Well, I'm not very good at time management so I need a program that can lock me out of my computer for a specified amount of time, that way I don't get distracted and turn my computer on again. (Is there a way this is possible?) Please help!!!
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Re: Please help, I need a software that can lock me out of my computer for specified
this sounds like a horrible prank to play on a sibling/friend :/ but uhh im not sure thier is such a program, i mean it sounds very ..... dangerous potentialy if someone needed comp access sudenly for something ultimately etc on top of other issues.... you will need to go outside to do your homework etc perhaps... or find a way to keep your comp busy, maye if you used your comp for seti or dna or water or whatever they are doing with spare pc power while you do your work, pehraps play music from a net station while doing your homework as well from the pc that way its being used produtively and you get to focus on your work etc ?
just a possibilty
I know this is probably an amatuer question but I am running XP professional and want to find out how to set it so that it will lock the pc after a set amount of time when the user has been away. I don't want it to log out, just lock the pc, like when you go to the switch user screen, only automatically... thanks in advance
That is a setting in the screen saver properties. You can set time and require a password.
You'll have to be more specific than that. What exactly do you mean by "lock out time?"LIR
2 more repliesHello,
I am running genuine Windows XP, SP3.
My OS gets frequently locked, within 1 minutes of having no activity(mouse or keyboard).
I have checked the Sceensaver timer, but it is of no help.
I want to increase the computer lock timer as per my preference, but do not find this option anywehere.
Is there any registry setting or so, or if it has anything to do with group policy or anything.
I just keep unlocking my PC after no activity for 1 minute, makes it really difficult for me to read any article or e-book.
Please help.
Thank You,
Saurabh.

1 more repliesI am not quite sure where to start...as it is not a hardware issue, so me mentioning the hardware would more than likely not make the difference.
A few weeks ago, after a security update came down from Windows update, my home setup mysteriously started password locking when the remaining idle for a period of time. I do not have any other user accounts on my computer, just the Administrator account that I normally use. This same thing happens on my networked office computers, even if you aren't an administrator.
I have made sure that my screensaver is off, and I have also even messed around the power options, making sure that it was not the "one wake-up ask for password option."
I am not quite sure what caused this function to turn on, perhaps it was the security update, perhaps it was not.
Does anybody now how to turn off this function?
Hello,
Right click on your Desktop and click on Personalise. Click Screensaver in the new window. In the Screensaver window, uncheck "On resume display logon screen", click OK and the problem should be fixed!

Every time I press caps lock, to turn on or turn off, I can't keep typing until some process completes. The icon for capson/capsoff comes onscreen, and while it's there I can't keep typing, until some time passes. Very frustrating!
can i disable the onscreen icon - maybe that's taking processor time

Now that I seem to have had my malware issues solved, Tim recommended I post here for some assistance with software issues.
Unfortunately I don't quite know what to post in terms of logs, etc. however below is a list of what my computer is doing as well as a link to the thread I had going in the Malware Forum.
1. Booting up takes FOREVER. Literally 10+ minutes to get to the XP login.
2. After entering my XP password, it takes 15+ minutes for it to boot up, if it boots up at all. Sometimes I have to just turn my computer off then start again.
3. It takes a long time for Outlook to start up.
4. It takes a long time to get online (I use Firefox).
5. While on my computer whether it's internet browsing or using Word plus another program, everything will freeze up. Only turning off the computer will do anything.

id like to know if I can create a lock screen when my computer boots up to completely lock it from a very advanced user? Or any other ideas would be great. I'd like to know when im not home my computer is completely locked from my very spying boyfriend! I live alone, but sometimes he's here while im working. Im using windows 7 home premium. Thanks ahead of time for any ideas
Re: would know if ican setup a lock screen wheny computer boots up to completly lock
Don't log in :-D
Use a very difficult password. We have plenty of password generators on majorgeeks.
Enable the system admin account and password protect it.
Those two are probably enough. How advanced is he?
I read in one of the posts that 3d party defrager could mess up start speed and comp performance, whereas vista's built-in defrager keeps certain files in ceratin places to increase efficiency and speed. Any truth to this? What about Auslogics?
Short answer? It is true for all third party defrag software if you disable Windows defrag. Windows defrag learns and optimizes the file positions of your first load and frequently used programs. So, if you want the best optimization you would be defraging twice, first with your third party software and then with Windows defrag, which sort of defeats the purpose, no?
9 more repliesI have an Athlon 650, 512 MB PC running Windows 2000 server edition running Internet Connection Sharing (for cable modem), and IIS 5.0 for several web sites. I also use it as a file server. I usually leave it just sitting there and just update things every once in a while. I don't even have a monitor hooked to it. Should I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and click the "lock computer" or log out? Would this make it more secure somehow to hacks? I haven't had any problems yet, but I just want it secure as possible.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,

