Windows 7 64 - System Freeze and Lock-Up While Palying Long Videos Online???

Question: Windows 7 64 - System Freeze and Lock-Up While Palying Long Videos Online???

Hello. I need your help! I do not know where to post this thread because the source of the issue cannot be verified.

I notice after playing long videos on You Tube and other websites, my screen will freeze-up for a few seconds and then unfreeze on its own at times. Other times I have to close out of the browser in order to get the system to unlock or I just have to wait a few seconds for the system to unlock on its own. Seems to happen only while playing longer videos online. Other than that, this issue does not happen. This is all new and started happening the last few days.

I will not elaborate too many details at the moment. It is best to take this step-by-step then throw lots of data out all at once and have many long paragraphs to initially post. Please ask me questions if you need too. I will tell you, I have run full system malware scans using Norton 360 and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, nothing detected.

Some basic general stats of my system:
- Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit.
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 -- Yorkfield 2.83 GHz 1333 MHz processor.
- ASUS P5Q desktop motherboard.
- 8 GB of Corsair XMS 4x2 GB DDR2 RAM.
- XFX Radeon HD5670 Graphics Card.

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 64 - System Freeze and Lock-Up While Palying Long Videos Online???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 7 64 - System Freeze and Lock-Up While Palying Long Videos Online???

Both faults reference the same ATI/AMD driver, I'd download and install the latest driver, choose the drivers only package and uninstall the Catalyst Control Centre that you already have installed for less chance of bugs further down the line. The latest driver is here, top link.

Posting this for a friend, actually.

We just wanted to know how to report this problem of his where all of a sudden, he couldn't stream videos anymore without his laptop crashing.

Can I use the BSOD reporting tool for this even though he doesn't encounter the BSOD?

He can view video files (with VLC for example), but when streaming videos like on YouTube or Dailymotion... his system freezes immediately as soon as the video loads and all he can do is restart.

He's running Windows 7 Home Basic 32-bit on a laptop with the following specs:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40GHz
MoBo: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. R439
BIOS: Phoenix SecureCore(tm) NB Version 03US.M004.20100605.LEO
RAM: total memory 2.00 GB usable 1.93 GB
HDD: TOSHIBA MK3265GSX
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 545v
Audio: (1) ATI High Definition Audio Device (2) Realtek High Definition Audio
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Basic 32-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1

Answer:System Freeze/Crash when viewing streaming videos online

I have been having a strange problem since lastnight. Any time I try to play a video file it will just freeze on the first frame. A couple seconds later my entire system will freeze and the computer it self beeps once. Twice the computer has completely rebooted itself after trying a video. I booted in safe mode and the videos play, although a bit choppy and with no sound.

This all started after I set up my new DSL. During the set up I ran AT&Ts set up disc, which failed, and did a system restore to a couple hours before. I then scaled back the restore when I noticed this problem, but it fixed nothing. I spoke with AT&Ts tech support and they said the disc would not affect anything related to video and after speaking with their very friendly tier 2 tech support, I was directed here.

Since encountering this error I have installed new codec, the Combined Comunity Codec Pack, installed new video card drivers, a Radeon 9800xt, and reinstalled my media player, Zoom. I am running Windows XP SP2. If there are any other details I can provide just ask, and thanks for any help in advance.

Hello everyone,

I got a new Acer Aspire 7745G just a week ago, with a pre-installed Win 7 Home Premium 64 Bit system.
I can go on and on about what I installed on it so far, but I doubt it'll do much difference since I think I narrowed down the problem.
Basically whenever I try to watch online videos that are based on flash (for some reason it didnt happen to me with flash based online games) the computer freezes, screen goes black and there is an irritating sound from the speakers (depending on the last sound that was playing on the movie).
For now the problem seems to appear only on Firefox and Chrome, as the Internet Explorer seems to have worked around it and do fine... But I prefer using Firefox and this issue is very annoying.
I tried to look everywhere and noticed other people having similar issues but found no cure.
At one of those freezes, instead of freezing I got a popup message saying the ATI driver has been restarted which led me to believe it's either the graphic card or the driver.
Heavier games such as Fallout 3 work without an issue for a few hours on the computer, so I can only assume my Radeon Mobility HD 5850 is fine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers from Acer support site but the problem persists.
Obviously I also tried uninstalling the Flash player, and it didnt solve anything.

My computer has a function of switching the cards, from the HD 5850 to the Intel onboard one... Tried that, problem solved !

Just like the title, I will click on a video and it will start playing in 240p, then about the 10 second mark it will switch by itself to 360p. I have 6Mb, so really, I can handle 360p.

The only thing that changed before this happened was I installed a voice changer mod that changes your voice while you talk over a voice chat. So, why this started? I really don't know.

