Preferred Solution: would know if ican setup a lock screen wheny computer boots up to completly lock it .

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Don't log in :-D

Use a very difficult password. We have plenty of password generators on majorgeeks.
Enable the system admin account and password protect it.
Those two are probably enough. How advanced is he?

Computer boots to a beach scene with clock(lock screen), but unable to do anything except turn PC off. Keyboard and mouse are disabled on boot. Tried every option from restore to recovery and system says it's unable to perform them. I don't have restore disks or any files to boot from jump drive. So need files to put on jump drive to boot with so I can reinstall Windows. This computer was upgraded since purchase to Windows 10.I don't want to lose files on PC so plan to rename folders in command prompt where personal files may be. Please help me where they may be so I can do this. I do IT work but don't have HP knowledge. Many years ago I would just rename windows folder then reinstall windows then copy folders I need from old folder then deltree old windows folder. I'm sure there is a partition with the windows files but not sure I'll be able to get Windows 10 back, but not worried about that at this point. Would just like to get computer functioning again and not have it be just a clock now. Thanks in advance. Stephen

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from the taskbar on my desktop. The upgrade was successful and I was able to use my computer normally. Today, when I started my computer, a disk check was started. After a long time of being stuck at 10%, I force booted the computer off. Now, the computer boots past the Windows 10 logo and goes to a black screen with the cursor. This screen appears before the login screen does. I am able to move the mouse but that is the limit of my control. The mouse is also showing the little blue loading circle next to it blinking over and over.

Hi,

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

My HP Pavilion DV7 notebook running Windows 7 went either to sleep or Hibernate and will not wake up. Hard shutdown and re-booted. All lights come on but get a black scree with the Cap lock and Num lock led blinking (pos BIOS). Blinking has no pattern simply blinking. Noticed the HD led not doing anything either. Trouble shoot attempted. 1. Unplugged all externals, removed Battery, unplugged power and held down start button for 1 min. No resolve. 2. removed HD and dim chips and re-seated then performed step 1. no resolve. 3. removed cmos battery for 10 min reinstalled and performed step 1. Still no resolve. Anyone have any other Ideas? Note; black screen so no access to any desktop ect. Also attempted attaching an external Monitor no signal noted.

I have dropped it once or twice from at most a 3ft fall inside a padded case. I mostly use my computer for school work, some gaming, extensive video/photo editing, internet browsing. I've installed some debatable programs but have been installed long ago. Most of my programs included Microsoft Office, Adobe suite, Steam, iTunes, uTorrent, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, Winrar, VLC, etc. But are now gone due to the refresh I had just done last week for prior problems, but still experience problems.

I recently been having issues with my computer where it just won't respond at all. Like today, I had it working for a few hours, but then went out and left my laptop on the lock screen, and came back to it being completely stuck. Completely stuck as in, no keys or clicks would unlock the screen to the login prompt. However, my cursor was fully able to move around the screen, and my caps/num lock buttons work as they display the lights enabling/disabling them. The time when it was stuck was 8:03pm, but the clock was stuck on 7:55. But on the bottom of the front of the laptop, the HDD orange light is not lit up at all, which I believe suggest that the HDD is not reading/properly reading. Oddly e... Read more

Hello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.

Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?

Welcome to Windows TenForums, Vaindil.

It doesn’t seem to work on anyone’s system and there doesn’t seem to be a fix yet. You can read here into the beginning of the next page if you like.

Well, I have no idea what caused this but the tablet buttons (even the on/off button) the lights for caps lock and scroll lock as well as the automatic screen orientation change when I flip it to be a tablet have stopped working. Also the screen does not turn off anymore when the lid is closed. Reinstalled pretty much all of the drivers, no effect.Any ideas? Is this thing already broken?

well, SOMETHING is broken.. though it would seen unlikely it is hardware.. a question: did you load anything new just before this happened..?anything at all..scanner drivers or printer drivers or a new application..? OH!, welcome to the lenovo community..!

Good afternoon,

I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.

Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!

If you are using Windows 8, then it is important to note that the on-screen indicators for Num Lock and Caps Lock are not available in Windows 8. To know more about this, you can refer to the link below:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30035/~/no-num-lock-and-caps-lock-indicator If you are using Windows 7, you can check if following the steps below helps:1. Locate and double-click "Caps Lock" and select the option "Display Caps Lock status on screen". Click "Finish".6. Follow Step 5 for Nums Lock as well. Hope this will resolve your issue.

