Best Paid Anti-virus

Question: Best Paid Anti-virus

Hi, i am looking for the best paid antivirus. I don't really care about the cost as i am willing to pay as much as i need to to protect my computer. I have been on AV-comparatives website and apparently Avira Antivir Premium is the best. Now i want results so please tell me what you think. THX.

Preferred Solution: Best Paid Anti-virus

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am going to change from Norton to another anti -virus software.
Have gotten responses from forum members recommending AVG, avast.
Looked at avast and they offer a paid software package in addition to their free one.
The paid one has options similar to the norton internet security I already have.

Does anyone have an opinion on this? I am willing to pay for the software, I just don't want to get infected like I did with the Norton version. I'm thinking the paid version will help keep me out of trouble.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Advantages of paid anti-virus ?

kaspersky internet security 2013 and peace of mind......
its the best i had it paid and i didnt have any problems.
if you want to go free choose comodo firewall and avg
or comodo internet security its also free and it has many great feautures that others free dont.

And perhaps other security software.

I've been doing some research, and so far it seems TrustPort is the best anti-virus out there. I've tried the trial edition, and its really lightweight (even more then Eset) and according to AV comparatives it has the highest detection rate with a low number of false positives. Only problem is that the website doesn't specify how long the license is, but my pessimist side tells me that it's only for one year which makes this product somewhat pricey.

I'd also like to try a paid spyware removal but so far i haven't found anything i like. Spysweeper seems to be the most popular choice but it was too much of a system hog for me. Superantispyware seemed to work a lot better (despite the ridiculous name), but it tends to slow my computer a lot during boot up or shutdown.

As far as firewall is concerned, right now i'm using Kerio 2.1.5 for outbound, my router for inbound, and geswall for HIPS. This setup works perfectly (and its free too boot!), but you never know, perhaps there is a paid solution out there that works even better.

Any thoughts on all this?

Answer:I need recomendations for paid anti-virus

it's all a waste of money.

just use MBAM+hijackthis and microsoft security essentials.

(side note, i've never used AV, and ive never gotten a virus, but i'm just damned careful)

Answer:paid anti virus or free one?

There is absolutely no reason to pay for any AV program with the likes of Avast and AVG being available for free.Yes, you do need a separate firewall with both Avast and AVG.

I need to get a good anti-virus program for my new Windows 8 machine. I am currently using AVG free but I am willing to purchase something else if it's better.

Can anyone recommend a good anti-virus program for Windows 8?

Thanks!

Answer:Best (Paid) Anti-Virus Program?

What's wrong with the built-in Windows Defender (which is basically MSE)?

Paid anti-virus software tends to cause more problems than they help, as well as taking up gobs of resources. It's not really necessary to go overblown on security suite apps anyways.

i am planning to purchase an avast anti virus so please suggest me which is the best avast version? avast premier or avast anti virus or avast 7 etc......

Answer:which is the best avast anti virus paid version?

Hi quickslvr,

I have no experience with the paid version; however, I do have a great deal of experience with their free versions, and I can tell you that the free version provides adequate protection for most individuals. I have been using the free version since Avast 4 (or maybe even earlier) and I have never been infected. The beauty of Avast is you get the warnings "before" a website can infect your PC (it blocks the download and warns you to leave the website). Right now, I'm running on the newly released Avast 8.0.1482 and it is running without issue on both of my rigs. Now, if you are interested in their paid versions, I would strongly suggest you visit their forums and browse for problems because I really don't think they have worked all of the kinks out of them yet.

I did a google search and it seems there are now or soon will be at least 2 security suites for Windows 7:

1. Norton Internet Security Suite 2010

2. Kaspersky Security Suite 2010

According to the reviews, it seems that both do an OK job, but still in Beta until closer to Windows 7 shipping. Just wondering what others think may be best. I am looking for REAL good, not cheap or free.

There was a good write up on the Norton Security Suite 2009 in Maximum PC recently and they said they have made good progress and it now has a much smaller memory footprint and is a lot better than before. They think 2010 will be as good or better. Does anyone know if it has a "game" mode or such where it still protects but takes the least amount of memory? I think Kaspersky has this in the 2010 suite.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Answer:Best Anti Virus Suite for Windows 7 that is paid for?

Why do you need a suite?

If I had to pick, I would probably get Windows Live Onecare as it outperformed both Kaspersky and Norton in the last AV-Comparatives tests.

Hello,
I just don't know where to go with this question. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

This morning I tried to renew my Norton anti-virus 2006 online, to upgrade to 2008. I entered credit card info but when I clicked "submit" there was an error message that indicated the transaction didn't go through.

I had to leave for work so I let it go. But this evening my bank confirms the $39.99 charge did go through. Yet the Norton window on my desktop is all red and scary and says "at risk, you need to renew, etc." Yet it also says my computer is secure and it runs scans when I click on that. (???)

I am completely confused. I don't know whether I have renewed or not. I never got a confirmation email or a product number. I tried doing the live chat support but the chat windows wouldn't load. Then I registered and created an account to post a question in the Norton forums, but it won't let me post a question. The question button is not activated or something.

I really just want my money back so I can get a different product. Does anyone know how to get hold of an actual live human being at Norton?

If I downloaded the product from the internet already -- then that means they won't give me a refund, right?

