Microsoft MN-500 Firmware...

Question: Microsoft MN-500 Firmware...

Well, I decided to take a look at my dad's router settings to see if I could improve them in any way shape or form. And I found out his Firmware was grossly out of date (2003!) so I decided to update the firmware. Well I can't, for the life of me find the MFing firmware update for this thing! I search it on Microsoft's website and all the links lead to their 404 page. A little help pelase?

Preferred Solution: Microsoft MN-500 Firmware...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Microsoft MN-500 Firmware...

I believe microsoft stopped supporting their networking equipment. I have that same router and my firmware is from october of 2003.

No one is really pointing fingers leading to my deciding to lump them all together. I recall when Lumia Amber was announced by Microsoft (and Nokia was not defunct), the official releases didn't take so long to arrive. I was almost prepared to put it to the efficiency of the system; I actually did. Fast forward and it is 2014. First, it was the WP 8.1 release which was to arrive on eagle's wings in January. Cut very long story short, hopes were crushed when Microsoft decided to play Side B of the cassette to disgruntled enthusiasts. Well, I would forgive that delay having seen the grandeur of the 8.1 update. Great work, good stuff. That was 4 months ago, if I didn't lose my count. (And there are only 12 of such months in a year, if anyone needs to be reminded.) Lumia Cyan came much later than could be warranted, especially given the paucity of its content. But again, those who had their hands on the DP wouldn't complain that much. It's mid-August and still no Cyan even though Nokia and Microsoft are now married. Here is my fear: If now that only a sizable number of Lumia models are out there Microsoft is struggling with putting updates on our phones, what will happen three years down the line assuming the current rate of releases of Windows phones?
Perhaps, Satya has already seen this and so made the recent move to rejig the company. I want to believe Microsoft does not need anyone to tell them that the singular greatest thing that the smartphone era ushered in is the magic o... Read more

Answer:OS/Firmware updates, Microsoft and Partners

First off, writing huge posts like this is a great way to prevent ever getting a reply. No one wants to read a post with a bunch of meaningless stuff. Keep your posts short and straight to the point.
I'm not quite sure what your question is. Are you asking what will happen for future updates?
You aren't going to get official answers about that from here. You'll get people speculating and saying what they hope. The answer to your question is that you'll need wait to find out,Are you complaining about the time it's taking to get Cyan?
You should probably give us more information then. Like your phone make/model, your mobile operator, your region, etc. These things take time. The steps are:Microsoft has to make the update (This has been done). The OEM has to create the firmware update for the specific model and country variant and implement any mobile operator features/locks.(Only Applicable to Branded Phones) The mobile operator has to update their apps and ensure the update doesn't break anything or chew through data for no reason on their network.
Step 2 and 3 go back and forth while the mobile operator requests more changes from the OEM and then testing is re-done.Are you asking something else?
Next time write a post that doesn't go off on random tangents every other sentence.

So I have just been chatting with a Microsoft live chat person named Hoody.
Great support, my surface pro 2 would not go into sleep mode or automatically turn off display. After him / her walking me through all the settings (which I had already done) he then told me about the two finger reboot which I did not know about. Hold down the volume down button and the power button until you see the logo appear, then switch on and log in as normal. This fixed the fault.
Whilst discussing with the support person he did inform me that the new firmware is due on January 14th at 2pm EST. I did not ask for this information he just offered it to me.
I am a new Surface Pro 2 user, recently moved away from my loved Playbook thanks to a wonderful present from the wife for Xmas.
So far so good..

I have recently bought a few Microsoft wireless display adapter for my projectors and I really wish that microsoft would roll out a firmware update that would cause them to power down (even if for 30 minutes) after a preset time (that could be set in the
windows 10 app) once the computer disconnects from the adapter. I fall asleep watching the projectors often and really used to like it how they would shut off after the computer disconnected. Now they stay on all night long using power creating heat and sucking
my power down the drain. I have tried a hack by putting a electric timer on the usb adapter than i am powering it on, but i software solution would be much easier.

