New to dual screens: Cursor Lock to Monitor?

Question: New to dual screens: Cursor Lock to Monitor?

I like dual monitors though I usually just dump something on my secondary and don't need to access it with a cursor for long periods of time. It's kind of a pain having the mouse constantly jump ship when you move it slightly too far on file menus and chrome tabs

I have searched some applications.
Dual Monitor Tool's "Swap Screen" keeps not working. The program Cursor lock I had trouble getting working at all and it is application based.

What do people use to lock a cursor to a monitor?

Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: New to dual screens: Cursor Lock to Monitor?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

4) Uncheck extend windows desktop box....

Hi folks. New here.  Sorry if this has  been asked/answered, but I searched and didn't find it. My company got me this great new W500 laptop.  Came with minidock and external monitor. I have the monitor plugged into the minidock, and have it to the right of the laptop. Laptop is monitor #2, and external LCD display is #2.  works great.  UNTIL.... If I lock the console, and fold the laptop monitor closed (to have it power off - i.e. at lunch break, etc...) When I come back, the external monitor is now monitor #1 (has the windows task bar, Start menu, etc...) and it thinks the laptop monitor is monitor #2.  I can't figure out how to switch them back without rebooting.  It's very frustrating, b/c the 'sides' are swapped too.  Meaning the external LCD display which is physically to the right, is "on the left" as far as Windows is concerned, so if I drag the mouse off-screen to the right of the external display, it arrives on the left side of the laptop (which is physically to the left). Is there a simple solution to this?  I can't live with having to reboot every time I lock my monitor. I'm using Windows XP if that makes a difference.

Answer:Dual Monitor issue. Lock console & external monitor becomes monitor #1

more information... It's the 'advanced minidock' with keys. The monitor is connected via the DVI port, not the plain old VGA port.

Right so this may be a VERY dense question, I have no idea when it comes to this sort of thing so forgive me.

So right now I'm not using my TV as a monitor, I have a 22" LG monitor. I've just got a new rig and I'm about to upgrade the monitor. So when I have this new monitor it'll plug into the graphics card (HD7950) via a dvi-i to dvi-d cable I believe? As monitors generally seem to mention dvi-d connections and the GPU has a DL-dvi slot?

So once that's sorted I wanted, if possible, to have my TV as a second monitor so I could watch bbc iplayer, 4OD etc on it. Now this is what I'm not sure how to do, is it just a case of plugging a HDMI cable from the GPU to my TV and it'll just work as a second monitor without any tinkering, or is there more to it?

Answer:Question on dual screens, monitor and LCD TV

Pretty much, yeah. You just plug in the TV via HDMI, let it install the device and it should pop up automatically. You can tweak settings of course, but it should auto default to the best settings.

This is assuming you have Win7/8 of course, different OS's may have a different setup.

[Monitor 1] [Monitor 2]

I want to have it so if I open Chrome is Taskbar 1, it'll open on Monitor 1... and same with Taskbar 2 on Monitor 2.

Right now, they all open on Monitor 2 (primary). Any ideas how to make it if I click on an icon on T1 it'll always open on M1 and T2 on M2?

Hey. Firstly, apologies if this is a noob question but any guidance will be helpful.

Basically, i have a LCD monitor connected through HDMI to my laptop and both screens are working at the moment as duplicates.

What i am after is the screens to coincide and for me to be able to drag a window from my laptop to monitor, or vice versa.

When i have the 'extend desktop on 1 and 2' setting selected my laptop works as normal but the monitor screen only shows the wallpaper of my laptop and nothing else.

Is there anything i can do from here to be able to use both screens together or am i simply stabbing in the dark?

Thanks in advance,

Topcat9H.

I have a laptop display (1366 x 768) and an additional monitor connected via VGA (1024 x 1280 - portrait mode):

http://d.pr/i/guID

On the secondary monitor, if I use Droplr and start at the bottom right and go a few mouse scrolls above the upper boundary of the screen to the top left, here is what I get from the screenshot:

http://d.pr/i/aGqp

If I open an application and hold the Windows key down and use the right arrow, it will scroll through the 3 positions for each window, including 3 positions for the imaginary monitor.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of what appears to be an imaginary 3rd monitor that windows is allowing me to interact with but doesn't allow me to see any properties for?

