Google Chrome crashed, will not restore or reopen

Question: Google Chrome crashed, will not restore or reopen

I have this:

ERROR SIGNATURE:

Event Type: BEX
P1: chrome.exe
P2: 45.0.2454.85
P3: 55df88lb
P4: guard.dll
P5: 8.2.0.4674
P6: 55c148a3
P7: 000269c9
P8: c0000409
P9: 00000000

I have no other functional browser, am STILL using XP and read
somewhere, which I cannot find now, this may be COMODO related.
But I was lost in the technical lingo and I lost the reference, in
frustration trying to make sense of technical jargon.

Please help, if possible and if there is a doable fix of which someone
is aware, PLEASE lay it out very simply and straight forward.

Thank you,

KJW

Preferred Solution: Google Chrome crashed, will not restore or reopen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Google Chrome crashed, will not restore or reopen

For a whole stack of reasons you really need to get off XP just as soon as possible. In the meantime you can try using a different browser, or an older version of a different browser. Have a read HERE.

For about a week my little cousin has been using my laptop and now when I use google chrome, it takes a bit longer to load up and when it does my CPU meter goes up to 75% and more. however my ram usage stays the same. The home page, google . com, loads up quite slowly but I cannot use any other website. And once in a while a dialog box will pop up saying that google chrome crashed and needs to reboot. but when it does the same thing happens again. The weird thing is that the incognito feature allows me to use google chrome perfectly as if nothing is wrong.

So im guessing its a setting that incognito blocks or something but I have no idea what to look for.

Answer:Google Chrome crashed. CPU at 75%+

Hi skinder056,

Do other browsers such has Internet Explorer(IE) work fine? Try scanning your computer for any viruses/spyware in safe mode. Also, clear the temp folders using a good program called "CCleaner". Hope everything works out well for you.

Greetings,

I have a dell N5110 which i updated from Win7 to Win10. This crash was the first time ever on Win 10 but i have had BSOD in Win7 due to HotSpot shield drivers. Please figure this one out!!

Thanks

Answer:I was using google chrome when this crashed occurred.

Hi obaidrasheed18,

Welcome to the 10forums.

The cause of the crash is your wifi driver.
Please check Dell if there are driver updates compatible with windows 10

Shockwave Flash.

I keep getting this now every time I open a page with animated/video content.

In the past I have been able to get round it by using the IE plug-in tool, but since updating to the latest version of Chrome - that crashes once Shockwave Flash crashes.

If I open up IE8 and it starts (once I have shaved, walked the dog, and split several atoms) I don't have this issue. But who wants to use IE if Chrome works properly?

Anyone else experiencing this found a cure? Google tech sites are full of complaints, but no-one has posted a fix

Cheers

Windows XP SP3
AMD Athlon 1.8 Gig

(I know - it's slow and old. But are you going to buy me a new computer??)

I continue to receive this error after uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome, running SCANNOW and creating a new profile (as Google suggested).

Can't see where to go from here.      Most forums suggest a conflict with new software loaded but nothing new has beed added.

I use Google Apps for business, big headache.  Screenshot of error attached.

I'm out of avenues to pursue, any new ideas are appreciated!

Thanks,

Answer:Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed. Relaunch Now?

Take a look at browser add-ons installed...remove all, then reset or reinstall browser.

Of course...there are other browsers and the lack of problems with other browsers would reinsfoce the concept that it's a Chrome problem, IMO.

From what I see...Google Apps supports the use of other browsers, including IE 11.

Last night, while working on some vhs to dvd videos, I got an alert saying "Google Chrome has crashed". I don't have chrome on my computer. I looked at my task manager, nothing was showing under applications running, aside from nero, but under processes, there are 8+ different things for chrome. (wiljgkxpsy.exe*.32).
I clicked on open folder and apparently the folder was created yesterday at 348pm. The files are hidden and are under: AppData/LocallowApple Computer/CNVCZPGV/MUQUVESC
I ran Microsoft Security and nothing was flagged. I also tried Malware. Nothing related to Chrome was found.

Also, my mouse pointer on the screen is still showing but also will show a round ball like it's waiting/processing something. This didn't happen until last night after the message about chrome crashing.
What can I do to get rid of this.
Please, any help would be appreciated.

Answer:GOOGLE CHROME CRASHED and I don't even have Google Chrome

Hello,

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool () by Farbar and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Model: HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx
Annoyance Level: Extreme

Okay, random weird problem that defies logic. I was busy doing stuff using Google Chrome (logged in on Facebook, trying to browse Newegg, etc.) and I tried logging in to my Newegg account using HP SimplePass, which uses the fingerprint reader technology to log you in to a bunch of different sites. However, this time around, Chrome crashed because HP SimplePass crashed.

I figured it would be best to reboot my system to clear out whatever was going on. However, upon rebooting, I get the "Device driver install yada yada" message that pops up, then it says driver installation failed. Going into device manager reveals that there is an unknown USB device attached (meaning, the fingerprint reader).