According to what microsoft says, Yes, it will provide an added layer of security.
I have 40 to 50 systems running 2K prof. I'd like to lock them out from being able to surf the net. I figure it can be done several different ways. I'm new with this company, and am just now learning their enviroment.
There are 3 different locations. Each site, has it's own 2K small biz server running.
They have no group policies in effect as well.
Where would you begin, or what would be the easiest solution, all the while providing some scaleability?
Thanks for the help
Not sure, but I think you might have better luck with this question in the Networking Forum.

More repliesHello, I like seeing AM/PM on any time value. I already know if it's AM or PM, but it looks more Proper to see the AM or the PM with whatever time it is.
What Registry modification/Program can help me achieve this?
Thanks
You can change the time format, how time is shown on Windows notification area freely but AM / PM is regardless of your settings never shown in Windows Clock and lock screen if 24 hour clock has been selected.
To change how time is shown on Windows desktop, select Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Region, click Additional settings:
Now change time formats manually typing any of the following values for short time. Add :ss for long time for seconds:
h:mm
12 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM
h:mm tt
12 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM
hh:mm
12 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM
hh:mm tt
12 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM
H:mm
24 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM
H:mm tt
24 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM
HH:mm
24 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM
HH:mm tt
24 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM
Here I have selected 24 hour clock with AM / PM, but it's only shown in notification area. Opening clock does not show AM / PM, nor does lock screen, whatever settings I have chosen as long as I am using 24 hour clock:
Using 12 hour clock AM / PM is always shown in Clock and lock screen if selected.

Is there any way to keep the lock screen from shutting me down if I don't do anything on the keyboard for a minute or 2 minutes, or whatever it is? I followed some instructions that I found on the internet that involve adding ".bak" or ".backup" to the lock screen file in "SystemApps" but it didn't have any effect. Then I clicked on "Settings" in the Start menu and got totally lost in all that stuff.
More repliesHello, I used to use a reg file for Windows 8.1 to customize the time until the screen turns off during the Lock Screen Time Out. I want to know if that command still applies for Windows 10.
The reg file command is:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Lock Screen]
"SlideshowDuration"=dword:000493e0
(where the screen turns off after 5 minutes).
I have the formula to figure out what you need to calculate to insert after "dword" for the amount of time until the screen times out (goes black). Ask me for the formula... as long as the above works.
Thanks
Never mind. I went into the Registry and checked it out.
Yes, the same exact rules apply here like in Windows 8.1

Hi,
I looking for a way to limit time on the PC - auto lock Windows after 30 minutes, even (and especially) when the computer is not idle.
When the user will log back into Windows by entering the Windows password, the counter will start again from 30 minutes.
The app should start automatically and silent with Windows, and the user should not be able to stop this app without a password.
Thanks, Nir.
Use parental controls. Only works on user accts, not admins.
9 more repliesHi there,
Since I got my current PC I've had an issue where it would occassionally completely lock-up, i.e. completely still image on screen, mouse wouldn't move, and it also put out a buzzing sound through the speakers/headphones. The only option was to force shutdown and start it up again. But it didn't happen that often so I wasn't bothered by it much.
However since updating to Windows 8 it is now happening about 15 minutes into use every time I turn the PC on (but after rebooting doesn't happen again until the next time I turn it on), so I'm looking for a solution now.
Has anyone seen something like this, or got any advise?
Thanks.

WOW!! Exactly what I'm seeing!!!
Usually occurs within 15 minutes of booting. Once a day only. I've had the computer off over 8 hours one day and when turned on it didn't happen... only the FIRST boot of the day. Works fine on any reboots after?
I have gotten random different BSOD's too.
I've also had days at a time when this didn't happen? I did nothing at all to change anything either. Then it starts happening again?
Things I have tried though:
Removed ANY unnecessary programs I had. This computer started with Vista, upgraded to W7, then W8 (when it started happening) and now W8.1, so I did collect a lot of 'junk'.
Stopped AutoStarting anything I didn't really need or could manually start later.
Changed Video card as old ATI was not suppo... Read more
Windows 8 keeps locking the screen, seems maybe 1 minute after not touching it. I would like to set that to something like 20 minutes, but I can't see where to do that?
Try looking in Control Panel under Power Option settings.
You can adjust for Battery and Power options / to your needs.
Anyone else seeing this issue? If I put my tablet into standby when I wake it I don't get the lock screen and it just goes straight to the start screen or whatever app I was using. If I put it into standby again then I'll get the lock screen the next time I wake it but then the next time it won't appear again. I've checked and it's literally every other time.

