I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You cannot create a dual boot where one of the OSs is on a USB drive. You need to add a second internal drive or partition the existing one.

I have a 3g usb seagate expansion drive that is about 3 mths old. It has frequently disappeared from my computer. I would have to reboot and disconnect the power from the drive to get it to come back.

Is this a sign of a bad drive or just a glitch that some kind of a driver update will solve.

In the same system I have a 6g WD drive that works flawless.

A work colleague has thrust her external drive at me in the hope that I may access the files which are contained therein.
The drive isn't visible in My Computer, Device Manager and Disk Management. The flash of the drive's blue light is the only sign of life.
Extensive googling would suggest that the drive or the cable is kaput since all the solutions required some visibility, at least in Disk management.
Any ideas worth exploring?

Answer:Seagate Expansion Drive

Declanworld, if you can find another power supply with the same voltage and polarity then try that as it could be faulty. Just because the blue light comes on doesn't necessarily mean the power supply's working properly.

I have a Seagate expansion portable drive 500Gb. It has been running ok until the last month where now on plugging into the USB slot, autorun runs for 3 -5 seconds and nothing more happens. When I go into My Computer whereas before it showed the drive as F: Seagate, it now shows as F: local disc.

If I click on this drive, after a delay I get the "F:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". And yet I have downloaded and scanned with Seagate Tools for Windows which shows the drive and gives it an ok status.

I have looked in Disc Management where it shows my C: as "healthy system" and the F: (Seagate) as "healthy active" and % free with a value of 100% and fault tolerance value of NO and OVERHEAD = 0%.

My Device Manager also shows it as being recognised.

I've tried the Seagate community forum to no avail.

Any ideas please - much appreciated.

Answer:Seagate expansion drive not recognised

First guess would be a corrupted File System. When you open disk management the drive should be seen something like this:

Seagate F:
465.76 GB NTFS
Healthy (Primary)

Do you see NTFS or something like RAW or Unallocated etc.?

Ok, i don't know a lot about Storage but i'll try my best to explain my issue.
My Seagate Expansion Portable 2TB worked completely fine until i unplugged the USB cable to my computer (turned off computer before removing it) and when i plugged it back in again i experienced issues with my computer "unplugging" the HDD at random times. When i play games downloaded on my External HDD it sometimes crashes because of my computer "unplugging it".
After my computer "unplugs" it, it just works fine until it happens again.
I've tried replacing the USB cable for my external hard drive trying to fix the issue, but it did not work!
If it helps here are the items involved:
Computer: ASUS ROG GR6
External Hard Drive: Seagate Expansion Portable 2TB (HDD)
USB Cable for External HDD (Not original): DACOTA P. USB3.0 A TO MICRO 1M BK
Thank you for any help!

I've got a Seagate Expansion drive, S/N 2GHK8M0X. It worked fine in my old computer. I just built a new one and when I plug the drive into the usb port windows fails to recognize the drive.

My previous computer was running Windows Vista, this one is running Windows 7.

Any idea on what I can do to fix this? From what I can find there are no drivers and no firmware for this drive, at least not on the Seagate site.

If it's a laptop, you could try this (fixed someone else's USB problems - interested to know if it works for you):
Unplug power cord and take out the battery.
Hold the start button in for 30 seconds.
Replace battery and plug power cord in.

I couldve sworn I posted this question over a month ago but I cant find it anywhere. Not surprising, I dont remember where I parked my car. I might have posted it to airheadsЯus.com for all I know. I have several Seagate 3TB STBV3000100 Desktop Expansion drives. I realize this question might be better suited for the Seagate support forums but I get this weird message when i try to login:

I have absolutely no idea what any of that could possibly mean. But that is neither here or there.* Its just that I am becoming desperate and Im hoping the huge wealth of knowledge here in sevenforums might offer some assistance. The drive has been working fine for over a year (just a little longer than the warranty of course). Suddenly it disappears from the drives listed in Win 7 Pro. I have tried switching out the data and power cables and USB ports and tried this on different Win 7 computers. When it powers on the blue activity light comes on as it should and I can hear it spin up Within a couple of minutes, the light goes off and it spins down. During this period Win 7 does not see it at all. Both the data and power ports seems physically stable from what I can tell from simple observation. I have not taken it apart (yet). If anyone could offer any suggestions on what my next step should be I would be extremely ap... Read more

Hello
I have a 4TB USB 3.0 Seagate Expansion Drive which dosn't seem to be working.