I've tried several times to install the driver for the fingerprint reader from HP (which originally had worked just fine). Now, it will not install. No amount of removing the driver and reinstalling it seems to be working, and I'm at my wits end. However, HP SimplePass installs just fine, but since it can't detect the fingerprint reader, it works by remembering typed passwords.

I'd rather NOT have to reinstall Windows if I can help it, but if anyone here has any suggestions that I could try to get this thing to work, that would be great. Thank you!

I opened settings in Google Chrome and accidentally deleted Person 1 under People which erased all my website data, bookmarks, etc. I couldn't find a fix for it so I decided to system restore thinking it would get everything back. However, I tried to system restore and I get an error saying avast did something. I then disabled avast and did a second system restore but it said it failed and recommended that I run a chkdsk /r. The chkdsk got stuck at 10% so I decided not to wait for it and just restarted my computer and skipped the chkdsk.
First of all is there a way to get back the Google Chrome information that I deleted? If system restore is an option, I need help fixing it so that it will restore correctly. I appreciate the help.

Answer:Google Chrome and System Restore

Have you tried starting the computer since you quit the chkdsk?

When you run chkdsk /r it sets the drive as dirty bit.  If the scan wasn't completed it most likely will start again when you restart your computer, if the computer will even start.

When you stop chkdsk it can damage files.

Hi
I have lost my google chrome home page tab layout. Now instead of my home page opening with my favourite tabs, only 1 tab opens 'search.conduit.com'.
I did a system restore thinking that would sort it out, but no... and i looked and recent programs to uninstall, but there is nothing installed that would cause this change.
Advice appreciated!
Thanks

Answer:Restore Google Chrome home page tab layout

You will have picked up search conduit from another program. It's a effectively a virus. See this first and if that doesn't work then im infected. Suggest that you look in control panel - program uninstall for conduit too.
Had this snag too and ashampoo search.

how do I access system restore on my windows 7 computer? I use it at home to access the internet occasionally but use Windows Vista on the public computers at the local library more often. Recently my google chrome browser stopped working on the hard drive but I managed to find a portable copy of the program on the internet which I saved to my store 'n go memory stick. Whenever I wish to access the internet at home I have to plug the memory stick into the USB port on left side of the screen, find the appropriate icon for google chrome portable then click the icon and then I can access the internet. Is there an easier and more secure way to get to the web or do I have to restore my system to an earlier date to get google chrome working on my desktop?

The google chrome icon has disappeared from the bottom left hand side. I would like to have it restored. I am left with Internet Explorer and It is nowhere better than Google Chrome

Answer:restore google chrome to left bottom icons

Do you mean the desktop icon? I'll assume that for now.Find the file Chrome.exe and make a shortcut to it by right clicking the Chrome.exe file and selecting "Create shortcut". It might put the shortcut on the desktop by default but if it puts it in the same area as the Chrome.exe file then cut and paste onto the desktop. The location of the file Chrome.exe can vary with different versions of Windows 7 and Chrome. Use Search to find Chrome.exe then right click the result and note down the path given. If that doesn't work out here are two possible paths to Chrome.exe - look here first: C Drive > Program Files (maybe "Program Files (x86)" > Google > Chrome > Application > Chrome.exeIf you can't find it there do this:First make sure you are set to show hidden folders and files, and all file extensions.Go to Folder Options > View. Put the radio button (blob) in "Show hidden files, folders and drives". In the same place uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". I usually leave them set that way (particularly showing file extensions) but it's up to you. Now follow this path to find Chrome.exeC drive > Users > {user name} > AppData > Local > Google > Chrome > Application > Chrome.exeAlways pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

This morning I moved the cursor over one of them and inadvertently clicked or did something which caused it to be removed from the Chrome start page. I still have eight pages showing because, presumably, the ninth most visited has been put in.
I would like to know what I have done to cause this and, more importantly, how to restore the missing link.

Answer:Google Chrome start page problem - How to restore a link

Go to
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
find file called "Preferences."
Open the file with a text editor, the list of 8 tabs are at the bottom.
modify the locations, i.e. add the site address that you want to appear.

Update: As of Chrome 33, this workaround does not work. However, you may use New Tab Reloaded extension as an alternative.
http://www.omgchrome.com/google-removes-new-tab-page-flag/
http://www.omgchrome.com/new-tab-redirect-closest-youll-get-chromes-old-tab-page/

Here is a quick tip for users of the Google Chrome browser. In the latest version of the browser, Google changed the appearance of the page you get when you want to create a new tab. Now you get a lot of white space, a great big Google logo, and an unnecessary search bar. (See the graphic below.) A lot of people (including me) don?t like it. Fortunately, there is a quick way to bring back the way the new tab page previously looked.

