Outlook 2003 - one user suddenly suddenly cannot access mailbox, please help

Question: Outlook 2003 - one user suddenly suddenly cannot access mailbox, please help

When one user tries to run Outlook, this error comes up:

outlook.ost cannot be accessed because it has been configured for use with a different mailboxClick to expand...

It won't even let me get into Outlook to check settings because when I fail to browse to the file, it closes Outlook. Why is this happening? How to resolve?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I just launched my email and I've lost everything. It looks like a whole new program has launched (Outlook Express 6), whereas I used to have Outlook 2003. The only thing I can think of is I needed to find my email password to set up email on my mobile, so I went to Start/Programs, but all I could find was Outlook Express 6. Perhaps an automatic update has taken place. Anyway, I went to Tools/Accounts/double clicked on my username/Servers, but the password was blanked out. I therefore killed the program, but when I hit the email button on my keyboard to launch Outlook 2003, Outlook Express 6 launched, which has no emails at all.

The only thing I can think that has changed since yesterday is my Norton 360 Antivirus software expired today and I intend buying an update tomorrow. Perhaps there's a connection? What do you think happened, are my old emails stored somewhere, and how can I restore Outlook 2003?

Answer:Solved: Outlook 2003 Suddenly Replaced by Outlook Express 6

When you launched Outlook express do you remember that box that came up and said something along the lines of:

"outlook express is currently not your default mail application, do you want it to be?"
and you clicked yes without reading it properly...?

Well it has done exactly that. You have two email apps on your computer, one of them has to be default. when you did that you changed it to outlook express. Luckily for you it is easy to fix.

All you need to do is go into the Start menu and find Outlook 2003 and run it. It will prob be under All programs > Microsoft Office> Outlook. Run it and then you will get the same prompt as you did for outlook express about making it the default app, choose yes to this. This will now make Outlook 2003 your default email app again and fix your problem.
Let us know if this works.

I have the Windows 8 Developer Preview OS on my computer. Last time I restarted my computer I couldn't log back in to my primary user account. The email was correct and I typed the same password as I always use but it kept saying the email or password was incorrect. And to be clear I absolutely know I'm using the right password. It seems like the password changed itself somehow. Basically now I can't access that account and am having to use a secondary user account that doesn't have much on it. Can anyone help me gain access to my main user account? Or change the password somehow? I've tried about everything I can find on Google and nothing seems to work. Thank you

outlook 2003 receives emails but doesn't send them. it receives just fine, but emails i send are sent to my 'sent' folder' but are actually never delivered. i have visited with ISP for hours and we have determined it is a 2003 outlook problem/corruption. I have discs, and if i install outlook again, without deleting my older version, will my pst information go to the new installation? i have plenty of backups, but i am nervous about deleting the old, faulty version before i reinstall.

Answer:outlook 2003 has suddenly quit sending emails.

Uninstalling Outlook will not remove your profile or pst file which contains all your messages & contacts, because your pst file is located in a separate folder under your username. However, you should not rely on this. You should always keep a backup of your pst file (and all your other files) on a removable storage medium (eg pendrive or CD) in case your hard drive fails and you lose everything!I don't know where your pst file is specifically located on Windows XP as I stopped using XP years ago, so you'll have to refer to this:http://www.ehow.com/how_8311728_pst...

I have Outlook 2003; email send/receive was working fine; have not changed any settings. All of a sudden, I can't send or receive mail and I am getting an error msg: connection to server interrupted oX800CCC0f. It's as though ATT has changed their settings. I've also tried logging into my ATT Yahoo mail account, which worked fine yesterday, and now it doesn't recognize my password today. I haven't changed my password. Need help please!

If you logged in via web service it sounds like the account has been compromised - when google comes under attack or sees a suspect problem on the accounts - it disables - I have had this happen a few times to friends and family - and often once the account has been re-opened using a recovery process , I see that an ISP from china has tried to access the account

look into how to recover the account with yahoo - not an expert here - i would say thats the issue on the yahoo side and not your outlook

Hello: I use XP with service pack 3 and Outlook Express as my email.  My email address is at gmail and the way I set it up when I first got it, way back when gmail first started, was that when I checked my OE mail, it automatically pulls down (or whatever you call it) my new email from gmail.  For the past three days, however, this isn't happening.  My OE automatically keeps checking and I get the message that my POP is not responding--wait or cancel.  If I choose wait, nothing  happens, except that I get another message later, over and over.    I haven't changed any settings or anything. What can I do about this to get my email coming back to me automatically? I can go to the gmail site with no problem and see and respond to my mail but I like to have it in my OE so I can deal with it offline as I get a lot of mail. Thanks for your help.

I take it you've checked your gmail settings?  Sometimes these things change without warning.  Just a thought.Lorri.

Hi everyone,
I'm stuck on a problem that I've been trying to fix over the last little while now to no avail.
I'll try and describe the problem as best as possible in hopes that someone might know what to do... so heres what happened

A user's account got screwed up, so I deleted it so I could recreate an account for him using the same username. I forgot to use exchange tasks to remove\change permissions on his mailbox on our server, so now there is a mailbox sitting there with no way to access it.

I've tried going through server manager but when I go to right click and select exchange tasks on the mailbox in question I don't get any options. If it is possible the best thing that could happen would be for a way to make it so that the new account (same login name and everything, but with a different SID) has access to the old mailbox, and if not at least for a way to delete the mailbox so that I can recover it and change its permissions (which I can't do because there are no exchange tasks associated with it)

Thanks anyone that can help!

Answer:Deleted user, Exchange 2003 mailbox problem

in Exchange system manager right click on the mailboxes folder where the mailbox resides and run mailbox cleanup agent. Give that some time to process and then go and try and reconnect the mailbox.

