Open Office & Microsoft Office (2007)

Question: Open Office & Microsoft Office (2007)

:wave If I have, and LOVE Open Office :drool, but run in to the occasional file that I can't open with it, not the new .xdoc or anything, but for instance, a friend of mine sent me a .doc that I couldn't open with OOrg, can they coexist on a machine? Can I still use OOrg for everything, and MSO for things that get emailed to me?

I am guessing I can, and this new CD is licensed for 3 machines, so I might use it on mine, if it's not going to mess up OOrg..

Thanks guys!

Both windows XP Machines.. my signature refers to a machine I have at home. lol

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Open Office & Microsoft Office (2007)

Yes, you can run OOorg and MS Office on the same PC. You may run into occasional problems when the PC can't decide which program to use to open a certain document, but this is easily solved by right clicking on the document, and selecting Open With and then selecting the program you want to open it with.

Hello,

When I try to open a 2007 Word or Excel document I recieve as an attachment in Outlook 2003, I get the following message:
"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". Office 2007 compatibility pack was installed and it still did not work.

I then uninstalled Office 2003, uninstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack and then I ran CCleaner to clean up the registry. I updated my OS (currently has Windows XP SP3) with all updates, reinstalled Office 2003, installed Office 2003 SP 3 and then reinstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack.

I still get the same message when I try to open an Office 2007 attachment in Outlook 2003.

OS is Windows XP SP3 fully updated
Office 2003 SP 3 fully updated

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any hel on this issue.

alright. so i tried to open my microsoft word 2007. first, it was coming up as a memory problem, saying it didn't have the memory or disk space to run it.
i have system mechanic six so i ran memory mechanic which did nothing.
i then tried opening my other Microsoft Office programs, and they wouldn't open either.

i tried uninstalling all of it completely, in the registry and all.
then i reinstalled it, only not as the full pack, as the home & student pack.

now, the hourglass shows for one or two seconds, and NOTHING pops up. not the program, or error signs, or anything.

i don't know what's wrong with it. i ran updates for everything today (spybot, windows updates, system mechanic & AVG), and it won't system restore back to fixing the problem either.

help, please? i need to edit my resume & write half a musical, and i can't do it without word!

oh. i have windows XP, and i have framework 3.0 service pack 1.
or so my add/remove programs says.

i will be totally grateful to whoever helps me with this.

When I open a microsoft office word document a light blue screen comes up which is usually the screen behind the word doc that opens. In order for me to pull up the doc I am looking for I have to hit the menu on top left and click recent documents and then it opens the doc. Also, if I right click and choose word to open the doc an error message pops up saying "Windows cannot find C:documents and settings/administrator/desktop/charlie/d? make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again". I am using Office 2007 and this happens with every document I open that is a word document. It does not happen with Excel

Hi,
I can not open ms Word documents by double-clicking on them anymore, When ever I do so I get a mesage saying: "There was a problem sending the command to the program."
I do get the Word window open but there is nothing in it. I have tried this with .doc, .docx and .txt files and I get the same thing.
But I can open files if I first open word and then go to Open and select a document from there, but not by double clicking.
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and Microsoft Office Word 2007, can anyone help me?

Answer:Can not open documents in Microsoft Office Word 2007

Open Word, go to the Office Orb, then Resources, and then "Run Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

This will check out the install and do a repair if needed. You will need to the "Office cache" file on the hard drive or have the Office CD handy, if it is needed.

I used to have Microsoft Word or Office on my computer, but it at some point was deleted from the system. However, my resume is a Word document and I need to update it because I am moving. I downloaded the 60 day trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 and it seemed to install properly, but when I tried to open Word from the Start Menu, nothing opened. I tried opening my resume directly, and still nothing. I tried restarting the computer, uninstalling and reinstalling it, and still nothing.

