Preferred Solution: pc will lock up during game & forced to restart

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys. Recently updated to Windows 10, and I watch a lot of tv through my laptop by HDMI to my HDTV. Before with Windows 7, I NEVER had an issue like this.

After somewhere around 15-20 minutes of the HDMI being plugged in and watching via my TV, the computer locks itself. It goes to a black screen and "disconnects" from the HDMI input. BUT the programs keep running, but I can't see or hear them since it doesn't go back to laptop input. To bring it back I have to click the mousepad and it brings me right to asking for my password. How do I stop the laptop from ever locking while I'm watching or streaming through HDMI? It doesn't do it when it's playing straight off the laptop...

Answer:When using HDMI, forced to lock screen

Have you checked the screen saver options under control panel , check it's not been toggled on when you switch to HDMI , there's a tickbox there too that tells the laptop to go to the login screen when the display is resumed which might explain the login coming up.

Answer:forced to restart

I'm going to move you tentatively to the security forums for someone to look at your log. I see that you are running bit torrent, which can be a huge source of bad downloads I'd recommend ditching that.

As a side note, restarts can be caused by overheating, bad ram, weak power supply, among other things.

I was trying to get into my BIOS, but I missed the entry, so I forced a restart.

Afterwards, when I got into the BIOS and left, I accidentally caught myself into startup repair, but I didn't have patience. I unplugged the laptop and took out the battery. When I restarted, at first the systray icons looked funny. I restarted, and everything went to normal except Action Center forgot some of my preferences and it forgot my systray hide icon preferences. Also, my time got screwed up (which gave me a Windows Update scare), because I think the time in the BIOS was screwed.

I fixed those systray preferences. So far everything looks normal. What is the best thing to do with my computer? Should I do a restore to the last restore point, or should I just see how things go?

Nothing seems wrong at the moment.

Hi everyone.

Yesterday I started having problems with my laptop. Every time I restart my computer, I get an error from windows saying that the services and controller app must be shut down (services.exe). After I click out of that window it prompts a reboot in 1 minute.

When I click on the technical info on the error it says 2 files will be included in the report:

Both are in my temp folder so they're
temp\werd3fe.dir00\services.exe mdmp
temp\werd3fe.dir00\appcompat.txt

It then takes forever, maybe 10 minutes or more to reboot my computer. If I wait this out, the services and controller app won't crash right away, it'll be a few hours. If I manually reboot it will happen almost instantly.

Does anybody know what this problem could be? I'm running stinger right now and will post the results of what comes up. I can't install hijackthis because everytime I do, I get an error saying its infected with the W32/Generic.Worm (hopefully stinger will be able to get rid of this as well). I would really not like to reformat, however I do have an external HD so if need be I can back things up.

I have heard this could be a sasser virus or a variant, or that it could be something related to windows firewall, which I am not running. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Services and Controller App - forced restart

Also, forgot to mention I'm using XP. Also when I boot in safe mode this does not happen.

Hi, Ive recently been having this problem and would like some help please.

My computer immediately restarts whenever i try to watch any streaming video online, and when i try to download/upload any video.

Other than this, the computer appears to be working fine. (eg. I can run computer games, download programs and files, but just cant watch videos). I have an AMD sempron 2800 processor, and a Radeon 9600 graphics card.

Ive tried McAfee virus scans and AVG virus scan. I've also run Spybot S&D. All three programmes found problems, but 'fixed' them. I have also tried playing a streaming video with the computer case cover off, just incase it was a over-heating problem. No luck!! A little help please?...

Answer:Forced restart during streaming/uploading

Often missing or corrupted codecs can cause your issues.I would check the files you are trying to view to confirm you have the correct ones.
You should also run "dxdiag.exe" at the Run box to test your system.

For the past several months, I've been having an on-going problem with my PC hardlocking or force restarting while playing taxing games. (Watchdogs, Farcry3, etc,) Keyboard, headset and mouse lights will shut off. This doesn't happen during any other task, including MMO's (FFXIV, WildStar.) I never receive a BSOD or any sort of dump file that WhoCrashed can retrieve.

I recently upgraded to a GTX 760 from a GTX 470. That card had overheating issues and I assumed that this was the problem. That alone resolved BSOD issues regarding heat. I've tried a couple memory test programs such as Memtest86. I've tested the cards individually and rigorously. No errors from that. I've tried running the game on a different hard drive as well. Problem still persists.

CPU idles at 35c and reaches up to 60c under load. All fans are working and PC is dust free. Video drivers, etc are all up to date as well. Capacitors on motherboard seem intact and are not bulging.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

I am having a somewhat weird issue with my internet access. After a forced reset due to a hard lock, I was no longer able to connect to my network or have internet access.

This is the second time I have had this issue (within a few months) where I am losing internet access due to a hard lock reset.

This occurs on a wired configuration, from the integrated on-board LAN (nvidia nForce6) directly into the ISP router.