Hi turbow5! I'm not sure exactly what your problem here could be other than it might have something to do with the new installation that you did which could be causing a conflict with some of the drivers, etc.

However, there is a great program for free download that may be able to solve your problem! It is called YouTube Downloader HD and will give you the option to download from YouTube at 240p, 360p, etc. where it will "lock in" your choice. That may be what can help to stabilize the downloads so that they don't change in mid swing.

I want to ask where the online videos are buffered (temporarily ofcourse)in the system. If any one can tell me then I will be great full, actually I want to save videos from those sites also which do not allow downloads.... Thanx in advance

Answer:Where the online videos are bufferd in the system??

You will need to state your operating system and browser. In Windows Internet Explorer it is usually in the Temporary Internet Files. I used to save .swf files from there.

I am trying to solve this problem on a friend's laptop. It is a Sony Vaio with Windows 7 64bit, using Chrome. Bought within the last year. I can play videos from sites like youtube, hulu, and sports sites, but when I try to play a video from putlocker, gorillavid, or other streaming sites typically used for videos like anime or tv shows the video either doesn't load (just spins) or takes a REALLY long time to load, almost like it is downloading the full video before it plays.

I borrowed another laptop from the library which also has Windows 7 and Chrome and all the videos play fine on it using the same internet connection, so it is definitely something local to this machine.

I have searched the net for three days trying to find a solution, but to no avail. I have the latest versions of flash, java, etc. I have tried older versions of flash. I've disabled the antivirus and firewall. Disabled the built-in flash plugin for chrome. I really am not sure what else to do. If anyone has any suggestions I would readily welcome them. I have tried other browsers as well and had similar issues.

Answer:Online videos do not load or take a very long time to load

No ideas I guess?

Ever since (several times updated) v1703 my HP 840 EliteBook with powerful correct SSD and continually updated everything (incl. all drivers) will totally freeze/lock-up the entire system including the clock after 5 minutes idle (moving the cursor will reset the time limit). This also happens if it is in Sleep mode. The physical off-button and then starting always fixes it. Reliability history ALWAYS shows DIFFERENT paths and DIFFERENT failure "causes".

I have followed basically ALL the available online advice and the only cure I have not tried is disabling C-states in the (also updated) BIOS because there is no way to get into that in this HP device/BIOS. I have noted that many users have similar problems and that MS pussyfoots around but has no real idea (so there is no point in a re-install .... AND the problem started with v1703 and not with WInX Pro before that).

I'm running Vista (updated with everything available at the time of this posting) on my HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. Whenever I view a Flash-based video after the computer has come out of sleep mode (i.e., after I've closed my lid and opened it again several hours later), I get no video, the audio goes for about 1 second, and then the computer totally freezes. Since this only happens for online videos and the like, I figured it was my Flash plugin, so I installed the latest version and tried again. The problem persists.

Around the time this started, my computer also began displaying a "Task Scheduler Engine stopped working" message every time I boot up the system. I have no idea if this is related to the freezing problem, though.

Can anyone help me, or have I not provided enough information?

My Windows XP Pro PC (Asus p5 Series motherboard, Pentium 4 2.8processor, 2GB Ram, 512mb MSI Graphics Card, Matrox RTX100 Video card) keeps getting scattered glitches across the screen and then very soon after the system locks up/freezes and then sometimes completely crashes.
The computer was self built about 6 years ago mainly by a friend and its main purpose was to video edit but hasnt been 100% right from the start. I had used it ok and edited a few things but stopped using it for some time when it started to crash quite often. I tried using it agian recently but now I get this happening within the first 30min of using it.
One thing i always thought was that it got to hot, the software temperature gauge often showed it approaching red all the time. but this was confusing because I have 2 fans on the case (one in a flap out the top of the case_ plus I mounted a fan in a spare AGP slot near the graphics card.
I wondered if the CPU was still over heating and causing this, in that case I wouldn't have a clue what to do, or if the graphics card was faulty, in which case would I need a new one? I wouldn't want to spend a lot in case this wasn't the problem.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Hello Folks, I have an random system freeze when playing videos and the sound goes to static gibberish noise.time varies between start of video and freeze.  System is completely locked for anywhere from 10 sec to 3-4 mins and then continues on with video like nothing happened, except skipping 2-3 sec of the video/song. The B560 laptop is a little over 1 year old from Best Buy. 1 month ago the WD drive died. Installed new, reinstalled Win7-32, went to Lenovo site and applied latest drivers.  The problem now occurs since this rebuild. I ran Lenovo system check and all appears to be in working order.I would appreciate any info or suggestions on how to proceed with troubleshooting.Thank you .. -doug

Hi doug have you tried  checking  your Video card? Your sound  settings? sounds like a driver  conflict issue. Have  you checked if problem exists in Safe mode? Done any troubleshooting,Control Panel>Hardware and sound>Sound and/or Realtek HD Audio Manager, checked the settings there? And is your systems B?OS the latest available? Please give details as to what you have done. Have you also recently installed and or updated any program that  could possibly have caused this? Like VLC media player perhaps?