Answer:Mouse pointer goes off the screens in dual monitor setup

You are going to have to go into the adapter software, to figure out how to get rid of the third adapter.  Without knowing the GPU chip type (ie amd or nvida) and model of the chip, everyone will be clueless.  You have the computer, open up Control Panel, then click on Display.  There should be a folder in All programs for the software utility for your GPU chip, that will let you adjust advanced properties for the display adapter.

I set up my dual monitors and so far loving it. Only problem is setting up wallpapers and this white rectangle in the top right hand corner of my monitor (The second monitor I hooked up) I can't right click on it or anything and when I restart the computer when it powers down the white rectangle goes away (So the monitor can't be damaged or anything right?)

Thanks

Answer:Help setting up dual monitor screens (White rectangle box?)

Any updates on this?

I am also having the same issue. A white box appears in the top left corner of screen.

It originally only appeared after the laptop had been to sleep, but now it can appear anytime.

If i click on the 'show the desktop' shortcut (far right of start bar), the white box will minimise.

I have attached a screenshot also.

Thanks

To activate the dual screens I have to hold down the window Icon and then press (p) to bring up window Icon allowing me to these extend, which allows me to use each monitor separately. How do I set it where the "extend" option is the default every time I open up my computer.

Answer:I have dual screens how do I get Windows 10 to accept dual screens (extend) as default

There doesn't seem to be an option built-in for this.. Would be a great feature for MS to implement in a next update tho

I'm running XP pro as a VM using parralels 5.0 with the host being a mac. I have a dual monitor setup. When I'm using monitor 1 and start typing the cursor disappears. When I go to move the mouse the cursor is at the top of the screen in the middle of the two monitors, or the overall middle. It only pertains to monitor designated as 1. If that monitor is on the left the cursor moves to the upper right corner of monitor 1. If that monitor is on the right it moves to the upper left corner of monitor 1. I haven't had this happen on the second monitor.

I've had this happen in Word and in MS dialog windows, IE. changing a file name, saving a filename, etc. I did happen in dreamweaver cs4 when renaming a file by clicking on it. It doesn't happen in browsers or Excel.

I don't have hide cursor when typing checked in my mouse settings. Almost all the posts I've read are people using laptops and their problem is them accidentally using the touch pad. I don't really care that the mouse disappears, but it relocating is a big pain.

I'm starting on the windows side. It could very well be related to parallels though.

Thanks,
Gunner

hello,

I have been using dual screen for a while now. But recently my mouse has been changing randomly on my second monitor. When I start my PC theres litterally no problem but after a while the cursor randomly changes to what you can see on the pictures below. I'm not using a custom cursor.
The only difference between the 2 monitors is that one is connected with HDMI and 1 is connected with a DVI kable into a DVI to DP converter on the graphics card. The HDMI monitor is the one ruining it.

(sorry for the bad picture quality, my cursor does not display on screenshots and I couldn't find how to change that)

The picture with the black box is the cursor hovering a textbox.

I have my PC in the office, connected to a 19" monitor through the VGA port, and a 720P plasma in the living room, connected with the HDMI port. I can do dual desktops, but whenever I turn off my TV, or change the input source, Windows disables the second desktop, and my icons all move back to the 19" monitor. How do I do the following?

Setup 1 (ideal): Totally separated desktops: the monitor is controlled by the wired mouse and keyboard, the HDTV is controlled by the wireless mouse and keyboard, the cursors cannot move from one desktop to the other.

Setup 2 (acceptable): Lock the icons in place so that, even when Windows thinks the monitor has been disconnected (in the case of a power off), it will hold the icon locations on the HDTV extended desktop.

Thanks,

Answer:Dual monitor, either totally separate desktops or lock icon positions?

You could set the dual monitor setup to replicate the desktop on both screens? So you can have the 19" monitor turned off and get the same desktop on your plasma vice versa. Or do you want the dual monitor functionality, so you have stuff on your 19" monitor that you don't want on your plasma?

I recently been having issues with my computer where it just won't respond at all. hello all,

using "dual monitor" software program. mouse would switch screens with my two monitors. replaced one monitor with a new one - now mouse will not move from screen to screen unless the setting is "duplicate displays". If i choose "extend displays", the mouse will not switch. I can see on the second screen an update window from the "dual monitor" program but cannot move the mouse over to that screen.

one monitor is on dvi and the other on vga but that was not a problem with the old monitor.

suggestions? I am considering a stand alone graphics card with dual dvi.

Answer:problems with "dual monitor" program and mouse changing screens...

