AMD to reportedly skip 20nm entirely for its 2016 GPU family

Question: AMD to reportedly skip 20nm entirely for its 2016 GPU family

According to the latest reports, AMD will skip the problematic 20nm manufacturing node for their next-generation 'Arctic Islands' GPUs, which the company is expected to launch in 2016. Instead, Arctic Islands will progress directly to 14nm FinFET in the hope...

Preferred Solution: AMD to reportedly skip 20nm entirely for its 2016 GPU family

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have set up a VM with Server 2016. Once all changes have been made to the VM, I set the Skip rearm to "1" in the registry entry as I have done to many other VM's from Windows 7 to Server 2012R2. However after sysprep has run and I copy my VHDX.
I try to spin up a new VM and it rearms itself and I have to either skip or enter a product key. I have tried it with a "0" and a "1" and both produces the same result. THe Server 2016 is licensed and once the VM finishes I am able to go
in and verify it is registered. In the other VM's and templates after the skip rearm and sysprep is complete I can spin up the VM and it does not require me to accept the terms and conditions. Please help.

Hi,

This problem just started yesterday (or at least that's when I noticed it), and I didn't make any changes on my computer.

Audio CD's skip heavily (i.e. every second or two) in Windows Media Player, but play fine in WinAmp.

DVD's put in the same drive skip in every player I've tried.

Any ideas what's going on here?

Answer:[SOLVED] CDs skip in Win Media Player, DVDs skip everywhere

Hi and welcome,
The first thing I would try would be to swap out the dvd drive with another one if you can. That way we can rule out hardware issues.

Hi,

This problem just started yesterday (or at least that's when I noticed it), and I didn't make any changes on my computer.

Audio CD's skip heavily (i.e. every second or two) in Windows Media Player, but play fine in WinAmp (with the exception that when I'm listening to a CD in WinAmp, the music sometimes stutters or stops temporarily when I carry out certain tasks in QuarkXPress).

DVD's put in the same drive skip in every player I've tried.

Well, I thought it was a hardware problem at first, but when the cds worked fine in WinAmp, that kind of ruled that out, right?

Compaq Presario 061
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
100.01 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
32.43 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space
TSSTcorp CDW/DVD TS-H492C [CD-ROM drive]

It may be useful to note that my monitor has been messed up for about a week (dark waves across the screen, streaks from any dark colors). It's an old monitor, so it could just be that it's bad, but I'm also afraid it could be something more serious now that I'm having problems with the cd/dvd drive.

Unfortunately, I barely have enough money to eat (and have internet only through the luck of my current situation) so swapping anything out is not going to be an option.

Any ideas what's going on here?

I have 6 months trial license all of them. Which one do you recommend?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

Heyye.

Answer:Avast IS 2016 / Panda IS 2016 / Bitdefender IS 2016

What kind of system do you have?
Panda and Avast are the lightest while Bitdefender can be heavy.

All 3 offer excellent protection (Avast requires tweaking; Bitdefender and Panda works out of the box), while Bitdefender is mainly known for its detection rate (signatures).

Try the 3 of them (trial versions, not the 6 months) and see which one you prefer.

In terms of UI, all 3 are user friendly.

Cisco Source Code Reportedly StolenWhile it is extremely difficult for crackers and hackers to read and find vulnerabilities in source code, this concern should be noted and the Cisco IOS system should be kept up to date for the best levels of protection. In addition, a 2.5MB sample of what is supposedly IOS code was released on an Internet Relay Chat channel as proof of the alleged theft.

Source------------- http://www.ghacks.net/2014/11/16/latest-avast-reportedly-deleting-firefox-add-ons/

Several locations on the Internet, including the official Avast forum, Reddit and Firefox support site Mozilla Zine, are filling up with user reports that that latest version of Avast deletes Firefox add-ons automatically.

Some users report that add-ons get deleted automatically on startup and without option to prevent this from happening in the first place.

The issue does not seem to be linked to the program's Browser Cleanup tool directly even though it is designed to detect and remove lowly rated plugins and browser extensions that are installed in popular browsers such as Firefox or Internet Explorer.

It is unclear right now what is causing the issue and why only some users of the browser who have Avast installed on their systems are affected by the automatic removal of Firefox add-ons on the system.
Here are user comments about this taken from various sources:

The add-ons are deleted automatically, not via browser cleanup tool and there are no reports of malware being detected. I witnessed it happen "live" as I was in my add-ons manger list, add-ons being removed automatically.

