Help reinstalling Toshiba software in Toshiba satellite?

Question: Help reinstalling Toshiba software in Toshiba satellite?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I think it became infected with ad ware. I removed the ad ware with anti virus software, but now my laptop runs very slow. I'm trying to use my Toshiba recovery disk to erase everything and reboot the whole computer. when I put in the recovery disk in, it starts the process but then it says NTLDR is missing and wont complete the process. Is there anyone out there who knows what this means and could help me with this.

It's a A-100/A 105 model

I've got a Toshiba Satellite 1800-814, with pre-installed Windows XP. I've had a few unexplained problems, some of which I feel have come up after installing SP1 (and uninstalling). Anyway, I've decided to reinstall XP. How do I get the laptop to boot up from CD so I can reformat the hard drive or is there another way? I'll be around on and off till 2am, if anybody's got the answer. Ta.

Answer:Reinstalling XP on Toshiba Satellite laptop

You need to set your Bios to First boot sequence CD Rom Second Floppy Third Hard drive..Then re boot the PC with the XP CD in the rom then follow the on screen instruction. Make sure you make the file system NTFS..

Answer:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

when using the above card, and TRENDnet TEW-311BRP WireLess Broadband Router, I cannot get a stable connection.

It always connect and disconnect me.

I use this machine and card all over the world: airports, hotels, offices and it works great.

I asked the dealer to replace the 311. Same problem.

However, if I stick TRENDnet PCMCIA card and disable the Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, I connect w/o disconnections.

any idea?

Greetings, I am trying to update my Toshiba Satellite P50-C-11M through the Service Station, however an error occurs. Please note the laptop is roughly a week old only.

As I press install on the updates I get the following message: "The software update download operation failed. Reason: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097}.

I tried the following solutions and nothing worked:
1. Updated the BIOS Independently from the Toshiba Europe Website.
2. Uninstalled the Service Station and reinstalled it again.

Thank you, and I hope this helps others too.

Answer:Satellite A30 Should I contact Toshiba Europe or Toshiba Worldwide?

What a strange question?.
If you have some problems with you notebook you have to contact the authorized service provider in your country.
The technicians should help you.
But listen; if your notebook is out of warranty (and I think it is) you will have to pay for the reparation!!

But what?s a problem with you unit???

Answer:Satellite Pro 4200: Is Toshiba Software for HDD check available?

Hi Ben,

I'm not aware of any specific software from Toshiba, but you can always use the Microsoft CHKDSK utility to scan/repair your hard drive sectors. You can access this by right-clicking on the hard drive icon in My Computer -> Properties -> tools.

I buy this model and operating system was on german (WIN XP), I reinstalled it on english language, but I cannot find those toshiba options which I had previous, like toshiba controls, power saving keys don't work either: browser, CD/DVD commands on right side. I got 2 discs with computer, assist and recover or something like that. Maybe this is something easy or a stupid problem, but I am not such an expert, so please help :)

Answer:Satellite A110-203: reinstalled Windows, then Toshiba software was gone

on the recovery disc is an image with the factory installations you had in the beginning (German Windows).

If you install the English Windows from a normal Microsoft CD, you have additionally to install all drivers and software from Toshiba. This can be found on your Tools CD or you can download it here:

The software for my printer as well as the game (fate) I am trying to play are among the programs that will not complete the installation process. Any thoughts? I sure appreciate ya. Thanks.

I have problem using Toshiba Software Installer for Win 7 on Satellite L750-1MT (PSK30E-02T002B3) with no OS preinstalled.
I do the following:

1. Install Windows 7 x64, SP1.
2. Install LAN driver (device was not recognized by Windows 6) (downloaded from [ MP_RESULTS_PAGE&partNumber=PSK30E-02T002B3&serialNumber=&USER_ACTION=Serial%20number])
3. Install all Windows Updates from Microsoft
4. Run Toshiba Software Installer for Win 7 - it installs a couple of drivers and then asks to reboot.

Here is the log file for the first try (win7update.log):

Update started 12\28\2011 at 21:11
Installed TVALZ_O.INF
Installed IO & Memory Access Driver

I'm a bit confused with the 'support software' that came with my new laptop. It doesn't seem to be clear what the various programs are for.

