WiFi problem with Toshiba Satellite

Question: WiFi problem with Toshiba Satellite

Have a Toshiba Satellite 2435-S255. Installed a mini WiFi card from Broadcom that's 802.11b/g capable. This came out of another laptop of mine and I know it works and it's hardly been used.

I cannot connect to my WiFi router. I'm confident that I have the antenna corrections installed correctly. I have the switch set to on for WiFi on the side of the laptop. I've checked the Device Manager and the Broadcom Network Adapter is listed and shown as working properly. I do have MAC filtering setup on the router but I did get the MAC off of the mini WiFi and have triple check that it was entered correctly into the router. Using a DLink DI-784 which I've had no problems with my other laptop.

Any ideas? Installing this card in my girlfriends Toshiba so I can get her online.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: WiFi problem with Toshiba Satellite

First thing you should do is turn MAC filtering off and any other security measures you have in place, encryption for instance. You should try the card in another laptop if possible. Are you using the utility that came with the card or XP wireless ocnfig utility? What is happening? No AP when you scan from the client? In other words, give some more details about your experirence other than it isn't working.

You didn't mention which WLAN driver you needed to install. Once you figure that out by looking in Device Manager you can get the driver from the page below.

When the machine appears to be online but the browser doesn't seem to be working it's usually related winsock being corrupted.

To fix the problem copy/paste the following two command "one at a time" into an Elevated Command Prompt then reboot and test to see if the browser works or not.

Code:
netsh winsock reset catalog

Hi Folks,

A colleague passed me his poorly laptop (the Toshiba C660-18C of the title) as he is unable to connect to the internet after the re-installation of Windows 7 HP 32-bit.

Story so far...

His computer was slow - full of junk and stuff - so he asked me if I had a Win 7 disk for him to start again with a clean install.

I provided him with a disk and the re-installation went without a hitch - except now there aren't any drivers for the Ethernet NIC or WiFi and so he is unable to connect by either wired connection or wireless.

I've had a look and can't figure out what the problem is.

Device manager doesn't give any info - nothing like 'Realtek PCIe EE Family Controller' or 'Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC' that appear on my wife's Toshiba C660. Also there is no 'Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter' (not sure if that is needed). There is no description at all of the hardware.

I have found from the Toshiba UK website the following drivers and installed them, but still no joy.
The Network Device ID Registry Setting Tool, Realtek Semiconductor Corporation LAN Driver, Toshiba Wireless LAN Indicator and Toshiba Hardware Setup.

I went with the Realtek drivers as the Toshiba website lists these as 32-bit. The NICs may be Atheros but the only drivers I could find for them were 64-bit (will they still work on a 32-bit OS?) - and these were on Toshiba Australia's support site.

Several websites have links for what seem to be the correct drivers - but t... Read more

I have recently installed an Intel 2200 Wireless Card into my Toshiba Satellite 1135-S1552.

The computer recognizes the hardware, and all the software and drivers are working fine.

The problem is when I try to Enable my Radio Switch. I need to be able to press Fn + F2, but on my Satellite the Fn + F2 switch accesses the Battery Mode.

Does anyone know how I can re-map my keyboard, or enable my Radio Switch???

Please help.

Ted

Answer:Toshiba Satellite 1135-S1552 WiFi Networking Problem

Perhaps you don't have to press Fn+F2?

On my IBM the radio is controlled by Fn-F4.

And you don't have to use the Fn+x combination anyway. The WiFi connection software can be used to turn on/off the radio. If you don't have any special software then disabling the wireless connection will effectively turn off the radio.

I have also tried connecting directly to the modem and the router with no luck. My iMac, iPad, all the families iPhones and two other older laptops run perfectly with this set up. Only my new laptop running Windows 8 is having this problem. As a result I can't update to Windows 8.1.

I'm not sure why the wireless isn't working on your Toshiba L875D.

Toshiba has a special page to help walk you through the upgrade to Windows 8.1. You should use a wired connection for this.

I tried the realtek, the broadcom, and the atheros, and uninstalled each before I tried a new one. I even rermoved the wifi card and reinserted it, and that did nothing. 'Lo Again,

Was wondering if anyone knows offhand if my 13-year-old Toshiba laptop can "take" a wireless card. If it matters, it's an original Pentium 90 running Win'95. The problem is, I don't even know where to begin to look for an upgrade slot/compartment on a laptop (this is my first one, fresh off Ebay).