Answer:Norton Anti-Virus Nightmare -- paid and can't get product

It doesn't matter. Contact Norton and explain your problem. Make sure you get the transaction number from your credit card. If they refuse to honor the purchase, dispute the charge.

Forum queries show how to just re register with the free version, but what happens if I let the paid version expire. Does it revert to free or does it stop.

I have no complaints with avast except the latest updates made it impossible (probably only hard for the tech savvy folks) to control which programs may and may not access the WWW. I really liked that ability. Also, these warnings that it is expiring are very annoying. They've irritated me.

What happens if I just let it expire? Will I have protection while I decide if I want to keep it or will I be out of luck.
I do want the ability to prevent some programs from accessing the internet.

Answer:Solved: What happens when paid avast anti virus expires?

I'd remove it completely with the Avast Uninstall Utility. Then install the free version of Avast.

Don't forget to enable your Windows Firewall.

There's a really decent assortment of free anti-virus software available on the Internet these days. Why are they free? It's a form of advertising, a way to "get in the door". Do something well, get positive reviews for it, then entice people to pay for additional features. Some free anti-virus is more obnoxious than others. Some will give you pop-up reports of the last scan results, tacking on offers to upgrade to a paid version. Others will just pop up offers at random, not in connection to any scanning activities.

OK, so if you're on a budget you've got free anti-virus installed. But if you don't need the added features offered in the paid versions, are you just as well protected for the installed functionality? The effectiveness of these programs relies on the breadth and frequency of comprehensive virus definitions, plus periodic updates to the engines for how they perform their scans. The software must know what to look for. If the free and paid versions get the same subscription updates, then they should be equally effective, right? Or... has anyone learned something to the contrary? If you can afford it, is it really best to buy your anti-virus software?

Answer:Does functionality of free anti-virus work just as well as paid versions?

The primary difference between the paid and the free is features. All have basic Anti Virus and automatic updates. The paid versions have other features such as firewalls, email protection, spam protection etc. If you scan with the free Malwarebytes and use a quality free anti virus, you have all the protection that you need. Bottom line, I do not think that any intelligent computer owner really needs the paid version if he or she uses common sense.
In some ways the paid versions are better, since they are not overloaded with features they may be faster

I upgraded from the free version of AVG in 2013 and again in 2014 as the free version no longer included a firewall. I am 3 months away from renewal for 2015,. I received a message from AVG about yet another upgrade, a better version for 2015, renew now. I thought I should ask the techies on Tom's guide first. Does anyone know if this will really be better? Also I am used to the graphics. The advert says it is "clearer" but I might not get on with that.I need all the help I can get as I still have Win XP, on an old HP Pavilion. I cannot upgrade to Win 8 on this old PC, for example. Therefore I think the anti-virus is important.I'd be grateful for any comments, please. I cannot afford new equipment (am retired). I do not use the PC for banking, music, games. Thanks. message edited by beetroot

Answer:Is it worth to upgrade AVG anti-virus package, paid version?

I have used the paid version of AVG for many years now, and i love it. They improved the GUI from the older versions from late 2013 and have made more and more improvements to it to date. From the many years i have used AVG what i can tell you is that my machine has become less and less infected over the years, it is not solely down to having AVG but it has helped considerably. To answer your question about will it actually be better, well i dont think it will be any worse than what you have right now, however being a beta version there may be bugs that will hinder your user experience, i personaly dont like beta version because they are still in the 'development' phase and will have many bugs. If i were you id wait until your current subsciption expires and then renew online, it only take a few minutes so you dont have to rush and renew now.

Is it worth it? I have the free version, but would love that real-time protection. Is it better than Windows Defender for Windows 7??

ty.

Answer:Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Paid Version

I recommend taking advantage of the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Protection Module which uses advanced heuristic scanning technology to monitor your system and provide real-time protection to prevent the installation of most new malware. This technology monitors every process and stops malicious processes before they can infect your computer. Enabling the Protection Module feature requires reqistration and purchase of a license key that includes free lifetime upgrades and support. After activation, Malwarebytes can be set to update itself and schedule scans automatically on a daily basis. The Protection Module is not intrusive as it utilizes few system resources and should not conflict with other scanners or anti-virus programs.

I have been a fan of Kaspersky for like 5 years now, have their products installed on 4 different devices currently and they have never failed me to date. But, even traditional AV' s cannot detect everything with their behavior-based technology, I was looking for 2 freeware programs to complement my KIS[Kaspersky internet security] on my windows 10 pc. After a lot of poking and snooping around the IOT's , I finally came upon a nice malware remover tool known as SuperAntiSpyware :- https://www.superantispyware.com/ and Zonealarm's free firewall solution :- https://www.zonealarm.com/software/free-firewall/ .I just wanted to know whether using these applications with my traditional AV would bog down my system resources considerably or not, as I currently have 8 gigs of ram, will it be a problem? . I hope I do not sound paranoid, but traditional AV's with their signature-based detection were long touted to be dead against 0 day exploits and what not, I guess practicing safe browsing and tightening your security with multiple applications and browser extensions such as ublock origin, disconnect, noscript, etc is the only way to go

Answer:Companion anti-malware+firewall to complement paid AV

Windows 10 can have issues with updates/upgrades when a third-party antivirus app is installed, so I stick with its built-in Windows Defender Antivirus app.

