Preferred Solution: typo on home page

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

well, i've been looking around in a res. hacker, and if you open the chrome.dll, and goto BINDATA, then 209, there is the javascript for the default page (minus the top bar, i haven't gotten that far yet)

some basic editing of the css allows background changes and such like that.

however. im having a tough time doing it. the .dll corrupts very often, about ever 10th time i change something and recompile it.

any ideas?

As the title says... I'm looking for a Chrome extension so when I click on a Youtube channel's name... it takes me directly to their full list of videos instead of their landing page.

For instance... when clicking on a channel's name... I want to go to:

https://www.youtube.com/user/marquesbrownlee/videos

instead of:

https://www.youtube.com/user/marquesbrownlee/

It doesn't seem like it would be difficult for an extension to do.... just append "/videos" on the end of a channel's URL

Does something like this exist?

If anyone is wondering why... I frequently end up on a Youtube video and wonder "what other videos do they have?" So I click on their name and get their landing page with their trailer video and only a few recent videos.

But I want to go directly to their video page to see all their videos.

We have a domain environment with the roughly 300 computers.  Almost all the computers are Windows 7 and we have has the default home page define my GPO for years.

July 2017 we had about 50 Computers change the default  homepage that points to a Microsoft link that redirects to a msn page. The msn page is no longer a valid page.  I cannot find a pattern between the computers,  The policies are
still apply and it just does not reset the default webpage for the user profile.  If you reset the Internet explorer settings everything works as normal and he gets the policy homepage.

I ruled out malware  with multiple tools could find nothing to suggest it had been hijacked.

If I log into a different  user account on the same computer that user account does not have the same problem.  My Theory was a old Microsoft patch some how did this, but I could not find a patch that had ran on the affected PC's.

Dell is my preferred laptop brand, but these shared keys on the arrow keys are unusable.  I don't use desktops, so my laptop is my main workstation and I use these keys very often.
Ever since Dell got rid of the last row of buttons, I had to look for other options.  They claim that it makes the laptop more compact, but there are still ample space on the sides.  Look at the Dell Precision 5520 as an example - wide open spaces.  I liked their older design much better with the shortened right shift button and full-size arrow keys and home, end, pg up/down in the last row.
I now have a HP EliteBook 1040 G3 instead.  It's only 14", but comes with a much better keyboard layout.  That was actually the deciding factor.  It would have been a Dell otherwise.
I know many other people are also feeling the same way, so I hope R&D will address this.  I'll gladly switch back to Dell once they do.

Answer:Poor keyboard layout lately (Home, End, Page Up, Page Down)

Yeah, this has come up quite a bit, especially on the Precision models where as you say there's space.  I have a Precision 5520 and a Latitude 7480.  Not only does the 7480's keyboard feel better, but it has dedicated PgUp and PgDn keys right in a space where the 5520 has....nothing.  Would have been easy to at least add those.  As for Home and End being shared, my previous system (a Precision M6300) had all of these navigation keys in their proper 3 across, 2 down arrangement in the upper-right corner, which I loved, so using Home/End as shared keys was annoying at first -- but I have to say, after really setting my mind to it, I got comfortable with it after about 2 weeks, and now I don't have any real problem switching between my 7480's keyboard and my Das Keyboard Ultimate, which has a traditional layout.
Anyhow, these complaints came up frequently on NotebookReview in a thread where a Dell Precision product manager is active, so I think there's a chance things will improve with the next refresh. :)

Home page redirected to dosearch.com and since that started happening I'm getting a bunch of pop-ups and ads telling me my browser needs to be updated for security reasons. I removed dosearch.com from my list of home pages in internet options but it still comes up when first going online. I have found info about it online but they are mostly web pages that offer a bunch of costly removal tools which makes me wonder if they are in on it.

Every now and than when I use internet explorer 7 it shows the following microsoft update page telling me that IE 7 is available when I already have it and am using it when it shoes this:

My homepage is www.google.com not that thing. Whenever that page shows up and I click the home button it goes to google. But like I said every other day it comes back and shows that above as my home page. Why is this happening and how can I fix it? I'm using IE 7 so why keep bothering me about updating to IE 7? I don't get it microsoft... & yes google.com is set as my default homepage in my tools/options. The page above is coming from this address: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx

Answer:Why Does IE 7 Always Open With A Microsoft Home Page When It's Not My Default Page?