As an example, I opened up TEMPRO and it specified a bios update which I duly installed.
Then I looked at SERVICE STATION which also seems to be for updates.
Is there some duplication in all this?

Can someone recommend which of these programs needs to be active?
Is there a brief explanation on what they do and whether there is any 'overhead' in running them?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Answer:Question about Toshiba support software for Satellite C850

I can imagine that you are a bit confused about that.
Both of them are nice applications especially Tempro. More about Tempro and Tempro service you can read on

To be honest I don?t use any of them and both are removed from my system. Generally speaking when you get new notebook you will have perfect configured OS and everything will work stabile so some not so important updates will not be needed at all. Both applications run in the background and just slow down the system.

If you have some time check other postings about these applications. You will find a lot of them here on this forum.

My Toshiba T110 netbook came with Windows 7 home, 64bit preinstalled.
I have some critical applications which will only run under the 32bit version so I have to downgrade.

I have ordered a 500Gb hard disc to install the 32 bit version (keeping the original disc for returning to 64bit if required in the future, since no installation discs were supplied, just a recovery partition). My expected difficulty will be adding the Toshiba specific programs for activating eco mode, switching WiFi and bluetooth via function keys etc. and sleep & charge etc.

Are the installation files for these programs available somewhere? and if so in 32bit versions?

Battery Management Software Like Sony VAIO'sI need software that lets you cap your battery charge at 50%, 80%, 100% (default), or custome.Capping it at 50% increases battery lifetime. Supposedly, charging it all the way up to 100% all the time wears the battery down. (The utility that came with my Sony VAIO made such claims).I'd love to have something like that installed on my Toshiba Satellite U840. Are you familiar with software that has those features? By Toshiba or thrid-party - both are fine.Thank you,Ivan

im a new SATELLITE C870-1JV user
Or saw a review on a US website saying that all the preinstalled Toshiba software slows down the OS .
The site recommended a clean windows install to remove it all..

Anyone done this or recommend it?

Anyone like the installed software and recommend keeping it?

Answer:Re: Satellite C870 - Questions regarding preinstalled Toshiba software

> Anyone done this or recommend it?
Do you still want to use the advanced notebook features like function buttons?
If yes, don?t remove the Toshiba function key software which controls the keys.

Do you still want to be notified about driver updates via Toshiba Tempro or Toshiba Service Station?
Then don?t remove such software

But as far as I know there is also another, additional software installed on the notebook.
For example: TOSHIBA Places, TOSHIBA Eco Utility, TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor, etc?
All these tools provide some additional features, it?s your decision if you want to use it or not.

Hi there,

I usually watch DVDs with Toshiba's software which was bundelled with my P200 which I purchased last year.
However, the picture is no longer displayed.

Sound is okay, along with the control system, but the actual picture is black.
I thought that the player might be at fault but DVDs work fine Windows Media Player.

All are the correct region and are DVDs which I've played before with no problem.

I've tried rebooting etc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try to install newer DVD player software or to update the old one?

Have ordered a Seagate Momentus 7200.02 200GB SATA 300 7200RPM 16MB 2.5" for my Satellite Pro A200GE-26P. The slow drive toshiba ships with this laptop is just not fast enough so it's being replaced.

My question is this: Can I use the DVD recovery disc that came with my laptop to reinstall Vista and all the Toshiba drivers onto this new drive?

If not - how do I do it?

If I can do it - could you give me a check list of things to do?
Are there some drivers that I need to get that wont be on the recovery disc?

I am asking this because, I know how to do this on a PC with the Original OS Disc's but I was horrified when my laptop was delivered and no original OS disc's - I think this is very poor so any help would be gratefully accepted.

Thank you in advance,

Answer:How to port Vista/Toshiba software on Satellite Pro A200 after HDD upgrade

Hi there,

you must not worry about that whole procedure, just install the HDD, put the recovery CD in your CD/DVD drive, press F12 and boot with your CD drive or just press "C" (which automatically boots the inserted CD).

The recovery is not bounded to a specific HDD, it sets automatically the partition size and installs EVERTHING on your HDD just like a pre-installed OS shipped directly from the factory. You don?t need some additional drivers or software, the only thing you must do is to copy your personal data to the system drive and customize your windows.

