ACER 6920G Keyboard, Sound and touchpad stopped working

Question: ACER 6920G Keyboard, Sound and touchpad stopped working

Hi,
My neighbours computer is an Acer Aspire 6920G that is 9 months old, it has just come back from the store she brought it at and still has the same issue.
It runs Vista Home Premium, which I am not familiar with.
The machine boots fine, but does not recognise the keyboard, touchpad, and now has no sound drivers or options.
The machine was not sold with a Vista disc, just a generic recovery disc that does not allow me to use the SFC /scannow or repair console.
I am familiar with XP to intermediate, but never used Vista before.

Can anyone please help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've tried everything! In the bios setup (f2) the keyboard works! I tested the keyboard and touchpad using the rescue and recovery CD and functioned! Is not a physical problem because I put a HD from another T61 and both peripherals are working again! So I think the problem is in the operating system Vista 32bits. Has anyone experienced this? thank you

Answer:The keyboard and the TouchPad stopped working!

Hi, Rabbitvix

I haven't experienced this issue, but the fact that the keyboard works in BIOS but not in the OS indicates a software issue, not hardware. I would recommend booting the machine in Safe Mode to see if this helps. If the TouchPad and the keyboard resume functioning in Safe Mode, then we may be able to solve this issue by removing a driver.

To boot into Safe Mode in Windows Vista:

Start the computer from cold boot.
When the splash screen appears (says "Lenovo) being tapping F8 repeatedly.
Continue tapping F8 until a menu appears.
Select Safe Mode.
Hit Enter.
The computer should now boot to Safe Mode.

Also, one final question: If you plug in an external mouse, does this function well, or does it experience problems as well?

Best of luck,
Adam

My touchpad suddenly stopped working and I don't know what to do about it. I've beening looking around the web for tips and tricks but to avail. I tried Fn+F7 and various similar combinatins but they don't work. I also tried going into my mouse settings to see if it was disabled. It was enabled and said it was working just fine. I then decided to do a MBAM scan because I thought it could be a virus that is casuing the problem and no threats were detected. I then read that pressing F2 during start-up and enabling the touchpad through there is an option. I tried that and the option to enable touchpad wasn't on my laptop. Finally, I read that going back into windows 8 and doing some stuff with the BIOs could help, but this is a used laptop and apparnetly used to operate Windows 8 (can't confirm though) before I got it but I don't think I can change it back. The only temporary solution I have is using an extenral USB mouse, but I want to use my touchpad as well. Help, what do I do? Thanks in advance!

i have read about similar problems on here but none of the solutions worked for me. the keyboard seems to work just fine until the "starting windows" screen appears then absolutely nothing. i've tried reinstalling the alps pointing device drivers, i uninstalled then installed the newer version, nothing seems to work. the computer was working just fine until i came home from work and turned it on. this same problem happend about 2 months ago and it magically fixed it self, i just never turned the computer off again. i have 2 identical sony vaio VPC-EB33FM/BJ models, and have compared all the drivers and settings, they are the exact same (except the newer version of Alps on the broken one). i ran one of those "scan for new drivers" programs that ask for money to update drivers that it says are old and it said that the HID keyboard device driver is way out of date along with several others, but once again they are the same as the ones on the computer i am using now and this one works like a champ. anyone have any ideas? would be truely grateful for all input, thank you.

Hi

My netbook is a Samsung n145plus and has 8.1 installed with all updates. (even if it's not officially supported but it works amazingly fine)

I've installed the officia Samsung Elan touchpad driver as it seemed to work fine (it's for Win 7) except when scrolling with the edge of the pad because a Elan window appears on the taskbar and was annoying so I installed a newer driver but for a gateway laptop it installed fine but it wasn't detected by Elan in control panel so I removed it.

Now both the keyboard and touchpad stopped working and Windows says code 19 for keyboard and code 10 for touchpad. A USB mouse works fine. I've reinstalled both with Device Manager without success. Now the netbook is almost useless
Thanks

Answer:Netbook keyboard and touchpad stopped working

Reinstalled twice the Elan driver and now both it and keyboard work I don't know what does the KB have to do with the touchpad...
Now I will try to fix the aforementioned bug when edge scrolling

I have the keysonic ACK-340BT keyboard with touchpad and left-right buttons, i was using with an acer tablet and win 8. After upgrading to 8.1 the touchpad and buttons stopped working, rest of the keyboard works. tested on another 8.1 machine and same issue.

So something changed from 8 to 8.1 that made the touchpad not working, any idea what?

I have a just over one year old (~14 months) Dell Inspiron 17 laptop with Win 8.1 (no touch) and of course it's out of warranty. The mouse simply stopped working, no cursor. I was able to use the touchpad but then that quit too in quick order.
I spent hours searching here and the interweb looking for possible fixes, so far no luck.
The worst of the issue is now I can't get past the splash screen to the login screen to access the repair/restore functions in Windows.
How do I access these when I can't even login to the computer?

Answer:Mouse stopped working, then touchpad, then keyboard

I called Dell and they want almost $300 to send it back so they can 'look at it'!
Any thoughts or suggestions to solve this issue?