The first time this issue occurred I had tried all the routine fixes to no avail. The Ethernet link from the router is functional as a directly connected laptop has normal network access. Eventually I resorted to installing a brand new wireless Ethernet card. Upon successful a successful installation and finding the broadcasted SSID (and several neighbors, as expected), there was still no internet access after connecting to the wireless network.

After giving up and resetting the PC on a wired configuration, the network appeared and internet access restored. At this point, switching to the wireless adapter yielded a successful internet connectivity. The wireless adapter was then removed and the configuration returned to a wired
link.

I am having the same issue again, and I was wondering id anybody may have an idea of what is happening, as I still have no idea how to fix this.

Below are the notes, observations and attempts to resolve the issue.

The operating system is Windows 7 Professonal 64-bit. The motherboard make is EVGA and uses nForce6 chip. It h... Read more

Over the course of running Windows 10 since its release I'm very confused as to why Microsoft is so vigilant to disable any known registry tweaks or user made utilities that let's you disable the lock screen. What's the point of a lock screen on a desktop PC anyway? It's so annoying to have to click through an extra redundant screen to get to my logon screen every time the system is rebooted, coming out of sleep, or locked, etc. All it is on a desktop is a wallpaper and clock - why not just put the wallpaper and clock on the logon screen? I'm really confused about the forced lock screen in Windows 10 and can't see any real function to it other than it's just a obstacle in the way of logging onto your PC. With the anniversary update I was previously using LogonController_Patchv2 but in a Windows update yesterday Microsoft rendered that utility worthless and doesn't work anymore. What's so amazing behind the lock screen that they're so vigilant to force you to use it when it appears to just be a clock, wallpaper, and extra click to get to your logon screen. I need someone of a higher intelligence to explain it to me because I can't figure it out.

Yesterday i was on Facebook for the first time and i came across a video and tried to play it. I was then told i didnt have the latest Flash Player 9 installed. I clicked on the link to install it and it installed no worries. All of a sudden, shortly after, all the windows/programs i had open started closing down by themselves (as if i had clicked on restart or shut down) and the computer restarted itself. I read later in the system "event viewer" that:

The Windows Installer initiated a system restart to complete or continue the configuration of 'Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX'..

Anyway, after the restart had been performed, i realised that my screen resolution had changed. I opened Display properties to change it back to the previous setting (1440x900) but that resolution wasnt available.

What i would like to know is has anyone else experienced this problem and is there any way of creating a custom screen resolution?

My graphics card is ATI Radeon 9250 128mb
My monitor is Acer AL1916W (widescreen)
My OS is Windows XP Home SP2

Hello everyone,

I have a 5 months old Asus ux32vd. Here's the problem: this morning I found the laptop extermely hot and unresponsive after resuming from sleep. Forced restart with power button resulted in a 15-min boot and normal work for the next hours. Until the lid was closed. After resuming from sleep on the next occasion, Win8 froze (became unresponsive with no error message) in a few minurtes. Restart with power button -> looooong boot -> normal work again. No mini-dump files created. Event viewer mentions Bluetooth-related issues (see attachement for the log file and screenshot of Device Manager). I am not using any Bluetooth devices, only wireless combo (the only usb port used on the regular basis). "Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)" in Device Manager was disable the whole time (it's enabled on the screenshot).

I tried standard Windows Startup tools - debugging and automatic repair - no result. I didn't do the hardware test yet. If the event file makes any sense to you, please, let me know. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. OS: Windows 8 64-bit, version 6.2.9200.

Answer:System Freezes Often, Forced To Restart PC Each Time

Update: I received and installed two replacement memory sticks a few hours ago.
In the obviously limited time that they've been installed, (with numerous active processes being used) the system-freeze issue has not come up, fortunately.

However, I don't know if the new ram will ultimately resolve the issue, only time will tell, and I'll post back if that's the case.

I was still hoping that someone could provide any feedback to a HJT scan of my system...

Earlier this week I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, and over the past three days I have encountered the same vexing problem. It does not matter whether I am starting up from hibernation or a complete shutdown.
When my HP laptop starts up, it initially shows a blank screen with a light blue HP logo near the middle of the screen and a rotating series of dots at the screen's bottom. Then the screen goes completely black for perhaps 10 seconds, followed by a brief reappearance of the HP logo screen. Then it returns to a black, blank screen that persists until I lean on the power button to force my laptop to power down. I then count to 15 slowly before depressing the power button again. Only after all of these actions are taken will Windows finally start up.
Even on the successful restart, Windows 10 is still starting up noticeably slower than the previous Windows 8.1, so the claim that it starts faster is ringing hollow with me.
What could be causing this unusual behavior? More importantly, short of reverting back to Windows 8.1 then reinstalling the upgrade at a future time, is there anything I can do to correct whatever is hanging it up?

Answer:Windows 10 requies forced restart to boot up

Just a wild guess, were you able to update the graphic card/chipset drivers during the install or immediately following install? And there may be other drivers needed by Windows 10. Again, just my first wild guess.

When display switches off due to low battery power & I can't get it back even when I plug in to the mains and have to force the PC to restart.
Is there a pref somewhere to disable this?