Not the proper answer to your question obviously, but the best (most probably) program to manage multiple displays is DisplayFusion. You may try it. Usually it satisfies the users.
DisplayFusion: Multi-Monitor Taskbar, Multi-Monitor Screen Savers, HotKeys, Multi-Monitor Wallpaper, Windows Logon Changer and more!

It seems a little silly to come here for help on this, but I'm having an issue watching movies on Netflix since I got a new Windows 8 PC...

I can watch them, no problem... but after an hour or so (I've not actually timed it yet) it goes to the lockscreen because of "inactivity".

I've scoured the web and done the 'fixes' to disable the lockscreen, and to edit the delay for it to kick in, but neither option has helped. (According to the sites I've been on, disabling the lock is only for the timeout period to turn off the display when you have already locked the computer, and that is not the issue for me.

What I have done, is to enable the option to display the console lock... and I have set it to 0 minutes, hoping that 0 would mean never, since "never" is not an option... didn't work. I set it to 600 minutes, hoping for a 10 time frame, just for giggles... and it still cut off after the hour or so into a movie.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I am disabled, and spend a great deal of time watching movies from my bed.

Thanks, in advance, for any help. Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

Hi all,

I have this odd error with changing the lock screen that's been driving me mad and I really don't want to have to reinstall just because of this.

Going to PC settings shows this screen:

Note how the lock screen tile is empty. Clicking on it brings me to this:

So no lock screen image choices are being shown to me at all. I can click "Browse" and select a new image, but nothing happens. Choosing a lock screen slideshow does nothing as well.

I've tried many, many things, from resetting libraries and messing with the SystemData folder (in fact, that's the only way that I can change my lock screen, by replacing images in the SystemData folder.) Deleting the SystemData folder to try and generate a clean one doesn't work.

Any suggestions? Could anybody provide me with a clean, default version of the SystemData folder?

Here I go again (and this is getting old) - seems the more I "learn", the more problems I have ...

Recently (past couple of days), for reasons totally unbeknownst to me, both of the PC's I "attempt" to "maintain" (or "administer" - HAH! that's a joke!) are going to a BLACK SCREEN (of death??) on occasion (so far, for no seeming rhyme or reason?) when I am switching between tabs or programs, etc. - the remedy for which has only been to IMPROPERLY SHUT-DOWN THE MACHINES (pressing/holding the power button down for four seconds).

Moving/clicking the mouse does nothing, Ctrl/Alt/Delete doesn't work - and nothing happens (as has always been the case) - when I press the "Esc" key.

Where might I start to try and diagnose THIS one please?

Thanks in advance as usual,

Answer:Recent BLACK (Lock-up) Screens on BOTH PC's

Without actually sitting down at the PCs, it's hard to really provide a course of action. But if 2 totally separated PCs are doing more or less the same thing, you should take a look at what you've done to each PC in recent days/weeks that is more or less the same. Did you recently install the same program(s) on each? Was there a virus infection on each? A driver update? Windows updates? New hardware? You could try a system restore on one PC to a date when you know there was no problems. If it works with one PC, try it on the 2nd....

I've been battling with XP for a couple weeks now, and I've decided to ask for 3rd party help. Here's the problem:

Here is the strange part so say i select image X the WIN-L lock screen saves it as image X but the boot lockscreen is image Y. If i set an image to image Y for the lock screen the boot lock screen image goes to image Z. I personally think the callback for the selected image is not the one windows is pulling to be used as it is a different boot background every time i change it.

If any more information is needed please let me know and thanks for the help

I need your help on my HP G60 Laptop. There's a ton of things wrong with it. Lock ups, blue screens, superantispy catches a lot of things. It takes malwarebytes almost 8 hours to run. You fixed my mom's computer in a flash. Where shall I start. Please guide me.

hi, my first post here, i have had a nightmare with my 9800XT card over the last few months, whenever i install any drivers above 4.10 Cat. it seems to give me blue screens randomly, i have updated my motherboard chipset ect.. As ATI advised me to but still im getting it. Even today while running a 3d Mark test i got a blue screen. My GFX card (In the ATI overdrive panel) says its at 70-80*C outside of a game, In the "PC health" section in the start up the CPU is 30-40*C. I mainly get the problem playing the following Games, Battlefield 2, Joint operations and Blackhawk down. i cant figure this out and thought i would post here.

Im currently using the latest ATi drivers (5.7)

Any help would be grateful.

Jonathan.

Answer:ATI 9800XT Radeon (blue screens, lock-ups, ect.)

