Configuring a Windows Live Hotmail account in Outlook

Question: Configuring a Windows Live Hotmail account in Outlook

All Windows Live Hotmail accounts can be used with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 or with Office Outlook 2003, whether you use a free or paid Windows Live Hotmail account. To use your Windows Live Hotmail account together with Outlook, you must first install the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for Windows Live Hotmail.

Preferred Solution: Configuring a Windows Live Hotmail account in Outlook

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Someone has found the password for my Windows Live account, presumably using some script or something. I've changed my password and secret question, but that won't do much good because the person can simply run the script again. I know you're supposed to write to MSN to get your account immediately terminated, but after looking around hotmail for a while I can't find an address to write to for such a circumstance. Can anyone provide one?

Answer:Terminating my Windows Live Hotmail account

you could download a hack-tool but I strongly recommend that you dont use it
because it slows ur internet connection because it keeps connecting to the account
also because u might get viruses

I'm starting this thread to work on a WLM Hotmail POP account issue/question.
I feel continuing the conversation with Roderunner (George) and myself in the original thread is hijacking the OPs (Neelakantan) thread.
The original thread is Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F

George, hope you don't mind I started this thread, so we don't sidetrack Neelakantan's thread and issue.

This thread is my reply to your last post in the other thread:

Quote:
Hi David, I managed to set up my Hotmail in WLM using POP. When I sent a message to it using my AOL account, it never arrived in it, but it did in my Gmail account.

I re-added a Hotmail account in WLM 2012 using POP3, and below are screen prints of the account setup.
I tested this and received 2 Test emails for this account - screen print included.

Can you compare your account settings to mine and make sure everything is the same?
Do you get any error message when you can't receive message(s) in the WLM POP account?
If you login to the Hotmail account using a browser (WEB access), is the message there?

Answer:Windows Live Mail - Hotmail POP account

Hi David,

Since confirming I successfully added my Hotmail using POP to WLM and tested it, (it worked) it has been removed from WLM as it gets very very few messages.
My settings were slightly different from yours.
On the Servers tab, I ticked 'My server requires authentication'
On the Advanced tab, 'Server Timeouts' was set to 5 minutes & everything below 'Delivery' was unticked.
-
I have also made changes to my other accounts.
Cancelled forwarding Hotmail to Gmail main account.
Gmail main account used to check my AOL mail account, its been cancelled.
live.co.uk mail account forwarded to my Hotmail account.
My other Gmail is forwarded to my Gmail main account.
-
To get notified of new mail on opening FF, I added https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...tifier/?src=ss
it checks my main Gmail, AOL & Hotmail for me. If their is mail for me in Gmail, I open WLM to read them.
If there is mail for AOL or Hotmail, clicking the addon opens their respective web pages.

HiNot sure if anyone can help or have ideas, but I have done something rather stupid and silly. In my Hotmail account with Windows Live Mail, a folder and sub-folder has either disappeared, lost, deleted or whatever. When I use 'Sync' to check for any messages etc, the missing folder shows up in the 'checking mail panel', but not in my folder list. I have tried to add a new folder of the same name, but I then have an error message, saying the following: ""A folder with that name has recently been changed or deleted. Please synchronize your account and repeat this action.Configuration: Port: 0 Secure(SSL): 0 Code: 8de20005""Naturally, I have re-sychronised, but still unable to locate the folder. Also, I have tried to Google '8de20005' without avail. The question is - how do I retrieve my 'missing' folder?Regards

Answer:Windows Live Mail - Hotmail account.

try settings windows live mail up again as a new installation but with your normal sign in details - it might be then as it was.

Every time I try to log in into my my email I get this asking me to to retrieve a code from another email that I don't know

Answer:I can't access my windows live hotmail account

It's a "security feature" implemented in Hotmail, it does ask for an alternative authentication by requesting another email account or a cell phone to send you an activation code, then they let you into your account again.

Microsoft just want to collect private data about you help you protect your account in cse you lose your password. I've been asked myself and have to gave another email for they to collect

I have this account setup in Windows Live Mail (WLM) (version 2000). It is setup in WLM as a POP3 account. But, if I send a message via WLM and then sign in to the account via web browser, I see the sent message there. This is clearly IMAP behavior, not POP3 behavior. A normal POP3 account would result in a message sent via WLM being captured in the "Sent items" folder in WLM but not synchronized to the account on the mail server and then appear in the online "Sent" folder.

Am I thinking clear here or has my brain encountered some fog? Is this a unique Microsoft Windows Live Hotmail behavior?