Sounds like hardware problem.
Try to set the notebook back to factory settings. I guess you would need to use an external USB keyboard in case the internal keyboard does not work.

Here an instruction how to perform a System Recovery?

Hello everybody

I have a serious problem in my Satellite A300-243. I installed using a CD a driver for external keyboard and after I restarted both keyboard and touchbpad stopped working and taking any order when I reach the vista welcome page.
What should I do because you know even I cant enter the windows to uninstall that driver.

Any way to do it while windows starting up?

Answer:Satellite A300-243 - Keyboard and touchpad stopped working

Hello

Why you installed a driver for external keyboard? I never heard about such drivers?

Anyway, you should try to boot in safe mode and then you are able to remove external keyboard driver from software list. After restarting in normal mode, the touchpad and keyboard should work properly again.

Forgive me if this is in the wrong area.
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It kept prompting me to upgrade to Windows 10, so I did so.
Now the button that disables my touchpad (also the F5 button) is not working.
The touchpad will not turn off.

Secondly, when I try to move the cursor, the "right click" menu pops up wherever the cursor lands, and it will not let me type. I have to use an external mouse to click out of the menu, then put the cursor back where I wanted it to land.

How can I make the disable button on my keyboard work again, and how can I fix the mouse so that the right click menu only comes up if I actually right click?

Thank you!

Hi guys
As of yesterday afternoon my laptop was working fine. and then AVG told me it needed to restart for whatever reason, so I did. When the laptop booted up again, it came to a blue screen with alot of text, and hung there for a few seconds before telling me my computer had an error and that I should run an automatic repair. After about 15 minutes of the automatic repair, the laptop switched on again, and all seemed fine, however, the touch pad, including the left and right buttons of the touchpad, the sound, USB drives and the CD rom drives have all completely stopped working. I have no idea what may have caused this.
with my very limited knowledge of computers, I booted the laptop back up in safe mode, and the touchpad was working, but no sound or usb etc (i'm not sure if that is standard for safe mode anyway). I figured it may have been something to do with drivers, so I tried to update them but with no success, however I did 'roll back' the driver on the touchpad and that now seems to be working, although with very low sensitivity.
I've tried to restore the laptop back to an earlier date, but it just won't let me. In safe mode it says the System Protection is switched off, and when I try to switch it on following the windows help direction, it just won't let me. And when i've tried to do this out of safe mode, but again it won't work, a Lenovo message pops up saying 'Lenovo Instant Reset system software has been enabled. The windows System restore function is disabled... Read more

Answer:Touchpad, Sound and USBs all stopped working..

In normal mode uninstall the drivers for the usb and sound.
then reboot
windows should find and reinstall the drivers.
once usb is working then try the same with the touchpad. (if it doesn't work at least you can use a usb keyboard to try the touchpad drivers again.

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, go to control panel, uninstall "Launch Manager" in Programs, download from here and re-install it:
Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site
Try different drivers for synaptics, for example, Acer Aspire E1-572 Synaptics Touchpad Driver 17.0.6.13 for Windows 8.1 64-bit Drivers download - Synaptics Software Update
EDIT:
If you find ETD Ware in Programs, right click and uninstall it, that's your Elantech but I couldn't see it in your Device manager.

I have had this notebook for a few years and it has performed well. Today however I brought it out of hibernation mode, and it beeped. The keyboard and touchpad were not working. I restarted the computer and it beeped as it was loading, giving a message that said "Keyboard not detected." Once windows booted up, same problem. I shut down and restarted, same problem. I then unplugged everything, took the battery out, put it back together, and now it works fine. I'm a little concerned about this. Is this an indication of a possible hardware failure, or could something else more innocuous be causing it? Thanks in advance!

Hello. I am hoping that someone will have a solution to some weirdnesses going on with my Acer 5050. It came with Vista but I reformatted the hard drive and installed XP. Everything had been going smoothly until I decided to download Service Pack 3. While Service Pack 3 was downloading my network hiccuped or something and Service Pack 3 was aborted mid download. After that happened the computer was a complete mess, so I reformatted the hard drive and re-installed XP. I am now at the point of downloading all MS XP updates, virus protection, anti-spyware etc.

The problem I seem to be having is sometimes after a reboot the touchpad and keyboard will not work. An external wireless mouse will though. I find if I do a reboot both the touchpad and the keyboard will come back to life but often when the touchpad and keyboard will not work the computer will not reboot, I must pull out the battery to get the silly machine to reboot.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Brenda

I just recently encountered a problem with my Acer Aspire E3-112 notebook keyboard that I had been able to fix and would like to share the solution with anyone who may encounter the same problem. I had used a USB flash drive to copy some files without any issues. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that the 8 key on the keyboard had stopped responding, but all other keys worked as normal. I had pressed Fn-F11 (NumLk) and the 8 key started working again. Pressing Fn-F11 again disabled the NumLk mode, and the 8 key also stopped working again. I tried rebooting the notebook, shutting down and powering back up, reinstalling keyboard driver, etc, but nothing worked. To rule out Windows OS related settings, I rebooted into BIOS, and noticed that the 8 key still didn't work when I tried to change the time, but the other number keys worked fine. The solution that finally solved the problem was to shut down the notebook, and then using a paper clip, push it into the Batery reset pinhole on the bottom of the notebook for four seconds. Upon normal powerup, the 8 key started working again. If your notebook has a removable battery, then removing and reinstalling the battery might have the same effect.

