Safe to delete/uninstall this Intel Management crap?

Question: Safe to delete/uninstall this Intel Management crap?

Just want to double check. I got a Dell Latitude E5450 laptop a few days ago, and of course there's some stuff pre-installed. One of which is this "Intel Management and Security" or whatever:

(I'm hovering over the icon in the middle, middle row)

It annoys me when there's random software running (especially automatically whenever I boot) just in case I might need it.
I skimmed over the wiki page as well as this page regarding the Intel Active Management Technology. It sounds fancy and all, but as far as I can tell, the only actually useful thing out of all of that mumbo-jumbo is that it can update my Intel drivers when a new one comes out. However, isn't it true that I can just as well accomplish that with the Intel Driver Update Utility, which I can choose to launch, instead of having it run automatically all the time?

In short, this Intel Management thing is useless, right?

Preferred Solution: Safe to delete/uninstall this Intel Management crap?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Safe to delete/uninstall this Intel Management crap?

If you remove it you will have a device without a driver. It won't really affect the OS much. You can stop the app from starting up however.

Hello, I'm running a Lenovo Thinkpad SL 410, and am curious as to if it's ok to get rid of some bloat ware.I'm using PC Decrapifier to get rid of things like Norton, which constantly send pop-ups on start up taking up memory and bogging down the system all together.I don't use any of the features such as thinkvantage toolbox, mainly because it takes 5 minutes to load up and then another 5 minutes to load each page, or even scroll down certain logs. This was happening the day I booted the system so it is not a malware concern. Before I go ahead and uninstall random things, I like to do some research and see if I need it and if it will ruin my laptop with out it. So far I haven't seemed to be able to find anything on getting rid of certain built in software like Lenovo's Thinkvantage Toolbox.A couple others I've been curious about are anything with Lenovo as the Publisher. I'm sure some of them are beneficial to the architecture of the laptop, but is there any I can go without?Looking forward to a response. Thanks, Devin.

Answer:Is it safe to uninstall and delete certain Lenovo software?

Hi Devin,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Think Vantage is a software library preinstalled on a Lenovo ThinkPad computers. It is intended to maximize the business user's experience through the use of easy-to-access utilities that take advantage of the ThinkPad's hardware features.

You can use your ThinkPad without any Think vantage software if you want to. Since Think vantage is a lot of things I?m not sure what software you found that slows down the computer. You can uninstall the software?s that are not required from control panel. I would recommend you to uninstall only if you find it doesn?t serve any of your purposes.

Refer the knowledgebase created by Mark_Lenovo to understand more about Think vantage toolbox.

Hope this provided enough clarity for your query!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Lenovo solutions for small business and Lenovo solutions for small business customizations are loaded on my Thinkcentre E93z AIO. I'm not a small business, I'm a home user - databases, scientific things in addition to the usual e-mail and wordprocessing. Can I safely uninstall the above software? I suspect there a plenty of other things I don't really need - I've spent many years using Windows on a no name locally built PC, with no need for things that a supplier "kindly" thinks I may find useful!

Answer:Is it safe to uninstall and delete certain Lenovo software?

Lenovo Solution Center is just kind of an all-in-one-place way to do initiate various system functions and utilities, including automaticlaly updating drivers/software from the Lenovo download site, running periodic diagnostics, etc.

I would say these are absolutely not critical, and in fact are generally not mandatory.  Really, Lenovo System Update (which can be invoked from Lenovo Solution Center or individually by itself) is the on you might manually run yourself every so often just to see if there's anything newly updated by Lenovo that should be installed.

As to whether it's worth it to actually uninstall any of these Lenovo-provided system service utiltities, I'd say just leave them alone.  Doesn't hurt anything, doesn't really take up any significant disk space, and you never have to use them.  Just ignore them.

Now as to other pre-installed software products provided by Lenovo (e.g. Nitro, Symantec, etc.) my feeling is that none of these is of any value to me (since I have my own alternatives that I install and use).  Furthermore, the versions coming from Lenovo are inevitably "lite" or "trial" versions which require money or subscriptions to actually upgrade to the real version, or to activate beyond 30-day trial period, etc..  So these other products I always uninstall completely, and I then install my own alternatives.  This includes pre-installed MS Office 2013 FREE (which is simply ad-based and annoying) which I ... Hi all.