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away.  How do I turn off the on screen display.  Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see).  Thanks kindly.

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then try updating your BIOS.  If neither works...It's pretty much dead and not worth fixing.  To Perform A Hard Reset Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

For some time now, i have been experiencing that my Num Lock, Caps Lock and Scroll Lock all lights up (not blinking) all at the same time, I tried to google it but i can not find any solutions or explanations for it.

Does anyone know if it is bad? and what is causing this?

I am having a wired keyboard with nothing fancy just a standard issue Logitech keyboard.

Can you toggle those functions off, one at a time? Sometimes restarting the computer will use the last state it was in, I'd fully shut down and pull the power cord from the computer and the keyboard cable then put them back and try again.

I have an Athlon 650, 512 MB PC running Windows 2000 server edition running Internet Connection Sharing (for cable modem), and IIS 5.0 for several web sites. I also use it as a file server. I usually leave it just sitting there and just update things every once in a while. I don't even have a monitor hooked to it. Should I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and click the "lock computer" or log out? Would this make it more secure somehow to hacks? I haven't had any problems yet, but I just want it secure as possible.

Any help would be appreciated!

Ok I've been suffering this issue with Windows 10 for as long as I can remember, and it's stopping me using it as the primary OS.

In short I have two, intermittent issues which nothing I do seems to resolve.

1: After waking up from sleep and typing my username password and hitting return, the screen goes black. Cursor moves, Windows + P operates (Screen options do appear from the right) but doesn't actually make any difference, and I'm stuck having to hard reset because ctrl alt del doesn't work either. This isn't an every time issue, hence googling seems to fail miserably because all the examples are people getting it every time. This, for me, is a 3 in 10 regularity.

2: Logging a user off occasionally sees the lock screen ... locking up. Ironically. Mouse moves, and power button DOES work but that's all that works.

These issues are plaguing me and I just cannot fix them - endless googling has left me empty handed, and I've tried disabling SLI. No help. I've tried disabling apps. No help. Nothing I do makes any difference and event viewer doesn't seem to reveal anything useful either.

Anyone got any idea how I can resolve this?

2TB Seagate HDD
4790K
2x980Ti SLI

In Windows 7 or Windows 8 there is no problem.
This is not a problem in Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Hi! So, I've upgraded to Windows 8 RTM this weekend and I'm having this problem: Every time I boot the PC (shutdown or restart), the Num Lock key is off. Since my password uses numbers, and I'm pretty used to type it with Num Lock, I'd like to keep it always on. It was fine on Windows 7. Now, I've searched for it, and there is the "InitialKeyboardIndicators" key on regedit. I have changed values for all of them to "2", and it didn't work. My BIOS say to keep it always on. Is there anything else that I'm missing?

Answer:Num Lock always activated on lock screen

Netplwiz, or tap num lock before starting password entry.

Besides those, you can check to make sure keyboard is plugged in directly to motherboard instead of add-on card or something.

Can anyone tell me how to eliminate the lock screen preview and bypass the 'Sign In' button on the lock screen?

I often put my computer to sleep then to bring it back (in Windows 7) I would simply hit the space bar and turn on my mouse and it would go straight to my desktop. Now, I hit the space bar turn on my mouse, and it takes me to the lock screen preview then I hit the space bar and it takes me to a lock screen where I have to click 'Sign In' even though I have no password set.

I'm guessing I'll no longer be able to hit the spacebar, turn on my mouse and go directly to the desktop but if I can hit the spacebar, turn on the mouse, then hit the space bar one last time, that would be satisfactory.

Answer:Lock Screen Preview and Lock Screen nuisance

Turns out, the instructions I found to not require a password at the sign in screen did the trick for me.

I've tried searching through the forum but can't see anyone who has a similar issue.

I can access the lock screen settings and I can see all available apps and have set a detailed status app and a couple of less detailed ones. However, when I actually get to the lock screen after having set the apps to appear, there is nothing but the time and date and WiFi in bottom-right corner.

Could this be because I am logging in locally rather than using a MS account?