Also, can Win95 itself even handle wireless networking? If necessary, I have my own copy of Win98 that I can install; will that work? (Unfortunately, I can't put any form/shape of Linux on this thing, as the particular piece of software I require--ExamSoft--only runs on Windows).

TIA...

Answer:Can a Toshiba Satellite 205CDS be upgraded to accept a WiFI card?

Do you have any PCMCIA slots in that machine? If yes then what type?

Do you have an ethernet adapter there? If yes then you could get yourself a small access point.

Before I begin, I appologize if this comes off as abrasive. I am trying my best, but am incredibly frustrated. So, I'm sorry in advance if I come across as bitchy, since thats not what I intend.

I have a Toshiba satellite c855d, with a realtek rtl8188ce wifi adapter, came with win 8, wich I updated to 8.1, then 10, then reverted back to 8.1 with a clean install after the bulk of my drivers not cooperating or being available and the computer crashing or hanging something fierce as a result.

I have had challeneges with this computer and wifi, off and on, since it's purchase. From the (exhaustive, albeit amature (I get computers, but am not formally trained, and am less up-to-date on both resources and troubleshooting techniques than I used to be)) research I've done over the last few years, it would seem that this has been due partially to win 8 being high maintenance when it comes to wifi signal, toshiba being lazy and completely lacking in interest or care for consumers of their product, and my model of realtek wifi adapter badically sucking butt.

However, having to reset my adapter every several hours is hardly normal or acceptable in my mind.

And, while I understand that fluctuations in wifi signals can vary drastically, I dont understand why the network I wish to connect to is only visable when my adapter needs to be reset, and disappears once I do so, nor do I understand this newest excitement, in which no less than 10 networks of varying strengths are visi... One solution would be to replace the WiFi adapter in the Laptop with a good one. This is usually pretty easy to do, but it depends on the laptop: good wifi card

How to replace the WiFi card

You could also try a USB WiFi dongle in place iof the onboard WiFi (also shown in the Google link above).

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.

When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.

Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.

Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

I don't know for sure, but... it sounds like something is wrong with the ac jack.
Those can be replaced easily if you know how to solder, the part will cost less 7 dollars USA wise but shipping to you might be another issue due to your location.

Hello all. This is my first post and may I say that I have enjoyed reading the other posts and replies. My problem is this: I have a Toshiba Satellite A10 laptop that is still under warrenty until January, 2005. For the last week or so, the fan has been making noise like the blades are hitting against something. I realize that this indicates that the fan is going out. I called Toshiba and they said I could send it in to them and they would replace it. Or I could take it to an authorized Toshiba repair center. Herein lies the problem. There are no authorized repair centers within a 100 mile radius of me (per the Toshiba representative) and I am not comfortable sending my laptop in as it has sensitive information concerning my job on it. I asked if he could just send me a new fan and I would replace it and you can guess what his response to that was. He said it would void my warrenty. I told him I didn't care if he would just send the fan. No dice. I have searched everywhere I can think of for a Toshiba fan and I cannot locate one. These are the numbers off of the current fan: 3910A; MCFTS6512M05; GDM610000126. If anyone has any idea where I can get this part I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Yes, I realize that this will void my warrenty, and like I told Toshiba, I don't care. I have too much information on this laptop to lose it because of a heat problem. Thank you in advance for any replies.

My friend and I have the same computer. He's running XP Pro I have XP Home, but besides that same processors, HD, etc. His is having serious running problems. His major difference is that he runs AOL and all their junk, as well as their provided Virus Software, but this should not be slowing his computer soo much compared to mine.

His OE works every other time you try, (very suspicious) his wireless connection says "good" when it's sitting next to the modem, programs and folders and there then gone again. His Virus Software from AOL (McAfee?) doesn't seem to be working (big clue.)

I've just loaded and run AVP Free virus software and Spybot and haven't found any noticible viruses, spyware, but it seems as if there is something in there running background, hidden stuff that is using up his processor and connection access, when no software is reported to be running. It freezes a lot. He has 75% of his HD available & 1 GB RAM. We also just did a clean up and defragment. The clean-up doesn't seem to delete all the temp folder files - is that normal?