I was fooled into installing some sofware from Bonzi called Intruder Alert 98. I didnt know it was from this source at the time, and being the recomendation came from a family member (sigh) I happily went along and installed it. Now I learn that its more bonzi rubbish and does completely the opposite to blocking my ports! Hence, I want to be rid of it...

Im running XP home. There is no uninstaller (Of course!!) and nothing in the add/remove progs. There is however an install log, and im sure with a little help from some knowledgable chaps like those that visit here I can delete the appropriate files and edit the registry to get rid of this. Im not a pro user, but I am careful and methodical, (spelcheck) and not completely PC illiterate so how possible is this? It looks pretty straight foward even to me as the log is resonably clear, though im a little uncertain about the wording in some parts with the sys32 files. There seems to be only a couple of reg enties though.
I think OLEAUT32.DLL is a valid winows file? DWSPY32.DLL is nasty?.. I dont know... Please help.

Thanks Paul

Hello

some friends of mine informed me of this article on extremetech.com that informs us about intel patches major flaws in intel management engine.
Intel has acknowledged and patched a new suite of security problems affecting its Intel Management Engine. This subsystem controls many low-level capabilities of the SoC, and can be used for features like remote access and Intel’s Trusted Execution Engine. The company has released a list of 10 vulnerabilities across multiple products that are addressed by recent driver updates. Potentially affected systems include:

6th, 7th & 8th Generation Intel® Core™ Processor Family
Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1200 v5 & v6 Product Family
Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable Family
Intel® Xeon® Processor W Family
Intel® Atom® C3000 Processor Family
Apollo Lake Intel® Atom Processor E3900 series
Apollo Lake Intel® Pentium™
Celeron™ N and J series Processors

That’s Intel’s entire product line dating back to the introduction of Skylake. According to Intel, attackers could impersonate the Intel Management Engine, Server Platform Services, and/or the Trusted Execution Engine, load and execute arbitrary code without the user or OS being aware of it, and destabilize or crash a system altogether.
Intel has released a detection tool so you can check to see if your system is affected by these issues. Updates will have to be issued by firmware vendors, however, so even ... Read more

This is the first time I try using ccleaner, but i'm little worry on what to deleted or using ther auto fix all feature.

All i wanted to do is delete the old program that still left in the registry, or delete anything that help prevent my PC from getting problem later on.

So i wanna ask: which feature is the best and safety to highlight in Ccleaner?

On the left panel of this screenshot, which one is safe to tick? and are the list on the right safe to delete or should I leave them alone for now since my PC isn't giving me any problem?

Answer:Crap Cleaner feature that you used and its safe

Once you click on Fix selected issues... you will be asked "Do you want to backup changes to the registry?" YES

You need to be aware, that this area - registry cleaning. Is critical.
Sometimes all works well, other times Windows won't load again! (so backup registry doesn't even matter)

Repairing/cleaning the registry, on many entries (say more than one!) requires lots of research and what-ifs.

You could just be brave and do the lot. But that's up to you. (it's a 70/30 chance I feel - ie it should be ok)

Normally no one can advise on many registry entry changes. Just researching one area takes a while. CCleaner forum suggests, mark them all, select Repair, then Backup.

Mind you we've all done it once, maybe it's your turn

Ok, here's my interesting situation. Tried to download a game, then all sorts of spyware, adware, malware and probably viruses started downloading to my computer and taking over the memory. Eventually I started getting BSOD, and because the computer wouldn't stay on long enough to run my malware/virus scans, I was forced to do a FACTORY RESET. I went from WIN 10 to the original WIN 7 that the computer came with. Because I had to do a RESET all my stuff is out of date which is expected.

To make a long story short, what was a perfectly running computer before the attempted game download, now I have a computer that freezes, error codes when trying to install windows updates, and my internet crashes. So my question is, even after a Factory Reset, is the virus removed or do you still have to do a virus scan?

(My attempted AVAST virus scan won't even scan through..it gets stuck at "compatibility check").
Also one more question...if your getting BSOD's...then how can you run win 10 in safe mode as the F8 button is disabled?

Answer:Does a FACTORY RESET delete your Virus? Great Computer turns to Crap

Hi Fidel

Some factory resets remove everything, others save stuff and in doing so save the malware.

Myself I would copy the data off the device and I would then do a clean install following this tutorial.

Clean Install Windows 10

Once you are back up scan your data with malwarebytes. Copy it back to system.