Thats the intention of a recovery media: put it in and it makes everything by itself.

Thats all. :)

Hello everyone,

I have a Toshiba P500-01G ( currently running the bundled Windows 7 Home Premium in 64-bit. I bought an upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate but can't use it, it just tells me to use Windows Anytime Upgrade.

I can however use it for a clean installation, and I intend to, but I'm not sure what to do about the Toshiba software (
I read on another thread that the software needs to be installed in a certain order and frankly I have no idea! I don't want to break something! I'm not asking for an exact listing for all of them (unless you have the time) but just a general guide as to what types I should install in order.

Also, I assume my recovery partition will be erased in the process and that I cannot get it back. Is this true?

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it,

Answer:Satellite P500-01G - Installing Toshiba software after clean install

Hello Abraham

I?m owner of Satellite P500 too and it is really great machine, isn?t it? I love it. My best Toshiba ever.
On my machine is preinstalled original Toshiba recovery image and it works without any problems so I don?t want to change anything.

Back to your question. I presume you have some reasons why do you want to use Ultimate version so you should try to make clean OS installation. Before you do anything create recovery DVD. Make two copies.
After doing this you can do with your notebook whatever you wont because if you want to have ?factory settings? again you can use created recovery disc and install original recovery image.
After own OS installation saved recovery image will be useless and you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation so please create recovery DVDs.

Win7 installation? I have European model and I will send you exact install order list. Maybe there are small differences comparing it to AU model but the principle is the same.

Answer:Satellite L450D - iTunes doesn't recognise Toshiba disc burner software

I?m not an iTunes user but you can try another disc burning software that is freeware. It?s called ?CD Burner XP? and works on the most Windows versions.

In my opinion it has the same functions like Nero, you can burn audio, video and data disks and also copy disks but it?s faster as Nero.

It?s worth a try! ;)

I own Toshiba Satellite A110-110. After using this laptop for a two years with pre-installed system, CPU and RAM I have decided to upgrade it. So, I change Celeron M410 for a Core Duo T2450, 60 GB HDD for a 250 GB HDD and 512 MB RAM for a 2 GB RAM and Windows XP HE for a Vista Business.

Installation of all parts and software went fine. Then, I downloaded and installed drivers for Vista. So what is wrong you might ask?

An ATI Xpress 200M, which could get from RAM up to 256 MB for graphic on Windows XP, now, with Vista, this graphic card in control panel displays only 128 MB obtained (shared) memory. What is more, there is no option to change settings and have that old 256 MB. Maybe someone knows the solution?

As the second main problem after upgrading my personal system is total lost of all Toshiba utilities like Connectivity Doctor, Wireless LAN search (transparent oval radar hide on the right side of screen with other options), SRS WOW Sound panel and other which were in based configuration.

Vista doesn't display anything though I put to the system some of it. If anyone can help to solve this problem and has knowledge where I can get that kind of software please give me a tip, and write what kind of idea you are able to share.
Thank you for any help!!!

Answer:Satellite A110 Upgrade - Xpress 200M problem, lost Toshiba software

The thing with your graphic card is, that memory sharing is different in Vista. It shows the current amount of video ram in use and you can not set this amount manually as you could do under XP with some registry tricks.
You will have to deal with it.

For Toshiba tools and utilities check this download page: (Support & Downloads)

You can find Config free, Hardware setup tool, other utilities and the sound card driver which should contain the sound panel.

I bought a used laptop from a charity shop for my father in law. It is running with XP Home Edition and has service pack3 installed but is extremely slow. Unfortunately there was no software or mains adaptor with it, but there is a Windows sticker on the underside with the product key. I own a legitimate copy of XP from an old desktop PC that I used to own which is older than the version on the laptop. There was a lot of software and personal files from the previous owner stored on the laptop. I have deleted the personal files and uninstalled software that would be of no use to my father in law. I've downloaded AVG and scanned for Spyware and viruses. I've defraged the hard drive. Still very slow. I would like to wipe the hard drive and start from scratch and would appreciate advice on the best course of action.
Thanks in advance

Answer:Reinstalling XP on a Toshiba Equium A110-232

If the installation disc is an OEM, Home version, it should work with the key on the sticker on the laptop.