Greatings,
I have a problem with one of my two hotmail accounts connected to Windows Live Mail since 01/08/2016. I can't recieve or send any mail. The last mail I recieved was 27/07. It is strange, because with the other account I can still recieve and send mails.
I can't find the or any reason why this particular account doesn't function anymore. The server hostname and port are the same in both accounts.

Hello,

Twice a day someone or something is using my email account (I use Live Mail 2011 to access my Hotmail account) to send emails to everyone in my contacts list. Up until recently these emails had a blank subject line and in the body of the email had only a link (different each time) leading to various sites (most of which were dead/invalid). As of yesterday, however, people are telling me that I've been emailing them regular looking emails inviting them to join me in some social networking site, or health club site, or genealogy site etc. My main Internet Security Software is McAfee (it came preloaded with the computer) and Spybot Search and Destroy. Since those programs didn't detect anything I also downloaded and installed MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, SpywareBlaster, Lavasoft Ad-Aware (which I recently uninstalled because of compatibility issues), and HijackThis. Some of these programs found several occurrences of malware, but the problem persists nonetheless.

I followed all the instructions on the tutorial here, but gmer is crashing my computer. The first time I ran it it scanned for about 5 minutes before the screen turned blue and gave me a long message I didn't have time to copy down except for this : "A Problem has been detected and Windows had to shut down to prevent loss of data." Under that it said : "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT"

I restarted the computer and tried gmer again, only this time the computer crashed before I eve started the sca... Read more

It seems to me that the only way I can access my Hotmail account with Windows 8.1 is by using Windows Live Mail 2012. I set up the Outlook.com account and that works fine, but the Hotmail account does not send or receive emails. I get 'logon messages' asking for my password all the time. I tried to set up the Hotmail account using the same WLM settings as on my desktop computer with Win 7, but the categories are not the same for Win 8.1 and the info cannot be entered. I have tried to follow the suggestions that I have seen in other threads, but they haven't helped.
Right now, I have the following settings for my Hotmail: My ID is my Hotmail address, along with my password that I use; the incoming server is POP3; the server field is pop3.live.com with SSL checked and port 995; the outgoing server is smtp.live.com with port 25, with the SSL box checked. My desktop computer WLM 2012 is set up as follows: the ID's etc are my Hotmail addresses and passwords, but there is a server URL....http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/sync.aspx[/url] instead of outgoing and incoming servers etc. There is no Advanced tab here as in Win 8.1.
I hope my explanation is not too confusing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Can't get my Hotmail account to work with Windows Live Mail 2012.

with pop it will depend ifyou are leaving the email on the server

if you log into your hotmail account are the emails there

Why not allow hotmail to automatically setup
it works OK on WLM 12 on 8.1 I have set up quite a few hotmail/outlook accounts

Also it works with the mail app as well

"Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified/ Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or ISP for additional assistance."

My outgoing SMTP settings are:
smtp.live.com
and i am using the port 587 over SSL. I tried TLS, SSL, Auto, None. But every time it fails. Although with a different error messages.

What's the deal with this Windows Live Hotmail conspiracy?

I say conspiracy because it seems it has simply taken over my MSN Hotmail accounts, causing me to leave behind my MSN Premium Browser after being "forced" to make the switch a few weeks ago, and now it seems that I'm not going to be able to retrieve my (formerly MSN Hotmail - now WLH) using my Outlook Express.

Last night while checking for my email, I got this....

which, according to a call to Verizon this morning, is telling me that now I must log in to the WLH accounts using IE or to retrieve my email.

I'm pretty upset about this....
the fact that first of all there were no options to switching to the Windows Live Hotmail (what's the big deal about this "service" anyway?) and now, it looks as though my Outlook Express is obsolete and no longer an effective email tool.

Anyone have any explaination or comments to help me understand what's going on?

Thanks.

Hi. I have a similar problem. I don't have a Microsoft account, I don't want one. My Windows 8 E-Mail address is for the E-Mail account on the family webserver, and yet when I get the confirmation E-Mail, it links me to a hotmail/outlook login page.

hotmail/outlook can't process my Windows 8 E-Mail account, how do I get past this aggravating obstacle?

Answer:hotmail/outlook can't process my Windows 8 E-Mail account

When Win 8 asks you to verify your account, it shows you your email address in one box with some of the characters replaced by *s and wants you to type in the email address in its entirety in another box. Once you do that, an email is sent to that address with a code for you to enter to verify.

