Home Edition again.Anyway, the File, Send page or link by email would always work.  Say, I had Yahoo Mail in the Tools, Internet Options, Programs, Email Section, when I would go to File, Send page or link, it would always take me right to my Yahoo mail; or if I had Hot Mail in the Email section, it would take me to my Hot Mail. So, do not undersand why I get message boxes now.  Yesterday was the first time I had tried the File, Send, since Home Edition put in.Have to scoot to bed now, but will check sometime tomorrow to see if a reply.   Thank you for your feedback.

Hi Foxy.I tried to bring up your problem on my system but just couldn't.   Regardless of which mail program was shown in the E-mail section my system runs the default mail program. For example, if Yahoo is shown in the E-mail section and Thunderbird is the default mail program my system runs Thunderbird not Yahoo.Perhaps if you set Yahoo as the default mail program your problem will disappear.Which program generates the "message boxes" you refer to

Hi,

I built an application a couple of years ago and the user has been able to bring up a report, choose Send page by email... and email the report to their own customers.

However, this week it stopped working. The report still displays on the page, but when he clicks Send page by email... it brings up an empty email. Well, not completely empty, there are around 4 or 5 lines of whitespaces.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Hello,I got a macro online for sending emails given a condition. It works great if you have 1-2 entries that require email sending based on the condition set. So weird thing just happened. I got 8 emails in a row which were along the lines of 'mailer-daemon return address' or 'out of office' replies meaning I sent emails, but the thing is I didn't. I then went to my sent email folder and no new sent emails show up except for the ones I did send over 3 days ago. This is a gmx.com email address. I then got a new email along with those other 8 from my gmx email to my gmx email but it was listed as being sent on april 8 so it was kind of lower on the page due to read emails being ahead of it. I have absolutely no contacts saved on that account so after looking through the bounced back emails I realized it may have sent emails to everyone I sent an email to since creating the account (a year ago). I even got one on my other email address from myself which I had once sent an email to. The email message is just an url that leads to some chinese website --> url here: sizenha.com/eitw9v.php I apologize in advance if I shouldn't have pasted that url. I use bit defender total internet security 2013 so I don't think I have any malware or spyware. I haven't clicked on any odd links or anything lately so I don't know what would have caused this. I ran malware bytes and super anti spyware to be sure and super anti spyware found a bunch of cookies which it said weren't really threats but it may track some stuff I do so I got rid of it anyway. I am helping a friend with their computer mess. The husband uses Windows Live as his email client and the wife uses direct Road Runner.

They both use the same computer. When the husband tries to send email to his wife's email acct, she never receives it. Yet he can send emails to me and I am a Road Runner email address. So I know that his Windows Live is set up correctly.

His wife's email is working fine directly through Road Runner as she can send and receive emails.

SO... Seems to me the issue has something to do with using the same computer and he never signs out of Windows Live. (I personally use Outlook as I am a business and am not familiar with Windows Live)

He never gets any kind of Undeliverable mail message or anything.

Letter me later .com is a place where you can send scheduled emails. I want to know that there isn't acompany employee reading my stuff or taking my email list for their own use. If i input my kids mothers or my children i won't want someone getting the idea that its ok to google her, follower her on Twitter, IG, facebook etc. Same with my kids. Its dangerous and scares me.

How ever if i can do that from my own computer. Host from my pc and send scheduled emails to different emails then i can set up a pseudo auto responder for a little brother task management alike constant contact or aweber.

In our village in Spain, we have a very dodgy wireless internet access system, run by a company called NijarNet that is very difficult to communicate with - partly a language problem and partly because their customer service is dreadful. I have 13 clients with accounts here (I'm a management agent), and I manage these for them - they are all either wifi or wimax which pick up the signal from various antennae in the area. One such client was having no problem until something called Spamcop blocked his emails. Since then, he is unable to send emails from his 02 account, although he can send from his gmail account with no problem. He can receive on both accounts. O2 says it's not their problem, but that I must talk to the provider (which I have tried to do but they deny it's their problem and can't/won't give any advice on what the problem might be). I reckon it's something fairly simple that I might be able to sort myself, maybe a setting on the router? Can you offer any advice? He's tried it on several different laptops, devices etc with no luck. Any advice would be gratefully received.