I also use Malwarebytes AdwCleaner and SUPERAntiSpyware (both free) every 7 - 14 days to scan for and remove any threats they may find.

I've never used Kaspersky, so I can't comment on it.

I am using zemana antilogger from about an year and i love it.
I specialy like the intelliguard feature that blocks unknown files from execution

I recently came through a good review of spyshelter how it protects when all the big antivirus companies fail

Should i try spyshelter premium?
Is it better then zemana ?

Answer:Zemana Anti-Logger Paid vs Spyshelter Premium

It depends. Zemana is kinda a set and forget application. While Spyshelter is likely to make a lot popups similar to a HIPS.

If you like the 'quietness' of Zemana, then stay with it. If you don't mind having a lot popups and want to have a lot more control, then go with Spyshelter.

You can also get a trial of Spyshelter Premium and decide for yourself if it's something you like.

Have a good day.

1. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Professional
Malwarebytes tops the list once again with the professional edition of their flagship product. Unlike the free edition, the professional edition offers all the great things included in the free edition plus more. It offers real-time protection against malware and malicious websites known to the Malwarebytes database as well as automatic updating and scanning. When a executable file accesses memory, it is scanned by Malwarebytes. If malware is detected, execution is suspended and the user is alerted. The web blocking feature scans both inbound and outbound connections for known malicious IP addresses. If one is detected, Malwarebytes automatically terminates the connection and alerts the user with a simple bubble in the task bar. Incremental updates keeps Malwarebytes up-to-date quicker, allowing it to detect more malicious software. These great features are complimented by its great price. This is one of the main reasons Malwarebytes tops the list. The user pays a one time fee and recieves updates for life. This is a great compliment to any antivirus, even if you are using a free one. The only down side is that Malwarebytes can be little heavy on system resources and is not designed to run by itself.

Hello everyone.

I have tried my best to remove this virus on my laptop, but no success yet.

Here are all of the things the virus does:

-Prevents access to websites like spybot, instead of letting me see the site, it simply says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage", and there is a button to click that says "Diagnose Connection Problem" (no connection problem of course)

-When I click links from a google search, they most of the time take me to the wrong webpage and I am forced to copy/paste the original link into the web bar.

-Programs like Combofix, Spybot, and HJT do not work and a box comes up after starting them saying "Combofix has stopped working".

-I tried running the programs in Safe Mode, but no luck there.

If anyone knows a fix please reply.

Thanks,

Sean

I have a nasty if not multiple nasty virus's and have not been successful removing them. It started with the XP Anti-Virus 2011 Removal fake anti-virus popping up with all real anti-virus programs disabled and anytime I try to go to an antivirus website I'm redirected to a random site. This happens in all browsers not just Internet Explorer. I also had many of my files changed to hidden file folders and also the start/all programs button does not show any of my programs. I mananged to get both Malwarebytes and Superantispyware on my computer and was able to get rid of much of the problems by running these programs. Now it seems the XP Anti-Virus 2011 has been removed but I still have the issue with my webpages being redirected depending on which page I try to access. I also have many processes that should not be running in the task manager and when i close them out they just start back up again. This worm seems to be accessing my iexplorer because there are multiple iexplorer.exe open at all times and sometimes the CPU Usage gets very high which is not normal for my computer. The final symptom is that at random times I get a webpage pop up or if not a webpage an error that reads like the following example:

An error has occured in the script on this page.

line: 13
Char: 1
Error: Object doesnt support this property or method
Code: 0
URL: http:/www2a.glam.com/mobile/detect.act?affiliatedld=288743725

Do you want to continue scripts on this page?

Camera Wizard not poping up after removing Total Security/Antivirus Pro_2010 I have a PC with Windows XP SP3 with Avast, SuperAnti-Spyware and MBAM while browsing I got a yellow virus warning (something win32 I believe) from Avast pop up near the bottom tray and within seconds the Total Security pop-ups started. My PC slowed to a stop so I rebooted and saw that Antivirus Pro_2010 had installed itself on my PC. All my Anti Virus programs would not start (ie MBAM) so I ended up following forums to end some processes, delete some .dll files that were known to be malicious and rename the .exe's to get Anti Virus programs to run. I installed and used AVG which found a couple things. Then I used ComboFix, and finally I got MBAM to run which found a good 40+ trojans etc. I believe I got the virus off but I tried to restore to before I got the virus but was unable to. I have since run scans with MBAM and SuperAnti-Spyware which have found nothing. Avast also finds nothing but it has a list of 44 files (mostly in WINDOWS\ folder with the last path part of file doubled) that it is unable to scan: because "The system cannot find the specified path". When I look on my C: drive and follow the file path, the second to last part is always missing (ie. WINDOWS\addins\addins) addins is not there. When I plug in my camera, the camera wizard does not pop up anymore as it use to before I had and removed the virus. I also saw on the unscanable list that there was a WINDOWS\Connecti... Read more

I don't know the Difference b/w Anti-Malware & Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware.

Is ESET a Anti-Malware.

How the Users are able to Know that this antivirus can be used as Companion with any av (like CIS + EAM)

Answer:What is Difference b/w Anti-Malware & Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware

long time ago, in ancient ages, where computer were barely able to reach 333Mghz , they were a distinction between Virus, malwares and spywares.