There shouldn't be any confusion about which email address to enter unless you have 2 different but very similar email addresses.

When Microsoft started the new hotmail, I guess they made it so you have to have a special download in order for it to work with Outlook. Before this, I have used Hotmail in conjunction with Outlook with no problems. When I go to the download center to get the required download, you are required to validate your copy of Outlook. I KNOW that my copy is genuine. But it keeps coming back saying "no Microsoft Office products were found on this PC". Thus, I can't get the download. I need it to use Outlook. How to I get this download to work?

Is there a way to have Outlook 2010 sync it's To-Do bar with a Windows Live webmail calendar?

I'm using Outlook 2010+latest version of Outlook Connector +Windows Live webmail. Calendar sync works fine in both directions but the Outlook To-Do bar only displays upcoming events from the local "Outlook" calendar, not my @live.com calendar (even though in the Outlook calendar pane the local calendar is unchecked and the @live.com calendar is checked).

Answer:Outlook 2010: sync To-Do bar with Windows Live/Hotmail calendar?

You can definitely do that, here's how:

1. Click on the File tab.
2. On the Info screen (should be the default one that appears after clicking "File") click the "Account Settings" drop-down button.
3. Then click on "Account Settings" to go to the Account Settings screen.
4. Once at the Account Settings dialog box, click the "Data Files" tab.
5. Select your default e-mail account that you wish to sync your calendar with. (This would be your @LIVE account.)
6. All set! Enjoy your new To-Do bar with updated @Live calendar information.

This will also change a couple other beneficial settings, such as auto-recognizing contacts that are on your LIVE e-mail account.

From Microsoft Outlook:

"The default Outlook Data File contains the calendar that appears in the To-Do Bar and settings for Favorites, shared folders, and RSS feeds."

Hope that works!

Hi - my first day here and am not techno savvy, so please allow for my ignorance!

I have outlook (formerly hotmail) and never use Windows Live Mail, yet I see (quite baffliingly) that I have some emails of mine that are on there...some from past years. (?) I never did anything to initiate the transfer of any emails here and have never logged in to Windows Live Mail. I don't really want it on my system if it is superfluous to requirements.

Does it have a use if you already have another email address set up? If so, please explain.

If not, how do I delete it from my system. Thanks.

Answer:Windows Live Mail - superfluous to outlook/hotmail? Deleting it?

You can get email in one of two ways. You can either go to the website and get your mail. The other way is to have the mail downloaded to your computer with WLM. If you use WLM you can get off the internet and read your mail. If you sell your computer and you did not delete the mail, the computer buyer can see your mail. If you have several email addresses, you can read them all in WLM. Do you need WLM? Based upon the information the decision is yours. Personally, I use WLM and only go to the website for my mail when I am not using my own computer. Any questions please ask.
If you want to delete it, go to control panel and look for Windows Essentials or Windows Live Mail. If you see WLM it can be deleted. If you see Windows Essentials, there may be other software that you would, also delete. You can go to Windows Essentials, on the internet and see what other programs may be included.

I'm new here. My search yielded a many, many hits (some very old & some not so old), but raised additional issues of "Hotmail" vs "Windows Live Hotmail", etc.

Because of POP3 issues, Outlook Express no longer works on my WinXP computer. That's fine . . . I've adjusted to using Windows Live Hotmail. Whenever I click on a link (not Reply, Forward, etc) in an e-mail (or elsewhere?) to e-mail someone, it always opens Outlook Express. At the moment, I can't remember if this also happens on my Vista laptop, but I don't think so.

Is there a way to get these links to open Windows Live Hotmail?

Other forums provided the following, but haven't solved my problem.

I tried, unsuccessfully, to change the default e-mail program (using Firefox3.6 Help instructions for changing WinXP defaults). Nothing gave Windows Live Hotmail as a choice.

I also tried
• Start
• Properties
• Start Menu Tab
• Customize and make the email link point to Windows Live Mail (or similar wording).
• Changed to "Hotmail" (is that the same as Windows Live Hotmail?)
• Applied, etc
• Restarted computer (Start | Turn Off Computer | Restart)
• Went to Windows Live Hotmail (via Firefox)
• Opened an e-mail that contained a link ([email protected])
• Clicked on link
• Outlook Express STILL opens.

Can you get back old Hotmail account, after having renamed it to new Outlook account?
Well here is Microsoft's answer on Reddit!