Log into the tablet.2. The screensaver would lock the tablet.3. Press Ctrl Alt Delete to get to the logon screen.4. The on screen keyboard would show the Caps Lock key as on but it wasn't. If they pressed the Caps Lock key it would then be on.5. The users don't press the Caps Lock key now, even though it is being displayed as on, and they can logon OK. I cannot recreate this problem on another X61tablet and this behaviour happens even when the notebook is in a docking station with an external keyboard.  anybody seen this error before?

When I am using my computer, the screen will go black and then go to the lock screen, just like if I had locked it using the start menu. It happens even If I'm actively using my computer. A friend of mine managed to change his lock computer screen without knowing it and has no idea how he did it and would like it changed backed to the normal xp lock computer screen. Now whenever he locks his computer, a full screen image of a picture he recently moved to his computer appears. He says all he did with the picture was move it from the camera to the computer, edit it in a windows picture editor, print it and then delete it. We've searched through his 'my pictures' folders and cleared the recycling bin, and he can't recall what the image name was so we can't just search for it. I've pursued the issue on google but every guide has told me to do far more intricate things than I know my friend would have done (like using the registry editor or downloading an external program). Any ideas?

If he's using the method here -> http://www.ehow.com/how_2342771_lock-windows-xp.html when he looks at the Screen Saver page he'll have a choice (down arrow) of screens and can reset to XP there.

Beginning dump of physical memory.

This has happened more then once, I shut down the computer and when I reboot I do not automatically connect to the internet, and have to shut down again and end up waiting till the next day because it's so fustrating.
Please help me, and just to let you know I'm not to computer literate.
Thanks

Answer:Computer Lock Up With Blue Screen

This error is typically caused by a bad device driver (although it can be caused by other things). Check your devices in Device Manager (Start > Run > type "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter). See if there are any yellow ! or red X symbols.

About six months ago, my laptop was hacked by my roommates, who hid the hard drive behind a "secret home group" and left me with only a local file and no permissions to check or use any system logs. I couldn't do anything, because I only had "read only" privileges. They had somehow overridden my permissions, but I'm not sure how they did it. They managed to download hidden software and basically stole my identity. (Thank goodness it's not worth stealing) I ended up buying a new computer with Windows 10 (which I absolutely hate), and I'm wondering if it's possible to get back into my old laptop, but I had lost access to the recovery functions (even in Safe Mode) when they started screwing with it. If I remember correctly, I can get through the lock screen by entering the password, but when the light blue signin screen comes up, it's "encrypted" in what looks to be wingdings. Someone suggested they may have just removed a font. In any case, I'm wondering if there is anyway to get in and salvage the computer, even if I have to turn it back to factory reset with Windows 8.1. I have a USB, but I can't find anything that will help me get into the computer.

Whenever my laptop wakes up from sleep and shows the lock screen, I click and type in my PIN as normal. But on the lock screen at the top right, there's a Cortana box usually giving an example of what I can do, like 'tap and say remind me to water the plants when I get home'.

The problem is this box stays on the screen after the computer is unlocked, and displays semi-transparently in the top left over all other windows, with the only way to remove it is to double click, have a Cortana window display full screen and then close it.

I'd like to find a way of either fixing this or disabling Cortana from the lock screen altogether as I never use this feature. Any tips would be appreciated.

Hi, this is a weird bug that I've noticed which is a little different and I prefer to have my Lock Screen picture as the picture when the computer boots up.
(Note: I am the only administrator, and there's only this account on my computer)

Every time I boot the computer, and Windows starts to load, this picture which I call "Inside The Man Cave" shows up when Windows logs into my account:
Yet I have set my Lock Screen picture as this:

How can I have the picture of the Girl Playing Music For The Birds as the picture that would show instead of being Inside The Man Cave?

Thanks.

On Settings > Personalization > Lock screen you need to scroll down and turn on 'Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen'. It's very near the bottom, so you might not have seen it.

Is there a way to do this without putting your computer to sleep?

I'd like to be able to lock my screen and still have my files download while it's locked for example.

I've tried google and all, but all the results are for mac, and nothing is showing for PC...

Thanks guys!

Answer:lock screen without putting computer to sleep

Hi, if you mean to just lock your computer, I am asumming vista, it is pretty easy.
You will need to have the settings correct so it won't go to sleep automatically.