Virus is a specific term that includes items that modify your files then replicate itself and jump to another computer.

Spywares were mostly items that silently collect datas and transmit them to someone; they include cookies, trojans, adwares, monitoring tools, etc...

Malwares is a most generalist term that includes all forms of malicious items such as viruses, worms , trojans horses, rootkits, spywares, etc...

at that time security softwares were design to protect only some of these categories, for example , i had to use Avast (very basic at that time , with an interface that looks like a music player ^^) alongside Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware (both specialized against spywares)

now these terms are obsoletes since any antiviruses/malwares are similar by detecting and cleaning all of them.

Hey everyone, I am currently looking for an Internet security suite that best suits the following criteria in order of preference:

1- a very high detection rate
2- real time protection or whatever preventing malware from infecting my system is called.
3- user friendly
4- light on system resources.

I've been trying out NIS 2009 for a while and it's rather pretty nice with a decent detection rate. NIS 2009, KIS 2010 and ESET are the obvious choices from what I have gathered.

Please chip in. Thank you.

I am biased I suppose, having used Comodo products to safeguard my PC for years now without any major faults found but you won't get better than the latest version of Comodo CIS and it is free. Here are a couple of reviews of it and there has just been an update to the version reviewd which in my view is even better than said version. Attention please! There is a new adware "Anti-Virus-1". Its a fake anti-virus program which looks like Windows default "Security Center".
<a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=antivirus1.jpg'><img src='http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/3616/antivirus1.jpg' border='0'/></a><br/><a href="http://g.imageshack.us/img155/antivirus1.jpg/1/"><img src="http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/antivirus1.jpg/1/w570.png" border="0"></a>
Here is what the "Panda Labs" says: It is designed to simulate a scan of the computer, supposedly detecting thousands of strains of (non-existent) malware. The end aim is to sell users a pay version of the fake antivirus in order to eliminate the threats.
When run, this adware warns the user that the computer is not protected. The main screen displayed is a spoof of the Window Security Center.
It then pretends to scan the system for malware. If users do not immediately take the bait and buy the pay version of the fake antivirus, the malicious code will sporadically display a message reminding the user that the computer is infected.
In warning messages, and after the fake scan, a link is provided from which users can download the fake antivirus. Anyone clicking on the link will be redirected to a page like this.
Additionally, when infected users visit certain Web pages with compara... Read more

Answer:Ms deactivate virus are made for getting paid twice. No help

It's pointless trying to talk to Microsoft as XP is an old system as far as they are concerned. As long as you haven't formatted the harddrive your files are still there so your first task is to recover those. You need an external drive big enough to hold your data then get a Linux disk - (Ubuntu for example, which can be downloaded as an iso, created using Nero or any other burning tool, and then run it as a Live disk (ie do not install it) ). This will give you access to the file system on your computer and you can then copy your data onto the external harddrive.Once you have done this your best option is to just reinstall XP as long as you have the activation key from the side/base of your system."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Hi all,

I was hoping that someone could tell me the difference between Symantec Anti Virus & Norton Anti Virus. They seem to be made by the same company but seem to be two different applications. Is one better than the other? Is one of them easier on the system than another? Symantec anti virus looks to have less of a "footprint" on the system.

Is this the case?

I have also heard some say SAV is better than NAV (or vice versa). Is there somewhere to read up on the differences between the two?

Thanks,
Rich

Hi,

I just downloaded a "keygen" from bittorrent, and when I opened the exe file, nothing happened, then the exe file disappeared/deleted itself. I am pretty convinced that this was a virus, because my computer has slowed down significantly.

Now this part is unbelievable - I went online to download an antivirus program or the online Trend Micro scan, AND MY BROWSER (Firefox and IE) WON'T LET ME ACCESS ANY ANTI-VIRUS WEBPAGES!!! I managed to download Hijackthis and Spybot by downloading them through download.com, but it wouldn't let me go directly to the official sites! How strange is that?

Attached are links to the original file that I downloaded, if someone can scan it for me and deduce how to fix the problem, and also my Hijackthis log. (I hosted them on senduit.com for one week so you can access them.)

Thanks so, so much.

First of all i would like to apologize if this topic is in wrong category, or it should not even be asked on this site. And second of all, please be patience i'm a noob looking for answers So whats all about? Well i'm meeting new terms here and i have no idea what they mean and what they do. And as anyone else i wanna be safe in this era of cyber-crime. So basically i know whats a anti-virus and a anti-spyware and that they can run together. Also i heard that 2 anti-virus don't do good but 2 anti-spyware do. So what i'm asking is, what is a anti-malware? Can a anti-malware, anti-virus, and anti-spyware run together? Could you suggest some good+free of those 3? Sorry for my bad English and being such a noob

Answer:Anti-malware, Anti-virus, Anti-spyware

Florin, you might take interest in this thread, though it may be quite a bit of reading: What's the Best Anti-virus?

It is there that they discuss all kinds of different antiviruses and coupled security software. I personally only use Microsoft Security Essentials, but I have used it along with Malwarebytes for added security in the past.

Basically, you could have your system completely locked down with lots of extra security, but in some cases it becomes a hassle because of how much your computer becomes protected and overly secured. If you prefer a speedy computer over security, generally you use less security software, but if it is the other way around, you will want beefier security software which may slow things down slightly. That link I've provided will have most everything you will need.