I can confirm this too. Since the last program update Avast removes half of my firefox addons automatically on every system startup

There might be some tension during Google's next boardroom meeting.

In a report released yesterday, Morgan Stanley analyst Mark Edelstone claimed that the Internet giant is favoring Advanced Micro Devices' Opteron processors for most near-term server purchases. Previously, Google (nasdaq: GOOG - news - people ) relied on Intel (nasdaq: INTC - news - people ) chips to power its many servers.

"We believe that Google is one of [AMD's] largest customers for servers," Edelstone wrote in the report.

Google spokeswoman Sonya Borälv would not comment on that assertion, saying only that the company "continually evaluates the price and performance of its computing infrastructure to guide purchasing decisions."

If it is true, however, the news will surely come as a blow to Intel chief executive Paul Otellini, who sits on Google's board. AMD (nyse: AMD - news - people ) is the No. 2 manufacturer of computer processors behind Intel. Its processors are cheaper than Intel's and have recently been winning over many corporate customers.

Last quarter, AMD grabbed more than 20% of the market for the first time in more than four years. In his report, Edelstone speculated that AMD's new business with Google might help it beat analysts' estimates this quarter.

Will any of the 300-plus attendees of Google's analyst meeting -- which began today at 10:00 am PST (1:00 pm EST) and concludes approximately four hours after that -- be able to sort the matter out?

Windows 8 adoption rate reportedly worse than Vista

Answer:Windows 8 adoption rate reportedly worse than Vista

I'd say the difference here is that Windows 8 is actually awesome. It's fast, more power efficient than Windows 7, and lets touch users as well as keyboard and mouse users get what they want. Vista was a power hugging bloated OS.
This should lead to more success down the road. My dad has been a diehard XP power user since it released and recently moved to Windows 8. He swore at it for about 3 hours and now can't stop telling me how great it is. He went ahead and put it on two more computers that had been running Vista in our house right away. None are touch enabled.
Corporate customers on Windows 7 won't likely change, but it makes more sense to upgrade from XP or Vista to Windows 8 than it does Windows 7.

Answer:Intel reportedly releasing just two socketed Broadwell CPUs

It often makes you wonder why push Broadwell now, when Haswell has a lot of traction and it's a few months to Skylake. They also included some BGA in the mix for other devices, but pushing a desktop chip seems a bit odd. Given the few months in between them and people unlikely, to drop Haswell unless for lower power systems.

All in all it's negligible power savings, we'd need to obviously see how the integrated graphics fair. It might be a solution for some people, but obviously not everyone is going to see it as a huge importance. It's kinda amusing to me because, I'm looking to replace my mobo / CPU right now. I'd likely sit and wait for Skylake, simply because I'd only be wanting to buy one upgrade. Upgrading is a low priority right now anyways, so there's less inclination to spend right away.

turn off browser integration so a PDF ONLY opens in Adobe reader not in the browser
if using older versions of Adobe, then under settings you can switch off browser integration. in Reader X or XI, you have to disable the browser plugin , not uncheck a box in adobe settings
on all versions of IE/& FF & chrome, you can disable the pdf plug in

Microsoft is reportedly putting the finishing touches on the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which is slated to arrive on August 2. The report comes from Windows Central, saying that build 14384 should be the first RTM (release to manufacturing) build.

The company has begun the sign-off process for the build, which means that it will put a variety of builds through internal tests, and then it will pick the best one for a public release.

According to the report, Insiders can expect to see a final build by the end of next week. The timeline isn't surprising. With the Anniversary Update less than a month away, we should certainly be in the polishing phase.

The fate ofWindows phones that are ineligible for the Anniversary Update is still undetermined. Such unsupported devices have had a sort of "upgrade at your own risk" option through the Release Preview ring. These users will be unable to install the Anniversary Update, but it's not clear if build 10586 will remain available for them.

The report also states that the Redstone 2 (Rs2) builds that Microsoft is compiling are in the 148xx range, and should begin shipping to Insiders in mid-to-late August. The Redstone 2 update isn't slatedto arrive for the public until April, 2017.

Microsoft now plans March Windows 10 Mobile rollout

February has come and gone without the highly anticipated Windows 10 Mobile upgrade for legacy Lumia handsets. In an email to partners, seen by VentureBeat, Microsoft is now targeting a release this month, to occur after the regular monthly service updates for the two Windows 10-powered handsets already on the market, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL.