I found a tread in this site and need some help and advice on how to make it work for a shared mailbox that about 10 peolpe will be working out of. It's been a while since the thread had any posts so I thought to create a new post and reference the code. I'm new to vba and I'm at a lost as to how I can get this code to work for my shared mailbox situation at work .

Here is the link to the tread I found with the code:
http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/439567-outlook-reply-email-when-mail.html

I was able to use the code and apply it to my 'ThisOutlookSession' and it works great for my personal mails . However, I want to be able to use this code on multiple folders within the shared mailbox. Also, depending on the folder that any of the 10 people working out of the shared mailbox move the email item to he/she will trigger either a "processing" email reply or "completed" email reply to the sender. And lastly, do I have to set this code up for each computer or can I just setup this code on my outlook?
Code:
'##############################################
Option Explicit
'##############################################
'### all code for the ThisOutlookSession module
'### Module level Declarations
'expose the items in the target folder to events
Dim WithEvents TargetFolderItems As Items

So I've been using Outlook 2003 to access my AOL (IMAP) for years. Computer died - I saved my "Application Data - MSFT - Outlook" directory and loaded onto new computer. However, my "Sent Items" archive is not in there. Outlook HAD kept a copy of every message I'd sent over the last three years. (AOL does NOT keep a copy).I did a search for *.PST (which is what I remember from my Outlook Express days) - nothin'.Before IT erases my old machine, any idea what file(s) may have that info stored? Thanks!rjb

We are using Windows 2000 Server and Exchange 2000.

In the AD console I've given myself "full mailbox access" to a another users mailbox under Exchange Advanced --> Mailbox Rights. Then I opened up services in Outlook 2000, properties on Exchange server, and added the users mailbox to the "Mailboxes" dialog. When I try to open the "Mailbox - <users name>" in the Folder list in Outlook 2000, I just get "Unable to display folder. The information store could not be opened."

How come? The particular users mailbo I'm trying to read is a disabled account, but the same happened to a normal active account (I tried that too).

I've search microsoft.com and the web but haven't found a solution yet...

We're looking to setup a 400mb limit (yes I know it...big) on users and also create an autoarchive pst on their local computer to unload email from the server older than a month. What would be the easiest way to go about both things without having to go to each machine? Would need to do the autoarchive part before we implemented the limit.

I have Microsoft Outlook 2003 on a few computers. It appears that they get their emails from a local server which is defined as the MS Exchange Server. (Box ticked for Use Cached Exchange Mode). Outlook is then configure with my username to pull my emails of the server (i guess...). I get an email to my company email from an external source (not company email) that is CC to another company email address, and I will get a duplicate email in my inbox. If it is CC to 2 people I will get 2 duplicates (3 messages in total) This leads me to believe that outlook is not configured to pull the right emails from the server right? However, when receiving an email from an internal source (company email) and it is CC to another compnay member, I only get 1 copy. When dealing with 1 to 1 emails, everything works fine. Any ideas?

Hiya all,I am using Outlook 2003 and I have set up 2 email accounts on it account1 and account 2. Every time someone sends me an email to account 1, Outlook informs me that an email has been received by icon being displayed in the system tray along with a mail received sound. However when ever someone sends an email to account 2 this does not happen which is a little annoying as I have to keep maximising Outlook to check if I have any new emails. How do I get Outlook to display an icon in the system tray and play a email received when either account 1 or account 2 has recived emailCheers

I usually like to leave my computer on overnight. So I go offline, disable my wireless, and put on a video playlist in full screen to help me sleep. Anyway, today I woke up and saw the Windows Media Player no longer full screen, and the wireless switch was actually turned on. This is strange because I know I turned wireless off and I frequently check my system with Malwarebytes.

What could this be? Did someone snoop in my computer? Thanks in advance for the support.

Exchange 2003 running on server 2003. We recieve some very sensitive e-mails and want to restrict access to the mailbox to a single machine. We would like to use Outlook express as the E-mail client if possible. Is it possible? Can anyone help?

Yes, create a user account in Active Directory Users and COmputers with a password. Once it is set no one can access the account without the proper network login. Use roaming profiles as well.

By default, when you print an email in memo style the mailbox name is printed in the upper left-hand corner. Any way to turn this off? So far I haven't been able to find this option.

Thanks

Answer:Outlook 2003 - Print an email sans the mailbox name

Maybe this will help. Does anyone know what the section directly above the header information is called on an email printed from Outlook 2003?

On my email print outs it has my mailbox info listed and then a solid dark line/border and then the normal header info.

This is driving me mad!!!!

Thanks for any and all help....

Hey all.

So a group on our team uses a shared mailbox. Often times this mailbox needs to have the auto reply function changed. We are aware that the auto reply can be changed by logging onto that shared mailbox, however it is very inconvinient as we don't want the users to have access to anything other than the ability to edit the Auto Reply, so therefore want to keep the password restricted.

Any suggestions for this?

Answer:Outlook 2003 - Auto Reply Shared Mailbox

There really is no way to do it other than via the Outlook client. If you are on an Exchange server it can be done with third party tools.

Hello, and thank you for reading this.

As of just today, for some weird reason, my computer has just started to hiccup and freeze out of nowhere, and it's more prominent with any program that uses the internet (i.e. Firefox, Steam, etc), but it freezes up the entire computer along with the program.

This is especially aggravating as just yesterday, my computer was working absolutely fine with no hitches or sudden slow downs, but by today, it just starts to act this way, despite me doing anything to the computer at the time.  I have also ran a complete virus scan twice to no avail, and I tried using System Restore, only for it to fail.