Hello, I'm not sure when this all started, but recently I've been having troubles in a very generalized area which has led me to believe I have contracted some kind of virus/rootkit.

When I ran a scan with ESET Antivirus 4, I tried to update the virus definitions and found I couldn't. I then tried to access www.eset.com. Firefox gives me a notification that the connection was terminated. I tried getting malwarebytes anti-malware from the official website, but that has the connection terminated as well. windowsupdate.microsoft.com redirects to google.com, but otherwise I haven't noticed much abnormal behavior. I've ran scans with ESET, Malwarebytes, A-squared, Sophos, and the Super antivirus site was terminated but I intended to try a scan with that one. Here's my hijack this log:

Hi I purchased a program called "Pinnacle Game Profiler" from power up software.  It is designed to enable gamers to have full game controller support on games that offer no support for controllers.

However while scanning my PC for viruses I got an alert stating the main exe for this program containes a rather nasty trojan called trojan.gamethief.heur.gen  according to my research it is a trojan aimed for gamers with the purpose to steal account and password details from gaming sites eg: Steam, Origin, Battlenet and Uplay, enabling the designers of the trojan to hijack and basically steal games purchased by the infected user.  Is this a false-pisitive as my previous AV program (Avast) did not detect this but my new AV program (Baidu) has listed it as a critical threat.  I would like some direction from the community as this it the main exe of a program that I payed good money for the enhancement of my gaming experience.  I will not clean this file untill I get some feedback here on wether it IS a false-positive or if the company that created this software are out to steal their customers gaming accounts.

Please can someone respond ASAP as I am quite concerned as my steam account currently has 448 games and 167 DLC packs and I also have some games with Origin, Battlenet AND Uplay.

I didn't see this posted anywhere else (so if I have duplicated a posting I apologize) I am curious to see what everyone here thinks as to the best Virus/Spyware Scanner and Firewall (either FREE or PAID) ..

Answer:Best (FREE or PAID) Virus/Spyware Scanners and Firewalls

This question is actually asked quite often. One size does not fit all. What works best for me, may not be ideal for you and vice versa. Add to that a multi layered approach should be used for defenses, no one application will protect you completely. With what I have just said, we generally point people to our very own quietman7's excellent topic regarding choices with malware and protection products. This is just too bizarre to be true...a local computer repair shop extorts up to 20 million from some guy for 'protection'Gizmodo News StoryThis cannot be true, can it?

Answer:Millions in ransom money paid for computer virus protection

Looks like a lot more to it, and who you talk to: Roger Davidson: A Victim of Virus Scam - Or Not?In a few days there will be more and more. I'm sure everybody is choosing sides now.EDIT: looks like two sides already: Bedi gave a rebuttal to the criminal charges this week in an interview with The Journal News and presented a different version of eventsm, including that Davidson willingly gave the money. Among his claims are that Davidson was importing $400 million from a tax shelter in Europe and supposed evidence of the tax shelter activity was found on his computer. P.J. Foster, a senior account executive at Rasky, says that the statement on Davidson's behalf "serves as a response to those claims."Above quote from: http://chappaqua.patch.com/articles/statement-on-behalf-of-davidson-blasts-alleged-extortion-pair

After the payment was verified the decryption started. There was a message that said not to turn the computer off and not to disconnect the Internet, but our power went off and the computer restarted. Norton Antivirus caught the virus and the decryption did not resume. We selected restore the files option in the antivirus, but it was still giving the message Cryptolocker found and it was showing it even after we stopped protection. We called Norton Support and asked them if they could help us restore the Cryptolocker files. They told us to delete Norton. We deleted it, but decryption did not resume. There is a file on the desktop that says PRIVATE KEY. Is there a way we can decrypt the rest of the files? Thank you for any help of advice.

Anyone looking for a BRAND NEW challenge??

Hi, I'm Bethy. I'm new but I know just enough about this stuff to probably be dangerous... I literally took my brand new Alienware desktop out of the box four days ago. I have no idea how, but in the process of installing antivirus software I managed to find a first run virus- Virustotal first identified it on March 7th at 8pm.
Have been working with the Mbam team since Sat. to try to remove it but despite writing code scripts for me, we still haven't fixed it. The nasty files appear to be:
C:\WINDOWS\wine.exe
and
C:\Program Files(x86)\standing\minor.exe

Basically, it starts a proxy server that doesn't show up in the regedit and loops back despite all attempts to remove it. I've got 6 FRST logs from various attempts Mbam'ers have tried and innumerable scans with various programs but at this point we know it's a completely new creature and we know mbam, Avira, Hitman Pro, Kaspersky TDSS, MBAR, and Zemana do NOT remove it and only Zemana even detects the proxy server- however deleting and repairing does nothing - it just re-installs within 10 seconds. The net result of this is that I only have internet access for approximately 20-30 seconds at a time and that ALL of my USB ports, optical drive etc- anything to transfer files (EG like to download Respawn and factory reset-if that would even work) is not an option... for some reason, about every 10th attempt I CAN get it to recognize a thumb dr... This is my first post on this site, and I turn to you in desparation!

I'm not sure if I have two problems, or one problem manifesting itself in two different ways, which is why I have combined this post.