The 9800 series cards run very hot. Your card fan may be failing. You can get a VGA Silencer for about $15. It replaces the fan and heatsink and does a great job of cooling the card. You may also need to do a clean install of Windows if you've changed the video driver alot.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 from 8.1, I'm having an issue where every time I lock the computer and the monitors go into sleep mode (the computer is NOT in sleep mode), the monitors will flicker, flash and change configuration wildly when I unlock the machine.

Each time it generates a lock screen critical event as pictured. All of the application failures are lock screen failures.

Strange problem here. I have four Dell desktops set up the same way as my Dell laptops, however, the desktops all work fine but the laptops don't. I have the latest Windows 10 Anniversary Edition installed and the only way I can get it to work is by installing a basic build, with nothing kept.

If I install Windows 10 and keep the existing files, upon boot, the laptop loops between the login and lock screens ad infinitum. The only thought is that I have all but Shutdown and Restart set and all other options greyed out. Is there an easy Regedit patch available to reactivate Hibernate, Sleep, Lock, Switch user, etc?

My plan is to restore a previous Windows 10 image and reactivate all of the above options and then to upgrade to the latest Windows 10 to try and prove my theory.

Answer:Windows 10 loops between login and lock screens ad infinitum

Hi, it sounds like you may be saying that if you do a clean install on your laptops, all is fine.. (or at least if you opt not to keep existing files) "If I install Windows 10 and keep the existing files".

If so, this suggests sthg you have installed or configured is interfering.

Hibernate isn't recommended these days.

Consider this, and try powercgf -a from a command prompt:
I have two new laptops (an HP and a Gateway) with Win 7 Pro on each, and set up
exactly the same. On the Gateway, the sleep and hibernate work fine.
On the HP, the sleep and hibernate are greyed out.

Using cmd: powercfg -a
The Gateway shows " the following sleep states are available ... Standby (S3),
Hibernate Hybrid Sleep"

The HP shows "sleep states not available..system firmware does not support
standby state" "legacy driver vgasave .. prevents this standby state"

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

Hi,  I'm trying to setup dual monitor for my lenovo T61P laptop. I want to use one external monitor which is connected to my Thinkpad docking station and the laptop lcd monitor. I'm using windows vista x64. Does any one else have it setup this way? When I connect the laptop to the docking station, only the external  monitor displays data. I've tried going into desktop settings to extend my desktop but only one monitor is present. Please help. I've spent an entire two days playing with BIOS settings, searching forums....

Answer:T61P - dual monitor with docking station (laptop lcd monitor) and one external monitor

This started working fine when I installed the video drivers below: Display (NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M / Quadro FX 570M) driver for Windows Vista 64-bit - ThinkPadhttp://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67939  It looks like I had installed the wrong video drivers (32-bit)  previously. Now fn+F7 works fine and I am able to extend my desktop to mulple monitors (dual-monitor).

Hello, recently i've been having weird video problems and i think my video card may possibly be going bad but i'm not entirely sure. Sometimes it works perfectly other times i am getting these symptoms, some of which happen at the same time: An enlarged and/or distorted cursor, the screen will tear rapidly for a few seconds then go back to normal, sometimes i will get a solid color displayed on my screen with a bit darker shade of lines going through it. This 'blue screen' can last anywhere from a few seconds to minutes before the computer either unfreezes out of it or it eventually turns to a black screen and the computer shuts down. Usually when it unfreezes out of a screen like this i get a "display driver wasn't responding and has recovered" message. I have reseated the video card multiple times and have cleaned out all the dust from the computer using compressed air--i'm not sure if its an over heating issue. These problems use to occur only when i played video games but now they also occur when i'm just surfing the net and stuff. My video cards driver is up to date, but oddly enough after i updated the driver and rebooted the computer it worked entirely perfectly until the next day when i turned it on--the problems returned. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

At some point the caps lock got stuck on - the light showed. I worked out that I could use the shift key if I wanted to use lower case. Then I found that when starting up the computer the cursor was stuck at the same time, I used CTRL ALT DEL to unstick it.

Occasionally the caps lock would randomly unstick. I now have a situation where it comes on alot and if I jiggle the button it goes back to normal for a short time. When the caps lock light comes on again the cursor sticks every time...this happens every few seconds.

Wierdly it is not happening now but it does on Facebook - alot.

Any ideas anyone. (I have tried going to the settings and changing the keyboard settings. It worked for a short time and no longer does. Could this be a virus?