1. Enter "chrome://flags" (without quotes) in the address bar (or ?omnibox? as Google terms it).
2. In the page that opens, scroll down until you locate the entry "Enable Instant Extended API Mac, Windows, Chrome OS". (It?s a long list. You might want to use Ctrl+F and the Find box).
3. In the little drop-down dialog at the bottom-left of the entry, click ?Disabled?
4. At the bottom-left of your window, there should be a button ?Relaunch Now?. Click it. Otherwise, just close and restart the browser.
5. If you want the new style back, click "Enabled" in step 3 above and restart the browser.
And there you have it ? the new tab page the way it used to look

Hi,

Recently it became pretty obvious that my computer was infected with something. When using Firefox, Google links were being redirected and new tabs were popping up. When using Explorer there were similar problems. Chrome didn't even work anymore. Couldn't do a system restore to any time. I tried running AVG, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and maybe another, I can't remember, but the infection was still there.

Before I got to this forum I saw on other forums that everyone seemed to be running Combofix and Hijackthis, so I ran them too, unfortunately before I saw the instruction not to. The good news is that it didn't seem to hurt anything. In fact, I stopped having most of the issues. However, after running Combofix AVG picked up several viruses/malware. I'm probably getting the names wrong, but here's what AVG's history log says: Virus identified Win32/Patched.DX, Trojan horse Generic18.AEXT (twice) and several instances of Runtime packed fsg, whatever that is, related to AAWService.exe, svchost.exe, and Explorer.EXE. Most of these were picked up by AVG while Ad-Aware was running a scan.

Anyway, the problem seems to have gotten better but I don't yet trust that my computer is clean. I ran DDS and GMER. DDS ran fine, but my computer didn't like GMER at all. The scan would finish, but I couldn't save it, and the computer was generally unusable after the scan, forcing me to restart each time. Took 4 tries to run it and save the log, but I finall... 1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

I have almost exactly the same problem running on my computer. I have run zoek, malwarebytes, and AdwCleaner and I still have the problem. Rather than create a new post in the forum I have just replied to this post since it seems so similar. I have now run Farbar and have attached the two logs. I also included a pic of my task manager showing the processes that keep loading. Can you help me? Thank you!

My computer was running slow so I went to my task manager and seen a whole bunch of Google Chrome processes running. I was confused at first because I don't even have Google Chrome installed. As I tried to stop the processes one at a time, more only popped up. Then I looked it up on the net, found others yall have helped on this site, and know there's something wrong. If possible, would like to know how and when the malware was installed as I have multiple students that use the pc and this is the first time ever had this happen, would like to know if it was a user doing something wrong by accident or on purpose (is even possible to know, but mainly would like to just get pc fixed!)

I right clicked and Disabled Antivirus AutoDetect (Norton); Downloaded zoek and have result log attached. Required a pc reboot and did that too. Problem is still happening. It also changed my home page to google.com (I changed it back). I also uploaded a picture of my task manager if that helps any.

Thanks!!!

Hello,

I'm trying to repair my parents computer. They were getting Trojan horse warning messages and crashing to blue screens. So far I have updated the BIOS and uninstalled all the browser addons and questionable apps I found on there PC. Since updating the BIOS it hasn't crashed to blue screen. However I'm getting a lot of lywqyjla.exe processes that say they belong to Google Chrome. I uninstalled Google Chrome and they are still there. Each of them is using varying amounts of memory and the CPU usage keeps spiking. I have run malware bytes and adw cleaner, each of them said they found and removed threats but these processes keep showing up.

I've tried multiple anti-everything programs from Super Anti-Spyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix, Spybot S&D, and various online scans that have found nothing, or found something but never fully cleaned my system. For a week or two, Google was being redirected to various ad sites, but after my system was "cleaned" everything was fine. Now today, anything remotely related to Google won't load at all. I've tried to manually remove the TDSS google-redirecting virus, but I have none of the files that supposedly come along with the virus.

My Lenovo T60 crashed and was not able to be repaired. I do not know what caused my laptop to crash, but according to the PC Tech, the hard drive was reformatted. To be honest, I am here in the Philippines and did not bring my recovery disks with me & I am not so sure about the technical ability of the PC Tech.

That being said, he installed Windows XP Professional on my laptop and partitioned my hard drive. I have a 250 GB Western Digital HD. Before my laptop crashed, the drive was NOT partitioned. After the installation, I now have two drives, C, with 40 GB and D, with about 200 GB.

I lost a lot of photos and music, and other important documents. I decided to try to recover some of these files and used Recuva. The good news is that a lot of missing documents can be recovered. While listing the files and looking at them, I noticed that I had several System Restore points that I can recover.

My question is, can I use the most recent System Restore point that I recover and use that to reinstall all the missing software? I had MS Office 2007 Professional, MS Visio 2007, MS Project 2007, and other software that I do not have the installation disks with me.

From what I have read, System Restore will reinstall the system (registry, files, and software only) and not the My Documents folder.

If this can work, where do I put the system restore file? If need be, I can delete the new partition and resize the C partition, restore, and then repartition the hard drive afterwards.

Answer:Can I use a recovered System Restore point file to restore missing sw crashed laptop?

Since you already lost everything, try the System restore but first backup everything Recuva found onto a USB key. If your version Windows was not the same what the tech installed, it might not work. Also, he should have first ask you what to do with your files before formatting.
Otherwise you will have to wait till you can re-install everything.