But if you want o have it so you need the accout password to use the computer again, just go to the Start Menu, and on the bottom right will be 2 buttons and an arrow. One button is to shut the computer down or something like that, the other is to lock the computer. You can als click the arrow and select Lock that way.

I'm not sure if the Lock optio is avaliable if you don't have a password set, so you will need to have that set.

If this is not what you were looking for, please tell me and I will try to correct it.

I don't think its possible - try choosing the password option when the screensaver is interrupted and set the screensaver interval to 1 min.

Hi all.

I have a Dell XPS L502X laptop-Core i7 with a Kingston HyperX 3K SSD installed in it. The operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate.

I did a clean installation of Windows when installing my SSD by following a guide "Sean's Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSD" and everything worked perfectly and was very fast. It used to boot up and open all applications and make all network connections within 15 -20 seconds and from then the computer was fully functional.

However, lately I have been having an issue immediately after the boot process hits the desktop. The applications I have always had starting up start up in the same amount of time, but the wireless networking seems to be causing an issue. It may not be the culprit but it is what I notice to be different.

The wireless icon with have the signal bars with the blue circle over them as if it would be connecting to a network. The blue circle does not move as it usually does though. If I click the icon nothing happens. If I right click the icon, the options won't open up unless I repeatedly try to right click it. After a minute or two, it seems like something happens all at once and everything I was trying to do earlier happens and a connections is established.

While the icon and wireless issue is occurring, I am unable to open any applications. If I click the google chrome icon, it will act as if it will load and then just go away. When I click it again, the same thing. Ho... Read more

Answer:Boots fast but networking seems to lock up usability for a few minutes

What ever program was opening up before you even had a connection is most likely causing the problem..

You need to turn off all those start up programs, no two ways about it. Do not allow anything to start up when you start Windows. It's delaying your wireless from making a connection.

Now when I turn the computer on It automatically directs me to a blue windows setup screen. In order to start WinXP I must manually select windows in the three second time limit.

How do I get my computer to automatically start windows at start up?

Hi, welcome to tsf!

You are using an older version of hijackthis .. uninstall what you have now via add/remove > control panel then follow the next instruction

Please click Here to download HijackThis to your desktop.

Click the Download button. When the Trend Micro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.

It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis

A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.

The program will open automatically after installation.

You can double-click the icon that was placed on the Desktop to run subsequent HijackThis scans or you can use the icon inside the folder. The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save. When you use the application to remove anything, you will also find the backup copies made by HJT inside this folder.

Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile" When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here.

My laptop was going to lockscreen after 15 minutes. I adjusted power settings and went to advanced screen, adjusted that and ......no change.  Now somebody somewhere said that my system settings were overriding my power settings and that helped. I
did this and things were fixed. But now, it's gone back to 15 minute thing, which is a pain when I'm watching, say, a movie. And, I don't remember what I did before to fix it, and I can't find the information anywhere!  Help!!!

Answer:How to stop computer from going to lock screen after 15 minutes (Windows 8.1)

Hi,
Seems we all missed an important option:
Please click "Settings" in the right charm bar, then "Change PC Settings"\"PC and device"\"Lock Screen",

Turn off "When my PC is inactive, show the lock screen instead of turning off the screen"
You can change the inactive time with security policy:

Click Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Local Security Policy> Local Policies> Security Options> Interactive Logon: Machine Inactivity Limit>set the time you want.
After you change the policy setting, run gpupdate /forceYolanda Zhu

Greetings!  I recently purchased a replacement motherboard and installed it on my f023wm.  Windows loads up and boots with no issues and the quick tests in diagnostics all come back as passing.  The thing is, the caps lock button is actually behaving as if it were the HDD LED... blinking erratically and in no distinguishable pattern at all.  I've counted anywhere between 7 to 20 blinks in rapid-fire succession.   I am currently running the System Extensive Tests in diagnostic mode and thus far the Processor Check, the Hard Drive SMART Check, the Hard Drive Short DST Check, the Battery Check, the Wireless Module Check, and the System Board have passed all tests with no errors to report.  The Memory Extensive Check and the Hard Drive Long DST Check tests are still in progress but I will follow up with those results as soon as they are available (estimated 2 hours and 20 minutes remaining).   I should also point out that when the caps lock button blinks, the system stutters as if it were lagging and pressing the caps lock button does nothing to stop the blinking. Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on?  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am stumped when it comes to this behavior.  Thanks for taking the time to read and I look forward to any help regarding the matter!