Thanks for reading

Question: dual screens

What if anything is the difference with, Dual Screens, and Extended Desktop. Thanks

Answer:dual screens

Very little IMO. Having Dual screens allows you to use either screen to display information by dragging things back and forth but the actual desktop (i.e. where programs open and icons are displayed) remains only on the primary monitor.

When you extend your desktop on to the secondary monitor then you can use that space as additional area to perform the desktop functions that would have been locked to the primary monitor.

Hi Dual Clone and Welcome,

Could you please fill in your system specs on your forum profile so we know what we're working with?

Importantly:what make/model is your graphics card?
Does it support two screens?
Have you loaded the graphics card software and drivers that came with it?
Can you see two screens in display settings (Control Panel | Display | Screen
Resolution)?
If you see 2 screens are both enabled?

Did your new monitor come with an install disk?

I'm sure we'll be able to help you further, hang in there and get back to me.

Question: Dual Screens?

Hi Guys,

I have a PC with DVI and VGA output.

I have a screen that is VGA and also one that accepts DVI.

Is it just a case of plugging them into their respective slots, or do I need an adapter for dual-screening?

Thanks,

D

Answer:Dual Screens?

As far as I know, you'd need a video card that would support that, because it seems like to me one is on-board graphics, and the other is your video card. Which I don't think that would work, but give it a shot. Lol.

Question: Dual screens?

I was at my friends house and he has a monitor connected to his pc. He can scroll from screen to screen. I connected another monitor to my laptop and i see duplicate to what is on my laptop screen. I read around to see if i could do that on my laptop. Iv come to the conclusion that i need to have a pc in order to do it. I dont know much about computers. I was hoping maybe you guys know a way for me to somehow be able to do it? I tried maxivista but it didnt seem to work

Answer:Dual screens?

OK....to be able to run your computer with dual monitors (notebook or pc) you have to either run 2 video cards (SLI) or your single video card must support a dual monitor configuration for which you will have to use a dvi-vga adapter.(one connector on your card will be vga, the other is usually DVI or DVI-D)
To see if this is possible with a single video card, if using XP, right click on your desktop, select properties, settings tab, and if you see two boxes numbered 1 and 2 you should be OK.
Shutdown your system, connect up your second monitor and then reboot, going into device manager to see that your extra display is recognized.
Then follow the procedure above again to get into display properties settings tab, click the numbered 2 box, then check the box saying 'extend my desktop onto this monitor and you should be up and running!

Hope this helps....

Regards!

Is there any software to let you get dual screens. I don't think mine is capable going into settings. Thanks

If you mean that you want to have two different monitors displaying different things then you need a video card that can do that. If you mean that you want the same thing on two monitors then that is also a hardware function.

Question: Dual Screens!

I wanna hook up a second screen to my one computer, i have only an onboard AGP card and a Gforce2MX400 AGP card, and it wont let me use both AGP cards at once, i want to extend my desktop onto the other screen! I tried it with my onboard and an old PCI graphics card, and it worked but was sluggish and kept freezing, so i borrowed an AGP card of a friend and it wont let me use it! Any Help?

Answer:Dual Screens!

Wont happen, you cant mix integrated and non integrated graphics. You can how ever, with a lot of fiddling get the Geforce card and the PCI card to work. Put both in the machine and see if you can force the computer to see the second monitor. This will be done with your display properties.

I am currently using an Acer 1916Q Widescreen Monitor. I have an old ViewSonic 19" CRT Monitor. I am always using Acrobat Reader and started thinking about using two monitors, one for work, the other only for PDFs. I have a Radeon 9800 pro card, so, from what i understand, i have dualview suppported hardware.

Being said, what's the routine for this? Is it even possible? I've never tried this, so I have a sneaky suspicion that it requires two of the same monitor (IE two widescreens).

Further more, if it is possible, would half the screen go over to the ViewSonic or is there any nifty software out where I could just have Acrobat going on the ViewSonic, and everything on my Acer remains the same?

Thanks for any help!

Question: Dual Screens

I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro with DVI and analogue connections running XP Pro. My question is: if I connect two screens can I use the screens to operate separate software. e.g. one with word and say the other with Excel. Or is the second screen just for display purposes only. If I can, How does the mouse work on both screens? is the a switch to swap from one to the other?

