I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just installed a new HDD and re-installed windows XP sp 3 on it and since doing so I have lost my smooth scrolling in both vertical and horizontal planes.

So far I have:

*checked the smooth scrolling box in IE & Mozilla
*unchecked the smooth scrolling restarted and rechecked smooth scrolling
*Installed latest drivers for ATI card
*Undated motherboard drivers
*Installed earlier ATI drivers

I have searched forums and the net for a week now and nothing other than those solutions (or re-install windows) have been offered.

Any help would be a miracle!

I don't really know where to begin. This problem has been going on for a while now. I've tried all the obvious things, and am now working with a fresh install of Windows XP SP3.

I first noticed something was up when I installed my new graphics card (Passive HD 3650 by Club 3D). Whenever I watched a video file whether on my hard drive or streaming (youtube, iplayer etc) I got strange horizontal lines all over the screen. After a bit of research I discovered a lot of information about solving this kind of issue, but everything I read gave the same answer - Turn on wait for V-Sync in ATI Catalyst Control. Some also recommended tripple-buffering. I have tried various combinations of these settings with the last 3 versions of the ATI driver (8.4 .5 and .6) This didn't help my problem at all. In the end I managed to solve the issue by using the EVR renderer in Media Player Classic Home Cinema. With the default options there was still a lot of tearing, but by enabling Lock Back-Buffer there was no tearing at all. Obviously, this didn't help my tearing issues in other applications. Particularly annoying is the tearing when browsing in Firefox and Internet Explorer. Scrolling pages is very unpleasant experience on my HP w2207h 22" monitor. I have also tried with a different monitor and a different cable (VGA rather than DVI/HDMI) and i have the same issues.

How can i tell if I have a faulty card? Should I be expecting this with a mid-range card like the 3650... Read more

Did you not uninstall the old driver for your old graphics card? If you didn't you need to uninstall the old driver and use the disk you got with your new card to install the new driver. That should fix your problem.

I recently deleted several programs from my PC due to adware pop-ups and think I must have deleted something that relates to smooth scrolling (I didn't keep a list of what I'd deleted)as the page now jumps when I scroll down. I've been into internet options on the control panel and smooth scrolling is enabled and it is also enabled in the registry- 0x00000001 (1). Has this happend to anyone else before? Question: Smooth Scrolling

G'day, mates -

I canna get my browser (Firefox)to scroll smoothly..... every time I scroll up and down on a Web page, the image jumps, making reading text almost impossible. I've tried checking Smooth Scrolling under the Advanced tab (Tools/Options), but to no avail. I'm running XP HE (SP1) on a 1.8 GHz machine. I just re-installed XP, along with Adelphia's Freedom Security package, after wiping my hard drive clean to get rid of some remarkably persistent malware.

Again, it sounds like drivers. Make sure the motherboard drivers are installed and up-to-date - espcially if it's a Via chipset board - and make sure you have the latest drivers for the graphics.Slow scrolling is almost always down to a system that can't cope with the load - your basic specs should be more than adequate, but drivers and other applications/viruses/Anti-Viruses/etc can slow things down.

Question: Smooth scrolling

Hi folks, a small problem you can maybe help me with.
On my XP computer I upgraded Internet Explorer from version 6, to IE8 a few days ago. Everything went fine, however I instantly noticed that web page scrolling has been affected, and is now very jumpy. Using the mouse wheel, the page scrolls in several jumps even after I let go of the wheel.
In IE I've looked at tools> Internet options> advanced, and under the browsing list have made sure that "use smooth scrolling" is ticked. Also in control panel mouse properties buttons, autoscroll, scrolling size is set to one line, and "use MS office compatible scroll only" is ticked. However, when I close the mouse properties box, I get a warning .... Run a DLL as an app has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.... Not sure what this means?
Funny thing is, I also runs Firefox on the same PC, and scrolling web pages on that is absolutely fine, perfectly smooth, no jerks, and one line at a time. So it's definitely IE8 related
As always, any help proffered is gratefully received.

I have Internet Explorer 6 and i got problems scrolling.

I can scrool and all with the scroll on my mouse but it seems to scroll like 5 lines at a time. And instead of actually scrolling the page, it pauses then moves 5 lines down.

I want smooth scrolling instead of skippign those 4 other lines it actually shows them but passes them quickly

Answer:Smooth Scrolling!