Is it possible to replace a routers firmware w/ something other than the original firmware to update from wep encryption to wpa encryption and all the other features that these new routers have? If so is this hard to do and is there a big risk or really screwing things up?

Answer:Replacing router Firmware w/ third party Firmware?

nope its easy, and as long as your smart and follow the few basic guildlines very unlikely chance of damaging the router. Biggest suggestion is never do the update via wireless as if you loss signal or what not could loose a bit of data for the router update.

Will this confuse the motherboard bios or Windows 7?

Answer:2 SSD's 2 Different firmware?

I don't think it will give any problems just because of firmwares. After all, it's entirely internal to each device. As long as each one has the proper drivers and the motherboard recognizes each one, they should work.

Hi,I recently bought my first CD burner. It's a Sony Spessa USB Plus CRX100E/X2 drive. I found out that it can't quite burn an entire 80 min/700MB disk, but that there is supposedly a firmware update that fixes it. I downloaded a firmware update program from Sony's website (found here), and flashed the drive with the default firmware file (CDRW0008.BIN), but it didn't seem to do anything except change the driver to an EEPROM driver. I switched back to the original driver, and it was as if I had never done anything...The firmware program came with another BIN file, ZERO.BIN, so I tried flashing that. I guess that was a mistake, because now the drive doesn't work at all - it's recognized as a "non-specific QT processor with JG". I tried changing the driver back to the original again, but this time Windows won't use it. It just says that there are no compatible drivers for the device. I tried to flash the firmware with the program from Sony again, but now it doesn't recognize the drive as being compatible, so it won't flash it.I was hoping to get some support from Sony, but they informed me that I would have to pay more than I paid for the drive in the first place to get support. So, I hope someone here might have an idea of how I can fix it.

Answer:Is there any way to fix this firmware?

That is why the smarter people here do NOT recommend firmware or BIOS updates lightly. You can end up with a doorstop and no recourse. If the product is still under warranty and doesn't do what is advertised, take it back for a return or replacement with something that does.

I heard someone use the word firmware the other day and wondered what the heck it is. After checking out the definition on www.webopedia.com I am still a little confused on the subject. Anyone care to explain this to me? Please?

Answer:firmware?

well i understand it as a piece of software build into hardware. Examples of firmware are: bios's, video bios's etc.

There is a way of upgrading firmware in hardware like DVD burners to make them faster or burn dual layer.

Question: Firmware

I recently purchased an nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card with 512MB For an eight year old Dell Dimension 4600i (P4, 3G HT with a 128 card). As I didn?t think I was getting the full benefit of the new card I checked in BIOS. The maximum it goes to is 256 so I looked the Dell site and saw there were 4 updates, one being video, ok so I downloaded it, and then stopped. I have had a bad experience with firmware (a Plextor drive that refused to work after an update) as a result I am not sure whether to go ahead or not. Ok pathetic but please humour me, do the risks out way the benefits.
Oh, re. the HP on this PC, I noticed it is disabled in BIOS sorry better for a new thread perhaps.
Dave

Answer:Firmware

Now lets see if I understand. You have replaced the the original graphics card with a nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card.
From the Dell web site it only shows one update for the Bios but it does not state what it was for so should not be used.
Although it does have several driver updates for graphics cards these are not for the new card you have installed and should not be used. Go to the nVidia web site for new updated drivers.
From my memory the bios does not indicate how much memory the graphics card uses. I could be wrong.

Question: What is firmware

I have recently had trouble with Genie-Soft backup software. They tell me I need to back up my firmware. I am not sure what they mean by this and their explanation hasn’t helped me.

I have Nero 5.5.10.9 installed on my computer and my CD-RW Burner is Imation. I used the Nero Info tool which showed [1.0] G:\CD-RW CDR 6S52 in the top left of the box and Type: CD-RW Recorder and Firmware Version: CDR 6S52.

I went on to the Nero site which states they will not accept responsibility for any firmware updates.

I haven’t a clue what I’m supposed to do now. It’s taken me ages to get this far and in all honesty, I don’t really know what I am doing. Is the firmware update supposed to be for Nero or Imation. Can anyone help me?

Can anyone tell me what is firmware?

Answer:what is a firmware?