I'm currently running under Windows Vista Home Premium x64. I've attached a HijackThis Log, if anyone can read that.
 HijackThis Log.txt   13.05KB
  2 downloads

I would hope that this doesn't turn out to be a hardware issue, so if this is something of a software issue, I would hope I could fix this, as I really need my computer as it has important school files and such.

I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on an old Lenovo laptop and on a new Lenovo laptop, and have spent a lot of time moving programs and data from the old to the new laptop. When I start up the old laptop the initial screen shows that I am the owner. For some reason unknown when I startup the new laptop, the one I'm using now to send this message, the screen shows that I am a user. This seems to be causing problems with some of the software I use.

What have I done wrong, and how do I get back to being the owner on this computer? I'm sorry if this is a basic simple mistake I've made, but my computer knowledge is limited.

Answer:I've suddenly become a user!

Yes if you are a Local User, it can cause issues. If you moved programs from one computer to the other. There can be incompatibility issues, if you did not just install the software on the new computer. Instead you just moved the directories over, which does not work with any OS, because the settings for the programs are kept in the Registry and a few other places.

give User Read Only access to secondary mailbox in Exchange 2010 via AD.
In Exchange 2010 - the only option is to give a User full mailbox access of other mailboxes, along with Send As permission.

How can I configure 'Read Only" access to a mailbox, via AD.
I know how to do it on the mapi/User level - by delegating mailbox folders.

My idea so far is to create security group, add the user and grant read only permission. - not working or I'm missing a step.

Hi,

Every now and again I have to create a new user accounts for one of my pupils. It is very easy to create a standard account.

But suddenly I cannot do it. The system will not let me. The account is created, I log out then I enter that new account o activate it and then and error message comes up.

I could not copy and paste it, but it said something about cannot create profile. No reason given.

I tried it with administrator account, I did the usual virus scan but most drastically I did about 5 system restores which usually helps, and yet I cannot cannot create them.

I have googled this problem and it seam common, yet nobody as fa as I can see has resolved it.

This is a difficult one. I have spent ages on this could somebody help. I need these separate accounts.

Many thanks, Ceira.

Answer:Suddenly I cannot create any user accounts

Hi Ceira,

Does the error say anything else? Such as a error code?

Maybe if you make it an Administrator account. Try to access it then, if you can access it just change the settings within that account to standard?

i recently had a virus problem which i thought i fixed by using the new microsoft security essentials.

i after (i think) i got rid of the malicious stuff i proceeded to prep my files for backup just in case

when i restarted i suddenly could not get past the user account log-in screen

it gives me the message:

"this copy of windows must be activated with microsoft before you can log on"

so i go ahead and choose the activate via the internet option, it then goes on to tell me that "windows will now dial a telephone number to activate windows with microsoft"

but then after several tries it just says "online service are temporarily available" and ive been re-dialing for a full day.

when i click remind me later, it just logs off and the process just repeats itself

the telephone option is out of the question since i am in the philippines and i cannot call abroad.

what i would really like to ask is:

if i buy and IDE 2.5" enclosure for my laptop hard disk and plug it in to another computer as a slave drive, would i be able to copy my files without the windows nag-screen? i just really need to get some important office files and just reformat windows.

thanks in advance,

just last night i was working on a photoshop image that took me about 10 hours to edit and i would really die inside if i wasnt able to save it plus some other files.

Answer:suddenly cant acces windows XP user account

Do you have a recovery CD or recovery partition? Yes you should be able to access the data from another computer with the enclosure. But if your looking to reload Windows again,it'll still ask to be activated after the install.

Hello,

We have a Toshiba satellite P755  with a core i3 processor running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium.
We use Avast running in real time and also run MBAM scans regularly.
Windows is set to automatically update daily.

Our last scan which caught anything was an Avast boot scan on Sept 7 which caught (and quarantined) 9 infected temp files.

We used Avast's Safe Zone on Sept 27 and our computer began to act up.  We got an error message about a script causing a hang-up or something, "do you want to kill the page?"  Our Safe Zone browser quit responding; and we couldn't exit Safe Zone, so we had to do a hard shut down.

Now our computer takes 15-30 minutes to start up and our task bar and windows look odd.  An error message shows on the bottom right which reads:

Failed to connect to a windows service
Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service.  This problem           prevents standard users from logging on to the system.  As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond.

We've tried more Avast boot scans and  MBAM full scans, but no infections are indicated.  We don't know what to do.  Please help. Thank you.

Answer:suddenly very sluggish computer / cannot log on as standard user

Hey ir0nman,

For sluggish computers I highly recommend checking out the sticky in this forum, "Slow Computer?" found here:

Start there, work through the steps, and post back your results. It helps to knock out the basics first so we can dive into deeper troubleshooting.

MAIN PROBLEM: This past week, suddenly, my main account just mysteriously 'changed itself' to a restricted "unknown" account. Can't even get into System Restore.DETAILS:I own and operate a two way communications business for 45+ years. Had an awesome IT and general coding wizard (whom I will initial JEF in case anyone else out there knew him) who built and set up all my business computers and network. This incredible man suddenly passed away. All continued normal with all my PCs for many months, until this past week, when suddenly, my main account on my main computer just mysteriously 'changed itself' to a restricted account. Now I have no admin privileges at all. i.e. Can't write digital pictures to a DVD, cannot format a disk, so it's become a limited account. It's my @#$%!! business, and I paid a mint for this PC, so my question is...Is there a virus out there that does this? I know that a true hacker can change these things, so I'm guessing that I've been violated. If so, what is the work around? I have searched the archives here many times for similar situations before posting, and I've found that many times it is explained that one can start in safe mode, and change the type of account back to an admin account. I don't know if it's that simple, but I would sincerely appreciate any additional input from you pros out there if it isnt going to be this easy. This has affected my business and there are radio programming files on my main PC that I need to be able to... Read more

Answer:Main user account suddenly restricted

P.S. Now instead of "Computer Administrator" under my main name, it says, "Unknown account type". How can WINXP not know what type of account my main account is; unless it has been messed with? I'm baffled. Could one of the grandkids have done this by accident? I have people and and businesses depending on me, I really really need you guys to lend a hand. Please. Thank you in advance. If you have any questions PM me or whatever.