The whole thing started to appear around 3 days ago. The problem is that everytime I boot, windows 10 stays on a weird lock screen without any buttons for a long long time. There are just 4 icons in the bottom right corner (shut down, accesibility, ethernet...) It sometimes manages to get to desktop, and sometimes not. Not sure what caused it, could be a recent windows update, not sure tho. I ran some HDD scans and everything turned out fine, also did a registry cleanup, tried disabling lock screen, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or solutions?

Answer:Windows 10 stuck at lock screen for a long time

Welcome to the TenForums @Taukonza

Could you please review your update history and see if any updates for Windows or Drivers were installed in last week?

You mentioned when you boot. Not sure if this is happening on restart or power on or both. If it is power on booting can I suggest a quick test. Open a command prompt (admin) and type

powercfg -h off

This will disable hibernation and in turn Fast Startup. Test. If no change you can re-enable by typing

powercfg -h on

After you boot have you reviewed your Event Viewer to see if Windows is kicking out any serious errors to the system log?

Hey guys,

My Vostro is already in a bad condition but not physically. Some drivers do not work (e.g. webcam driver) properly. This Win10 is the fourth clean install on the PC (After 8 and 8.1), Windows Updates are enabled and installed automatically (for drivers as well). When I leave the computer alone for a long time, I have BSOD and (in the good case) an automatic restart.

Dell support is not available for Windows (drivers), because they sold this computer with Ubuntu

If you have any idea, I would be thankful.

Thanks in advance!

Hi hemy,

Welcome to the 10forums.

As I understand, the 0xEF(CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED) is usually caused by either malware or hard drive problems.
For now we can rule out hard drive problems as I don't see it back in the dumps

Please download and install Malwarebytes free (Uncheck trial version in the installation process)
Please run a threat scan with Malwarebytes, a full scan with your AV, scan your system with Adwcleaner and Kaspersky TTDSKiller.

Hello,

I for the life of me cannot figure out what the problem is. I have the same issue (video freezing when watching flash videos ie. youtube, VEVO etc...)I have updated my flash software as well as the driver for the video card and even tried another video card in my system. I find this very strange because it only seems to happen with Flash and no other video file format. Any help would much be appreciated as I have been struggling to have this problem fixed for months now.

Thanks

I was battling a virus yesterday trying to do everything I could to get rid of it, so I finally managed to get a system restore in to the day before. Everything was working fine except I noticed my explorer started locking up and such. So I restored to a point 15 days ago thinking it was still part of the virus, And now I'm not sure if this is part of the virus or not.

So how would I figure this out or even fix this? The only way for my computer to run smoothly afterwards is to force it to shut down, and I really hate doing that.

So I just installed Windows 8 on my system, and it was all going smoothly, until I got to installing Steam. After I clicked through a few menus, Steam finally started to install, but the progress bar never went up. If I tried to do anything else (Open task manager, stop the installation, etc...) everything would just lock up and I couldn't do anything.

At this point my only option was to restart, so I did just that. After about an hour of waiting for Windows to boot back up, I gave up and tried to do a system repair. This failed too, so I just re-installed Windows 8. I tried this 4 times. The first few times I thought it was because I might have had incorrect chipset drivers installed, but even when I did get the correct ones, it had the same issue.

At this point my only thought is that maybe I should do all available windows updates before I start installing steam? Otherwise, I'm out of ideas for getting this to work. It's also looking like this may be some sort of hardware failure, possibly ram?

So has anyone else experienced this, or do you have advice?

Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 ghz
Graphics card: HIS ATI Radeon 7770, 1 GB ram

Hi guys,

I'm a new member here and require help. I've put my specs up in profile so hopefully you should be able to see that.

I'll explain the sort of problems I've been getting recently. I used to get BSOD randomly about a month or so ago. Someone told me to do memory test and hard drive check, which I did. My pc was working fine for sometime after that, not sure if it was because of those tests. Anyway, so recently now when I watch video online within about 10-15 minutes computer freezes, screen freezes and I get weird noise from speakers. I suppose the noise might just be because everything froze. Funny thing is computer only crashes when I watch videos from one website. If I watch from youtube or somewhere else it doesn't, neither from any media player, vlc or other. That's one issue.

Second similar issue when I play online game (Cross fire), same thing happens. Within about 10-15 minutes it freezes, the weird noises don't come all the time though after it freezes.