An install of Google Crhome browser is apparantly recording cookies while the Google Chrome browser itself is not being used;  the cookies seem to be of webpages and sites that other people in this location visit through another browser.  This makes me thing that the Google Chrome browser sneaks information from the user of other browsers on the computer, and this makes me wonder, what more is being done with this set of cookies lifted from the other browser?

This cannot be normal; is it?

Every day, I come to the particular computer with google chrome on it, open history, see the cookies listed, delete them, and only use the browser in Incognito mode.  No cookies recorded during any of my usage sessions.  Later, after other people who never use Chrome use the computer, go online (with Internet Explorer), makes their website visits, and then finish; when I come back to use the computer again and go online in incognito mode on Chrome, ... there again are more cookies listed, and mostly from sites that I did not visit.

This just seems like it should not be happening.  Tell me about it?

Our brand new Chromebook crashed.  Did the Google Recovery USB thing and within 2 seconds of reboot, the message comes up "an unexpected error occurred" and references the Google Chrome OS Recovery URL, which is where the crash message sent me.  Tried the USB three times.  Repeated the entire process all three times from scratch. Should I just take it back to the store (Best Buy)?  It's only two weeks since we bought it.

I wonder if anyone here has an answer or solution to this issue. It has been discussed for years on Google's Help Forum but they failed to have a solution until now.It  crashes when you navigate down through few levels of the directory to save a file, or choose a file to upload. My current practice: If I wanna download a file, I always save it to my desktop (requires 1 click on the Desktop button on the left panel). If I wanna upload a file, I'll put the file on desktop, and select from there (same 1 click action) I've been doing so for months and it never crash. But whenever I try to navigate further than 2-3 level down, it crashes expectedly.

Get Firefox. It is superior. I am always surprised at Google's inability to patch things despite their invasive always-running-behind-the-scenes updater.Same with their stupid toolbar. Did they ever get around to creating a version for Firefox 5?

Chrome OS is not taking off as Google might have wanted, but the company is not slowing down on development. To get more people to get into the world of Chrome OS, Google has come up with a rather impressive plan. Apparently, the search giant is working on a version of the Chrome web browser that replicates functions of Chrome OS right inside Windows 8.

According to The Verge, the latest developer version of Chrome browser for Windows 8 can be configured to run in Metro (Modern UI). However, the browser is suffering from several bugs so Metro mode doesn?t perform well enough and there are frequent crashes. More important than that, however, is that this new version of Chrome browser brings to the table Chrome OS design, Chrome app launcher, Google app menu bar and support for windows within windows. In other words, the stepping stones for Chrome OS in Windows 8, and a major coup by Google.

Hello,

As noted above, I'm currently having problems with a process that is being detected as Gooogle Chrome taking up most of the resources on my system. This, even though I don't have Chrome installed on my computer. I've tried deleting the file, but it just pops up somewhere else.

I ran FRST and have attached the resulting reports to this thread. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

J

I have many "Google Chrome" processes running (jthzgxbastyz.exe *32), but I don’t have Chrome installed on this computer. I have tried to run Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes anti-root, MacAfee root kit, and several others. Anything I try to open, never actually opens. I ran DDS, but it doesn’t look like its accessing the file system. I am an administrator on this computer, but when I attempt to download anything now from Internet Explorer, I get a Security Alert " Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." I reset IE and it allows me to download the programs, but I still can’t run them. Hope this helps! Seems like I have a full blown infestation. L

I understand the challenges inherent in the situation, nevertheless, not recovering it is simply not acceptable or an option. The browser, mostly free of any plugins (except addblock, unsure if there is anything else), crashed after completely finishing a comprehensive dissertation that has severe medical and legal repercussions, for myself, but also for a large part of the world, as it detailed some yet-unchronicled aspects of an ailment which I've recently established a cure to - including details on fascia-ailment/resolution, chemical roles in various brain-regions with multiple convention-corrections, and mental stress-resolution.

Chrome has not been re-launched since the browser crash.

The typing was done in a forum submission box as a private message to a medical reviewer, who I'd been having correspondence with, and regarding the subject of stress resolution and permanent preemption eradication. Maybe written over 16 hours straight working.

I have download HxD, a hex editor, to try to navigate my ram to find the location of browser tab which contained the text, but no Chrome tabs show up in the memory banks available for searching - and this, itself, is something of error, because I had both incognito and non-incognito browsers open, with multiple tabs in each. Additionally, I have previously read, during a similar situation, that Chrome incognito tabs are not wiped from memory storage.

This text simply needs to be recovered, and I don't care what's involved, i... Read more

Answer:Chrome incognito crashed - need to recover typed text

The problem is that memory may not be assigned in contiguous blocks and can be rolled in and out of active memory via the pagefile. On top of that; unless the program (Chrome) that has control of the active memory page is running, that memory page has probably long since been reused by other programs.