On File Explorer on "This PC" the drive is recognised as E: Local Drive when previously it was recognised as E: Seagate Expansion Drive

Then I click on E: Local DriveThe PC will think about it for a very long time then the file Explorer will stop responding and eventually the screen goes black except for the mouse and will only start working again when I unplug the drive.

The Device Manager recognises as a Hard Drive as a Seagate Expansion Desk SCSI Disk device
The Disc Management recognises the drive as E: system Raw

The Drive was plugged into a Readynas 104 for a long time but it stopped being detected on there.
The drive was almost full

Thanks in advance

I have a 320GB Seagate Expansion Drive which worked fine for several months, but in the last week or so the only way I could get it to register on my computer was to push the USB plug into the port on the unit very firmly. This sometimes caused the drive to work for a while, but then later ceased to work when I let go. So, I decided to tape it place very tightly. Wrong move! The whole USB port came loose from the mother board! Is it possible to have this fixed? I have a lot of stuff on the drive I don't want to lose!!!

Answer:USB port loose from Seagate Expansion Drive

I'm not entirely clear on what you are describing. Are you calling an external hard drive and "expansion drive" or is the "expansion drive" a drive physically mounted in a chassis? An external hard drive doesn't have a motherboard.

If the USB port came loose on an external drive enclosure adapter you could remove the drive from the present enclosure and install it in a new enclosure if the external drive is an IDE drive or a standard SATA drive.

Posting a picture may help decipher exactly what you are describing.

Well I've been some problems with my Seagate 1tb the funny thing is it worked fine on my windows 8 computer for about a week then it just didn't. I plugged into my xp laptop and into my work computer and they both read it just fine. I tried it on another windows 8 machine and the same problem... windows 8 hates it I guess. I've been looking allover for an answer or for an update from seagate... nothing. The problem is not the cable. The problem is not the computer. Both hardware are completely new. My guess is some driver issue at windows 8 part seeing as the problem was replicated exactly on another computer.

Answer:windows 8 1TB seagate expansion drive not working.

After weeks of fighting it I finally came upon a solution. Here's the thing. Windows 8 has a tougher security system. If your account is the administrator of the computer it doesn't guarantee you access to the drive or peripherals. Your user has to be given access rights to it. So you have to manually add yourself(the user for example Computername\UserBlah and add all the privileges of read write and access to the specific user. I'm pretty sure if you add a general user or computer user rule it may work as well but in my case i just added myself and the drive was accessed normally again. Pain in the butt security imho .Made me waste countless hours of processes and research.

I consistently got an error message saying the drive could not be ejected and until the program using it was closed. Task Manager confirmed no application was running. I've got a 2tb Seagate Expansion external drive (0nly about 2 years old) that in the last week keeps disconnecting itself (when transferring files to another Seagate Expansion) and then makes a little clicking sound. I connected it to another USB port with another data cable (thinking it might be either or a power issue) and it started working again and all the files were still intact. The next day after a short time it happened again so I swapped the cable back to the original USB port and it was fine again. Is it possible I'm overworking the USB port (some files are @5-10gb)? I should say I had a similar issue about a month ago when I was trying to transfer music to my new phone from one of the front USB ports so I'm hoping its not an issue with the Expansion drive as I've never had a problem with it before (don't want to lose all my Twilight Zone episodes :( ) and the other one is 2 years older and still works fine. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance ;)

Yesterday my USB drive (Seagate Expansion Desktop 2TB) failed in a strange way. Let me describe the symptoms:

- When I power on the laptop with the disk attached, the boot process (or rather POST) is very long. The drive always spins up, but in this case I only get a blinking light. Nothing happens. No access to the drive whatsoever.