Could someone please take a look at this hijack file and let meknow if you see anything telling? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks, sbrenusa

I was working on the computer (Toshiba satellite A 100-232), when it suddenly froze. So I had to close it from the power button. After that it enters the "In touch with tomorrow - Toshiba " screen and then it just goes black forever. I can't enter bios with F2. Heeeelp, please!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite problem..

If you have or can get hold of a boot disk (Hiren's, UBCD, any live Linux distro or even a Windows install disk) you could try booting from it, to check whether it's a hardware failure (HDD could have failed or got disconnected) - assuming it's set up to boot from CD/DVD. Is it definitely F2 for setup? Some Satellites require holding Esc on start, then F1 when you get the Toshiba screen.

Hi, please help,
While sat using the laptop the other night i suddenly had a yellow box appear in the bottom right corner telling me that the USB device could not be recognised. At the time there was no device plugged into any of the ports. I tried to troubleshoot to see what was going on but nothing got resolved so i rebooted. Still happened after restart still with nothing plugged in.
I have tried everything i know to resolve this problem. Checked device manager, all 3 usb devices are saying that they are working correctly and there are no red or yellow marks next to them. I have uninstalled them and rebooted, same problem. Now none of the 3 ports will work at all. Tried various devices in each of them and nothing except for residule power that will turn power lights on if the device has one.
Not sure if this is linked but tried to enter bios just to check settings but what i know to be my password no longer works. I HAVE NOT changed it and nobody else has access to have altered it either. I have tried backdoor passwords and they wont let me in either.
Please help, this is driving me nuts.

Hi

could you describe the difference between the original USB cable and the USB extension cable?

The Notebook and Printer works properly with the original USB cable, but it seems that the USB extension cable is a low-cost one which does not accomplish the technical specifications and the Notebook have a problem with this issue.

For solving the problem in my opinion you could do a BIOS update, look if for your printer is a new driver available and reinstall the USB drivers!

Also you could test if with other USB cables the same problem occurs.

A friends Toshiba Satellite P25-S5092 is failing to boot, Blue Screening with a "c0000218 Registry File Failure" error message. It is pretty clear his registry is messed up. I tried to boot it going to a previously good configuration, but that didn't work. Safe mode, of course, doesn't work either.

I wanted to back up the hard drive before going any further, and loaded an Acronis True Image Boot Disk into the CD/DVD drive. The boot bypassed the CD and attempted to load Windows. I opened Setup and made sure that the CD/DVD drive was the first boot option and tried again. Windows attempted to open. An internet search suggested that perhaps I should hold down the "c" key until the word "Toshiba" appeared on the screen. I did that, and again it was back to Windows.

I have also attempted to boot with a Windows XP Pro disk, Windows XP Pro SP2 Slipstream disk, and a Linux Boot Disk. These all fail and the computer attempts to boot to Windows.

Any suggestions? Thanks .

Hello all, I am brand new on here and need some assistance. I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5843. First off my harddrive took a dump. OK, went bought a new hard drive, installed it and began the restore process on the computer. Everything was good, until it was over 50 percent done loading files when an error appeared. \windows\system32\winload.exe file was missing or corrupt. Everything stopped. I don't have a windows vista disk and that is what it wanted. I try to start over and bam....the dvd drive is no longer being recognized in the system BIOS. It only lists the hard drive. So now I cannot even put in a disc to try and load anything. The drive does actually run. It lights up, spins etc. But the computer brain does not see it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Everyone

I have a Toshiba Satellite P200 and there is a problem with the Display , it works and it does not work .

I have done some checks ,the backlight is on , and it works ok with a second monitor .

The question I really want to ask is , where is the switch or contact on the Lid or body of the Laptop that shuts down the screen when I close the Lid , I have the Laptop stripped down and I can not see anywhere , where there is some sort of contact mechanical or magnetic between the Lid and Palm rest .

I thought that there me have been something where the Lid Latches close but can not see anything around there .
I know there must be something that puts the laptop into Hibernate when I close the Lid , but what and where is the sensor or whatever located .

cheers

This is a problem that I have to admit is completely new to me, hopefully one of you guys may have some experience.
When booting up it stops responding, to continue boot up you just need to move the mousepad or press a key, you may need to do this many times to get it to eventually boot into windows XP. Once it has booted into windows it seems to work fine, the only other problem I have noticed is that 3 keys have stopped working, A,S and Z, which I am sure are unconnected with this problem.
Anyone any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite boot up problem

Do you have a lot of dust, dirt, and hair in the cpu fan, keyboard, etc.
The Satellite is a pretty decent laptop, but the original hard drive seems to fail a bit early... Open the case to see which brand and model of the hard drive, then go to that manufactures web site (unless it is Toshiba) and run the drive fitness test.
As far as I know, the Toshaba drives do not yet have a drive fitness test, but Toshiba is as likely to use Western Digital, Hitachi, Seagate, Samsung, or Fujitsu... as their own.