I have somehow gained a programme named "Antivirus 2008" which is constantly warning me that I have 688 viruses on my computer. When this initially started, I ran my free copy of AVG. This warned me of the presence of Trojan Horses, but it was unable to remove them. The full version of AVG would, I was assured, sort the problem. In a moment of madness, I then purchased the full AVG8 programme.

On running AVG8 it informed me of the presence of a huge number of trojan horses, and offered to heal them. I accepted that option, and was informed that the trojans had been healed (or maybe it was removed/sent to the vault - to be honest, I'm getting a bit punch drunk now, and I'm not really sure)

Following this, AVG "Resident Shield Alerts" keep popping up every 15-20 seconds warning me of more Trojan horses. When I click "Remove Threats" or "Heal", sometimes I get a warning reply "Some files could not be found." Sometimes I don't. Either way, it doesnt make any difference - the next warning pops up about 20 seconds later. This is true whether I tick the "power user" box, or not.

The exact details given by AVG are :

File Name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ppchcgq1j0elfv.exe
Threat Name: Troja... Read more

Answer:Infected with Anti-Virus 2011 and XP Anti-Virus

Hello Jrwilson, Welcome to Bleeping Computer.
My name is fireman4it and I will be helping you with your Malware problem.

Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:
Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools.
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing.
Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean".
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply, unless they do not fit into the post.
I will be analyzing your log. I will get back to you with instructions.1.I do not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:1) False Alarms: When the anti virus ... Read more

Hello,

I have a problem that is far beyond my limited skills. One of our people has a laptop that has either malware or a virus infecting it. Two symptoms are present: first, when using firefox web pages get redirected to advertising or to unrelated google searches; second, the machine seems more sluggish than usual.

I have tried to download anti-spyware software (e.g. Spy Sweeper, CounterSpy, MalwareBytes, Superantispyware, PC Doctor) and nothing works. In some cases such as Counterspy and PC Doctor, the executable will run but the program will not update (and thus, not allow for a scan). In other cases such as MalwareBytes, the executable simply will not run.

I have run a Trend Micro anti-virus scan. It seems to detect something but it crashes before the scan can complete. The same thing happens with Panda Activescan. Last night, I ran Panda Activescan for over 8 hours. When I woke up, the scan had frozen at the 52% point and had found 1 infected file, which it didn't appear to clean up.

Anyway, I'd really appreciate any help.
Best regards,
Jordan

Hello!

I've been doing a springclean for my PC, and I would be grateful if someone would check my hijack this log for problems.

I've run all of my anti-spyware and AVG programes first. But, I have a question: after my programes have scanned for problems and put all the bad stuff into quarentine, do I need to do anything else with them?

I'm not sure if I should be trying to find ways of removing trojans etc. or if it is ok to just leave them in the quarentine area indefinatly.

Thanks for your help!

Hello, I consider myself a fairly advanced computer user, but I'm having an issue I'm 99% sure is MalWare related. My laptop freezes CONSTANTLY, sometimes out of nowhere, and sometimes when I walk away for 5 minutes. I have tried numerous times to run AVG, Ad-Aware SE, and both freeze shortly after the scan starts (also tried in SAFE MODE). Now sometimes I can browse the we for hours, but as soon as a start a scan, install, or update, these issues are more common. I am fairly confident that this is not a hardware issue, since I've ran advanced diagnostics on them all, including BIOS. I have a HiJack This Log, and help would be greatly appreciated!

According to a story at Washingtonpost.com, the latest definitions for Microsoft's Anti-Spy flags Symantec's Norton Antivirus as a trojan and prompts users to delete essentials of the program. Users who follow the instructions hose their installation of Norton, requiring Windows registry edits and complete removal/reinstallation of Norton.

Microsoft's support forum is filling up with complaints, many from businesses that have been hard hit. This should be a cautionary note about deploying beta products in production environments.

I have just finished with my original support and probably have to reformat. However, I would like to find out what is going on or at least in some contribute to helping someone in the future so I have come here.Despite good computer hygiene, Adaware, Spybot, McAfee-now Kasperskey, CCleaner, HijackThis, updating (wondering if this might have brought in some problems), and Zone Alarm firewall, I have problems which I first noticed when I was hijacked from Paypal. This showed on my first HJT scan but disappeared without treatment shortly thereafter. My antivirus, etc., have been disabled although they LOOK as if they are working but don't so much as find a cookie anymore--except for CCleaner. Spybot doesn't find About:Blank but it showed up on the browser scan. I tried to delete it and it doesn't show on any scans but I still see it fly by the bottom of my screen as IE pages are loaded. When I go to my history or temporary files, when I can see them, they are mostly ad pages. I have tried all the usual CWShredder, etc., and they don't find anything.MWAV is the only scan that has shown much. When I submit some suspicious files from comboscan to either VirusScan or Jotti, more often than not they jam VirusScan and I get error messages from Jotti that it is either the wrong stream or the file is empty. Sometime the folders are empty. I have tried to rename them but many times I am not allowed. Sometimes when I explore I can see the folders have information but when I go... Read more

Coranti is powered by not one, but four world-class anti-malware scan engines!
I remember reading that G-Data too had 2 AV engines included: BitDefender & Avast
Coranti 2010 Multi-Core Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware had 4 anti-malware scanners: Bitdefender, F Prot, Norman & Lavasoft. Coranti 2010 is in beta stages and a 30 day trial version is available for download. Although its a shareware I chose to share about it here because of its unique nature of being a multi-core anti-malware!
I have not tried it but if anyone does, do share your experience here!
The installer is around 21 MB, but after installation it downloads updates and program components worth 250 MB.

