ca-clipper 5.3b for dos/windows

Question: ca-clipper 5.3b for dos/windows

does anyone know what happen to that "old" programming language, called clipper, like the old dbase language? what is clipper called today or computer programming language is the most similar to clipper?

Preferred Solution: ca-clipper 5.3b for dos/windows

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: ca-clipper 5.3b for dos/windows

OMG! My first job in the computer field! I was the install guy for a point of sale/accounting software for specialty gift shops, which was written in Clipper for DOS. Had to setup that program on point of sale computers for the front, and in the workstations in the office for the accounting part. They kept using the DOS version til past Win98 days, when I left that company. When I first got there they were using Artisoft LANtastic for the networking, on coax.

Pig of a DOS program, had to learn the art of fine tuning config.sys to get conventional memory up past 600.

The owners of the software company used to raise pit bulls...one of them came to the office every day, sorta the mascot of the office. His name was Clipper.

Anyways, I'm not a programmer, I'm a networking guy, but from what I remember in the days before I left that company, the programmers there were having a hard time migrating their program to a native Windows backend.

I believe Clipper for DOS remained for DOS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipper_(programming_language)
and one of the projects designed to migrate it to Windows almost made it..

I maintain some legacy programs written under dBase and compiled with Clipper.I have a couple of problems when running under some versions of Windows ? especially XPNormally the key-code for the left arrow key is identical to Ctrl-S> - both, when tested with a utitlity, are correctly shown as being ASC 19However, when running in a virtual DOS environment, while the left-arrow key works fine, the Ctrl-S> is ignored. I assume that Windows is intercepting the code for some other purpose.Using the Properties of the desktop shortcut to the DOS environment, I have tried various combinations of Compatibility (for Windows) and disabling the Windows Shortcut keys, but no still solution is found.Secondly: the programs frequently use the higher ASCII codes to build boxes on-screen. These generally work fine, but on occasion ? and I can find no reason for why this only happens sometimes ? the characters get mis-interpreted and produce other graphics characters.Would be grateful if anyone knows a solution ? especially to the key-code issue - or even just a pointer to someone who might know. Many thanksDr Philip Ramage

Question: Yankee Clipper fix

My YC has been dropping clippings. The YC website had me download a fix for that. Where I am now is that I have renamed to old YankClip.exe file to read YankClip.exeold, and now my YankClip[1] folder shows that old renamed file with a MS icon and the new file with a YC icon, just as was the case with the old file before I renamed it.

The YC instructions tell me to “Get the ZIP, stop the program, rename the old EXE, and finally copy the new file into the installation directory”. I wasn't sure at what point I was supposed to stop the program, I presume meaning the zip program, and how I was to do that, so what I did was to rename the old EXE first, and then download the new one without interrupting the program

Does what I did amount to “copying the new file into the installation directory"?

Since YC dropped clippings only sporadically, I am wanting to find out now if I did the fix right rather than just wait to see if the dropping problem happens again.

Thanks, grandpaw7

Answer:Yankee Clipper fix

Hiya

From what I'm reading, when they say 'stop the program', that may have been the YC program, not the zip.

The way I read it is as this..

Download the zip. Stop the YC program from running. Rename the exe to old, either like what you have done, or as YankClip.old, then open the zip, and extract the new exe into the same folder.

Is that what you did?

Regards

Question: Yankee Clipper III

I don't know why, but I can never seem to understand the software instructions. I can get stuff to YC by highlighting it and clicking Edit>Copy, just like usual before I had YC. (I am surprised that the instructions don't say how to get stuff to the Clipboard.) But then how do I paste the stuff, say, in a document I am composing in MS Word? If you don't mind, I need the instructions you would give to a kindergartener. Thanks, grandpaw

Hi
I am running a clipper program on a novell network, and my client machines have been running on Windows 95/98.
I have been operating with the following line in the autoexec.bat :SET CLIPPER=E:00;F:250;SWAPPATH:'C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\'

I have a machine that is not running on Windows XP, and i have no idea where to add the above line, or how to make it work..
each time i try to run that program i get the following error "Unrecoverable Error 5311; cannot create VM swap file"
where do i set the variables in Windows XP?.

Thanks!

Answer:Need help with clipper program!

Linpin:

Go to C:\windows\system32, and edit Autoexec.NT and Config.NT there is where the environment variables and DOS configuration must be set, every Dos Box that is opened will use the values within this files.