I know there must be something that puts the laptop into Hibernate when I close the Lid , but what and where is the sensor or whatever located .

cheers

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4817 laptop, I tried to burn some backup data to a dvd-rw disc, it started to burn, but then I received an error saying the burn failed and the disc will be unusable again, then the drive opened. Ever since that, the drive won't detect any DVD's I put in, but CDs it will. Don't think the drive's faulty because I have the laptop for about 6 months, and had absolutely no problems with the drive whatsoever, ever. I have spent like 6 hours looking online for any solutions. The "great" thing is, I recently reinstalled Windows Vista, and haven't installed absolutely none of my programs yet, which are on backup DVDs. And now I'm bored. The drive shows up as "working" in the device manager. And the drive's seen in the My Computer. The drive's name is Pioneer DVD-RW DVR K17A ATA. Any suggestions on what to do, (other than replacement) because my parents had to spend like a $100 not too long ago on a display problem with the same laptop. (I'm having headaches with this laptop.)

Answer:Toshiba Satellite DVD-RW Drive problem...

The drive makes a funny noise, by the way, when trying to read the DvDs, but runs normal when trying to read CDs. I tried every soultion there ever is (through Google).

I am having the same, or a very similar problem, as that discussed in an earlier (closed) thread on this subject. I am trying to help a friend who has a Satellite A15 that went 'dead'. She only uses it to play DVDs, and the first problem she noticed was that a DVD disc would not eject. She got the disc out by using a paperclip in the manual eject pinhole, but the computer would not start up afterwards. With the power pack plugged in, I get a steady green power light and a battery charge status light (solid amber at first and solid green later on after the battery charges). When I press the 'ON' button, the 'ON' light comes on, green and steady, but there are no other signs of life - - - no video, no sound (beep codes or otherwise), no lights on the keyboard (such as the caps lock key), and the CD drive will not eject a disc electrically. After a couple of minutes, the cooling fan comes on and is really noisy. The hard disk checks okay externally. Can anybody advise me how to proceed?? Thanks in advance........GHS

Hi, Folks - I'm New, here...

I recently bought a new Toshiba Satellite P105 pre-loaded with Vista.

We use a proprietary system at work that connects through a VPN and our server would not acknowledge Vista, so I immediately re-formatted and loaded XP Pro.

I managed to get all of my drivers for every device except sound. The PC has a Toshiba V92 modem connected to a high-def audio bus with Harmon Kardon speakers.

I can't seem to find the correct drivers for my sound.

Anyone else experienced this? Any help in solving my delimma?

I've spent hours at Toshiba's support site.

Dave

Answer:Sound Problem- Toshiba Satellite

Hi, Dave, and welcome to TSF!

Have you tried using a generic driver? Go into device manager and see if your audio chipset shows up there with a yellow ! next to it. If it does, run the add new hardware wizard and have it select a driver for it automatically.

I have moved you to Windows XP support.

hello:

i have a toshiba satelite pro 4270 laptop, and am having a few problems with the ram. i bought it off ebay and the ram was listed as 192mb. when i recived the laptop, it only showed up as 64mb. when i went on the laptop the next day, the ram was shown as 192mb, shortly afterwerd i got a bsod, then a "stack dump" error or something of the sort. The day after i decided to install xp, as the ram had shown up as 192mb (which is enough to run xp). I installed xp and it ran very laggy and slow, and when i went to "system" the ram showed up as 64mb.
can any one post a link to a recent SIS Savage I/X driver, because the graphical performance, and the clearness in which xp is displayed is attrocious!

Can anyone give me an answer as to why this is happening, could it be a ram problem or motherboard problem?

Welcome to the forum and sorry for the late reply Right you used the recovery disk when the battery died, what made you choose this course of action as there was no need to wipe the hard drive back to stock? Was it misadventure or had the computer become unstable?

