Last day for promo pricing on Windows 8 and Media Center Pack

Question: Last day for promo pricing on Windows 8 and Media Center Pack

Last day to get it for $43 and change after taxes (that's what I paid anyways).
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/buy?ocid=SHOP_SOC_FB_FPPApps_Null_Null_Null

If you want Windows Media Center on your Windows 8 upgrade (Windows 8 Pro) you have until the end of the day to get it for free. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/feature-packs You can get the license for free even if you don't yet have Windows 8 installed. You just need a valid email address. I believe it's going to be around $35 after today, Jan. 31, 2013.

So if you're on the fence make up your mind already!!!! :major:major:seeya:zzz

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just wondering if this has happened to any of you...
I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 with no problem. Then I realized that the Media Center Pack is missing (when I looked under Systems). So I clicked on "Add Features to Windows" and put in the activation code that I got back when they gave out free Media Center Pack. Then after reboot, my computer suddenly says "Windows is not activated" and apparently the old Media Center product key overwrote the original Windows 8 product key. And I have tried my old Windows 8 product key and it doesn't work anymore.
I already called Windows product support today but he wasn't very helpful. I am gonna call tomorrow to the activation center and ask for help there...

Answer:Media Center Pack killed my Windows 8.1 Activation!

That's really weird. I had Media Center installed on Windows 8 Pro, and Media Center still works after the upgrade to 8.1.

I've had my laptop for about a month now and when I first got it I did something (and I don't remember what at the moment) that said I needed to add the media center pack. Anyway, whatever I did said I needed to get a license key for the media pack. Well, Microsoft just emailed me my key today but I don't really know what to do with it. How do I go about installing the media pack so I can enter the key?

Answer:Question about adding Windows 8 Media Center Pack to my PC

Hello Brian,

Since you already have your Media Center key, you could use step 2 in the tutorial below to add Media Center.

Answer:HP Windows Media Center Edition Service Pack 2 Computer Help!?

Hi Mayur,

I'm assuming you cannot hear any beep(s) whatsoever when you start the computer.

I wish I had something positive to say but I'm afraid you may have destroyed the motherboard completely. For some reason when you flashed the bios with the update something went wrong. Either the bios file is corrupt, or the procedure wasn't done properly, or you lost power while flashing.

if something goes wrong during flashing the bios its usually game over for the motherboard.

Theres only one thing you can try - clear the CMOS (that means resetting the bios in effect):

You should refer to the motherboard manual on how to clear the CMOS. Every motherboard should have this feature. You just change a jumper setting for five seconds on the motherboard.

If you do not have the motherboard manual, and cannot find it online (try the manufacturers web site support section) then you can try the workaround way:

Disconnect the computer from the power source (very important!)
Remove the small button/watch battery from the motherboard for five minutes
In the meantime, keep you finger on the power button for at least 15 seconds.
After five minutes replace the battery
Plug the power back in and other leads etc.

Try it after clearing the CMOS. Fingers crossed it will work but I'm afraid theres less than about 25% chance of this working.

Worst case scenario is a new motherboard needed, which would mean a fesh install of Windows too - anything on the drive will need ... Read more

Microsoft has released Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008 to manufacturing in mid-July 2008, and the problems have already begun to emerge for the Windows media Center update. The Redmond company indicated that on machines with Windows Media Center TV Pack installed, following the finalization of the "Set up TV" process, users of the Home Premium and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista RTM and SP1, could find it impossible to search for television content.

"Assume that you are running Windows Media Center TV Pack on a Windows Vista-based computer. When you try to search for television content by using an element such as the title, a keyword, an actor, or a director, you may not receive any results. If you run the search immediately after you finish the "Set up TV" process, this is the expected behavior because the indexing process takes some time. However, even about four hours after the "Set up TV" process is complete, you may still be unable to search for television content," Microsoft informed.