Don´t expect to see them if you type the SET command, but they are initialized and the clipper program will read them.

And I need a recomondation as to some good virus software to install on my 350 mhz Intell Pent. II. I have a creative 48x cd-rom, and a V.90 56k Us Robotics voice Fax modem. Would the wrong driver stop my fax from operating? Does anyone know where to get the right drivers? HELP!

If you want to try one for free though, go to www.antivirus.cai.com - it's pretty good too.

Hey i have a large .mpg file and i want to clip a section out of it. Do all programs need you to re-assemble all the parts before you play? I want to take a playable section out and delete the rest..like at specific start and end times and everything and then have a playable piece. I did a google search and there seems to be TONS of "editors". And they seem to do so many other things it all seems really complicated to go through all the programs. I would worry wich ones have spyware or would de-stabalize my system if they're done by amateurs.

Any Suggestions?

Answer:best MPG clipper/editor??

This is freeware. Not to hard to figure out.

1/ VirtualDub. If you want a close enough good enough edit just use virtualdub.

I've only used it on avi files but it seems to support other formats.

After getting my new XP computer, I downloaded the clipboard utility Yankee Clipper, which I used a lot on my older computer. However, I found out I downloaded the wrong version rather than the one I wanted and was used to. So I uninstalled it yesterday morning and instead installed the version I wanted. Then, I got to messing around trying to get YC on my startup and Quick Launch. Somehow, I messed things up so that YC wouldn't work. So I attempted to uninstall this second version of YC (the one I wanted). Add/Remove went through the usual procedure as though the uninstall worked fine. But it didn't. YC was no longer in Add/Remove, but it was big as life everywhere else although it still worked poorly. Then, I used System Restore to go back to yesterday morning before I uninstalled the version I didn't want. I wanted to start all over. So I tried to uninstall that version so I could newly install the good version. But now the bad version won't uninstall. When I try to do that via Add/Remove, I get a Wise Uninstall error saying "Could not open INSTALL.LOG file.

I have no idea what to do now. For one thing, I wonder if the error message means that the Add/Remove program now won't work for anything, or if that error message just applied to YC. I've thought about downloading free uninstaller but I prefer not to do anything till I can get some expert input.

Thank, grandpaw

Answer:BackDoor-CJO, AD-Clipper & downloader-OX

I was seeing McAfee return Downloader-OX and two other adware / virus threats. If you will look in the far right of the McAfee notification window (at least with McAfee Enterprise Edition) you will notice what applications are causing you the trouble.

I couldn't see anything in my startup files - either through regedit or Hijackthis! - I simply deleted the infected files (which turned out to be mplayer.exe and TELNET.EXE) and Windows XP restored them.

I'll let you know if I run across anything else, but I seem to be running clean. McAfee seemed to catch the infection before it spread, but everytime I ran Media Player the virus seemed to try and reactivate. Telnet.exe seemed to be automatically being called at points, but after deletion and recreation I haven't seen the problem return.

This issue must be new enough to not have very many posts. McAfee's VIL was no help whatsoever

Hi! I know, this is an old system. I program using VB but every now and then I need to make a change in an old, forgotten system and I really don't have any experience in Clipper. I hope I can find help in this forum.

I am trying to do a create. I have the following but i keep getting a TYPE MISMATCH error:

cPath = "C:\"
cStr = "TempTab"
SELECT 0
CREATE (cPath + cString)

What could I be doing wrong? I am trying to create an empty table to store the TempTab structure info in a new work area.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Clipper Summer87 Question

What are the datatypes for cstr and cpath?

I do not know clipper, but I would guess you need to caste them to be the same, or the same as CREATE supports.

Also, a quick google makes me think you need to use dircreate to create a folder...

I am using Yankee Clipper III (YC3) under Win7 64bit. Occasionally it looses the boilerplates and I can't get them back other than by recreating them. Under Win XP, according to what I have been able to find, the boilerplates are kept in Program Files/YCIII. That doesn't seem to the the case for Win 7. I have restored the YCIII portion of Program Files X86 from a True Image Backup but the boilerplates are still not there.

Will someone please help me get around the problem of having to recreate the boilerplates each time YC3 looses them?

Thank you very much.