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and have a request for help,

I have an Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG with the following spec:

Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG NX.RYKEK.010

Except i'm running windows 7 and have just the 500GB HD on its own.

I only have had it since christmas and have been VERY happy with its performance so far...

BUT lastnight I switched it on and the keyboard and touchpad is completely unresponsive, when I went into control panel-hardware-keyboard there was a red "x" symbol beside it and when I ran a diagnostic on it it stated the driver wasn't installed properly and searched itself for a fix, It seemed to find something and tried installing it but then reported it wasn't installed properly.

I restored the laptop to two different previous restore points with no effect and so have since undid all restores (using the onscreen keyboard and a mouse).

I have tried pressing F2/F6/F8 on startup but with no effect....

I have seen a fix that has seemed to work for people where they disconnect the power lead and battery, press and hold the power button for 30-45 secs, connect just the battery and reboot, however my battery is internal and can't be clipped out like most laptops...

I'm running out of ideas and most driver update sites seem to be a trick to get you to install their software for free then charge you for anything else so any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, I don't want to have to get an external HDD, back everythin... Read more

Oddly enough, I could not find official keyboard drivers for your model, only touchpad drivers.
I'm assuming that your keyboard uses a windows included driver.

These are for Windows 7 64bit.

I was playing a video game on my laptop around 4:30, when the keyboard suddenly stopped working. The mouse still functioned, so I tried clicking around to see if it was just a problem with the game. Then at 4:32, the mouse stopped working, too. I decided to try turning it off, but neither holding nor pressing the power button worked, so I unplugged the laptop from the charger and left it to run out of power on it's own. At 4:35, the display froze. I know this, because up until then the clock was still working. Currently, the vent fan is still running, and the screen is frozen. No keyboard buttons work, and neither the built-in trackpad nor an HDMI mouse is working. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or do I need to send it in?The laptop was a brand new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series, with Nvidia GeForce GTX and an Intel Core i7.

Hello,

I wanted to upgrade the drivers of my Moms Laptop which is 2 year old. Buy holiday gone haywire! Here's what I did:

1) Uninstalled all Drivers from Windows XP Add/Remove
2) Flash the BIOS successfully to 2.4 version. Reboot to Windows was normal.
3) From the regional Acer website, I downloaded all drivers. These are the driver list for info (not download this site):

http://www.laptopdriversfreedownlo [...] 32bit.html

4) I started with Chipset, then Video, Network, Sound, and last one was Bluetooth.
Problems:

a) Realtek Sound doesn't show up in the Device Manager (sound device disable).
a) MODEM driver doesn't install (no idea why).

NOTE: before I fiddled with this Laptop, there were no problems (a) and (b) at all.

Now I'm bewildered because I've played with dozens of Laptops (Windows/Linux/Mac) but never encountered such a stubborn problem (It was a lesson learned - never be too confident!!)

I'm not clear where I gone wrong? Assuming, does Acer laptops need drivers to be installed in a particular order? Sorry I'm somewhat new to this make.

Looking forward for your inputs.

Big thanks.

Hi there,

I have an Acer Aspire 6920G. It came pre-loaded with Windows Vista which I reluctantly used for about a year before having enough. The laptop itself became very slow, even after giving it a good clean out.

I wiped the drive and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. I've installed all the drivers and AVG software. The laptop was performing great (as expected). I installed League of Legends and I played several games at a good healthy 55 fps. It then started getting random fps drops right down to 15fps. Now its constantly in the 25 fps mark and I haven't added or taken anything away from the laptop.

Anyone come accross this before? I am playing the game on the lowest settings so should easy be hitting 60fps.

Just to confirm I have 3 GB Ram and not 4 like you might see in reviews.

What's also odd is that on the windows experience index (in the control panel), the laptop is only scoring a 3.1 in the dual core processor and RAM. Surely this should be higher?

Edit: It's also really noisy (like the fan is on full speed), even when im on the character select screen. Is this an overheeting problem? You'll see from my other post that my PC is currently in pieces so would be good to sort the lappy out !

Any help and suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Jon

My Acer Aspire 6920G was working no problems one day then the next it did not boot (an error message appeared saying it could not find an operating system) after first thinking the hard drive was busted i replaced it with a new one but it could not see the new hard drive either, so after a diagnostic at my local pc shop it turns out the problem is a little worse than a dodgy drive: my laptop doesnt seem to be able to find any hard drives! They reckon there is a hard drive controller issue. I read somewhere on the net that by changing the hard drive controller settings in the BIOS this problem can be sorted, however my current BIOS does not give me the options to change hard drive controller settings! is there a BIOS upgrade i can apply that gives me these options? or is there perhaps another solution to this problem?