The Redmond giant is not offering a resolve at this point in time, outside of delivering mitigations to help users deal with the issue. "This problem occurs when a Windows Media Center request to index the search root of the Media Center Guide is dropped," the company explained. And in order to resolve it, Vista Home Premium and Ultimate users can either upgrade to Windows Search 4.0 or re-index the search root in Windows Searc... Read more

After I "refreshed" the PC with Windows 8.1, the taking off the applications also malfunctioned & misconfigured, the Windows Media Center from downloading the guide listings and is "stripped" of (functionality) from prior usage. I
now need to replace Windows Media Center on my PC. I use a USB TV Tuner to watch programs with a digital antenna.
Is there a way to uninstall the Windows Media Center, to "re-use" the (product key) that came with the Windows 8.1 Pro pack, and reinstall Windows Media Center for "full" functionality?

Answer:Windows 8.1 pro pack with Windows Media Center is misconfigured after a refresh the PC.

Hi,
First make sure your Windows 8.1 is not upgraded from Windows 8. Windows 8 key cannot be used to activate in this case.

Try uninstall the Windows media center from Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off > Media Features > Windows Media Center.
At the command prompt I used the "slui.exe 3" command to re-activate windows. If still cannot be activated, use slui.exe 4 and follow the instructions as mentioned.

After several system restores, my Windows Media Center now has a "scratching"sound at audio when opening the program. WMC is not on the (programs & features) list to uninstall the program, to reinstall at (add features to Windows 8.1). I have
a screenshot of the (error) message with (search everywhere) on the PC. Since this is a audio problem, I figure its time to update the driver. But I also figure after (3) system restores, some files are "missing" from the WMC program.
Question: Is there a way to uninstall/reinstall the WMC program to reset (add features to Windows 8.1), to reuse the product key?
I can't refresh the WMC, it will stay on since its from the Windows Store of APP's. That just leaves a total OS reset to rebuild "all" programs for time consuming tasks. I guess its just my day.

Nothing official from Microsoft

Quote:
When it comes down to Windows 7 special offerings, Microsoft still has one or two aces up its sleeve. While it revealed the official pricing details for the upgrade and full retail boxes of Windows 7, and went live with a program designed to allow consumers in select markets to buy the Home Premium and Professionals SKUs of the OS at considerable discounts, the Redmond company has yet to unveil discount initiatives and price tags for additional offerings and flavors of the next iteration of the Windows client. This is the case with the Windows 7 Family Pack and the Windows Anytime Upgrade options. But even with Microsoft keeping a tight lid on the Windows 7 Family Pack and WAU pricing, company partners from the retail channel have made sure to leak the prices to the public.

Quick question in preparation for a rebuild of a pc.

I have a Windows 8 serial key from initial purchase plus a Media Center pack key which enabled the media center feature afterwards.

When I reinstall do i use the media center pack key as my activation key
OR do I do the same again, initial W8 licence key + activate media pack afterwards with separate key?

Answer:Reinstall with Media Center pack.

Activate with your Windows key then add Media Center.

You might want to consider installing 8.1 - you can activate it with your 8 key and it will save upgrading. Method 3 here describes how to get the ISO Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create

Hi all,

Here's the issue... I have TV Pack 2008 installed on my nice, flash Windows Vista Ultimate 64 OS that I, as a loyal Microsoft customer, paid them handsomely for (can you tell I have a gripe about TV Pack - essentially an upgrade to make Media Center provide the same basic teletext/interactive functionality as a ?20 set-top box, yet unavailable to the masses as a simple Windows Update?).

In theory, Media Center should now be great, finally giving me basic (but useful) DVB-T features such as subtitles, interactive services and teletext.

First and foremost, I'm in the UK receiving Freeview on 2 Hauppauge Nova-T PCI cards and a single Nova-T Diversity USB stick set on 'twin tuner' mode, therefore giving me 4 DVB-T tuners (transmitter: Bluebell Hill in Kent, in case that helps). I've also installed a beta driver for the Diversity stick which resolves a problem where all channels provided by Channel 4 somehow inherit additional sources which don't physically exist (eg list sources for Channel 4 / E4 / More4 etc, and I get 8, sometimes 12 tuners, when I only have 4)!