I've got one laptop running W7 Home Premium (Somy Vaio PCG 71911m) which always boots with num lock enabled.

Since I often use different keyboards is there any way to disable this on boot or turn it off automatically.

The BIOS surprisingly doesn't seem to have an option for this --most laptops I've used in the pass had a setting in the Bios to turn this off at boot.

Cheers

I have recently built a new computer after having multiple issues and problems with my last one. However, this one does not seem to be without its own problems now. Whenever I play games (Magicka, World of Warcraft, Assassins Creed, SimCity, Starcraft 2, pretty much any game), either the graphics driver fails, shutting off the display for 5-10 seconds before restarting, or the computer flat out locks up. The screen freezes, sound plays as normal for 5-10 seconds before the sound locks up as well giving the long grating sound before everything falling silent. At this point it will stay like this until I hold down the power button. If it helps at all, after I press the power button again to turn it back on right after there is a several second delay. Read somewhere that it might be a power supply issue. Any thoughts/help/advice?

Answer:Computer lock up, no blue screen while playing multiple games

Apparently happens about every 15 minutes if I try to play Sim City. Ran FurMark, definitely doesn't seem to be anything overheating...

My T500 got bumped and now when it boots it gets to the Lenovo screen and then goes to a blank screen with a picture of a little computer and a picture of a lock beside it. They are both small and in the upper right corner of the screen. It seems to want a password to get beyond this screen but it doesn't accept the password for the computer or any other option I try. Hi I have a standard Lenovo W500 4062-2XG (3 months old).  I am running an external 22" screen with extended desktop and a Microsoft wireless keyboard & mouse.   The machine was installed with Vista Ultimate, but I was having too many problems with Vista so I used the included XP downgrade CDs to install XP Professional instead. I am experiencing a hanging problem that I need some assistance with.  This is the series of events that causes the hang: 1. Lock my workstation using ctrl+alt+del and selecting "lock computer", or using the win button + 'L'.  I am presented with the standard "This computer is in use and has been locked" Lenovo dialog window, with the option to swipe a finger, or press ctrl+alt+del and enter a password.2. Walk away from the workstation until the screen saver is scheduled to automatically start up.  The screen saver has password protection enabled.3.  At this point, the locked Lenovo dialog window (from point 1) disappears, but the screensaver does not initialise.  All that remains is the background wallpapers on both screens and some slight activity from the hdd light on the laptop.  I am unable to do anything further.  ctrl+alt+del has no effect and neither do any other buttons.  The keyboard is still responsive (indicated by the numlock light) and I can still see the mouse pointer and move it around, but I cannot do anything else.  I am forced to physically shut down the ... i want to make a shortcut on my desktop to activate the screen saver and also locks the computer at the same time?????????

Answer:how to make a shortcut to lock computer and activate screen saver

For the screensaver, find the .scr file in C:\Windows\System32\ then create a shortcut to it with the -s flag. For example:
Target: C:\Windows\system32\[screensaver].scr -s

For locking the workstation, use:
C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation

Not sure you can do both in one, but I think you can set the screensaver to ask for a password afterwards, which has the same result.

If, as it sounds, it is booting up but not ever displaying anything on the screen, check the cable between the motherboard and the screen. It might just be one of the connectors (at either end) has worked loose. With the computer well booted up, move the screen gently down to nearly closed. If you ever see anything on the screen then it could be the cable is faulty where it hinges.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I have a Ideapad Y560P that shut down suddenly and when we tried to turn it back on, the Caps Lock and Num Lock (on F8 key) lights go on but the computer does not start. I saw a similar thread from 2010 but there was no resolution. I assume that the two lights on at the same time at attempted start indicate some kind of "fault" condition in the computer. I have not been able to get the bios to start so that I could run diagnostics. I pulled the battery and held down power for 30 seconds, pressed start twice, put the battery back in but still won't start. I pulled memory out, trying to get a POST "beep" error but that didn't occur. I put memory back in one dimm at a time. I pulled the Hard Drive out and put it in an external enclosure and was able to extract the information to another laptop so I'm pretty sure I didn't have a hardware Hard Drive failure. Other than the one reference in this forum I haven't seen any information about this kind of, what I assume is a, hardware failure. I assume that Lenovo has some kind of guide that tells them what the lights mean. The computer was about six months out of warrenty when it failed. I called Lenovo to attempt to extend the warranty but they won't once it is out of warranty. Looking for some idea of what failed, whether it is worth getting one of Lenovo's listed companies that repair laptops to look at it and fix the problem.

