MS Office vs. Open Office vs. Corel WordPerfect Office

Question: MS Office vs. Open Office vs. Corel WordPerfect Office

Ok, so i want everyones impressions on the various Office Suites.

I personally if i had hte money would go for the Microsoft Office Pro series. I for one, think MS Word is one of the most refined word processing applications avalible. And coming a very close second is Open Office. I find my self having many problems trying to do somthing in Word, or Word crashing, so i switch over to my trusty free Open Office.

As for Corel and WordPerfect, my experiance is that it is way over priced, and is basically on the level of "word pad".

I am attempting to have the company i work for tranition from MS Office to Open Office, but just for a control i thought i might throw in Corel.

So what are your guy's and gal's thoughts on the various office apps?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: MS Office vs. Open Office vs. Corel WordPerfect Office

Openoffice is an extemely close second to MS-office and that is for one thing

Calc's graphing wizzard: It is horrendous. As an engineer I need to admend graphas add new plots... and it is soo hard with openoffice

There is suppose to be a more MS-wizzard with OO-2.1 so until then Openofffice is 2nd
When the new wizzard is shipped it takes first place very quickly and by a signifcant margin

I have always used Wordperfect, but I have a new computer with Win 7 64bit.  The Wordperfect that I have is too old and will not work on the new OS.  I have MS Works 9 as an OEM on the new computer, but I don't like it.  I am retired and do not want to spend much on new Office software.  Can anyone tell me which of the 2 other software is most like Wordperfect? Thanks, Roneee

Answer:WordPerfect vs Open Office or Softmaker Office

Nothing is like Word Perfect. I stopped using it 10 years ago and still miss it. Try Open Office (a free MS Office replacement):

I purchased a refurbished ACER last year and since than I have had the most horrible time with the above mentioned program ''QUARTTO PRO R 11 ''.
To mention that this version is from 2004. I have been getting the error message '' MICROSOFT VISUAL C++
abnormal program termination

Now , the problem is that all of my files in that program are frozen. I can't
get past this message. I am running VISTA HP . I have tried to install the updates for both WORDPERFECT and QUARTTO PRO 11. No good , I am
being told that COREL doesn't support either of the above any more . So I
tried to install the update's manually . YEA ! Right . It seems that I have not had an update for 4 years.

Should I get this program taken off my computer or is there some good advice that may come my way.

Hi: Please help me with my WordPerfect Office X5. I keep getting the following "Error 38 - Word Perfect Office files have been damaged or modified. Please reinstall from your original source". I have tried this plus removed and reinstalled several times but still get same message. Even managed to find an App. for this I had saved on a Disk. Cannot get a NEW ACTIVE LINK for this download. Corel will not help me just said to download WordPerfect Office X7 and pay $199.99. I HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR WORDPERFECT OFFICE X5!!! Please help me with this!

Answer:Corel WordPerfect Office X5 - Purchased Nov 29-2011

From: ERROR 38 (alleged damaged file) and DOWNLOAD INSURANCE

Maybe it will help? Sounds like copy protection usual.

Error 38 is generated when the Protexis License service is not running. This can sometimes occur after system startup while services are in the process of initializing or if the Protexis service has been stopped. To further trouble shoot this error, follow the steps below:

Enabling Protexis
Click on start and go up to Run. If you are running Windows VISTA? click on Start -> Programs ( or All Progams ) -> Accessories -> Run.
In the 'Open:' box, type in MSCONFIG and click Ok.
Click on the 'Services' tab at the top of screen.
At the bottom of the screen, above 'Ok' & 'Cancel' check the option 'Hide All Microsoft Services'.
Ensure that the item: 'ProtexisLicensing' is enabled.
NOTE: Only one instance of ProtexisLicensing can be enabled. If there are multiple instances of this uncheck the second copy.
Click Ok and select the option to restart the computer.

I understand that if a user installs Open Office on a machine with conventional Office 97-2003 that Open Office will use its own suite of products for each application. (Unless the user ops to use Office to open the applications by unchecking the corresponding application boxes during Open Office's installation.) But if a user chooses Open Office as the default for applications on a system that also has Office 2007 on it, how does Open Office deal with this if the OO applications remain checked as the default?