Third problem, once the pc crashes and I shut it down directly, then I turn it back on, it turns on but doesn't respond, doesnt start windows or the screens that come before, monitor also doesn't turn on so just doesnt boot up the system. Sometimes it makes some kind of noise (not all the time), can't describe it really. After some time though when I turn it on it starts up normally.

I've tried to search and try to solve the problem but couldn't really understand what is causing the crashes. I looked int... Read more

Hi,I am having an issue with a lot of online videos not playing smoothly for me.Sites like youtube work perfectly fine, but others like Dailymotion do not play well at all. Most if not all NSFW sites have the same issue. This happens with both Firefox and Internet Explorer.I have ran a few scans with no issues found, and I have uninsalled/re-installed Adobe Flash as well with no luck.Any assistance with resolving my issue would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Online videos won't play smoothly! (Windows XP)

Did it worked before and what does it mean not playing smoothly? Could you provide a link to test.

I have been having problem with playing videos on my laptop since a week. When watch movies (any quality), after 2 or 3 minutes the video will freeze frames and if I move my mouse it gets okay for the next couple of minutes. This happens every time unless I use GOM player. GOM works nice without any trouble. Lately I saw that in game videos are also showing the same thing. My Laptop is Dell Inspirion 3542, 8GB, NVIDIA 820M (updated drivers) Please help.

A few days ago, some applications have begun to freeze right after startup. They don't respond for several minutes and then suddenly work completely normal. I've noticed this behavior in XBMC, Windows Media Player and an application that I've programmed myself (using Python and PyQt, not related to media playing).

The problem seems to be related to the file system somehow, as the freeze returns when I open a "Save as..." dialog in my application. However, other programs work fine, including "Save as..." dialogs. The event log does not show errors or warnings.

Answer:Minute long freeze in several applications (e.g. Windows Media Player)

Simple things first. Have you tried a system restore to before this started? Have you ran a system file check?

MSI K9A Platinum BIOS 1.7
2GB Corsair DDR2-800 5-5-5-18-2T
AMD AM2 6000+
Creative X-Fi Fatality
2 Diamond HD2900XT's

This board has the AMD crossfire chipset. If I hook up any USB storage device Windows Vista Ultimate x64 instantly hard locks. I then have to power off the PSU and wait 60 seconds before I can turn the computer back on. The power switch will be completely unresponsive until I do this.

If I have the USB storage device on and then boot up it will hard lock before I can reach the login screen. I can repeat this behavior.

I can also cause 5 to 10 minute delays during the Vista install by having a USB storage device attached. The slow downs occur during the initial menus.

Has anyone else seen this problem? This behavior does not occur under Windows XP. It has to be a problem between Vista and something on this motherboard. I also noticed AMD/ATI has never bothered to update the chipset drivers. I find it very hard to believe they are perfect and don't need any fixes.

I am already using the latest BIOS. Actually the problem occurs with 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7.

If I do a fresh install of Vista with a USB storage device attached everything seems fine at first. Then after a few reboots the hard lock shows up. I did extensive testing here. I logged the order in which things were installed/applied. Drivers, patches, etc. I removed all but the necessary component of one video card. Once the first hard lock occurs, any USB storage device causes the... Read more

Hello,

I recently upgraded my windows vista 64 to windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
After this my laptop (asus m51sn) started freezing when I watch videos only on Veetle.com and sometimes when I play online games. When it freezes the audio makes an extremely loud noise and the only way to fix it is to reset the computer.

I first thought it was my drivers and tried updating everything but it did not help. I also tried looking for some signs on the event viewer and i found that every single time before the crash this event occurred:

"TCP/IP failed to establish an outgoing connection because the selected local endpoint was recently used to connect to the same remote endpoint. This error typically occurs when outgoing connections are opened and closed at a high rate, causing all available local ports to be used and forcing TCP/IP to reuse a local port for an outgoing connection. To minimize the risk of data corruption, the TCP/IP standard requires a minimum time period to elapse between successive connections from a given local endpoint to a given remote endpoint."

Thanks for all the help as always

I've searched this site but haven't found any answers. If anyone knows if this has been answered please lead me to it. Also I hope this is the right place to post this.

No embedded WMP videos will play on my computer for some reason. Not on IE and not on firefox. Firefox pops up and says "cannot start directshow player." I didn't have this problem a while ago. Examples of places I cant play videos: gamespot.com and yahoo music. When detecting my settings it says it knows I have windows media, but cant authorize, find the actual program?

What do you think could be the cause of this? A codec problem? Spyware? Firewall of something?