When sniffing around my system in "Credential Manager", I found an unknown set of credentials known as "virtualapp/didlogical" which after a vague research, I deleted. CHECK THIS OUT...

Attachment 62236

After I deleted it, I finished my work and shut down my machine. A few hours later I went to login to my laptop using the same login credentials i've used since system setup....I COULDN'T LOGIN!!

After a tiny shart, I had the wherewithall to google "lost Win 8 passward" and found https://account.live.com/password/reset to reset my password. During login I was able to click on the wifi icon (bottom left) and connect to the internet and presumably my computer updated my new password via Microsoft's Server, and I logged in with the new password.

This. Is. Baffling.

And whats weirder...Once I fired up my computer and went to Credentials Manager again, the mysterious "virtualapp/didlogical" was back.

1. Why is my personal login connected to this weird "domain-like" service? My PW should be stored on my local machine NOT a Microsoft Server. This isn't a corporate environment where my personal login password is supposed to somehow be corporate knowledge.

2. How did this mysterious credential get recreated without my consent!!

Thoughts?!?

I installed Dragon 9 and have been using it for a few days and now all of a sudden today when I tried to run the program, I got an error saying it cannot access the user files, and I may not have privileges or another program may be using them. It is pointing to the correct location of the files, and they are there, I don't know why it suddenly won't open them. I tried restarting, and I tried copying the files to another location and then pointing to that location but it says the same error. help please??

I can't figure this out. Printing's been working fine up until about a week ago. Suddenly I'm unable to print out of chrome. Whenever I try to print I get an error that says "Printer not Installed" in the browser. I disable the "print preview" chrome has recently implemented but that doesn't work. I reinstall Chrome to no avail. I try to print in Firefox and get a different error... "An Error Occurred while Printing." I do some research and then realize I can't print out of Acrobat Pro. My print settings dialog in Acrobat is unlike any I've ever seen and no options work. I can't change the paper size or access the printer settings from the Acrobat Print Dialog.

Steps I've taken so far:
Reinstalled the printer
Restarted Print Spooler
Deleted the Port
Reinstalled Printer again with new drivers
Successfully Printed Test Pages after each of these steps. Still could not print out of other programs.
Successfully Printed out of MS Word

I logged in under a different user and was able to print out of firefox.

Any ideas?

Answer:Printing suddenly not working in Windows 7 in user profile.

Hi -What happens if you simply use Internet Explorer instead of Chrome or Firefox browsers ??I always use print preview with I.E. as this is printer program enabled, not Operating System and have no problems on XP or Windows7 units. Also are you using the Admin account ??What make and model of Printer and Computer please -

Hi, I have a problem with accessing one particular website from my laptop.

The error message says
The connection has timed out
The server at www.kotak.com is taking too long to respond.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I am unable to access it from any browser- i have tried google chrome, firefox, safari and IE too

The website in question is www.kotak.com, I was able to access the website last week from my computer.
i use an acer aspire 4740G laptop windows 7 and use wifi in office normally to access the website.

the website works perfectly fine on other PCs/laptops in office. It also works on both my phone 3G and wifi as well on phone.

I have tried accessing the website on my home internet connection as well but i am still not able to access it on the laptop. At home i can access it thru my phone though.

So i think its largely an issue with my laptop but i am unable to figure it out. Any help will be highly appreciated.

As stated in the title, all of a sudden my SSD-WIN10PRO - booted in VMware - is creating unknown usernames e.g.:

I've disabled above user for now.

Even though working with a booted SSD in VMware for many years, I've never seen this before. I have no idea why or what is causing this, every time deleting the account, but it keeps coming back with another username. I can't manage to find a direction to check what process is responsible for this. Help much appreciated.

Cheers

Answer:Windows 10 Pro suddenly creates strange - unknown to me - user names?

When does it come back? Immediately or when you reboot? You could have a look in Event Viewer for Event ID 614 (New user created) and see if it gives any clue.

You could also have a look in AutoRuns and see if there is a start up task that is creating a user on startup/logon. Look under "Everything" after selecting "Hide Microsoft Entries" on the "View" tab and see if there is anything odd looking. Like in this case...https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...7-59e78ce027ec

Probably a virus/malware scan would be wise also.

I have a Windows 7 professional 64bit desktop PC. Intel Core 2 quad, 1TB disk SATA2 (plenty of free space) , 8GB Ram DDR2.

I generally access the machine over remote desktop and always have.

I have a few user profiles defined but I have a problem with profile 'terry'. It can be running fine for a few days and then suddenly run so slowly that is can't render the screen completely over several hours.
Whilst in this state, if I attempt to log on directly at the PC and not remotely it sits at the 'welcome' message with a wait cursor forever.

What is confusing is this: Whilst in this state, if I log on remotely using another user, 'kate', everything is fine for that profile.
CPU is at 30% with csrss.exe running at 25%.
Resource monitor tells me that disk IO is low and response times are sub 50ms
From task manager I can see that terry is logged in but disconnected and that kate is logged in and active. Exactly as I would expect.
If I disconnect from kate and connect as terry I see the same problem as before.

So kate is running fine at the same time as terry has ground to a halt!