Answer:Coranti 2010 Multi-Core Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware

Coranti seems to have a long list of serious compatibility issues with many popular anti virus products, (AVG all versions, Eset, BitDefender are just a few). It is strongly advised to visit the Coranti support page before installing.

Hi there!

I today wanted to install Firefox on my Mac and an Install programme opened itself and is now preventing any further action - the computer can't be restarted or shut down (notification: Installer can't be closed). The programme can't be ejected, closed, deleted neither. I ran a Kaspersky full scan and it initially detected the malware but no option could be selected to desinfect the Installer. I ran several further scans (AdwareMedic, Avast, CCleaner) without success in detection, also Kaspersky now doesn't find the malware anymore.

Anyone knowledgeable about which steps can be taken to get rid of this Installer? It would be of great help!

Thanks in advance!
Mariya

11/25/2014 After viewing facebook videos all computer any normal split second minimal activity takes minutes.
Even in safe mode any activity in windows explorer is crippled.
Opening any folder Task Manager can take several minutes.
Internet access is unavailable, so I am submitting everything from non-infected Windows 8 machine.
All system restore points are gone.

Ran the who's who of malware utilities.
MalwareBytes, MalwareBytesAntiRootKit, RogueKiller, rkill, AdwCleaner, HitmanPro_64, tdsskiller
Full system scan with McAfee.
All of above scans are clean.
FRST_64 also ran to provide log files.

Answer:Infection undetected by malware anti-virus anti-rootkit software

A little more background:
I did not observe any obvious malicious or unexpected process entries in Task Manager.
dllhost.exe *32 appears intermittently when starting/stopping programs.
This is never more than a single instance, shows very little CPU or memory usage,
but does have path of C:\Windows\SysWOW64\dllhost.exe

AdwCleaner did identify and delete C:\ProgramData\apn

There was also something called Au_.exe leftover related to "DropBox" application.
I uninstalled "DropBox" and manually deleted Au_.exe file

I recently downloaded PC Security Shield (supposedly a good anti virus program) and Spyware Terminator (antispyware) and noticed that their icons sometimes, do not show up in my system tray when I boot up. And it stays like that. I've had no icons for three days now...huh?

I've looked up this problem in the accompanying (Security Shield) help menu and it wasn't any help....but it basically states no icon = no protection....so what the bejeepers can I do to fix this problem?

Answer:Anti virus/anti spyware programs missing from system tray

Just a quick thought, go to start-up options and see if they are listed as due to run on start-up, if you have no suitable programme to view your start-up programmes go to run and type msconfig and check the start-up tab

Good morning everyone,
Frequent visitor, first time poster of this forum. I want to thank anyone in advance for committing any amount of time to my problem. I'm hoping someone has some experience with this issue. Allow me to explain:

Yesterday, I woke-up my computer and opened up my browser (I use Google Chrome). As soon as I clicked to open the browser, I noticed a Windows Explorer Pop-up. I have attached a picture of what this box looks like, but to describe it for those who are not able to open the attachment: The windows header said "Mod Info" and the Content said "BC LOADED" the only available options for me to click were "OK" or the "Close" button at the top right. Without clicking anything the box then disappeared and Google Chrome opened as usual. This behavior was unexpected, I've never seen this before. Worrying I had some kind of Spyware or Malware, I decided to try running my AV program. I use Avast Free.

I went to look for the process in the hidden icons list on my taskbar, where it usually resides. I didn't see it there, which was concerning. I tried running the program from the start menu, but after clicking it, nothing opened. This was also a red flag that something must be wrong. So I decided to try and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This program would also not open when prompted.

I decided to scan google for my symptoms to look for recommended fixes. Several tech support forums suggested to those who presented simil... Read more

My subscription for Macafee ran out and I never got around to downloading AVG or some other antivirus freeware on my netbook. I experienced some obvious signs of a virus/malware not long after (I would do a google search on Chrome and would get redirected to some very odd sites when I clicked on something safe-looking). So I attempted to download AVG and others with no luck. I then restored my system to an earlier date hoping this would be good enough to remove whatever virus/malware was affecting it. No such luck as I am still unable to download said freeware (although now I am able to surf the net with no issues). So, I happened across your lovely website and am crossing my fingers that you may be able to save the day!

Thanks so much for your time!

How to Remove Win 7 Anti-Spyware 2011 (Fake Anti-Virus Infections)

Quote:
If your PC is infected with the Win 7 Anti-Spyware 2011 malware or something similar, you?ve come to the right place, because we?re going to show you how to get rid of it, and free your PC from the awful clutches of this insidious malware (and many others)
Win 7 Anti-Spyware 2011 is just one of many fake antivirus applications like Antivirus Live, Advanced Virus Remover, Internet Security 2010, Security Tool, and others that hold your computer hostage until you pay their ransom money. They tell you that your PC is infected with fake viruses, and prevent you from doing anything to remove them.
This particular virus goes by a lot of names, including XP Antispyware, Win 7 Antispyware, Win 7 Internet Security 2011, Win 7 Guard, Win 7 Security, Vista Internet Security 2011, and many, many others. It?s all the same virus, but renames itself depending on your system and which strain you get infected with.