Prior to installing, enter BIOS ( Setup ) and set the first boot device as CD/ROM. Put your XP Disc in the drive and disconnect all external peripherals except the monitor, keyboard and mouse, and be sure those are not USB, or wireless. Any internal USB card should also be removed.

Once you set your BIOS to boot first from cd . . when it restarts you will see a black screen with a prompt "Press any key to boot from CD" . . do that and you will be able to delete any or all partitions and recreate one or more, then proceed to formating and installing XP.

That message can pass quickly, so have a finger on the keyboard when you boot. This will delete all data on the drive so be sure you have your important data backed up. The prompt will appear after every reboot, but do not press any key on subsequent reboots. The setup process will continue with no action required from you.

If you do not get that message, and if you have another optical drive, try the XP CD in the other drive.

cleaned dust from an overheating Satellite 1905-S301 and
removedthe heatsink to do it. Now, I find the CPU or part of it (I'm no whiz)is attached very well (glued or something) to the CPU - it has an array of pins on it.
Will the heatsink/cpu just slide back down into the pin receivers if positioned correctly OR does the locking screw on the bottom socket need to be opened first - and then locked again. I hate to experiment with a cpu and all those bendable pins.

Answer:help reinstalling heatsink/cpu-toshiba notebook

I'm sad to say, you MUST take the processor off the HS, clean off all the thermal compound and replace it, and then mount them separately.

One trick I used on my P4 was to heat the HS/CPU combination with a hair dryer until it was pretty hot to the touch. The heat will soften the thermal compound. I could then pry the processor off the HS with a plastic tuning blade, DON'T use anything metallic, because you'll probably damage or destroy the processor.

I have a toshiba m200 notebook and have the recovery dvd and would like to reformat and reinstall windows XP, but I can't get it to boot from the external drive. This computer does not come with an internal drive but has a PCMCIA slot and an SD slot. There is also a toshiba program called the SD Memory Boot Utlity.

I have set it to boot from the DVD drive first, both in the bios and in the toshiba control panel settings, but it just skips it because I am told it is not the exact external DVD drive that Toshiba makes for this model.

Once booted my external DVD burner drive works perfectly but it just won't boot from the drive.

Is it possible to use a PCMCIA memory card reader with a compact flash card to reformat and reinstall?

Is it possible to start the boot from the SD card to get to an DOS prompt, and then access and start the reinstall from the DVD drive then.

I found the following page and tried copying the files like the instructions said, but it just went to my hard drive to boot each time

Does anyone have any suggestions or should I just toss the laptop as I'm so frustrated with it.

Lately I've had a number of problems, weird glitches, and slowdowns on my computer, so I decided to just wipe the whole thing and start over.

I have a Tosbhia Satellite; it came with two Vista Recovery CDs. I booted from disc 1 and used the recovery wizard to wipe the hard drive and reinstall Vista. However, when it was loading the installation files it flashed an error message; something about a preinstall file not being read, I/O error...

I called Toshiba tech support and they told me the discs were corrupted and they would send me another pair. I don't know how this is possible and my fear is I'll wait a week, get the discs, they won't work either, and I'll be SOL if I try to call Toshiba again.

Can anyone throw some help my way?

Of course the Windows Server 2008 OS is based on Vista but it?s not the same and I think this is the problem?

I don't understand how the registry patch update works, i downloaded and extracted the update as asked into a temporary folder but there was no install setup and i'm pretty sure i didn't install anything unless the system installed it itself without asking me. I want to know how this registry patch works and how it is installed.

And the disc creator has wasted over 15 empty DVD with the same error code 380381-26-2A030C00. I don't know what to do about it, i've tried microsoft fix it software and deleted the upper and lower filters in the registry but still, i can't burn CD's.

Help me. Thanks.

Answer:Toshiba registry patch update and Toshiba disc creator issues

I?m a little bit confused?
What Disc Creator patch do you mean?
What notebook do you have exactly?