It's a tough lesson to learn but that's why word processors (WP) are used. Most have an auto save feature that will save a work file as you type. If the system or the program crashes for whatever reason, restarting from the saved file is almost automatic. And the saved WP file can easily be copied into a browser page. If data is that important, it makes sense to have more than one copy.

Started my pc, opened Chrome. Got message saying ''VideoStream for Chromecast has crashed". Also had same message for another programme we can't mention here.

Now Chrome is showing black screen on all tabs? Can't open settings, Apps, Bookmarks etc. All I see is the Black screen.
Chrome does show the address in the address bar at top of tab with sad face?
I'm typing this using Edge.

Never had this before? How do I get Chrome working again?

Please assist.

Answer:Chrome - Opens with black page. Nothing working? Crashed?

Ok - So I re-booted and lo and behold it is working normally.

Whenever I open Google Chrome the first time after I finish booting my computer, it hangs for three seconds, during that time I see a wild amount of solid flashing on my hard-drive light indicator.

Upon looking on my task manager, I see 4 Chrome processes running, one of which seems to be causing a'lot of activity on one of the hard-drives. After a said few seconds the process disappears leaving only three processes and no hard-drive activity.

Is there anyway of stopping this kind of strange hard-drive activity when 'm opening chrome? I'm afraid the repeat thrashing might cause my hard-drive to wear out prematurely.

If anyone can help, please respond.

Thank you in advance.

Computer crashes on startup fairly often - I've always thought it was due to running 4 monitors but it is getting more regular. Checked Task Manager this morning and found 11 instances of Google Chrome running before I even opened the browser.
After googling and reading several threads it appears there is some sort of mutating virus on my system. It does not appear that there is a standard anti-virus fix (yet) and I'm fairly basic in my computer tech skills. I got directed to this site from a few others hence I'm here seeking some help.

I've followed the 3 steps and uploaded the 2 files as directed

Any help would be much appreciated

PS I run avast (free) as real time protection and I ran Malwarebytes this morning that picked up nothing.

My computer is running Windows 7.

About a week ago, I started getting messages saying "Google Chrome has crashed" when Google Chrome was not open. When I opened task manager, many Google Chrome processes under the same name were running. To try to fix the problem, I uninstalled Google Chrome, but the processes are still running.

Right now there are about 15 processes named "dlxyoesklw.exe *32" with the description "Google Chrome" in the task manager. The number of running processes changed frequently, and there are sometimes more than 30 running, all using various amounts of memory. When I press "End Process," more processes just appear.

If I press "Open File Location," it now takes me to C:\Users\Owner\AppData\LocalLow\EmieBrowserModeList\igsqvescqy\mwqvrxfk
If I try to delete the .exe file, it says "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Google Chrome. Close the file and try again" but of course Google Chrome is uninstalled.

Twice I have tried to delete the whole folder by restarting the computer and quickly deleting it before the processes launched. This did not work, as the processes still appeared after the file was deleted, and the folder relocated to a new one under \AppData\LocalLow\
The folder used to be in \AppData\LocalLow\EmieSiteList\ before it relocated.

I have G Data TotalSecurity 2014 installed but it did not find anything.

This behavior is very suspicious. What should I... Read more

For the past few days when I open up Google Chrome I get a white page with a yellow ribbon at the top that says "Chrome didn't shut down correctly" and then an option to "restore" which only brings me to a new tab page.
I have looked for solutions and have tried going into appdata and changing my "Default" folder into "Default_old" then closing down Chrome and opening it again but that doesn't work (and I don't get another "Default" folder as the instructions says I should). I have tried disabling my extensions (of which pretty much all of them are ad blockers) and apps. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome but so far nothing has worked. Am I just not doing these things correctly? Is there another way I can stop this? Because I would really love to open up Chrome and have my homepages there.

Thanks!

So my little sisters boyfriend deleted all the history on my Google Chrome, 'to free up space' and I think he's been on something weird on my laptop, and want to find out. I googled how to get the history back and the other thing I fully understood was to do a System Restore to back before he deleted it. I did that three times to different points in time, definitely before he did it and it hasn't changed anything. If anyone else has any ideas they would be much appreciated, although please bear in mind I'm not massively great with computers! Thank you

Answer:How to restore Chrome history, system restore not working?

I don't think you can get it back unless you had a backup, System Restore doesn't affect data so that's why it doesn't work.

Why do you need the History restored anyways?

I have first been getting these problems when I downloaded Comodo IS Pro. Apparently when I approached them for help, the technician did not reply to me after telling me to install.

Thus I did a system restore and the computer could load in normal mode(however the screen, etc loaded slow like hell.)

Yesterday, I downloaded comodo firewall and something familiar appeared

From Problem Reports and solution, these are the service that crashed:

4X svchost.exe
1X lsm.exe
1X sandboxie.exe
1X wininit.exe

But guard32.dll from comodo is the module causing it according to Problem Reports and Solution, but anyone knows why and how to solve it?

Answer:Svchost crashed, windows start up crashed, local session manager crashed

Have you tried uninstalling Commodo to see if it is causing the problem?