As a result, my fiance went out and bought Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 for me, but we still have the exact same problem. It seems to install correctly, but when we try to run the programs from it, nothing happens. The Microsoft Office Diagnostics that installs with it will work, but when I run it it does not find any issues. My fiance tried running the configuration for it and received the error code "Error 1923. Service 'Office Source Engine (OSE) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services." We know that means that there is probably a previous version of office on the computer causing the problem, but we deleted the trial versions, as far as we know. I also ran CC Cleaner and the registry program on there to try to remove any last reminents, restarted the computer, tried again, and it STILL will not work.

Any help with this would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Just bought a new laptop with Windows7 64bit installed-my first exposure to Windows7. I had Office 2007 installed on my old Dell 32 bit machine. I had also recently pruchased Office 2010 and installed that on my new machine.

Now, when I try to open those 32bit 2007 files with 64bt 2011, Iget an error message that "no picture file is available", or words to that effect. When I try to "open with", the only option displayed is "Microsoft Office" with an icon that looks like a picture file. When I try to browse to the proper office program(Excel, for example), there are none of teh Office suite programs displayed, only "Microsoft Office".

I can navigate seperately to the proper progran, Excel, etc., and drag the file into the application, and it opens, and all seems to work OK. I "save as" the proper application file, but it still will not open with double-click on the file name.

I have not seen this particular item in the forums and would appreciate very much some help in fixing this issue.

Thanks,

Grubby

I installed office 2007 (full install after uninstall of office 2003) on vista yesterday and every time I open an office product, it gives me a message ?please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office professional 2007?. Then it pops a window with a status bar for ?Configuration Progress?.

I looked this up online and it said that this was caused by installing as a user, not an administrator. So I uninstalled office entirely, booted, and reinstalled as administrator.

Still doing the same thing. Anyone have any ideas?

On my Win7 PC I have open office and on my WinXP Laptop I have Office 2007. Both have one major problem: the spell-checker does not work regularly for English and does not work at all for other languages, e.g., French, Spanish, or German.

I did read other threads regarding this problem and I did go through the routine of Tools-option-writing aids; and marked "check spelling as you type." I also have my abc on the menu bar checked and the adjacent ABC is underlined with a red wavy line (which means the spell-checker is active).

The problem is that when I activate the Eng language in my task bar and type a wrong word, it will be marked with a wavy red line-- which means my spell checker works for English. Now while I still have English on my language bar, if I type a word in Spanish, the spell-checker doesn't work because the foreign word is not marked with red-wavy line. If I change the language in my task bar to Spanish and write a wrong Spanish word, again the spellchecker doesn't seem to work.

Anybody has any idea what seems to be the problem?

I greatly appreciate your help.

Hey All,

Here is my issue. The Company we consult for has not transitioned all of the way to Office 2007. We have a number of machines that still have Office 2003. Compatibility Pack works on almost all issues.

Current issue is one of our users received a PowerPoint 2003 that has embedded PowerPoint 2007 files. When the user opens the PowerPoint 2007 file Office 2003 shuts down. He has to download the 2007 file to his desktop.

From what I can see this is because the file conversion process shuts down Office 2003 before attempting to open the PowerPoint 2007 file.

Another issue that may be complicating the error is we had to run a Fixit patch from Microsoft that was causing Excel, Word and PowerPoint to be scanned which caused long opening times. I don't remember the KB article for that one at the moment but will find it if I need to.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I am currently using windows XP Service Pack 2. I had been using Office 97 and have moved to Office 2007.
I noticed that in the startup program Microsoft Find Fast.lnk is enabled. From what I can find, it is an Office 97 program.
Is it still needed with Office 2007. Is there any reason not to disable it.
Someone mentioned that it is a resource hog.
Unless I missed it, there is very little in the way of directions moving from Office 97 to Office 2007 and I sometimes have trouble finding old files.
Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Microsoft has announced the availability of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for the 2007 Microsoft Office system few days back. The update includes major performance enhancements for Office applications, most notably Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. Another big benefit is SP2’s boost to interoperability.
This tutorial will help you to slipstream Office sp2 updates into your Office 2007 DVD.
Follow the simple steps given below.
1. Download Office SP2 update pack
2. create two folders “office2007_setup“, “office2007_sp2” folder under C:\Office directory,
3. Put all your content of Office 2007 DVD and SP2 update file into “office2007_setup” and “office2007_sp2“.
4. Open command prompt and execute the command given below.
“C:\Office\Office2007_sp2>office2007sp2-kb953195-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:C:\Office\Office2007_setup\update”
5. Make the DVD of your integrated Office SP2 suit located into the “office2007_setup” folder and Install it.