WHen texting, I want to forward something to an email address, a photo for instance. I tap the + icon in the 'To" area and go into my contacts. When I open a contact I can not access the email address in the contacts information. I used to be able to do this on my Nokia N8.

Answer:How do I send an email from text using a contacts email?

Email and message apps are different and aren't tied together in WP.Only workaround is to save images or copy text and go to email to send it.

My Email client, MSN Premium (not Hotmail) will not open to write an email when clicking on any website's button labeled "send us an email". Instead this action causes several instances (up to 5) of IE6 to invoke and then the Op Sys (WinME) hangs until I use Ctrl-Alt-Del to end the erroneously opened IE tasks. I thought maybe it was that MSN mail was not my default email client so I used the proceedure to make MSN mail my default instead of OE6 but each time I returned to the options to see if it had changed it still says my default client is OE. Interestingly, if I envoke the MSN explorer and go to my MSN email inbox I can send and receive my email perfectly. This machine has been up and running since last October. I do not know if the problem has always existed or started more recently since I don't often click on "send us email" buttons.
I have three other machines similarly set up and none of them exhibit this problem.
WinMe, MSN Premium, and MSN messenger 6 all are up to date and current.
McAfee AV is on and up to date.
CounterSpy and Spybot are up to date and actively running.
Firefox 1.0.2 is my default browser

Hi I am trying to configure OUTLOOK EXPRESS to send and recieve email from my webiste email address. I have no problem receiving email but cant send any. I have the SMTP server set to smtp.uk.aol.com and had the port number as 25 (default) but when I tried to send email it was being returned by the AOL server's spam filter as being unsolicited spam. I went to the AOL live help and they told me to change the port setting to 587 but now it wont even send the email but gets this error -The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was '[email protected]'. Subject ', Account: 'mail.kitmania.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.uk.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '505 MAIL FROM sender and AUTH username do not match', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 505, Error Number: 0x800CCC78I have been back to live help but they now say they are unable to help me unless I want to use my AOL email address. This is now good to me as I want to keep my AOL email for personal use and use the domain email address for business. I want to use OUTLOOK EXPRESS so I can add the PayPal buttons automatically for invoices.Does anyone know what I can do to get the emails to send?

Answer:send email via aol from my webiste email add

I don't think you can. This is a way of ISPs protecting themselves from non-customer's using their servers to send lots of spam, it is now quite common for ISPs to only allow their own customers (with a vali login) to send mail. All I can suggest is try a web mail service with SMTP (gmail for example) and see if you can do it through them.

Hello - I have a problem with sending email. I have an XP SP2 machine with Symantec Client Firewall and I use Outlook 2000 and Cox as my ISP. I have verified the SMTP and POP3 settings for Outlook and they're OK. I can receive email but can't send it. I do get a "Service Monitor Alert" from Symantec that says, "Symantec Client Firewall has detected one or more services are disabled and should be restarted. Please restart the system to restore the failed services listed below: Symantec Common Client HTTP Proxy." I think it might be an issue with the firewall but am not sure. Question: email scanning

Hi

I'm using zone-alarm firewall and AVG6 antivirus.

Could anyone advise me on the best way to confgure
these two programs for scanning my email?.

Should i disable mail safe in zone-alarm and use AVG
email scan, or disable the AVG scan and use the zone alarm
mail scan.

any advise would be welcome.

Answer:email scanning

Hi, It would be better to use both as these are two different programs.

Zone Alarm is not a virus scanner but a firewall.

Make sure you keep the AVG anti virus updated, it is only as good as it's last update which seems to be about every 14 days. Peace Mal

Hello all..I used to be more active on TF forums but its been a while.