If you renamed your account, and want to rename it back to the original name, you can do that.
IMPORTANT: This may not work if you are outside of the US and have a "@live.com" or "@Hotmail.com" address!
First, remove the alias that was created when you renamed your account (the alias will be for the original name).
Go to http://account.live.com, select "Notifications" then "manage your email preferences" and you'll find links to remove aliases.
Second, go back to the Rename page, Sign In and rename back to the original name.

Hope it helps someone!

I held out and downloaded Windows 10 on the last day it was going to be free. I?ve been having some email issues ever since. Some have been solved; one has been a toothache.

Although Microsoft wants to wean people off of Windows Live Mail in favor of the built in mail interface in Windows 10, I want to keep using WLM.

I need two email accounts set up on WLM. One I have set, a IMAP account (a Time Warner Roadrunner account) which is working properly and the other an outlook.com email account which isn?t. (All the settings on the two accounts are IDENTICAL with the exception of the server names)

The OUTLOOK account is also set a IMAP and the setting are correct as I can send and receive emails?both properly going through the proper server and being able to be read in my hand held device and on the outlook.com web site.

The problem is I can?t get folders to populate in WLM on that account, so I can?t see (read) incoming mail from there, nor do I have a SENT folder to verify that my emai ?went.?

The step which I can not get to happen in to ?DOWNLOAD FOLDERS?, i.e. the ?Inbox?, ?Drafts?, ?Sent Items?, ?Junk E-mail?, and ?Deleted Items? folders.

There is a link to click to download those folders (?Windows Live Mail needs to download the folders before you can read the messages in this account. To download the folders, click DOWNLOAD link?)but it churns and churns and churns then finally times out with an error message that reads:

I can access MSN.com, though.I have optimized my IE 6.0 and insured that *.live.com, *.passport.com, *.msn.com, and *.hotmail.com are in my Trusted sites.I saw at http://windowslivehelp.com/community/t/11532.aspx that other people were experiencing the same issue, but to acquire the answer I have to login to the MSN Windows Live Help site, which I cannot do.Does this sound like a malware, virus problem?I can receive Live/Hotmail email on my Blackberry phone, but not on my PC (Windows XP Pro, IE 6.0).This problem has been ongoing for about a week now.Thank you for any help.

Hello all,Been using Windows Live Mail for a while with no problems. It's set up to receive mine and my wife's email (both hotmail accounts), its been great as one click of the icon on the start menu loads it up with no log required etc.For some reason my account has stopped working, my wife's is still working fine. I have removed accounts, re-installed the live mail but the problem still exists. After her emails have come in it stalls on mine and the following message is given:Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail.co (my email address) account. I keep having a issue with MS Outlook & Windows Live mail. I keep getting asked to enter a security code and other personal info that I don't feel I need to give to MS. I initially used a code number sent to an alternate e-mail address I had to open in order to receive the code, to verify my current e-mail account. I told MS I didn't want to keep doing this anymore, and either stop blocking my account or delete it. They still persist with requesting my personal info, phone numbers, creating alternate e-mail accounts and passwords, etc. I'm totally confused?

MS uses this catchall phrase to pump personal info on personal e-mail accounts: "Call us overprotective, but we want to make sure your account is secure?" Or we suspect someone "may be" trying to access your account? Yea me! WTH is this really all about? I also have had the same e-mail account for several years and never had any security issues or problems? Personally, I think its just a ploy to collect personal info for some use other than to make my account secure.

Its not like I have a business account with big bucks here for a hacker to make some quick money? The giving of personal info should be up to the individual account holder, not a requirement by MS.

Any solutions here? Should I save my e-mail account info to a flash drive or something and find another e-mail service provider that is less intrusive? If so, any other e-mail provider recommendations?

Or other soluti... Read more

I feel your pain - Gmail is just about as bad.

Drop the "service" and pay a small amount for a different service. I switched to fastmail.fm - price is very low and service has been fantastic.

I dropped the MS account long ago and cleaned out my Gmail so there is nothing to see. Have to keep it in order to update my Android tablet otherwise I would trash it, too.

I have a Windows 10 phone (Verizon 735), a couple of Windows 10 laptops, and annual Office 365 subscription. Just a home user and have all my Contacts/Calendar in Outlook, but don't have an Outlook email account....just AOL accounts which I get via Imap/Pop.
In past, I setup m.hotmail.com to sync across laptops and phone but sketchy at best. Just got notifications to "Re-connect Outlook 2016 ". Deleted old Outlook account and added new account....tried no hotmail this time. Outlook came up great...only 1 calendar!!!!! However nothing syncing with phone. Assume still need hotmail?
All I want to do is have my Outlook contacts and calendar synced with all my devices. Assume this should be very basic as guess all this is on "My Cloud"? Also, should be the minimum if Windows phone has any chance. Appreciate any help.

