Spell check doesn't check correctly

Question: Spell check doesn't check correctly

If it ain't one thing, it is another with this computer.
My spell check is having a nervous breakdown. It checks and offers alternatives for almost every word. This check can include words such as A or An, It, etc. At times I get spellings for words nowhere similar
In a paragraph similar in length to the preceding one, I might have suggetions for practically every word.
Plus, the auto check feature is not working
Anyone help? Appreciate any

Preferred Solution: Spell check doesn't check correctly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Spell check doesn't check correctly

You need to tell us what OS you are using and where this is happening - in a browser, in a word processor etc.

hi. I can't get the word 2007 spellchecker to work in an important document I am editing. If i open a new document it works fine but in the document I am editing at the moment it will not recognise misspelt words and does not underline them as I type. I've tried to copy and paste the text into a new document but it takes the problem with it. The peculiar thing is that there is a tick next to 'do not chech spelling' in the language dialogue but if I clear it, it just returns and goes back to not checking again. Any suggestions?

Chances are you had some thrid-party utility installed on XP that provided this functionality, as spell-check is not a standard part of Internet Explorer or even Firefox.

You'll have to determine which add-on did this, and then find and install a Vista compatible version.

Question: abc spell check

Years ago I installed (check mark) abc spellcheck from this site. I had it in my favorites bar and used it a lot. Somehow I must have accidently deleted it. I cannot find it to reinstall. Mostly everything I have tried installs a whole toolbar, which I do not want. Can anyone help me find the one I had?
Thanks. :confused

Answer:abc spell check

There is no program titled "abc spellcheck". There is something called abcspell. Perhaps you are confusing the program name with the picture of the icon?
I'm confused about the item you are looking for.
Here is a paid $30 program whose icon looks similar to what you mention but it only works for Outlook Express.
http://abcspell-for-outlook-express.en.softonic.com/
It also only works for non-supported versions of Windows so it is not worth the money.

The fact that you mention it was in your favorites bar, leads me to believe that you are talking about a website because favorites are links to online sites.
I found two online sites that will check spelling.
http://www.jspell.com/public-spell-checker.html
http://www.spellcheck.net/

Then you can install a program called Tiny Spell which adds spell checking ability to lots of programs.
Info here: http://www.technospot.net/blogs/add-spell-checker-to-wordpad-notepad/
and clean download from MajorGeeks

If the spell checker automatically corrects error, which can mess up your header structure, you can disable it in the option. Then it won't automatically make any changes but will just notify you with a red line for spell check and green line

Question: Spell Check on OE

I am finding that Spell-Check on my emails via OE is now doing the job twice! Once, when I've completed the email (my usual practice), and then, having corrected any miss-spells, after I've clicked "send", but before it is sent, OE again goes through the Spell-check", highlighting the same already corrected items! Hi -I just submitted a long question but could not find "spell check".  What happened to "spell check?  I need it.   Bob

Answer:Where is spell check?

If you did spell something wrong, then a red line appears underneath to notify you of a word that is wrong. No red line, no spelling mistakes. If you do get a red line, right click for a list of alternatives.Though you must understand that a correct, out-of context spelling will not be flaggedi.e.  To rip presents you need paper and sticky type (rip should be wrap and type should be tape, but because they are the correct spelling, they are not flagged)

There's a new spell checking tool for IE9 on the block and it looks like it could be promising:

http://www.speckie.com/home/

It uses the same sort of engine that Chrome uses, so incorrectly spelt words show a red line underneath.

The other free option is IESpell:

http://www.iespell.com/

You need to right click on a text box and then select "Check Spelling" for this to work, so it's not as intuitive - but it's stable and works well.

Hope that's handy for any new IE9 users

Question: spell check

Hope someone can help. I have a friend that is writing a simple letter in word. Everytime he tries to use spell check he gets a message that there isn't enough memory to use spell check. He has a 733 Mhz, I believe at least 128 sdram, about 98% of his harddrive is free, he is running at 83% performance. He doesn't download, he hasn't got graphics or other type of pictures loading up the harddrive. When he is online (aol.) he uses spell check in his e-mails, and it functions fine. Can anyone assist me on how to get spell check to work. Also, I have a new e-mail address to respond to. I haven't figured out how to edit my profile. The current e-mail address is: [email protected]
Thank you,
Judy Webb

Answer:spell check

Judy, you should immediately edit your question and put something like:

[email protected]@comcast.net

That way, if someone wants to email you, they'll figure out your real email, but the softwares that search the web for email strings so they can spam you won't recognize it.