Unlike the previous schedule, reported by VentureBeat at the end of January, this one separates the upgrade from the service update. In other words, whereas the February rollout would have seen the update bundled into the upgrade, in March they are expected to be two distinct processes.

The rollout is said to begin passively, from Microsoft?s perspective, in that users will need to initiate it manually from their handsets. Only afterwards, on an unspecified timetable, will the company begin actively pushing the new firmware to eligible devices.

Microsoft had initially intended to upgrade in-market Lumias this past December, but the self-imposed deadline came and went. The February target was only messaged internally, so there has technically been just a single ? albeit months-long ? delay.

Stuxnet worm reportedly planted by Iranian double agent using memory stick on arstechnica.com : http://arstechnica.com/business/news/2012/04/stuxnet-worm-reportedly-planted-by-iranian-double-agent-using-memory-stick.ars

'The Stuxnet computer worm used to sabotage Iran's nuclear program was planted by a double agent working for Israel. The agent used a booby-trapped memory stick to infect machines deep inside the Natanz nuclear facility, according to a report published on Wednesday.

Once the memory stick was infected, Stuxnet was able to infiltrate the Natanz network when a user did nothing more than click on an icon in Windows, ISSSource reported. They cited former and serving US intelligence officials who requested anonymity because of their proximity to the investigations. Covert operators from Israel and the US wanted to use a saboteur on the ground to spread the infection to insure the worm burrowed into the most vulnerable machines in the system, reporter Richard Sale added.

The double agent was probably a member of an Iranian dissident group, possibly from the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq group. This group is believed to be behind the assassinations of key Iranian nuclear scientists. In October, a huge blast destroyed an underground site near the town of Khorramabad in western Iran that housed most of Iran's Shehab-3 medium-range missiles capable of reaching Israel and Iraq.... I understand its Free vs Paid product comparision but anyway

Answer:F-Secure Internet Security 2016 vs Panda Free Antivirus 2016

If a security soft ranks amongst the top performing AVs, it won't matter much if it does function correctly or causes problems on your specific system.

From lab test results F-Secure has an edge over Panda during testing the past few years in terms of detection (although higher false positives).

From users, it seems more prefer Panda - which is one of Neil Rubenking's (PCMag) favs (that don't mean much - but that is just my opinion).

I'd say, in terms of overall protection, Panda has a slight edge; it might protect your system in a few instances that F-Secure will not.

According to all sources that I could find on-line, it appears that rules are part of pst file.

However, this does not happening in my case.

I use outlook 2016 (part of MS office 2016) and have several accounts linked with this ? From my ISP (POP), Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail. I have rules only for account from my ISP.

Recently I deleted my Hotmail account, removed it from my outlook, deleted associated ost file. Then I had second thought and re-activated this hotmal account the following day. Added this to my outlook. To my surprise all rules vanished. Not a single rule remained. I did NOT have any rules setup for Hotmail account. Even column details for message folders (part of setting) got changed.

I decided to check further. Copied my pst files to another computer which had same version of outlook installed and has exactly the same setup.

Now I added some rules on my 1st computer. Checked the 2nd computer. The same rule appeared there. That means pst file does not contain rules.

So, Where are they?

Hope someone can help me. I am lost!!

The pc came with Win10 home I purchased from Dell Win10 pro. I called Dell support and they helped me to install pro from the usb.
One thing I never activated the home and student before downloading the purchased office pro. the office pro key worked so I didn't think I needed it.
After all the trouble with the pro I uninstalled pro and tried to use the home and student. the product key worked on it also. but the same thing happens
I get the error box
Microsoft Word has stopped working
windows is checking for a solution to the problem
then it changes to
Microsoft Word has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
needless to say I have heard nothing.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions?
Thank you.

Hi there!

Well, after reseting the PC to factory settings and reinstalled my drivers, I'm encountering a nasty problem... I?m just unable to install office 2016 in Windows 10, just when it's about to finish, stops, reverts all and says there was an error installing the suite...

I could install this in build 1511, no problems, but here this happens... I tried compatibility modes, using the office cleaning tool, but no avail, I even have all the VC runtimes installed... I'm tryinto install 64 bit version.

Please guys, any advice on this? I really need office for doing my job!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Unable to install Office 2016 Professional Plus 2016 in W10 1607

Try installing 32bit option - you really do not need 64bit unless doing some mega powerful stuff.

Twitter is alit today, it seems, with news of Google neutralising AdBlock Plus. The popular extension, originally created by Wladimir Palant in 2006, is used by many to bypass ads hosted on the internet, including the video ads served by Google's video streaming site.