Does the current version of OO even understand how to DEAL with the new Office 2007? I understand that OO can not read docx documents, which is the default for Word 2007, (although this can be easily changed back to doc.) I found out that Open Office 3.0, scheduled for release this fall, will be able to read docx documents. What's so great about docx docs anyway?

Using my example, assume this situation on a new Windows Vista machine. (fresh installs of each program or Office 2007 OEM (factory installed.) What behavior would be expected here?

Just bought a new laptop with Windows7 64bit installed-my first exposure to Windows7. I had Office 2007 installed on my old Dell 32 bit machine. I had also recently pruchased Office 2010 and installed that on my new machine.

Now, when I try to open those 32bit 2007 files with 64bt 2011, Iget an error message that "no picture file is available", or words to that effect. When I try to "open with", the only option displayed is "Microsoft Office" with an icon that looks like a picture file. When I try to browse to the proper office program(Excel, for example), there are none of teh Office suite programs displayed, only "Microsoft Office".

I can navigate seperately to the proper progran, Excel, etc., and drag the file into the application, and it opens, and all seems to work OK. I "save as" the proper application file, but it still will not open with double-click on the file name.

I have not seen this particular item in the forums and would appreciate very much some help in fixing this issue.

I have a 2003 SBS machine and have various clients connected through exchange to get mail. Users typically leave outlook running the whole day while they work on programs such as access/excel.

I have noticed that on some machines excel and word docs open very quickly over the network until outlook is left open and connected to exchanged. we are opening the files on a variety of win 2003 servers, however when they have their outlook exchange account connected I have seen the docs take anywhere from 3-5x the normal amount of time to open.

I have also noticed that opening email attachments such as xls and doc are also very slow while connected to exchange, but it seems to vary from file to file, some seem better than others.

does the connection to exchange complicate the process of opening docs on remote machines or does it sound like I have a misconfiguration somewhere? I would like to get the performance of opening a file (say a xls) on a network share to be the same as it is when outlook is not connected to exchange.

I do not have these PCs running in offline or cached mode as we have a shared calendar that does not display correctly when I enabled these features. Clients are running office 2003,2007,2010. Turning on cached mode does not seem to make much if any of a difference btw.

Thanks for any insight you may have

I'm running Windows 7 on my new computer, which came with a trial version of Office 2010. Rather than buy the full version when the trial expired, I installed the Office 2003 I had on my old -- now dead -- computer. I now find that I can't open the Word and Excel files I created with the 2010 version. The problems with all the three apps started at the same time. I have reinstalled the apps several times, but that didn't solve anything.
There is no antivirus except Windows 10' Defender.
Please help. I am going crazy here.

Does the same happen if you try this in Safe Mode?

Have you changed your page file settings from default?

Do you have a system restore point or disk images (which we strongly and repeatedly recommend using) you can use to return to a point before this problem started?

Hey All,

Here is my issue. The Company we consult for has not transitioned all of the way to Office 2007. We have a number of machines that still have Office 2003. Compatibility Pack works on almost all issues.

Current issue is one of our users received a PowerPoint 2003 that has embedded PowerPoint 2007 files. When the user opens the PowerPoint 2007 file Office 2003 shuts down. He has to download the 2007 file to his desktop.

From what I can see this is because the file conversion process shuts down Office 2003 before attempting to open the PowerPoint 2007 file.

Another issue that may be complicating the error is we had to run a Fixit patch from Microsoft that was causing Excel, Word and PowerPoint to be scanned which caused long opening times. I don't remember the KB article for that one at the moment but will find it if I need to.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I have long used Open Office, but recently I read in PC Advisor that Libre Office (derived from it)was better. However printing an envelope in Libre Office seems almost impossible. When the print order is given, the small text window to the left shows the wrong size, and when printing a DL envelope it clearly shows and gives the size of a B5 envelope. I did not make a mistake in selecting the correct size. Can anyone help and is this a problem with Libre Office?

Answer:Word Processing problem, Open Office and Libre Office

I have Libre Office version and just tried to print a DL envelope and had no problems.
When I prepared the envelope, I went into Format/Page and selected DL Envelope. then Landscape. This set the paper size. I then typed the envelope with a return address on the top right side and the recipient address amid-ships. Put the envelope in the printer, long ways in and bingo.
As a matter of interest do you have to change the paper size in the printer properties? I didn't on mine. I also have to say that I am using a MAC, but the principles should be the same on a Windows machine.