Answer:outlook and hotmail account

The free Hotmail account will no longer work with Outlook. If I remember rightly a figure of about £12.00 is required to open yourself up to the biggest Spam-fest in the business.Don't get me wrong, I use Hotmail, but the levels of spam in it's system is huge and their filters only get about 2/3rd of it. You also have to check the spam folder anyway, just to see if anything has been incorrectly assigned.I reckon it's less hastle to leave the lot on line.

Hi Guys,

My wife cannot access her Outlook/Hotmail account, every time she logs in she gets the message "It looks like someone else might be using your account"
we have tried to verify the account and change the password using the on screen instructions however all we get is thrown back to the above message?
I have Googled this and it looks as if there is no easy fix, the one option appears to be we follow link and pay a technician £14.99 to cure the problem.
I am not fussed about the money but I am not sure if the technician is genuine?
Any help would be useful

Thank You

Answer:Cannot get into Outlook/Hotmail account

That option is a scam. Currently, Hotmail/Outlook are having problems, down for many users.

Get the machine checked for spyware/malware, there may be a redirect or similar in use.

I have an outlook account <removed by mod>
i'm not able to login here because of password is incorrect, so finally how to reset it. I'm using window 10 OS.
I need toll free Outlook/Hotmail support number.

Answer:How to get back into my Outlook/Hotmail account?

i have removed the email address as it will provide you with a lot of SPAM
There is no support number , for outlook/hotmail as far as I know, BUT that may have changed now with Windows 8 (when MS first started linking email accounts to PCs for login)
you can goto chat - and MS will assist via Chat service

If you have forgotten the password - goto another Pc that works
Login page for the account
Then click on forgotten password
you then have to either do
a) Enter the mobile number to get a text code to reset - these should have been set up when the account was first created
b) Enter the alternative email address to get a Code to reset - these should have been set up when the account was first created
c) Enter the answers to the security questions

If you cannot do any of these - then there is a form to try and rescover the account
You need to provide a lot of details, and on the three attempts I have tried this to help people, they have an email back saying not enough information and ended up changing to a new email address and never did recover - BUT Thats before this windows 8 and using MS password

so you maybe OK to use Chat line

What country are you in - you may have a support number - not sure it will be toll free
the UK is 0344 800 2400

I told the computer NO I do NOT want to "try" outlook go directly to hotmail when it started showing up upon log in. Well it ignored me and forced it on me anyway. At first it would let me just use that gear thing and tell it to switch back. It KEEPS doing it though? Is there a way to make it NOT automatically force the outlook on me? Something is wrong with it if I use the IE browser to get into my email. It lets me log in then sits there spinning its wheels indefinitely. I figured out to go use a different computer with firefox on it to log in so I could at least clean it out from all the junk but I am fed up now. Am I or am I not going to be aloud to KEEP hotmail. Will I eventually be forced to keep the outlook? I hate to have to do it but if that is the case I need to quick pull all my contacts etc and start using yahoo or something else that actually WORKS and lets me delete crap without opening it first!

Answer:outlook keeps taking over my hotmail account

As I understand it we can continue to use hotmail.com and live.com addresses indefinitely. I suspect that the Hotmail GUI will disappear completely one of these days and we'll be left with the Outlook GUI or one of Microsoft's email clients.

Hi.
I still have a Hotmail account I want to secure better. Right now all I have to do is enter my email address and then approve the login with the authenticator on my phone.
Well jeez.. talking about making it easy to break into my account! If someone knows the code of my phone, all they need to do is look at my iPhone info and they can see my email address. Then, simply enter the email address and approve it and BAM they're in!
At least Gmail asks for a password AND the authenticator code when logging onto an 'unknown' device. Or does it work the same way for Hotmail/Live/Outlook?
I prefer to always log in with my password initially. If I didn't have a password on my PC, they'd very easily be able to log into my Hotmail account, since 'stealing' a phone login code is very, very easy. People will just stand behind you, watch you tap your login and BAM it's game over. Sure, they'd still need to get a hold of my phone, but man, I just hate it that Hotmail switched it around.
You should always have to enter your password first, and an extra code from your phone as an extra.
I'm asking this specifically, because my Gmail has a Hotmail account as backup email address.
Thanks.