On the Toshiba European driver page I could find some patches like recovery patch.
But this is Registry Patch for System Restore.
After downloading the zip folder, you should unzip this package? then you will find one exe file? this file needs to be unzipped too! Right click on this file and choose unzip here.
Now you should find some additional files and one of the files should be an install.exe?

However, in your case I recommend testing other disk like DVD-R from different manufacturers like TDK?
I use DVD ?R and never had any problems using such disks?

I wonder if there are any Techheads out there looking for a challenge?

I have a new Toshiba LCD HDTV that I want to use as the primary and only monitor for my Toshiba Satellite laptop.

I want to eliminate the laptops screen altogether.

I would like to know if there exists a connector or some other way to connect my laptops ribbon cable output to a VGA output and then to the HDTV via a VGA cable; or if there is a better way to go?

The screen on this 4year old laptop got cracked so I have to spend at least $75.00 for parts alone and if I go that way I might as well buy another laptop, or use a desktop with a wireless keyboard which will cost more than $100.00 to set up.

Besides, this seems like a kinda cool fix so if anyone has any bright Ideas, please respond.

Notebook information: Toshiba Satellite L505-S5990, Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit

About a month ago I was on my notebook browsing clipart on when a window popped up in the lower right corner (taskbar). The only anti-virus I was using was Windows Defender and running IOBit360.

I will tell you what I remember. The window borders in the pop up were red, it presented itself as a Microsoft Windows product and it stated I was infected with a virus. There were 2 or 3 buttons to click and I clicked one of them which prompted me to buy the product, I did not do this. I closed the window, again and again, and downloaded several anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware free programs in addition to system optimization software. Several threats were found and removed (unfortunately I do not have the logs for these events) but the startup was getting slower and slower and I believe my settings were being hijacked. Over the last several weeks, I did a little amateur investigation to see what was running in the task manager. I came across a process that I was not familiar with and that I had not seen previously, taisregistpinger.exe. I performed about a half dozen factory restores which only seemed to make things worse until on 3/12/2011 after the last factory restore on the original factory hard drive, the desktop was now a blue screen with big bold red font that read: WARNING, your computer is now infected with malware/spyware (I can't remember). It had a coupl... Read more

You'll have noticed the nice T icon in your address bar for this forum.

To use this distinctive icon for any shortcut to a Toshiba application or your user guide just follow these steps:

1/ Create a directory somewhere to store the icon you are about to extract.

2/ Access this forum in your browser.

3/ Go to your +Temporary Internet Files+ location (different between XP & Vista)

4/ Look for the icon with name {color:#0000ff}favicon.ico{color} alongside the name []

5/ Copy this file into your icons location created at step #1 and rename the file (e.g. {color:#0000ff}Toshiba-T.ico{color})

6/ On any shortcut to which you want this icon applied, simply right click on +properties+, click +change icon+ and point to your newly saved {color:#0000ff}Toshiba-T.ico{color}.

That's all.

My friend's in the market for a new computer; for various reasons, it looks like Toshiba will be the brand of choice.
(foremost among them being local-area service/support in Indonesia, where she'll be for 3+ years).
That said, the only Toshibas that we've been able to get some hands-on 'look and feel' sessions with were
the Satellites (i.e. the entry-level machines); they were... OK... the build quality felt... well, retail-ish =p
Anyone have experience with the next tier up, the Satellite Pro models?
Presumably the build quality is at least on par with the Satellites; any better? Appreciablly better, that is?
If simply on par, she may as well get a Satellite and take her chances...
Thanks in advance.

When I play anything from the internet or put a DVD or CD in there is no sound. The DVD plays and shows the movie, but no sound.

I have gone completely thru and made sure every sound control is turned on to maximum.

I have ran the trouble shooters.

I have gone onto Microsoft and ran all the fix its, tried querying the problem on the internet and tried everything I can find to try.

What am I doing wrong?

We have a toshiba satellite L305-S5893. It was working fine and I used to the shut down option to restart the computer. After that it never restarted. It says toshiba innovation and then black screens. Eventually it says what operating system would you like to start and lists vista. After doing that it says a system32 file is corrupt or missing and cannot start windows. We do not have the windows starting disk and I cant get into safe mode. The only thing I can get into is the setup utility manager. Can I download this file somewhere or how else can I get to safe mode? I think its vista 32 but not positive.