Re: Why Does IE 7 Always Open With A Microsoft Home Page When It's Not My Default Pag

I honestly don't want to mess with the registry like that unless it's safe for me to do so. I don't use IE but instead use Mozilla Firefox. Though I will need access to IE every now and than. & that's why this kind of start page is bothersome. So I guess what I'm saying is if I'm not comfortable with tweaking the registry I'm fine just using Mozilla right?

Thanks

Recently, I changed DSL providers from Earthlink to another company. I did this for two reasons: the Earthlink throughput was awful, and their tech support was virtually useless. After numerous attempts to get the speed problems resolved I finally gave up. Upon ordering the new provider's service, I uninstalled Earthlink from my PC. Problem is, no matter what I do, my IE home page is the Earthlink start page. I have used the IE options to change it, it goes right back to Earthlink. I have changed it in the registry, it goes right back to Earthlink. I have checked for spyware/adware, run registry cleaner, you name it. Is my PC going to be forever haunted by Earthlink? I have XP home edition, latest version. Can someone rid me of this troublesome home page?

Sorry to start a new thread, but most of the stuff I've read here is older and doesn't seem to apply.

Running Sys 7 and Firefox ver. 26. Yahoo hijacks my home page. I've run a variety of malware programs with no joy. I suspect Yahoo has installed a "hidden" add-on, although I'm not 100% sure of that. I've uninstalled anything that has Yahoo connected to it also Spigot...no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Don

Hello dondd,

Sorry to start a new thread, but most of the stuff I've read here is older and doesn't seem to apply.Click to expand...

Do you mean you have another topic covering the same problem?

If so, you should post that you are receiving help here and mark the topic solved otherwise you might end up with conflicting advice.

Now

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will produce a log called (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run from.
Please copy and paste log back here.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please also paste that into your reply.

I've just purchased a new Dell laptop and I can't change the Internet Explorer home page from www.google.co.uk/ig/dell?hl=en&client=dell-usuk&channel=uk.

If I do make a change in Tools, Internet Options, the change does not persist; it immediately reverts to the above.

I suspect that something is detecting my attempt to change the value and either preventing it or overwriting it with the above.

Please see the attached Hijack This log file. I would be very grateful if anybody could advise as to what might be causing my problems.

Note that I have attempted to fix the three R0 entries in the log file (using Hijack This). However when I run the scan again, they are still there.

Many thanks in advance

Hi!

I've got a problem. After installing some silly small program from the Internet, I cannot change the start
page in my browser any more. It is defaults to some
address that displays a frame as a bar on top with
some ads. I WANT IT TO BE REMOVED but no matter what
I did it stayed there. I think the IE files might
have been patched by that prog?

Any advice will be greatly apreciated. Thank you!

Guys I need help with this. see hijack this log below.

Edit by chaslang: Inline log attached

Answer:Home page hijacked by blank page

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please do not post any logs especially HijackThis inline. Also you must run the cleaning steps given below first. You have a bunch of problems including an HSA hijacker.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

- Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

- Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

Now since you have an HSA hiajcker run the steps in the below thread but start at step 2 since after doing the above you have done most of step 1.
about:Blank and HSA Hijacker - Simplified Removal

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

Could someone give me some advice as to how to stop IE6 from loading an unwanted web page as my home page when I first open the browser? I can go to Tools>Internet Options>Home Page and change it to blank (which is what I want to do), then hit Apply, then OK. I can close the browser, then reopen a new one with the blank page as my home page like I want it. The offending page is real-yellow-page.com.

But everytime I log off the Internet, then back on and open my browser, the offending page is my home page again. Might be a simple fix. I just don't know what it it cause I'm not that pc savvy.

Thanks in advance for any help w/this problem.

I almost forgot to add that I've also run Spybot S&D and Adaware, and neither of those progs show any problems to be fixed. I'm in the process of dnloading and installing HijackThis also.