Windows in under attack by Strontium using spearphishing attacks that exploit unpatched vulnerabilities in Windows.

This makes it CRITICALLY IMPORTANT that you FIX THE SPAM FILTERS.
Hotmail used to be quite good at blocking spam...now every day I get OBVIOUS SPAM and likely PHISHING ATTACKS. Often I get repeat emails from sources that I have IDENTIFIED as spam.

Since I don't have this problem with gmail, I'm going to start telling sources to switch from my hotmail addresses to  my gmail address.
Since Google 1st identified the vulnerabiltities I mentioned in the 1st line, they clearly are better at this threat identification and protection game than Microsoft, but blocking OBVIOUS SPAM is something you should be able to do.

PLEASE FIX THE SPAM FILTERS.

Hi- I have just attempted to link Outlook 2007 and Live Hotmail and the installation has appeared to run without any hitches (as a matter of fact, due to my issues, i tried it several times and get the same results). I then attempted to send both a new message and an Outlook Calendar "acceptance" and both messgs remain in the outlook outbox. The send/receive button shows that there is a Hotmail error where the serve responds "forbidden" and to check the passwor. I am 100% sure that both the address and password are correct. I went into my hotmail account and thre doesn't appear to be any settings that "allow" this exchange so I am stumped. What's up?

I have perused many forums about this and can find nothing that is comprehensible or useful!

I have created a folder in my Outlook for my Hotmail account, and the Inbox contents have come over but not the folders. It seems a simple request but I can't find a solution.

1. I don't need Outlook Connecter - the account is already created.
2. Microsoft Help is useless, so please don't tell me to go there!
3. If you are going to speak to me of .pst files, please explain what they are, where they are and what to do with them!

I can't find anything in the Outlook menus - am I missing something? I also can't find anything in Hotmail.

PLEASE HELP!!

Hello,

I have a Microsoft account and I am using it with Windows 10.

I want to use the Windows 10 built in Mail App.

It seem very nice.

I added multiple Gmail and Yahoo accounts without any issue.

But, finally, when I want to add more Hotmail accounts Windows 10 told me to use "Windows Hello" or something like that.

I really don't want that Windows adds ANOTHER USER in my computer, I only want to use MULTIPLE Hotmail/Outlook mails and their contacts and calendar!!!

I am afraid that it will add them as USERS of the computer, I don't want it!!!

PS: I found an half solution, I don't add the Hotmail account as "Outlook" account but as GENERIC INTERNET account. And it works. But I cannot use CONTACT and CALENDARS of it.

Windows Live Hotmail provides an option to Add Services from various other Websites to be linked with the user's hotmail and provides updates about that sites on the home page of hotmail account of users. I am wondering if my Hotmail address causes differences on the Outlook.com interface in Windows 8 as opposed to a true ms or live email address. When I click on the METRO TILE MAIL and the interface is presented along with my mail I can find no where to change settings. Answer:Live Mail / Hotmail Accounts Broken in Outlook, again

Is Microsoft giving me the implicit message that I should switch to Gmail?

I'm supposed to know what I'm doing with mail but these past few days have just been a zoo of problems, the latest being that by merely re-instating one of my accounts in my local Live Mail Client program running under Win XP Pro, mail got vaporized.
gone.

Last time this happened [inexplicable Live Mail client interacting somehow with the server, ditched my inbox] I found the messages in the Deleted folder. Was able to salvage the important ones.
NOT this time.
The Deleted folder was mostly emptied [how?} and the inbox reduced from about 400 messages [not a big deal in terms of % of my allocated space] to 7. Where did the others go? I haven't a clue.
WHY?... ditto. I haven't a clue.

Because of the past trouble I had with phantom/random problems with the Live Mail client, I had switched back to OE6, and it worked flawlessly until last week, when like a lot of users, my accounts [I have three hotmail accounts] suddenly could no longer access the SMTP server - so nothing outgoing went out. So as a matter of survival, this morning I reinstalled one of these accounts in the Live Mail client application. I seemed to gag and slow way down, then after awhile looked OK, but when I checked my Inbox, it was mostly gone.

Any clues?

Hello,

By default, when adding hotmail accounts on Outlook using EAS, the account got added with FULL HOTMAIL NAME:
[email protected]

There was a process by which the left pane of Outlook showed any Name that user wanted.

Now with reconnecting Hotmail account in Outlook (going to Exchange), the same situation of FULL HOTMAIL NAME in the left panel has come up.

The older process (with EAS) does not work.