Usually in this situation you would hit F8 and choose last known good configuration or safe mode and correct the problem you had just encountered, try last know good configuration I doubt it will work because you don't have a previous 'good' configuration, you can try safe mode to see if the computer gets into windows but we're unsure what to fix.

Since you have no important files to loose I'd check your recovery disk is clean and run it again as it sounds like something has become corrupt on the reinstall, try twice see if it stalls in the same place.

Failing any of these options something could have been damaged in the "short out" more info on what happened would be helpful.

Can anyone tell me why the battery on this model sometimes cuts out?
I switched on my laptop tonight and got absolutely nothing - black screen and only the fan running.
I swooped battery with my daughter's laptop (same model exactly) and my laptop started normally.
I ask because this is not the first time this has happened.
Anyone know why please and how to correct it? It didn't work with the electricity plugged in either and i thought it should have done so why not?
Many thanks in advance

Model A35-S159. After installing a new battery, and getting a new power supply, sometimes, but not always, the battery discharges while on AC. The AC light stays on while the battery discharges. The battery always recharges when I turn the laptop off.

Sometimes I can turn it on and it won't discharge while on AC. Other times I turn it on and it immediately starts discharging. I can tell because the orange/green charge light doesn't come on. And still other times, it will stay at 100% charged on AC, and then suddenly, for no apparent reason, the charge light goes off and it starts discharging.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Battery Problem

Good Evening petef, the batteries in these machines contain sensitive intelligent circuitry that often need a special charging routine procedure when they are replaced.

This battery circuitry requires to be accepted by the machine when a battery is replaced, this is to realign the battery condition and charge schedule with the actual computer.

It may be worth your while asking Toshiba about this problem directly.

Others may have different ideas.

This old laptop has been a fine machine but my 14 years old nice decided to delete some system files,
(by mistake so she said) and to fix the problems,
she installed a copy of win Me (over w98se) that a friend gave her,
and uninstalled win me install info in add rem,
and now I get lot's of flags, bsods and some programs won't uninstall or open, on top of this problem the driver rescue CD is missing, lost and nowhere to be found. In order for me to fix this problem the only option I've is to fdisk and reinstall w98se,
which I still have the original copy of. Toshiba doesn't have any original utility CD's to give or sell for the past 3 years,
I've visited Toshiba downloads for my laptop model but they have the driver for the hardware: bios, display, modem, sound and onboard mouse to download,
and this enough for doing a clean install, but what I'm really looking for is the original Utility CD's that came with the machine, I've searched all over the web for it but I couldn't find it anywhere. Maybe some of you wiz can help me on this one, there will be a billion of thanks from me for your help

Problem: let me give you an overview of my laptop.... It was very slow until recently I did a system restore ... It is a laptop with fans that rev all the time and has the ability to overheat and shutoff once the laptop gets to about 105 degrees celsius.
My problem today is that I cannot boot the computer past the BIOS ... all the components within the boot menu fail to boot... These consist of in order of my boot settings.

1. P1-Toshiba MK5055GSX

When I clicked to try boot the Realtek Boot Agent an error message came up https://www.dropbox.com/s/1unhqan3mrszmlt/2015-07-19 18.08.14.jpg?dl=0

When I press enter on each of these in the boot menu the tells me the part has failed. Please Help me I would like to fix this issue.

Hi!

I have a TOSHIBA notebook Satellite P10, Windows XP.

It is a new computer, not second hand!
The problem is that it shuts down itself when I connect it to the AC adapter.

The only way I can work is charging it while it is off and then using it while on battery.

The problem appeared after 20 days I bought it.
I sent it to the TOSHIBA service, they updated the BIOS, it worked perfectly for 5 hours (connected to the AC adapter) and then the same problem appeared.

Do you have any suggestions?
I am looking forward to your replies!

Then the laptop decided it wont shut down, it says shutting down, then the screen goes blank... and does nothing.
Waited hours, nothing.

So I format the laptop, and freshly install Windows 7...

Exact same problem, it doesn't sleep or anything just hangs there....
Starting up is also a problem, sometimes it says Windows Loading...

And thats it, nothing after that... I have to keep holding the power button down and trying until it starts

Any help?

Hi! So I've been constantly getting this notifications from Toshiba Tempro saying that I haven't read some messages. It said that I hadn't read two messages (one from April, the other from May), but I had. No matter how many times I opened Tempro and read the messages, it kept saying that I hadn't.