It has drawn the ire of many web publishers and websites alike for allegedly curtailing their revenues significantly. In an attempt to shore up the almost non-existent profits from YouTube, Google might have finally found a way of skirting the extension. Multiple Twitter users are now posting their accounts, including images, of Chrome circumventing the extension's ad-averse net:Click to expand...

My 8.1 machine goes through 2 screens before the desktop loads. I have Classic Shell installed and have tried to delete these first 2 screens through the settings in Classic Shell and the control panel. They are still there.

What I am talking about is the first splash screen that appears at startup. It is a big colorful rainbow kind of graphic, with the date in big letters. You have to right click to get it to go away, and then it loads a screen that requires entering the password to proceed.

I don't want either of these. I want to go right to the desktop. I don't need a password.

Any help for this problem? Thanks.

THIS WORKED. IT REMOVED BOTH SCREENS:
First, under System Configuration/Boot, I checked "No GUI boot"
Then I changed the user name/password setting:
a. Press ?Windows Key + R?.
b. Type ?netplwiz?.
c. If prompted by UAC, then click/tap on Yes.
d. User Account pop windows will appear.
e. Uncheck the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box, and click/tap on OK.

THANKS BRINK

I was wondering if any one had advice on which laptop offered the best overall performance so someone who is a casual gamer but also wants to use the laptop for practical things like Word/Excel, streaming movies, and listening to music. I've a budget of £1000.
Narrowed it down to the new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop (2016 model) and the hp HP 15-ax003na Gaming laptop (2016 model).
Not a serious pro gamer but I do enjoy playing Total War games etc. on my laptop with OK graphics.
I can't seem to find any information on the new Dell as it always refers to the 2015 model.
Was wondering if anyone had some info like general handling, graphics, screen brightness, and keyboard/mouse quality.
Would appreciate it a lot as I don't know much about this.
Cheers.

Hello,
I was with Talktalk which had a family protection filter which you could enable/disbale various categories. Eg you could disable all filesharing, gaming etc sites and this applied to all devices conencting through the modem router. This was all to stop the kids accidently coming across inappropriate websites.
I have moved to BT and their package came with Mcafee family protection. However, this software/filter system seems very hard to set up and is for each user individually rather than all users. I have set the age setting for my daughter but it's so strict it blocks google and youtube.
I have gone through Mcafee setup instructions and checked online.
Is their any free software that you can use to setup filters on individual pcs? We are all using Windows 7 and wireless connections.
Kind regards

Previewing the Visio file (VSD in this case) is successful. However, when you try to open the Visio file, IE11 attempts to open it (as expected) but only displays a blank page.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this issue?   Other articles suggest that Visio Viewer 2016 does not support IE11.

"Patch Tuesday" broke our install of Outlook 365. It was working fine on Monday and on Tuesday it was hanging on "Processing." So I restored back to the last restore point before the update and it worked great after that. Yesterday it re-installed the updates, and again Outlook didn't load. Restoring again today "fixed" it. Now it wants to update again, so I will disable updates until the problem is fixed. I don't know which particular "patch" is causing the problem; there were about 22 of them that installed.

A recent cumulative update for Exchange 2016 was intended to add support for Windows Server 2016. But, after numerous reported issues, Microsoft has acknowledged a problem exists.

According to the release notes?

If you attempt to run Microsoft Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016, you will experience errors in the IIS host process W3WP.exe. There is no workaround at this time. You should postpone deployment of Exchange 2016 CU3 on Windows Server 2016 until a supported fix is available.

Once again, Microsoft?s testing of its own patches seems to have taken a backseat to accelerated release deadlines.

In my opinion, Norton gives you a better protection. He has SONAR( Behavior protection), very good feature.
Fsecure uses Bitdefender engine but isn't the best AV according AV Comparatives.
Norton is light, has strong firewall, good signatures and cloud reputation + Sonar protection for zero-day threats.

Question: DVD-r's Skip

Not sure where to post this but i hope i can get some help here. It does have to do with my PC in a roundabout way.

I back up some of my movies on to DVD-r's and they will skip in one DVD player (JVC - not that the model matters) and it won't skip in my Magnavox. The same movies won't skip (the factory DVD) in the JVC. I believe it has been magnetized (We had a clock radio setting on top of it. and it has caused problem ever since. Has anyone ever ran into this problem? Can a DVD player be de-magnetized? It is not the movie because when i put it in a different player it doesn't skip. I have heard of other people with the same problem with their player setting next to speakers with magnets. Is the player shot or can it be fixed somehow?