4 more repliesHi
In Windows 10 v1511, how do I make sure that the lock screen does not display the time?
Thanks
Bye
This is for Windows 8: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2...ck-screen.html
but I can't find the equivalent for Windows 10 (yet).
So, I have searched the internet for what I am trying to find but the only thing that comes up is how to add a timer that will turn the display off after a certain time WHILE the lock-screen is on. That's not what I am asking.
What I am asking is if there is a way to auto-lock the computer after a certain amount of time. I know you can activate a screensaver after a certain amount of time, and then once touched again it will show up at the lockscreen. That's not what I want. I have the lock-screen setup to play a slideshow of pictures that I want to play when not in use. (This is a 58" touchscreen display that is used to interact with a powerpoint presentation in a public area). If I leave the desktop screensaver option on, it'll turn off the lockscreen slides. Why does that matter if the slideshow is running you may be asking? Well, I have a script on the desktop of this computer that will lock the computer with a single click. This is because when someone is done doing a presentation, I want them to be able to lock the screen immediately so that when they walk away someone can't just walk by and start messing with a wide-open computer.
So, idk if this is possible or if someone has a better solution but i'd appreciate any input.
I have a Nokia 1020 and I would like to remove the date and time function from the lock screen. Is this possible. Thankyou
because you posted on my birthday I thought I'd help you out.
go to settings - glance - you can turn it off from there
good luck

I am running Windows 10 on my two home computers (laptop and desktop), and it drives me crazy that the console locks after 5 minutes and we have to enter a PIN to wake it back up. My wife has pretty much stopped using the laptop because she can't stand it. I had figured out how to disable it in Windows 8.1, but it appears they removed the option to add that to the settings in Windows 10. I have been searching the interwebs for days to try and find a solution posted somewhere and I am really surprised by the lack of complaints about this. I can't believe we're the only ones who find it maddeningly annoying. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions about what to do?
Thanks,
Nate
Basically, I have some people that would jump at the chance to hop onto an Administrator's account due to the restrictions they have. That being said, even if I leave my notebook alone for 5 minutes, I want the darn thing locked.
Just due to the fact I personally like a couple of the new Vista screensavers, is there a way to both lock and immediately start the screensaver?
Not sure why the screensaver would play into it, but whatever.
Set the screensaver to require a password on resume (even if the screensaver doesn't kick in automagically this is the proper setting), and press Windows+L anytime to lock the workstation immediately.
Hope this helps...
Hello Forum,
To begin with i would like to congratulate the admin team for maintaining such an awesome forum. I never felt the need to register because most of my seraches landed to this site for solution except for this one, so here i am with my problem.
I have 2 week old HP pavalion notebook pc with pre-installed Windows 8.1 64bit single language. Untill few days back, when i presses windows+L the lock screen would pop up immediately. But now whenever i do it, it takes time to lock.
I clocked it and it took approx 30-35 sec to lock. I am not sure what might be the problem or if this is al all normal behaviour. Have to look at 'Please wait' screen for 30 sec to get lock screen image.
Kindly help,
Thanks.
plz deselect lock and problem solve.

ps sorry if i havent give all the info i need but first time with this
pss also on the switch notice there is a four block of slots then one by itself ?
What is the model number of the Belkin "switch"?
Not very descriptive, but so the computer goes.
Lets say I am updating a blog. And I refresh a number of times, once for each post.
Not always the same amount of refreshes, but eventually I get the spinner upper right, and the status bar says either 'Done' or 'Stopped'.
If I check email, first time fine. I close email. Over the next 2-5 hours, I open email again, close again, open again, Mozilla Thunderbird newest version, and it says cannot connect. The number of times it will work and then stop, varies.
To fix either, I reboot, no need to do anything else, and they work fine again.
I get the impression that if I have to connect to anything outside my home computer, this occurs. I haven't tried all software, but it happens with email, both browsers, and connecting to Everquest.
So it isn't just one type of site/server. Just anything outside my home computer. I'm the only user and admin.
Any ideas ?
Thanks.