Firmware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
In electronic systems and computing, firmware is a term often used to denote the fixed, usually rather small, programs and/or data structures that internally control various electronic devices. Typical examples of devices containing firmware range from end-user products such as remote controls or calculators, through computer parts and devices like hard disks, keyboards, TFT screens or memory cards, all the way to scientific instrumentation and industrial robotics. Also more complex consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, synthesizers, etc., contain firmware to enable the device's basic operation as well as implementing higher-level functions.

Answer:Firmware for an AP

No; I think you'd have to find it on the net. Search for whatever info you have even just its revision number. You can usually make backups of router/AP configurations, of course, but although the firwmare is sometimes saved along with it, it may not accept being ported across and you'd lose the other AP's settings in so doing.

The codec pack is easy enough- Techspot has what you need here http://www.techspot.com/downloads/775-klite-codec-pack-full.html
Install and then try running the discs.

How does the drive show up in the Device Manager ? No exclamation mark in a yellow triangle?
What DVD's won't it run-commercial (retail) movies, or discs you are attempting to burn ? If the latter, what brand of discs.

If it definitely requires a firmware update then it seem's you're out of luck as there are none as far as I can tell.

I have an external firewire dvd writer that I wanted to flash upgrade, unfortunately the fashing program only works over an IDE interface.Short of removing the drive from the case and connecting the drive to an IDE channel (which would invalidate the warantee)is there any way of flashing over a firewire connection?

Answer:Firmware flashing

Ask yourself three questions......a) will flashing the firmware make any noticeable difference, b) will it cure any problems that I am having, c) do I really need to and will it make my life better. If you answer no to any one then forget it. If it will make a difference save the exe file to the ext HD and run the flash update, it will automatically find the writer as it should do if you run it from the HD. I would turn off your AV assuming that the file is from a reputable source.G

I am thinking of buying a Sony DW-Q30A-B2 DVD burner. I see it's for a good price and the reviews aren't bad. You only get the drive. But when I googled the model I didn't see any manual or firmware information.

I can get along without a manual, but since I don't see any firmware info on the model does that mean its firmware doesn't have to be updated?

Thank you for your time

Question: firmware updates?

I HAVE A MEDION TITANIUM WITH A 2X DVD WRITER, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ON THE WEB FOR BLANK DVD'S FOR THIS AND MOST SITES SELL ONLY 4X AND AVISE PEOPLE WITH 2X WRITERS TO CHECK FOR FIRMWARE UPDATES. WHAT ARE FIRMWARE UPDATES AND IF I FIND ONE FOR MY PC, WILL IT UPDATE IT TO A 4X WRITTER? ANY HELP WOULD BE WELCOME.

Answer:firmware updates?

DVDROMs have a controller in much the same way as a Hard drive or a CD-RW. This controller is run by the firmware (a programme or data stored in non-volatile Memory such as EEPROM). Updating the firmaware is done for various reasons. The DVDROM may not be able to read/write 4X DVDRs properly without an upgrade. It's unlikely (though not impossible) that you'll get 4X speed from a firmware update.A firmware update, if available, will be specifically for your DVDROM and you will have to visit the manufacturer's site to find it.BTW Please don't write in capitals, it's the same as shouting at people.

Hello, on my R61 (7733-3GG) I have BIOS version 2.25 and EC firmware 1.08 factory-installed. On the support pages, I find version 2.27 - 1.08 (7kuj26uc.iso) for download for my model. However, the corresponding readme (7kuj26uc.txt) list only 14.1 inch models without firewire - the 3GG (which has firewire) is missing!!So there is an obvious inconsistency.Does anybody know whether or not 2.27 is a recommended update for the 3GG? RegardsOliver

Hi there
Just wondering if anyone out there has one of these. Today i bought one, already have sent mp3 across and works fine.
Small and jazzy size of an oxo cube.
But on reading manual it says that there is a fm radio option,is this true? the web site is poor,to say the least. Also the supplied disc is a 2.5" affair which wont enter my acer slot drive but on trying elsewhere its only win98drivers.
q-eb.net is the home site

Question: Apple Firmware?