I have many programs installed and have started to experience this problem after I:
Updated Avast anti-virus program,
installed CrashPlan backup client and service,
installed Private Internet Access VPN,
installed Adobe LightRoom.

I have spent ages trying to eliminate the culprit but since it can take a few days for the problem to show it will take a very long time ... Read more

Answer:One user profile will suddenly grind to a halt while others are running fine

Hi tpot1 I see that issue very often at work on our virtual machines. Usually, it's caused by userprofile corruption. What we do in order to solve this is that we delete the userprofile (not the user), and then we log back in with the user to recreates it, and all the problems goes away. And the problems are exactly the same as yours: the "Welcome" message sits and doesn't go away, slowness, etc. So I suggest you to try this first, and then let me know how it goes.

I am trying to create a link in access 2007 to a passworded mailbox on the exchange server.

I was using the linked table wizard on my inbox, but that specifies the link location as a file on my computer, and this needs to work across a network of users.

I found this link which seems to be exactly what I need, but is in reference to Office 2000:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa164914.aspx

I don't really understand whats going on with it and so don't know if it doesn't work because it is in reference to office 2000 or because of some other problems.

Here is the code I'm using, which should specify subfolder "New Folder" in the inbox

Hi. I have a 796kbps DSL connection (slow, I know), and it's just made up of a DSL modem and my laptop (no routers or anything like that).

I was surfing just fine till about 12 hours ago, and then had to go AFK, so I switched off my modem and my laptop.

Came back about six hours ago and found that I couldn't connect to sites I regularly visit, such as Photobucket, TV Squad and a private torrent site.

I had visited all three of them earlier on in the day.

The sites themselves aren't down, I have ascertained. And when I run pings or tracert commands, I get normal results and responses. But the sites absolutely refuse to load on Firefox, IE and Netscape.

I have restarted both my modem and my laptop and changed the alternate DNS as I was advised to do. I also tried adding an HTTP proxy, and then removing it. Nothing works.

I've been told that since my pings receive responses and the tracert command works, I really should be able to connect to the sites. But I can't.

I didn't install anything before switching off my computer earlier.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong and how I can fix the problem?

Thank you!

I have a laptop running Vista 32bit that was connecting to the Internet just fine until yesterday. Now it won't connect either wirelessly or connected through an Ethernet cable.

Actually, I guess, according to my Network Connections Properties, it is connected, but neither IE, Firefox nor Thunderbird will connect. Avast, however, said it had updated its files this morning.

Yesterday, the first time I was going online, Firefox updated to a new version 3.0.9. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not since IE won't go on either. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hi I am new to this forum and not very computer literate but follow directions well. I have a Dell desktop using Windows XP, a laptop, use Internet Explorer, and a Linksys router and connected to Roadrunner. Everything has been working well for about a year. Suddenly, I cannot access the Internet on my pc, the main computer, although I can on the laptop. When I try to access on my pc, I get a message in the lower left hand corner saying Accessing site -- followed by a bunch of numbers. I tried calling Roadrunner tech but they couldn't help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently working on my laptop. I use Firefox to web browse, and suddenly I am not able to get to some websites such as MySpace.com, RuneScape.com, or the TV Guide's TV Listings website. I ran ATF Cleaner to remove some unwanted cookies, and after that, I can't get to the sites anymore. I don't know if the two are related, but they happened really close together so I figured I'd mention it. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox but it didn't work. I even loaded IE and I cannot get to the sites with that either.

I am suddenly unable to get to Netflix's website (netflix.com). I get can't reach server (Firefox) or page cannot be displayed (IE). Other computers on the same network in my home have no trouble reaching the site and I can get to it on my Kindle. I can access other websites with no problem. After much troubleshooting and research, I also tried accessing it through a proxy site (ixquick) and it appears that I got to the site, but got "you must enable cookies" message which I'm assuming is cookies on the proxy end. Here are some of the troubleshooting steps I've tried:

-clearing both Firefox and IE caches
-release and renew IP
-flush DNS
-renaming hosts file
-connecting with LAN cable instead of wireless
-rebooting the computer several times
-rebooting the modem and router

I'm at my wits end and any help would be most appreciated.

Answer:Suddenly Can't Access One Website

Do a "nslookup www.netflix.com" from both a machine that works and the one that does not. I would suspect that the results will be different.

Hi,

In the last few days, I have the following app. suddenly paralyzed

- Yahoo Messenger v7.50

- Microsoft Antispyware (cannot update)
- CWShredder (cannot update)
while I can surf the web, chat on mIRC, etc. with no hassle.

I have scanned 'n cleaned my PC using these security app.
both in Normal Mode & Safe Mode (all with their latest definition):
- AdAware SE Personal
- Spybot S & D
- ETRemover
- ScanSpyware
- Ewido Security Suite
- McAffee Antispyware
- Webroot Spysweeper
- NOD32
and still the problem persists (those 1st list of app. can't

I'm on Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1.
About a week ago, I installed the Service Pack 2 but due to
some serious inconvenience (some hardware drivers are not

Is there any correlation between the problem 'n SP2 uninstallation?

Hi everybody and Happy New Year!
While on vacation in Jamaica I was suddenly unable to access the Easynews search web page on my netbook running window7 starter. I figured perhaps it was somehow being blocked by the hotel network. All other web sites seem to be fine. When I got home I still couldn't access the web site so I called Easynews support. He asked what browser I was using and I told him IE. He suggested I try firefox. On our main computer we run firefox and I was able to access the website. So I installed firefox on my netbook but STILL wasn't able to access the site. I would get "DNS server unavailable".The 3 other computers on the wireless network also can't access the web page which are running windows7. The only computer that can access it is our main computer which is running windowsXP.. It can't be an Easynews problem as I can get it on the main computer. I've tried system restore, and turning off the windows firewall. Any ideas?
Thanks!