When you are fully restored look into and use Macrium Reflect. Saves you in situations like this.

Edit 1:

Since Windows 10 was on your machine it will re-activate once you install.

Hi, i have just uninstalled a 2006 version of Norton on my friend's laptop to replace it with an up to date AVG. Revo uninstaller had a few problems uninstalling all of it but seemed to do most of it but i notice that in C Drive>Program files there is still Norton files/folders there, should i delete these files too?Ps- I ran a Malwarebytes scan and found 120 threats (trojans etc), is this an exceptional amount please?

If you have had problems and cannot be sure all of Norton has gone you can run the Norton Removal Tool click hereAs for the Malware then if the threats are ALL trojans then you need to tighten your security. If they are in the main tracking cookies then that is normal

Gentlemen [and Ladies ?]

I have three questions.

My Operating System is Windows XP Professional SP2.

1. I read the reply to PURE TRAGEDY's post of the 7th April 2005 and immediately uninstalled my AVG7 anti-virus scanner. Norton System Works antivirus and AVG7 antivirus had been running side by side for six or seven months and nothing untoward had happened, but when I read the dire warning in the advice to PURE TRAGEDY, AVG7 got the chop.

I would like to scan with Norton in SAFE MODE but do not know how to do it. When I had Windows 98SE, my computer used to jump into SAFE MODE without me doing anything positive to cause it to do that. I had no idea how to get out of SAFE MODE so a neighbour helped. I cannot remember what he did. My computer was in SAFE MODE for two days on one occasion because I did not dare mess about with it.

So, an explanation, in 'dummy' language, exactly how I can get into SAFE MODE, and scan my computer for viruses with Norton, and how I can get out of it, will be appreciated.

2. I have Norton System Works, Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster. Spyware Guard, and 2-Squared in my computer. The programmes are updated and used every day. Norton detected a virus which AVG7 did not, so I feel happy with the Norton security.

I have considered installing Microsoft's Beta Anti-Spy and malware application but my friends throw up their hands in horror when anything with Beta is mentioned. "Don't do i... Read more

Answer:XP queries - SAFE MODE; BETA, and delete or not delete

I too am a tidy person, to the degree I can be, oldsoldierThe reason you had no untoward results having both Norton & AVG running was probably due to how they were configured to run.If both were set to to scan continously and be auto-updated constantly, then some problems may have surfaced. You may simply delete the Grisoft folder. You need not open any of the files before you do.That folder was essentially for backups to what the AV software did for you.Without it's presence, or in light of your decision not to re-install it, those files in that folder are useless.I should mention I uninstalled Norton in favor of AVG because:1. Norton updates less frequently than AVG, and isn't effective against as many new variants as the Grisoft has been in the last couple of years.2. Norton costs more.3. Norton, when uninstalled, is also messy. It seems to me to require more system resources to do less for me. An opinion based on a couple years of observation, and reading countless HJT logs where it is installed and serious malware problems also co-exist. 4. Norton offers several products. I've had most installed at one time or another.I bought the System Works Suite in 2002. It deeply embeds into winXP when you use all the features of it, and slows the PC down considerably doing so. If you do not use a similar product, then you will not have similar experiences. The anti-virus aspect of it alone did prove IMHO to be marginally adequate.Microsoft Beta 1 is not anti-vir... Your thoughts please

Answer:Intel Management Engine Software ?

Typically, the wisdom on the forum is - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unless you know that this update is something you need or will give you some sort of additional functionality that you want, don't do it. There is, IMHO, absolutely no point in updating just for updating's sake. It's all too easy to screw up something that was working just fine. Others may have a different opinion.

Hello,      I have a Lenovo M58p SFF. Basically I was messing around with the settings in Intel Management Engine and managed to disable ME State Control. After the system restarted, my cpu fan is spinning at full throttle and is quite lout. My Issue is, I cannot re-enter Management Engine, during the BIOS splash screen I have the option to press ctrl+P to enter Management engine, but the screen just goes blank for a few moments and continues to boot to windows. I've tried resetting bios;reset cmos;pull cmos battery and power cable; using cmos clear jumper;Flashing bios to the latest version; and nothing seems to work. So basically, what happened? Why can't I re-enter Intel Management Engine? This is my MoBo according to Speccy Motherboard  Manufacturer LENOVO  Model LENOVO (LGA 775)  Version ThinkCentre M58p  Chipset Vendor Intel  Chipset Model Q45/Q43  Chipset Revision 03  Southbridge Vendor Intel  Southbridge Model 82801JB (ICH10)  Southbridge Revision 02  BIOS  Brand LENOVO  Version 5CKT77AUS  Date 5/7/2012 Thanks for reading, any help is much appreciated.

I ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Successful:

CPU - Tick
RAM - Tick
Hard Drive Soace - Tick
Windows Aero - Tick

Update required:

Intel ® Management Engine Interface: "Action Required" - Update required to make this device compatible with Windows 7. Go online for the latest driver from the manufactures website.

Now, how on earth do I know what driver I need to download for the device???

It also tells me I need to do a custom installation and then reinstall applications, does this mean "Clean Install"? I want to do CLEAN anyway.

Answer:Intel (R) Management Engine Interface

My two cents on this is:Do a clean install. There are so many potential and unforseen issues that you could run into if you "upgrade" to Win 7, no matter what OS you jump up from. Back up all of your data, personal stuff and important information and start from scratch.Get the drivers first that you know you will need for Win 7 before you get to the install. Especially drivers for you Network Interface Card (NIC).That's just my thoughts on the matter. Best of luck.

Is there an (easy) way to find out if our ThinkCentres do support Intel's AMT technology? As far as I know, the only way to find out is to boot the system into the BIOS and see if there's an option to enable AMT. Not very practical as I would need to visit every desktop and most of them are located at remote sites. Unless of course, I can use AMT   Maybe I can identify the Intel AMT capabilities by looking at:the chipset used in the systemthe CPU modelthe Lenovo product number like 8137-7HGIn short, how can I know if a specific ThinkCentre does support Intel Active Management?

Ladies and Gents,
I have an XPS 15 9550 , and i am updating the drivers through the DELL site.
the Detect drivers action showed me that 3 drivers needs to be installed.
Chipset |Intel(R) Management Engine Components Installer
Chipset |Intel Serial IO Driver
BIOS |Dell XPS 15 9550 1.2.16 System BIOS
I clicked the download and install and the action was completed successfully.
But when i return to the site to verify the drivers, it shows again the same three drivers in the list.
Last thing i did was to manually download and install the Intel Management Engine Components, and install it manually.
the result was an interruption of the install
"the program ended prematurely because of the following error: Another version of this product is already installed... "
i tried uninstall / reinstall.. .repair.. but wasn't successful.

Intel Management Engine Interface for 64-bit Windows
has anybody really determined if this can be uninstalled and/or seriously needed. I use my computer essentially for browsing internet and playing Games..
Do I really need Intel sending information about my computer over the internet and why keep this installed?

I can update my intel with their auto Update program if it's just for that..

Aren't there thousands of people that don't have Intel Management installed and should they install it?

thanks.

Answer:So Whose figured out Intel Management Interface?

I always install it, because I was under the impression it has better drivers for my AHCI controllers.

Answer:Intel(R) Management Engine Interface

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to try manually installing the driver as follows. Go to the device manager and click on the problem IMEI device. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file (assuming you ran sp63661). That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp63661. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way.

Hi, The Power Management driver seems mess up how the dock and tablet charges.  I noticed that my dock would be completely dead some times and not charge after i reset the battery and sometimes the tablet would not charge past 50%.  I found that uninstalling the power management driver fixed the issue but my problem is that it randomlly pops up after a day and I have to uninstall it again.  Does anyone else have this issue or know what is installing the driver back onto my system?

Answer:Lenovo Helix Power Management keeps reinstalling after I uninstall it

You probably uninstall your driver from the Devices Manager. But that doesn't uninstall it at all. You should do it from Control Panel > Uninstall a program (or something like that, I have a french Windows 7).

When I turned on my laptop this morning, it initially booted fine. While reading my email, the system froze up, for some unknown reason. I turned it off and turned it back on. I got an error message that the atchksrv did not open after 60 seconds. I tried to close this error screen, but nothing happens. The cursor will not work when I click it. This is the intel active management technology status. I can only open the system in safe mode. I have run scan's with malwarebytes; microsoft essentials; avg2012. Nothing. Help! How do I fix this problem?