I am looking at a 200gig Hitachi 7K200 drive for my T61, which presently has a  100gig drive of the same model.  The question is, the seller says that the drive has Apple firmware on it, though he believes it will still work in a PC.  My question is, is there in fact such a thing as Apple hard drive firmware as opposed to PC hard drive firmware, and if there is, will a drive so equiped still function in my T61?  The drive in question is an HTS722020K9SA00 and looks to be a very good, very fast drive for my T61, aside from this one question. DrMoose T61 (Seven)  7665-DL7, T7300 2GHz, 2gig, 100gig 7200rpm, nVidia Quatro 128meg, ABGN Wireless, 14.1"WXGA+, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit  (Sweet Machine!) T40 (WALL-E)  2374-JU1, Pentium M 735 1.7GHz, 1gig, 40gig 5400rpm, 32meg ATI Radeon, BG Wireless, 14.1" XGA, now running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.  (Faithful Friend)

I can use it outside of XP (IE I can boot from it) and I can use it right after a fresh XP install (IE I can use it to install all the drivers.)I'm guessing it's an issue with the firmware, but I'm not absolutely sure. This is my first post to this forum so I hope I'm posting in the right place. I have a new Asus cd burner CB-5216A and since I've been getting some write errors etc I decided to install the firmware patch (Asus CB-5216A version1.06) listed on the Asus site. I've downloaded the file but when I run it I receive the message "The drive and firmware file are not match" (exactly that wording). I know that I've downloaded the correct version so I am at a loss as to what the problem could be. I've searched all over, including the Asus site but cannot find any solution. I've even tried downloading this file from another site with the same results. The file that I'm downloading is HHCombo_V106.zip. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Any thoughts on why we have not seen an emergence of memory modules that their sole purpose is to house the operating system? I mean for 200-400 bucks you could get memory modules and have them house operating systems like winxp. Wouldn't a read only memory with firmware update capability be a helluva lot faster then a HD? I mean couldn't then operating system reads be sped up to the Nth degree? Wouldn't this also speed up gaming, applications, etc?

Why haven't we started exploring this possibility? I mean instead of getting a CD you would get 1 or 2 sets of memory that you would plug into your mobo? Of course these would be in addition to the ram you currently have on the mobo.

Thoughts?

Answer:Firmware Memory for O/S's?

I may be really wrong on this, but I thought the reason why it hasn't happened (aside from cost) is the fact that flash memory doesn't last as long, and would eventually degrade under the read/write actions that would be needed.

There has already been some sites explaining how to get XP running on a flash drive, but given the USB interface limitations, the performance has been horrid at best.

Question: Router firmware

I was wondering your opinions on router firmware. My router is a Linksys WRT160Nv3. I purchased a Roku player and started streaming my video to my tv. The router was terrible, and would not go into wireless N mode. Well it would, but my roku, laptop, and phone would not connect to it.

I looked around and installed DD-WRT, now it works great. I heard tomato is good too, so was just looking for feedback. Thanks

Answer:Router firmware

DD-WRT is great, but I would look into powerline adapters if you are streaming video. You get much better throughput and is less of a load on the router.

So I've purchased a DIR-655, and it's come with some ancient firmware factory installed. Now usually I'd just go straight to the latest F/W, but I know that this model wont let you downgrade F/W. I've seen a lot of DIR-655 owners kicking themselves for installing F/W upgrades that have screwed up their router, and I don't want to make the same mistake.

So my question is: What is the latest Firmware for the DIR-655 that is SAFE to install?

I'm hoping to be able to use the HDD/printer USB functions that were added to the later F/W versions, but I can live without them if there is good reson to stay clear of those versions.

Hey, recently Ive had trouble burning DVDs using Samsung TS-H552U, so after reading around I went to update my firmware using their automatic flash download. I downloaded the latest version, which lifted me from US03 to US07. It installs and asks me to restart. I restart, and when it boots back up, my DVD drive is no longer recognized. I have no idea what to do. For firmware to update using their program, it needs to find the drive, and since it isnt showing up, I cant do that. Any ideas?