I have used Yankee Clipper for a number of years now and it has been a great deal of help to me, largely because of its simplicity. But after I got XP the YC icon on my System Tray started to disappear, not always, but when it did I couldn't find a way to get the YC window to display. When I would click on the YC icon on my desktop or go to YC in Windows Explorer, I would get a message that YC was already running and to look at the System Tray (where the YC icon was no longer there).

YC told me that the problem must have something to do with XP, but couldn't say what. YC suggested that I click Ctrl/Alt/Y. That sometimes brought up the YC screen but not always. It didn't restore the icon to the System Tray.

I wonder if anyone has a suggestion as to what might be the problem and how I can solve it.

grandpaw7

Answer:Disappearing Yankee Clipper icon

Perhaps it's not in your startup and should be (and used to be)?

Hit Start-->Run and type msconfig and hit enter.
Go to the Startup tab.
Do you see anything that resembles Yankee Clipper?
If you do and it is NOT checked, check it.
If you don't, reinstall Yankee Clipper. See if you're asked if you want it to start when Windows starts (or to put an icon in the system tray) and say "yes".

I want to ask about porting / converting ancient (20 years old!) dBase / Clipper source code and files to Modern Windows XP environment.

Should I use Codebase and re-compile the program for Microsoft C?

http://www.codebase.com/products/

Is there any other better / simpler ways to port text only applications?

Thank you.

Answer:Porting dBase/Clipper Source Code And Files

Are you asking if there's any way of automatically converting the source code or you asking whether you you should rewrite the application. Codebase will not convert an XBase DOS program to a windows program. From what I understand Codebase is a library that allows you to manipulate XBase databases (DBase, Clipper, Paradox etc) with a windows language such as Visual Basic.

I cannot figure out how to get all of my email stores moved from my old PC (Windows Vista/Windows Mail) to my new PC (Windows 7/Outlook 2013). Is there a way to successfully do this or do I need to give up?? When trying to use the export function for messages in windows mail it comes up with an error message to say 'The export could not be performed. An error accured while initializing MAPI.' All my email accounts are POP3. I did find the email stores and transfered them manually to the new PC but I opened them on the new PC in outlook then only a small fraction of emails was there and they were all jumbled up and my folder structure did not transfer. Can this transfer be done or not? Hope to get some useful answer. Cheers, Torsten.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to update my Sony VAIO Flip 13 (SVF13N17PXB) with Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. During the installation process (Installing features and drivers part) I get stock on 6% of "features and driver installation" (for like a good 30 min). Then installation get stock on 71% (overall % completion), a time at which I get a BSOD (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE).
After the restart (rolling back to Windows 8.1 of course), I get a windows update error: C1900101-40017.
I suspect this is a driver issue, does anyone have this same problem and knows what might be causing this issue (I successfully updated my Sony VAIO DUO 11 in ~20 minutes with no problem, and my drivers and Windows updates in that computer were really out of date so I don't know what the issue might be).
Thanks everyone beforehand

Can you help me this problems and the other issues of programmes not updating automatically.

I own several computers. Some PC's and a mid-2010 iMac 27 inch. Windows 10 upgrade worked fine on my PC's. After I signed up for the upgrade on my iMac Bootcamp running Windows 7 Ultimate, Apple announced it will not support my particular iMac version. I
have tried to no avail to stop the Windows 10 upgrade, which has failed several times. I have uninstalled Windows updates associated with the upgrade: KB 3035583, KB 3033929, and KB2952664, and hidden them in Windows Update. Any suggestions as to how to stop
Windows 10 upgrade? Any work around to install the upgrade on my iMac?

Thanks, Jeff

Hey all,

Firstly I hope i have posted this in the right forum.

As the name states I can not use any of my windows security I know this is because of a fake anti virus i had at one point, I also can't install any other virus protection or firewalls onto my computer.

I'm assuming this has to do with what the virus has done with my computers registry, correct me if I'm wrong.

I want to restore my registry back to its default I have tried the reg restore /? command in cmd but it comes up with (see attached picture) and am not sure what this means or for the next step for me to take to continue the command.

Is there any down side to restoring my registry to its default as well?