Ok, well up until yesterday my father was using Office 2000 with Microsoft binder for work. He just got a new laptop for work and he's got Office 2007 installed. From the looks of Microsoft's site it states that 'Microsoft Unbind is not included with Office 2007.' Looks like what I really need is Microsoft Binder from Office 2000. Is there a place I can download it (legally) or purchase it? He literally has thousands of binder files (*.obd) that he needs to be able to access. I've tried searching with nothing turning up.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Answer:Microsoft Office Binder (*.obd files) with Office 2007?

So further searching turned up that Unbind for Office XP/2003 is just a waste of time for Office 2007 and no point in looking further into that.

So then I found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822622

Which seems to me if I can track down a Office 2000 disc I should be able to install JUST Binder 2000. Results show that it works along side Office XP/2003 so I don't see why it wouldn't with Office 2007. It would only be used to unbind old files, not create new ones.

If anyone has any other thoughts that would be great.
I'll look into what I wrote above tomorrow and post back with the results if need be.

When I sent a message and when I was using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, I had an option that enabled me to add a photo following or preceding my text. This option enabled me to put a photo in the text area and place text under or above the photo explaining the photo. I am now running Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 using Windows Home Premium 64 bit and I cannot find this option. If this is no longer an option, how can I place a photo in the text area and then follow with text explaining the photo? If this is not possible, I guess this new version is a downgrade!

2010 doesn't have different file extensions from 2007. docx, xlsx, pptx, accdb. You should be able to open those files in 2007 without issue. Also, it's not really the best idea to have two different versions of Office installed. They can conflict, especially when it comes to macros and equations.

Ok, so I got a Trojan virus and had to use Dell Datasafe to delete everthing on my computer and reinstall windows. Now, when I open any of the Microsoft Office programs it asks for a key, which i don't have. I never got an office CD with my computer, so where do i find my key? If it helps, here's my computer info:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium , 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P7450 @ 2.13GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10

How did you reinstall Office if you didn't have the CD for it?
The key should have been included with the documentation when you bought your PC. Unfortunately if it's not included in the documentation there is little likelyhood that you will be able to recover it now you have wiped everything. Have you contacted Dell for support?

Does the same happen if you try this in Safe Mode?

Have you changed your page file settings from default?

Do you have a system restore point or disk images (which we strongly and repeatedly recommend using) you can use to return to a point before this problem started?

Anyone migrated their business from Microsoft Office to Open Office?

Thinking about doing it as a way to cut back on costs. Currently we are using variety of office versions right now (2007, 2003, & 2000) It would cost a small fortune to get everyone on the same version.

Just looking for some feedback, share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks.

Answer:Anyone migrated their business from Microsoft Office to Open Office?

I don't run any company or enterprise, but it's been several years I'm happily using open office, it's 3 times smaller than MS and to me much easier to use. I think the functions and features and interface are pretty well organized. And for that all, it's freeware.

Who uses "Open Office"?

I see that you can type a document in Open Office and open it in Word -- Can you open Word .doc in Open Office?

Can you take a document from Open Office and create a .pdf file?

I did a search on this forum and found this - someone had a question about their MS license. That's what I'm working on for buying new licenses at work on new pcs.