I have a client that has Office 365. They have two people with this issue. It's not really a huge problem but more as an annoyance. Whenever they go to open a document through an Office product (Word/Excel: File>Open>Computer>Browse) the documents appear but they're missing the icons next to their name. There's barely any information on it when Googling this and they all seem to lead to dead ends for us. The two I have found are and neither have resolved our issue. I have ran a repair on Office, re-installed office, recreated Windows icons, and opened the programs in Safe Mode to no avail. No Add-Ins are causing the issue. You can see the icons to the left of the files in Internet Explorer when going to Documents. Any help would be appreciated!

I installed office 2007 (full install after uninstall of office 2003) on vista yesterday and every time I open an office product, it gives me a message ?please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office professional 2007?. Then it pops a window with a status bar for ?Configuration Progress?.

I looked this up online and it said that this was caused by installing as a user, not an administrator. So I uninstalled office entirely, booted, and reinstalled as administrator.

On my Win7 PC I have open office and on my WinXP Laptop I have Office 2007. Both have one major problem: the spell-checker does not work regularly for English and does not work at all for other languages, e.g., French, Spanish, or German.

I did read other threads regarding this problem and I did go through the routine of Tools-option-writing aids; and marked "check spelling as you type." I also have my abc on the menu bar checked and the adjacent ABC is underlined with a red wavy line (which means the spell-checker is active).

The problem is that when I activate the Eng language in my task bar and type a wrong word, it will be marked with a wavy red line-- which means my spell checker works for English. Now while I still have English on my language bar, if I type a word in Spanish, the spell-checker doesn't work because the foreign word is not marked with red-wavy line. If I change the language in my task bar to Spanish and write a wrong Spanish word, again the spellchecker doesn't seem to work.

Anybody has any idea what seems to be the problem?

I greatly appreciate your help.

I am running Office 2003 on Windows 7. My PC is only 6 months old and everything has been running like butter. All of a sudden Office files open slowly when double-clicked from their respective locations (they would normally blink up). If I open Word or Excel and then open the files from there, they open quick. Outlook on the other hand, is just slow to load up...which it wasn't before.

I did a ton of research online and couldn't get a clear fix. My thoughts are:
Anti Virus? (I'm using AVG Free)
Ad-Aware Free? (Ad-Watch live is on...however it was on before)
Windows update or office update?

But obviously I'm here to get your thoughts. It's a pain in the ass when I bought a new PC so it could perform quick, and now spreadsheets and email take 20 seconds or more to open.

I realize that this is not primarily a Windows7 problem, but it just bothered me to see one program stopping me from setting the file associations for another program. And I need to vent.

I have been running both Libre Office (LO) and Open Office (OO) for months now, not a heavy user, just trying to keep both going while I figure which one I liked best. These apps share file extensions, and are very file compatible, and I had always been able to open the same document in either

Both families of programs pinned to the Start Menu had, for months, contained file history of many documents, some documents showing as history in both app-families, and able to be opened in either LO or OO. Yesterday, I upgraded Open Office. First thing I noticed, the LO apps pinned to the start menu had their document history icons changed to OO icons. Sure enough, these documents, in the history list of a pinned LO app, open in OO. Rats, I think--I guess I will have to re-assign the extensions to LO. . . . No can do! I have never had this happen before, but I now when I use "Open With" on a file with the shared extensions, (.ods, .odt,...) then "Choose Default Programs...", then "browse" to set a new default, the LO app does not stick. So far, I am unable to set the file association to any of the LO apps.

I have occasionally seen software, usually pretty sleazy and undesirable software, that would hijack file associations, would take-over as much of the compute... Read more

Most here use Open office. It has been found to be compatible with the famous and expensive MS product Office.

The most important feature that you want is comapatiblity with MS Word, as most people use that. You want to be sure that you can send them doucments and it can be read. Well, you have that with Open Office.

Anyone migrated their business from Microsoft Office to Open Office?

Thinking about doing it as a way to cut back on costs. Currently we are using variety of office versions right now (2007, 2003, & 2000) It would cost a small fortune to get everyone on the same version.

Just looking for some feedback, share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks.

I don't run any company or enterprise, but it's been several years I'm happily using open office, it's 3 times smaller than MS and to me much easier to use. I think the functions and features and interface are pretty well organized. And for that all, it's freeware.