I frequently am logging in and out of my Windows 8.1 laptop. I have a good, secure password that I use and because I'm human, sometimes I mistype it. The issue is that on these occasions, I am locked out for a good 30 seconds from attempting to
login, even for the second time.
I can understand the time delay if it were say, my 5th or 6th attempt, but for one attempt this is entirely too long. How do I go about significantly reducing this, or ideally removing it?
Thank you very much!
Please help me. I am running the latest Internet Download Manager and have scanned my PC for rootkits, malware and viruses with many different sources and found 0 infections.
I am getting this exact error.........
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: file:///C:/Users/A6/AppData/Roaming/IDM/idmmzcc5/components/idmhelper5.js:91"
this locks up my PC for several minutes and eventually lets me click stop script, but it returns again over and over.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled IDM twice but no cure.
The script seems to be related to your download manager either uninstall it and just use windows or try reinstalling it
1 more repliesafter some sec of use navigator my divice my screen make some bright ticks and then go to lock screen how can i fix that..??
More repliesI like having my monitor power off soon after activity stops. Currently, I have it powering off after 2 minutes of inactivity. I am also very big on locking my PC when I step away. So, I also have the screen saver kick in after 2 minutes. (Of course, I never even see a screen saver because the monitor is off. And, in fact, my screen saver is set to "None". So this setting essentially means the PC is set to lock after 2 minutes.)
However, what often happens is that I'm sitting at the PC, and the monitor turns off, but I don't want it to lock. I move the mouse, and it's locked--even if I intervened within a second or two.
With Windows XP, I used to be able to use the ScreenSaverGracePeriod registry value to work around this. I've tried this with my Windows 8 system, but it doesn't work. I have tried using ScreenSaverGracePeriod as both REG_SZ and as DWORD.
Is there any way to delay the PC from locking after the monitor powers off by just a few seconds? I know I can have the monitor power off after 2 minutes but set the screen saver to 3 minutes, but I'd like to reduce the delay to a matter of seconds, if that is possible.
Hello Crosspatch,
I suppose one way would be to disable screen saver password protection to prevent it from basically locking the PC and asking for a password when you resume from screen saver.
Screen Saver Password Protection -Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Help Forums
The only drawback is that you would then need to lock the PC when you do want it to be password protected when unlocking. If you like, the desktop context menu added by either tutorial below can help make it easier to lock the PC.

New T530 with SSD takes minutes to boot to useable state:Desktop comes up fast, but continuous hard drive activity for two minutes on bootup, and screen is locked up (can't start anything).Every so often while I'm in a program the pointer goes into the rotating circle mode, also, so it appears something is popping in there. Any thoughts on why this is happening and what I can do to get the same fast boot time as my T500 with an SSD?I've gotten the most recent updates from Lenovo and Microsoft (including latest BIOS update, which didn't help).Ran MalwareBytes and CCleaner, which don't show anything bad. Very disappointed so far.

When it hangs while you are running, hit ctrl-alt-delete and choose task manager to see what is using CPU time. Are you using something like a domain controller for authentication? If so, is it always available? Often, this kind of problem occurs when searching for network shares
8 more repliesMy son has Dell Dimension computer running Windows Vista. He has recently had problems in that when he uses Word it appears that the Caps lock is on all the time. When he comes out of this and goes to his desktop if he tries to select another programme all the programmes on the desktop are highlighted. He runs Norton and it is not showing any problems. He has tried System restore and restore last known good configuration with no avail. Is this a virus and if so what caan be done.
This may be a stupid question, but I've got to ask it... He does know how to turn caps lock off, right? If he's tried this and it still doesn't work, your description of the symptoms makes me think that there's something wrong with the caps lock key that's making the keyboard think it's being pressed. (I say that because, if you click on an item and then click on another item with the shift key pressed, the PC will select all the items between the two items clicked on - which is what seems to be happening when he clicks on shortcuts on the desktop.)
10 more repliesHello,
First I want to point out that the "Play a slide show on the lock screen" is not the option that I'm looking for, since it remembers the original image that was set for the lock screen after I log back in, or restart the computer.
I am looking for an option that will always load a random picture from a certain folder to appear as my lock screen, every time the lock screen appears.
So for example, I turn on the computer and I see Image #1. I log into my account and after a few minutes I lock the computer. When I lock the computer, I want to see Image #7 as the lock screen. Now I restart the computer. Windows shuts down and starts up again. I am now at the lock screen again. I want to see Image #4. (The reason why those image numbers are like that is because they're random).
So does anyone know of an option in Windows that can do that, or a 3rd party program that can do that?
Thanks so much
It costs $1.99 but it sounds like exactly what you asked for:

Hi,
apologies if this has been covered before somewhere else.
I am trying to remove the time and date from the lock screen. having searched I have seen several customisation options but the only one that actually covered this specifically was to make a change in regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SystemProtectedUserData\S-1-5-21-x-x-x-x\AnyoneRead\LocaleInfo
this brought about issues relating to administrator accounts which seem to be a common problem with windows 8.1.
nearly all of the solutions were not available to me but I finally found I could make the change in regedit by changing ownership of the file and changing the format of the time to a space. unfortunately the date is still showing.
how can I remove the date?
further, just to clarify, does the original account I signed in with have full administrator privileges? are they disabled and need to be enabled?
ive seen the tutorial on the built in elevated administrator account, this didn't work on its own either. do some files require a change of ownership to be altered regardless of which account you are signed in with including the administrator account?
any help appreciated
thanks

4 more repliesThe whole thing started to appear around 3 days ago. The problem is that everytime I boot, windows 10 stays on a weird lock screen without any buttons for a long long time. There are just 4 icons in the bottom right corner (shut down, accesibility, ethernet...) It sometimes manages to get to desktop, and sometimes not. Not sure what caused it, could be a recent windows update, not sure tho. I ran some HDD scans and everything turned out fine, also did a registry cleanup, tried disabling lock screen, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or solutions?
Welcome to the TenForums @Taukonza
Could you please review your update history and see if any updates for Windows or Drivers were installed in last week?
You mentioned when you boot. Not sure if this is happening on restart or power on or both. If it is power on booting can I suggest a quick test. Open a command prompt (admin) and type
powercfg -h off
This will disable hibernation and in turn Fast Startup. Test. If no change you can re-enable by typing
powercfg -h on
After you boot have you reviewed your Event Viewer to see if Windows is kicking out any serious errors to the system log?