When I upgraded I lost use of the bluetooth service on my HP Pavillion DV7 notebook with
Intel Centrino Wireless-N o + WiMAX 6150 chip. The bluetooth driver was not working and identified as the Atheros driver. I went to the Intel site and downloaded and updated the latest Wimax 6150 driver for Windows 10 64 bit and
also updated the laptop chipset. The bluetooth driver was unchanged.
Upon further reading on the Intel site, I read that when the Wimax 6150 is using Windows 7, the bluetooth driver is Atheros, but when using Windows 8.1, or 10, it requires a Wimax 6150 bluetooth driver. Fair enough, except that Intel
does not offer this particular driver!
I tried first to update the Atheros driver, but it said it was the latest one, and up to date. I then deleted the Atheros driver hoping that its replacement would be installed with the Wimax 6150 update, but nothing happened. Now,
in Device Manager, I no longer have a line for bluetooth since I deleted the Atheros driver. Can someone point me to a site that has a Wimax 6150 bluetooth driver for Windows 10- I'd like to use my bluetooth service on this laptop!

Hello. I have a question.

When I disable the Aero Snap (& consequently Aero Shake) option, I notice that my mouse/pointer scheme is also changed to "None" from the Windows 7 default setting "Windows Aero (system scheme)". When I turn back on "Windows Aero (system scheme)", I turn back on Aero Snap (& consequently Aero Shake) option.

I want to have the "Windows Aero (system scheme)" for my mouse/pointers scheme, but disable the Aero Snap (& consequently Aero Shake) option. How can I do that? Can I? What do I need to do?

I am assuming it may not be through conventional means (like checking boxes or changing drop down menus), but changes to file paths or registries maybe?

Please reply.

Thank you!

Stand corrected now... ...When I turn back on "Windows Aero (system scheme)", I DO NOT turn back on Aero Snap (& consequently Aero Shake) option. Good. I do not know what was happening then??? Maybe someone can still elaborate.

Microsoft plans to release the latest version of Windows 10 Technical Preview build (Windows 10 Consumer Preview build) in the third or fourth week of January, 2015. The Consumer Preview build will include many new features and improvements in addition to the features that we have already seen in the officially released Windows 10 9841 and 9879 builds.

When Microsoft releases the consumer preview (Windows 10 Technical Preview for consumers) build of Windows 10 in January, existing users who are running the official Windows 10 9879 build will be able to upgrade to the latest build by retaining data and installed programs.

For users who would like to perform a clean install of the latest build Microsoft will offer ISO image of the same. Users can then install Windows 10 on a virtual machine or prepare the bootable USB to install Windows 10 from USB on PC.

For those Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users who would like to upgrade their existing installation to the latest Windows 10 Preview build in January, Microsoft has released a free tool which will automatically serve you the latest Windows 10 Preview build via Windows Update in early 2015. That is, in simple words, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users can upgrade to Windows 10 Preview via Windows Update when the official preview is made available in early 2015.

To get Windows 10 Preview via Windows Updates in early 2015, you just need to download and run a small tool named Prepare Windows 8.1/7 for Windows Technical Preview build. ... Read more

I implement Point of Sale systems. Currently our POS network may have a mix of Windows platforms, mostly 7 Pro and 8.1. Windows updates need to be installed, but we handle this process manually, with the setting "download updates but let me choose
when to install them". I'm looking for a way that our clients can sit down periodically on the main computer and install updates (during non-business hours), and also push them out to the other computers in the workgroup (which may be on a different OS).
Is this possible?

There are many programs that are using a shared file on the server from clients from XP to Windows 10. From time to time it seems like there is a network outage and the handle to the file is broken and the file
cannot be read or updated. It seems more prevalent on a Windows 2012 server but may have happened from time to time on 2008 & 2008 R2. However there are not any network problems so it just leaves the server & Client

I have searched for possible resolutions including:-

Turning  off the Cache for the share

Disabling the network adapter power setting to allow windows to put the device to sleep.

Disabling  Antivirus/configuring it to ignore folders for on access scanning

Disabling SMB  Signing

Configuring the  clients DWORD registry value SilentForcedAutoReconnect=1 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\NetCache

Setting the "NET CONFIG SERVER /AUTODISCONNECT:-1" to not drop client
connections

The last bit of trouble shooting that I can think of is to disable SMB2 and SMB3 as that does a lot of caching and batching of packets which could also be the cause of the problem.

I have looked at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2696547/en-us

I have disabled SMB2&3 on the server as that is very straight forward.
When I get to the section about disabling SMB2 on the client the command fails.

Hello.
I have an HP laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 on an HP Pavilion dm4-Notebook PC.
It has 6.00 GB of installed memory and a 64 bit operating system. Windows is activated and I have Product ID.