Hi:
This problem is either Networking/connection or XP issue, but I want to find out what's the problem is.

The issue is that whenever start-up PC/XP, 'not connected,' page appears instead Home-Page. After a couple of second, it shows 'now connected' in the rectangular-box at the right bottom of corner of task-bar and I need to click to open 'Home-Page' manually although I set 'I.E.' on start-up to open Home-Page automatically.

It appears to me that my ISP is slow connection, but of course I can not be sure.

How to open up Home-Page, instead seeing 'not connected' page?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer:'Not connected' Page instead "Home Page'

You Network Adapter loads last on your computer and it takes up to a minute to connect to the internet. So, everything else is going to load first before you can access a web page. So, if you have IE set to open with Windows, it is going to show a not connected message until you get an internet connection. Better to not have IE load at startup and just be patient. You can also, just leave your computer on and the internet connection always on.

Hi noroots

Welcome to TSG!

Click here to download CWShredder. UnZip the file, close all browser windows and click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished Restart your computer.

IMPORTANT!: To help prevent this from happening again, I strongly recommend you install the patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits.

The simplest way to make sure you have all the security patches is to go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates and Service Packs"

Go here and download Adaware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest referencefiles.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window :Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal a... Read more

Question: Microsoft Typo

Microsoft made a typo in their WinSAT application, How can we let them know about it?

Answer:Microsoft Typo

Hi Steven,

You can try contacting them by following the link below. Whether or not you will get a response I cannot say. I have managed to locate the error in the 'WinSAT.exe' file (notice the space between the letters), and you can edit it to replace the erroneous 'o' with an 'i', however by doing so you will probably cause it to fail an SFC scan. In my opinion, it is such a minor error that it is probably best left ignored.

Okay helping a friend via long distance phone calls and the random email. This is the only info I have, if someone could shed some light on this and help, we both would appreciate it. Here is the email she was able to send:

"Still messing with that damn trojan. AVG sees it and asks the usual, delete, heal, or move to vault. No matter how many times I choose delete, or heal or even move, it comes back again and again. This is what was causing my IE to try and dial out (at least, that's what I get from looking online for info on this damned thing) and share my info with the hacker. Avast does not seem to see...this file. It is saving itself (and apparently restoring itself) in my Windows folder as a dll file. prntsvr.dll to be exact.

The name AVG gives is PSW.Dumarin.C. The last thing I tried was to turn my

I mistyped a url earlier (I believe i typed 'radiosahck' instead of radioshack) and was redirected to a strange website (something about internet surveys I believe) I closed it right away and did a quick scan with malwarebytes to make sure nothing was wrong, and it came up empty. I'm probably being a bit paranoid here, but is this anything to really worry about?

Answer:Odd URL typo redirect...

Redirects can be something to worry about, as you have no idea what content is being hosted on the re-direct. Most popular anti virus programs, have real-time scanning, where it's constantly scanning your computer, and as soon as you're redirected to a bad website, it will block any content that's harmful to your computer. I use Eset and it does this.

So I was browsing around in Windows Defender (Windows Settings > Update & Security > Windows Defender > Open Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings, then scroll down to Controlled folder access.)

The sentence "Protect your files and folders from unauthorized changed by unfriendly applications" has a typo in it.
(Refer to the attached picture)

Either:
? The word "changed" has a typo in it and should be the word "changes" (with an 's' instead of a 'd'), or
? There is at least one missing word in between the words "unauthorized" & "changed"
Somebody should inform Microsoft about this typo.

But Also: I noticed that this is a new option, since the last time I was browsing around in there. What does this option exactly do? It was originally off, but I turned it On. Yet I must say that I have seen a few messages pop up in the right corner of the screen, stating that Windows Defender blocked some programs from making changes. One of them showed explorer.exe from modifying the Favorites folder without me doing anything with Favorites. Exactly what does this option do? Is it kind of like some sort of strict "Firewall"? Because if so, then I like that.

Answer:HAH, I Found A Typo In Windows!