Recently installed Office 2010 (32 bit becuz it was recommended to do so my MS) and now when I send an Office 2007 file to that PC (both PCs are Win 7 64 it) it tries to open the file in Windows Media!!

What the heck am I doing wrong? I'm beginning to think I should not have purchased Office 2010 Pro and stayed with the Office 2007 on all my machines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Office 2007 files will not open in Office 2010

That is weird.
Could you please describe step by step how you are sending the file to another PC.
Also, please provide more details on what type of the file that is. And if you create a similar file on recipient PC, will it be opened in Windows Media as well?

I've recently got a new machine and had copied my old PST file over. Whenever I go to open it I get "File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file C:\Users\*username*\Documents\Outlook Files\*pst file name*"

I created a test archive and was able to open that one (same location ) just fine.
Is there an add-in/converter tool I need to run in order to be able to open my old PST file?

Hello please help me. well I have office 2007 and office 2003 on my PC. So my friwnd gave me a ppt file that is in office 2010 and unfortunatly i dont have office 2010. if there are any converters to convert this file in offive 2007??? or if there is other way to open this 2010 file?

Answer:Open office 2010 PPT files with Office 2007

2010 doesn't have different file extensions from 2007. docx, xlsx, pptx, accdb. You should be able to open those files in 2007 without issue. Also, it's not really the best idea to have two different versions of Office installed. They can conflict, especially when it comes to macros and equations.

We are wanting to up-grade our current Office suite Office 2003 to either Office 2010 or Office 2013.  Our PC's are running Windows 7
I would just like to know what peoples opinions and advice is on this?

Answer:Up-grade from Office 2003 to Office 2010 or Office 2013

I can't speak to Office 2013, but I've done numerous upgrades to Office through 2010.  When you install the new version, you have the option to keep the old version or just replace it.  Starting with Office 2007 the familiar menu bar has been replaced with the ribbons which take a lot of getting used to for folks used to older versions.  There's a little program called UbitMenu that will add most of the menu bar functions back in the 2007 and 2010 versions that a lot of folks find helpful.  If you do opt to have two different versions installed at the same time, what happens is that when you switch from one to the other, it goes through a juggling act that takes a minute or so.  It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it, it could be a convenience.
Good luck.

Whenever I click on an Office or Open Office attachment in Windows 10 mail I get two options, Open or Download. No matter which option I choose it takes me to my document folder to save. I am unable to view the file. I can go to the same attachment in or windows live mail and open it no problem which is a nuisance because I like the convenience of using the new mail app. I have removed the app and reinstalled it but still have the same problem.

These programs seems to be practically identical except that Open Office is free, but Star office is normally about £50. Whilst that is not a lot for a comprehensive Office Suite, it is a lot just for an installation CD. If I am looking for updates, patches do I go to Star Office Support click here or Open click hereI understand that the new Open Office beta has a macro-recording function that might be useful to me. Installed on my PC I have an old copy of Microsoft Office 2000. I use Word for my documents and made a spreadsheet on Excel for a game I play, other than that I have I have no knowledge of using the other features of this suite such as Access, Outlook or Powerpoint.

While downloading the latest Java update I noticed an ad for a freeware program called and after Googling it found that as far as I can see it is the same sort of thing as the Office 2000 suite only newer and probably more modern.

My question is, would the Open program be better than my outdated Office 2000 Suite and would I still be able to read my word documents etc using this program or would I have to keep Office 2000 as well.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice offered.

:wave If I have, and LOVE Open Office :drool, but run in to the occasional file that I can't open with it, not the new .xdoc or anything, but for instance, a friend of mine sent me a .doc that I couldn't open with OOrg, can they coexist on a machine? Can I still use OOrg for everything, and MSO for things that get emailed to me?

I am guessing I can, and this new CD is licensed for 3 machines, so I might use it on mine, if it's not going to mess up OOrg..

Thanks guys!

Answer:Open Office & Microsoft Office (2007)

Yes, you can run OOorg and MS Office on the same PC. You may run into occasional problems when the PC can't decide which program to use to open a certain document, but this is easily solved by right clicking on the document, and selecting Open With and then selecting the program you want to open it with.