I have just noticed a reference where a person needs to update his DVD-RW firmware to a more recent version in order to be able to burn a specific type of disk. I think I am right in thinking that the firmware is burned into the device itself, in this case a DVD writer? Anyway assuming I am right, if you were to download a firmware update in the form of a zip file, when you extract it how would the data know where to go? In other words when you normally extract a zip file you are given the option of installing it to a specific part of your hard drive like your download folder for example. Just out of curiosity, would the firmware data know that it has to go on the DVD-RW EPROM chip? I assume it's an EPROM chip?I have never had the need to do this myself but I am intrigued by the method of how it is actually achieved! Anyone out there who has ever updated their firmware and if so is it an easy thing to do or do you have to be technically minded? I appreciate your help.

Answer:Updating CD/DVD ROM firmware

You will need to download not just the firmware update but also a small program to run it.The update run program is usually also on the manufacturers site.I did this for My BTC DVD burner in my old computer.Rember the old adage."IF IT AINT BROKE DONT TRY AND FIX IT".A failed firware uodate can render the equipment useless.

Face it, CD/DVD/BLU-RAY all use firmware on their drives, digital cameras use it, USB uses it, video cards on computers use it; pretty much every different kind of hardware I can think of uses firmware.

Firmware is burned program code and data, so all hardware needs program code and data memory to execute.

Aside from programming for hardware directly, all hardware seems to have burned program code in one way or another.

Mice devices/point and click devices have firmware, keyboards, etc.

Is there any hardware that doesn't use firmware?

Answer:Does all hardware need firmware?

seems that its a pretty nice piece of hardware based on specs but the factory firmware must be hampering it....its brand new and if even two clients get on the connection at once doing minimal things there is noticeable slowdown......

DD-WRT support for the E1 hardware revision seems sketchy but workable....had DD-WRT on the Linksys WRT54G it replaced, it worked ok

Tomato...is that even an option? is it Broadcom only? because this is Atheros based

OpenWRT?

any alternatives to get the best performance from this router? something that is more streamlined? i dont need all those fancy features of even the stock firmware....a basic way to poke ports through it and something to manage QoS per port would be nice.....

any suggestions that will flash to this one?

Question: Firmware GOOF

I'm using another computer that has this error: It's Windows 7.
I went to download a firmware from a site, but when it came time to Open and Save, it read that Windows can't open the firmware and that it first needs a program. The choices are: use Web Service to select for me, or, select a program from a list of installed programs (there were 14 listed). I think I chose Word, but realized right away that was a mistake as it immediately showed a page lists of letters and numbers, like incription. The problem is it won't let me delete or return to start over at the choices again on this computer. Once I get back to the site and click to open the same firmware download, the same page of letters and numbers pops up. I'm on my computer writing to you (also Windows 7) so I am able to stop just short of making the same mistake twice. Question: how do I erase or delete the word program that I put the firmware in? Is there a way to override it?
What should I have used in the list of choices to add this firmware? By the way, the site has instructions on how to install this firmware for Windows 7, but I did not find it until I had already done the damage.
Any help is very appreciated.

Question: WRT54G2 Firmware

Is there any open source firmware for these routers yet? Something like Tomato or DD-WRT? I cant seem to find anything for it so if anyone has any recommendations or advice I would appreciate it.

Its Version 1.5 I believe but Im not positive on that. Ill check when I get home.

Answer:WRT54G2 Firmware

DD-WRT supports the WRT54G2. Its a bit picky and doesn't use a standard method for loading the firmware, but build 13064 runs just fine. Only downside is you are limited to micro due to only 2MB of flash memory.

Question: updating firmware

For some reason the Motorola SB4200's firmware does not agree with America's Army (the game thingermy). I did a search on the AA forums and it seems the friendly folks at Comcast either a) will charge me fifty dollars, b) will not help me at all, or c) will, free of charge, give me a new modem.

So.

Given my experience with Comcast customer service, I'm going to go ahead and guess they won't help me. I found a page that tells me how to update the firmware myself:

but I don't know what the risks of doing this are. A little help, please? Anybody else done this? What are the risks?