This is actually a hardware problem, I think. At least it was in my case. I had to install the graphics driver for my video card and one for my monitor. And all my scrolling problems went away.

What kind of video card do you have and what kind of monitor? If you don't have a cd (which I didn't in the case of my monitor), go to the web site and download the file. The only reason I had the cd for the graphics card was that my husband had just bought the same card for his system. Liz

I have a windowsxp computer which i got upgraded, upgraded the ram from 512mb to 1gb...and also updated the graphics card. the computer just would not work after this, so i decided to take out the extra ram and it seemed to work fine. however, after sitting in my lounge for two or three months i decided to restore it all to factory settings to give to a friend. it all works fine, but only thing is when its scrolling it kind of gives a swimming makes you feel dizzy! as opposed to the smooth scrolling. any ideas on how to fix this???? is it because i updated the graphics card? would this have come back off after i restored it all?? sorry for sounding so dumb, but its just one little thing that is rather annoying! thanks for any advice....

when you restored pc to original it doesnt have the driver to the new card . you will need to dl the drivers for your video card and install them

Sometimes I get this annoying problem. My mouse scrolls fine(smooth) most of the time, but sometimes
it scrolls jumpy(skips a few lines each scroll). I did set the mouse wheel options in Control Panel to 1 line per scroll(after this issue automatically appeared), which is the min, but this problem occurs without any changes made by myself.

It happens in my browser and all other apps I run on the PC (photoshop, Windows Explorer etc)

If I reboot my PC, the problem is gone. How can I solve this mouse scrolling jumping issue?

I have a t430 2342CTO with the latest ultranav drivers installed. I have seen screenshots of older versions of the driver where you can select smooth scrolling for the trackpoint. I was wondering if there is any way to enable this behavior in the current driver. Also, is there any way I can change the amount of lines scrolled by the trackpoint? Changing the windows setting only seems to affect the touchpad, not the trackpoint. Perhaps there is a registry setting or something?

It's a waste for me to have 120hz monitor when I can only trully enjoy it during gaming or dragging and dropping files, icons, active windows etc.
When I scroll down using the mouse button or just dragging the slide bar, I get this very jerky motion, which is really annoying especially when you want to scroll through lines of text while trying to read them at the same time, looking for specific word.
I googled the problem but no solution came up. Luckily for Chrome I did find an extension called "Chromium Wheel Smooth Scroller", its made by the same people who made "Yet Another Smooth Scroller" for Firefox. This extension works flawless and exactly what I wanted to achieve. Unfortunately now when I look at the rest of my desktop, scrolling through Total Commander, IRC, Foobar2000 makes it really painfully obvious how shitty the scrolling in Windows is.

My question, does anyone know of a program or a way to enable ultra mega smooth scrolling in Windows 7?

My apologies if this has already been answered somewhere, I did a search but could not find it....

I have smooth scolling enabled for my web browser and it is nice, however for local windows when working on my computer I can't seem to make it happen. I found something called tweak ui that was suggested on another forum but it's "enable smooth scrolling" feature does not seem to affect local windows. The default "jerky" scrolling is just plain frustrating when scrolling through a long list of files looking for something in particular. When the list moves in large jerky increments it's very difficult to keep track of where you are in the list.

Is smooth scolling possible in all windows, not just web browsers???

First of all, I'm not sure which forum I should use for this question, so if you're a moderator, please move it to the correct forum if appropriate.

Fortunately, I am able able to engage a form of smooth scrolling by clicking on my scroll wheel (I am a Windows 10 user) . It changes the cursor indicator to show that the "smooth scroll" is now engaged, and to initiate the scrolling I just move the mouse slightly. Acceleration, deceleration, or stoppage of the scrolling is accomplished with the degree of movement of the mouse (not the scroll wheel, in other words).

My neighbor, who also uses Windows 10, does not have this feature when he clicks on his scroll wheel. To see if it was an issue with his mouse I transferred my Logitech mouse and receiver dongle to his computer, but it didn't work either, so the smooth scrolling feature is apparently a software or perhaps a driver feature, but not a mouse hardware issue.

Does anyone know how to engage, enable, install (or whatever the appropriate term is) this form of smooth scrolling on a/any Windows PC?