Mine says 'unauthorised' (but then it should in the UK) - still has the typo though

Blocks access to your files and documents by unknown apps (malware/ransomware). It's off by default because not all 'good' apps are in it's 'trusted' list. It takes a bit of fiddling to get all your apps to work after you turn it on.

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing the red typo lines when there are no typos. This happens on occasion when I'm typing emails and posting or responding to forums. It seems to occur when there is an actually typo and I correct the error. After that the entire post/email from that point on will have the red typo lines.

For example it is happening now... I'll try to post a pic for a better understanding.

Has anyone experience this as well and most importantly does anyone know of a solutions to this?

My unit is new and I have yet to DL Office 365 so I don't have Word. Not sure if that will matter.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi can someone please help clear up my concerns because I accidentally interned the wrong DNS address on my new router.
After entering this typo I almost immediately that my connection was unstable especially on Linux and yesterday evening when I logged back into my router the DNS settings were set to there defaults. But I was able to surf the web kinda in Windows though it timed out often and certain webpages wouldn't even open, and now when ever I enter the correct DNS settings it disconnects from the internet.

Here's what I entered

222.67.222.222
220.67.220.220

Instead of

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

I'm really feeling uneasy and stressed about this, any advice?

Why does stuff like this happen whenever your in poor health or any other of life's trials and complications?

Answer:Open DNS typo on router

Two things you might check:

1. In Windows, do your Network Properties have a DNS Server entry(s) that point(s) to your router (probably 192.168.1.1 or close) or do they point to the published OpenDNS IP addresses? Easy check: From an Elevated Command Prompt: ipconfig /all

2. After you corrected the DNS router entries, did you have the router do a cold reboot?

I believe you shouldn't overly stress yourself over this if you didn't make any financial transactions. But new passwords could be needed.

Sound as if what you have set is the page Edge opens at, not the Home page. For that you need to scroll down to the bottom of Edge's Settings to find the Advanced Settings button. Here you should select 'A specific page', enter the address of your chosen Home page then click the 'save' button just to the right of it.

Answer:HJT Log -- Home page changed to Home Search

Your log shows that you are seriously behind on windows updates. It is essential that you update your windows before we continue to help you as the infections could reoccur. Go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and if it asks to install software, let it. Then click on the Scan link and let it do its thing. When its done you will see on your left a section called critical updates. Click on that section and install everything that you can. When it prompts you to reboot, do so. Then repeat this process again until there are no more critical updates listed. Install Service Pack 4 and all critical updates. After the installation of the last update make sure you REBOOT the computer, run HijackThis again and post a new log please.Download this: Getservices.zipExtract the file to the c:\ drive. Then navigate to the c:\getservices folder and double-click on the getservices.bat file. A notepad will open up. Please paste the contents of that notepad as a reply to this post. The trojan mutates on every reboot. From the moment you post your list, until you see a detailed fix written up, DO NOT reboot your system or log off. If you do, the service will have changed and the fix provided will not work.

I'm just setting up a new computer, and not used to the keyboard. When I was installing the operating system I was asked for a User name. Before I had a chance to do anything it had accepted the name GREU and moved on to the next step. No back button! Bloody i7's, so fast!

I've tried doing a search in regedit for GREU, changed it in one place, but its still showing up all over. Is there a complete fix to this or should I resign myself to being known as Greu for the next few years?

Answer:Typo when entering user name - I'm now Greu!

I think this is a virus behavior. Recently whenever I type in microsoft waord or notepad or fill up webforms in IE, the cursor jumps anywhere in the previous sentences, or highlights the last some letters somewhere and the entire type goes haywaire. Now Also this is getting typed anywhere and I have to delete, retype. very painful. I have Norton antivirus 2005, zerospyware (after reading the latest article in your mag only), adware, spybot and zone alarm, all fully updated. and none have been able to pick up a virus/spyware after a thorough system scan. I am going crazy typing, especially when i am prescribing medicines to my patients. I don't want to reload windows and all my applications again.Pl HelpDr Alok Modi MD

Purchased a new laptop and skipped making the MS email but created a password for my account. When I booted up my pc later on I was greeted with an incorrect password message. I must have made a typo in the pw set up because it does not work.I also didnt create a recovery disk because I had literally only used it for 30 mins before turning it off and this problem was the last thing I ever expected to happen. There is only one account and it's the one that is locked. A to rendered a $600 purchase obsolete until I can fix it.All help is appreciated.

for your information:

Spyware authors and phishing fraudsters yanked an old scam out of the playbook Wednesday by directing malicious code at Internet users who may be prone to typing or spelling deficiencies, according to security researchers.