After other options are exhausted, if you find any, you can try to go back to factory specs. You will lose all your programs, etc, but you can reload them.

Stick hoover nozzle up against the air exit and set on mid-power. It should shift the worst of the dust.I might get ticked off for suggesting this, but when you can't easily remove bits to get inside, it's about the best option. The expensive option is to take it to a laptop service engineer who can probably strip it down to get to the fans.

Question: Toshiba Satellite

MY friend has a Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 laptop, the hard drive has died, I have found one online for him, but we have no recovery disk from Toshiba to install the OS on the new hard drive, question is where can I find one? If he has to buy Windows, he might as well buy a new laptop. Also how difficult is a hard drive installation in a laptop. I have done this in a desktop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite

You might be able to order the Recovery discs from Toshiba for a small fee.

Most laptops now require the user to make their own discs when they purchase the system and the re is a recovery partition on the drive.

P.S. Windows is considerably cheaper then a new laptop. And you should have a Windows license number on the bottom of the laptop so the worse case scenrio is that you have to get a regular Windows CD, do an install and download all the drivers, but you'd lose some of the Toshiba pre-installed software.

I've been given a Toshiba Satellite M70 Laptop.. I've been given this laptop because the internal screen isn't working.. so wanting some opinions.

The screen lights up, but doesn't display a picture - instead just random vertical & horizontal lines. I think its probably going to be the LCD panel, I've reseated the cable at both ends but didn't make a difference.

Just wondering what other people think.. I just don't want to order a replacement panel if someone thinks it might be the mainboard for example.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M70

Well, the first thing I would do is plug an external monitor to it and see what comes up. Toshibas have a diagnosis function that you can run if you hit F8 at startup. Choose the test and let see if it finds any problems with the onboard screen.

Hi, I joined today and thank anyone and everyone in advance for any help he/she can give me. Here is my first problem - with my laptop screen. A vertical red line on the right hand side of the screen suddenly appeared a few days back while I was online and will not go away. I tried changing the screen saver already. It's still under guarantee but I have no faith in the shop where I bought it (they told me to bring it back as it means serious screen problems) but as I'have just had some bad experiences when I returned other electronic equipment I'd like to check if anyone else has ever had this happen and what was the solution. Again, thank you!

Answer:toshiba satellite m60

test with vga out?

I had the same computer with the same problem, when i contacted toshiba support they gave me a local repair site and i brought it in, they tested it and replaced the screen in 2 days. The guy at the repair facility said all they did was to hook up an external monitor to verify it was indeed the screen and not the system and when they knew the problem was the screen they proceeded from there. If you have a vga monitor you can plug in and test it, if it is the screen it's one of the easiest fixes, so unless the shop you're dealing with is totally inept, or totally corrupt, it should be no problem

I have a toshiba satellite 2545xcdt w/amd k6-2 333mhz, with 66fsb. was wondering what is the fastest cpu that i can replace it with?

Answer:toshiba satellite cpu

Well you need a laptop version of the CPU which is harder to find then a normal one. On top of that, K6-2 CPUs in general have become something of a rarity. & finally when you take into account the fact that laptop CPUs aren't meant to be swapped with newer ones, you'll notice you have a lot going against you.

If you insist on looking for one anyways, I guess you could pretty much take any K6-2 all the way to 500mhz & adjust it to a 66mhz FSB. The Socket CPUs before the Slot 1/A era did not have locked multipliers so you could play around with it & the FSB, provided the laptop's BIOS / Mainboard lets you do so.

Just bring the new chip down to the same speed as the old one & gradually raise the speed while keeping an eye on the temps. If your laptop was designed with a certain CPU speed in mind, it might not react very well with a faster, hotter chip.

I still think it might be a better idea to start saving for a newer laptop though.

Question: Toshiba Satellite

I have just replaced the screen on my Toshiba Satellite U50D-A laptop myself as they as it was not covered under warranty.

Now when I power it on it comes up with PXE messages which indicate it is trying to boot from the LAN instead of the HDD.

HDD is the first boot device in the BIOS

Possibly the HDD was wiped when it was in for repair and therefore it cannot find a boot partition on it to boot from.