Here is some awesome music, while you read: T?r - Sinklars V?saI have an Acer Aspire 6920G laptop... or maybe it's a 6920 without the G?You see, my laptop has a sticker on it that says "Aspire 6920G". Right there! You see it?But, dxdiag says otherwise: No G!I'm planning to format and install Win7, but that G is confusing me! Should I get drivers for 6920G or no G? Is the G there just so Acer can sell this thing for a little more?Is there a difference between the two, and should I listen to dxdiag or the sticker? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Windows 7 on an Acer Aspire 6920G or no "G".

What about the documentation that came with it? Packing slip, invoice, manual, etc...what do those say?I cannot see the sticker picture clear enough to confirm whether the G is there or not (although I assume you can read it since that's what you're posting about).Try seeing what Everest says. I wouldn't necessarily trust dxdiag with something like this. But, then again, the sticker I cannot see clearly could also be wrong.Could you please take a close-up picture of the sticker? Thanks. In the mean time, I will search the web for the differences between the G and non-G models...

I have an Acer Aspire 6920G Laptop and I want to connect some Creative 5700 5.1 Speakers to it, what is the best way to do this. I have tried connecting the Inspire 5.1 decoder using a din cable and then into the laptop (via the headphone/spdif/line out socket), but I get no sound. I have been into the control panel and selected 5.1 sound, but that still does not work. The soundcard is Realtek HD Audio.

See below for some pictures of the connectors etc.

Did you remember to set the default playback device in the Windows playback properties to SPDIF/digital? If you left it set to speakers, that could be why you're not getting any sound. Also I assume this is what you used for the connection,

It is possible that the DIN connection will only work with Creative sound cards. If that is the case try it using the single connection from above for 2 channel audio, and then use either CMSS or Dobly Prologic to upmix it to 5.1.

You might even be able to get away with the coax connection using the same single cable as above from the laptop and one of these,

I was prompted to update my adobe reader as it was out of date so I began downloading the new version. When the download reached 96% it then began to freeze and would not continue for over 5 minutes. At this point I then lost the toolbar on the bottom of the screen and the laptop began to freeze. I turned the laptop off by holding down the power button as I was unable to do anything. Now when I try to turn the laptop back on I get the message 'Wondows Error Recovery' and the option to 'start windows normally' or 'launch startup repair'. I selected 'launch startup repair' and the laptop then begins to attempt to start but then goes back to the 'Windows Error Recovery' page. This also happens when I select to 'start windows normally'. I have also tried starting the laptop up in safe mode but again the same thing happens. It will not load up windows and keeps restarting.Could you please tell me how to fix this. I have some important documents on the laptop which I don't want to lose. If I restore the laptop to factory settings I will lose this data so is there a way I can at least take the information off before restoring the laptop? Thanks for any help.

I have recently updated the BIOS on my E530 laptop to version 2.08 (the previously installed version was 1.xx, probably 1.37 as far as I remember, but am not sure about the exact version..). After the update the laptop keyboard and touchpad stopped working in Windows. The keyboard does, however, work in the BIOS and both (keyboard and touchpad) work when the computer enters the Windows-startup-help screen (where it suggests to fix hard drive errors etc.).I am using Windows 8 all along and before I never had problems with my hardware. Now both the keyboard and touchpad are recognized in Window's Device manager, but are known to have troubles. There is also a PCI Device recognized in the category "Other devices", but it's missing any drivers (I wonder if there is a connection..). All those three are recognized as such by the Lenovo Solutions Center as well.I have tried reinstalling the UltraNav drivers, but it wouldn't help. Also, I've tried finding any possible configuration regarding my problem in the BIOS, but was unsuccessful. If I attach an external mouse or keyboard, they work.I really don't know what else to do to get my laptop's keyboard & touchpad working! I would be more than happy if anyone could help. The complete description of my laptop is: ThinkPad Edge E530 (3259-HLG), running Windows 8 (x64).

Answer:Keyboard & Touchpad stopped responding!

Hey there Green1230 and welcome to the forums!

This is a rather unusual problem your having, within the Device Manager, are there exclamation marks next to keyboard and mouse? For the unknown device could you please do the following:
- Open Device Manager and right-click on the first of the problem devices.
- Select Properties from the pop-up and switch to the Details tab of the new window.
- Select Hardware Ids from the Property dropdown menu.
- Copy the information from the Value section of the window and paste back here.

This will help us determine the other device driver. If you could also check that you have up to date:
Power Manager Driver
Intel Chipset Driver

You mention already updating the UltraNav Driver(v 16.2.9.3), if you have not already, try uninstalling it completely first, downloading the file and running it from your desktop. I hope this helps.

Try performing a refresh if you can, should that fail, a reset to start over. If you are having issues getting into Windows itself to perform the refresh/reset, here is an article that might help.