Answer:Intel Active Management Technology Status

Hello and welcome to bleeping computer.
The first problem you have is running two antivirus software apps uninstall avg2012 then reboot your machine and see if it starts in normal mode then
Download CCLEANER the link below:

http://www.piriform....leaner/download

Just DONT us the registry cleaner function of CCleaner unless you know what you are deleting exactly!!

Then open ccleaner hit the tools button then startup second one down below uninstall then in the bottom right hand corner of ccleaner hit save to text file.Save it to your desktop and post the startup.txt here in your next reply. Also hit start run then type msconfig then hit the services tab then hit put a check mark in hide microsoft services what is listed there, after hiding microsoft services?

If it doesnt start in normal mode then follow the above instructions in safe mode with networking.

Hello all,
I have DELL Inspiron 15R 5520 with freshly installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 but some annoying issues began to occur after cold booting my laptop :
1- 15 seconds delay between the power up lights turn on and the DELL BIOS logo.
2- A yellow mark appears next to Intel Management Engine Interface Driver with Error Code 10 ( this device could not start ), but this problem disappears when i restart my laptop and comes back after a cold boot.
I tried many things to solve this problem but none of them worked for me :
1- I tried a clean install of Windows and installing all drivers in correct order > didn't work.
2- I tried upgrading to latest BIOS and resetting CMOS Battery > same problem.
3- I tried uninstalling IMEI driver and reinstalling it again after a restart > nothing works.
A friend of mine told me that there may be a problem with Intel Management Firmware and this could probably cause that slow BIOS startup and the problem of IMEI driver in device manager.
So, can anyone suggest an effective way to fix that Intel Management Engine firmware corruption ?
And if its not the firmware...what could cause that BIOS delay ? Could the MB be faulty or something ?
I'm waiting for your replies and thanks in advance.

As per subject, I don't see any options enable intel AMT in the bios, and when i log into intel Management Engine I don't have intel AMT settings either, instead I have Intel Smart Business Technology in place of AMT. I went in and i only have 2 options, nothing much to configure here. Is this intended for W540? What does intel SBT does?

Answer:W540 no Intel Active Management Technology?

Hi, Edmund_Tan,  Quoting from Intel's site: "Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) is hardware-based technology for remotely managing and securing PCs out-of-band. Currently, Intel AMT is available in desktops, servers, ultrabooks, tablets, and laptops with Intel Core vPro processor family, including Intel Core i3, i5, i7, and Intel Xeon processor E3-1200 product family." I did some research, and found out that vPro is not supported by the following Intel processors avaiable in W540 models:i5-4200M, i7-4700MQ.  If you have one of these, you probably won't find any options for IAMT in the BIOS.I myself bought the model with i7-4800MQ and can find options for IAMT I the BIOS under: Config  > Intel (R) AMT.   Hope this helps

In Device Manager I have an ! against Intel Management Engine Interface.

In Driver Properties it says:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function.

I have also seen errors related to this in a recent Perfmon report.

I have tried to update the driver (right click on it in Device Manager, check on Dell website, check with Intel Driver Update Utility) but all these methods say I have the up to date one.

On my other Dell laptop (same spec) the same version of this is running without a problem. On that laptop there was an update in mid November that I don't have on the problem laptop. I have a feeling that I did a System Restore back around that time that affected a few things, and this may have been one of them. I thought I had kept a screenshot of this, but must have deleted it so I can't be sure.

Question is: how can I get this working again?

Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling it?

If so, what is the best (and most foolproof) way to do this? Can I do it from the right click options in Device Manager, for example? I'm a bit concerned that, if I uninstall it I may not get the correct version back again.

Answer:Intel Management Engine Interface Problem

(The issue I'm having also occurs when I tried the same with Win 7)When I turn off the PC by Windows> Shut down, the system shuts off and the screen becomes dark, but the PC stays on and stops reacting, the only way to turn it off is by pushing the physical button on the PC and then the PC will power off but will automatically start again and I need to push the button again to power it off and only then it will stay off.The PC will start without issues.I found posts that this behaviour could be caused by the Intel Management Engine Interface, which funny enough, has an yellow admiration symbol in Device Management. It also gives a message which says that the device can not be started (Code 10).The driver 6.0.0.1179 seems to be the correct one, though. After deleting it will be reinstalled by Windows so I can not get rid of it. Lenovo also states that this is the correct driver.I tried ideas like disconnecting battery and CMOS battery, downgrading BIOS from 1.39 to 1.35 but nothing helped.I also tried the Intel Driver Update Utility. It suggested installing a file Intel Chipset Device Software, but that installation failed with 'unknown error'So I'm running out of ideas and any suggestion and any help is very much appreciated!Thinkpad L412Intel Core i3 CPU M370 @ 2.40GHzWindows 10 Pro x64 (Creators Update)Intel Managemen... Hi
I'm having a problem with the driver for Intel(R) Management Interface.