Answer:I cant play embedded windows media videos online

Hi chuchubunny

A few quick-fix things to try:

1) Check the setting in Internet Explorer to "Play videos in webpages" [a checkmark in the select box = enabled .... Go to Start/Control Panel/Internet Options/Advanced ... Multimedia..."Play videos in webpages".
1a) Check that Parental Controls aren't blocking videos (whether or not you are a minor using an adult's computer .. if you are a youngster, make sure it's OK)
2) Try a System Restore. If the videos used to play just fine until recently, you can try using System Restore to recover system settings to a restore point from before the trouble started [Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore ... If you have any questions about the details of how System Restore works, visit the "Help and Support" articles built into Windows -- Go to Start/Help and Support]

See if either of those help

[If still no luck, post with info on what antivirus, antispyware, and firewall you are running - and any interesting settings you might have changed recently ... keep your antivirus, antispyware, and firewall running whenever connected to networks or to the Internet - even if the video problem persists = because the risk is too great. If you can, try an additional online scan from Panda, Ewido, Symantec, TrendMicro (HouseCall), etc... to double-check for malware (in case your locally installed programs have been compromised by malware already) ... if you find y... I don't know what to do; launch.com doesn't work. When I try to play a video, the media player configuration box comes up saying "click the i see the video button when you see the video." The video doesn't play. It says "stopped." At other streaming video sites, it just says loading... then "ready." Then when I press play it again says loading... "ready".

I don't know what to do I tried going to "help" at launch if the video doesn't play. That doesn't work.

I have windows XP.

Im at a loss at the moment. I cannot figure out why my wmp will not play streaming videos online. I've updated to wmp 11 and still nothing. Before I updated it kept wanting to install a plugin called Windows Media Player 11 but would never go through with the plugin install. I then just went and downloaded WMP 11 and updates which removed the prompt to install WMP 11 as a plugin. However now any time I go to any site with streaming video or music it says "connecting to media" then the status reads "ready". It will try to connect to media then say "ready" every time I click play. Anyone have any idea how to fix this or why its happening?

Answer:Windows Media Player Not Streaming Online Videos

you possibly need a codec, the link below is for codecs for XP, it contains all the codecs that will play most if not all video and music file types - install this and while installing, just install with all recommended options

Hello community, you have succesfully helped me in the past.
Unfortunately i'm experiencing BSODs while playing certain videos on youtube. I couldn't say that's the cause for sure, because it wont happen everytime.

Yesterday I was viewing an image with the windows image viewer when suddenly COM Surrogate stopped working and then the screen froze and the cpu restarted
About one week ago I've got another BSOD, while navigating but I don't recall playing videos.
I updated my graphic card drivers hoping that it would solve the problem but didn't have success, today another bsod while on youtube using internet explorer, while the same video played with graphical glitches in Mozilla.

No crashes while gaming,

I suspect that is some driver issue because the BSOD repeated these pattern:
Screen freezes for a second
Screen goes black
Screen turns on , but it's still frozen
CPU Restarts

I will update TWO zip files, first analysis is from today, and the other is two years old just for comparison when things were ok

ATI RADEON HD 7700

I know that there are hundres of posts similars like this one (crashes while on youtube, etcetera) but I just want to make sure that is a graphic driver related problem before I venture myself into fixing myself
Many thanks again for such great forum

Been doing some reading and ther are other people seeming to have something similar.  The Thinkcentre screen waits a long time to go away and I have made sure there are no USBs in the boot options and I just installed the latest BIOS ending in 60.  Also there is a long wait after the MS XP scrolling green bar goes away.  I hear the scanner recycle and there is still a long wait of maybe a minute or two before it continues.  Watching the disc light on the CPU, it flashes maybe 1 each second througout that whole time until finally windows continues.  I have not unplugged my external USB external discs yet.Any thoughts?ThanksCarver Smith

Answer:Long wait time for "System is Starting" to go away long black screen after MS XP logo

Well this is sad to hear that you are having similar problems.  I had hoped it was simply a power issue for mine. My system also seems to start extremely slow very similar to what you describe.  This seemed to happen after I installed a new PCIe graphics card.  I thought it might be that I am just pushing the power source to its limit and had hopes that it would go away when I upgraded.

There seems to be a lot of software junk attached to this unit. Anyone have any of the same problem. I've been having trouble with my computer being able to play videos longer than 2-3 minutes in length. I've tried dvds, real video, windows media, etc. When it gets so far into the video, it starts skipping where the sound will keep going for a little while, but the video will freeze on one frame. Then it will show maybe 1 frame every 20 seconds or so while the audio continues to play, or sometimes the audio will stop as well. I'm running antivirus and spyware crap and it's all up to date. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Can't play long videos

My video card is a Mobility Radeon 7500. I just did a test with the performance monitor up while I played a video. The video got to 20 seconds, then the audio and video simultaneously started lagging and skipping. While my computer was idle and not running anything, the cpu monitor was at 0%. While playing the video, it ran around 60-70%. While the video was skipping and stuttering, it would drop down to 20%.