Today my cpu has been slowing down , also getting plenty of 'security center' popups which i know are b.s. and other annoying alerts such as: "Warning fatal error! Whould you like to install security center to stop this!" (notice whould spelled wrong ). It has been near impossible to do anything at all with the constant popups and low resources. For a while I could not load any .exe or disable my internet because I was being hijacked . Then I looked on my task manager, I saw a load of garbage, including something called guard.exe that was randomly taking all my resources away and I couldn't close it. I looked online and I saw I might have something called 'vundo' but im not sure of it. I ran an avg scan and I had like 40,000 'infections ' but they were all such small files, coming from :/windows/system32. I am very very bugged off and I need this off my cpu so I can get back to business
Thanks in advance

Why did you skip my help request. I made mine like 2 days ago, and you have been responding to people who have posted theirs yesterday and even today, while overlooking mine.No one seems to know why my vista service pack wont install. And why does my CPU sit at 30-50% when it is idle. that is half of a 2.4ghz dualcore to do nothing... it used to sit at 0-1%. Worst of all, nothing in my process manager can account for the CPU used... everything is it 0%, then somehow it adds up to 40. I am thinking maybe a root process since SVCHost was jumping around the other day.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/217125/windows-update-80070026-error-memory-and-cpu-being-used/

Answer:why did you skip my help request?

For example, task manager current states I am using up between 48 and 50% of my CPU, with 40% of my 4 gigs of memory used up (nothing is running except firefox)

System idle process is taking up about 93% of my CPU.... so how can 50% of my CPU be used??? this makes absolutely no sense,

although if i check the resource monitor in the task manager, I see that while CPU usage is sitting at about 47-50%, the CPU frequency is jumping from 33% to 50% to 97% of the maximum frequency.

Question: Burnt Dvd Skip

I get this thing where once I've burned a movie to dvd, sometimes the action scenes slow right down or just out of nowhere the movie will skip back to an old scene or ahead to a new one.

How do I prevent that? Is it that I'm running programs? I don't know of any running while I burn the movies. Or is it maybe the speed at what I am burning them at. Currently I am burning at x4 using Image burn and my dvds have a time of well they say DVD-R 4.7bg up to 16x 2hrs sp mode... hope that helps... thanks

Answer:Not able to skip ahead in WMP

If you downloaded this from a p2p program, we can't help you on that. Also, if its a asf or wmv file, you won't be able to skip ahead. Some say they're other types of file, but if it has a little sun in the bottom left, then its one of the previous two.

My Windows Update is currently set to "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to download and install them", so I'm checking the updates today, and there's a bunch of Office 2007 updates marked as "important", including a service pack. I do not use Office much and I'm just happy the way it is, so I choose not to install these updates, however, windows update keeps reminding me that there's important updates, and the icon just won't disappear.

Back in Windows XP, if you didn't want an update you could just tell Windows Update not to install it and it wouldn't bother you again. How can I do that in Windows 7?

Answer:How to skip updates?

Right click on the update and select "Hide" . . but you need to know that most of those updates are for security issues. The Service Pack speeds Office up a bit

Question: Songs Skip??????

I guess this question could go in a few forums, but this one seems about the best.

Here is the deal my brother just gave me his old intel D Dell computer as a back up I believe it is a Dell Dimension 1100, but I could be wrong (he changed cases). It already had an 80 gig Hd in there that has all the windows files on it. Well I took my other 80 gig drive full of music and put it in there because I plan on using this PC for storage. So today I go to play some music and for some reason the songs are kind of skipping. Every few seconds you hear it studder and it is getting really annoying now.

I ran Hitachi Check software to see if for some reason the drive was corrupted but it came back as OK. Here is what I have done already

1. Hitachi Fitness test

2. A few different Media Players

3. Closed everything running in the background

4. Defragged

5. Tried 3 different sets of speakers

6. Updated XP

None of the above fixed the issue, so I really dont have a clue what else I can try, any ideas?

Oh here is what makes up the PC

NEC DVD Burner
NEC DVD Drive
E210882 Motherboard
2 Hitachi 80G HD's
Intel Pentium D 2.54 Processor
250 Watt OEM Dell Power Supply
512MB Ram
Onboard Audio and Video

Also another funny thing is I just burned a CD and it works fine no skipped, jump nothing.

Answer:Songs Skip??????

My 160 ide was doing the same thing, I even went to the extent of doing a clean install with no avail.