Anyway:

Clean the pc:

www.theofficeexperts.com/cleanyourpc.htm

and then do Word troubleshooting:

www.theofficeexperts.com/word.htm

That should take care of it.

And of course, AOL is one application and Word is another. They have nothing to do with one another.

Question: OE Spell Check

I had to have Outlook Express reinstalled after having battled a nasty virus and now, whenever spell check scans an email, it thinks the words are misspelled because the language is set to French. I have gone in under the Tools menu and tried to change it but there is NO option for English and the international settings don't have USA (or even British Columbia) as a choice? Short of disabling spell check altogether, anyone have advice for me?

Answer:OE Spell Check

Do you have Microsoft Office 2007 installed? The issue you describe crops up in OE after installing Office 2007.Since OE does not have a spell checker, it relies on spell check installed by MS Office Programs. If you had a previous version of Office and upgraded, the new 2007 files are incompatible withOE. Microsoft is aware of the issue but has no plans to correct it. If you want to use spell check with OE, you will have to 1) uninstall Office 2007 and go back to a previous version OR2) install a third-party spell check for use with OE. This is the better option, especially if you purchased Office 2007. You don't want to uninstall it and end up wasting your money after paying for it. Does anyone know how to set up automatic spell check on my computer? I had managed to set it up before without installing any additional software and it seems to have disappeared. I know firefox has a built in checker however I had my computer set up to check aim, notepad, email, etc as well. Basically the spell checker checked everything I typed in my computer. Does anyone know how to get this back? I have no idea how I did it originally and I have no idea how I turned that function off. My computer: Dell Inspiron 51505 laptopIntel Core Duo Windows XPDSL connectionI can provide any other information if it means I can get this spell check thing fixed. It is really helpful in my line of work. Thanks!

Answer:Spell check help?

Well, if you had spell check in Notepad, then you must have installed some third-party spell check software.  Spell check in Outlook Express is normally obtained as a result of having MS Office installed or the MS Works Suite, which includes Word; in other words, spell check in Outlook Express comes from Word being installed.  Do you have MS Office or Works Suite installed?  Again, to get spell check in AIM, Notepad, and basically any application in which you type text, you must have installed some third-party spell check software.  I don't know how someone can not know what they had installed to give them this functionality.  Anyway, if you don't have a CD or downloaded file from which to reinstall that third-party spell check software, you'll have to acquire it.  I see no other conclusion to be drawn here.

I have ms vista home premium and when I try to use spell check in ms works processor it says that there has been an error and that files are missing or corrurpted. I am instructed to reinstall works. What do I do next?

Answer:spell check

Go to control panel, then programs & features. From here, find MS Works, and click it.
It should give you an option to repair or change it. Try doing that, it should repair all of the corrupted files.
If it does not give an option to repair, im afraid you will have to uninstall it, and do a fresh install (providing you have the MS Works installation cd

Hi all:

I have dowlded the Major Geeks administrators recommended web site for OEpress spell checker.
Dowld stated it was placed in C:\prog files\common files\msoft\proof , actually file was placed in My doc's & settings\john\desk top. Not being a wizard in at a loss as how I can place into the proper folder?

Do I dra and drop to the proper folder.

The file did appear on D top, but DD click only goes through the install step again.

Anything you can tell me will be greatly appreciated.

Hope I spelled everything ok.

Answer:Need spell check for OE6

It is always advisable to download software to your desktop and then close the link before opening and installing it.
The install wizard should have put it in the C:\ programs file.
But if not, drag and drop would be fine.

Question: OE spell check

Whenever I use the spell check on Outlook Express, it opens up to a box trying to send me to Microsoft "Picture It".  Could it have something to do with me updating to Microsoft Office 2007?  How can I redirect the spell check to the proper function?  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Answer:OE spell check

I haven't used OE for a couple of years, and it may have been updated, but it didn't used to have spell check built into it.  It used the spell check in Word.  If you didn't have Word spell check in OE didn't work.Instead of picture it try to redirect it to Word.