Anyways, I just took a HP computer from my uncle. His IP provider told him to get rid of it because it was messing up everyones Internet service and email clients.

Well i can see kinda whats going on now. I connect it to the internet at my house and like 20 email scan boxes from the Symatec software come up. The messages never get sent tho...but they are tryin to get out. I may be mistaken but it looks as if someone is tryin to use "me" as a email server because they are emails addresses that I have no idea what they are. Should I get rid of Outlook Express? Hi Guys
Does anyone know if the Comodo CIS package scans my incoming emails for nasties. I did use Avast and I am pretty sure that it scanned emails but cant find any info on Comodo
Any help appreciated
Regards
Michael

Answer:Comodo CIS email scanning ????

No it does not.Comodo's philosophy here is that malware has to hit the memory or the hard drive to get activated. And those 2 parts are scanned. All other "scanners" won't add anything to your protection level(s).

So for example if you receive an email with an infected attachment you won't get an alert, if you try to open/save it you will. This reduces resources and yet makes CIS a very fast, light & powerful Suite.

Many of today's anti-virus programs, both paid and free, have active (resident) protection and some within that group also have an option for scanning emails through the AV program.

I guess it's a matter of comfort level (peace-of-mind), but I'm interested to hear what the MajorGeeks universe has to say on the 'necessity' of scanning emails (attachments and email message itself) during Send / Receive for the various email programs (Outlook, OE, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, etc...). To scan or not... why or why not?

Thanks for your response(s).

P.S. - I prefer to use an external program rather than webmail.

P.P.S. - While I'm at it, what about the necessity of scanning archives (such as .zip files)?

Answer:Is Email Scanning Needed?

the 'necessity' of scanning emails (attachments and email message itself) during Send / Receive for the various email programs (Outlook, OE, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, etc...). To scan or not... why or why not?Click to expand...

Personally I believe email scanning is sometimes over hyped in the marketing by some vendors. Basically, a file is a file. When you open an attachment, click on a download or click on a link either in an email or on the internet a good antivirus is going so scan it. Here is a pretty good read on the subject. Why You Don't Need Your Anti-Virus Program to Scan Your E-Mail

Now that's not to say you shouldn't be careful in what you click. If it's suspicious then leave it alone either in an email, on the internet or in an instant messenger. Some malware is designed to trick your antivirus and if you click it there may be no way of stopping the payload.

Again it depends on where the file came from. Use a good trusted antivirus and more important trust what it is telling you. This is a great page to bookmark. It lists the best of the best freeware. Top Freeware Picks

Does AntiVir (free version) scan emails and their attachments? If so, where and how?I have just changed from AVG free anti virus as the May 2006 PC Advisor rates AntiVir to be better. Thanks

Answer:AntiVir - email scanning

No it doesn't....you will need the paid for version to do that. However it does not leave you without protection from email attachment nasties. You will find that any file that opens will be scanned by the real time scanner. So the difference is that instead of routinely scanning an email as it arrives, the free version will only scan any file that attempts to open.....click on an attachment and any virus it contains will be detected by the real time scanner. You could also try Avast which I prefer to both AVG and AntiVir............All three pass the VB100% test.It is only on heuristic scanning where AVG and Avast fall behind AntiVir.

I'm trying to get Thunderbird/AVG to work together in scanning emails that are sent/received but am having problems.

I've posted on the mozillaZine forum but had no luck in resolving the issue yet.

The problem...

I've just installed AVG free & am trying to get the email scanner to work.

It all works happily with yahoo. Sending/receiving/scanning.
It's scans/receives incoming hotmail OK, but I can't send an email - I get a server error trying to connect to 127.0.0.1
It won't send or receive emails thru' gmail. Sending displays a server error and it receives nothing even tho' there are emails to retrieve.

I've gone thru' all the instructions etc. on the AVG website and tried just about every combination of server ports, types of authentication but to no avail.

I'd be grateful for more help anyone can provide.

(By the way, I have 2 yahoo, 1 hotmail & 1 gmail - configured via POP - that I use T'bird for).