Question: Freeze ups/lock up

I read somewhere that a possible cause of lockup/freezeup could be because of over heating or the fan not working? I have eliminated all forms of viruses/ worms  ect. by running a complete scan, and I've also removed all spyware/ adware.Besides physically looking at the fan is their a  easy way to test it before replacing?

Answer:Freeze ups/lock up

As of what I know a problem with over heating and fan issues wouldn't cause you to freeze, it would most likely cause a crash for the over heating issue which was set on by the fan issue. I'd have to say your problem lies else where. But if you want to double check just open up your side panel then turn on your computer and make sure you see the fans start.

Question: PC Freeze/lock ups

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice to try and track down a problem I've been having with lock ups.

It happens on windows xp aswell but since windows 7 I've been able to replicate it(i think) with windows media center, it only happens from what I've seen with a game open, on windowed mode (world of warcraft).

The keyboard and mouse does nothing to respond, but lights are still on them, the monitor turns onto standby.

It doesn't happen very often but with WMC open it's usually within about 10 mins..

I have ran memtest86 all night and it passed with no errors, and I've not seen it happen regularly with any other program, I assume they are related because of same symptoms.

I've tried many different drivers and checked all hardware is in correctly.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on this? would be really greatful!

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Freeze Lock

Hi and Welcome,
Sorry for the delay
I don't know if these simple thing helps but try these:
Perform a system file check please:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Then a disk check:
CHKDSK /R /F:
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt. Please do this for each hard drive on your system.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors. See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

Elevated Command Prompt:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).
Copy/paste the results into your next post.

Question: Lock up/freeze

Inserting a CD or DVD (especially a blank rewritable) occasionally causes PC lock up/freeze.
No cursor, no nothing; reboot required. No error message. No event error. ASUS P8P67le, I7-2600K

Thrice, in the past two days, a freeze occurred simply while idling. This is a new development. No optical drives in use.
To my knowledge, no new software, hardware or drivers have been installed, but for routine Windows Updates.

I have flashed the (old 2011) BIOS with the latest. ASUS does state that later versions incorporated stability improvements for W8. Time will tell. Suggestions welcomed.

I would suspect a settings problem. In my ancient laptop it takes 1.5 secs to lock and 5 to unlock. You could create another user and check the time there. If it is shorter you could transfer your things to it.

Question: Videos Freeze

I'm having problems with watching videos in browsers. Whenever I watch a video on Viki.com or youtube, the player freezes after a couple of minutes of playing. the image freezes but the sound continues playing. It even pauses if I hit the space bar. It's only when I'm watching videos in a browser. This problem doesn't occur when I'm watching videos on my computer with VLC, windows media player etc...

To "solve" the problem, I usually log off my administrator account and log back in however, this means that I have to restart new browser sessions and it's annoying- esp. since the videos have recently been freezing up more than previously.

I've tried updating Adobe flash player and I have the latest Viki desktop plugin installed so I don't know what the problem is. I hope someone can help.

Thank you.

Windows 7, 64 bit.

Answer:Videos Freeze

Video freezing mostly has to do with a graphic card over-heating issue which usually occurs in laptops but since you have clarified that you can play videos in VLC it may or may not be the problem. And it not only depends on your Adobe Flash Player but other factors for example your Browser also plays a key role in the video playback since different browsers run on different engines and interpret the webpage differently people might need to know your browser and its version in order to solve the problem. While I am not a Subject Matter Expert, but I guess I can suggest a few things given that I had some problems with the subject.

--> If you are using a laptop(especially ultra portable) with an integrated Nvidia mobile graphics processing unit,Purchasing a Notebook cooler might help you get over the problem.

--> Use Ccleaner it might make your system faster in general.Well at least it does it for me.

--> Try updating the your video card driver that just might solve the problem.

--> Try updating your current browser and Microsoft's silverlight the given website might be using silverlight which is a different technology and can play videos.

--> While its unlikely but there might be a possibility that the videos might be coded in HTML5, people usually get confused with a ADOBE video and an HTML5 video. Make sure that your browser supports HTML 5.

These things might be elementary but these just might solve your problem.

If you don't get a solution ... Read more

Question: videos freeze

From my checking. video issues tend to be driver related. I thought I had the most up to date driver. If it is driver related where's the best place for an update for :

Are old drivers supposed to be flushed before new ones are installed?

When I am connected to AOL, I get intermittent system freezes that each last exactly 20 seconds. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to when the freezes occur. Sometimes they seem to come in clusters of from 2 to 4 incidents. After the freezes, my system behaves normally. If I am typing text, nothing shows in the application until the freeze is over. Then whatever I typed is displayed as normal. When I log off from AOL, this problem never occurs. There are no related error messages in the Event Viewer. I connect to AOL using a 56Kb modem (HSP56 MR). My operating system is XP/Pro with IE/8. I am current on operating system and IE updates. I have McAfee virus protection, I am current on updates, and run scans once a week.