Answer:Dual Screens

You can open multiple applications just as if you had one screen and then drag the window with that app across to the second screen. The mouse will just move from one screen to the other as you move it from left to right.

where or how can i see my secondary screen on my primare screen

Answer:dual screens

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.3. On the Settings tab of the Display Properties dialog box, click the monitor icon that represents the monitor you want to designate as the primary monitor.4. Click to select the Use this device as the primary monitor check box. Note that this check box is unavailable when you select the monitor icon that is currently set as your primary monitor. These instructions are for XP (found/abridged from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307873), but for other windows operating systems it should be similar.

On my primary monitor I've run a 360 and my Windows 7 p.c into it. I've set up a shortcut hotkey so that I can disable the primary to swap to the 360 when needs be. However I'd like to be able to access the web whilst using my 360 without having to cycle through the monitor menu to swap back. So I got my old monitor on my desk, however I can't think what to do with it. It's got a lower resolution than my primary so simply making it the secondary whenever I want to use the 360 isn't viable (it messes up the icons). I can't think of any work around, using ultramon and shrinking the main image isn't very good either due to it having both delay and a lower framerate even at the the highest systme usage settings. Can you guys think of any work arounds? I've tried saving the icon positions but then firefox still opens in the main monitor. I really would like to swap monitors on the fly with a hotkey and restore icons later.

Answer:Dual Monitor Problem TV+Monitor (Clone mode) Monitor (OK) TV (No Color)

You will alway struggle with a cathode screen. You need to really have a T.V that has a VGA port. Which generally means spending money. My tv is a Sony Bravia with a VGA port and it works perfect but I had to spend the money to get it.

Recently, i've noticed that everytime windows 10 (x64 pro) starts and gets to the initial lock screen, it takes up to 6 seconds to show the mouse cursor and register keyboard events in order to let me log in. It used to be instantaneous.

Alienware 17 R4, brand new this week.
All drivers and software updated to most recent versions.
The issue i have is between Caps Lock, using the trackpad/touch pad cursor, and the arrow keys.
I did have the issue with the error message popping up regarding the Thunderbolt driver not being correct, but that has been fixed with a driver update.
Specifically, this happens to me playing World of Warcraft.
With the Caps Lock key enabled (light is on), I can use the trackpad to move the cursor around on the screen, while using the arrow keys to move my character around.  I don't seem to have an issue.
With the Caps Lock key disabled (light is off), while using the arrow keys, my cursor does not want to move, or sometimes is very intermittent in use.
Also, if i am pressing a key, say spamming the 1 key, the trackpad does not recognize any input form my touching it.  This is with the Num Lock key on or off.
I do not use a mouse, have gamed with the trackpad for 20 years now, no issues.  And this is my 3rd alienware laptop, and first time i have had this issue.
I have also adjusted all of the settings on the trackpad and mouse settings, turned gestures and zoom and other settings on and off individually and completely.
As this is really my main use for this computer, may be a deal breaker for me, as it is very frustrating to not be able to use the trackpad all the time.

Question: dual screens/audio

ok guys so here's the situation. I have windows 7 and I have 2 monitors hooked up and I have a few audio questions. I have figured out how to change which one gets the audio changing the default but what if I want them both to get audio? is that possible? And further yet am I able to make it so whatever is on the screen is what the audio plays. In other words can i play a movie on one screen and get the movie audio to come out that one and play a game on another and get the game audio to come out that one so there is less overlapping? My first question is my main goal but both would be nice! haha. Thanks!

Answer:dual screens/audio

Are you using VmWare? You will need two sound cards to do that. Here is a helpful link:

I have a computer that had two screens hooked to it - for some reason the other screen has now stopped displaying.

So when I boot up I get a background but nothing else - if I right click I can see an options dialog, but the problem is everything is being displayed on the monitor I can't get to.

I tried safe mode, but can't seem to resolve the problem here either.

Any ideas??

Answer:Dual Screens no longer?!

I don't use dual monitors but I was talking today to someone who does & they told me that you couldn't use an AGP card together with integrated video to enable dual monitors. Haven't tested this myself but they said the AGP card disables the integrated video.

Some details about your hardware might help.

Hello,

I work in a retail store (The Good Guys) thus the name, we have 2 laptops setup with dual screens, but we want to set 2 different screensavers for each monitor, they both are using Windows vista Home Premium we need to setup dual monitors (done) and 2 different screensavers (custom made.. windows photo slideshow of Powerpoint photo's) are setup on the single one.

Is there any program to replicate it?