Hey.

i got a problem with my outgoing email scan that norton does. its been two days that my norton antivirus 2006, tells me that it is scanning emails that i'm sending , and that happens when my internet is on, and the funny part is that i'm not sending any emails. any suggestions? p.s. i've already updated defenitions for norton and done scans in safe mode and normal and i've already done scans with spybot and ad-aware. thanks for the help that hopefully u'll be giving me.

Answer:Norton outgoing email scanning

IF norton is scanning emails that are being sent, while YOU are not sending emails, then you may have a virus issue. There are viruses running around that circumvent Norton and other anti-virus programs.

I recommend reading and following this link: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

Then post in: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35 to make sure you are virus/spyware/malware free.

Being a computer idiot ... I'd like to ask a stupid question. I have Norton Antivirus 2003 and run "live up-dates" often. When I send a Email and then the "pop-up" comes up that states "scanning message" (10%.. 20%.. 30% and so on)... why, at times, the progress gets to 98 or 99% and hangs up at that point and doesn't complete the scan to 100%? If it never progresses to the 100%... am I correct to assume that it isn't sent? I hope I made my question clear. Thanks, 1stressedguy.

AVG free antivirus normally scans all in/out email messages and places a "virus free" msg text in the incoming ones after scanning them.

I have migrated to a brand new Compaq Presario SR5250NX with vista home premium and am running the latest versions of AVG free and Mozilla Thunderbird.

During email download via Thunderbird on my old win XP system, AVG placed a little progress pop up on the screen and placed the "virus free" text at the end of each incoming message.

On the new vista system, the little popup never shows nor do the "virus free" texts.

The AVG control panel states the "Email Scanner is fully functional" and the properties mentions a plugin/extension of AVG FREE ADDITION MS OUTLOOK EXTENSION being installed.

In the vista properties, Thunderbird is assigned all of the email duties.

It is as if Avg Free doesn't recognize the presence of Thunderbird on the machine.

Is anybody successfully getting Avg free to scan Thunderbird on Vista?

Answer:AVG AV not scanning email on Vista w/Thunderbird

I use AVG Internet Security rather than the free version, but IIRC you need to select an email 'profile' when you install AVG. (I'm sure you can add it later, too-and I'm not sure it's called a 'profile' but I remember that there were several choices, one being Outlook & another called 'Personal' or something like that. Wish I had AVG on this machine to check.)

For Thunderbird, you need to activate the 'Personal' email scanner profile in AVG. Also, make sure T-Bird is set to cooperate with AV programs. I forget where that setting is (don't have T-Bird on this PC either) but it tells T-Bird to store each message in a separate temp file so it can be scanned before adding it to the Inbox. Note that this doesn't affect the email scanner, it just prevents your entire Inbox from being quarantined if something should slip past the email scanner & later be recognized by the real-time scanner.

I am really frustrated so far. I have been on a Mac system forever and decided to get the all- in-one Omni 100 PC. It has been one headache after another but I'm not giving up.
I bought the HP Officejet 6500A printer/scanner/Fax machine. I downloaded it and am trying to scan documents for email. I save/send them as pdf files. I have got everything working-BUT when you try to open the document it gives an error " the selected document can not be opened."

Any help woud be greatly appreciated

Answer:scanning documents to email 6500A

Anyone? I'm really trying everything I know how. and that's not much.
I need to print a document and sign it. Then scan and email.
I have widows 7 that came with the brand new all in one computer.
I got this new all in one 6500 printer/scanner/fax and another laserjet printer.
The whole thing is HP.
The 6500 is the default

Like so many others, the time has come to ditch AVG. AVG8 is slow, resource hungry, incompatible with other security tools, causes my system to reboot (as if someone has hit the restart key on the system unit). The advice I've received from the AVG forum is really just shooting in the dark. So, I've been looking at Avast and Avira. The Avria user manual is not at all clear as to whether it includes email scanning. There are a couple of cursory references to email in general terms, that's all. Can some one clarify whether Avira has a full email scan capability like AVG's?I can't find a user manual at all on the Avast website. Does it have one (e.g. embedded in the install package)? I can see from the website that it does have a generic email scanner though.