I was helping my father with a pretty mundane matter on his PC (windows XP), and when finished I decided to check his virus status. He appeared not to have any anti virus checker, so I installed a 30 day trial from a recent magazine disc, ran update, and bagan to check his files and folders. While this was running, I clicked on internet explorer, only to be told I could not access this prog, and had I written the correct prog details, etc. This happenned with Outlook Express, paintshop, Word, and all the progs, more or less, in start up programmes (recycle bin's ok). I could still go online through the 'connections' tab in start up, but no e mail or internet platform to use with it. I ditched the virus scan, and checked the directory under 'explore', but the same happenned here. No access. The programmes are still there, but I just could not get into them. Has something happened to the registry? Did I inadvertantly download a virus through the anti virus update (which, incidently, is also innaccessable now, as well!)?Somebody please shed some light on this. I went to help out my old dad, and ended up causing him even more grief, big style! He's 78 and tearing his hair out with the stress of it all!!

Last week I noticed I couldn't access a specific website from my home computer. It's a car enthusiast website, www.mymonte.com

When I first noticed the problem, I was on dial-up and I thought that the site was simply down. However I accessed the site no problem from another computer so that turns out to not be the case. A few days ago I upgraded to DSL, but the problem seems to have carried over since I still cannot access the site.

Thanks in advance

You guys are indispensible when all the support lines are close down.

I have a new PC, Intel core TM2, 1GB RAM, 250GB storage running on 1GB broadband. Yet I cannot access Hi5, it keeps timing out with the usual crap; "The page cannot be displayed - The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site " etc. I have a myriad Christmas messages I can't reply to.

It is not the site, as everyone else I have asked gets through straight away.
Neither is it the provider as other NTL users access Hi5 easily.
I have tried:-
- checking and correcting the Internet Options
- temporarily shutting down Bullguard, at a risk
- deleting Yahoo and Google toolbars altogether (you dont need half a dozen firewalls)
- installing Java Runtime Environment
- installing & running Firefox to try and bypass IE.

Nothing works. Please can anyone help?

Answer:Hi5: suddenly cannot access site.

Hi there! Merry Christmas and all that

Please go to the Malware Removal forum and follow the stickies at the top of the forum. I suspect that this is a malware issue, and if this turns out to be the case, you'll need to make a new thread in that forum with the appropriate details.

Thanks!

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Does BullDog have an option to block 'active script' in it? If after you shutdown BullDog, did you first clean your browser cache before you tried the site again?

That site I'm sure requires cookies and active script to be enabled for it to work.

I'm in SE Asia. Suddenly I can't access www.reddit.com from my home internet connection. I can still access it through the 3g connection on my phone if I tether it to my computer.

I'm guessing the ISP has started blocking the site for some reason? I'm wondering if there is another possible answer.

I noticed that if I try to ping www.reddit.com it says

Pinging a659.b.akamai.net [125.252.224.89] and they all time out.

If I run a tracert, all the results start timing out after it reaches 118.69.249.89 which according to whois belongs to Asia Pacific Network Information Centre.

I don't know if this info is helpful at all.

Answer:Suddenly can't access reddit

I'd start by calling your ISP and seeing if it was blocked or not. Works fine on this end.

My wifi has worked just fine since I got this computer 2 years ago. I mostly just use my laptop for surfing, FB, Youtube, playing games, and watching shows/movies. The speakers on my laptop suck. I clearly remember going to several websites looking for software that would boost the speaker volume and when I downloaded from one of those sites, I got an error that said my computer was infected and to contact a Windows Tech. I knew that pop-up was a scam and ignored it, but I think the damage was done at that point. Out of fear that my computer was infected, I ran Malwarebytes and Avast. When the scans were done, I removed the malware, then suddenly there was no more wifi. I get a message "No internet connections are available" and my laptop stays in airplane mode no matter how many times I push the Wifi button. A few days ago, my Wifi started working again, but only for about 20 minutes.

Outlook 2003 seems to have gone very slow on my PC recently and I cannot work out why. It takes about 20 seconds to download a single email and there is loads of hard drive thrashing going on. It won't have anything to do with the file size since there has been very little change there. It must be something else.

Note that the processor is normally at about 85% when receiving email, probably due to the spam checker and virus checker. But there is loads of hard drive thrashing. Odd.

Anyone have an idea what might be causing such a slowdown? Some time of corruption?

Thanks,

Jon

Hi, I have a problem with accessing one particular website from my laptop.
The error message says
The connection has timed out
The server at www.kotak.com is taking too long to respond.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the .
I am unable to access it from any browser- i have tried google chrome, firefox, safari and IE too
The website in question is www.kotak.com, I was able to access the website last week from my computer.
i use an acer aspire 4740G laptop windows 7 and use wifi in normally to access the website.
the website works perfectly fine on other PCs/laptops in office.

Have a P2P network, all desktops are Windows XP Pro. Laptop is recently purchased and is XP Home. (None are SP2.) Set the laptop up on the network on Saturday, everyone could access it, it could access everyone. Today the desktops cannot even see the laptop and although the laptop can see the workgroup, it says it can't access it.

Oddly, the laptop WILL print to some network printers, although not all. The computer is talking with the network. I've tried pinging computers on the network, though, and they time out. I tried pinging our copier (which has an assigned IP) and it won't ping to that either, although it will print to it. The laptop also is accessing the internet just fine through the router hooked into my computer... I'm so confused why this is happening.

(Also, this same laptop is having email issues, which may or may not be related. See http://forums.techguy.org/t289053.html)

Just recently, when I boot up cold, I have no net access. When I look at network and sharing center, I have listed a private and public network. The public network is new. If I click on view status for the public network and disable it, both networks disapear from the list. I then tell system to repair and the private network comes back on and all is well.