- When I attach the drive to my already running laptop, the disk spins up, make a strange noise that is identical to removing the power from the disc, then it spins down, and the process repeats itself like 10 times. When the disk is fully spinning, the drive is showing in My Computer and Disk Management, but because it makes that power-lost sound it Iimmediately disappears, and the process repeats itself.

I tried plugging it to my netbook - drive spins fine, no "reset", but I can't install the driver. It properly discovers the name of the drive, but driver installation always fails.

I opened it and plugged it the USB to SATA card from the other disk. It runs good, no "restarts", but because those two discs use different USB connectors I can't see if it's working in Windows.

Any suggestions? Is this failure fatal? Can I recover the data from this drive?

I don't have any proper SATA motherboard, so I can't connect the disk directly to check if it's working.

Thanks for any tips.

Answer:Seagate Expansion Desktop strange failure

Nothing strange there and that behavior is pretty common; external drives fail all the time and fail in various ways.

Best way to determine if its the hard drive or just the enclosure is to take it apart and try the drive by itself either by plugging it directly into a computer or with the use of a SATA to USB adapter. If you do not have access to either one you will need to find a friend who does or take it to local computer repair shop. It's impossible to say if the data can be recovered easily until you determine where the failure is. Even if the actual hard drive has failed there's always data recovery companies that can do it in most cases but that'll cost you.

Hi, I'm new to the forum so please bear with me!

So I've been using my external hard drive for over a year to store music and photos; it has a 500GB capacity.

But recently when I've plugged my hard drive in it's not showing under my computer, or if it does show it wont open and I keep getting an error message. Is there any other way I can go about searching for it on my laptop?

I don't know if it's my laptop or my hard drive that has the problem, and really need some help please!
(The only other laptop I have available is a Mac, which i cannot use to open the hard drive unless I format it, which means losing my data so i really don't want to do that)
EDIT: i've followed the troubleshooting on the seagate website, and discovered that my hard drive partition is RAW.. is there a way i can change this?

Howdy,

I bought a new computer with Win7 about a month ago which came with a 1TB Seagate hard drive installed so I decided to replace my previous 250 GB Aulartek External with a 1TB Seagate External Drive.

Well ... to make a long story short I tried installing the new Seagate 1TB Expansion Drive a few hours ago but up to this point I can't get the computer to recognize it.

However, there is a 'green light' visible on the end of the new Seagate External that is lit up and if I click on the 'Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media' button on the taskbar it does show something called 'Eject Desktop' under 'Open Devices and Printers'.

I tried going to the Seagate Community Forum but got even more confused than when I started trying to troubleshoot my problem with not being able to see it listed under 'Computer'.

My old Aulartek External had an 'on and off switch' and this new Seagate doesn't have one unless I just can't find it.

I have both the USB and A/C Power supply plugged in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Try right clicking on computer in the start menu, and select manage. In the window that opens after giving admin approval, selece disk management in the left column. It should show every hard drive connected to your computer. In the lower portion of the window, look for your Seagate, right click it and select change drive letter or path, in the next window click add and choosed a drive letter. Click OK. after the drive letter is assigned, you will be able to see the drive in explorer.

Hi there.

For the past week I have been retrieving 2 TB of movies from my Seagate 3TB Expansion Desk drive (USB 3). It started acting funny after my room mate accidentally flipped the main power circuit for my bedroom while I was in the middle of a transfer. Oddly enough, I was in the middle of retrieving videos from a 6+ year old Verbatim 500 GB which had an ongoing power circuit issue when he flipped the switch. I was salvaging those videos to this 3TB drive at that moment. He killed that Verbatim dead to rights with the surge, and I believe it caused the issues on this Seagate 3TB.

I can still transfer data to and from the Seagate anywhere from 35-90 MB/s depending on if the other drive is a USB 3 as well. But it just will not play many movies, and HD particularly bad. I mainly use Kodi (XBMC), but have tried VLC and MPC. All fail at the same points or close in the different players. I assumed corrupt files but when I copy them to other drives then play them they work .