I download Windows 10 but could not deal with it and rolled back to Windows 7. Now my Windows Live Mail 2011 does not work correctly. I keep getting a message "Recovering Windows Live Mail database. I get part of my mail and part of it can no longer be opened or deleted. I have figured out that when I rolled back to Windows 7 a second database was created into which mail is also going. How to I rectify this issue?

I am not very technically inclined, so I need very specific instructions on how to fix this. Is there anyone out there who will help me. I have been laid off from work and have no funds to take this into a shop to be repaired, and I am frantic!

Thank you,

Tiny Trish

Answer:Rolled Back Windows 10 to Windows 7 - Now big Windows Live Mail issues

If the accounts are IMAP you can recreate them in the mail client and it will download all the mail afresh from the remote server. But if they are POP you have to work with the local database. Even if they are IMAP I would make a backup of the existing database.

Windows XP Has More Users than Windows Vista and Windows 8 Combined, Avast Says

Security company Avast has published global Windows usage data as part of the PC Trends Report (PDF document) for the first quarter of 2017, revealing that Windows 7 continues to lead the market with a share that?s close to 50 percent.

While it?s important to note that these figures come from computers running Avast, they do align with the statistics provided by research firms whose main activity is monitoring operating system usage, so there?s a good chance these are accurate.

First and foremost, there?s leader Windows 7. According to Avast, the operating system launched in 2009 is currently powering more than 56 million computers where its antivirus product is installed, and this means a share of no less than 48.35 percent.

Windows 10 is growing, the security firm says, and it managed to reach a share of 30.46 percent, which accounts for a little over 35 million devices running Avast security software.

Windows XP still a super-popular choice
But what?s a little more worrying for everyone, including here Microsoft, users, and Avast itself, is that Windows XP, which was launched in 2001 and no longer receives security updates since April 2014, is still running on more than 6.5 million computers. This means that it has a share of 5.64 percent, more than Windows 8 (2.51 percent) and Windows Vista (2.08 percent) combined.

Windows 8 was launched in 2012 as Microsoft?s new revolutio... Read more

just curious on what the differences were between xp pro and xp media center edition and then what was better about vista...

Answer:windows xp vs windows xp media center edition vs windows vista

Vista isn't out yet and there are going to be many versions of it, more than XP. XP Pro is the professional version, it has more options open, security options and all that stuff, but these options aren't exactly built for people who don't know what they're doing. So yea... more "professional" options. Media center is like the OS for really dumb ppl who want just want to watch media. It's all basic-like (http://www.lighttek.com/images/mediacenter.jpg), but it has lots of apps for TV tuners and dvd players and all that so you can use your comp as a TV.

I currently have a system running legitimate copies of windows 7 &8.1 on separate partitions on the same drive. Not using any special boot loader, just dual boot menu in windows. Would like to know the best way to upgrade the windows 8.1 while keeping the windows 7 install and not changing mbr or menu at startup other than to change 8.1 to 10. Seen many tutorials on adding to a single boot to make dual, but not much on existing dual boot systems. Should I download the iso or run from invitation in Windows 8.1? Thanks for any help

Answer:Windows 10 upgrade on existing Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 Dual Boot

The only way to obtain an activated Win10 Upgrade is to run it from inside the Windows version you want to upgrade. If you boot from a DVD or USB and run it that way, it will never activate.

Also, the upgrade WILL change the OS selection menu -- I don't believe there is any way around that.

Optiplex 7040's were supposed to ship with Windows 10. They have Windows 7 on them.
First issue, the DVD that comes with the Optiplex 7040 does not work. I've tried the different BIOS settings, doesn't matter. I've tried every option on the DVD, never get an option to install Windows 10. Every option takes me to reset or restore Windows 10.
Is this the correct DVD? What's up with this?
I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO, and installed Windows 10 with no issues, other than now I need a license key. I worked through an online chat with Microsoft to verify the product key, and from that computer I made an image to push down to the others.  Hopefully I will not have any licensing issues on these computers in the future.
By Microsoft definition of "You bought a new device running Windows 10," there should be an assigned "Product key." --> Pre–installed on your device, included with the device packaging, or included as a card or on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) attached to the device."
Does Dell issue a product key for Windows 10?
I've never seen one on any Dell documentation. On the Dell Optiplex 9020's there is a sticker on them that says "Windows 7 Pro" and it has a product key.
On the new Optiplex 7040's (that are supposed to be licensed for Windows 10) there is no such sticker. No Windows 7 or Windows 10 license key.