My machine is HP Pavilion p6320uk, Core i5 650, Win 7 64 bit, 6GB.

Error message:

Driver problem was detected on Device "Intel(R) Management Interface"

I have 2 options update driver or revert to previous driver. Try update. Fails. Try revert to previous. Nothing happens. Error message still present after reboot.

Check HP support pages. BIOS is not most up to date. Update BIOS. Successful but now an extra error message saying that an unknown device has a problem with it's driver!

Support page also has link to original driver for Intel(R) Management Interface. Download. Install. Fails generating error message:

1261: Ole exception on line 888 of W:\Patches
com exception SWbemLocator Not found.

I'm afraid this is meaningless to me.

Can anyone explain in simple terms what Intel(R) Management Interface is, what it does and should I worry that there is a driver problem?

Any help, suggestions gratefully received. TIA.

Big Al

Everytime I start up the computer and check device manager, there are yellow exclamation marks on my network adaptor and Intel Management Engine Interface error. It says that the device cannot start (code 10). However this all goes away when I restart the computer; but happens again when I "shut down" and turn the pc on again. I have tried formatting windows 7 several times but problem still persists. How can I fix this so that these devices start on my first startup?

Answer:Problem with Intel Management Engine Interface

You may want to try re-installing the chipset driver.

I have a Dell Precision Tower 5810 running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit.
My system has an Integrated Network Card (Intel Ethernet Connection 1217-LM)
You are supposed to be able to access the Intel Management Engine BIOS by pressing Ctrl-P when you see the screen that tells you to Press Ctrl-P to enter MEBx Setup - but that Screen never pops up when I reboot while taping the F12 key.
I have reason to believe that DHCP may be disabled in the Intel Management Engine BIOS & I need to enable it because my Fiber Optic ISP uses Dynamic IP Addresses instead of Static IP Addresses.

Answer:Why Can't I Access the Intel Management Engine BIOS?

MEBx is VPRO not INTEL Management Engine.  If you have INTEL CTRL P then there will be a white sticker on the inside of the case with a number.
If its a 3 then MEBx is permanently disabled at the factory.

This label has a number on it that indicates the management mode you need to choose to get the appropriate configuration for the computer.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14. It has a i7-5500U processor.

There's a critical update for "Intel Management Engine 11.0 Firmware -7 [32,64]/8.1/10 [64]". However, installing it produces the following error message: "error 8743 Unknown or unsupported platform". (see attached screenshot)

I've tried installing it with the utility from the Lenovo site, as well as using the standard Lenovo updating tool called "System Update 5". Both with the same result.

I don't know what to do. Intel says it can't help because it's Lenovo specific. And Lenovo won't help because it's out of warranty.

Answer:Intel Management Engine Fails To Update

Try the Intel Driver Update Utility if it doesn't show there, or wont install, just forget it if your system is working ok.

My notebook stopped going into standby mode after uninstalling Real Player. The uninstall left a registry entry that interfered with the computer's power management software. Here is MS's fix from the Help & Support Center.

Answer:Power Management Problem - Real Networks Player Uninstall

Thanks for posting your solution. Just out of curiosity was this application of REAL OBNOXIOUS, sorry REALPLAYER a paid version or freeware?

The only reason I ask this is the fact that earlier this year I purchased a domain name for 10 years that I will eventually get off the ground. The purpose of the website will be to gather support to pursue legislation to force software manufacturers whose applications are sold in the U.S. to include a FULL UNINSTALLER with their program. Obviously, you could not include operating systems manufacturers and you could not include freeware manufacturers since all freeware is downloaded and installed at the users risk.

Personally, I am just sick and tired of installing a program and later decide I want to uninstall it and the uninstaller just removes enough to "cripple" the program and still leaves files and registry entries scattered all over your computer.

Again, glad you got your problem solved.