I've never had much problem putting Office Libre or Open Office on a computer.
A neighbor needed help with an HP Printer.
OK, found the software downloaded and installed.
(this is a Walmart HP Computer, cheap and slow, Windows 10)
He wanted to manipulate documents and print.
I believe he needs a basic word processor.
Attempted to download install both without success.
Anyone know this problem? Have a solution?

It would be super useful if you explained the error instead of just claiming it was "without success"

I don't use text documents that often but did download Open Office and I like it. But I shouldn't need both OOo and Windows, should I? I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it came with Windows Office Powerpoint Viewer 2007. Can I just uninstall that program?

I LIKE being able to uninstall Windows stuff because--as I understand--they tend to take up a lot of space. But OOo is 374 MB and Windows is only 133 MB. The "Viewer" looks like it may be an introductory abridged version of the real thing and I suspect I don't need it. I think it's what it is--only a viewer--as I see nowhere I can compose a doc.

Can I dump it?

Thanks, as always for your generous help.

Answer:Can Open Office let me remove Windows Office?

Powerpoint Viewer is independent of MS Office. It was designed for people, who don't have Office, but wanted to open Power Point presentations.
It's up to you. You can keep it just for that purpose, or use OO to open pps files.

Yes, you can, IIRC. This is what attracted me to it in the first place!

Yes, if the application doesn't do it natively, PDF creation apps that we were discussing earlier (PDF Creator comes to mind) should allow you to create the PDFs... not sure about some that were mentioned, but this app installs a printer that you can use from any application to "print" into a PDF file.

Having only 220 mb remaining on my 1 gig hd, I utilised the "minimal" installation of Open (AKA Star) Office from a cover disk. The installation went fine and the program seems to work very well. What i'm keen to explore is its compatability. Is there somewhere perhaps on the web where i can find word documents that I can try to open. Thanks, Dag

Answer:Open (Star) office/MS office compatability

Not sure as to the standard of your star office but there was recently a trial run by PCA on the latest version. Although there is some loss of formatting here and there, generally the compatibility between SO and MS Office is pretty good. Bear in mind that although SO will open MS files, anything saved in SO format will not open in Office, you have to 'save as' the office format.Unless your various files are critical in their content being identical in all aspects, SO is a very good alternative.Craig

We currently use Office 2007 and Office 2010 on our about 20 workstations. I'm looking to move to MS office 365 for hosted exchange. I found out that as of the first of this year, Microsoft no longer support Outlook 2007 or 2010 for hosted exchange. It seems to be working just fine so far at another site I'm involved with. The issue is that if you ever contact support, they will blame the version of Outlook you're on. So, I'm looking at options for upgrading.

Do you guys that are on office 365 for email using the premium version that includes the office subscription or buy Office 2016?

For the most part, we just need outlook, word and excel. We do have 6 people that will need powerpoint also.

Just looking for a recommendation from you guys on what makes the most sense.

Hey guys,
Uhh...Quick Question. I had a portable version of MS Word on my computer I don't have it any more due to a HD crash.( I do not have access to an actual disk--So I can't install it.) I have .doc files still on my computer of info I need. When I go to open one in Notepad it's encrypted. :cry Is there a way to keep them as a .doc file and open them "normally" in Open office or Libre Office?
Any Suggestions would be great.

Answer:Notepad/ Office/Open office

Notepad will not open .doc files, regardless of whether they are encrypted. If your OS is Windows 7, you can open .doc files with WordPad, although some content might be mssing or displayed improperly. Otherwise, OpenOffice would do the trick; it will open .doc files and can save in that format. I have not used Libre Office but I'd bet the same is true for it.

I have some paper work files for work that are very important and for some reason the text boxes aren't showing.

I did the work on two separate computers with win7 and MS office.(at work) Im currently trying Open Office(at home) on both my win8 desktop and my old Vista laptop. The files open but only the template info remains. None of the text boxes are showing. I have tried to re save in every different option OO gives me. (currently they are .docx) I have also looked through tool bar options with no luck.

There are 25 files in one folder. 11 or 12 were done on the first computer this morning. I used one of those files as a template for the rest I did on the second computer tonight. Im home now and only the files in that folder are not working. Everything else i tried on the thumb drive is fine.
I have done this thousands of times with no problems.

*Disclaimer* I did remove the drive without "safely removing" when I left for the night.