Halo's comment:

But you can or could install OpenOffice.org For Windows 2.1.0 while its not MS Office, it has the majority if not all the functionality of MS Office and will save and open files from Office fine.... the best part is its FREE.Click to expand...

I have... haven't recently as the release I tried was buggy as heck. Newer releases are much better from what I've heard, but I can't confirm.

Yes, you can, IIRC. This is what attracted me to it in the first place!

Yes, if the application doesn't do it natively, PDF creation apps that we were discussing earlier (PDF Creator comes to mind) should allow you to create the PDFs... not sure about some that were mentioned, but this app installs a printer that you can use from any application to "print" into a PDF file.

Installed on my PC I have an old copy of Microsoft Office 2000. I use Word for my documents and made a spreadsheet on Excel for a game I play, other than that I have I have no knowledge of using the other features of this suite such as Access, Outlook or Powerpoint.

While downloading the latest Java update I noticed an ad for a freeware program called OpenOffice.org and after Googling it found that as far as I can see it is the same sort of thing as the Office 2000 suite only newer and probably more modern.

My question is, would the Open Office.org program be better than my outdated Office 2000 Suite and would I still be able to read my word documents etc using this program or would I have to keep Office 2000 as well.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice offered.

Answer:Open Office.org V Microsoft Office Question?.

Hello bluesjunior,Yes, you will be able to open your word documents with OpenOffice. I use OpenOffice myself. You may wish to read through the following thread. While the initial post doesn't mention OpenOffice, the rest of the thread is entirely about OpenOffice. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/58782/anyone-tried-the-ms-office-2006/ The thread also contains a link to the Open Office site.Orange Blossom

Hi All,

I have Office 2007 installed in my PC...plan to install another office software which one shall i go for Open Office.org or Office 2007.

Which is better between this 2?Can open office such as Ms Word file can open all existing Word document for MS word 2003,2007 and 2010?

Answer:Open Office VS Office 2007

In order to answer that question we would need to know what you define as "better". For instance, if your main consideration is price then OpenOffice is better since it is free to download. However, if you need the ability to create and run VBA macros, then Office 2007 is better since OpenOffice doesn't support VBA.

On my computer I have Student Home and Office from Microsoft, and a week ago I download Open Office to see what it was all about as I had been recommending it to other people who didn't want to fork over "the big bucks" for Microsoft Office.  The problem I am having is that if I open a .docx file or an .xl file from My Computer, the file will open in Open Office and not in Microsoft.  If I open the files directly from Word or Excel, no problem.  How do I keep Open Office from assuming I want to open a Word or Excel file in Open Office?  Thank you

Answer:Open Office & Microsoft Office

What you want is called:change file association in Windows 7Here is one of many links:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-defaultThe above should be all you need.

Each time system is booted up and Outlook 2007 is accessed for the first time, Microsoft Office 2007 begins to reconfigure itself. Neither canceling of the configuation process nor allowing the process to complete seems to have any apparent effect on subsequent operations.

When I now try to open Outlook I receive the following "Cannot open your default email folders. The file C:\User\Maurice\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst is not a personal folders file"

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing Office from the original disks a number of times, I have successfully installed this on another Win7 desktop computer partition and it works fine. I have attempted to follow the MS repair online notification for .pst but it doesn't seem to work (or maybe it is me that isn't working). Most frustrating. Is it at possiable to restore the original microsoft office programs? Thier pretty expensive otherwise!!

I am running Service Pack 3 with my dell windows xp pro. I have the orginal Microsoft word, excel etc. suite for 2002. Does Microsoft Office online offer a free download for the Microsoft Office suite for 2007 or will this version of word, excel etc., even work with my outdated windows xp pro?