I didn't find a good answer to that question by Googling it, even though I found one posting on how to engage an experimental feature by Google for the Chrome browser, which both my neighbor and myself use. I would think there's a broader, less specific and risky application available somewhere, somehow, but I haven't found it thus far.

Hi all

I like to work on my Word docs zoomed to 74% so I can see two pages at once, but very annoyingly Word decides that it would be just too easy if I could then use smooth scrolling when dragging the scroll bar! It reverts to a state of me dragging the scroll bar and seeing no change until I release the scroll bar. Very unuseful.

I'm on windows 7 Home premoium 32-bit, in case that matters. And I'm on a laptop so not using a mouse and its scroll wheel, and the scroll on the trackpad isn't working at the moment.

Surely there's a simple answer! But neither Word Help nor google revealed anything.

Cheers one and all

While smooth scrolling works fine with my Chrome browser when I engage it by pressing down once on my scroll wheel, my neighbor, who is also using Chrome (We both use Windows 10 also), does not get smooth scrolling when you press down on his mouse's scroll wheel. Is that possibly because of his mouse's features /capabilities, a Chrome issue, or something else?

Thanks for looking

Answer:Pressing on scroll wheel does not engage smooth scrolling

Pressing the mouse wheel enables scrolling by moving the mouse (notice the mouse cursor changes). It's a Windows function and should work in all browsers. If it's not enabling, it's most likely a mouse issue. Could be a faulty mouse, or there is mouse software installed and the mouse button has been remapped.

In windows 7 and windows 10 preview this works fine.

I clean installed win 8.1 PRO for testing on my spare rig.

Used IE11 a small amount and smooth scrolling was working.
I Installed all cricitial and reccomended updates via windows update. Included was also a nvidia driver update. Rebooted of course/
Now in IE11 the smooth scrolling is always off, even with the box ticked.

I tried toggling the tick.
Tried using the reset settings option in IE11.
Still no smooth scrolling.
This is a clean install, no 3rd party software, no imported data.
No customisation of the ISO other than to add a EI.CFG to disable the requirement of a key.

Any ideas?

Answer:IE 11, clean install, smooth scrolling doesnt work.

Roll back the driver or get one from the manufacturer's website.

Microsoft drivers have a bad reputation.

edit--- I'm lazy when it comes to driver updates & use a program to find them for me.

I have this problem with my Tecra 9100 that after moving my cursor for a few seconds it 'leaps' to whatever direction I was pointing to. This is very annoying. Aswell as this, when I scroll, it is not smooth at all but like the cursor, it 'leaps'. So when I try scrolling down a page I've gotta be careful because it might just leap to the bottom! Thought I should also mention that dragging Windows is jumpy too.

I am almost certain that these three problems are all related to each other.

Before, my laptop was fine with none of the problems above. This was until error messages saying 'Delayed Write Failed' popped up out of the blue. Such errors I have found to be related to the hardrive not functioning correctly.

Optimisticly, I formated Drive C and put a fresh installation of Windows on to see if this would fix my problem. Surely it would?... Nope. How about I download the MouseWare driver that my laptop came with?... Still doesn't fix the problem.

I've run out of ideas and don't think a software update will fix my problem. I believe it's to do with my hardware (namely speaking, hard disks). I've got 2 hard disks. Coincidently, 'Delayed Write Failed' error messages shows up on both my hard disks.

Please reply, thankyou.

Answer:Tecra 9100: Jumpy cursor and scrolling not smooth.

Yes! I have finally distinguished what is causing my problems! After all the trouble I went through I have just discovered that a Video Card driver update is what fixed it! It's not perfect but atleast I can scroll alot more smoothly! :)

The latest system update installed UltraNav driver of 4/6/2012.  This apparently implements smooth scrolling which is very nice to use BUT it significantly reduces my battery life.  I'd like to optimise battery life and return to my previous scrolling functionality.  I'd appreciate advice on how to determine which version of the driver I was running before this update, and how can I restore that version of the driver.  (I tried using the roll-back function in Windows Device Manager but that installed version of 7/6/2007 which disbaled scrolling altogether.) T617658CTO Windows XP SP3