So, I thought everything would be resolved, particularly considering I've also installed all currently available upgrades to the TV Pack, including one released in the last couple of weeks, but it's not.

Here's an issue which has dogged my installation since day one, and the reason behind me re-installing Vista yet again...

* I install Vista.

* I install TV Pack 2008 and all related software inclu... Read more

Microsoft had long used Zap2It as provider of program guide data for Windows Media Center, but recently switched to Rovi, causing much distress among WMC users: View topic - Media Center EPG Cutover. It appears that issues are slowly being resolved for WMC users running Windows 7 and 8, but it also appears that those running Vista are being left in the lurch. If any Vista user reading this is able to get WMC guide data at this time, then please post here and tell us about it.

If you are running Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, then you have WMC, and your PC might have shipped with a TV tuner card installed. It is well known that the Windows 7 version of WMC has many features that were lacking in the Vista version, but few are aware that Microsoft developed an upgrade for the Vista version that made it nearly the equivalent of W7MC. That's because Microsoft chose to release TV Pack 2008 via OEM only - which is why I'm posting this in the Software forum instead of Windows Updates. If you wish to read more about it, a good article is Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008: The Unofficial User's Guide | PCMag.com.

I'm a software historian (aren't we all?), and wanted to install TV Pack 2008 for purposes of academic research. It cannot be downloaded from Microsoft; but the internet being what it is, a download can perhaps be found elsewhere if one is determined. Of course downloading Windows components from third-party sources is generally not to be recommended! Before beginning my re... Read more

Hello everyone. So I just got the Xbox 360 COD special edition. I'm checking out all my features on the Xbox. There's an option to somehow connect your computer to your Xbox. The requirement is to go through the Media Center. Well, first time starting up the Media Center on my computer, and I'm not able to get the Media Center to open. I receive an error right on startup of the program. It ends up generating a crash report, and closes. I've take 2 screenshots of the error. The first screenshot is of the first error that comes up upon opening the Media Center. The second screenshot is of another error I get when I choose to cancel instead of clicking ok on the first error. I thought getting the most information to you guys would be the best.

I run Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2005 Service Pack 3.

Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks a lot

Purchased an HP Spectre X360 512ssd, 16gb a few weeks ago.  Model 13-W0xx.  Really like it! Is it worth it to get an HP Care Pack?  This is my first HP laptop.  I've had Dell and Lenovo prior to this. Also..which one? In my HP Support Assistant, it recommends an HP 2 Year w/Accidental Care, #U9ED4A for around $60. When I go to the HP Care Pack web-site, though, they list three plans specifically for the Spectre, that range from $170-190 for 2 years or 3 years (example: U9EE2A). Obviously, $60 seems like a better deal, and I was assuming that the HP Support Assistant on my laptop would be recommended the correct plan, but it seems like it could be wrong. Also, I heard that if you don't use it, they refund the price of the plan.   Anyone try that?  Have they really refunded you?

I know its media center as if you go to properties of my computer it says media center, and it is from my buddy who has an MSDN sub, I watched him DL it for me from the MSDN site.
Its legit and updates and everything, its not a pirated copy or anything shady. I want to use media center for TV/video/music, but its just NOT THERE I have re-installed and everything.

SO... Any thoughts?

Is it because the PC doesnt have a TV card?
Is it the 512megs ram? (I will be upgrading, in a month or so)

i've decided to go ahead and reinstall w8pro given my extensive messing around with it has finally caused some quirky, unexpected results - it's a relatively new installation, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle, didn't get a chance to install a lot of third party programs and such. the thing is, i did purchase and install the w8 media center pack - how do i go about getting this back? do i have to contact ms? i'm fairly certain that i don't have an activation number for the pack, if i recall i just paid for it online and then was allowed to download it and install it.

also, i thought i would go ahead and do a clean install all over again as opposed to a reset or refresh given i want to make certain that i'm starting from scratch again... or do you think a reset or refresh might be the better option (i'm not concerned about keeping any personal settings or files intact). any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

Still trying to figure out what it is that keeps waking up my computer from sleep.