My access times soon after went to ****, and the drive is on it's way out.

I cant guarantee you have the same issue, but it's a possibility your drive is dying.

If it is this one, the AU version will work on 1703 and it even worked on some of the Insider builds as well:

I have Windows 10 64 bit that's updated to build 1703 already. Now I have a set of updates, including cumulative security and some Nvidia GPU driver update from year 2016 (no kidding). For obvious reason I like to skip that Nvidia device driver update. I did a search on internet and found a tool that can hide updates for Windows 10, but it's unclear if it's intended to or will work in build 1703. Any suggestion?

Answer:how to skip a particular update

If it is this one, the AU version will work on 1703 and it even worked on some of the Insider builds as well:

Question: Videos "skip"

Lately, for some reason, videos have become "unlistenable" as they "skip". I replaced the speakers. Any suggestions as to what may be going on and how to fix it?I have XP and plenty of memory. Have Spybot and Avsast Free!ThanksMod EDIT: moved to XP forum from Win 95~~boopme

Answer:Videos "skip"

I would try uninstalling, then reinstalling the audio drivers (using Device Manager).

On older systems...Onboard audio chips/cards may have been CPU-intensive and the skipping phenomenon was related to such.

In any case, I would try uninstalling/reinstalling the audio drivers.

when i turn on the pc it take me to log on screen

i want it to enter directly to the windows and skip log on screen

thanks

Answer:how to skip log on screen

Hi

There is a way of automatically logging in and bypassing the logon screen This procedure can be somewhat dangerous for multiple people using it because they have access to your information.

On a desktop

Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to launch the ?Run? dialog box.
Type in control userpasswords2
Press Enter. The User Accounts window will display.
Uncheck the option ?Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer?
Click ?OK?
You will then be prompted to enter the current password and confirm it.
After doing so, you will no longer be prompted to enter your password upon login

Question: All burnt cds skip

I dont got all the specs right now because i am at work, but here it is.

I got a liteon dvd +r/rw and a a7n8x delux mb with the neforce 2 ultra chipset.

All audio cds that i burn do not play correctly in my car stereo. The first 2 tracks play fine, but after that, each track skips progressively worse.. Or the cd just cant be readable at track one.

I read that the nvidia ide sw drivers suck. I uninstalled them and reinstalled the default ms drivers, and the problem still persists. I am using nero 6 on windows 2k.

turn the computer on the Microsoft Screen comes on.
Then it has a screen that somes up after that, that
has the word welcome on it.
This seemes like it takes for ever to get over with.
Most likley it only takes 30 to 45 seconds, but I'm

Question: BIOS Skip

Unfortunately I don't have all the specs needed to give ya'll an accurate picture of what's going on, but last night I went to a friend's house and tried to boot BackTrack2 from a live CD on his Dell Dimension 2400. For some reason though, it was skipping the startup/BIOS/boot screen (whatever it's official name is) and never gave me the option of booting from CD. I couldn't find any direct cause of this, and he told me that it has never showed a startup screen before; ever since they had it (he's no computer whiz, but I'm sure he knew what I was talking about in this case).

The other specs that I can remember right off the top of my head:
256 MB RAM
2.40 GHz Processor (I think)
160 GB HDD (Again, I think)
Windows XP Home Ed. (I'm sure SP2)

Any help would be appreciated. Personally, I've never seen a Dell skip a startup screen and I've been working on 2400s at my job for months now. Kind of weird... Thanks!

Question: XP Audio Skip

XP Home Edition
Athalon XP 2100
256MB PC2700
Soundblaster 128 PCI

Had no problems with audio until I had to reinstall XP. After I reinstalled... using either WMP-10 or Creative Play Center... audio skips in various places. Only play MP3's so I don't know if it is all types of audio. It will skip bad in one place... replay and it won't skip in that place anymore, it will be somewhere else. It is not dead sound it just jumps .01-.5 seconds ahead and it is aggrevating to listen to music !

puke: Have updated WMP from V9 to V10... no fix.
puke: Have updated drivers for SB 128 PCI... no fix.
puke: Have done Windows update and installed software driver for Creative Labs sound card... that makes the sound card not work at all, and takes the volume icon away from the tray.
puke: Have unsat and reseated my soundcard.
puke: Have put through dishwasher to get all the dust off, no soap, just kidding.

Here is some more information...
Performance Setting are set to Programs...Programs.
Virtual Memory is set at 750MBinitial 750MBmax.
There isn't anything conflicting in device manager.
WMP or Play Center is only program open.
Tray is not loaded down with processes running.