My recent purchase of the above All-in-One PC (running on Windows 10) included the Lenovo SK-8861 keyboard which has no lights for the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK keys. How do I get them to be displayed on the screen when pressed? When I went into Display Settings in Control Panel, I could not find the option to set them on or off.  so, based on the instructions on https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht002122, I installed the Hotkey driver from http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/downloads/ds031814.  When I now go into Advanced Settings under Display Settings and click on Screen Configurations, I can see the Enable on-screen display checkbox and the Appearance settiings but the expected Indicator Settings for NUM LOCK and CAPS LOCK aren't being displayed as expected. Can anybody advise what I need to do to enable these settings? Lenovo On-Screen-Display is listed under the Installed Programs in Control Panel. Many thanks.

Answer:Displaying the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK indicators on the Lenovo AIO 510 Ideacentre

I do not have an answer for how to enable them via the control plane, but I can point you to a free tool called Keyboard LEDs that I have used in the past that when installed will put an indicator in the system tray, and will sound a tone  and display on screen if so configured in its settings.. Cheers,

Hello guys,

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I am having some issues.

First one is: When I click jpg, gif, or any image files that uses the photo viewer as a default viewer, photo viewer pops up twice, one with the file I selected and one with the collection screen. It only does this on the first view of a image file after reboot. Once it does this, it doesn't do it until I reboot.

Second one is: I use a PIN as my login password. The number lock on the log in screen doesn't work. I almost always have to press NUM Lock button in order to use the number key pad. I checked the BIOS setting and Num Lock is on.

I will be appreciate any help.

You've posted 2 different problems that should have been separate posts. I don't have a solution to the first but the second is probably because the keyboard driver has not yet loaded before getting logged in. I saw the same during setup of a new ASUS Notebook just yesterday that came with Win8.1. Disconcerting was the lack of a light or screen indication that the NumLk key had been pressed, just noticed the same is occurring on my Dell Inspiron 15R that has been Upgraded to Win10 although it is a rescued/rehabbed Notebook, it does have the light on the front edge of the case, just does not turn on.

I have a Satellite C660 which was working fine this morning. When I returned from work and powered it on, the entire keyboard is not working and therefore cannot enter my login details.
The Num lock and Caps lock are lit.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Answer:Satellite C660 - keyboard is not working but Num lock and Caps lock are lit

Hi

Are you able to disable the CapsLock and NumLock?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering up the unit?

If this does not work, I would recommend checking an external USB keyboard.
If the USB keyboard would functions, then this means that the internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Not a techie.  Can't get straight answer ANYWHERE.  New laptops tend to NOT have indicators on the keys.  Hoping Windows 10 has indicators that can be turned on and PROBABLY would show up in the tray at the bottom right of the screen.
I have heard of sites where such things can be downloaded but again NOT a techie, so I hesitate to go outside of Windows/Microsoft for downloads.  I do not know what download sites are safe or spoofs.

Please plain English ... i.e. go to settings etc.  Or just give me a Microsoft approved site for download.

Hi,

My errors are a freezing cursor - dead mouse on every other reboot ..and.. With file transfers from one HDD to another I will frequently get a system lockup of Windows (forcing me to reboot. hard reboot). My System is CLEAN of viri and trojan as wella s spyware. I Have WinXP Pro Sp2. Running Zone Alarm Pro v6, Eset NOD32 v2.5, Webroot Spysweeper (for coookies and alt scans), Spyware Doctor v.3.2.1.359 (resident), and Trojan Hunter v4 (also resident on boot). I am also booting and browsing with Pop-Up Stopper Pro. My Hardware? Abit NF7-S rev.2, Athlon 3200 Barton core, Best OCZ 400Mhz RAM (?) - 1Gb in dual channel, Audigy 4 Pro for sound. Latest drivers for all "to best of my knowledge" Any Helpers? :)

*More on the file tranfer lock-ups. The two other drives are Seagate drives and identicle. They're 300 Gb each... I have not reformated them since my last Windows reinstall - they were detected right off.