The system has returned from a low power state.
Sleep Time: ‎2015‎-‎08‎-‎30T03:12:34.409741300Z
Wake Time: ‎2015‎-‎08‎-‎30T03:30:51.010471500Z

What I don't understand is why is mcupdate waking the computer if Media Center was removed from Windows 10.

But more importantly how do I stop this from happening?

Life in my house is becoming more unpleasent by the moment, because mommy can't fix Jake Long the American Dragon. AHHHH, I want to be able to configure Media Center or Media Player to show info on a video, ie rating, genre, thumbnail of cover, that type of thing. I would like to set it up to be as easy as possible to use, point and clink. So my little girl can get to her stuff visually. I spent hours on the phone with HP and they said I needed a file converter. Well I tried that and I'm only making a mess of things. There has got to be a way. I have to be doing something simple wrong. I did the search and it seemed to find the files but didn't add any of them. This is really driving me nuts. I can't believe that I would have to convert itunes files to play in the media center. Not to mention every other file type I have. Which I have no idea. It seems most are *.VOB but this thing won't add any of my video files, not home recorded dvd stuff, not itunes, not backup dvds. Please tell me what I'm do... Read more

Answer:windows media center and media player

I am a mature adult, have been messing with computers for about 10 years and I find Windows Media Player to be a complex pile of dookie. So it's no surprise that the preschooler is perplexed.

The freeware alternative I use Media Player Classic, which is much simpler and does a fine job of doing both video and audio.

Download here

Also, download & install the Klite Video Codec Pack, which will allow you to run DivX, Xvid and any other video format you might want.

On my previous installation of Windows 8.1 Pro N, I lost some functionality when I wiped the device, this was found to be due to some drivers interacting with WMP and in the end I needed to download the Media Pack which worked out to be the solution.

Now I'm on Windows 10 N, and I can't find any Media Pack equilivilent. Is there one out yet?

I've tried installing the Windows 8.1 Media Pack but to no avail.

Answer:Windows 10 N Media Pack?

Hi Txanquility Windows Media Center has been discontinued in Windows 10, hence why you won't be able to find any of it's features anymore. For more information, consult the link below.http://www.zdnet.com/article/rip-windows-media-center/

It caught me off guard. I did not get the news that the Media Pack for Windows 8.1 Pro would be discontinued at the end of October, which is now. I planned to make several installs after having verified earlier this month October that the Media Pack was available from Microsoft. Now I am burnt. I have been using the Media Center from Windows XP, Vista and 7. It's gone now in 8.1 !

HELP. Can anyone direct me to a source where I can buy a few copies, please. In the alternative has anyone tried to set it up manually ?

Any help much appreciated.

Answer:Where to buy now the Media Pack for Windows 8.1 Pro ?

You cannot, because it has been discontinued. There are better Media Center software out there.

Compared with some I've read, my issue may seem trivial, but, whenever I use Windows Media Center to play music, and click to activate the Visualizations, a gray box attaches itself to the bottom of the screen, with the album title inside.

There is no visualization playing. I can see the albums when looking at the library, and everything else seems to work ok, but this is annoying.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:media center visualizations don't play in Media Center

Hi GraphicsGuy, An annoying issue is still an annoying issue. Have you tried turning the visualizations on in:Tasks>Settings>Music>Visualizations ?

I'm not sure if this is the right place, feel free to move it to the right board....A couple of months ago I had some problems with my computer and I went and restored it to factory settings.  It fixed the problem that I was having, however, now I cannot use my Media Center any more.  Now whenever I open it, I get this message:COMPONENT REGISTRATION FAILURESome of the files needed to play radio or video are missing or corrupt.  Media Center component registration may have failed.I then push OK and get this:CRITICAL PROCESS FAILUREA critical Media Center process has unexpectedly failed.  If problems persist, please restart your machine and try again, or contact technical support.  Code: 3Also, I cannot get it to close unless I restart my computer.I was just wondering if, when I reset my computer if it messed up the files for it.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  Should I reset it back to factory settings again? Thanks!