Answer:Does Avira AV include email scanning?

Why not just turn the Link Scanner and resident shield off.Avg will run a bit quicker.

Three questions:1/ I have unchecked outgoing email scanning in NAV email options yet it is still scanning om Any ideas?2/I have NIS & NF enabled but my new pc also has something called ICF & ICS. Should both Norton & these latter two be enabled or is this conflict?OS=XP on HP Pavillion.PS Do joysticks come with USB connectors?

Answer:Firewall/Norton email scanning.

1. Question Why do you want this function disabled? It does not slow your system down and it safe guards whom ever your emailing..2. No conflict..3. Yes usb connections are available on joy sticks

I have a situation where someone has 2 email addresses. One of them is now redundant and I have deleted it from the People section. However, when I am set to make a new email to that person and type the first letter of their name, in the pop up window (that you can click on) their old email address still appears.
How do I delete this from that list? Can find no way to do so.

Answer:Outlook Email - Deleting Wrong Email Entry when starting new email

In new email, start typing the address you want to remove. When you have enough characters for auto complete to show it (sometimes one letter is enough), use DOWN ARROW key on keyboard to select the address in question and press DEL key.

That's it.

Since about 2 weeks I noticed that I got a lot of "Failed Delivery" emails. I thought it was someone using my email address as a reply-to and just ignored them.
Then yesterday my provider sent me an email saying they had changed my password because there were too many spam emails coming from my computer. They advised me to run a virus scan and solve the issue.

Now I have Norton 360 so I got the latest version, made sure I ran a scan again, but nothing found apart from some tracking cookies.

My provider sent me the link to the ReadMe on this forum and I did all the steps described there. Still nothing found.

I do know that my provider is right that my email address has been used, becasue since they changed the password I haven't received any "Failed Delivery" emails anymore.
But I don't know what to do to get this email virus off my system.

More information on system:
Window 7 64 bits
MS Office 2010, using Outlook for email.
The affected email address is a domain email which I download through POP into Outlook. Sending is through Outlook and setting of my internet provider.
Anti-virus: Norton 360

Hope anyone has tips on how to solve this.

Answer:Email virus on pc but scanning doesn't show anything

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
nwktst<-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
GRK64 <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
SN64 <-- this will try to run all another scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

Attach the new MGlogs.zip.

Quick question,
I was tinkering in Group Policy and noticed in Defender the option to have Defender scan emails.
I use Outlook so I enabled it.
I had no idea this was even an option with defender and MS does not make it obvious, that got me thinking that maybe MS thinks this should be off.
I am interested in the communities thoughts on this.
Should I turn it back off like I found it or leave it on.
Have any of you used this feature, and if so what was your experience ?
As always thanks for your input.
PeAcE

Answer:Defender Email Scanning Enable or Disable ?

If you use outlook, I can't imagine there being any harm in using it. If anything, it might work better with outlook than it would any email company external of Microsoft services.

After upgrading to the AVG 8.0 paid version, incoming email scanning was clearly not working with Mozilla Thunderbird. This is despite the fact that the AVG security centre said that it was.

A trawl of internet forums led to what seems like the solution. I re-ran the initial AVG 8.0 downloaded installation file. This came up with a dialogue box where "Add or Remove Components" was an option. Having selected this, the next box contained a number of ticked options plus an unticked "Personal email scanner". I ticked this (leaving all other ticks as they were) and let the installation continue. Following a 'successful installation' message, the email scanner now seems to be working okay.

This operation installs a file called avgemc.exe which appears to be the key element. It also provides additional email options within AVG advanced options. I did not have to play with these for Thunderbird, but it appears that may be necessary for some other email programs.