I just bought an Acer Aspire 6920G (Windows Vista) I'm trying to install some games onto it. I was installing the Sims 2 and then it it froze up. So I restarted the computer. Later on I tried to install it again but whenever it read the disk it didn't read it as Sims 2 ... it was just a disk. When I tried to start it up through the computer panel it asks me to label the disk and thinks that the disk is blank (although it shows that there is 0MB free). I've been trying other disks and the same thing happens to them. It is definitely not the actual game disk, cause I've tried it on my other computers and it works fine there.Any ideas on how I can fix this?thanks.

My blu-ray player on my acer 6920g laptop wont spin the disk..........

PLEASE HELP

i bought the laptop at the begining of 09 and the blu-ray worked fine. i watched a few movies but have not bothered again until recently when i rented two from blockbuster online and none of them work, the disk just wont spin. it try,s to about 3 or 4 times you can here it start then start again, the rest of the dvd and cd rwr all work fine.when i go to the disk drive myself and click on it it just popes the disk tray out as if theres no disc.been through a million checks everything looks fine downloaded a microsoft fix it tool that checks cd a and dvd drives that asks for media to scan to finish the checks when i tried to use the blu-ray disk it told me to insert readable media.so its as if the dicks are faulty but they look good too. ive got a feeling iv picked up an update that i hav'nt noticed as i wasnt useing the blu-ray or a virus thats killed it please please help

Answer:My blu-ray player on my acer 6920g laptop wont spin the disk?

Sorry, but i was having trouble understanding one part, You said that regular CD/DVDs work while BlueRays do not, correct?
If that is the case then that would mean that the disk spins initially, but does not continue to load (as in it stops spinning).??

could you please verify on these. Also, you should probable go over to our Hardware section as they would be able to help you better.

Dear Support,
I have a Dell VOSTRO 3560 laptop that has an Elan Tech SmartPad touchpad. I like its responsiveness very much.
Unfortunately, I recently spilled a bit of coffee and some of that went under the touch pad left and right buttons. The buttons stopped functioning but the touch pad itself is still very good.
Even before the spill I rarely used the buttons. I always used the touch pad to tap to click and two finger tap to right-click.Strangely though, after the spill when the hardware buttons stopped working, the tapping on the touch pad also stopped working. I made sure that the touch pad still can do tap clicking by uninstalling the Dell TouchPad driver and reverting to the Microsoft Mouse PS2 driver. In that case I can use the tap to click feature but only for 1 finger tap. I do not get any other feature as the driver is the simple generic MS one.
My question is would it be possible to still use the Elan tech provided (Dell TouchPad) driver and somehow configure it to accept the tap to click and two finger tap to right-click? This in addition to all the remaining scrolling and gesture support that the driver implements? I tried all the Dell Touchpad settings applet but nothing changed. Perhaps a registry value setting in the section for the elantech?
What seems to be happening now is that the driver is doing some hardware diagnostics, determining that the hardware buttons left and right are not working, and consequently completely disabling left and right click comm... Read more

I'm running a Flex-3 with Windows 10. Have not made any recent updates or changes to the system, but integrated keyboard and touchpad have stopped responding. USB keyboard and bluetooth mouse work normally. I'm simply trying to confirm if it is a hardware (motherboard) issue since that seems to be the most likely, but Troubleshooting and the Lenovo Solution Center scans indicate no issues. I updated keyboard driver to no effect. One strange result, if I disconnect all USB and Bluetooth devices and reboot, the Touchpad will again respond. Keyboard will not. As soon as I activate Bluetooth mouse, touchpad stops working. Thank you in advance.

Ok here is the story that is toying with my mental health...

I consider myself to have a fair knowledge of Windows Oss, since i've been using/tweaking them for the past 13 years. I recently decided, after getting some incentives from the fact I had a Linux pc at work, to install on my Acer Aspire 5672 laptop, Ubuntu, and switch from a dual-boot Windows XP SP3/WIndows Vista SP1 system to a Windows XP SP3/Ubuntu one. Everything is fine for a while, I upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04, to Ubuntu 8.10 and a couple of weeks pass where I was messing up linux while learning. So at one point I decide to reinstal Ubuntu.

I am saying all of the above not to necessarily link the events that led to what you will read next, but to create a timeline...the events can as well be completely irrelevant to each other.

I reinstall Ubuntu 8.10, do all the updates and finally when all is set and done, I decide to boot in Windows. Curiously enough GRUB was not touched from the whole reinstallation process. I log into windows and the system starts to hang, taking 15 minutes to boot. Got stuck on the loading after the welcoming screen, showing only desktop and no bars/icons. After it eventually loaded, my keyboard and touchpad didnt respond at all (although they do respond in BIOS). My USB connected mouse worked. I decide to do a couple of restarts to see if the problem persists. Yes same issue. I log back into linux. Touchpad, keyboard works like a charm. No problem there.

And here is the chain of e... Read more

The Synaptic Touchpad on my E3-112 has stopped working. It was working fine and has done for months and is still working in Ubuntu 15.04 (its a dual boot machine) but it has stopped in Windows. The cursor just isn't there and no matter how many times I click it doesn't appear. I have pressed Fn F7 but this doesn't solve the issue. I have checked the device manager and I do not have any devices that are flagged as not working. I've dowloaded the most recent driver from teh Acer website and this hasn't help. I'm not aware of any updates that have been installed lately other than the normal Microsoft Tuesday monthly patching and I've not installed any software in the past couple of months.