Hi,

I have had Avast Free anti-virus for a long time. At some point, after an automatic upgrade, all my messages in Outlook 2003 got an added anti-spam toolbar from Avast. I don't want it.

I did not find any way to make it go away from inside Outlook. It does not appear as an add-on in the relevant places. At some point, there was a register-based solution that was floating around on the Web. It worked with a previous version of Avast, but not with the current one.

I uninstalled Avast (with the proprietary uninstall tool, in safe mode) and reinstalled it twice. At some point, the anti-spam appeared as a separate module, so naturally I refused installation / deactivated it / uninstalled it (don't remember which). Yet it's impossible to make the toolbar go away.

If I de-activate or uninstall the mail shield module, the anti-spam toolbar goes away, but I don't want that. I want Avast to scan my mail, of course.

Now that I have nixed it somehow, the anti-spam component does not show anymore in the Settings / Components panel, not even in order to be re-activated. I don't know if this is a bug or a feature. It happens with other Avast components that I have refused, or uninstalled, and which do not appear anymore in the options panel as an option available for re-activation.

The anti-spam, illogically, is not part of the mail shield component, and no relevant settings appear in the mail shield settings.

A request in the Avast forum did not bring any helpful answers.

Thanks... Read more

Hey guys ... I've searched the forums and done just about everything that I can do so far to no avail and am at my wits end with this thing. So yesterday for no reason, FireFox just decides to close. Fine, no big deal, but then I relaunched and it did it AGAIN a few minutes later. Then I got the lovely Microsoft Security Essentials error message saying that I had a Trojan in Unknown Win32. Of course, I knew that was a fake, so I tried running my Spybot S&D, but it wouldn't load. Double-click, hourglass, nothing. Suddenly, I wasn't able to launch any anti-anything software, wasn't able to get to my regedit, task manager, nor launch a browser. Eventually, in safe mode, I located the Hotfix. exe, removed it, and the error message went away. However, I'm still unable to launch ANY anti-spyware/malware/virus software. In safe mode, I did actually download, register, and install StopZilla, which found 48 objects and removed them. I rebooted and ... yeah, same thing. Currently looking into getting a refund for that piece of fun.Spybot S&D loads in my systray and does the TeaTimer real time thing that it does, but I can't RUN it for scanning. Also, I have the installer for SuperAntiSpyware, but the nifty Double-Click, Hourglass, Done trick happens when I try to launch that for installation in safe mode OR out of it.In FireFox, I'll find a result for something that looks promising, click on it, and suddenly I'll be presented with another website ... Firstly thank you for your help - I really do appreciate it.

My HpCompaq laptop is infected with a virus that is blocking multiple anti-spyware software, Vista updates, and even my Kaspersky anti-virus.

Hi and new to the forum . I currently have Norton Security, MBAM Pro, CCLeaner Professional, adwcleaner, and I did have Hitman Pro, for a while several years ago when my computer was hacked.

I have had Norton for several years, but I am thinking of switching to Emsisoft and use my Windows 7 Firewall. I use MBAM for live monitoring along with the Norton Security..The adwcleare software I use periodically, or if there is an issue the other programs don't handle. For example when out bound traffic was blocked by MBAM, but it was continously happening, the adwcleaner software found and eliminated the culprit. It was very useful also when my computer was hacked.  I also have the active monitoring turned off on CCleaner.

Would also adding Binisoft or Tinnywall add more security to the Windows 7 Firewall, or would it be better to just use the Windows Firewall by itself? I don't really want anything too complicated on the Firewall settings, but just maybe make a few teaks, possibly.  One other thing, would it be good to add WinPatrol Pro?

Sorry for a lot of questions, and thanks for any responses as I value your opinions.

Answer:Is This a Good Anti-Malware and Anti-Virus Protection Program?

Although Norton (Symantec) is as good as any other well known anti-virus program, it it requires numerous services and running processes that consume a lot of system resources and often results in complaints of high CPU usage. Anti-virus software components insert themselves deep into the operating systems core where they install kernel mode drivers that load at boot-up and create files/folders/registry entries in various locations. Further, there have been numerous complaints about lack of sufficient support from the vendor.I have read from other users that Norton has made improvements in newer versions of their software so they are not as resource heavy as past versions...while others still say differently. Those issues plus the cost factor are the primary reason many folks look for a free alternative. IMO, Norton (Symantec) is better utilized in an Enterprise system environment protecting many client computers. With that said, there are a lot of folks who prefer using Norton (especially if it came preinstalled) and there is nothing wrong with staying with a product you are satisfied with.Switching to Emsisoft and using Windows 7 Firewall is a wise choice.5 Reasons Why the Windows Firewall is one of the Best FirewallsWindows Firewall: Your System’s Best DefenseEmsisoft Anti-Malware is an effective alternative to consider. As many of you know(quite a few don't) what EICAR is, this is a open poll to see what programs pick it up and what programs fail the basic tests.

I am conducting this poll because A-Squared failed to see this on a scan, but MSE picked it up before it could be downloaded.
So after you take the poll, Post what you used to test it with and results.