I think it this is an unsatisfactory situation on a number of levels. Firstly AVG should not tell us that email scanning is working when if fact it is not. Secondly they should make installation of this file etc automatic because not everyone used Microsoft email facilities, even if they are the default on the PC. Thirdly, if for some reason this is not viable then AVG should publicise the possible need to install this component clearly and prominently in the upgrade instructions. Finally there sh... Although I've always had the option to use my ISP email account and Outlook Express to read it, I've always loved Hotmail and that's what I've been using for about six years. I'm sure you guys know what Hotmail's up to lately, pulling tricks...deleting mail, taking forever to deliver...you know the drill, to make us want to pay for better service and storage space. Plus I've always wanted to be able to send larger attachments. So I've recently opened my ISP account and am using Outlook Express 6.

I know some things about OE virus-prevention, such as disabling the preview pane, and I have NAV set to scan incoming/outgoing email. I can't tell, though, if Norton is actually doing that, because there's no progress bar (as there is on the outgoing scan), and the tray icon is always there anyway. Anyway, I'd like to know how I should set Norton to respond if a virus is found. Right now, it's set to "Automatically repair the infected file (recommended)". The other options seem more aggressive (quarantine, delete, etc.) and I want to have the best defense. What setting should I put Norton on? Do I want it doing ANYTHING "silently"? ...And is there any way to tell for sure that Norton is actually DOING anything?!

Also, I was reading a post from July, someone said he'd turned off the command to "Send Messages Immediately", to protect people in his address book, and I've done that as w... Read more

I recently installed Norton System Works 2003 in Windows 98. The installation was completed without any problem. When I open Norton Antivirus, I see an error in the Email Scanning Tab it is as follows . d="id_txt_navstats_email_license_expired" class="LineTextUrgent">Inactive
The Script Blocking and the Full System Scan Tabs are shown as " Refreshing".
What does the Error indicate ? I use Outlook Express regularly. Will it harm my system ? How do I solve the problem? I have already re installed the program twice but it shows the same error everytime.

Answer:Email scanning errors in Norton Antivirus 2003

When you re-installed the program, did you uninstall it first? I have done some research and it seems to indicate that a full uninstall, reboot, reinstall may fix the problem. Do you have any other Norton products because you should uninstall and reinstall those too? If you had an old version of SystemWorks or Antivirus, you may need to use a removal tool from Symantec.

This article will tell you how to uninstall NAV (go to bottom section and follow steps under NSW since you installed this as part of Norton System Works):

I have Norton 2003. I noticed that the email scanning and auto protect weren't enabled. I've followed all the directions on the site for determining if norton is loading fully and it is not. I followed their directions on uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. I still have the problem, so I've go to web for help. I see that your forum has been able to assist others with issues similar to this, so i thought that I'd give it a whirl and see what happens.

I use AVG Anti-Virus Professional Edition for my anti-virus software along side the Windows XP built in firewall. For some reason and I can't seem to fix this, everytime I open oulook and check email, the email scanning part of the software seems to hang on certain pop servers and I get a connection error. The only way to fix this is to stop it and restart outlook everytime. AVG tech support has told me to try a few things but nothing seems to work. I was wondering if anybody else out there has had the same issues.
Thanks

Hello all! I hope I chose the right spot to post this issue (as it is to do with my email as well as the firewall). The problem is that my website host is automatically blocking my IP address because (they told me) an old defunct imap email is continually scanning a closed port. This is causing my hosting company to block my IP address and I cannot use my email or access my website.

So I know what the problem is, but I do not know how to fix it...can anyone guide me or offer suggestions about how to locate whatever email is scanning a closed port? (I went into my email and deleted old accounts). Not sure how to locate the source and then how to stop it from continuing to scan.

Thank you so very much in advance to anyone who can help me out! (I would describe myself as a savvy computer user when things are working, but a newbie when techincal issues arise...)

You can use TCPView from Microsoft Sysinternals. It will show you the network connections and the processes that own them.

One of the guys at our small office has this problem. everyone else's is working fine AFAIK.