Okay, so, I installed windows 7 on my lenovo thinkpad sl510 which had windows vista previously (the touchpad was working then). When I installed windows 7 I installed the following: windows 7 chipsetthinkvantage software. once I started up windows 7, I found that my touchpad doesnt work (keyboard works fine, but mouse cursor does not move), so I figured it was a driver error thing, meaning all I had to do was install the proper drivers. And so I did! I ran system update via thinkvantage software and installed all critical, optional, and extra drivers/software. Guess what? Touchpad still doesnt work...I am stuck using an external wireless mouse. The touchpad I know does work, as it was when I had windows vista operating on it. So, If this community forum can help me solve my problem it will definately be appreciated, as this is my only machine. Thank you!

Hey everyone this is my first post here,
I'm hoping to get some guidance to resolve and issue I've been having with a laptop I am trying to refurbish. It's a HP Pavillon TX1000 I got from a friend. I put in a new Western Digital scorpio Blue HD and installed Vista Home.
Everything seemed fine but after installing drivers from the HP site and antivirus and malwarebytes, the touchpad stopped working. It had been fine beforehand. I had to plug in a USB mouse which works fine.
So far I've tried these things:
In control panel looking at the mouse settings the Synaptics Touchpad is greyed out and I can't enable or disable it. I can only remove the usb keyboard driver.
I system restored but it hasn't helped.
I download the Synaptics Touchpad driver again and reinstalled it, but it didn't make any difference.
There is a button above the touchpad which is supposed to enable and disable the pad but pressing it makes no difference, the blue light shows it's enabled but it's not.
I am trying a windows reinstall but even during that I am having to use the usb mouse.
Any ideas what I can try next???
The laptop specs are: The laptop specs are: AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-58 1.90 GHZ

i have a compaq 1720us with a synaptic touchpad. it has worked great until tonight. something has got changed somehow, somewhere. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers, i am using windows xp pro.

the one thing i have noticed is this... if i go into the control panel/system/hardware/device manager/mice or other pointing devices/synaptic touchpad in the general tab where you can normally select "enable" or "disable" this device, it is grayed out, with nothing in the box and i cannot select it at all.

all of the other devices in my pc allow me to select this option. i can plug in my usb mouse and it works just fine. but it's not very useful while traveling wich i do several times a week usually.

any help would be great. i have just spent about two hours on chat with hp/compaq doing all of the stuff they tell me to do, even though i did most of it before i called them.

the touchpad does not work in safe mode, it does not work in selective startup mode using msconfig.

i give up!!! HELP!!!

Answer:touchpad has stopped working

What is the make and model# of your laptop?
Boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals and look for Touch Pad, if it is Disabled, Enable it.
boot normally, and go to the computer manufacturers Support/Download drivers site and type in your make and model # or your service tag # and download the touchpad driver for your model.

i have a compaq 1720us with a synaptic touchpad. it has worked great until tonight. something has got changed somehow, somewhere. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers, i am using windows xp pro.

the one thing i have noticed is this... if i go into the control panel/system/hardware/device manager/mice or other pointing devices/synaptic touchpad in the general tab where you can normally select "enable" or "disable" this device, it is grayed out, with nothing in the box and i cannot select it at all.

all of the other devices in my pc allow me to select this option. i can plug in my usb mouse and it works just fine. but it's not very useful while traveling wich i do several times a week usually.

any help would be great. i have just spent about two hours on chat with hp/compaq doing all of the stuff they tell me to do, even though i did most of it before i called them.

the touchpad does not work in safe mode, it does not work in selective startup mode using msconfig.

i give up!!! HELP!!!

thanks, jimmy

Hi All,My touchpad no longer works. It is no longer in the device list via control panel. I used to run with the touchpad disabled if I had a mouse attached but this option has disappeared as I have no touchpad properties. Obviously fn+F7 has no effect. Any help most gratefully receieved.Barrie JUST NOTICEDPursuing another similar discussion I saw a reference to HID Driver I2C being a cause of the problem. This is list as a problem by Device Manager on my machine. The driver is the latest version but the following is listedThis device cannot start. (Code 10)A request for the HID descriptor failed. Can anyone interpret this for me?Barrie

My friends acer laptop has a freeze recently in a Pes6 game we turned it off and when we turned it on we watch everything as a normal windows xp startup when we came to the welcome screen we realized that touchpad and keyboard are not working. We think Fn+F? but the real problem is keyboard is not working at all. We can't access to bios with F2 at the very first startup. We tried to plug in a usb mouse but no electricity activity can be seen in it too. USB's not working either. But there are no errors and windows seems to start without any problem. Have a suggestion?

Answer:Acer 5101 keyboard usb and touchpad are dead

Hook-up and PS/2 keyboard and mouse to your laptop if you have that hookup or use USB Keyboard and mouse. You need to get into the BIOS and see if the keyboard and mouse is enabled.