So, I ran chkdsk I: /f /r . It ran thru quickly saying no issues. Every indicator has shown the drive as healthy. I ran the zero out option with a format in Partition Wizard. Didn't help. Frustrated last night I decided to run chkdsk I: /r one last time. It hung at 10%, and thinking maybe its doing something, I left it, but it was going for nearly 24 hours. I finally cancelled the chkdsk and ran a surface test with Partition Wizard and now after an hour or so, I am getting some bad blocks a... Read more

Hi,
Just bought a 500GB USB powered drive to transfer files between PC and PS3.
Worked fine on the PC, not on the PS3.
Checked the Seagate help ... aha, it's preformatted as NTFS.
I'm very non-technical, but I know I need FAT32 for the PS3.
Tried to right-click on the drive in My Computer and reformat, but NTFS is the only option.
What's the easiest way to do this please?
Many thanks.

P.S. I have both XP and Vista on separate PC's if the instructions vary between them ... cheers.

Answer:Formatting Seagate expansion portable drive to FAT32

Ok, scrap that, I found the FAT32format utility from Ridgecrop which worked fine.

I received the above hard drive today from play.com and immediately started formatting the drive but rather than doing a "quick format" i proceeded with the standard format but i started at 15.00 today and it was still formatting at 20.00 tonight, i also noticed a burning smell coming from the power cable or USB cable from the rear of the external drive.I cancelled the formatting as it was taking too long and proceeded with a "quick format" due to the burning smell and the drive formatted straight away.Is it normal for a ext hard drive to take so long to do a standard format? Is the burning smell normal as it was running for several hrs?Should i return the ext hard drive to play.com for a replacement? as the returns policy states that i need to pay for P&P and if they dont find any faults they will return item to me and i will be liable for the costs of P&P again.

Answer:Seagate Expansion 500GB External USB Desktop Hard

Very often a new external hard drive comes already formatted, but if not, then only a quick format should be used.

I am looking at a Seagate to back up my Acer but am unsure of compatibility seeing as my Acer only has USB 2 ports and Seagate has a USB 3 plug. Can anyone help here please?

Answer:Acer Veritron N281G and Seagate Expansion 2TB Port...

USB3.0 is backward compatible, so you can plug it to USB or USB2.0 ports too but the speed will be at the port rate (so USB2.0)

Have joined to see if i can get some assistance, noticed others have done this with success.

I have a seagate 1TB expansion Hard Drive which was firstly coming up with I/O error and now the computer doesnt even register that its connected dispite connection noises from the drive itself on usb connection.

I have read through various topics and forums and carried out a number of the checks and processes to run through but still without success.

I have tried this on other laptops and issue is exactly the same. I have another Buffulo expansion drive which is working fine in all USB ports. The system is windows Vista and upgraded to service pack 2. I have cleaned up existing USB drivers on system also.

When disk management is opened the system doesnt read the drive is connected. There is no excessive noises coming from drive but lights on and small amount of heat is given off.

Needing help as i use drive to back up important photos and files dont want them lost. Can anyone help please?

Answer:Seagate expansion hard drive not showing on computers

Sounds like the drive has failed as you had been getting warning signs with the I/O errors and now it has stopped working. There is a possibility that it is just the circuitry in the housing so you may be able to get it going again with a new housing. You could first test the drive by removing it from the housing and hooking it up to the internal connections of a desktop PC or by using a USB adapter.

Hey, wondering if someone can help

Bought my new external hard drive and put a load of my files onto it with no problem at all, but today, on the second time of using it, I plugged it in and it seems to be working because the green light is on and the icon to eject is there, but its not showing in My Computer.

I've seen people saying about the Disk Management and changing the name or path.... so when I open up that window, the disk is not named, when I right click on it, everything is greyed out apart from Help and Delete Volume options.

I've tried uninstalling the drive under the Device Manager and re-installing it again. but that doesn't work either.

I have tried this on my 2 laptops, PB and HP, and it is exactly the same on both. Both run windows 7 64-bit.

Hope Someone is able to help me out a bit, Thanks Lynne.