The first one use's a generic intel chipset and the second use's an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470, but we do have one with an nVidia 9200M chipset, would it be easier to use the nVidia..

Cheers,

Kris

I'm not sure if I'm posting this question in the correct place, so forgive me if I'm not. I have dual screens and am running XP Home. The XP screensavers work on both screens, but I have a couple of other 3D screensavers that I really love, but they don't work on both screens. Does anyone know how to make that happen? The screensavers are 3D Winter Screensaver and 3D Solar System Screensaver. Thanks.

Answer:Screensavers and dual screens

Do you have you monitors set up to work as 1 big desktop or are they set up to work seperate from each other?

That is the deciding factor on how it is going to be done. Also is you setup with 1 Video Card or 2?

hey, i just got a 19"wide to go with my 17, they look really good together, but when i run CCS or GW or any game for that matter, it runs is clone mode. i want it to play the game on my 19 and have windows still up on the second. is there any programs out there or anything to do this?

Answer:Dual screens. get game to run on only one.

Well, you need to tell us your systems specs and video card. I can tell you haow to do it on an nVidia card:

1. Open control panel

2. Switch to classic view

3. Go to "Display Settings"

4. Go to "Dual Screens"

5. Change setting to whatever you want

Thats IF you have a nVidia card. You didn't tell us, so I can't tell you anything more.

Hello. I am trying to use two monitors. I am wanting each to have a differant picture on them. More importantly and troublesome, Each monitor needs to be a differant resolution. I'm not sure if this can happen. I can't find a setting. One monitor is 1440x900 and the other is 1025x768. The only options I can find are "Clone" and "Span". Span would work other than the resolution differance... Any help would be great. Thanks.

Answer:8800gtx Dual Screens

Plug in both monitors and reboot. I had this issue when i was trying to set mine up, i could only clone and span. After you reboot the computer will see both monitors. It will let you run different resolutions, but i still havent figured out how to have a different background picture for each monitor.

Hi everybody,

I recently purchased a T410i, and I noticed that it has both a VGA and a Displayport connection. Does this mean that I can run extended dual monitors (i.e. not mirrored, but able to drag a window from one monitor to the other)?

This is what I am talking about (the two act as one big monitor):

Answer:Dual screens on a T410i?

I believe you need a docking station for that. If you have only integrated graphics or only discrete graphics, you can drive two screens at any given time. If you have Optimus, then you can drive three.

i didn't really know where to ask this question...but here is my problem
i have had 2 screens (Acer x223w) one for my 360 Via DVI port with DVI/HDMI Adapter and the other screen for my PC use.
i use a crappy NVIDIA GeForce 9200
i just bought a new HDMI could and HDMI to DVI adapter so i could dual screen my PC when i wasn't playing xbox.
but when i am dual screening and want to switch to the DVI to play xbox it doesn't allow me.
the steps i use to do before having 2 screens is go into Menu>Input>Input Source>DVI-D and it would go to my xbox.
but ever since i have had 2 screens running my PC it forces me back to the PC screen when i try to switch to the DVI to play Xbox.
Screen 1 is hooked up to my computer with HDMI
screen 2 is hooked up to my computer with VGA and then to the XBOX with a DVI/HDMI adapter and HDMI cord
not really sure if that explains my problem but it is as best as i can do

just wondering if there is anything i can do to fix this.

UPDATE: seems to work if my screens are set to Duplicate instead of extend. if i choose extended it doesn't like me switch to DVI

Answer:Can't use DVI while Dual Screens Are Working

not to bump a thread
but i guess i could just use win key + P and choose "Computer Only" When i want to play
but none the less and normal fix would be wonderful...
it also seems my xbox resets whenever i try to switch from VGA to HDMI so that could be truly the problem of the screen not "Handshaking" the hdmi connection

I have a standard Essential all in one.   I thought it would be handy to run dual screens for something I am working on but cannot see a way to do this on the machine.  Is it possible?  Thanks AMC

Answer:Dual Screens - can you do it on the Essential All in One?

hi AMC1223,

Yes If a system has a Display out like a VGA or HDMI, this can be used as a second display.

Can you share what system are you using and what type of connection is has,
Also share what TV/Display you're using.

Regards
Solid Cruver

The sound has never come through the Laptop's speakers. I use an Acer display and Ozaki speakers attached to it.
While trying to figure out why the sound disappeared I hit, if I remember correctly, the F5 button and the display vanished. It turns out that I've turned on a multiple screen display and have no idea how to turn it off. The Acer works well - I can move pages onto it and back but still without sound . So I have TWO problems.
Can anyone help me please?