Answer:Windows 10 on Optiplex 7040: Windows 7 is installed and Windows 10 DVD does not work.

Nobody issues a key for 8 or 10 its in the bios.
There should be a Windows Genuine label that says Windows or PRO windows.

Hello All,

I currently have a PC running Windows 7 that I would like to install Windows 10 on in order to try it out and see how it performs. I want to dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 10, along with Linux Mint, which I plan to install last.

My question is concerning licensing. I would like to try Windows 10, either in a trial state or unlicensed, but my concern is that by doing a clean install alongside Windows 7 that Windows 10 will see the Windows 7 license and de-activate it and activate itself.

Am I correct in assuming that this will not happen and that the only way Windows 10 will get activated is if I do an upgrade installation or later purchase a separate product key / license?

Thanks!

Answer:Install Windows 10 along side Windows 7, keeping Windows 7 activated

Hi,

Windows 10 will get activated is if I do an upgrade installation

As I expect you know, the official period for upgrading for free is long over. It's true that people found Win 10 was activated for a long time after the official date. I'm told people still find it works. There was also a concession for certain groups of people which extended that period.

I looked at the precise license terms, and my strict reading of them is that you can't have two activated installations on the same PC - even if they have different licenses. One activation- one PC. You might get an interpretation of that from MS. That seemed to catch someone out who had a 32 bit and a 64 bit installation of Win 10, for example. Or that might just have been a quirk. Maybe MS has tightened the check.

But then you can ask - well, what about Win 7 vs Win 10? Win 10's basis of activation is different- so in practice, would MS actually cross check between builds of Windows? And anyway, do they actually have a record of Win 7 licenses vs machines at all, in the way they have for Win 10?

For interest, the 'recommended' way:
Dual Boot Windows 10 with Windows 7 or Windows 8 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

If you were to clean install Win 10 on a separate disk with Win 7 on another disk or partition, you can direct Win 10 where it is to be installed.

I'm sure you'll get appropriate comment on establishing the dual boot from someone who's done it that way.

The only thing that comes close are the xbox video and music apps, but you always have vlc among other. Microsoft has said that they will remove Windows Media center at some point

I'm have a very similar problem described by member Eterna1 on 9-05-12. I copied and pasted the question below. Here is the link Windows Update and Windows Defender not working
It was resolved then so i'm hoping I can get the same help. would really appreciate any help.

Answer:B540 - Failure configuring Windows Updates - Windows 8 to windows 8.1

hi Geam79,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Run this Windows Update Automated Troubleshooter to fix common Windows Update errors.
2. If the Failure configuring Windows update appears then does a roll back then there's likely a problem with one of the updates that are getting installed.

To isolate, set Windows Update to "never check for updates" (see this guide)  then install them one by one (oldest ones first) or by group of two, three, or five and observe.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

I wanted to upgrade Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1 RTM.
I downloaded the ISO file from the MSDN site. I right-clicked and selected Mount to open the files in Explorer.
I clicked on Setup to start the upgrade process. After entering the serial key, etc, I reached the following screen, which allowed me to Keep personal files only or Nothing.
I was not offered the option to keep installed applications and settings.
So I burned the ISO image to DVD. I made sure that my PC was set to first boot from DVD/CD/etc.
I then installed the Installation DVD and rebooted. My PC booted using the DVD.
After entering the serial key, etc, I reached the following screen, which allowed me to Upgrade Windows, keeping files, settings and applications intact.
Selecting the Upgrade Windows option, to me took the following screen, which mentioned the following message: The computer started using the windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation media and restart the upgrade.
I exited the installation and booted into my Windows 8 Pro RTM.
I also tried running the setup from the DVD by right-clicking > Open > Setup. But nothing helped.
I have not been able to find any Microsoft resources on how to upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 RTM keeping files, settings, installed applications intact. I have tried these suggestions at Microsoft Answers, but it did not help. I was still offered t... Read more

Can someone tell me how to get my windows vista mail to windows 7 live mail?

One problem: the windows vista mail is on a hard drive that is non bootable... I have access to the drive via an installation as a second drive on a windows 7 machine.

So I can see the vista mail folder. Is there a way to get the emails and import them to windows live mail?