My initial questions are:

1. How can I tell if the HDD has a bootable partition on it?
2 How can I reload Windows 8 onto the HDD if I do not have a CD/DVD drive on the laptop?

Mant thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite

make sure your HDD is detected on the BIOS if not try to press del or f2 to go into bios then select your HDD as primary HDD press f10 to save changes,,try if you can boot it.. if not then you will have to re install your operating system via bootable flash drive.

There is a button on the CD tray door. Just press it. You may need to restart the computer and then press the button when the computer starts so the computer isn't trying to read the disc. Or you can go to This PC and right click the CD/DVD drive and choose Eject. If all else fails there is a pin hole on the CD tray, push a straightened out paper clip into it to force open the tray.

hey guys! well, a few weeks ago my laptop stopped working (The one in the title) I obviously was depressed because I have a lot of things on my laptop. The problem is that I get to the boot screen, where it allows me to go into safe mode, start windows normally etc etc. Then it will do the countdown 'til it starts windows normally. but, as soon as I hit Enter, or the countdown is done, it freezes on that screen. I tried editing my BIOs, maybe there is more I can do in there, not
completely sure. I blew into the vents and tried to blow out any dust. I opened some of the computer, and sprayed some aerosol to clear out any dust on w.e I did open. ( I couldn't figure out how to open the whole bottom/back of the computer ) I also tried using the recovery disc, but it is not recognizing the disc drive. By this, I mean that it is not loading anything from the disc drive. I also tried to install another operating system (Mandriva Linux, DSL, and Ubuntu Linux) All help will be appreciated,

then the next day, it started up fine 2 times.

I tried to boot from the XP CD, and it does the whole blue screen thing until 'starting windows' then it just hangs up.

When I boot in safe mode, or attempt to, it gets stuck on system32\drivers\agp440.sys

any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M35

Ok... well it seems to be royally f;ed up.

I attempted to install windows again, after booting up. So it could not delete the partition. I had to install over it and erase it. In the process, it ended up with an error and cant complete the install. So now it keeps hitting some error about text.

I did have a ghost boot disc, and now it wont even finish booting up to the ghost program, it just gets to an a: prompt.

Anyway to wipe out the HD with not much access to anything and start over?

Question: Toshiba Satellite

I have a Toshiba Satelite l305d-s5900. I turn it on and it immediately goes to the toshiba leading innovation screen. It doesn't do anything if I press f2 or f12. I've tried pressing f8 while powering on as well as 0. It does nothing. I'm at a complete loss on what to do.
It makes no sound when trying any of the above or at start up. I took it apart earlier and there's nothing disconnected and no damaged wires that I can see. Ive also tried taking out my battery and turning on with just power supply because someone told me to try that, nothing. Please help!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite

how old is it, when did this start, is there a cd/dvd in the tray? remove all usb stuff that plugged in..try unplugging and removing the battery and holding the power button for 10 seconds, then plug it in and put the battery back in and try it..

if the 0 (zero) key works you will lose all data!

A while back someone brought me a computer to try and get into it. It's a Toshiba Satellite A505. She had been sick and not used it for about 6 mo. When she tried to get into it she had forgotten the Toshiba password to get into it (not the Windows Administrator password). She had tried numerous times with different things she had used before on things. Since you must take the computer completely apart and remove the motherboard to get to the battery, which is soldered on the bottom of the board, I couldn't remove and try that as I usually would do. I talked to a couple computer shops and they wanted around $150.00 to do all that. Where I am now with it is I have tried 2 other motherboards in it and neither of them has any video. It powers on and that's all I get.
I would be very appreciative of any suggestions.

laptops can be quite difficult to replace components without problems - where did you get the two motherboards from ? are they the exact model and revision

usually windows software OEM is locked to the motherboard - so you will need to also purchase another license for the software.

I only turn on and use my computer in the evening and have noticed my pc does not automatically make restore points, i think this is because of the time of day i use it, is there any [U]EASY[U]way i can change when these are made? I am not very computer literate so an easy explaination required!!

Answer:Toshiba satellite pro

System Restore points really only happen if there are software changes. Like Windows Update or installing a new program.