Why is a public network suddenly showing up and how do I stop this from happening?

By the way, once I get rid of the public network and reboot the public network does not show up again, but will show up again on a cold reboot, ie, shut system down, restart, and it's there.

Also, this morning, after going through all of this, I noticed the network notification icon in the taskbar now has a little blue thingie in it's lower right hand corner and I can't for the life of me figure out what that is/what it means.

All help welcome! I am running vista ultimate 64 bit on a desktop PC. No wireless on this PC, though the router is wireless.

Thanks!

Answer:suddenly have public network and no net access....

Hello nelsonsdavis and welcome to VistaX64!

Can you provide a screenshot of your Network and Sharing Center? It should make it easyier to see whats going on and give you a better idea how to fix it also the blue thingy over the network icon shows you your local network internet status.

I am having trouble seeing other computers on our network all of a sudden. I am on an Acer Aspire 5920 running Windows Vista Home Premium and the other computers are running Windows XP. I've had my computer for almost 1 year without having this problem, but all of a sudden I can't see the other computers in the network. The other computers are able to access my shared files. The really strange thing is if I go into any programs that have a network file as a recently opened file (under the File menu some programs store the latest few files you accessed) I can open, modify, and save it, but I still can't see the computer in the network locations. I also noticed in Wordpad that by default it opens to a network computer when I hit file->open and I can open files on that computer, but that same computer still doesn't show up if I browse to the Network folder. Any ideas on this?

I recently setup printer sharing for someone in their office. It took me all of about 2 mins to do so since I have done it many times. Two days later, he calls me up to let me know it stopped working. I thought it was just something simple but when I got there, I couldn't figure out what had happened. Here is the situation:

Computer A - Windows XP Pro SP2 with printer attached
Computer B - Windows XP Pro SP2 wants to use shared printer

Computer B can no longer access the workgroup. Computer A can see Computer B on the workgroup but cannot access it. When I double click on the computer name it wants a username and password??? Something like Guest\(computer name).

What confuses me is that Computer B can't access the Workgroup yet Computer A can see it on there. Also, how did this randomly happen after it was working fine? I checked all firewall settings and its all correct. Any help would be appreciated - Thanks.

My ISP is Verizon FIOS with a desktop hardwired to the modem/router and a laptop with wireless connection. I am using Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 Anti virus and both IE 7 and Mozilla Firefox 3.6.12.

A few days ago the laptop started taking "forever" to load both browsers and all websites. Strangely enough, the desktop is loading at an acceptable speed. Thinking that the issue could possibly be with the wireless, I hardwired the laptop. This did not improve the connection speed. I need help!!!

Note: A recent virus scan did not detect any threats..

Info VPN IKE IKEv2 Responder: Received IKE_SA_INIT request

Warning VPN IKE IKEv2 Payload processing error

Answer:Sonicwall suddenly blocking VPN access

Something had to had changed on the SonicWall for this to happen. How many people have administrative access to the firewall?

If the SonicWall is not servicing other VPN tunnels, which based on what I'm seeing here seems to be true, go into the admin GUI and make sure the firewall is not listening for VPNs. You'll find this section under the VPN section and then just uncheck the enable VPN in the Global VPN settings.

For days i have been trying to figure out wat is happening with my internet connection.

Suddenly i received high ping - around 3000+ ms to Google.com for example, usually i have 18 to 25ms

When i checked the LAN connection icons at the right bottom, i notice that 'something' keeps sending outwards, making my internet very slow.
In my task manager the network utilization sticks to around 0,35%.
Which is very suspicious as there should be NO activity at all when no program or anything is sending out data.

So i installed various file monitors and TCP monitors, even netlimiter, i did the usual commands like netstat to see if a programs is causing this, but nothing shows up!

Even when disabling most programs from the processes list, i still get a 'clean' 4 localhosts connections when i type netstat, but somehow i still see data being transfered and the LAN icons keep on going and going.

I really have tried everything to track and locate what could cause this sending of data, but cannot seem to find it.

I did find out a few things.
When i startup the computer then i have a window of like 5 minutes or so where i can internet normally.
But i already see that it keeps sending 'data'... but not enough to limit my internet just yet...

Below is my hijack log

I've never, ever, ever had this problem before. I am not using a new ISP. I was out of town for a week but that only means I hopped around different wireless networks while gone, I did not change anything in my System Preferences. This is happening in all my browsers--Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.Yesterday I could still access Yahoo Mail and Flickr. I was having difficulties with Google (except on Chrome), possibly because of the way it's integrated with Google Plus? Maybe that also made it come up as https yesterday. Today Google search is working again, but I tested Picasaweb which is https and it doesn't. Facebook also doesn't work (although the non-https help pages or login page do). Can't login to my non-Yahoo email account, and today Yahoo Mail/Flickr also stopped.I am located in Thailand, but none of my friends are having issues. (We are in a small town so there are only two providers.) Like I said, this happened without my changing anything. Now, I've deleted cache and cookies in all three browsers, checked to make sure I wasn't using a proxy, tried changing the DNS...all stuff I hadn't touched before and everything was running fine. Restarted multiple times as well, and ran an anti-virus check.Any suggestions? This is baffling to me. Of course Facebook/Picasa/Flickr are low-priority but this is a really bad time work-wise to not be able to email...

Internet used to work fine but has always been a pain to set up. This morning I _suddenly_ had no connectivity anymore whats-o-ever, it worked fine yesterday. I've had this problem before (where suddenly the internet is gone) but this time I've been unable so far to find the culprit.