I've got a Seagate Expansion drive connected to my PC using a USB A - USB 3.0 micro B cable.
I'm unable to find any "Safely remove" option, and at one point when unsafely removing I got a blue screen.
I've tried:

The tray. Nothing there.Running "rundll32 shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll", and the drive does not show up there.Looking in device manager. There it shows under "Disk drives" as "Seagate Expansion SCSI Disk Device" and I see that under "Storage controllers" I've got a "USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device".If I on the device go right click, "Properties", "Hardware", select it, "Properties", "Policies" it has no "Removal policy" options. Only "Write-caching policy" options.
How do I make Windows understand/handle this drive as an external drive that can be safely removed?

Hi to all

Seagate Model: SRD00F2
Win 7 home prem... 64bit

I have had this external for over a year and it just recently started to respond very slow.

My aim is to save all the media files before this drive dies out or even solve the problem. Maybe it wont die out yet but never know what may happen. I have an older external and that still works.
When i plug the usb into laptop and other pcs, the drive used to appear quickly but now what happens is it appears in device manager/disk drives first but does not appear in my computer window. It takes a long while for the drive icon to appear. It normally shows also in disk management before it shows up in my computer window.
Next step is when its finally showing... when i go into the external it takes a long while again to enter the drive. The address bar turns green from left to right but moving very slowly as the external tries to open each folder.

I dont want to format or lose any data, its the first time i came across this problem. I brought a new usb cable and that did not solve the matter.

When it loads the files and folders, im trying to copy all the files to desktop to save everything. But the transfer speed is like below 10kb. Its very slow. The fastest its been is just over 1MB.

Another tip is when i plug in the cable.. the blue light turns on and the drive starts spinning and can hear the sound. I thought the drive seemed ok but maybe the proffesional guys on here will have a better understanding on how to... Read more

Answer:Seagate Expansion Desktop Drive 3tb responding extremely slow

I recently upgraded to windows 10. I purchased a 5TB Seagate External to back up my computer, and Windows is telling me there is not enough disk space for me to back up 900Gigs. Seems a bit odd.  I have tried everything I can think of, but still I get
the "BackUp Failed " error message.

The computer says the drive has 4.54 TB unused, but still not enough space for backup and system image?  What gives?

Please help.

It is on a computer running XP SP3. Now, it shows up in ?My Computer? but with no statistics and I cannot open it. The drive does not show up in Windows Disk Management. I have gone thru the Seagate website's ?External Drive Trouble Shooter for WinDOWS xp/2000? as well as contacting Seagate Support with no success. I have tried Windows Format, DOS Format, Seatools for Windows, HD LFF Low Level Format, testdisk_win, and Disk Wizard with no success. The drive showed up but they all reported failure in testing and/or accessing the disk. Seatools for DOS sounds like it would do the trick but it didnotrecognizeeitherofmyexternaldrives, theotheroneofwhichisworking. Can anyone recommend a fix? Seems to me that it is a software problem, not a hardware problem, so there should be a software solution. I have very limited funds and can't afford to replace the drive right now. It is used as a backup drive so loss of the data on the drive is not an issue. I'll just run another backup when the drive is restored to health. My boot drive is not backed up on this drive, so that is not a problem.

Hi, trying to reformat a laptop and a re-install Windows XP. Getting the "unable to delete extended partitions while logical drives exist" message in Fdisk, but all logical drives have been erased.I don't know what make of HDD the laptop has, but am I safe to use the Seagate Disk Wizard Starter Edition to erase/zerofill the drive ready for XP to go back on?Thanks.

Answer:Using Seagate Starter Disc on Non-Seagate drive,

Might not be a good idea, as all it does is little more than FDISK or Windows XP Setup. Yes, Windows XP Setup. Simply pop the CD in the drive, restart the laptop (to boot from the CD) and it will give you a screen allowing you to choose your partitions and filing systems. For safety, use NTFS file systems. When you press the Continue key (F9 I think), it will then re-partition and format your drives for you!Howzat?

Question: Expansion

How do I expand my C drive??..Here is a pic of disk management..

Answer:Expansion

25GB is the recommended disk space for a window 8 consumer preview install, your C: drive just isn't big enough unless you wipe your OS that's all ready on it and you wouldn't want to do that, only install windows 8 on a test machine or as dual boot install in my opinion.