Answer:When display switches off I can't get it back without forced restart

Hello

When the display goes off exactly? How much capacity has battery at this time? 5%? More?
Try to set this to higher level.
When you work with your notebook and battery level comes to low battery level and the alarm alert will be shown in task bar but you will be able to continue your work several minutes or to connect AC power supply.

I am afraid your notebook reaches critical battery level and then is maybe too late for any action.
Set Low battery level to 10% and when the notification is shown connect AC adapter immediately.
I presume the display must not be off at all.

Hi, hopefully you can help me. I'm thinking I may have a virus of some sort, but it could just be mass corruption instead. I am on windows 7 home premium. Here's the situation.
About a month ago, my hard drive seemed to be crashing. I leave it on at night so I can listen to music as I sleep. Sometimes, when I would wake up, I would be greeted with a black screen telling me to insert the right boot device. Restarting my computer always fixed this though and it did not occur often. Most times, I could leave my computer on all day without any issues if I wanted. So I just assumed my HDD was having some sort of occasional fault, and was not long for this world. As such, I have been saving up for a new HDD.
Last week, I started noticing slow downs and decided it was time to clean up my old programs. I was uninstalling some old printer drivers when the uninstaller froze. I ran my computer through a Avast! anti-viris scan, which picked up nothing. So again, I thought it was just HDD issues.
Last night, I was playing ARK (a game on steam) with a friend and kept noticing lockups that would occur for a few seconds at a time at random. These lockups always seemed to resolve themselves, so I figured it could just be server lag from his end or my computer having a hard time with the game. But this morning it was worse. My browser was freezing up my whole computer for a bit longer and more often.
Deciding to see if it was my browser (which does have some script blocker apps on it) or my co... Read more

A couple days ago the HP Support Assistant popped up a message that a restart was required with options to do it now or do it later.  I said "later" so I could open the support assistant to see why.  Well, trying to start the assistant just caused the popup to pop up again.  So I restarted the PC and then started the assistant again.  There is nothing reported there that has been done or needs to be done.  The reason for the restart seems a complete mystery. Any suggestions about why this happened? Curiously,Larry Support Assistant v 8.4.14.41

It has happened a couple of times today as well with the message saying "system not responding or system was shut down to protect data".

I noted there have been some threads about overheating, bios and vista bugs. I am going to update all the device drivers tonight and the bios and see if that cures it. I am not sure if there is any way to check it is overheating or indeed if it is Vista bugs?

I will let you know how I get on but if anyone has any inspiring thoughts on the issues please let me know.

Regards

I hope it's just Vista bug and not hardware fault.

I've spent a good amount of time trying to solve this problem, but unfortunately to no avail. Here's to hoping you wonderful people can help me out!

The issue is that, when I play certain games, they just absolutely freak out and crash. What'll happen is that I'll be playing, and suddenly everything on the screen will stretch and distort, while the sound makes that really loud stuttering that I can only assume is a sound being repeated over and over again. The game crashes, and when I get back o the desktop, Steam is messed up. If I have a chatbox open, all the test flashes green and pink, and the main store page is all messed up, with everything out of place and flashing. I usually can't open other programs, as they crash when I try. The only way to fix it is restarting my computer, and it goes back to normal.

The odd thing about this is the lack of consistency of this error. It can happen immediately, or an hour into playing. The issue happens extremely rarely in Skyrim (Graphics maxed), but I got it frequently when playing Terraria full-screen in multiplayer. Just to be safe, however, I'll list the games that I can remember having this issue with, and how frequently it would cause it to crash.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2: even at lowest settings, I can't get through a single multiplayer map without it crashing.

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine: Varying lengths of time it takes to crash.

Just Cause 2: VERY inconsistent. Sometimes over a... Read more

Answer:Graphics freak out when playing certain games, forced to restart computer

Hi and welcome to TSG.

My first thoughts based on your description is it sounds like a possible failing GPU.

A few questions to start off with:

1) What is the exact make, model, wattage and approximate age of your power supply (PSU)? Your voltages look OK in Speccy but it could be a problem when its under load.

2) What software are you using to monitor temps etc (I assume Speccy as you posted a report, but just checking)?

Your not quite up to date on the GPU drivers, there were a new set released about 2 weeks ago (v353.62, your running v353.30 according to Speccy) , however I don't think that is the problem, worth trying though.

Do you have access to any known working GPU you can swap out to test with? It doesn't have to be a gaming card, just something you can use that will at least start the games up and run them, even at low settings?

Hello Everyone

Recently my HDD was replaced in my pc due to it was faulty (couldn't boot).
I got a new one and redownloaded my games, but now i have a decrease in FPS in most games and the newer ones (Rome 2, AC4 etc.) have large FPS drops and crashes to a black screen with flickering sound after a few minutes. This forces me to restart my pc manually. I initailly thought it was due to overheating, and i cleaned my computer, which cured some of the FPS drops, but the games still crash after a few minutes.
Does anybody know why this happens?
I have attached a zip folder containing the results from: DxDiag and MSINFO32.