Help Please.
Can't stand not being able to stand listening to music.

Answer:XP Audio Skip

Did you do a clean install or re-install over the old OS? Its been my experience that the only way to avoid problems is to format and do a clean install especially with XP.

Hi Gang, just started up my son's old xp home edition computer, every time I leave it and return there is a box telling me the machine needs to be 'unlocked', so I click OK and carry on. Is there any way to stop this happening, so far I have been into 'User Account' and 'Power Options' and tried the simple things with no result, so any help would be great. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year to all you people that are so helpful all through the year.

Answer:How to skip logon in xp

Right click your desktop and choose "Properties"
Choose "Screen saver", there a checkbox here enabling/disabling passwordprotected unlocking. Uncheck it and then click ok.

When I first got Windows 10, I experienced frequent crashes and hangs, and I frequently had to restart, because something wasn't working right. About a month ago, the system finally became reasonably stable. Yesterday, I upgraded to build 10586, and so far at least I haven't had any crashes or hangs, but every time I turn the computer on, I have to restart to get everything to work right. Is it possible to just ignore those build upgrade notices, so I can enjoy a stable OS for a while?

Answer:Is It Possible to Skip a Build?

allow the build upgrade..

10586 is the Current build
.29 is the current srvbuild...

thus winver 10586.29

I know exactly what you are talking about and it only happens with porn videos....lol..j/k.. but yes there is really no way to get around it because the owner or creator messed up and made as a "streaming" video which is why you usually see the 256kpbs..or something down while the movie is playing...I have found if you convert that file with TMPGenc and create a new MPEG out of it, you can then move the movie to any position.

My computer has recently been suffering random bursts of lag, meaning that it feels like the computer is skipping like a CD player. The computer is also suffering from a now longer booting time and a laggier shutting down time. I have checked that there's no adware, spyware, nor viruses. How can I solve this problem?

Answer:Bursts of lag or skip

Follow these instructions carefully

Download ALL 8 programs and update if needed.

Ad Aware SE Personal Free

Spybot Search and Destroy Free

Windows Defender 2 Beta

HijackThis Free

Ewido

CCleaner

Cleanup!

Follow these steps

Delete the prefetch folder C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch, this folder will come back on next reboot.

Delete all cookies and temporary internet files in the control panel.

Go to Start, run, type msconfig, go to startup, disable everything except your antivirus, Firewall, click apply, dont reboot yet.

Download Msconfig Cleanup below

Msconfig Cleanup Free

Run Msconfig Cleanup after you unchecked the items you were told to uncheck and recheck, click "Select All", then click "Clean up Selected", then click "Quit". Make sure your antivirus and firewall are not checked.

Now run each spyware program 1 by 1. Running all 3 at the same time will slow most systems down.

When each program has finished scanning, remove everything.

Now go to the recycle bin and delete everything that is in it.

When finished with the scans, reboot, and go into Safe Mode and run these scans again, remove everything they find, and then reboot back into Windows in normal mode. You dont need to run Hijackthis! yet.

Then run HiJackthis!

Save the log, copy and paste the log on www.techist.com
Do not attach the log, copy and paste always. This will make things go much faster.

Question: Audio skip

Im not sure if anyone else has ever had this happen to them but i cant seem to find it anywhere on the net. my audio/video from any playback will skip if there is anything loading on my computer at all. i have a dual core 2.7ghz processor so it shouldnt be having these problems. the cpu usage doesn't even get that high. I have 4 gigs of ram so I dont think its that either. im using the on-board audio and my mobo is a asus m2n-sli deluxe green motherboard and it is fairly new with 7.1 audio. It doesnt say im missing any drivers and I cant figure this out. its getting rather annoying though. the other issue is that when I hit play or stop on any player it takes about 8 seconds to start or stop the music and I think that maybe part of my problem as well. any ideas?

edit: I did read something where someone was able to increase the priority of audio on his system although he was using linux, is there something like that, that could be holding my audio back?