It looks like you have enough space on your E: drive where you could create a 25GB blank partition and then you could install Windows 8 consumer preview there, if not then get another or bigger hard drive.

You could also make a ghost image of your C: drive, get a bigger C: hard drive, reghost your C: drive back onto the new bigger hard drive and then create a blank partition on it of 25GB or bigger and install windows 8 there, that's above my head though and could be kind of hard to do.

Question: RAM Expansion

Hi - After mentioning a RAM upgrade to either my PC or Laptop, I have been given the money for Xmas, on condition that I buy the upgrade.I don't know which one would be most beneficial and would appreciate the advice:My Laptop is a Tosh Equium A60 - and has 2x256mb RAM installed, minus 64MB shared RAM for graphics. The system runs XP Home and is used for Word Processing and the Internet. My PC is a HP Pavillion a708.uk, and has 1x512MB RAM installed with a spare slot for another. Like the laptop it is mainly used for Word Processing and the occasional low-end game, as this one has a separate 64MB graphics card installed. Both are used for almost the same thing, however, the laptop runs slower than the PC, and this can be a minor inconvenience when using on-line resources such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw.Any ideas would be appreciated, as if I don't buy the RAM, I loose the money...

Answer:RAM Expansion

I can't see you needing more than 512 minus 64 in the laptop if it's just used for word processing and general surfing. Stick it in the PC would be my choice, as maybe you will use it for more RAM demanding purposes in the future.

Question: ide expansion

have 4 ide devices on my home pc. I have heard of ide expansion cards that allow additional devices to be added (I have 2hd's and a cd and cdrw) I would like to put the cdrw on its own port. Can anyone explain how this works - or point me in a direction where I can find the necessary info.
thankx

Answer:ide expansion

Yes- An IDE Controller card will add 4 additional device capapbility- one I am familiar with called Promise Ultra 100, TX2- but there are others. Use any search engine for "IDE Controller Cards" should get you needed info. Installing the Promise Ultra 100 is fairly easy if you follow instructions. You may not have any spare IRQ's with 4 devices already. Should be some information in the search articles about this. Cost is around $25 at most PC supply sites. Bought one at computer show for $23. Most use PCI slot- sure you have one that is free- and not the shared slot.
When installed, they show up as a SCSI device.

Answer:expansion

No mate it wont, SATA built onto the boad runs at 150 ATA theoretically but the add in cards are still limited by the PCI bus which impose the same limit as IDE chips so the most you would get would be 133, personally I never found a difference with SATA built in until I put 2 drives in a raid stripe.

Is there a maximum sd card size you can expand the rt tablets to? Surface or other tablets? I bought a 64 GB crd on sale but I want to make sure a win 8 rt tablet can support it.

Answer:Micro SD Expansion Max

San Disk 64gig is as big as I've found and RT will support it with no problems. I've heard sdxc is capable of 128gig and there are some out there, but I haven't found them in the micro size. Technically sdhc is up to 32gig, but I've heard about a few people using 64gig cards if it is formatted right. Don't hold me to that. Search forums for more info.

Question: RAID 5 Expansion

Hi,

I have a Compaq Proliant 1600 running Windows NT 4.0 server and 2 logical drives on a raid 5 array.

I have just added a new 9.1GB disk (same as the other 5) and run the Compaq array config utility. This has happily added the new disk to the array and restripped the data. However, NT isn't showing any more free disk space.

I had this happen when I added the 5th disk and I know I had to do something else to get NT to see the extra space, but I don't remember what.

Anyone got any ideas?

Many thanks

Answer:RAID 5 Expansion

My only experience with a Compaq RAID-5 array was that 5 drives was the maximum it would manage, the 6th was simply a spare that hung around until one of the other drives failed. I may be off-base here, since it's been awhile since I worked with the Compaq server, just an observation.