Any help would be appritiatied, thanks!

My Dad was using one of my 64 bit PCs when a program froze up and he decided to force restart the computer (Pro move, I know). Now I restart and am unable to get to the login screen. Using both safe mode and normal mode gives me the same result. After I choose one of those options, I see the "Windows is starting" message and the icon. However, before I can get to the login screen the screen goes black and all I can see is the curser in the middle of the screen. I would like to be able to get to the login screen so I can access my computer. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated as a lot of my work material is on this machine.

My computer (an HP 6305 Pro) has given me two BSOD's reading "Your PC has encountered a problem and needs to restart", followed by a forced restart. It also froze up once, which I believe may be related to the same error. The DMP files after both of the two crashes declared to the problem to be error 0x00000124, specified hal.dll, and also always implicated Opera browser. For more information, you can read this thread that I've posted about it at TenForums: "Your PC encountered a problem and needs to restart." - Round 2. - TenForums I've run a battery of tests on my hardware (MemTest86, Prime95, Furmark, Western Digital Data Lifeguard, CHKDSK, Scannow, etc), all without incident or error. I find it hard to believe at this point that the problem is purely hardware-related. I have received suggestions that I update my BIOS (as an outdated BIOS apparently might be the source of the problem), but I'm afraid to do this, as I'm afraid that it runs the risk of messing up my system to the point of making my computer unbootable. That said, now that this error has struck again, I believe that it is in my best interests to gather more information about updating my BIOS, and perhaps go through with an update if the information that I receive indicates that it would be most prudent to do so, and I also receive satisfactory information on how to update my BIOS safely. As far as I can tell, this is the correct installer to use to update my BIOS (please correct me if... Hello 1. Don't believe BIOS is problem. 2. You can update BIOS but don't believe this action will solve problem. 3. There are two different 6305 Pro models. Here is the detail on BIOS update for one of them. It is a security update. So I don't think this update will fix problem. Also looked at other PC option using HP 6305 Pro and found BIOS update for security only. If Opera is indicated when BSOD occurs I suggest you remove browser from PC and use a different browser. See what happens. Don't think a BIOS update will fix your problem. It seems to be software related. 4. Some HP PC's have BIOS recovery option, your PC may not. Grzy

As the title states. Just recently my monitor has been going into power save mode while playing certain games. Not all games but some games. Which I am trying to figure out what the problem is before I take it to the shop. If i can somehow fix this issue myself that would be great. Since I really can not afford to buy a new system right now but will consider it if that is the case.

Before we get started I would like you to know the things that I have already done and still couldn't find a way to fix it. I do not think it's an over heating issue since I have ran programs to test my GPU temp and it seems fine. I tried the FurMark program and it shows that the temp is around 65 degrees. Which I was told that anything under 90 degrees is fine. I cleaned out the case so there is no dust in there anymore as well. I checked for any viruses and my pc is clean of any viruses. Lastly, I have also went into the power options menu and switch to high performance and changed the settings to Never on both sleep mode and turn off display but I still get that power save mode problem.

This problem just recently happened as well after I put in a new keyboard and mouse about a week ago. Not exactly sure if that caused anything though. I doubt it but could be. For the most part my system runs fine but just some games I play goes into power save mode and I am forced to restart my pc. Other times it automatically restarts my pc. I saw that it could be a dead battery on the motherboard that ne... Read more

Answer:Monitor goes into power save mode while playing games. Forced restart.

I had something similar happen while watching movies and it turned out to be a screen saver issue.

As part of my trouble shooting, I set the Power Options to never dim or turn off the display but the problem remained. Eventually I traced it to my screen saver which was enabled but set to "none" so the screen just went blank at the time-out I had in my SS.

Does it happen after a specific period of time or is it random? If it is the SS, the problem will occur at the time you've set in the SS. The clock starts after you last touch the keyboard.

It may be happening only during games because you're using a controller and not touching the keyboard. And it may happen only on some games and not others because of the way the game communicates with the computer; some games may disable the SS or periodically make a keyboard entry every minute or so.

Disable the screen-saver or set the time out at 60 minutes and see what happens.

A few days ago my pc started acting funny, at the time I was using Sunbelt Vipre Antivirus Premium, and it detected nothing during it's nightly deep scans I ran on schedule. It started with my pc randomly freezing and rebooting, then I started getting errors saying "Windows must now restart because the DCOM Server Process Launcher Service terminated unexpectedly". I ignored the first instance of that, as it did not happen again until a day or two later, then again in less time in between than the first two, then it would be a few times a day. I've since done a clean reformat of my C drive and fresh install of Windows 7 x64. It's been 2 days since the reformat, and I've been slow to re-install programs and games. I've only installed things I know are from trusted companies and developers, nothing fishy.

Yesterday, I was in the middle of a gaming session when my pc went black, started the shut down process and acted as if it was installing windows updates during the shutdown, only it was saying something about updating registry entries etc etc. Restarted just fine, logged in and hopped back into the gaming session. A few hours later, I got the same DCOM Server error as before, and have since had 3 other instances of it, one of which nothing was open or running on the pc aside from the standard background processes.