Bad start to Anniversary update - messed up my dual screen setup.
I used to have my two screens setup so I could run different programs on them. Now I can only have the same thing on both. No point in having two screens. Settings allows me to set same on both or only on 1 (or 2). In practice whatever I set defaults to same on both.

I have a nVidia Quatro video card.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Can't get dual screens setup.

sounds like youre copying the monitors instead of expanding (via win+p) ? other than that, no idea than suggesting to unplug and replug the monitors in wanted order.

I have windows 7 ultimate 64x with 2 screens. Is it possible to set each screen t o have its own display resolution when they are Mirrored? The screens are not the same and (one is a basic dell flat screen, and one is my hd 52" tv) and i prefer not to use the extend screen choice, but i rather would like to just mirror them but have 800x600 on one, and 1024x768 on the other (just for example). When i watch dvd movies, the entire hd tv is not using the full screen and only shows as a sqware instead of wide screen. I use to have this working before, but not sure how i did it, and i just reinstalled windows 7.

Possible?, and how (i could not see how to do this)?
thanks.

(please move this if its in the wrong place)I would like to know how to set up a dual screen system, i have two 19' LCD moniters, my graphic card is a ATI radeon X1950,i have a HD-8 channel sound card, Intel core 2 duo (2.1 gHz) for my processor. My OS is Windows XP (SP2)if you need anymore Info just ask

Answer:Dual Screens set-up and operation

This could probably go in hardware, but never mind.Check the graphics card outputs available, either by physically looking or on the manufacturer's site. Then all you need to do is plug the monitors in.Your graphics card may not have the right outputs fr your monitors though, which is why I advise checking. You also need to use the Catalyst Control Centre, or whatever else you may use, to enable dual screens.Having an ATI card and dual screens myself, I am somewhat familiar with the process, so if I haven't explained it well or you need more help don't hesitate to ask.

I have a tube 27 inch tv hooked up to my ati 4870 and a lg 24 inch as my primary monitor with windows 7.
When I'm surfing the web and put a internet explorer window with a video playing in fullscreen on my tube tv and go back to my primary monitor the video on the tube tv screen comes out of fullscreen. I was just woundering if there's a way to lock that video in fullscreen with internet explorer so I can still browse the internet and still watch fullscreen on the tube tv. thx

Answer:Dual screens and fullscreen

I found this (I hate this 'feature' as well):
http://my.opera.com/d.i.z./blog/2009/04/22/watch-fullscreen-flash-while-working-on-another-screen

Hex patched .dll for the latest flash plug-in. Only one byte difference (compare with your current version to see) so it's almost certainly not malware, fyi.

[edit...]
Tested it and it works, but only on non-primary monitor. If you try to watch flash fullscreen on the primary monitor and mess around on the secondary monitor, it comes out of full-screen as usual, but vice versa it does not.

Hi, I have an end user that wants to use his T60 with Dual monitors. I know that he is NOT going to be able to use the laptop screen and two external monitors. the setup is this: T60 setup on a dock.2 19 inch external monitors, one is setup with VGA and the other is DVI.external USB mouse and K/B. right now, I am having an issue getting both connected. Fn+F7 are not working for me. I re-installed almost all of the Lenovo Thinkvantage features, presentation director ran system update etc....I was able to get it to work once, but after a reboot, I can not. does anyone have any idea?

Answer:T60 dual screens/monitors

Hello,

In order to help answer your question, I think a little more information is going to be needed.  Can you tell us which operating system is on the ThinkPad T60 and the machine type (which will be on a sticker on the bottom that says something like 1234-ABC)?  With that information, I am sure we can help you further troubleshoot the problem.

Hello,

I have just bought a new monitor for my PC (XPSP4 with a 8800GTX)

I now have a Samsung 1920x1200 and a Viewsonic 1680x1050 monitor.

I try to connect both with the dual view option in the NVIdia controller.

I can get the 1680x1050 to dispay at 1680x1050.
However the 1920x1200 only gets an option to connect 1920x1080, which does not look good.

I installed the Samsung monitor driver that came with the screen and installed the latest NVidia drivers. The 8800GTX is supposed to be able to handle two 2560x1600 screens.

When I use the Samsung in single screen mode it works fine at 1920x1200.

regards
gusi