The problem probably lies in the restore process itself...since no updates or addons are retained all you may have to do is DLoad and install the .net framework version1.1.Info Here

I have been searching the internet for a download link for a codec pack that matches Windows Media Player 11. What I have in mind is a "twin" pack like K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 3.9.0 for Media Player Classic 6. I did try installing K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 3.9.0 but it installed Media Player Classic 6 as well and my Secunia reacted very strongly saying that Media Player Classic was highly insecure. I would be very grateful for a tip or a download link. Thanks in advance. :cool

Answer:Codec Pack for Windows Media Player 11?

Hi

Codec Packs at times can be troublesome, and indeed using the older MediaPlayer Classic will flag up in Secuni PSI as unsecure, due to it not being current version, but you can still use Media Player Classic with no issues.

I would first off not try and combine two Codec packs as you may end up with some conflicts in the codec files themselfs, but only use one and the one I use and would recomend is Vista Codec Package ( works on both Vista and XP )

But make sure you uninstall all previous installed Codec packs first.

I am still not able to play blu rays after installing the free media pack offered when I bought the retail version of windows 8 Pro. I am pretty sure I successfully installed and was under the impression that I would not need any additional software to play blu rays in media center, but when I try playing them it says I have no blu ray capable software installed. DVDs play fine.

I am really not liking Windows 8 so far although I do find it very fast when it's not making you waste your time trying to relearn everything, so if someone can please just tell me how to play blu rays, I can tick that off my list and get back to trying to make Windows 8 behave like Windows 7 as much as possible. Thanks in advance.

No.

Media Feature Pack is only available for N editions of Windows desktop operating systems, for computers (desktops, laptops, notebooks, and tablets using full Windows 10 instead of Windows 10 Mobile).

Package Windows ProfessionalWMC Edition failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x80041313.

Package Windows Professional Edition failed to be changed to the Absent state. Status: 0x80041313.

A reboot is necessary before package KB2756872 can be changed to the Installed state.

Hi

When I try to open a program that uses the internet Windows Media Center pops up instead of the program I wish to open.
For example I can try to open Fire Fox and all that happens is that Windows Media Center opens. Also the icons for the programs have changed (Internet explorer, Skype,Fire fox - and so on).
I don't know how this happened -I share my computer with a lot of kids.

It's still possible for me to go on the internet by searching through all the programs in Windows and find the link to the webpage I went to prior to the problem, but I can't go online by shortcut.

Please help me.

You would have to install Media Center Edition from scratch because MCE is not available as an upgrade last I checked.

What exactly are you planning to do with this?

Good afternoon, Before I proceed with my narrative regarding my computer, I want to thank any one in advance for affording me his/her time. My computer is a HP Pavilion a1230n. It's operating system is Windows XP Media Center. Two days ago, I was doing a monthly maintenance on my computer with the help of two great programs: Revo Uninstaller Pro and Secunia PSI. Briefly, Secunia PSI helps me to identify which programs need to be updated or removed before they become security liabilities. Revo Un. Pro is much better version of Windows' "Add/Remove Programs." In any case, as I was updating programs, Secunia warned that I still had Norton anti-virus 2005 installed on my computer. I knew for a fact that I deleted it a long time ago. However, when I looked for the source of the folder, it was situated in I:386 (the recovery partition drive). I carefully proceeded to only delete the files that were associated with Norton anti-virus with Revo. After I was done, I restarted the computer. During the restart, after the Windows XP logo, a blue screen came on the screen, then "please wait..." was written. I thought that windows was installing an update before I log on; however, it restarted. During that restart, after the Windows XP logo, it took a few seconds, then my monitor went to sleep. I restarted multiple times only to receive the same result. I thought someth... Read more

Answer:help with windows xp media center

I am not an expert here (or anywhere else for that matter), but I can tell you that you WILL lose all your data and programs if you perform a re-install of windows. Also using someone else's cd may cause difficulties. You can purchase recovery cd's from hp as I did recently for ?35 (UK).
Have you tried F8 (safe mode) instead of F10? and do you press the button repeatedly at startup?
It's worth waiting a while to see if you can find a solution before re-installing, as it's a lot of work finding and re-installing all your favorite programs. It depends a bit how much you value what's on there.
best of luck.