I've been on here reading lots of posts for a few days and haven't quite found what I'm looking for so I'm posting in hopes of finding a solution.

I have a year and a half old HP Notebook, out of warranty, with an OEM Win 7 (I think 32 bit).
I have the Key off the bottom of the machine.
I did not make back-ups or any Repair or Recovery Disks

About a week a ago my HD crashed and wouldn't boot to anything but the windows logo. I ran all diagnostics available in the BIOS and it determined that the HD was bad. I tried Recovering with the internal Recovery drive/partition and now when I boot I get a screen asking me to Repair Windows or Start normally. If I choose Repair, it goes to a screen with a blue background and white light rays coming in from the top. For a second a window pops up and disappears (It looks like a command line window) and then nothing else happens. There is a functioning mouse arrow on screen, but nothing else and nothing seems to be happening. I've let this sit for hours just in case and nothing happens. If I choose Start normally, it goes to the Win logo screen and tries to start up and within 5 min it goes to the "blue and white light ray screen".

I have assumed that this drive is no longer going to work and have obtained a brand new drive, exactly the same as the original. Now I need to find a way to install this and get it up and running with Win 7. ( I am aware that I can order Recovery Disks from HP and get this done quickly, but right now... Read more

Good day everyone,

My dad was using the computer after me and when I came back I noticed it was off (even though I was in the middle of some work). When I turned it back on, Windows said there was an error in the last time it was shut off. I thought nothing of it and went on my merry way. However, upon opening up chrome did I discover that something indeed was wrong.

All my extensions were wiped out. Completely. After the initial shock, I gathered my self and tried re installing the ones I could remember. However, not a single one could be installed. Instead, I kept meeting this message, "Package is invalid. Details: 'Could not unzip extension'."

After scouring the mighty sea of Google, I don't have a flying clue what happened and how to solve my current predicament.

I read someone suggesting system restore in an article. However, as luck would have had it, the last system restore point is when I had a virus attack with a software I downloaded. It took quite a while to clean up everything and I'm hoping I don't have to deal with that (at this point, my understanding of system restore could be questionable, so do let me know if it's a good option).

Please do advise, as I'm completely stumped.

Thank you for your time!

At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.

I'm back again with what seems to be my favourite problem - already encountered twice on my daughter's HP laptop and now have it on my IBM desktop.

WIN XP has crashed - I have both an XP CD and a complete recovery suite of CDs from manufacturer. The recovery CDs will only allow a complete restore to manufacturer original config (with loss of data) but I can access the WIN XP recovery console from the XP CD ....

Seems when attempting either a reinstal or repair with the XP CD that my hard drive is in fact already erased - no existing WIN XP installation is found....

I get C: Partition 1 [unknown] 148625Mb <148624 mb free>
Partition 2 <inactive> OS/2 Boot Man 4001 Mb 180mb free

From previous experience that tells me there is NOTHING to recover on my hard drive ...am I right ...so I may as well go for a complete restore with no repair/recovery attempt ?

Yes - I did backup the C:"My Documents" folder yetsrday to an external hard drive before the crash so it's not a total disaster (I realise now I should have probably backed up C: documents and settings...but that's down to experience now) ...all I may lose is my email history ...

Before I go for the big restore....any advice from the experts ?

Answer:XP crashed - about to do a complete restore but before I do ..!!

I am working on a Compaq R4000 Presario laptop. Service TAG: R4012US running XP Home Edition. P/N: px356ua#aba w/1.5GB RAM.

Brought in today. Owner tried installing McAfee and it became non-responsive as far as getting onto the Internet and loading programs. I tried uninstalling but it doesn't appear in add/remove programs and there isn't any uninstall program in the program folder. I tried System Restore five times and it wouldn't revert back to any previous restore points. I then performed a chkdsk /r /f and once that was completed the system will not load XP. I get the advance selection of safe mode . . .and all of that but it simply keeps rebooting.

Unless someone has any other ideas here, is there a site where I can download restore disks for XP? It looks as if Microsoft no longer makes that available. It's been a frustrating day to be sure.

Oh yes, I have tried loading the last known good configuration, debugging, etc. Nothing works.

Thanks

Yesterday, I was simply browsing the FirearmsTalk forums when I noticed none of my pages would load (yet it still showed a good connection). So I open the Network Connections and almost immediately my computer shuts down. I reboot, and the following error message comes up;

"Windows Could Not Start Because the Following File Is Missing or Corrupt: /system32/hal.dll

Please reload this file (or something to that effect)"

After rebooting again, I could get as far as the Setup (F2 at startup), or the screen that would let me choose the "Safe Mode", "Last Known Good Configuration", etc. before this message would come up again (in other words, no options would let me get past the original error message).

So, because everything important was on a different computer, I decided to simply reload Windows via the original recovery CD's. The original System CD and 3 Recovery CD's seemed to be working until right before the last one would finish, where I would get the error message;

"Fail in creating or opening a file"

then

"Cannot find preload.tag for SetBootIni-"(not sure if the message continues, the window looks like it cuts it off)

Then it asks me to restart the entire process by inserting the first System CD, to which the process just repeats.