I will post logs from both HJT and DDS, appreciate the help when someone can get to it, know you guys (gals) are busy. Thanks!

Answer:DCOM Server Process Launcher terminated unexpectedly. Forced Restart, logs included.

First off sorry for the long double post here, just attempting to get as much information out from the get go to get a bigger jump on the fix (hopefully), as I'll be at work a lot the next few days and won't have much time to tinker with programs or even check this forum for replies or to answer questions.

I've got an update with a bit more information. I noticed that moments before I get the error, my HDD starts scanning like crazy (being loud, I assume like it's searching for files etc..), when I heard this the most recent time, I opened task manager and found that one of the svchost.exe processes was running at over 1 million k, moments later I got the error. Now that may not be significant, but in my past experiences I've not ever seen them go over 300k really. I attempted to capture a screen shot and save it as a .jpeg before it shut down, but was unable to. I did capture one immediately upon restarting my pc, and noticed one of the svchosts.exe usage shot up significantly and then slowed. I'll post a screen shot of the details of that particular one, and will continue to monitor that specific process from time to time. Again, not sure if it's related, or even if the process I have highlighted is the same one that was over 1 mil just before the error.

EDIT: From the time I snapped this screen shot, which was moments before posting this reply, to the time I had posted it, give or take 5-8 minutes. That same svchost.exe has gone form ... Read more

Every time I am forced to restart my PC using the "Restart" case button because of some lock up, I always run "chkdsk C: /F", followed by a restart to start the process, and then boot into Windows and run System File Check.

Is doing that after reach improper/forced restart a good idea or just OCD? I simply do not want SSD errors or file system errors that may have occurred due to forced restart.

Answer:Running "chkdsk C: /F" and System File Check after forced restart - good idea or OCD?

I'd say these days it's a little on the OCD side, but that's not always a bad thing. Then again I rarely have to do a force restart via the power button and if that's happening a lot it might be a bigger issue. If it isn't often then I say you're fine doing what you're doing. Windows is far more resilient than ever before and if you're on the real paranoid side I'd recommend weekly clones on a separate hard drive at the very least to ease the burden.

It's breathtaking how much relief you get once you are forced to use a backup and know it'll actually work. Takes away a lot of these little stresses.

Myself, along with a couple of other people on this forum have been experiencing the exact same problem. I also found some other people on other virus help forums who have the same problem as well. This new ?virus? seems to be spreading, and no one seems to know what to do about it. It just started during the beginning of April.

The main problem is that my computer just keeps randomly freezing. It can happen every 10 - 15 minutes or even up to an hour. The computer just freezes and you can?t do anything except for seeing your mouse move around. Ctrl alt delete does nothing at all either. It just locks up and you are forced to manually turn off the computer and restart it. It is extremely frustrating. It all started during the beginning of April where my computer restarted on its own, then it just started freezing up.

I ran several anti virus programs, spy ware removal programs, and an AVG scan and could find nothing of any relevance. I even had a technician come to my house and he couldn?t find anything. He thinks that it?s the memory or ram, but I highly doubt that, my laptop is only like 2 years old.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a new virus I believe and it is driving me insane, thank you!

I have ran a Malware Antimalware Bites scan, AVG, Ad Aware, Spybot, and SUPERAntiSpyware scans, all found nothing.

Question: 2nd Game Lock Ups

Hey, really not sure where to put this but this has been bugging me for a while now and I should really see if I can get some help to fix it. Quite awkward to explain the problem but ill give it a try;

If I start up my computer, I can then load up any game that I have with no worries and play for as long as I want, however when I then close the game, and try to open up another game (could be the same game again) then my computer will attempt to start it, and lockup on a black screen with the loading cursor not spinning requiring a system restart.

At first I thought it was to do with steam as it appeared to be only steam games which did it, but it does seem to do this with non-steam games too (However for some reason it does not with starcraft 2). So this has really been getting annoying having to restart if I want to change game.

Any help on this problem, or things that you could need me to post up?

Oh and I have done various memory, CPU and GPU hardware tests and nothing seems to be wrong, and this is with the latest drivers and a clean windows install so I really dont understand what could be causing it.

Thanks

Question: Game Lock Up

Ok i will try to explain all this in one go. i have microsoft flight sim 2004 just installed, The problem been is that after so long say 1, 2 mins it just locks up and i have to restart my computer from the restart button. In this game, it gives you a diagnostic tool wich allows you to boot the game in safe mode and play it, to see if there is a hardware fault, I did this and it didnt freeze or hang. But as soon i i start it the proper way its back to it hanging and freezing. So this is suggesting that i have a hardware fault. What does anyone think can be the problem, I run other games and dont have this problem, my card is a Geforce Fx 5900 and i have all the latest driver and direct x installed. My OS Is XP Home with service pack 2 and i have 512 ddr Amd 2500 processer.