Question: A730 expansion

The documentation that came with the machine is inadequate to determine what upgrades are possible:  I have a recent vintage A730 with 8 GB, 1TB HD, no SSD, has BD, but no TV. I read contradictory advice on the web that it has 2 vs 4 memory slots and can accommodate only 16 vs 32 GB SDRAM.  I don't know if there are two bays allowing adding an SSD or if the HD has to come out to make room for it.  I have never seen one for sale with the tv tuner, much less how to order one and add it.  I am not ready to open the case yet to find out what is really in it.  I donno if anyone ahs cloned the OS to an SSD trouble free. Can I upgrade to 4 DIMMs?  Add a TV Tuner?  Clone Win 8.1 to an SSD..... and run faster?  Thanks, srd

Answer:A730 expansion

Let's try again.  I found the hardware manual online, and its clear there is a regular HD slot and an mSATA slot.  There are 2 memory DIMMs, not 4. So I could add an mSATA to hold the mostly read-only OS and application programs leaving the HD for data often rewritten so as to extend the SSD life. I see that someone here installed a Crucial M500, but I plan to keep this for several years and would rather have the OS on the mSATA.  The case is not drilled for the TV RF input, so nevermind that.  Not sure how to get HiFi audio out to speakers either without sacrifice of the HDMI out that was going to drive my second 27" IPS monitor. So now the question is without a Windows install disk, how do I install the apps and OS to the mSATA drive?  Is this risky? Any advice appreciated except more of none.  Maybe I should return this for the B750.

Recently my company bought 6 of these A57 workstations.  For day to day work they are fine, however we have tried inserting a video capture card AND several second NIC cards and none of the machines recognise the existance of any inserted PCI board.  Does anyone have any ideas why this may be so?   Marky

Answer:A57 PCI expansion problem

Marky, welcome to the forum, it would be helpful if you could post which A57 systems you have as there are several different versions. Please post the Type and Model Number this will help members to help you. If it ends in CTO please provide some details about it. Please do NOT post your s/n.  Thanks

Alright, so I've basically installed everything and patched it and have the CD in the drive but when I start up the game, the game's logo shows up and then it suddenly goes.... "Age of Empires II expansion has Stopped working..." blah blah blah. I've ran some old games and they worked I don't know why AoE II doesn't....

Tried Compatibility Windows 98 and XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1 *No idea why*
Tried reinstalling both of them, patched them already, my anti-virus doesn't interfere with it or anything, tried running in 256 colours and still crashes, also ran as Administrator and it doesn't work..

Can anyone help me?

Specs: Intel Core 2 Quad 6600, 4gigs of memory, nVidia 9500 GT 256mb and Home Vista Premium x64/x86 and current Monitor settings is 1680 by 1050
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...mer/tskmgr.jpg
Also this is my Task Manager, i don't think any of those interfere with it running the game..

Answer:Age of Empires II and Expansion

After reading your post I tried to start my old installation of AoE2 (on storage-HD) and it did run perfect. The basic game (empires2.exe) as well as the expansion (age2_x1/age2_x1.exe) required only the acceptal of the EULA (license and stuff) since I didn't installed the game properly on Vista. But everything else worked fine. So it may be a problem with your version of Vista or maybe even the system.

I had some troubles recently with older games because the programs had insufficient rights to access files... try "run as administrator" on the empires2.exe (not the shortcut), but that's only a vague guess...
Good luck!

Hello,

I really enjoy this new laptop. Only having this problem with memory expansion.
It currently has a M2 256gb SSD built in, and I want a 2,5'' 500gb HDD in it aswell.
Therefor I need a bracket.
I have found a picture of this bracket, add in attachments.
Found on the following site (picture 4/8): http://laptopmedia.com/highlights/in...grade-options/
In this picture is no M2 slot to be seen.
Looks like only one of these posibilties has been add into the laptop.

Question is; where can I find this bracket, so I can add more memory to my laptop?

Greetings

Hi, I need to expand the RAM memory on my laptop, it is a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-18E i5.
How can I do that? Do I send my laptop to some technical support office or can I do it myself?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:RAM expansion on Satellite L50-B-18E

Hi

According notebook specification your notebook was offered with 4GB of RAM but it can be upgraded up to 16GB.

Compatible RAM modules for your machine are:
2GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M2G
4GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M4G
8GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M8G

Unfortunately this notebook model doesn't have memory cover placed at the bottom side so I think memory upgrade by notebook owner is not supported. Theoretically you can do this alone but if you remove some hardware components this will cancel the warranty so I think you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Memory modules you can obtain on your own and just ask service to put it in the place. I cannot imagine it will be expensive.