I sign in with my MS account (administrator) and after signing in and using win+l the time format is correct hh:mm (24hr) but after each restart the time format reverts to h:m (12hr). This after successfully upgrading from 8.1 pro 64bit to 10. What am I missing? Thanks
More repliesFan IssueI've cleaned my laptop sometime this month after about two years of use. Popped it open, blew everything, popped it back. I saw a post before posting this about removing the battery before cleaning so i'm considering going back and doing that. I usually keep it running in high performance because I use it for gaming. Core/CPU usage is almost never above 10%, currently sitting at 2%-4%. Memory is usually high because I only have a 500GB SSD, currently at 58%. The other stats (disk, network, and GPU), sit at 0 (although GPU will boost to about 60% when gaming). Currently, I have it in balanced mode and set the maximum core usage to 40% and it's still going strong. Any suggestions? Gaming IssueAlso on a side note, if anyone can assist me with a gaming issue I'm having. My computer has a 960 GTX, i74720GQ @ 2.6GHz, and 500 GB SSD (samsung evo--upgraded from 1TB HD) and I'm having issues with my FPS in-game. It locks at 30 or FPS across all games. I do have two GPU's (integrated and 960 GTX) and have always used the GTX as the primary source, uncapped in-game graphics, limited background interference (services, programs, etc.) and possibly other things I can't think of but cannot release the in-game FPS cap. Even when settings are at the lowest settings. In previous times, if I were to uncap, it'd reach above 60 easily consistently but now when it's uncapped, it never goes above 60. One might ask what changed? After upgrading from HDD to SSD, I had to reset my ... Read more
More repliesHello. I am using an HP Pavilion g6 1045ej laptop. The laptop is about 4 years old and 3 days ago I replaced the cpu from i3 380m to i7 640m. after the repalcement the laptop didn't boot up, the fans were whirring but the BIOS screen didnt came up. The Caps Lock button is blinking in intervals of one, the wireless button is orange and thats it. Its been like this ever since. Any suggestions?, Please help.
More repliesAs the title says, I couldn't find it anywhere, but I was looking to have it so that after a set period of time Windows will automatically lock out the user (me). I'm not talking about having a screensaver come up, but I've seen it before, where it basically looks like the logon screen of XP, where you have to click on your name to go back into Windows, and type in your password again.
Can someone direct me to where I set this option? I thought it'd be in the standard haunts, but I don't see it anywhere.
Thanks!
I've not seen this done outside the screensaver options, but this link has another option.
Reading more, I think what you really want is the screensaver option, but use the logon.scr with password enabled.
Vista OS on Toshiba laptop, and other laptops.
Juat after Christmas, five of our laptops running Vista started locking up. We run TrendMicro Client Security Agent software; when we disable the real-time scan the machines run fine but when we enable the real-time scan they lock up immediately.
TrendMicro suggested that the version of the scan software we are running was old; I downloaded the latest version and installed it on one machine and it locked up immediately. I have disabled the automatic scanning for the time being but need tor resolve this before any users contract a virus.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thank you.
Anybody know of good software that can be used to lock down some XP systems? I need the system to pretty much only allow the user to visit facebook, our company website, and twitter. I prefer free but if the software really works well and does not cost much I am not opposed to buying.
Hi friends,
can any one send me the link to lock the cd for further being burned up if anyone has the idea whether that kind of software is available or not....
A guy at work always delete my stuff on my PC when I'm away.
I need a password lock.
what OS? Any NT based OS has that built in...
So I just installed Windows 8 on my system, and it was all going smoothly, until I got to installing Steam. After I clicked through a few menus, Steam finally started to install, but the progress bar never went up. If I tried to do anything else (Open task manager, stop the installation, etc...) everything would just lock up and I couldn't do anything.
At this point my only option was to restart, so I did just that. After about an hour of waiting for Windows to boot back up, I gave up and tried to do a system repair. This failed too, so I just re-installed Windows 8. I tried this 4 times. The first few times I thought it was because I might have had incorrect chipset drivers installed, but even when I did get the correct ones, it had the same issue.
At this point my only thought is that maybe I should do all available windows updates before I start installing steam? Otherwise, I'm out of ideas for getting this to work. It's also looking like this may be some sort of hardware failure, possibly ram?
So has anyone else experienced this, or do you have advice?
Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 ghz
Graphics card: HIS ATI Radeon 7770, 1 GB ram
Ram: 2 x 4GB(2 sets) G.Skill Ripjaws X series, total 16 GB
I have Windows 8 on my PC since arrival on MSDN and since then my Steam client works fine.
But yet difference is that my Win 8 is upgraded with latest updates.
The 30 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes screen time out is useless to me.
Anyone else feels my frustration? Does anyone know if Win10 will fix this?
Lumia 630 has that option already.

More repliesHi,
Looking for software for my office that will password protect the use of all USB ports and the DVD burner to prevent employees from copying files. I don't mind paying for it so I don't get advertising or malware installed. Know of any good ones? Thanks

hello Tech guys
there is a technical set up to ban download / install any software on the PC, which I guess is an effective tool to limit kids from accidentally downloading any unwanted stuff, and thus, will require to enter a password to allow any downloading to be completed,
could this set up also limit the chance for any malware or virus software to be installed on the machine?
Kindly shore the idea how to fix this set up? and any additional ideas of how effective is?
and how to unlock such settings?
with many thanks in advance,
Kind regards

I want to get other peoples opinions on this subject. I recently had a hard drive crash and I believe that a virus had something to do with it (using Avira at the time). While reconfiguring the new hard drive I did a little research and came across someones post who said that it is better to lock the registry than to have any anti virus program. He basically gave the analogy that its better to have a locked door that only the user can grant permission to allow others in the door. VS. AV software who leaves the door open and puts a security guard in front of it.
To me - it makes sense, and it will give my PC a boost in speed/performance; but I want to hear others thoughts/opinions. Looking forward to hearing them.

It's not a good idea, malware can install itself persistently on your machine without using the registry.
5 more repliesI've done some searching, but can't seem to find anything. Basically I'd like to have software that will show an image on his screen and prevent him from using his computer, so he doesn't spend too much time on it. Is there any free program to do this?
I downloaded the "demo" version of Folder Lock 6 software and tested it by encrypting some of documents. My password will not open the files and I can find no way to get the file open. Is there a backdoor to getting my files back. I have uninstalled the software and re-installed it, but still no luck.
what to do when a dell latitude d630 laptop is not on but cap lock, num lock and scroll lock is on and i'e tried to check the VGA and the processor
More repliesHello! Since the most recent build of W-10 (9879), my caps lock, num lock, and scroll lock lights do not function on either computer on which I have W-10 installed (a desktop with a USB keyboard and a laptop with an integrated keyboard). The keys still work to correctly toggle the functionality, but the keyboard lights don't work. In case it matters, my keyboard's actual backlights and my mouse's internal light (not the laser, the internal LED) are working correctly, it's just the CL, NL, and SL indicators that don't function.
Anyone have any ideas for fixing this?
Welcome to Windows TenForums, Vaindil.
It doesn’t seem to work on anyone’s system and there doesn’t seem to be a fix yet. You can read here into the beginning of the next page if you like.