Finnish security firm F-Secure said they discovered an attack aimed at Web surfers attempting to land on Google's (Quote, Chart) homepage, but who may have mistyped the Web address.

Internet users who punch in "Googkle.com" are treated to a host malicious code, as the computer gets slammed with a heap of the unwanted software that is automatically downloaded and installed. The malware includes: Trojan droppers, Trojan downloaders, backdoors, a proxy Trojan and a spying Trojan. A few adware-related files are also installed, the firm said.

Memory corruption caused by an unknown driver. Please run memtest and driver verifier.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Hi,

I am having a problem when i misspell URLs.

When i type things like google.con instead of .com, i am redirected to a host of different search sites, including searchathand.com, and daplaces.com. I am pretty sure i must be infected with something, but i have ran several online and offline spyware and malware scanners and nothing seems to find a problem.

I am running Firefox version 1.5.0.6, but the problem also occurs in IE as well.

Advise please!

Cheers

Joel

Edit: I seem to have found what i think is the culprit for this...but this leads to another problem.

There is a HJT entry stating
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{A2EA3617-0DD4-4C7B-89EC-1F1FB24D96E1}: NameServer = 85.255.114.7 85.255.112.174

I have removed this on a couple of occasions and it only returns a few minutes later.

Help please!!!

NAME: Googkle
ALIAS: Googkle.com

Summary

F-Secure staff has found a malicious website that utilizes a spelling error when typing the name of the popular search engine - 'Google.com'. If a user opens a malicious website, his/her computer gets hijacked - a lot of different malware gets automatically downloaded and installed: trojan droppers, trojan downloaders, backdoors, a proxy trojan and a spying trojan. Also a few adware-related files are installed.

The name of the malicious website is 'Googkle.com'. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS WEBSITE! Otherwise your computer will get infected! We have reported the case to the authorities.

Detailed Description

Our investigation revealed that the whole infection starts from the 'googkle.com' website. This website, as well as a few related websites are owned by people with Russian names. Also several malicious files that are downloaded from these websites have Russian texts.

When the 'googkle.com' is opened in a browser, it shows 2 popup windows that are linked to the following websites:

www ntsearch.com
toolbarpartner.com

The 'ntsearch.com' website downloads and runs the 'pop.chm' file and the 'toolbarpartner.com' website downloads and runs the 'ddfs.chm' file. Both files are downloaded using exploits and they contain exploits themselves to run embedded executable files. One of the webpages of the 'toolbarpartner.com... Read more

Hello: I just received some windows updates as well as upgrading to Internet Explorer 7.
Note: I had to remove IE 7 the other day as I was having issues opening certain webpages.

Anyway, IE 7 seems to be navigating fine, other than the fact that when I click on my desktop icon to launch Internet Explorer it opens to a webpage that allows you to Customize Your Settings.

Although, I have www.google.com as my home page within Internet Options (General tab), Google does not open, but rather http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 opens then quickly converts to http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx which then opens the Customize Your Settings webpage.

I noticed that the default setting in Internet Options is displayed as http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 , so I tried to change that to www.google.com, but it reverts back to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 .

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ted569

Answer:Home page automatically opens to "Customize Your Settings" page

That is new with IE7.0. You should only have to run through the customization once though. Then click "Go To My Homepage." That should be all. Have you done that yet?

Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo? For example, I type "tsanding," and instead of changing it to "standing," it underlines it red. I know I can then right-click it, and select AutoCorrect > standing, so that, from now on, if the same exact typo arises in the future, in which I accidentally type "tsanding," it'll change it to "standing." I've thus far collected *hundreds* of specific typo corrections in this way. But that's very time-consuming, and is only a weak attempt at preventing typos I may be likely to make in the future (based on the fact that I made the exact typo at least once before). Is there any way to establish that I want Microsoft Word to go ahead and correct every single "underlined red" occurrence from now on, based on its best guess as to what I meant? (except in cases where the typo was so bad that it has no guess at all) That way, when it corrects something I *didn't* want corrected, I can then go back and add what I wanted to its dictionary, to tell it not to consider that word an accident from then on.

Answer:Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo?

Found this in the Word Help files. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options. In the Replace box, type a word or phrase that you often mistype or misspell ? for example, type usualy. In the With box, type the correct spelling of the word ? for example, type usually. Click Add. Is this what you're talking about?

So I decided to buy Windows 7 from eBay. I didn't trust the people selling product keys only, so I purchased a brand new retail package. When I shop on eBay, I always look for sellers that are really close to me so shipping is fast. So I found a seller, said to be located in Maryland (which is two states away from me), with a great price and great feedback for his W7 sells. I was pissed because when the guy sent me the tracking number, I found out that the item was coming from Beijing, China, not Maryland! But I figured, well at least he shipped it.

THEN, I get an email from eBay saying the listing for the item I just purchased because the copyright holder reported that the item may be a counterfeit. At first I was pissed at eBay because now I had to record of the transaction in my eBay account and could not contact the seller directly from within the item invoice, since eBay deleted. Plus, he had several other sells of this same item, all with positive feedback of the W7 package, and eBay did not remove the listings for them. So I was like, why me? Luckily, I had his email from paypal and contacted him. He assured me that he is the legal owner of the item and that he sent proof to eBay saying so. Still never got my records back.

Anyway, this prompted me to search counterfeit Windows 7 retail packages. I found some interesting info, but my package doesn't fit any of the counterfeit profiles Microsoft says to look out for. The top hologram is built onto the ... Read more

Answer:My Windows 7 copy looks counterfeit. Typo on back cover. Came from China (eBay). Pics

It's fake, that's pretty obvious. The hologram thing is most likely a sticker on top of the actual disc surface - you can use a fingernail or razor blade at the very edge and lift it up a bit, that's 100% proof. The part numbers don't seem to match up with the actual Windows 7 Ultimate part number, and it just has a fake quality all the way around.

If you contact Microsoft, show them the pics, explain where you bought it from and your situation, there is a small - small but it exists - chance they'll provide you with a key just for making the report and identifying the seller you got it from.

No guarantees, but at the moment you're better off reporting it to them and going from there. Sure can't hurt to let them know, either way.

I'd report it, personally, without even really thinking about it. It just SCREAMS fake.

Is there a way to make Internet Explorer's "New Window" button open my home page instead of the page that I was just on?

I like to open a new window and search something real quick on google (with it big, not using the searchbar in the top right as its tiny up there).

When you open Internet Explorer in a whole other instance, it uses memory that it would otherwise not use had you just opened a "new window".

So, is there any sort of registry tweak, etc. that could make "New Window" open my homepage instead of the page I was JUST on? That's not a New Window... That's the same Window...

Any help would be appreciated, thx.

Question: no home page

Hope this is the right forum for this question. I am running WinXP home on a 1700 AMD pc. I have comcast broadband for internet service. I have been on the phone with the comcast tech people several times with no resolution to my problem and would appreciate any help. For the past 5-6 days I have been unable to get any pages ie-my comcast home page- comcast help pages- comcast help forums etc- to come up. I can access Google, Yahoo, Netscape, and just about any other page I try. I have checked and comcast is set correctly as my home page. The comcast tech people finally told me they could not help and suggested I contact Microsoft because it must be something in my pc that is causing the problem. I have spybot search and destroy installed as well as ad aware. I have run both of these and found no problems. I have AVG antivirus program and have run this and found no problems. I have checked the spybot to make sure my home page was not being blocked etc. I am at my wits end. I can't afford to pay Microsoft big bucks for their advice. If anyone has any suggestions I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you