A few days ago, I apparently received another one, and now it says that I have one message to read (so I suppose that it marked the other two as read).

I have trying disabling Toshiba Tempro, but it starts up again every time I restart my laptop. I don't think that this is because the computer (a Satellite P50-C) is not working correctly, because it's only a few months old (I bought it in April).

How do I mark those messages as read?

If this is not possible, how do I permanently disable Toshiba Tempro?

Well, I'm new here and better say " Hello " first!!
My girlfriend dropped her thermos on her laptop (see above) last week and wound up with a black screen and the dreaded "Check cable connection!" PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected device"
So I went into DOS Setup Utility.
Went to "BOOT" and 1.HDD?SSD showed NO harddrive.
Waited patently for a new online purchased harddrive (a little smaller then original...500gb) to arrive and installed it today.
Now the Utility is showing that it recognizes it.
Tried to to use the Toshiba Restore disc we burned upon purchase and also the three cd System discs with zero results.
Went back into the laptop, removed the bottom and checked all connections and cleaned contacts at harddrive, cmos bat., Cd etc.
Entered the Utility again and see:
1. HDD/SSD WDC WD5000BPUT
2. USB Blank
3.ODD MatshitaDVD-Ram
4.LAN Atheros Boot Agent
All of the data on the old harddrive has been saved so we agree to just try to restore this puppy back to factory specs on the new harddrive but obviously it appears more troublesome than just popping in the new unit.
Of course this laptop is out of warrenty and being on a limited budget I hate to tell her to continue throwing more money into it, motherboard...cd reader...etc.
I've read several (hours and hours) threads and suggestions on downloading software uti... Read more

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-1AP that has problems in the touchpad area. I've replaced the touchpad itself and refreshed the drivers but the problem remains.

Sometimes there is no response at all, at other times it just moves the mouse pointer extremely slowly and erratically. When the first problem occurred I attached a USB mouse which worked fine. On subsequent attempts the mouse is not recognised at all, on any port. I've adjusted the sensitivity via control panel (Win7) but there is little difference in behaviour. I'm also aware of the Fn+F9 switch.

I suspect the thing is destined for scrap. Any suggestions as to how to rescue it would be gratefully received.

Thanks for your time,
John.

I bought this machine back in February and it seemed to work OK, but lately I've been having some problems with it. Specifically, the damn thing shuts down with no warning at random times. There's no mention of any problems in the event log, and it does it in Win98SE, Win2k, WinXP & Linux, so it's fairly certain it's a hardware fault.

Initially I thought it was an overheating problem as before it shuts down, the CPU fan is going like the clappers. I sent it back to a repair shop as it was still under warranty and they claim they replaced the main board, however the problem is still there.

I tried installing a temperature monitoring program, but none of the ones I've tried can detect a temp monitoring chip (eg MBM5).

So I'm at my wits end and I'm hoping some kind person can point me in a new direction. What I'd like to do is take the thing apart and check the outlet for the fan isn't blocked as there doesn't seem to be much air coming out from the vent, but the case has a lot of tricky catches that I'm worried I might break the case. I don;t mind invalidating the warranty by opening it, because quite frankly their repair depot is terrible, they didn't repair the fault and they managed to lose the power supply.

Specs -

Celeron 1Ghz
20 Gb Hard Drive
256 Mb Memory

I have a Toshiba A100 Satellite psaa9a-118038 notebook. When I put a CD or DVD into the drive the disk spins up and in many cases it causes the computer to freeze. The only way to get out of this 'locked problem' is to hold the off/on power button to close the computer then restart again. I have taken the notebook into Toshiba for repair 3 times, the CD has been replaced. A problem CD that was copied on their computers then the copy run on mine does boot up and runs without problems. The tech at toshiba suggested my problems could be related to having installed the software for my Lexmark printers, and this has caused my problems. He suggested that the CD rom had picked up some code the then prevented other cds beinag able to load.Has anybody come across this problem before and can you help with a solution. Because this problem has been going on for a number of months I feel like dropping my Toshiba from a high building and never buying another Toshiba, but I may damage the pavement!