Answer:Windows XP Media Center

It depends on the version of XP you currently have. Windows Retail (any flavor) can be transferred as described. Windows OEM (any flavor) is tied to the hardware it is first installed on.

You should be able to upgrade to MCE without a format.

Ok let me start by saying that I know this is an older software on an older system. However upgrading is not an option for the individuals computer I am working on.
The computer I am fixing is an E-Machine T5048, running:
Windows XP Media Center v. 2002 sp3
Intel p4 3.06 GHz with 448 RAM

The user wants to use Windows Media Center to play DVD's. Everytime a DVD is attempted to be played it recieves a standard Decoder error: The video decoder has malfunctioned or not been installed. Please restart Media Center or the Computer.

I have tried installing various freeware codecs and decoders online with no success. When I install a software such as Corel WinDVD 2010 it plays the DVD wonderfully, however this is not something the user wants to do, and Media Center still gives me the same error.

Can anyone offer a freeware suggestion for this problem?

Answer:Windows Media Center

Hmm. I thought Media Center came with a dvd decoder? well ,either way, it's not working correctly. I tend to always use a codec pack, so i don't need to find individual codecs. I prefer this one:
http://majorgeeks.com/CCCP_Combined_Community_Codec_Pack_d6093.html
It includes a dvd decoder and should integrate with media center.

Answer:HELP!!!!! windows media center

It sounds like some type of media file is constantly trying to open, and because Media Center is the default app for this file, Media Center continues to try to open regardless of whether or not it's removed from your msconfig list. You have to find out which file is calling up Media Center (and why) and either remove it or somehow stop it from doing what it's doing.... but... then again... I'm not a Vista guru (yet ) so I may be wrong, but it makes sense to me.... maybe take a look at the startup lists in the registry. Many items in the registry startup lists do not appear in the msconfig list.

Answer:Windows Media Center Help

You should be able to use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard and then pick and choose what you want to save/transfer to the new install. This can amount to a large amount of data that you will need to save to a flash drive, cd, etc. Once the new install is complete they you run the wizard again to transfer the files back.

Check where your downloads destination folder is, the file should be in there.

It sounds like you've got WMC set up as the default program for opening pdf's, to change this right click on the file and select "open with" find the program you want to open the pdf and select. Make sure the "always use the selected program to open this type of file" is ticked.

Any tips on using this pc ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00280666 ) to transfer vhs on the hard drive?

Answer:Windows Media Center & VHS to DVD

Use the coxial cable input as WinMCE doesn't allow switching the source. Then turn to channel three or four like you normally would to watch movies off the VCR, and press the record button.

If you wish to cut out parts, you'll need to use Dcut, which is freeware, http://www.inseattle.org/~dan/Dcut.htm
and accessable under "more programs" in MCE.

To burn the video to DVD's, you'll either need sonic-encoders (packaged with retail media center PC's) which shows up under "more programs" in MCE as "burn DVD/CD", or you'll need another burning application that supports MS-DVR files. The only burning application that I can think of, off the top of my head, that supports MS-DVR files is Nero burning rom. There are others, I just cant think of them now.

If you are one of those who have joined the Windows Insider program and installed trying out Windows 10 Technical Preview (TP), then you should not add Media Center product key. If you add then System Properties will show it as “Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center” and will say Windows is not activated. And not only this, using a purchased product key will also prevent you from getting updates and future builds for Windows 10 Technical Preview.
Microsoft in the Answers Community forum had replied in one of the queries: We apologize for not catching this before we launched Tech Preview; we did not intend for you to be able to use a purchased product key on a preview build. We do not recommend adding Media Center to Windows 10 Technical Preview as using a purchased product key will also prevent you from getting updates and future builds for Windows 10 Technical Preview. To make sure you get updates for Tech Preview, we recommend that you download the ISO file

I own a Windows Vista Ultimate computer, and I used to play my Xbox 360 on my old ATi computers TV tuner. To play it, I set the TV mode to composite. I recently got my TV onto my new Windows Vista Media Center, But I cannot play my 360 on it. Is there any way I can play on it, without buying a whole new TV tuner.