Answer:Restoring previous UltraNav driver to disable smooth scrolling

I stumbled onto the Fn-F8 facility for managing UltraNav and realise that I was confusing the smooth-scrolling function introduced in recent versions of FireFox with the EdgeMotion function in UltraNav which was presumable introduced on my system when I upgraded UltraNav from to  I have disabled smooth-scrolling in FireFox but enabled EdgeMotion in UltraNav which seems like a nice compromise between convenience and power consumption. I still have minor quibbles with UltraNav, specifically, when I try to scroll within drop-down boxes in my usual Web applications (like Redmine, for example) the drop-down pane immediately disappears.  I have to drag the pane control on the right (sorry, don't know the correct name for this) to find the option to select.  Before the upgrade I could scroll within dropdowns on the trackpad.  I also have a little block with up and down marks appearing to the left of the pointer arrow when I scroll which wasn't there before.  I'd appreciate any advice about addressing these issues.

Cleaned out PC, fresh install of XP and decided to toss that ol' Windows 7 7100 64bit ISO on for fun

Onto my problem, specs, other info below.

I have really laggy IE8 scrolling. Even on [H] forum with no graphics other than the newegg ad. Anything longer than about a page and a quarter is laggy as heck. It's really horrible to watch it tear up the screen with mouse wheel scroll lock, the one you can just move mouse up or down to adjust scrolling speed. I get page tearing similar to a game with v-sync off and falling down to 10fps.

Win7 build 7100 installed fine, only device needing drivers was my 4890HD
Did some updates via Windows Update, Installed ATI 4890 W7 ver 9.8 64bit drivers

Only other problem, and this happened after first reboot after video driver install...

I ran the Windos Experience Index(WEI), it crashed, black screen, no recovery, HD remained active for maybe 20-30 seconds after. CTRLALTDEL no go. Rebooted the machine, it complained about HD needing a scan, no problem, no errors there. Went back to W.E.I and ran the test again, completed fine, re ran it several times to check, never happened again. I haven't installed any 3D apps, games yet, so this was my stress test! L O L. Lastly, I don't remember a scrolling issue with Vista when I had it on here, though that was Vista 32bit Ultimate not 64 bit as is this Windows 7 install.

As suggested per this bug-report at the Google Chrome forums...
BUG: hitting CTRL while the window is still scrolling zooms it
...I am now posting here as it turns out to be a driver related issue.I am running on a Y580, Win 10, got Lenovo Touchpad drivers installed via Windows Update. This has bugged me for a veeery long time and I finally figured out what causes it.The problem is this:
In any application where I scroll content, the "smooth" scrolling of the touchpad makes the display scroll even after I am done performing scroll gestures. In itself that ain't a bad thing, if only the application wasn't thinking I am still performing the gesture. Well, they all do. And that is a problem, because the second I touch the CTRL key, and I do that often, a ZOOM-EVENT fires and so I am constantly forced to reset the zoomlevel.Note that the current driver ui doesn't give me an option to disable smooth scrolling. In general, on the level of touchpad drivers, there needs to be a clear difference between "user is actually performing a scroll action" and "driver is still busy firing scroll events thanks to some smoothifying algorithmagic".
I now disabled scrolling in the driver settings alltogether and use TwoFingerScroll to do the scrolling; it allows me to set scrolling to "compatible" rather than "smooth". Scrolling now feels a wee more staccato but seeing an end to all the unwanted zooming that ain't a bad thing, at all.~FWIW, apart from some more tou... Answer:Y580 - Problem: leftover momentum of "smooth" touchpad scrolling triggers zooming

I had this same problem when using Google Chrome on my T440s (under both Windows 7 and Windows 10). The continual zooming had been annoying me for months, until yesterday I figured out that I was pressing the control key while there was some still some scrolling momentum. Thankfully in my case the fix is simple: I have turned down the "scrolling intertia" in the Synaptics control panel, and I am no longer experiencing unintentional zooming.

I was using Firefox 40 Beta 64bit version in Windows 7 but it was not so smooth.

But Firefox 40 Beta 64bit version in Windows 10 is so smooth. Its feels so crisp & responsive and does not feel like a beta version at all. I think Firefox 64bit version is going to be a great release and I can't wait to see the new appearance for Windows 10.

So if you are using Windows 10, then I strongly suggest you to try the 64bit version of Firefox.

Answer:Firefox 40 Beta 64bit version is so smooth in Windows 10

Your not kidding here. It is smooth on Windows 10. Also as fast as Chrome x64 (in my opinion anyway - every system is different). I always prefer using the parent instead of a child/build off like Cyberfox since you get faster patches, better support, etc. so now I have an excuse to use Firefox proper again. Never heard of Privacy Badger but will check it out.