Answer:20 second long freeze when connected to aol

UPDATE: I replaced AOL's ISP service and this problem went away. So it definitely is a problem originating with AOL.

For some reason, whenever I attempt to play a video file (both via the internet and DVD), my computer locks up and I have to restart it. I have new video drivers, and all of the latest XP patches and player software. Before I reformatted my computer, the video worked fine.

I've tried downloading codec packs and DiVX players with no successful results.

I'm running: Windows XP Home, with an ASUS motherboard. Nvidia fx 6600 (direct x 9 c), 1 GB DDR pc3200, 120 GB Hardrive.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, I'm using this old dinosaur computer... the same one with the (now resolved) Picasa (non) issue.

If I don't do anything within a 15 minute period... say I walk away to go potty, have a smoke, etc., my whole system freezes... locks up. Control-Alt-Delete does nothing. The only way to get the computer to do ANYTHING is to use the "power switch" to turn the computer off.

When I turn the computer back on, it goes through it's abnormal shut down warnings, fixes, etc., then it's fine again.

The only thing I notice prior to doing the hard boot is a 1/4" strip of fine vertical stripes that runs all the way across the top of the screen. In case the color matters, those little fine stripes are bright green.

What say you?

Hello i just joined this comunity. forgive me if my grammar sucks.
I introduce myself in a desperate need of help , i just found this forum looking with google , i read some post about CPU lock up / freeze issues .
I will explain my problem at all aspects as possible so if someone can help me plz illl be so gladly.
My system specs. :
OS : Windows XP SP2 , Full Updated
Mobo : Asus A7n8x-e deluxe
Proc : AMD XP 3000+ buss 333mhz , with Thermaltake Volcano 12 cooler on it
mem : 2Gb total , Kingstone , (1Gb + 2 512 on dual channel)

Now , to the problem .
One day i was happy with my comp and suddenly boom system froze so i said huh wtf , i checked rams , HDs , Heat issues , and there was no clue of any troubling there but the thing was the problem was more and more bothering freezing my pc whenever it wanted to it , sometimes in periods from 10 minutes up to 15 hours but it would freeze at the end. So i started to get crazy about this . I read that could be produced by Power Supply fault , but the wonder of my was i bought this power supply just 2 months ago so huh there should be something else i though , good then i went to check the BIOS setting , i loaded full defaults , my lastest temperature check were , CPU : 41C , system : 21C , HD : 24C , so there were no prob to be a heat iss... Try updating your video cards drivers. The card may be going bad.

Your grammer does suck

Spell checkers work wonders for those who can't spell worth a darn. If you have a program like Microsoft Word, you can type a suspect work into the program and it will give you options as to its correct spelling. For example:

"I will explain my problem at all aspects as possible so if someone can help me plz illl be so gladly"

could be:

"I will explain my problem as clearly as I can. If someone can help, I would be very grateful"...

And "Greetings comunity"... greetings community

Hi,
My computer will randomly freeze, or the screen will go black and I can not do anything except a reboot.
My Pc is custom built (nothing is overclocked)
Specs:
Windows 7 Pro x64
ASUS M4A89GTD/PRO USB3.0
AMD PhenomII x6 1075T
2x WD Caviar blue 250Gg HDD in RAID 0
EVGA NVIDIA GTS 450
8Gb DDR3 1600 G.Skill Ripjaws

My PC got replacement RAM 2 weeks ago. This problem has been going before the RAM replacement too.

First, the symptoms:
The PC will run in standard mode, but it just locks up at any given time. My PC has not been running for a full 24 hours without freezing up since this all started about 2 weeks ago. I had my browser open listening to Pandora, suddenly the PC froze and the sound made a constant buzzing until I rebooted it. It led me to think the audio driver was bad, so I re-installed the Realtek audio driver (which I've heard can cause issues) and it still froze up. I re-installed Windows last week, because these problems were still occurring, but the re-install did not fix it.

Conclusion:
While in safe mode, or booted from a live Linux flash drive, my PC has no problems running. This leads me to think I have a driver issue in Windows somewhere. I went to the ASUS website and downloaded the most recent drivers, (except the BIOS, which could be an issue, but I've seen PC's seriously screwed over when a bios update goes wrong. So I've been trying to avoid that) and installed them, but still, no luck. Sometimes my PC will even do a CHKDSK upon ... Read more

Download and install it.

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers to check and make sure that the asacpi.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (notbefore).