Im hoping like hell that its just some problem with OO and it will be fine at work tomorrow. But this is a potential headache for a client and certainly a loss of some loot. So if it doesnt work im hoping someone might have some clue as to what is going on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Problem with Office/Open Office.

I did remove the drive without "safely removing" when I left for the night.

That'll definitely lead to corrupt files, which sounds like what has happened
I know of an issue with the Dell/Lexmark printers and open office not getting along. You can try updating to a newer version called Libre Office. Libre Office came about because the programmers that originally wrote Open Office left after a dispute with Oracle (Oracle bought Open Office at that time) and they left and started Libre Office as an Open Office replacement. I honestly think it's even better that Open Office.
You can get it here:
LibreOffice 4.1 is here!

Btw: after a quick look I see that Oracle has given up on Open Office and has handed it over to Apache:

Which is better between this 2?Can open office such as Ms Word file can open all existing Word document for MS word 2003,2007 and 2010?

Answer:Open Office VS Office 2007

In order to answer that question we would need to know what you define as "better". For instance, if your main consideration is price then OpenOffice is better since it is free to download. However, if you need the ability to create and run VBA macros, then Office 2007 is better since OpenOffice doesn't support VBA.

Answer:Open Office vs Libre Office? might be of help. I use both. Nothing to me stands out as one better than the other, but maybe others who use it for more than just word documents and spreadsheets can add their input on it.On older computers I use Open Office 3.3 for offline use so no security risks with running out of date version 3.3 from 6 years ago. However computers that get online should always have their Open Office or LibreOffice kept up to date to patch for issues and keep on the latest and greatest.

I'm most familiar with, and most like 'MS Office' - but there's no way I can afford Word, Excel, Access et al (even if I thought it was value for money). My PC shipped with 'MS Works' (oem) but I took an instant dislike to this "suite".So, I was about to download the highly-reputed freeware 'Open Office 2' when I noticed I could get a copy of 'Sun Star Office 7' for a measly £5...I understand that 'Sun Office' is an enhanced commercial release of 'Open Office' featuring third-party extras (such as spell-checkers and fonts), and therefore:'Sun Office 7' is better than 'Open Office 1.2',and 'Sun Office 8' is better than 'Open Office 2'...if you don't mind paying the extra £50.Well, for £5 I can get 'Star Office 7' - seems pretty much to be a bargain - but is it better than 'Open Office 2'?

Answer:Star Office 7 or Open Office 2?

Star 7 is based on Open 1.1, it's a good suite, but perhaps not on a par with OpenOffice 2, which does have a spell checker and plenty of fonts. Neither have a grammar checker though. Star as is comes with a better selection of templates, but this is easily remedied at the OpenOffice site click here I've got Star 7 on my main PC and OpenOffice on a backup, I mainly use Star as it's what I'm used to, but users of Microsoft Office will find the OpenOffice interface rather more familiar than Star.If you're looking to use a database then there's no contest, OpenOffice isn't as easy as Access, but it's light years ahead of the Adabas module that comes with hereclick hereclick here

I have bits of pieces of stuff from the CD "WordPerfect Office 2000". I have just the basic installation of WordPerfect 9 and Quattro Pro 9. I very rarly use the programs, but have had to reinstall the CD and find that the programs crash almost every time.

The rare time that I use WordPerfect 9 is for personal notes. The Quattro Pro 9, I've used to make a sheet including 2 columns of information, kind of like what you would see in a newspaper, or shopping list.

Is there a free program out there that I can download to replace the aging CD, as I'd hate to purchase a new CD that I wouldn't use, or wouldn't know how to use, I barely know how to use this one! lmao

>> Is there a free program out there that I can download to replace the aging CD, as I'd hate to purchase a new CD that I wouldn't use, or wouldn't know how to use, I barely know how to use this one! lmao Thanks for any suggestions! <<

You mean is it available somewhere "For Free?"

No, WordPerfect is not available "legally" for FREE; as far as I know, anyway. However you can get the WordPerfect 12 Productivity Pack CD for like $3.95 in this auction on Ebay which includes WordPerfect 12 - The Oxford Pocket English Dictionary - Clipbook and PerfectScript.

The auction supposedly ends on Jul-23-06 17:18:53 PDT however the eBay auctioneer "digipulseinc" has 32 available so you might want to save the "View seller's other items" to your favorites for future reference!