Hey guys, I have been having a pretty major dilemma with my computer. So basically:
A few days ago (January 11, 2018), I downloaded the new windows update (forget the name every time ). It was initially working out quite well. Fast forward to like four o' clock, when I leave home for a few hours. I then come back to my computer, awakening it from its sleep, and then the lock screen is utterly broken. It appears as a white screen with red and green (maybe blue too???) lines running to and fro. My cursor as well appeared as a jumbled mess of black pixels. I have been dealing with this dilemma for the past few days (today is January 16 2018 at time of writing), and I have had no luck searching for help. If you have any knowledge of what is happening, or can offer help, then please offer it, that will be wonderful.
EDIT: Oh, forgot to include this, but I have tried a malwarebytes scan (probably at January 12, 2018), but it did not come up with anything important.
hello guys,
well it started when i tried to lock a file i went like this :
-Properties
-General
-Advanced
-Encrypt content to secure data.
a window popped out asking me to create a password but i didn't do so i just canceled the process & unchecked the
Encrypt content to secure data again.
now every time i create a folder or a file or even move it somewhere the lock icon appears again, it doesn't require any password but it's just annoying me. is there anyway to prevent it from showing again ?
thanks & yeah i use windows 10 pro.
I regularly use the 24 hour time format for all of my systems.
Its not a major issue I have now with Win10, but its annoying a bit.
Before I logon to Windows 10, the default lock screen theme has the time in 12 hour format instead of the 24 hour format.
In Windows, I set everything in 24 hour time. Period. I just don't like 12 hour time.
However, when I sign out or just by locking my screen, it does show the time in 24 hour format.
But when I reboot my system it shows the time in 12 hour format.
Is this a bug or what in Win10?
Thanks!
Mine shows 24 hour.

12 more repliesHi, We use lync 2013 on the t431s and it works great, except that the privacy setting for the camera is always true. You can manually turn it off without any problems, but it always returns back to on. I haven't yet found out when it does this. I tried restarting lync, rebooting, login out and in, locking... no avail. But somehow, you wait a while and poof... the privacy setting is back on. Any ideas? I found a related post:- http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Thinkpad-T530-Integrated-Camera-not-working... Extra info:- All our t431s have the same problem.- our helix devices don't have this problem.

If you have Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Internet Security, or the Kaspersky Total Security Suite installed on your PC there is a known driver bug that prevents these programs from working as expected in builds from the Development Branch. We are partnering with Kaspersky to fix this issue for a future release, but at this time there are no known workarounds. While this issue is present, we recommend using Windows Defender or another third party anti-virus product of your choice to remain protected.
I am not a Windows fan boy. In fact, I have no qualm if I have to switch to Android..... today.
However, let's be fair.
Microsoft has no obligation to make its operating systems, Windows 10 in this case, compatible with 3rd party programs.
It is incumbent upon the 3rd party manufacturers to make sure their products are compatible with Windows 10, IF they want their products to be used by Windows 10 owners.