Thank you for the post. Didn't know Firefox was actually planning a stable release for x64 of Firefox. I also see that version 40 added full support for Windows 10. It's great that they didn't rush the support as that normally results in problems.

Smooth Key Scroll - Chrome Web Store

My new Samsung 850 ssd scrolls too fast with the arrow keys on my keyboards, Samsung says noway. No matter what I try to adjust on my computer or ssd, it scrolls/jumps too fast and gives me headaches. My WD and Toshiba Disk drives are both normal scrolling speed, and fairly smooth with a little stutter. After three days of frustration I finally found this little app to control the scroll. I rarely use a mouse, just keyboards, one is wired and one is not. My computer must be weird, because as soon as the ssd goes in the scrolling becomes painful to look at. Plus I still get a some jitter just as I press the arrow key, then it smooths out, I have no idea what that could be.

Answer:Have you tried "smooth key scrolling" yet?

Interesting Web extension, although I find it funny you think the SSD had anything to do with chrome and its scroll speed.

Its normal for some games to have a bit of tearing and thats what vsync is for which is to fix that. I thought if you have vsync on to increase performance your meant to put triple buffering on to, in nvidia control panel.

Hi everyone, hopefully you guys can help.

I just installed my new GTX 980 TI and am having an issue with a lot of screen tearing, even with vsync turned on. I've looked at multiple reviews and troubleshooting guides and nothing has fixed this issue. Whats more, no one else seems to be experiencing the same issue. I have uploaded the specs of my rig for your reference.

When running benchmark programs, I'm getting less than 20 FPS with and without vsync enabled. Drivers are up to date as well, so I don't know what else to try at this point. My monitor is a Monoprice 27 inch that runs at 2560x1440 resolution @60hz.

My old GTX 780 worked fine, so I was surprised I had an issue.

Also, I get an error in Geforce Experience like the one in the screenshot, also attached.

Please help! Thanks in advance!

So I have recently upgraded a junky 485w PSU to an Antec 550w and I have been noticing some slight screen tearing/flickering whether in games or just siting on the desktop. I have tried reinstalling chrome, flash, shockwave and updated to the latest drivers released today.

The issue happens in chrome and ie(probably firefox to if I dled it).

I have a picture of it.

Vsync was set to use as program says and I tried setting it on al the time but it still did it.

I tried changing ports on video card but still there.

I installed BF2 and its newest patch a few days ago and noticed that I'm having some severe screen tearing problems. I think it's because the vertical frames aren't synched. I'm not sure as I'm new to the game. I installed the latest video drivers for my card today and I've noticed no change. It seems to be happening no matter what the resolution. I prefer to run it at 1280x1024 at 60hz. I couldn't find anything in the settings that would alter the problem either. I have everything turned on at high detail. So im not sure on the etiquette on this but i have three issues.

my computer is brand new with good ventilation and clean environment. And i get near perfect scores in the system operations index check ( if that really means anything).

1) After start up when no programs are running i get a mouse lag for about 5 minutes. the mouse will move fine then it pauses every 3ish seconds.

2) I am getting some very bad screen tearing while playing video games. it recently started getting worse. i am no where near my RAM capacity and my graphics card can easily handle it. i can even see minor tearing on my home page with my 1280x920 HD background.

3) This is what might be causing issues but when i go into the error notification it has been giving warnings and errors on start up. the event ids that keep repeating with warnings and error are 100,101, and 200.

the game it happens the most is civ 5. also happens with games that use a lot darker lighting or thats when i notice it the most like MOH:Warfighter.

I have installed the proper driver that was used on the original OEM Install and am still getting some chattering when I scroll on web pages. I also have the ATI Catalyst installed but don't understand if it will be of any help. I've wasted to much time with all this just to get some simple function, what is wrong? I even had a newer driver to start with but they were both the same. Any info needed please just ask.

I also don't think I need the Catalyst, can someone advise about this if possible?

One thing I am unsure of is the Uninstall part. I tried the "Update Driver" route but that would not work. I then Uninstalled the driver, and reinstalled the new driver all at once without reboot.