Reloading windows vista is not an option.

thanks

Answer:Windows vista folder to windows live mail in windows 7

My original Windows Mail is currently on my Vista Gateway PC.

I recently purchased a new PC (Win 7) and want to move, copy, restore (whatever) all of that original mail from my Vista PC to my new Win 7 PC.

Some facts to know:

Email is on my Vista PC, version 6 Windows Mail.

I have set up windows Mail on my new PC (Win 7) and version is Windows Mail 2012

I already have some email on my new Win 7 PC.

Can I export mAIL from my old PC to an external hard drive and use that as the tool to import Mail on new pc?

Anxiously awaiting a response that will let me do this.

Don

Answer:T430s upgraded to Windows 8 Pro wanting to downgrade to Windows 7 (without Windows.old)

Good day and welcome to the community.

As you mention that you've created the recovery media and it is failing to restore your system with the delivered Win7 preload, I would recommend that you contact Service, let them know that your created set has failed to work and request that they provide you with a factory recovery DVD set. Contact information is below.

Hope this helps you get things sorted.
Regards.

I had a Windows 7 and Ubuntu dual boot. I chose to upgrade to Windows 10 but it failed causing me lose both my Ubuntu and Windows 7. I reinstalled Windows 7 using the recovery CD and was able to find all my Windows 7 data under Windows.old folder. I did not move this data to the new Windows 7 installation. I later chose to retry upgrading to Windows 10. This time the upgrade worked smoothly. However when I logged on to Windows 10, I see it has a Windows.old folder but does not have any data.
I think the upgrade only recovers data from previous installation however there is any data under windows.old folder in the previous installation that will not be recovered. Is there any way I can get this data back?
Thank you in advance.

Answer:Data that was in windows.old folder in Windows 7 is deleted on Windows 10 after upgrade

Thank you in advance. I think the upgrade might have created a new Windows.Old folder after deleting the existing one, which caused your data to be lost. You should have copied the data back to your windows 7 installation.

I love Windows 10 and am actually surprised at how much I prefer its UI on a tablet to 8.1 after having used it for just a month. However, there is one app I can't do without that doesn't work on it yet, so I'm rolling back temporarily. (If that app doesn't get updated, I may end up taking my business to the app's competitor and going back to 10.)
At any rate, once a machine is licensed via activation for Windows 10, is it always licensed? If I roll back and use 8.1 for another year, will I be able to re-activate when I re-upgrade? Or will I be out of luck because it will be out of Microsoft's free-upgrade time period?

Answer:If I roll back from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1, will the License for Windows 10 still be active?

Once licensed, always licensed.

this is a previous post on your site i have a similar problem with a few differences:

''Hi all

Short version is that I bought a new Hp laptop with pre-installed Windows 8. Didn't like W8 for many reasons so tried to install windows 7 according to guided installation instructions from a techie site google took me to. The installation stopped after 30 minutes, referring to a driver issue I believe, and I had to revert to loading up using Windows 8 again to get out of the dos error screen.

Now the system tells me how I get (inconsistent) blue screens although I don't physically see a blue screen, and every day I boot up, it reverts to the 'Windows Boot Manager' screen, telling me a recent hardware or software change has resulted in something missing, damaged, etc.

Additional message when in the Boot Manager reads:

File: \$Windows-BT\Windows\System32\winload.efi
Status: 0xc0000428
Info: the digital signature for this file could not be verified.

Although Im not an expert, it seems to me that the file path mentioned above relates to the part installation of windows 7 - if so, how can I remove the part installation, clean the system up, and reluctantly return to W8?

[btw - unable to get help from Windows or Samsung so far] ""

My problem is the same as this person except I can not log into windows at all. All i get is HP with a little loading spiral at the bottom i left it alone for 2 days on and it never loaded windows. I was able to g... Read more

I live in rural Thailand and after a computer crash, the only choice the local IT shop were offering was to install windows 7. So I did it. But now I have a copy on windows 7.
The computer was bought in France and I live in Thailand. So I can't go to the reseller.Computer is a packard bell, fitted with windows 8 from the factory I think. There is a sticker under the laptop.
How can I become legal again ?
Thanks

Answer:I had to replace my windows 8 by a fake windows 7 (had no choice !). Can I get back windows 8 ?

Can you obtain Windows 8 media for your computer? (From HP site, etc)
If so, as long as your previous Windows 8 install was activated, you can install Windows 8 again and it should activate again.