I mean it may not be FREE but you can get WordPerfect 12 there for like the price of two cups of coffee!

Good Luck

Friends, I have some very important files which were created using WordPerfect Office 2002 many years ago. WordPerfect Office 2002 had been installed on a Win98 PC and it had been in use to create documents in an office until recently. Now all these very critical WordPerfect files have been migrated onto a WinXP Home PC running MS Word. To enable the WordPerfect files to open, I tried to install the WordPerfect Office 2002 application which had been installed on the Win98 PC on the WinXP Home PC, but it failed/refused to install. What I need to do is find a WordPerfect Office application which is supported by WinXP and is also backward-compatible. Can any one help? If not, does anyone know any application that can covert the WordPerfect files into MS Word 2003/2007 files? Thanks in advance.

I don't want wordperfect office 2000 loading calendar, presentations and so on at startup. Whatever I try to do to remove, it just re-loads next time.

Answer:MS-XP with Corel Office 2002/WP

Bill, I have had a minor problem with WP 10 in Corel Office 2002. My OS is XP and when I open WP 10, with anything else running, there is some issue with XP that causes some funny looking graphic things. Specifically, the little icons in the upper right hand corner (minimize, maximize and close) get something over them. It only happens with WP10, not with Quattro Pro or any other program. I know there is a driver issue on my computer, because of some error messages, but I have updated every driver I can find. I think it's a Corel/XP issue, but don't know what it.

Laptop came loaded with Corel Office but I deleted it by mistake.  Acer won't talk to me since the laptop is out of warranty and referred me to a fee-based company for help ($99/one-time) and Wordperfect will only sell me another version for $49.00. How can I get a replacement copy of Corel Office without paying for it?

Answer:How can I reload Corel Office?

Hello, Normally you'll find it on the recovery partition. You should restore your system from this partition to reinstall Corel Office OEM (complete installation).

I created a bunch of charts in Corel Office 7 Suite using Quattro Pro 7. I had recently updated to Corel Office 12 so that I can use QP on Windows XP, and now my charts do not have the same properties that they once did.

The labels for my "X" axes on QP 7 were J, F, M and so on, and in QP 12, the only label I have is the first month of the graph. Does anyone know how I can show all the labels on the chart in QP 12 like I did in QP 7?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I've got a Lexmark M410. Recently upgraded computer to Win2000 using disk format and reinstalling everything. Shortly after, but not coincident with, the installation, both word processing programs ceased to print envelopes correctly. Word just doesn't send the comand to the printer and WordPerfect command will pull a sheet of paper from the tray and print the address on that, instead of pulling an envelope from the manual tray as was done before and a few weeks after installing Win2000. The printer diagnostics are fine. I've reviewed the printer settings with Lexmark. They're correct. Yes, I've reinstalled the printer drivers -- several times.

I suspect a missing or damaged file in Windows but I don't know how to find and repair.

All suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Sorry, Determined. I've seen so many problems with using Word's envelope tool, I make a workaround. Go to the link and click on Envelope & Label tricks:

I've tried posting this on the WordPerfect forums, but can't get any help.

I'm trying to upgrade an entire office from WordPerfect 9 with Windows XP to WordPerfect X5 or X6 with Windows 7. The problem is none of the recent versions of WordPerfect Office come with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). According to the manuals and help files I've read, you should be able to install VBA separately. Here's an excerpt from the WP-VB manual:If VBA 6.3 is installed on your computer, you can access the VBA Editor from within WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, and Presentations. VBA 6.3 is not included with WordPerfect Office X6. To use VBA macros, you must separately install VBA 6.3.
VBA 6.3 isn't a standalone application. I have to install another software that bundles it. Okay, MS Office 2003 comes with VBA 6.3. I install it, and test it. The VB editor launches every time from within Excel. Checked the About Box, yep, it's version 6.3.

Back to WordPerfect, the issue persists. It can't use the VB editor. I go to Tools >> Visual Basic and all of the options are grayed out. Other people on the WordPerfect forums (namely WPUniverse and OfficeCommunity) have had similar issues, but it doesn't appear to be a top priority issue as it didn't appear in the forum frequently, and nobody had any real solutions other than to write in another language, like PerfectScript. We are unable to use PerfectScript because it lacks some of the functi... Read more