Also by doing it this way you can also see under XP what happen. Try removing the battery from the laptop and try it again...

My mom has a Acer 5102. The touchpad and keyboard don't work on the laptop. I tried plugging in a mouse to the USB and that didn't work either. All I want to do is back up my files to an external hard drive but I can't do it without a keyboard or the touchpad. I tried doing FN + F7, and FN + F6, and even FN + F7 + ALT. I heard those key combinations work, but it didn't in my case. Also, she said at first the OS wouldn't boot for a couple days, but now it boots but the keyboard and touchpad doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem could be?wee

Answer:ACER Keyboard and touchpad doesn't work

Try http://www.laptoprepair101.com for a good desciption on how to disassemble a laptop.Be VERY careful when disassembling. They are fragile and the connections are short. The ribbon cable under the keyboard might be the problem although the USB connections are integrated on the motherboard and with your earlier problems might point to that as the cause.

Hi,
I'm having problems with my All-in-One Keyboard on Windows 8.1(64 bit): it doesn't accept input both from keyboard and touchpad at same time (can't walk in a FPS game while looking with mouse, for example).
Is this a product's limitation or should it work?

Thanks

Hi All!

I have a Tecra A8 (model: PTA83E) that has a ALPS touchpad. The touchpad stopped working even though it is visible and fully operational in the "Device Manager" and also at the "Control Panel". Apparently there is nothing wrong with it but the touchpad doesn't respond to clicks or touchs, it looks as if it was disabled but, has I said, in device manger the information is "This device is working properly".

I updated the OS to Windows 7 Enterprise and I would like to enable the touchpad otherwise I have to always use an usb mouse. I searched for the touchpad drivers but it seems that they don´t exist.

This is the information, that I cna seen in "Device Manager", about the driver:
- Controller version: 7.0.302.3
- Date: 26-09-2006

Thank you all.

Suddenly, touchpad on my laptop LENOVO E531 decided to not working properly... 1. Its not possible to perform double click, instead mouse pointer skips a distance on the screen...2. left "mouse" button is not working on touchpad, just the right button offering me options to do with the screen or webpage or whatever3. touchpad is not reacting instantly in some areas, if i dont move with touchpad for a couple of minutes e.g. in the middle right area (when i place fingers there and start moving up and down, it doesnt react instantly)4. i noticed just before i posted this message, that mouse pointer started to shake and selected text on screen as if the left button was clicked while i was moving with my logitech mouse.5. Also when i scroll down with my logitech mouse, it sometimes scrolls back up a bit, which is really annoying Hopefully u can help me sort this out, i've already had problem with this laptop in march but somehow i managed to make it work again. Currently im studying abroad 1400km from my home country, so i cant afford to send it to lenovo service under warranty. Thank you very much for your help in advance. Appreciate any advice.

Answer:TOUCHPAD STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY

I have the "jumping-cursor-problem" sometimes, too! I googled it sometime ago and read that it's a bug which only appears with touchpads by Synaptics. Don*t know how to fix it. However: did you try to deinstall your touchpad driver and install the latest driver?

My Y410p is about six months old. Today, while using the computer, the touchpad stopped working suddenly. Touchpad is enabled in mouse settings, and device manager says drivers are up to date and that the device is working. However, the touchpad is completely unresponsive, and restarting the computer didn't do anything. Is there anything else that could be done? Or should I believe that this is hardware failure? Thanks.

Answer:touchpad stopped working after windows 10

Following a thread from earlier Microsoft forums, this worked for me yesterday to restore trackpad function. Go to the Acer driver page for your computer. Download the intel IO chipset drivers for Windows 8.1. Run the setup for the driver in "compatability mode" and install. You will need to restart the computer. The computer will then recognize the trackpad as a valid device. Then download and install the Synaptics (or Elan) driver for Win 10 from the Acer support page and restart. If the trackpad is not immediatley active on the restart, hit Function F7. At least this fixed it for me.

Hi,

I got a new Lenovo Ideapad S510p laptop about a month ago. When I went to bed last night, I just flipped down the screen so it went into sleep mode instead. When I started the computer this morning, the touchpad only worked for 2 seconds. I tried pressing the button that would enable/disable the touchpad, but nothing happened. I plugged in an "external" mouse, and that worked fine. I tried uninstalling the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver and then download the one from the Lenove website, but that changed nothing. When I plug out my mouse, the mouse pointer dissapears from the screen. There's absolutely NO Synaptics process running on the computer, and if I go into "Device Manager", I can only see my external mouse. If I plug out the mouse, nothing is showing up.

With my external mouse plugged in:

When it's plugged out:

I really need help. I don't want to be dragging a mouse around all the time.

Thanks in advance,

Oh, and it's might worth mentioning that I run Windows 8.1.

Answer:S510p - Touchpad stopped working

I tried doing a Windows update, and that installed an update for the graphics card. When I rebooted, the screen was blue with white flickering stuff. I rebooted it again, and then it wanted me to do some sort of optimization - resulting in most of my applications being deleted. The display worked fine again, but the touchpad is still not working. I tried doing a factory reset, but I was told that the image wasn't found...