Hi, I'm running Office 2007 Home and Student Edition, on my new Vista PC. I am dyslexic, and so when I do essays in word documents I rely a lot on spell check. However, Word is not cheking my spelling automatically. The red wavy line I have become so used to doesn't appear, so to spell check I have to manually click it at the top. I'd much prefer to "correct-as-I-go" by right-clcking words highlighted via the wavy red line. Anyone know how to do this? I'm a bit of a novice.

Answer:Where is spell check?

Click the Office Button (the logo top left), Word Options > Proofing, tick 'Check spelling as you type'.

I was just doing a spell check on an email and I spelled a word wrong and mistakenly added the misspelling to the dictionary. Is there any way to go back in to Outlook to correct this?

Answer:Outlook Spell Check

In Outlook, go to Tools, select options and select the Spelling tab. The 2nd option is to edit the custom dictionary. You should be able to find the word and delete.

Click the word tools in Outlook, then click on options. Look for the spelling tab at the top, and click that. Check to see if you have a language selected at the bottom. Let us know if there are any problems, after we attack that.

Answer:OE6 Missing Spell Check??

Howdy

You need to have one of the MS Office products installed in order for the spell checker to work. i.e. Word, Excel, etc.
Did you just upgrade to OE6 or XP?

This link provided by Bryan helped me get mine working.
There is a second link at the bottom of that page to read also.

I have an odd conundrum when running Outlook Express. The spell check does not work.
Now I've been through all the forums, etc., about the Office upgrade and no support for the spellchecker. Downloaded the fix files all that stuff. Still doesn't work. Now I have the 32 bit and 64 bit program files, makes no difference.
Here's the conundrum. If I email a file from any MS Office programs, it tells me to close OE, I do this and it opens up the send function of OE and the spell check works at that point.
Even downloaded and installed the Spell Checker for OE 2.1
Thanks, Iain

Okay since this was brought up about spell checking for users i am gonna write this up. This is how you get the 3 major browsers to use and identify a spell check utility and make use of it.

All in all Mozilla Firefox is the easiest to do this with. From version 2.0 and on of Firefox there is a in line built in spell checker for Firefox that works great. Just get the appropriate language file needed and be off with it.

Opera is a bit more difficult. There are 2 ways i have found to do it. First is to install and use Aspell.

GNU Aspell

Just download and install that and then download the language file and install that and Opera after a restart will recognize Aspell being installed and use it accordingly. Just right click in any text field and the Spell Check option will be available.

The 2nd way is by going to the Opera Community site:

[UserJS] OSpell - A Better Opera Spell Checker - User JavaScript - Opera Community
[UserJS] Orangoo Spell Check - User JavaScript - Opera Community

Here you can search for the UserJS scripts which will include the spell checker in line and such. After you type just click the little box that it adds to the post box and it will do a spell check for you. If you need help getting the JS files to work let me know. I have already done this and can guide you myself.

IE is pretty much the same way as Opera. There are several add-ons that can be given to IE to spell check. But nothing like Firefox with its built in spe... Read more

Hi All,
I recently upgraded from XP to Win7 and in my old setup I was using IE8 and I had IE7Pro running on it and I had spell checking that worked just like it does in Firefox ie...when you misspell a word it underlined it and then you could Right Click the word and pick from some suggestions! Well since I loaded Win7 with IE8 and IE7pro I get a different looking solid red underline instead of the squiggly looking one I am used to, and now it just underlines the word and when right clicked it does not give any suggestions at all...you have to manually make the correction and guess at the correct spelling! Does the IE7 pro spell check not work right anymore, or did I have another spell checker add-on loaded that I forgot about? If so does anyone know what it was? I tried the Google Toolbar add-on spellchecker and you have to hit the button whenever you want to spell-check, it does not do it "On the fly" like I am used to.
Thanks In advance,
Mike

My Word only checks spelling for Dutch.
How can I add another language like German and English? Where can I get them?

I selected German an English from the language settings but its not on the disc and I get a few missing .dll errors.

Answer:Spell check in Word2002

Wow. It's not on your Windows disk?

Dunno, dude. Check the MS-Office website and see if they have anything on the language packages. I thought I read somewhere once that the installed language package was the only one that could be used. Don't know if that's true or not, though, as I only use English in my Windows.