Question: memory expansion

I have an ACER aspire 5733.  It came with both memory slots filled, one DIMM0 with a Kingston DDR3 1024mb PC3-10700 (667 MHz) and the other, DIMM1 with a Kingston DDR3 4096 MBytes PC3-10700 (667 MHz).  I'd like to replace the smaller one with another 4gb stick so that it performs a little better, and is more likely to cope with Windows 10, but I can't work out how to idenitfy the right one to buy. Which specification is most important to match. Is the Mhz important ?  Some UK sites don't quote a mhz number on what seem to be the right sticks.  how do I work out what pin I need? any help most welcome

According to the specs for the Slimline 260-a010, it uses a Geneva-P motherboard.  The HP supplied specs on that board show one expansion slot , a One M.2 socket 1, key A.  I have looked all over that board and can not find an expansion slot of any kind.I am trying to find a schematic of that board to check on a possible slot that I can not see.  Can anyone help with any information on the Geneva-P motherboard?  Thanks!

Answer:k410 hdd expansion

hi prowlus,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

The Lenovo K410 has an optional mSATA to SATA Converter Board which you can insert an mSATA SSD (see spoiler). Open your chassis (see page 25-26 of the hardware maintenance manual) to verify if you have this expansion.
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If you don't have this converter board, your best bet is to get a 2.5 SATA SSD like this one that you can mount on the HDD bay.

Hope this helps

Question: HP Expansion Base

I have a HP pavillon dv4000 laptop. I recently bought a HP xb2000 Notebook Expansion Base. On the box it says it would be compatible with my laptop if it has a a Expansion Port 2. I dont believe my laptop has this accessory because the plug doesnt look anything like the ports on my laptop. I was wondering if there is another accessory i can buy so that this expansion base will work with my laptop. The wireless keyboard and mouse obviously work but i can buy that anywhere and save a lot more money. Does anyone know if i can buy another accessory to make this base work? i would GREATLY appreciate it!!

Answer:HP Expansion Base

expansion port 2 is not an accessory, it is a connector soldered onto the motherboard, if you'rs doesn't have it then you're out of luck

if your's has it... the expansion port will be on the left side of the laptop

First off, in my computer I had (prior to RAM expansion) one stick of 512 MB DDR PC3200 (or so I am told by AIDA32 and PCU-Z). When I got my second stick of 512 MB the guy at Futureshop tried to insert a PC3200 speed stick but the computer rejected it on boot, so he told me that my computer has one stick of PC2700 already in it (not PC3200, even though AIDA32 and CPU-Z say it is PC3200) and so he put in another stick of PC2700. Now, according to CPU-Z and AIDA32 (two programs that display information on all your computer hardware etc.) I have in my two slots my one, original stick of PC3200 and my new stick of PC2700 that the guy at the store claimed matched my old stick.

Now to the problem. I am playing games such as Half-Life 2 (and Counter-Strike: Source), Rome: Total War, and Battlefield 2 on my computer, and they were not performing very well at 512 MB (hence my choice to expand). Since I have had this stick added performance within these games has dropped (I am getting 10-15 FPS in CS:S). Could this decrease be due to the difference in speeds of my RAM (PC3200 - PC2700), and, if so, does anyone know why my computer would have rejected a new stick of PC3200 when the original in there is of that speed?

I just installed windows xp on this machine for a clean wipe. I dont have the original drivers disks or anything. I've been doing just fine until trying to get the expansion slots working. I have the riser plugged into the board and downloaded the driver: Intel chipset software installation (INF) utility - 3000 J100, J110, J200, S200 / ThinkCentre A52, A55, M52, M52e, M55, M55e, M55p, M57, M57poff of lenovo's website. However they still wont recognize the Belkin desktop wireless card that I'm trying to install. The card doesn't even light up implying its receiving power. However it works in my other computer just fine. When I use the device manager it seems to recognize there is someting there but the drivers are missing. I try to direct it to the folder where they extract to and no luck either. Any suggestions?