Some additional info:

Answer:Crashed, now unable to use the Restore CD's

Want to try this?

USE SYSTEM RESTORE WHEN YOU CAN'T BOOT YOUR COMPUTER

If your system has failed to the point where you cannot access the Windows GUI either through booting normally or through safe mode, you may still have the chance to use the System Restore feature if you have it enabled, by running it from the command prompt. To do this:

Restart your computer and press F8 after the POST screen to bring up the Windows XP boot menu. Choose 'boot in safe mode with command prompt.'

If your system gets to the command prompt successfully, type '%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe' and then press enter. Follow the onscreen instructions to restore your computer to a previous saved point.

A couple of days ago my desktop froze. I tried to restart it but it failed. I have gone through all the troubleshooting options, starting with a system restore and then a reset. Each time it says there is an error and it can't complete the process. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed? Thanks

Answer:H30-50 crashed won't reset or restore

Hi Pd163 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Immediate concern is the information you have on the computer.
Would you need it? Using a live boot media would allow you to do it.

If you have gone through the advance recovery options offered by Windows  ,then perhaps you can consider a factory reset (hoping that the harddrive is still ok). Repair using a Windows image can also help if issue are just on the software side . One Key Recovery (page18) may be the last option.

Update us how it would go best for you at this point.

We have Windows7 and an exterior drive backup. This exterior backup advised us this morning that a partition was full.

We tried to shut the system down - and it asked if we wanted to 'correct' something in the system (it said it was trying to decide). We opted to 'save' the changes and were prompted to reboot the system,

When the computer came back on - there was a white line across the middle of the screen, changed to black and the whole screen 'faded to black'.

Since then, we have tried a variety of things

We did ALT F10 - the system goes to Windows and the Ace restore menu

We did a system restore (NOT FULL)

Then we got

Error Code 1392 The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

I SOOOOOOOOOO hope someone can give us a little direction to get this thing back up and running

One of the back up files says it was created in Sept 7 - and we cannot get into it. For some reason - the ongoing back up is not showing any more recent date than Sept

We DO NOT want to lose the data that hopefully is still in the computer

Any suggestions would really be appreciated - thank you

Answer:system crashed and won't restore

That sounds like your hard (external) disk is corrupted. Who is the maker on the drive?

Someone got a message into my computer telling me I had to call them or my computer would shut down. It appeared three or four times but restarting the computer with the power switch always worked. I figured the best thing to do would be a system restore back a couple weeks to before it began. When system restore finished, the computer quit working and only boots to the problem was detected and the system would restart screen after which the automatic repair starts and the computer freezes.

Hi, I attempted a factory restore on my Z60m and followed the steps for putting in the different R&R and PR cds.  I put in product recovery disc 3 and then the computer crashed.  When I turned the laptop back on it told me I would need to restart the process, I attempted to do so and it said it couldn't find the service partition.  When I boot the computer with the Rescue and Recovery disk it attempts to do the first step of the factory restore process but it cannot complete the process. Please help!  Is there anything I can do?  Let me know if there is any additional information that might help out.

Answer:Z60m crashed during factory restore

Kashmir, welcome to the forum,

what was your reason for running a factory restore; just for fun, it was about time, system was crashing or hanging?

Have you made any changes to your hardware recently; added memory or whatever?

My reason for asking; in my experience if a system crashes during a factory recovery it's quite often down to a hardware component being defective. It could also mean thet the recovery discs are defective.

Alright, so this computer is a Windows ME and all of a sudden, it crashed. The computer, afterwards, would start up normally, and then nothing would happen. All icons on the desktop were gone, clicking on one would bring up nothing. Nothing would work. Everything is gone, obviously. We were out of town for a week, and we came back and it is still the same.We found the start-up disc thing (in this case, it is a floppy), and we inserted it and tried to see what it did, if we could restore it. Nothing is happening still. Is this computer completely gone, or can we still fix it somehow?

Answer:Windows ME Computer Crashed - How to restore? HELP, please.

What is the make and model of the computer? Do you have a Windows ME CD? Any CD's that say Microsoft on them? How about some (any) clues about the actual hardware? Did you have malware protection running? Any recent problems? Before we can pronounce it dead or alive we need to know what the patient looks like.