Hey folks!
So, I'm having an insanely frustrating issue that I can;t quite wrap my head around so far, heres the situation:
Recently upgraded my graphics card and got a new mouse (Logitech G502), when I'm trying to install the software for the mouse it gets half way through installation and Windows COMPLETELY locks up, everything just freezes and I'm unable to do anything forcing me to perform a hard reset, this also happened during a couple of other software installations.
I performed a clean install of Windows 10 as I thought it might fix the issue, but alas the issue is still present and also happened when installing an Intel LAN update.
The issue is even present when trying to install the same software in safe mode.
Memtest has com back negative, CPU stress testing has proved to not be an issue, as has GPU stress testing (as initially I thought the issue may be that the factory-set overclock may be unstable).
I'm totally out of ideas and can't wrap my head around what's happening. Event viewer even shows me nothing except for the usual kernel-power "system restart unexpected".
Really appreciate some help on this one!
Thanks in advance!
Hello CXloud and welcome to the TenForums
Have you checked all the internal connections to the motherboard and tried re-seating the graphics card and also the memory cards. I am wondering if something got disturbed when you added your new graphics card.
How long did you run the memory test for? How many passes?
Hi guys, I've tried Folder Lock to lock my files but I realize that it doesn't work at all, has many bugs. I've tested out it's protection, but it doesn't have any! ATTRIB +H "foldername"
it's basic and if search "hidden files and folders" is selected from search window they will still be found. But you didn't go into too much detail about why you want to hide the folders and how hidden you want them to be.
Had a motherboard go out, got a barebones and used old HD, video card, etc. HD had a boot sector virus, cured that and got everything back up except that I have a problem with frequent lockups. The screen will freeze, and nothing will get it to work again except to push the reset button. CTRL-ALT-DLT does nothing.
After killing the boot virus, the only other problem encountered getting everything to work was with the video card, an ASUS 7100 AGP. I downloaded an updated driver and only had 800 x 640 resolution and 16 colors. Wiping the new driver and using the original CD to re-install allowed higher resolutions and more colors. Shortly after that the lockups started occuring. They seem to happen during a screen refresh so it makes me suspect the video, either the hardware or driver. About 20-30% of the time the icon in the lower left corner of the screen will turn black, the rest of the time it doesn't. Sometimes it locks before the computer completes bootup, or it may boot and run for several hours. This afternoon it took 4 reboots just to get to this forum.
Can anyone offer suggestions on how to determine the cause? Am running Win2000 Pro, an AMD3400+, 1 gig ram. Any other info needed?
TIA
Just wanted to let anyone know who may be considering encrypting or locking drives, folders, and/or files - stay away from the product called "Folder Lock". After installing it systematically destroyed my files when encrypting and unencrypting them. I lost over a years worth of work (don't ask me about backups) I have DVD's but in video not files.
Program sucks as far as I'm concerned. One issue - for encrypting you have to install to the drive you are encrypting, which means all files have to go to that drive. You need a huge drive as all files encrypted write to that drive - for anyone who uses multiple drives this is a problem.
If any one knows anything about folder lock destroying files and can recover those, please let me know. I already did an "OnTrack" data recovery scan but the files are not showing up.:
I am looking for a basic and simple software or perhaps a built in feature in Win 7 to lock a folder. All I am looking for is something which just puts a password on a folder and perhaps prevent it from being deleted. Nothing else, no encryption or anything.
Have a look here:
How To Lock And Password Protect Folder In Windows 7/Vista
Hi folks,
I'm looking for a (free) software that can lock a drive/folder/s & other user cannot delete it ie folder until they provide the password or logged in as an admin.
Thank you!!!
You can find some freewares on the download sites but I haven't tried them. Don't know how effective they are. Another approach may be to see the tutorial for setting up the "real Administrator" account on Vista or W7 and create the folder in that account. Supposedly somebody with less privilege shouldn't be able to delete it. Use an encryption program to encrypt the folder contents.
If you want quick access use the fast user switching to log in as Administrator.
Also there was an 'su' program around that let you log in as admin similar to how it works in Linux su command. I don't know if it's updated for Vista/W7 though. I used it in NT Server 4.
Everytime I try to install Windows 98 or Windows98SE onto my harddrive, it always locks up during the copying files portion of the install. I can sometimes get by this part by changing some of the settings in the bios. In these cases I reboot and it hangs after the "Loading Windows for the first time" screen, and before it actually loads windows. I am running a 1.2Ghz Athlon Thunderbird on a ASUS A7A266 Rev. 1.10 motherboard. I am using the Annihaltor 2 AGP card (GeForce) and have tried a diamond PCI card. I have a 6.2 Gig WD harddrive hooked up, but have tried a 20 Gig. I have tried setting the CPU/SDRAM ratio to different settings and the multiplier to different settings. I have tried the harddrive on both the primary and secondary ide controllers. I am running 256M of PC100 and have switched in another stick of 256M of PC100. I thought I had a bad board the first time and got a new board, but had the same results. I have updated to the latest bios. I have tried different cables. I know that the Windows cds are good because I could still load windows on my old system. I have tried safe mode, and loading step by step. It always locks up. I have tried several different bios settings. I thought it might be a heat problem, but I ran it in a very cold environment and had a bios reading of 36 degrees celsius. I would appreciate any help.