Any ideas?

Mine shows exactly as yours does but even before I did the reconnect it showed that way.

I am running Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Prof. I installed Outlook Connector 12.1 and added my hotmail and MSN accounts. Both showed up in my mail folders list and both connected to the web and downloaded just fine.

When I tried to Send/Receive just my hotmail account, it was not listed in the Send/Receive group, so I checked the Email Accounts list. The hotmail account is not listed in my Email Accounts list (tools, Email Accounts, View/change), yet it is showing in the Mail Folders. I can send mail from that account if I hit reply on a received message but not if I try to select that account on a new message. I uninstalled Connector, and removed MSN from the list but I cannot remove hotmail as it’s not on the list of accounts. When I try to close the folder (right click, close [email protected]) I get an error saying to use the Email Accounts list to remove it...but it’s not on the list.

Any idea how to remove an email account that shows up in the Mail Folders but is not listed as an account in the Email Account list? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Solved: Outlook Connector- remove Hotmail account

I_am_psYon,

Welcome to TSG!

Try this:

In Outlook's Account Settings window, go to the Data Files tab and select your Personal Folders and click Open Folder.

In the window that comes up you should see a file named emailid_hotmail.ost. Close Outlook and delete this file.

Reopen Outlook to see if Hotmail account is gone.

Example being my xbox live account is attached to my live email, if I moved to outlook would I lose my membership, purchased movies, xbox music subscription and xbox G points I have earned? Thanks for any input.

Noticed this when I had accidentally selected Keep me signed in on a PC not belonging to me when checking my Outlook.com emails using Windows 7, IE10 and Outlook.com web interface. Need help to find out how to avoid this kind of situation.

Scenario: Opening Outlook.com with IE10. Logging in with my [email protected], accidentally selecting Keep me signed in. All is well, check mails, reply to a few, sign out, closed IE10, shut down the computer.

Was leaving when someone I was waiting to go with asked me to wait 10 more minutes. With extra time in my hands decided to check my other Hotmail account, too. Booted the same PC, opened IE10, went again to Outlook.com and to my surprise it opened to my outlook.com account I had checked earlier, directly without asking for credentials.

I was absolutely sure I had not only closed the IE10 and shut down the PC, but first selected Sign Out from Outlook.com menus. In my opinion this, selecting to log out / sign out should invalidate earlier Keep me signed in selection?

Came home, decided to test this. Here's how it went:
Opening Outlook.com on IE10, entering my [email protected] credentials and selecting Keep me signed in (this time deliberately):

Web interface opens, everything OK:

Selecting Sign Out:

Sign out successful:

Logging in with another Hotmail account, this time with [email protected], not selecting Keep me signed in:

Signing out from this second account:

Sign out successful:

Closed IE10. Reopened IE10, th... Read more

I don't know if this might help as it's about Win8/IE10, but you can take a look.
Maybe IE10 is saving the registry cookies noted in the the last post (Dec. 20, 2012)?
If you have a PC with IE9, could you test that and see if you have the same issue?

Windows Live Mail & Windows Live Hotmail Plus

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I use at times both the WLM & W Live Hotmail Plus.

If I use the Hotmail I can not place a foto in the body of a message however I can send
one as a attchment.

If I use the WLM I can add a text sig, a foto sig, or both if I use the layout format and
stored pics.

What puzzles me is if wish to set-up a permanent sig I can create the text but when I
attempt to add a foto and select the source the system opens but when I select pics
the file is empty.

My sequence to try to set up a sig is as follows:

Select NEW message, then I go to the tools, options, and signature

Thanks for any info

I have a IMAP Hotmail account running on Outlook 2007 and suddenly it doesn't delete emails when I use the delete function on the toolbar and only sometimes deletes when I use the keyboard delete key, only then after going to another folder and coming back to my in box. I have tried running Account Setting again, even reloading my account. I used my Office 2007 disc to delete Outlook and reload it and still the problem persists. I have used Outlook 2007 and Hotmail for years without this problem. Has Windows 10 done something in an update that might cause this or what else could be my problem?

I recently loaded a pop3 Hotmail account to my Outlook 2010 since I was having problems with the MAPI Hotmail sending multiple copies of emails with large attachments. I am hoping the pop3 version will eliminate this problem; however, I can't seem to get the pop3 account to find my contacts and Contacts folder does not appear in the folder list. This is stressing my pea sized brain and I sure could use some help.