Hi all
First off my specs are as follows:
.Windows 7 64 bit
.HD6950 2GB
.6GB Ram
.Creative sound blaster card
.AMD Phenom II x4 955 processor @ 3.20 GHz

About a month back now i stupidly let my brother try to over clock my processor via the bios, when i noticed an increase in cpu temperature, went up to around 60 - 70 c i immediatly told him to put it back to default, which he did, but the temp was still higher then it was normally... anyway i started getting BSOD (blue screen of death) randomly, also a strange crash too wen the screen would become very thin horrizontal lines of colour and the sound would become very distort (if i had any sound on at the time of crash) so i went out bought a new heat sink which brought the temp down to around a steady 30c, and at the time of installation i cleaned my comp out thourghly... everything was one fine, no problems until the other night (about 4 weeks down the line...) started again, BSOD, crash etc... so i formated my pc last night, soon as i got everything up and running again, i installed portal 2 to give it a whirl, i got 4 BSOD's and 2 crashes trying the game out, then i removed 2 of my 3 sticks of ram (hoping one of them could have failed) and i played the game for about 2 hours no problem, came off it and the computer just froze, no distorted sound, bsod... just a regular freeze, rebooted comp, bsod etc... so guys, im at my witts end here, i dunno what it could be, unless the processor is knackered now... anyway... Answer:crash, freeze, lock up

I doubt anything is wrong with your cpu - the computer wouldn't work at all if the cpu were fried.
Based on what's happening, I would test the memory with memtest 86+ as a first step.

You can find memtest 86+ here:
http://majorgeeks.com/Memtest86_d4226.html

You have to burn the .ISO to a cd, then boot from the cd to run it.

Question: online videos

When I open up my home page and there is a video to watch on it, the video is sorta blacked out or it is not seeable. If I move the page up and down I get to see it for a brief moment and then it is gone again. If I can get it to open in full screen I have no problems seeing the video. What can I do to see a video without having to pull it into the full screen? This also happens when I get on youtube also. Sometimes I can't find the button to go to full screen. Any ideas? Answer:Online Videos

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to one of the video files you want to open.

Right click on it and select "Open With"

Select the application you want to open this type of file, and tick the box "Always use this application..."

Repeat for each file type.

If you don't get an "Open with" option, try right clicking the file while holding down the Shift key.

I can't seem to watch a video on ANY site. It is a constant stop. I don't play games, I don't keep music on my computer. I work from it but only to save some documents and email constantly. New T530 with SSD takes minutes to boot to useable state:Desktop comes up fast, but continuous hard drive activity for two minutes on bootup, and screen is locked up (can't start anything).Every so often while I'm in a program the pointer goes into the rotating circle mode, also, so it appears something is popping in there. Any thoughts on why this is happening and what I can do to get the same fast boot time as my T500 with an SSD?I've gotten the most recent updates from Lenovo and Microsoft (including latest BIOS update, which didn't help).Ran MalwareBytes and CCleaner, which don't show anything bad. Very disappointed so far.

When it hangs while you are running, hit ctrl-alt-delete and choose task manager to see what is using CPU time. Are you using something like a domain controller for authentication? If so, is it always available? Often, this kind of problem occurs when searching for network shares

System is HP Compaq running Windows 7 64-bit OS upgraded form Vista. When I play Candy Crush on Facebook, the fan in the front sounds like it's running much faster to the point is making revving noises. If I quit the game, the fan goes back to sounding normal in a few minutes. I checked the internal temp and the motherboard temp is 52. I don't notice this fan noise playing other online games. What could be causing this? Is it normal?

Answer:Fan Goes Crazy when palying Candy Crush

I think what's happening in that case is that the system is trying hard to keep up with the resource demand placed on it. I have had a similar issue with other FB games. Do you have any other programs running other than the browser?

Hi,

I'd really appreciate it if someone could look over these files and see if you can find the reason why my PC got a this strange BSOD's.

I consider my self a advanced user but this beats me. I suspect to be the video card ... or maybe drivers related.

what I already done:
- Memtest86+ more that 2 hours everything OK
- constant control of system and gpu temperature (and other stats) also in game paly (with MSI Kombuster + HWiNFO64) everything OK
- other minor checks including also a windows reinstall

The family here likes to play online games through Publisher's Clearing House.
Last few months, about once a month, the site quits responding.
PCH responded to my inquiry that I needed to clear cookies on my computer and load all over again, then sign back on to their game site.
Before I could figure how to do all that, we were able to sign back on as if nothing had happened. Now it has stopped responding again.

I run XP pro on a clone, with Mozilla OP.

I did a quick check on several sites, to include other PCH sites, and have no problems. And, if this cookies aspect is the problem, why can I sign on successfully for weeks, then suddenly I cannot get logged on, and then I am able to sign on again? My reasoning is if something is wrong with my system or whatever, I would stay locked out.:banghead