I have a friend from church who asked me a question last night @ VBS. He is using Media Center on a new computer he has had a couple of months. Every time he uses any of the MS-Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, etc.) His computer freezes up. Are there any known conflicts with Media Center and Office? Thank you my fellow geeks.

Answer:Windows Media Center

No, no conflicts that wouldnt be present in the non media center version.

Is it XP Media center? What version of Office? Does it freeze in Safe Mode?

I just got a brand new laptop that has windows vista home premium. It came with Windows Media Center.

My question is can I access my music from my XP desktop from this vista laptop. When I select watch folders from another computer on the network, it doesn't find any.

If it helps I have already set up my xbox 360 to get music from the xp desktop and it works perfectly.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows Media Center

I would suggest first placing some of your music in the Shared Music folder on the XP system. If you're able to access that music, then this is a permissions issue with your accounts. If not, then there's a lot of other stuff to try.

I hate asking so many questions but when you have questions, you have questions.

I was recently running my computer(Dell Inspiron, win 7) in safe mode and because I wanted to stay in safe mode that day and wanted to watch tv, I attempted to watch tv through windows media center... being in safemode, the program would not run... I was not able to watch tv...
Next time I opened media center in normal mode, it had gone from wide to full screen. I'm on a widescreem monitor so, it was a bit frustrating. If I stretch it enough to be as wide as the screen, the program wouldn't fit on the screen vertically.
I googled, briefly, how to change it back. One suggested holding control while resizing but that didn't work. I believe I saw some mention of playing with the registry but I haven't gone back to trying that. Was just wondering if there was a simple way to change it.
I'll probably head back to google in a day or two if someone doesn't get back to me. Too tired to this evening...

bump...  I have just kind of dealt with the problem so far and not let it bother me... but, it does a bit.
I want to clarify that the aspect ratio of what's playing is not off but the size/shape/ratio of the window is.  media center used to open up as widescreen so when you played something widescreen, it filled in the entire window.  These days windows media center, when I open it up rather than being a widescreen shaped rectangle, it's more square(the window itself) like full screen.  So when I play something widescreen, it displays the content at the correct aspect ratio but the window stays the wrong way.  So, in order to it display the widescreen content properly, you have bars above and below the content.  So... as I mentioned before, in order to have it take up more of my actual monitor screen, I'd have to stretch media center SO much that you could not see the top or bottom of the program.  This does not work when you want to move something around.
If I simply go into FULL screen it displays fine but I often prefer to have it as a window and not full screen.
I have right clicked and messed with the zoom options during playback...  I've gone into settings and made sure it's set on widescreen.  I've poked around a bit and tried googling and I just haven't found the answer I'm looking for so far.
Unless I find a simple solution......  I'm thinking, is media center a free download for win 7 users?  Perhaps I could sim... Read more

Windows Media Center
I have not used Windows Media Center because I was using Verizon Media Manager. Verizon is dropping support for Media Manager and I may have to employ Media Center to stream computer videos to my TV. But, I can't find Windows Media Center!
It is supposed to be on Vista Ultimate.
Can you tell me what the .exe is called and where to look for the .exe?
Thanks

ehrecvr is a pain in the seating area. I have tried stopping it with the task manager, it just re creates itself and I have to redo the settings as it won't recognis the tuner then.. I can deal with the excess usage by this programme 2 ways, allow it to run the searches for album covers, tv guides and etc, or tell media centre that my computer is not always connected. I would like to be able to use the TV function on the computer once or twice a month and have no need for any other Media Center functions. Is there a simple way to disable this file and still be able to use the tv when I want. I do this now, but I need to redo the settings each time I want to turn on the tv. I don't have another TV in the house so there is no alternative. Sort of long for the old days when you could just rem it in the config file.