Could be Windows isnt seeing those drives for what they are?? Even worse, a bus problem?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Mouse Lock-Up (not there on boot) and Windows Lock-Up Transfering Files HDD to HDD.

have you tryed running safemode? is it the same?
run a chkdsk: start > My Computer > right click the drive u want to scan > properties > tools > error checking - Check Now > put tick in both boxes > click start > click to scedule on next boot > restart

see if it returns any errors or corrects this

Hi guys. Sometimes, when the X201T is in the mood to not shut down properly (and have the HDD light go off for an infinite amount of time), I find that I cannot lock my computer with windows-L.  Also, I cannot hit ctrl-alt-delete to bring up the task manager.  Finally, I cannot run any software that brings up a UAC prompt, as consent.exe will be backgrounded and I am never offered the chance to hit yes. I believe it's all related to the same core issue - that, for some reason or another, the machine doesn't want to let something take over the display.  Consent.exe would require the machine's screen to half-black out for the prompt.  Lock would send you to the lock screen, and Ctrl-Alt-Del brings up the Windows Security Menu.  I run Windows 7 x64. I installed the OS from scratch, and I was careful to follow the lenovo "installing OS from scratch" instructions on their website.  I fully realize that the order of driver and software installs matters with Thinkvantage stuff. I do IT work and I've deployed many Lenovo laptops to employees over the years.  I don't think it's anything I'm doing wrong, but you never know! Just to see if it was an issue with my windows install, I reinstalled Windows yesterday, and I'm getting the same behavior.  Sorry about all the posts, everyone.  As you can see, I'm having multiple issues.

I went to get my HP dv4 Pavilion laptop after work tonight to check email and i opened it up and moved around the mouse to wake it up...the lights on they keyboard all came on as if it were starting but the screen stayed black. I waited a few minutes because sometimes it's been known to take a few seconds to actually kick on...but nothing happened so I forced shutdown by holding the power button. Turned it back on and the screen came on(with a "your system didn't shut down properly error screen) but it still started, but now the Caps Lock and Scroll keys had blinking lights on the side and top, blinking together about every second. I tried tapping the buttons and nothing happened. What caused this and how can i get rid of the blinking. I've read from doing a google search that shutting down, taking the battery out and unplugging from the A/C adapter and holding the power button for 15 seconds takes care of the problem...but I would like to make sure that is safe before trying as this is a fairly new laptop(just got it at Christmas time). I'm running Windows 7 if that makes a difference. would also like to add that I just noticed that my little batter icon says it is plugged in but not charging....it's sitting at 80%....this is a brand new ac adapter that I just got last week...so I hope it's not that.Thank you for any help you can give me....and sorry if this isn't the right forum....it seemed to be the best fit.

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop that is about 2 years old. I usually keep it in Hibernate mode but last night I shut it down totally and this morning woke up and the Caps lock and Num lock keys are blinking. Any clues as to what the problem is? All led lights on top are lit. Screen does not come up at all. I am going to try the hard reset to see if that is the problem. Any ideas would help.

Hi, Welcome to TSG forums!
You might try booting it into safe mode....while computer is booting, continously tap the F8 key. This should open it in safe mode. If it does, use the arrow keys to move up to 'last known good configuration' click on enter, let the machine do its thing.

How do I remove the Caps and Num Lock indictor for a Lenovo G50, that is running Windows 10?

Answer:Remove Caps lock/Num lock indicator? (Windows 10)

Hi Thisismyname01 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

On a similar G50 , this was resolved by uninstalling Energy Management .

Another steps that was advised :

1. Opening Control Panel >Program and Features>Uninstall a Program and look for Caps OSD or Lenovo OSD

2. On the display properties of the graphic card , you may also configure to "Show indicator for a few seconds" .

3. Disable hotkeys from the BIOS ( but this may change all other usable hotkeys ) . Lets's reserve it a last option.

Update us what works for you.