Answer:Audio skip

You could try reinstalling your audio drivers from ASUS support site using your motherboards model number. A malware infection can be active here too

Hi, sometimes when playing a video playlist in Windows Media Player or Realplayer, it'll hang up (black screen) on certain vids for no reason.
Is there an option to make it skip the dud vids and move on to the next?
Sometimes the dud vids work, sometimes not, so I don't want to simply delete them.

hey everyone,
recently an annoying problem came up with all things graphical on my computer. everything from games, to video playback, to scrolling up and down in web pages skips. what ever it is will move normally, then stop for about a tenth of a second, and then jump ahead to where it should be. This happens constantly and makes it near impossible to play games of any sort, and video un-enjoyable. Since it started happening, I've used Darik's Boot and Nuke on the ultimate boot CD to wipe the HD, reinstalled windows, and flashed/reloaded the BIOS, and installed the newest video drivers. As far as I know, that takes care of any possible settings or software problems that might have caused this. my computer is still under warranty, but sending it back and there being nothing wrong with the video card or whatever else will get me charged $$$ for shipping and testing something with nothing wrong. If anyone has any idea how to fix this problem, or how to test my video card to make sure thats whats causing it and there is something wrong with it, or knows what else could have gone bad to cause this, help would be awesome.

I have my computer components in my profile, its computer #1

thanks again,
Bryan

Hi all!
I've seen that many people remove Out of Box Experience in a slim copy of Win XP and I would like to do the same without running into issues. I have XP Pro and Home with activation codes (underneath the laptops).
Actually, I already have both OS activated. So, theoretically I would need to find the activation files, then copy and paste them in the system32 folder of the new installation cd project. If I'm not wrong, WPA.dbl should be the file I need but I remember that Windows needs to be restarted in Safe Mode after the installation in order to replace that file. How to avoid that?
Is it enough to copy the activation files in the system32 folder or will I need to set even something else in nLite in order to skip activation (or, at least, to make this task unattended)?

Answer:How to skip Win XP activation in nLite

I have no idea...what you are referring to.  Can you post a link to discussion of whatever it is that you want to do?

Many of us have used nLite to make slipstreamed copies of the XP install disk...but you seem to have something else in mind.  Best suggestion I can make is to visit the nLite website, http://www.nliteos.com/faq.html .

As I understand it...removing OOBE results in the inability to activate...which, in turn, results in an XP install of little value, IMO.  But I don't know, I've always just copied the original XP install desk fully.

i just bought a new computer: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, Kingston 512 ddr400 ram, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb, SB Audigy x-Gamer, maxtor 80gig 7200 rpm HD, and so on...

well everything was fine until i started installing games to see how sweet this computer really is. I started out with Catalyst 4.5 drivers. I tried Call of Duty, Counterstrike, Sof2, each with the same problem. The games were telling me i had 100 fps (or whatever i had max fps on), and it stayed steady. Yet, i skip every 2-3 seconds i'd say, almost often enough that you could say it just skips the whole time. It's really annoying, and pretty much unplayable if you ask me. I mean some of the skips are so bad that i'll be running around a corner/wall on a map, and it will skip right before i get there, and i'll end up on the other side! its like WTF.

I've tried everything i can think of:

different drivers (Omega 4.3's, and yes i used Driver Cleaner).

figured maybe my sound card was the problem, so i tried it with the onboard Nvidia SoundStorm, same problem.

We messed with the RAM quite a bit, tried some old stuff, but same problem.

The crazy thing is, i could have the game settings on VERY high or very low, it'd be the same.

I went into my bios and disabled AGP 8X support, so its on 4x now, it seemed to have helped out quite a bit, but the lag still exists.

i've heard around that it may be OpenGL drivers, but i tried the games in D3D and same problem, so.....

ANY suggestions would be greatly... Read more

Answer:new computer, games skip/lag, need help

well i guess start with the basics , first run prime 95 (overnite)preferebly to see if any hardware problems exist .

Ok not sure how to xplain this.

i have an old HP Pavilion 7885.
This has a recovery cd with winme. it does not have a hidden partition.

I have added an 250 gb WD. instaled xp upgrade and and that service pack 2.

im also building a new pc.

so im thinking when the new pc is up. ill move all files from the wd to the new pc.

Then remove the original 40 G 5200 hp hdd. And instal the 250wd 7200 . with the xp cd i have for the new pc. and use the key from the xp upgrade cd.

So wil the upgrade key work when i use the other cd. (upgrade xp wont instal without winme on)
or are the key's bound to the cd.

wil i notice any dif. using a 7200 hdd instead of the old 5200 (or was it 5400?)

And wil this old HP work with a clean xp. or do i have to use that crapy recovery with winme? And what happens if i use this recovery on the WD disk?

This pc is gona be used only for hosting my hub.

Answer:skip recovery cd on hp instal xp

It should work atleast 3 times...