Answer:Screen Tearing with AMD/ATI Graphics

Catalyst is a control panel type program. You don't necessarily need it, and it can be safely uninstalled.

Rebooting after you've uninstalled your graphics drivers is important because it completes the uninstall. Don't worry, when you reboot, your laptop will use the standard VGA adapter drivers to give you a screen. You don't need to be in Safe Mode to reinstall your drivers. The regular Windows boot will be fine. You just won't have the fancier graphics available with the standard VGA adapter, but it is fine to install your new graphics drivers with.

Incidentally, you should only use graphics drivers from your laptop's manufacturer, not from anywhere else. The Toshiba drivers may have been optimized for the laptop. Using other drivers may be depriving you of features, or they may not work as well.

Lately my computer has been experience screen tearing when outside of games. Usually I experience this when I'm scrolling up and down on websites such as reddit and this only goes on for less than 10 minutes at a time after which it will just not occur anymore. Not sure what to think of this as when I play games, such as League of Legends or Black Desert Online, my performance will still be great.

My two leading suspicions would be either by video card (980TI), or my monitor (BenQ GW2255) is dying. It could possibly be Google Chrome being buggy, but I'm not too sure about this since I also experience the screen within Microsoft Edge.

Answer:Screen Tearing Outside of Games

New revelation - Screen tearing only occurs without a game / program (?) running in the background.

Also, I've used DDU to completely uninstall my Nvidia drivers and have installed the newest drivers available, but I am still experiencing the screen tearing only within browsers. Turning on Hardware Acceleration in Chrome does stop the screen tearing, but it also causes a ton of video errors when I watch live streams on, so that's not really a viable solution to my problem.

Hello everyone,

I am writing here because I honestly am lost and don't understand anymore what is going on. I have a big problem with my gaming experience while playing WoW. Everything started after I updated my Windows 10 to the Anniversary Update. When I am playing WoW I get huge screen tearing/glitches which makes the game unplayable. I first thought its a hardware problem so I tried other games (Dark Souls 3, The Witcher 3, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm); they all work flawlessly. I tried different things to figure out what's going on, I'll sum them up :

- if I change the Graphics API from DirectX 11 to DirectX 9 the glitching/tearing is gone but it feels laggy/stuttery
- if I play the game in Windowed game (Windowed Fullscreen doesn't work), everything works fine (doesn't matter if its on DirectX 9 or 11)
- this is interesting, if I connect my laptop to my Smart TV through HDMI, the glitching/tearing still happens on my laptop screen BUT on the TV everything looks nice and fine.
- I reinstalled WoW and Windows 10 (used the Reset option after I updated to AU so it reinstalled with the AU) and didn't help at all
- I recorded a few seconds of gameplay and to my surprise, when I played the video, no glitching/tearing was showing in the video, even though I could clearly see those in-game when I was recording
The HDMI test blew my mind because I have no idea what is going on anymore, I can't possibly understand what the problem can be... Read more

Hey guys.

I have a BenQ G2220HDA 1920x1080 display right now and I'm going to buy a computer that will run Win 7 on a maximum resolution, for sure. The problem is that I want to record screencasts, very smoothly, with no lags, like it happens on original mac machines (not hackintosh ones). So, I need an advice in configuration of a PC, what's more important in recording a screen with such a big resolution? CPU, RAM, video? Thank you!

Maybe you can suggest good PC specs?

Answer:Smooth screen recording

Get the fastest CPU(dual core minimum), the most RAM(need a 64 bit system if you want more than 4GB), and the fastest video card(512MB minimum) that your budget will allow, especially if you plan to use 32 bit color. You'll also need a dedicated sound card if you want audio.

Hi ,

I face a problem and i have no idea where to start looking for a solution. I had posted some days ago a problem with my pc, about shuting down and my card ( 1650X pro) underperforming and finally the solutions was to upgrade my psu ( from 400 to 650) and change the cpu Cooler. From then on everything runs smoothly BUT i have a very curious problem.

When i play WOW ( at a resolution 1280x1024 at 60 Mhz ) my display 21''' Viewsonic makes a flick and for a 1/10 of a sec the screen changes to colored rectangles ( like when you have a very very low resolution and 16 colors and then returns again in the above mentioned resolution. This may happen for 10 times in a row and then it stops. After 30 mins it may happen again.

My pc is A Pentium 4 ( prescott) 3 Mhz on an asus motherboard with 1024 Mb RAM.