Hi I downloaded and started using "crap-cleaner" after someone recomended it on my last thread. It's a program that cleans out unused files for performance, it also cleans out the registry. Now i made a back up of the registry and saved it on my desktop before using ccleaner, but i have been using ccleaner several times since then wothout making multiple back ups, only the first one.

My main question is: is it almost always safe to "merge" an old registry copy, even if it's been three months. If you've installed new programs or uninstalled new programs since then , does that make it dangerous?

I think i MAY need to merge the old registry for 2 reasons. #1: I'm getting odd extended pauses/ stalling when going from web-page to web-page ( and yes i've used updated : Norton-Anti-Virus, Spybot Search&Destroy, Ad-Aware, CWshreder and A2 in safemode to see if it was a virus) #2 :At the 'start-up' menu when going into 'safe-mode', after choosing 'safe-mode' it leaves then returns to the menu and then says: " Windows is bypassing your normal start-up files" and below that "HIMEM is testing extended memory" before normally going into safe-mode. I don't remember it ever going beck to menu and saying those things before so i wonder if something is now missing.

I'm pretty sure most of what ccleaner deleted where 'invalid file extensions' and 'missing... Read more

Answer:safe REGISRTY merge after "crap-cleaner" ?

Hi, I am a bit hazy but what you see whle going into Safe mode seems to be correct. It does by pass a lot of your start files anyway.

I fyou install the scanner files and then revert to the old registry andy progrms you intalled since the date of the old registry file would have to be reinstalled. IN other words if you install your scanner software you would have to do it again.

Your internet problem would not be related to cleaning the registry asyour browser is loading and running alright. I have no answer for this and I am not a real geek.

I have a ProBook 450 G3 running Windows 10. I am planning on updating the BIOS to N78 Ver. 01.15 Rev.A (from Ver. 01.12). I noticed the following statement on the BIOS download page: "HP strongly recommends updating the Management Engine firmware to version 11.0.18.1002 to prevent BIOS/Management Engine firmware corruption issues.". How can I determine the version of the IME firmware on my system? The latest version of the IME firmware for download is 11.0.0.1202 ... should I just go ahead and download and install that before the BIOS update? Thanks in advance,Mike

Answer:BIOS Update / Intel Management Engine Firmware

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. To answer your question about Intel ME... Perhaps in the Control Panel > Programs and features. When you find it there click on it and it should show a versionorif you search for it in C:\Program files or C:\Program files (x86) and search inside the folder, it should show the version somewhere. You may also see if this tool will work on W10 > https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19009     But considering you already have experience with BIOS things , I am wondering why do you want to do it again... General recommendation I provide to users/customers is NOT to upgrade BIOS/UEFI unless they experience any kind of specific BIOS/UEFI issue. Updating just for the "noble cause" of updaing and just for using the latest verson is not solution. Any kind of update (no matter for what and who relesed it) can fix 2 issues but may introduce 10 more issues. Additionally, upgrading the BIOS (for any vendor) poses more risks because BIOS recovery is not that easy as compared to typical software updates IF something goes wrong. Same applies for Windows Updates, OS update, drivers updates, etc - upgrade/update IF you have issues which you know are fixed in the newer version or for some severe security issues. Otherwise, keep the existing version as long as possible.

Answer:Intel Management engine interface is disabled (A740)

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Try reinstalling it again.  Only this time uninstall it first then reboot your computer.  Once the computer is booted up then install a fresh copy of the driver.

I own an Inspiron 5558 laptop.  For the past few months, this Intel Management Engine Interface Driver keeps asking to update the software.  I have tried both a complete removal followed by a reinstall and just a repair.  After both sequences I restarted the laptop.  It is still asking to update the software.
I am out of warranty on my laptop but would still appreciate any/all suggestions to resolve this.
Thank you!

We didn't install anything new, and this "Intel Management and Security" icon (which you can't close) started appearing in the start menu on the bottom of the screen.  What made this start appearing, and how can we get rid of it?

Answer:Intel Management and Security Status Icon started ...

Its part of the "SOL 4.0" package for Intel AMT. You can in fact close it and make it disappear. Right click, press exit.To make it disappear next time you boot windows, click on the icon,  UNCHECK "Management and Security will be availabe next time i log onto windows". It will be gone then.  I do agree, it is relatively useless for people not using AMT. You can actually disable the entire AMT engine in the Bios (Go to Intel AMT, DISABLE). It does no good if it is not running in a network with provisioning server.