Hi, I recently bought a ryzen 7 1700 and installed it on a new ASUS ROG Strix B350-f motherboard, I updated my Bios to the latest, I have the latest windows updates, drivers are up to date. But I get random system lockup, even at idle. The idle temps are 36-38 degrees Celsius. I have reset the system bios multiple times to default setting and it still happens. When I run a stress test on aida64 I get max temps of 62C, it seems to work fine, no errors but it just keeps randomly locking up the system. Screen looses signal, and the computer cannot be turned off even if you long press the power button, I have to pull the plug from the power supply. I have replaced the motherboard, as I thought it was the issue but still. Even on the stock cooler it was doing the same so I bought a liquid cooling system. Hello, after purchasing a new PC, I can no longer play a game. The game in question is Medal of Honor Allied Assault, a very old game now.

I am running:

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

The problem is that I cannot run the game for more than 30 minutes without it locking up and giving me a system memory error:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y221/pk89/error.jpg
As soon as I start the game I get frequent lock-ups, where the game basically ceases for around 0.2/0.5 seconds. These lock-ups increase in frequency and length until finally the game crashes, with a repeating audio of whatever was playing as it crashed - like a skipping record.
If you know about the "lagometer" in games, I have taken pictures of the lagometer, showing the green line disturbance that occurs at each lock-up. You can see that the first picture shows the minimal disturbance at the beginning of the session, and the last shows the frequent lock-ups close to crashing.

Try to reset your virtual memory setting.
The file should be a fixed size so that it does not get fragmented, with minimum and maximum set the same
The file should be 2.5 times the size of RAM (or some other multiple)
Go To Start,Control Panel,System,Advanced, under the settings tab select advanced, and on the bottom under Virtual memory settings you can change it to what it needs to be. You can also let your system try to run it but that is only if nothing else works.

So recently I got some new ram and a new BFG 8800GT... I noticed when playing games like NFS Most wanted and Call Of Jaurez that my computer will lock up and freeze and I'll have to restart, I'm not sure if this problem is caused by the new video card or the new ram [its kingston valueram, I have it overclocked just a bit, is any overclocking too much for valueram?]

I heard there was a bad batch of 8800GTs, so I thought it could be that? I picked this one up earlier this month.

More info:

My 8800GT is overclocked to 679/979.

Sometimes when it locks up in Most Wanted it will recover, but graphics and textures will be misplaced, lots of graphical glitches, but when I minimize the game and go back into it all the graphics are fine again.

I recently had some ram slot troubles, certain slots not working, but I took the motherboard out of the case and reset it in there and now all the slots will work.

Anyways, thanks in advance, I want to get some advice before I crack my computer open.

Hello,

I have recently bought a new system running Windows 8.1 64 bit.

After I played Cities in Motion 2 on Steam the problem first occurred. The screen freezes and one or two seconds late the system restarts. There is no BSOD.

Yesterday I played all day with no issues but today the problem happens regularly, even when just browsing the internet in one window.

I am unsure what may be causing this and would welcome any help you can offer. Please find attached the SF Debug tool zip file.

If you need any further details please let me know.

The system is still under warranty but I thought I would try here first before going back to they system builder.

Thanks in advance.

The first dumpfile mentioned Probably caused by : AuthenticAMD, the analyse gives a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)
A fatal hardware error has occurred.
The important thing to note in this is the following:

This could mean a lot of things, however it could mean the RAM in slot 4 of the board is faulty.

Another very important thing to note is in the DUMP itself, but not the WER structure output, is this:

MODULE_NAME: AuthenticAMD

IMAGE_NAME: AuthenticAMD

FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: X64_0x124_AuthenticAMD_PROCESSOR_BUS_PRV

BUCKET_ID: X64_0x124_AuthenticAMD_PROCESSOR_BUS_PRV

What this means is this was NOT caused by software, but an IRQ request or another hardware related issue did. Essentially there was a bus communication issue (CPU, RAM, video card, PSU , etc).

The second dumpfile is Probably caused by : atikmdag.sys ( atikmdag+c48bb )
This is the driver for your AMD videocard, could be software or hardware related.

What I recommend:

You mentioned that your PC/system is still under warranty, so return it asap back to your system builder.

Hope this is allowed here...Soldier of Forune Special Edition...haven't played it for a while, tried today and it says the violence lock has been activated so I can't play the full game with gore. I am the only adult in the house and have never "locked" the violence button. Tried uninstall via add/remove, searched for any files left, cleaned the registry with regseeker but on reinstallation it says "game was previously installed with violence lock, you need a password". I am very adult (44!) if not mature and have tried all my usual passwords, despite being sure I have never applied the violence lock. Any ideas??

Answer:technical help needed with violence lock on a game

Im not sure but have you tried the gold patch for it,you may even have the patch with the game but it may help, its about 100 odd meg if i remember right.

Question: Restart in game

It seems my laptop is overheating when I start up a game. It only lasts a few minutes, and then restarts. I have a cooling fan on the bottom and have it pretty well ventilated. I had this problem before, only the comp lasted longer. I fixed it by blowing out all the dust through the vents. I'm thinking mabye the dust buildup is pretty bad in there and I may have to open it up to completely blow it out. Any suggestions? Maybe a software problem? I have the box unchecked under system failure/automatically restart. Please help.