Answer:Microsoft Office 2007

Hi

No free downloads of the full Office 2007 suite are available, there is a trial, but that is a 60 day thing HERE

Office 2007 will work with XP fine, requirements HERE

If you have Office 2002 (XP) and Office 2003 then if users send you docs in Office 2007 formats as in eg, Word is in Office 2002 a .doc and in Office 2007 the default is .docx then you need the Compatability pack to open the Office 2007 docs in Office 2002, 2003 and its free HERE

My 2002 version has corrupted wiping out all my Outlook contacts which I'm not happy about. I also lost the disk which doesn't help. Also, each time I tried to open Word, Windows Installer pops up asking me to install the disk.

A friend advised that he has Office 2007 which he can install and which has the "licence number" built in so it can be used by more then one person. I am a bit confused about that but he states that it has been installed in several computers. If OK, this will save me big bucks.

Should I uninstall 2002 first or will the installation of 2007 just override it?Bear in mind I don't have the 2002 disk eek:where is that damn thing?) so can't confirm any registration codes.

as your office 2002 has been corrupted, and u dont have installation disks too, it is better to uninstall office 2002 before installing 2007.

Since I do not use it, I just uncheck them any time I see updates. Can I totally uninstall Office 2007 from my computer without hurting anything. AND...if can, will I still get those updates every week or so?

If a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 came in your computer and you don't need or use it, you can uninstall it.

If you right-click those Office updates and then select to hide them or not to show them again, they shouldn't keep appearing.

Hello, I bought a new computer in March and it came with a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007. I did some work using it and am wondering if now I will lose it all? It says my time is up trying it out. I have my old Microsoft Office, which I think is 2003 version. How can I save my files I have done and saved on my computer if I uninstall the 2007? I do have a flash drive, will the files work with my old version if I want to work on them again? Sorry if this is a silly question. Karla aka grandmakarla

Answer:Microsoft Office 2007

Hi

and no not silly question at all, you'll need this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...70-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en it will give your office 2003 the compatability to open office 2007 docs in which you can then re-save them in Office 2003 format if you wish.

The new Office 2007 formats are very different to previous office formats, although you can if choosing Save As in Office 2007 save the docs in a format that can be opened by previous Office Editions, choose Save As > Word 97-2003 Document.

Or the compatability patch above works fine too.

Answer:Microsoft office 2007

Hi

I suggest that you remove Mcafee it?s not the best security software out there it slows the pc down and causes problems. I suggest that you either use Anti Vir, Avast for free antivirus or for paid ones go for Kaspersky / Nod32.

Also a good anti spyware programme as well like Super Anti Spyware Free Edition.

If the above does not work then please try a reinstall of Office.

I purchesed the Office 2007, part No. x13-51177-03,and followed the directions. Well, when the download completed, I was directed to call the 866-452-4755, and that man directed me to 800-936-5700...thats when Kaspersky bleeped, said that he detected a malicious web site, and then when the man "told me" he was on my computer, without my permission, #%$^@&*^%. and I was beyond %^&$#*(. So, now I have a bug, and seversl other problems, and I feel that should any other problems arise with ANY technical problems, Microsoft should pay for the repairs, yah thats what I said, NEVER HAPPEN right ? Well, you and they can be assured...I will do way beyond my very best to avoid calling them until the next ice age!!!

Both numbers are legitimate:http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX102871621033.aspxhttp://www.activewin.com/bugs/phone.shtmlThey scan your computer to make sure it is a legitimate copy and not pirated. That's just the way it isYou do it all the time when you connect to Windows UpdatesThey did not send you a bug

I have vista home premium 32bit and i have been recently getting error messages like the following: "the program has stopped working". Microsoft office 2007 was working for about couple of weeks when i installed it, but later on, it started not to work. I tried the repair function, reinstalling it, manually deleting the files and reinstalling it afterwards. I have also tried installing service pack 1 RTM to see if it will fix the problem. But so far, nothing works. Will the offical service pack fix this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is there something you may have installed since installing Office 2007 that could be causing 2007 to play up?