What do you think ? is a card problem, a monitor problem ? a pc problem ? ( although i am playing wow 2,50 years now and with older cards and had no such problems ) or what ?

I even started to think is a cable problem ( the one connecting the monitor with my Card )

I recently upgraded to a GTX 570 and have suddenly started having a lot of screen tearing. Well, I don't know if it's technically screen tearing, but the screen has lighter, horizontal lines going across it when playing more demanding games such as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Metro 2033, and Fallout: NV. It even happens occasionally in older games, like the original Deus Ex. I tried recording in Fraps and even with my phone, but you can't see the lines with either of those. Anyways, I've turned on VSync, tried playing them in low quality, updated drivers, and messed with the overclock settings, but none of that helped. Please help.

My very brand new T510 suffers from some serious and annoying screen tearing. When watching videos, scrolling down web pages and texts and playing games, the screen tears and becomes distorted. It looks like all fonts become italic for a few some seconds and it then goes away. I have the very latest display and other drivers from the Lenovo web page. Screen resolution is at max and refresh rate is 60 Hz. How the heck can I fix this? My laptop is T510 - 4349-4JG.

this has been immensely frustrating. Throughout the OS, there is screen tearing. It is almost unnoticeable but when I stream video online it is just ridiculous. It is like a PS3 game. I have done everything. I noticed that some ppl used the ION drivers, tried it but no luck. Updated Silverlight and Flash with no luck. It has been like this from day one and it is driving me crazy. It doesn't happen while gaming, at all so it is really confusing. In the NVidia Control Panel I have tried each variation of VSync with no success.

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.8GHz
8192MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1488 MB driver version

I would really appreciate any help.

Thank you

hey all... i have 6 displays hooked up to my 2 gtx 770 4gb cards... yeah i know. 6.... anyway i know that with nvidia screen tear is common on multi displays... they arent even serious but im very perceptive of it and i want to know if you all notice the slightest bit with your multi gpu/displays. just so i can stop being anxious. (dragging windows across desktop) it only does this with certain programs such as firefox and nvidia experience and whatnot. things like office and photoshop are nice and smooth. ANYWAY! let me know guys. and once again thanks for the input! (all monitors are equally 60 hz) there is 1 smaller monitor on the wall i use for diagnostic programs but it still behaves the same with that disconnected. and this isnt like OMG screentearing this is just miniscule small stuff so im just curious if its seen by others on their systems too.

Hi, I have a problem with my Latitude E6520 apparently there is a horizontal line when I play games and watch some videos in HD. My video card is a Nvidia NVS 4200M and I have the latest drivers from Nvidia's driver installation page. Please message me a solution to this problem.

Can you post a photo of the issue?
Is the line visible on an external display?
If you hold down the "D" key whilst powering the system on, is the line visible when the screen cycles through different colors?

I just got a "certified new" laptop after dealing with a dud from Acer, I've had it for about 3 weeks now. It's an Acer Aspire with a GeForce GTX 850m. The past week or so, I started to notice something wasn't right, the computer overall seemed a bit laggy. I had an issue with the right click taking a second to load instead of working instantly like it should, this was fixed by using Shellexview, disabling TheDesktopContextMenu Class and some Nvidia context menu things fixed the right click mouse lag problem. A few of my games started crashing when opening them, but changing compatibility modes seemed to solve it.

Now, I saw what I believe to be screen tearing on some of my video games. In the game Spore when I move around/pan the screen I got this "rippling" of horizontal lines that move up/down the screen. It's strange because the game was running perfectly smoothly a couple weeks ago. I was also getting performance issues in a few games which my computer should have no problem running (including Doom, yes the original doom) that seemed to be fixed by adjusting vsync settings.

Now I think it's just one game, Spore, that has problems. I reinstalled it a few times, reinstalled graphics drivers, not sure what exactly it was that helped but now the screen tearing is gone-however, now there is intermittent choppiness. According to Fraps there is not any drop in FPS, it's just a strange type of choppiness . I have meddled with all sorts of graphics settings ... Read more

Any idea how to fix this? my specs are Amd phenom x4 965, 4gb, windows 7 64bit, ati 5850.

Answer:Screen tearing> Ripple effect??

You should turn on VSync (or video sync) in the video settings, if there is such an option.