Answer:Restart in game

you should open and vacuum everything. I had a similar problem, but got it solve when i removed all the dust accumulated between the sink and the cooler
Be sure to adjust the sink correctly to the mother because if not temperature will get higher

On Restart, at the login screen, when entering the password, I get a sad face BSOD with
Kernel Auto Boost Lock Acquisition with Raised IRQL.
The crash occurs on entering the first 1 or 2 characters of the password, before enter.

The problem persists, (repeats) after the crash restart until I do a shut down, usually on the login screen, before I enter a password.

The problem does not show up with a Shut down, power on sequence, only when I do a restart.

I have a dual boot environment (configured with the MS bcdedit boot manager), for Win8.1 and Win10. Win8.1 remains stable, so this is unlikely a hardware problem.

The problem showed up immediately after the anniversary update (AU, version 1607) was installed. My Win10 was stable from July 2016 until 10/1/16 when AU installed.

I've looked at drivers. Very few have timestamps newer than July 2015, i.e. they should already have been in place for AU. Only one has a roll back option and it's timestamp is 8/11/13.

The problem is not completely repeatable.
<5% of the times after a restart, I can login successfully
<10% of the times after and crash and then shut down, it will still occur at the next login.
Doing 2 consecutive shut downs fixes the double crash > 95%.
I had to do 3 shutdowns once in the last 80 crashes to get stable again.
<5% of the time I get a second crash during the restart from the first crash
<.005% of active use I'll get a crash in the middle of a session. I think these occur... Read more

Hi all,Over the past few months I've been using an X200 Tablet with Windows 7.  Since I've had it I've noticed problems with it not 'sleeping' properly and the ability to Lock, Restart or Shutdown the computer going missing. I?ve done some troubleshooting and narrowed down a scenario where I can repeat the problem 100% of the time.  -       Setup computer with USB device (a keyboard and mouse will do)-       Boot and logon-       <test to see if locking works, and unlock ? it works>-       Sleep the computer-       Wake the computer-       <test to see if locking works, and unlock ? it works>-       Unplug any of the USB devices At this point the computer can?t be locked, and if you send it to sleep it will essentially crash meaning you have to do a hard shutdown (or as has happened a few times, wait for the battery to run out in your laptop bag...).  I?ve tried different USB ports on the computer and different mice.  I've updated the BIOS and all the drivers, I've even rebuilt it from the Windows DVD.  Is something anyone else has experianced?  If you have a X200 tablet does the same thing happen to you? T

Answer:Help - Repeatable X200T USB, Sleep and Lock/Restart/Shutdown crashes

Out of the blue, I happened to install this Microsoft hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976755), and today was the first day that, upon docking, I was able to lock my laptop, and I assume it will go to sleep at the end of the day when I take it home. In checking this forum, I see that this fix was suggested here some time ago:http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/X200-Tablet-Win7-Black-screen-freeze-on-... Hope this helps.

Anyone know how to make the sign-in background appear on restart / boot up with Lock Screen disabled?

I had a custom background for sign-in background. It works whenever i locked my screen (after login). However, when i restart or boot up, it will show a blank (solid blue) sign-in background. I had disabled Lock Screen with the "NoLockScreen" registry since i do not want the lock screen. However, i do want it to be displayed as sign-in background before login from a restart.

Nobody tried to achieve that?
Edit: Corrected the title to reflect the issue. What I tried to achieve is to have sign-in background displayed after a reboot.

Fan IssueI've cleaned my laptop sometime this month after about two years of use. Popped it open, blew everything, popped it back. I saw a post before posting this about removing the battery before cleaning so i'm considering going back and doing that. I usually keep it running in high performance because I use it for gaming. Core/CPU usage is almost never above 10%, currently sitting at 2%-4%. Memory is usually high because I only have a 500GB SSD, currently at 58%. The other stats (disk, network, and GPU), sit at 0 (although GPU will boost to about 60% when gaming). Currently, I have it in balanced mode and set the maximum core usage to 40% and it's still going strong. Any suggestions?  Gaming IssueAlso on a side note, if anyone can assist me with a gaming issue I'm having. My computer has a 960 GTX, i74720GQ @ 2.6GHz, and 500 GB SSD (samsung evo--upgraded from 1TB HD) and I'm having issues with my FPS in-game. It locks at 30 or FPS across all games. I do have two GPU's (integrated and 960 GTX) and have always used the GTX as the primary source, uncapped in-game graphics, limited background interference (services, programs, etc.) and possibly other things I can't think of but cannot release the in-game FPS cap. Even when settings are at the lowest settings. In previous times, if I were to uncap, it'd reach above 60 easily consistently but now when it's uncapped, it never goes above 60. One might ask what changed? After upgrading from HDD to SSD, I had to reset my ... Read more

Answer:Flickering monitor, Freezing Computer, and Lock ups in game

First off you should probably place another fan in the case, or another one on the graphics card. Your other temperatures appear to be normal. I was having issues like this awhile back. Try updating your graphics card driver, but use forceware. Here is the link for your card- http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html . Hope this helps!