Spare laptop as above running Windows XP. Three days ago I entered Acer e settings, and inadvertently pressed a wrong button.  It started to wipe everything. I switched off after 6-7 seconds, and on restarting the laptop would not boot. 1st message : NTLDR missing;  then 2nd message : file missing or corrupt <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll   and to reinstall that file.I have downloaded Lazesoft Recovery Suite (recommended by a UK computer magazine) hoping to recover lost files, etc. I have also been informed that I can restore the Acer laptop to its factory setting by using Alt + F10.  I have not tried this as yet.  Should I use Lazesoft Recovery first, hoping to recover missing files, and then load them onto a CD/DVD, or USB stick ? THEN restore to factory settings, and hopefully load contents from CD/DVD, etc back onto the laptop ? With the Lazesoft Recovery on a DVD I am able to boot up, but at the moment I am still studying its menus before attempting to recover files. I am a relative novice with laptops - self taught on a Windows Vista for 5 yrs, and my age ? -70+

Answer:Acer 1640Z crashed XP help to restore.

laurent_14,  Thanks very much for your assistance.  Yesterday, I still could not get out of the 'loop' and did factory restore 7 times.  In then end I booted from a DVD on which I had made a backup using Macrium Reflect.  I had made that backup sometime last year.  From the Macrium backup I have got things working again, and everything looks fine.I did try the Macrium disk last week, but had no success with it, so that was possibly due to my inexperience. Anyway, Thanks very much, once again, and I will certainly bear in mind Acer Community for any future problems.Regards,Fred.

Hi,I was recently infected with the Windows Repair bug and fixed (maybe its still there) it via one of the posts on the sites. So I'm thinking I might have had a couple of other infections that were dormant for a while or Malwarebytes or Symantec never noticed. After fixing that, I noticed Google Chrome stopped working. When I started googling in Firefox and IE i noticed the page would redirect. And then an the "Internet Explorer Script Error" with the URL pointing to apparent spam urls "http;//celebrity-gossip.net/ashley-tisdale..." as an example. So I updated and ran Malwarebytes AM, Symantec & Microsoft Defender to see what they would. Symantec found an bloodhound virus in an archived drive. And i cleaned whatever Malwarebytes found, forgot now since its been a 4 days.I've tried the TDDSkiller.exe and that wouldnt launch. I tried renaming it too, but nothing.I found another thread and tried cleaning with SuperAntiSpyware and Hitman.I don't remember the correct order I've ran these, but followed according to the threads, including safed mode, internet off, etc...Anyways, any help is appreciated. here is the log:.DDS (Ver_11-03-05.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Mikael at 21:35:05.37 on Thu 04/07/2011Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_24Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.2047.902 [GMT -7:00].AV: Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition *Enabled/Updated* {FB06448E-52B8-493A-90F3-E43226D3305C}.===========... Hi! I am a heavy google search user who frequently uses google to: define ___, calculate equations etc.

But recently my google search results is changed to:

The top bar still appears perfectly normal when I am not in the search result page:

If it is related, bing has problem as well - it goes black screen:

The characteristics are:
One page itself:
- Words appear bigger
- It seems like I've log out but I am actually still logged in
- Google tips and tricks such as define, tilt etc all are not working
- Clicking "more" and "search tools" refresh the page and does nothing.
Others:
- In other places such as email, youtube, the functionality remains completely normal and unaffected
- I do not think the problem is related to the external internet settings as other devices are able to access these functions/websites without any problem.
- I have no problem accessing any other webpages.

Solutions tried and still not working:
- Completely reset google chrome's setting
- Reinstalling google chrome
- Resetting internet explorer setting
- Resetting computer's ip setting through cmd- netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
- Full scan with avast antivirus.

Any other ideas please? Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated as these tips and tricks are a truly useful function for me.

Answer:Google Chrome: Google Search Extra Functions (Tips) Not Working

I too have the exact same problem. i have tried hard for a month+ on 100s of sites with no avail. this probably is some super smart form of malware/virus which changes your IE's lan proxy settings to "127.0.0.1:8080.proxy.pac", this seems to affect chome and IE while firefox looks ok. the only "visible" difference is with the google main page as you described you'll also notice that at the bottom of the page, the number of page results are limited to 10 and no more, you just cant see more results than that. I couldnt find any any solid fix to this (not even complete reformat) The only temporary solution(till next reboot) seems to be to go to internet options in IE - connections tab - deselect that proxy setting and select automatically detect settings though i personally use hola better internet extension which seems to fix the problem till its kept on. I want this dreaded issue to get some attention so that am actual solution is found :/

For a few days now, after getting one of those fake "antivirus" programs my Google Chrome browser is unable to open any pages. I can open them in IE and Firefox, but on those browsers any links I click typically get redirected to random advertisement websites rather than the page I'm trying to reach.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Apologies if this has been previously addressed, but I couldn't find much by searching through the forums.

I'm wondering if there is a way to permanently hide/remove recently visited sites from the Google home page in the Chrome browser?

I have set Chrome to "Keep local data only until I quit my browser," and installed the Click & Clean extension from the Chrome Web Store and set it to "Delete private data when Chrome closes," (http://www.howtogeek.com/137681/how-to-automatically-clear-private-data-when-you-close-your-browser/) but neither of these actions are deleting those recently viewed sites from the Google home page.

Judging by the amount of complaints found through googling, there are a lot of people who hate this, so I'm hoping there's a work around out there that I just haven't found yet. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would sincerely appreciate it!

I'm running Mac OS X v. 10.6.8, and Chrome version 30.0.1599.101 (up to date at time of posting).

Answer:Google Chrome recently visited sites on google home page - permanently hide?

Has anyone successfully used Click & Clean for this purpose? :S