Thanks

What way do you prefer to read your email?
I previously used Windows Live Mail (Desktop) bundled with Messenger. But now that Hotmail works super smooth in Internet Explorer 9 & includes messenger, the desktop version seems redundant. Using the browser savings firing up two additional programmes.
Microsoft appears to be concentrating their energy on Internet Explorer & Hotmail.com.

Answer:Windows Live Mail (Desktop) vs. Windows Live Hotmail (browser)

I agree to a point, Microsoft does look to be focusing its energies on improving IE9 and Hotmail.com. Comparatively, I do find my Windows Live Hotmail (desktop) to be sluggish at times and quite a bit of a resource hog. But I nevertheless prefer to sue it because of the convenience. It remains in my system tray and notifies me when mail arrives. You need not have Messenger load when WLM does; you can always seperate the two.
Therefore prefer using WLM (desktop).

I seriously am confused because I have an outlook account while my boss has a live account and I sent an important email to her. I don't know if she will receive it and it's almost deadline so I am really uncomfortable not knowing this.

Answer:Can you send an ****@outlook.com email to a ****@live.com account?

Why do you think she would not receive your email to her, if you used her real email address. Email isn't a closed for profit system.

I'm trying to close an outlook.live.com email account that keeps crashing Thunderbird.

But the instructions I found on the web don't match what I see on the outlook.live.com web site.

I've tried to upload screenshots to photobucket, but I can't get the upload to work, so I've attached the screenshots to this message.

First, look at the attachment titled "Close Outlook Account Web Image" which is a screenshot from the instructions I found on the web. The instructions read: "click on the gear icon in the upper-right...choose ?More mail settings'"

Then look at the attachment titled "Close Outlook Account What I See." As you can see, "More mail settings" doesn't appear on that drop-down menu.

I'd be grateful if someone reading this could point me to a set of instructions that match what I'm seeing at the outlook.live.com web site.

Try using your ISP's SMTP mail server. It should be something like smtp.yourisp.com.

Following on from the thread about changing Windows Live ID (New mail address, new Windows Live ID???), and successfully integrating the new @live.no account into Office Outlook 2007, I'm discovering to my disappointment that the new account can't filter mail.

With my old pop/smtp account, I could set up rules to divert mail from specific groups or senders to a specific folder. For example, my pop account filters out and places email from the various Yahoo forums I subscribe to into specific folders created for the purpose. This is the function of the "create rule" facility in Outlook 2007.

Now the new Windows Live email setup is what they call an imap account. It has its own pst file and its own inbox and outbox in Office 2007 Outlook. These can't be merged with the old inbox or outbox because they're two different systems apparently.

What I can't understand is why I can't "create rules" for mail coming through my Live email account. Or rather, I can create the rules, but the imap system just doesn't follow them. No Yahoo forum mail is placed automatically into the relevant Yahoo forum folders in Outlook 2007.

Have I misunderstood something, because an email service/account which doesn't allow me to create rules or filter mail, is not really much use to me

Answer:How to filter mail with a Live account in Outlook 2007?

you might be able to set up rules if you go into the web version of the live email account
This way it will filter before it gets into your outlook 2007

For a couple of years I've had a Microsoft Outlook Live account but, to be honest, I never used it to it's fullest potential and now wish to cancel the automatic renewal on it.The renewal reminder I received from Microsoft states that, If I need to cancel the account go to ... and there is a link.It takes you to your online account details. When I click CANCEL ACCOUNT, nothing happens. So I wrote an email to the customer services. The reply came stating that they can't cancel it in this manner ... go here. Another link. This took me to a different page, so I emailed customer services here. The reply came stating that it wasn't the correct department, go here. Yet another link. This one was to a 'page not found'.I have now written to the main Microsoft Site asking how to cancel. The reply came ... more links back to original site.I found a new 'Cancel my account' button hidden in with my account details. It causes the cursor to spin but, guess what, no cancel page appears.Looking around Google, I find that there are several mentions about not being able to cancel using 'cancel' on Microsoft Outlook Live accounts. Is this Microsoft's way of getting an extra payment from you as, once you've paid (my renewal is due in Feb), there are no refunds allowed. Can anyone tell me how I cancel this account, please?

Answer:Impossible To Close Microsoft Outlook Live Account

I suppose that you could notify your bank to stop any payments to Microsoft or to the name of the account that you have. Then worry about canceling it on line.As I don't use Microsoft outlook I am unable to help with your problem.Best of luck.Just wondering if it is worth a phone call to Microsoft at Reading.I am sure someone will have the phone number handy for you.