I have a Toshiba laptop satellite 5205-S503 and have installed a Toshiba WI-FI card. My broadband router is a D-Link 614+. I can't not get the laptop to see the router, although it does seem to know the desktop computer name. I'm kinda new at this WI-FI game. Toshiba wasn't much help although they did teach me how to turn on the laptop WI-FI switch.

Anybody got an idea of what I need to do to go wireless?

can we see the ipconfig /all - see below

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

Is your wireless security enabled - if so - log into the router and remove the wireless security - now see if it will connect - if it does - log back into the router and try the wireless security again

try a tcp/ip reset - see below

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your scre... Read more

Hey guys,

I need some help. My friend has brought her laptop to me as it no longer loads up to see if I can fix it. I have had a look on the Internet and I can't see anything that would realistically fix the machine. The machine is running Vista Basic.

This is the problem and I am hoping someone has a solution for me:

When switching on the machine the power light goes to green but nothing else happens. The disk light does not come on and the screen is completely blank. I can't load anything on the machine to try and get into safe mode, I have no way of getting into the Bios or anything as it just doesn't seem to be loading up. Now I have read alot recently about updates from Microsoft causing these types of issues and the "Black Screen of Death" and I don't know if that is the case here or if the screen is just broken. I did put the recovery disk in and the disk started spinning but I have no idea if it was working as I couldn't see anything on the screen.

I unfortunately don't have a space monitor to plug this into to see if the screen is just buggered but I honestly don't think it it, since there doesn't seem to be any disk activity either.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try? I would try and wipe it with a Vista disk I have but I don't know if that would work and want to try and save what is on the machine before I even try that.

Any help would be appreciated and if you need any mor... Read more

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro L40

Greetings, Kerry...

A few things you might consider trying, if you haven't already:

Since you can access the 'net, hit the Toshiba forums, see if anyone else has had similar problems...

Pull out the hard drive, RAM, and battery, make sure there's nothing foreign in the bays, and re-seat...

Make sure none of the fans are obstructed - some machines have fan fail-safes...

Try to boot from the Vista disk you mentioned, as a troubleshooting procedure...

Keep us posted...

OK This might be a really dumb question and all of you are gonna laugh but here goes. this is a a80 series laptop. My question is does this laptop ave only one memory slot, cause i took off the panel to test the memory and all I see is one slot. It does not seem logical that they would place the other slot in a different location. Or am i totally wrong, and the other slot is just somewhere else. The reason i ask is because if i dont have to take apart the case, good. i usuall break things like this.

Answer:Toshiba satellite mem?

Please note it says 512 Mb x 2.

Many laptops have an easilly reachable second slot for expansion and an internal harder-to-get-at slot.

I need to open my Toshiba A30 to get inside. I am experienced in Desktops but have never had a laptop open. The screws are all out, (or I think they are), what happens next? Does it prise apart? If so, I'm not holding my mouth right, Lol. Help appreciated.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A30

I know this is not an A30, but perhaps it will point you in the right direction ... (you might also find a screw located under keyboard, holding the DVD Drive in place) here

Answer:Turning off Toshiba software

Hi there,

I have an interesting link for you:,1697,2151341,00.asp
The site decribes how to speed up the bootup procedure of Windows Vista which includes the removal/maintainance of the startup list where the tools you?ve mentioned are listed.

Check this site, download the mentioned VistaBootPro bootmanager and remove all unneeded entries from your startup list. You can also use Tuneup 2008 which is commercial and which costs some bucks (but not the world) but it?s definetly worthy.

I'm thinking about formating my A100-454's hard disc, starting from zero and installing Windows Vista Ultimate.

I would like to know what (last version, and preferently, in portuguese language) software/drivers should i install. Is there any webpage that gives that information?, without being "dumped" by a search that gives "any software any drivers any version" downloads (yes, i'm forgetting the filters...:) )?

I ask because, as you all know, the laptop cames with many software/utilities installed, and, at least i, don't really know "what does what " and i would like to see a page that objectivelly, would say "for A100-454 ... install these software and drivers, this software does this, this software does that..."

Regards, from Portugal

Answer:What is the best way to see what toshiba software can/should be installed?

Select your model and download the drivers for your operating system.