Answer:Toshiba A100 Satellite CD/DVD drive problem

I dont see why Lexmark software could be the cause, however have you tried uninstalling the Lexmark software and run ccleaner click here and reboot, then try your cd/dvd drive again.Couple of things to try;Uninstall the drive in Device Manager and reboot, let windows find and install the drive again.Check the drive is set to DMA and not PIO,reset tool click hereReset the drive with this tool from Doug Knox click hereFinally look for and remove any upper and lower filters,Then follow these directions for clearing the Upper/Lower Filters: (might want to print this out)1. Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key ( if Vista Start search or windows+R )2. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or3. clicking the "+" next to it.)4. Expand the "SYSTEM" Key5. Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key6. Expand the "Control" Key7. Expand the "Class" Key8. Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}9. High light this key by left clicking once on it10. On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"11. Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screenReboot your computerA few things to try out,if no joy post back.

I am having a problem with this laptop when i power it up it says password and i cant seem to get past this. i have done extensive research and found that i can either use a backdoor password or a loopback plug through the parrellal port and i have tried pulling the cmos battery and i have struck out any help getting past this would be helpful. I have an extensive knowledge of computer hardware but this has stumped thanks for any help

Answer:Toshiba satellite a45-s121 boot problem

Sounds like the HDD is encrypted with password. To check to see take out the HDD and stick another HDD in their and see what happens. If you still get the prompt then the BIOS has a password lock. You need to go to a Toshiba site and look at the model for CMOS battery to be pull.

A few nights ago my computer froze whilst I was online. When I tried to start it up again, it went straight to a black screen and read 'No bootable device found - Insert boot disk and press any key' I managed to enter BIOS and changed settings to default, saved, and rebooted, but no change, I aslo tried moving the order of th boot up so that LAN was last in the list (I have heard that it may be trying to boot from LAN) but no change either, it just reads 'for atheros pcie ethernet controller v2.0.1.9 (12/15/09)
check cable connection!
pce-m0f : exiting intel pxe rom
no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key'
I have taken my HDD out and put it back in to make sure it wasn't a loose connection, didn't help. It does recognise my HDD, as it is listed as first booting option on boot manager (F12) so it's not dead. Is it possibly faulty? If so do I need a new hard drive? Or is that possibly not the problem, and buying a new hadr drive would be a waste of money?
Help please, thanks in advance :)
Kez

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C650-D Startup Problem

It does recognise my HDD, as it is listed as first booting option on boot manager (F12) so it's not dead.
Not recognising a HDD is fitted, first boot device is just an option.
Your notion of remove and refit drive was a good one, but if machine is not finding it then a good chance it has died.
You need to go into the BIOS and force a search for Hard drives to see if the BIOS can find your drive.
or put he drive in a caddy and attach to another PC to see if that machine can find it.
Do you have a back up of all your data?

I upgraded from Win7Pro to Win8Pro x86 saving all settings.

The trackpad on my laptop is not functioning properly - the cursor jumps to a new location every time I touch the pad.

E.G. if I am dragging the cursor down the page, I draw my index finger down the trackpad as usual - this gets me half-way to where I want to go, so naturally I remove my index finger from the pad, and do the same thing, drawing my finger down the pad again, but the second I touch the track pad the second time the cursor jumps back up to the top of the page instead of staying put.

Why doesn't the cursor stay where it is when I take my finger off of the trackpad and then touch it again? I did not have this problem with Win7 - the driver is up-to-date, no changes there. I tried disabling "center on dialogue box) option for the trackpad but nothing works.

Anyone?

Answer:Trackpad Problem - Toshiba Satellite Laptop

I just answered my own question here - if anyone is interested.

I uninstalled driver and rebooted to have Windows 8 install standard driver - everything worked fine except no scrolling.

I tried a few Synaptics drivers specific to my laptop for Windows 7, but the cursor would freeze after 5 minutes or so.

Installed driver from here: Drivers | Synaptics

I now have full functionality of my trackpad and the driver is stable.

When I press the power button, it shows "no bootable device-Please restart system".

Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart.

1] I changed the Boot order to boot Knoppix but then I get:

"Boot Failure: a proper digital signature was not found. One of the files on the selected boot device was rejected by the secure boot feature"
then the laptop shuts down.

2] I also see the options to go into safe mode but it doesn't work and the system restarts itself.

3] I tried doing a factory recovery by holding down the 0 key as it suggests here:

https://support.toshiba.com/support/viewContentDetail?contentId=2737864
but that does not work with the system restarting itslef.