I am running Win7 32bit Ultimate, on an Asus M3N78-VM motherboard (LAN chip Realtek RTL8211C). I have the nVidia nForce network driver (no idea how I got that, can't find updates either). I am also running Hamachi, perhaps this gives trouble?

The problem:
Whenever I changed some settings in the network configuration (the LAN adapter -> configure), then when I press close in the adapter window it more often then not freezes. I have to bring it down with the Task Manager, or restart the computer. Same thing whenever I disable / enable the adapter, it just freezes (I must do a hard reset then!).

This is a frustration for long, and I guess the cause of the internet problems. It can have internet but whenever I need to fix it, like now, I just can't get through. The following post used to work: Possible solution for unidentified network access but doesn't anymore (it always freezes when I set the Network Address).

This is what ipconfig /all gives:

Answer:Suddenly no internet access anymore

When your computer says it has an IP of 169.254.146.200 or subnet 255.255.0.0, that means it wasn't able to get an IP address from your router's DHCP server.

First thing I would try is "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" and then "ping 192.168.1.254" to see if you get a response. If not, "ipconfig /a" again and check to see if your 169.254.146.200 IP was replaced with 192.168.1.xxx.

Let me know.

Answer:Solved: Outlook suddenly can't be opened

The Version number for Outlook is important here, but from a CMD window, if you open outlook using the command line switch, outlook /resetnavpane it might just clear this up.

I get an error message that says "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window." I can attach a picture, if you want. But that is all that is says. I was using Outlook just fine a few hours ago and now it won't open. I tried restarting my computer, I tried doing a system restore twice. It won't open still. Help.

it asks for a sign in but won't let me sign in with the microsoft account, or i could use a product key but this office was installed on the laptop from Dell

Answer:Why does my Outlook 2013 suddenly ask for it to be activated?

It could be that it was just a trial program, which usually comes with Laptops.

Hi,

Just spotted (when it really mattered, of course ) that Outlook is no longer saving copies of outgoing emails. The Sent Items folder looks a bit patchy so I think this problem may have been lurking un-noticed for a while.

Have tried to de-select the Save option, re-boot and re-select it but this didn't cure it.

Any other thoughts anyone????

TIA

Tim

Answer:Outlook suddenly not saving copies

Why don't you delete the sent items dbx? Restart OE and it will be recreated. It is probably corrupt.

Hi,

I saw another guy posted here about how suddenly his Outlook Express wanted his password. Mine too, except I cannot send OR receive email.

The error message is Access to account was denied. Verify that your username and password are correct. But it doesn't point to a way to do this.

My email comes from Hotmail and I can access my email there, but want Outlook Express back.

Thanks for any suggestions.

One of my machines is a Compaq Pentium 4 running Windows XP Pro. I only use this machine for e-mail and a bit of browsing. It's been working fine all along but today when I switched on the machine and clicked on the Outlook Express icon to download my messages nothing happened. Every time that I click on the Outlook Express icon, a beep is heard. When I open Internet Explorer 8 to browse, it takes ages for a page to load, then the machine simply freezes and the following message appear : THE APPLICATION OR DLL.C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ATL.DLL IS NOT A VALID WINDOWS IMAGE. Please check this against your installation diskette. But when I try to reload Windows XP using the installation disc, a message appears saying : You have a newer version of the operating system on your computer and you cannot install an older version. What do I do now? I even removed Internet Explorer 8 and then re-installed it but to no avail. Can someone please help? Thanks

Answer:Suddenly I cannot open Outlook Express

"One of my machines is a Compaq Pentium 4 running Windows XP Pro"
Do you have another PC running XP? If so, try copying the Atl.dll file from that into the System32 folder in the PC with the problem.
"You have a newer version of the operating system on your computer and you cannot install an older version"
That is almost certainly because you now have Service Packs installed that weren't in the original CD. You would still be able to perform a "clean install" by booting from the CD (assuming this is a genuine Microsoft CD and not a manufacturer's "recovery" disk). Clean installing would, of course, destroy all of your existing data on the drive, so a backup of important files is essential.

Please help - I cannot edit (or sync) my Outlook anymore (Outlook 2002 on standalone machine w/ Win XP Home).

Suddenly everything (Contacts, Notes, Tasks, Calendar) became read-only. I already ran "Detect and repair", hoping it would reset whatever caused the problem.

It is posslibly missing some PST folders that I have been previously using - I deleted them recently. How can I "unlock" my folders?

Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Outlook 2002 suddenly read-only

Welcome to the board, M in NJ. This is A in PA, LOL!!

I'm sure Randy will come along and post that very cool WELCOME graphic I've seen him using!

Anyway, did you happen to back them up to CD or something?

I mean, anything written to CD becomes read-only, even after you copy it back.

So, I would close Outlook. Do a search for *.PST files. Then ctrl+a and right-click and remove any read-only property on them.

Then try opening again.

Also, you cannot access PST files from two PCs AT THE SAME TIME. So if you're trying something like that, forget it.

I have been using Outlook 2003 for years and this morning without warning my non-archived emails from the last year are inaccessible or missing. Various error messages on opening Outlook were: Delayed write failed. An error occurred that prevented ...outlook.pst from being saved. Close and restart all mail enabled applications. Cannot start reminder service. The reminders file could not be found. Calendar file missing.
My PC is running XP with service pack 3. I have tried Windows Server 2003 System File Checker and CHKDSK and System Restore to no avail. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830265 suggests it might be a driver conflict. I use Avast Antivirus. I have looked at the outlook.pst file using Kernel Outlook PST Viewer and oddly it contains junk email and deleted emails until 10am this morning when these problems occurred but no inbox or sent box.
Please can you help me recover my emails.
I have attached all the logs, Thanks.