Hello all, just recently the touchpad on my Z60m (2529-FZU) stopped working. It is turned on under BIOS but under Windows (with drivers and utility installed) it tells me the software needs to be installed.I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but with the same results. If I have both the trackpoint and touchpad enabled under the BIOS, none of them work, if I turn off the touchpad and leave the trackpoint on, the trackpoint works fine, if I turn off the trackpoint and turn on the touchpad the touchpad still doesn't work.I have the latest BIOS update installed also. I even tried reinstalling Windows hoping it would help, but it didn't. Does it sound like I need to replace the touchpad/palmrest part or does it sound more serious? They're both well connected to the motherboard, not loose at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Moderator note: Type added to subject line for clarity. Hi everyone, couple of days ago my u400 touchpad stopped working, and I am having hard times trying to fix the problem. Interesting thing that, when OS is booted up touchpad is dead completely, cursor is not moving, buttons not responding, but when you log off your account cursor start moving, but buttons don't function. I have tried reinstalling drivers (downloaded from lenovo.com), no succes. After drivers were removed, cursor started moving, but buttons did not worked though. Even made factory restore for the laptop, surprisingly nothing changed, though I noticed when in recovery mode touchpad and buttons worked! I have loaded BIOS defaults, that also did not helped. Also checked mouse setting in Windows, device is enabled. I am out of ideas, onyone have any suggestions? I do not believe that this is a hardware issue, it works in safe mode though. Thanks in advance. Ideapad U400, Windows 7 home, x64 bit.

Touchpad stopped working once before after upgrade to Win 10. I upgraded BIOS and Synaptics driver, that fixed it. Now it suddenly stopped again. Touching the pad to move pointer doesn't work, nor do gestures, but the corner left and right clicks (for select and context menus) work. External USB mouse works OK. BIOS is still current. Upgraded Intel chipset. Uninstalled Synaptics and reinstalled driver. Win 10 is 1511 Build 10586.679. Out of ideas now. Help plzzzzz. THx.

Hello, fellow HP-ers! Hoping someone's expertise can assist me. I decided to clean out my fan by opening up my laptop keyboard. Unfortunately, I must've snagged a power strip or something because suddenly, the mouse stopped working. Does anyone know which power strip is for the mouse? Or if there's something to resecure in there? I've provided a photo for reference. Thanks in advance for the help! - Mr. Horrible DIY-er

I am running E5-411 Laptop on Windows 10 Home 64-bit with a BIOS version of Insyde Corp v1.08. I have been using Windows 10 for a while now and suddenly my touchpad stopped working. I have tried updating the driver in the Device Manager but still not working. The only entry that can be found under Mice and other pointing devices is HID-compliant mouse. I cant find which driver I am using. I check the mouse properties in the Settings and there is no ELAN tab or something like that. So I tried downloading the touchpad driver from the Acer Support page which is ELANTECH and restarted my computer hoping to fix the situation but it did not. When I disabled the HID-compliant mouse entry on the Device Manager, the keyboard stopped working as well so I had to restart my laptop in order for both to work again. Btw, the CD drive has stopped working as well and the keyboard. I fixed the keyboard not working after login by uninstalling the driver then restarting the computer. I would be thankful for any help you can give in this time of need. Edit: I have been using a USB mouse to navigate. Whenever I unplug the USB mouse, the cursor disappears and the Mice and other pointing devices in Device Manage disappears as well

Answer:LapTop TouchPad has stopped working ??

We can't give an accurate description without knowing the brand of touchpad (may be Synaptics) but they are usually listed in the mouse properties, which is accessed from the Control Panel.Look for "hardware" or "touchpad" on the tabs and settings such as "use this device" or "disable this device" should be listed there.Let us know what you find and we can probably talk you through it.

Ok So hunted through propably about 50 websites going through all the forums for a solution to this problem..
heres the pain...

Compaq pressario cq50 (not that this matters)

its a clients PC , Touch pad randomly stops working... Have updated the drivers... and still problem persists.

Originally when the touchpad stopped working i used the keyboard to navigate to Control pane/ mouse / hardware, and the ps2 touchpad had dissappeared.

Now since the update the touchpad still becomes unresponsive and still appears in Control panel/ mouse/ hardware, within the mouse control panel there is the option on the synaptics tab to reset the device, when i do this the touchpad becomes responsive again.

Looking through the forums most people seem to think this is a power issue and most people have found a solution of removing the battery and replacing it and this gets the touchpad working again.

however this is only a temporary fix.

im looking for a hardcore solution.

does anyone know if theres any alternative to the synaptics touchpad, or have any idea what could be causing it to become unresponsive.

Whilst typing this the mouse has now become responsive, and the keyboard from time to time shows a bit of lag, and everynow and then becomes unresponsive for a few seconds.

This is a clients laptop, and is putting me to the end of my tether.

i have explained to the client that i have exhausted my knowledge on this device and have not found a fix, so any solution is worth a try.

i... Read more