4] Now I am seeing:

Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete"

If the above no.4 does not work, I am thinking I can try running a chkdsk but how can I do so from outside of windows? BTW, I am now sometimes hearing a "clicking" noise every now and then, I am guessing this is coming from the HDD while the system is trying to repair it?

The repair did not work, it restarted itself after showing another error message then shows now "Diagnosing your pc"

My problem is i can't get through the internet although all of the configuration seems to be correct. I heard that others have the same problem with this laptop model. There might be a special configuration for this computer, you might have encountered the same problem. There are 3 users in our house, 2 of them is using a desktop PC and we are using a Linksys Cable/DSL 4 port router. We are fed-up on this problem. Would appreciate your help. Thanks.

I have Toshiba Satellite M35X-S109. I have used it for over two years now.
Today the laptop screen went blank all of a sudden. I turned off the laptop, and turned it back on, the fan seemed to work only and nothing else happened. I turned it off again and turned it back but the computer doesn?t seem to boot up. It seems as if the fan starts to work when I turn on the laptop and nothing else works. IT might be the mother board which isn?t working. I am not sure what is wrong with the laptop as I am a novice user.
Can anybody lend a hand?
thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M35X-S109 problem!!!

Make sure the laptop is powered off and the AC cord is disconnected from the PC. Remove the battery and leave it out for a couple of minutes. Then hook up the AC adapter power cord (with the battery still removed) and try to turn it on. If it powers up normally, let Windows load completely, then shut down normally (click Start > Turn Off, etc...). Unplug the AC cord again, replace the battery, plug the AC cord back in and try to power up. Give it a shot and post your results (or lack of results as the case may be )

About one and a half year ago i bought the Toshiba Satelite Pro 2100. Every thing worked perfect untill a month ago, then my adapter didn't workt anymore. With a multimeter I found out that it was broken, so I bought a new one (from you guys)

But 2 weeks later the new one was also broken. Then I used my dad's adapter (he has the same notebook)whichs fused in 1 week.

What is going on? Where's the problem. I think it's my battery.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100; battery problem (probably)

Hi

it seems that your AC adapter is damaged by voltage swing.

I can't image that the notebook which has the same voltage like the AC damaged the AC with a voltage swing!

IF you want you can contact a Toshiba Service Partner. They can check the power supply i the notebook and the AC.

Bye Bob

Answer:Toshiba Satellite S2410-303 is not BOOTING problem

Hi uygur,

at first I had thought about your problem that your notebook wants to boot over LAN.

Check the BIOS, could be entered with pushing ESC key when the red TOSHIBA logo is shown, entry about boot order (First Boot Device).

I think on your PC is the First Boot Device setted to LAN.

Try this and keep me posted!

Hi All,

I'm new to the site; just signed up because I need some major help (no pun intended).

I have a Toshiba Satellite C855d, which is using Windows 8 (8.1 now).

The graphics card is an AMD one.

The problem I have is nothing seems to work properly. The computer is slow and suffers slight freezing from time to time, Skype does not work properly, and none of the media players seem to work quite right. Also, none of the games I have run properly (these suffer most).

From what I seem to have read, a lot of programs just don't run properly on Windows 8. I don't know what I can or should do.

Any experience with these issues or advice?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C855d & Windows 8 problem

Something else is going on. It does help if you stated the exact model of the laptop, then just stating that it is the AMD one. There are three different AMD APU/CPU's that Toshiba uses.

Download Speccy and post the URL that it gives after you run the software.

Hello, I've bought a Toshiba Satellite S50-B-15Q and it works fine, except the HDMI port. I cannot connect to a second screen with Windows 10. I've tried the following things;

Checked the cable - Reinstalled drivers (Windows and Intell Graphic), installed the Toshiba HWSetup, tried different kinds of secondary screens, toggled with the Windows P button, adjust settings in the configuration screen, and after different adjustments rebooted the laptop many times, searched the internet..... But nothing so far. What I can see is that the secondary screen flashes (depends on the model, but I also can see the blue or orange LED light) and even my toshiba laptopscreens goedd for a moment to a black screen and then comes back normally, I can even move my mouse to the other screen (I see it disappear from my laptop screen), but the other screen stays black. I also adjusted the Resolution, but nothing. Just a annoying black secondary screen.

Has anyone have the same experience and a solution, because I need to give presentations for my work, and then I need to connect it to a bigger scree or TV.