Hello.
This is my first time. I have searched the postings to find a similar problem/solution to no avail so here goes.
I recently upgraded my RAM from 32Mb EDO to 128Mb SDRAM, which was done successfully and picked up on the reboot.
Since then my son has been unable to play Need For Speed 111 Hot Pursuit. Similar cd rom games still work and there are no other system problems. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game several times. It always gets to the menu from either auto run or the desk top shortcut. The other menu items are ok but when you hit the play button it immediately goes to a blank screen and locks the pc up without error messages. CTRL ALT DELETE doesn't work and I have to reboot. I have tried the game's tech help and at their suggestion upgraded DirectX from version 5 to 8a and checked some settings with no result obviously. I have also exchanged the 128Mb module with the retailer for another one in case there was a fault. I can't think of anything else. Any ideas would be appreciated.
System details.

5Gb HDD (1.8Gb used)

download core temp, and check the temps while playing, 55c @ idle seems to be about 20c too high, download cpu-z to check your video card temps too.you may need extra cooling and/or repaste and reset your cpu block.make sure you have adequate ventilation, also check your bios it may be set to switch of in the bios if your cpu gets too hot, but if its a new machine, just take it back its still under warranty.i hate computers!but cant help myself....

My system is:

Hi there!

I have a tech question for you to solve! Basically when playing GTA 4 my PC always reboots after 15-20minutes of gameplay. I think this is either not enough power or overheating.

PC specs:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 4.02Ghz (Followed your over clocking guide thanks )
8.00GB DDR3 RAM
ASUS IV Formula
GTX 470
Artic Cooling 700W psu

Now my case is a Xigmatek asgard http://images.tekheads.co.uk/product...back_3-TEK.jpg

Cooling Wise:
Corsair H70 > Pushing out hot air (CPU Temps Fine)
2 Front fans > Sucking in
2 Side fans > Sucking in

Is this over heating or lack of power?
Can you help me??

Hi, i'm having a problems while gaming. the windows will automatically restart by itself while i'm playing game (ragnarok online) Everything it run well while i'm starting the game. but after 5 - 10 mins, it will auto restart by itself without any warning. My PC only will auto restart while i'm playing game(Ragnarok Online) I'm sure that my pc meet the system requirements for playing the game. Last time i play the game, it run well with no problems at all, but after i reformat my pc and install back, the problems occur. I had been search for the forum about this problems. from the other thread, this problems might because of some problems.

1. PC Heat problems.
I don't think i'm having this problems since i open up my pc casing and installed extra fans on it, the processer heat was around 40 - 42 C.

2. Power Supply.
I had installed a new power supply for my pc, but this still not solve the problems yet. So, the problems not because of the power supply.

3. Driver.
I had installed the lastest driver from nVidia.com for my graphic card, but the problems still occur, and i had disable the sound while playing the game.

4. Windows setting.
I know that windows xp having an option to auto restart pc while problems occur. But i'm using windows 98 right now. And i don't think windows 98 having the same setting as windows xp to auto restart while errors occur.

5. Virus/Bug.
I had scanned my pc with norton anti-virus (lastest virus update)... Read more

So about a few months back, i get this computer that im currently using and play this game called Lunia for about 1 month [ive been playing it for a while on my old computer and ive had no problems with Lunia] and one night my computer just randomly restarts. Before it was restarting maybe every few hours...and now its restarting right when i load the game.

When i take off the auto restart upon failure button in system properties, it doesnt make it stop at the bsod as it did before...it just skips it and STILL auto restarts.

At first it went to the bsod when i first took it off the auto restart button but not it just totally skips it.

It gives errors on about 3 other games, works semi-ok for World of Warcraft [causes errors here and there], and for Lunia, it just restarts my comp.

And ever since this started happening, my computer turns on but doesnt appear on the monitor. It happens when i turn my computer on after a few hours of it being off, like after i wake up.

And yes i am a computer noob so please state on how i can find and write my computer specs.

Answer:Play game equals restart

You do not mention what cooler you have on the CPU.
One of the best is here from Zalman: http://www.zalmanusa.com/usa/product/view.asp?idx=145&code=005009

but have a look at others as well
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_CPU_Coolers_1.html

Did you apply proper thermal paste when mounting the CPU?
Stock coolers for an AMD64 only use thermal pads, and are adequate (only)
However, if you use anything else (if you have bought a boxed CPU) you void your warranty, according to AMD.

Hi Label23, welcome to TSF...

does anything show in the Event Log relating to the times of the shutdowns?

Also, after it shutdowns the next time, check the CPU and MoBo temps in BIOS as it may be a sign of overheating.

Another thing to check is your PSU voltages..you can use a program such as SpeedFan or SensorsViewPro to gather that data.

Post back any further details please.

Hi.
I have a problem. Everytime I try to load a PC game (ex. Need For Speed Underground), my computer restarts, without any warning! What can it be? My girlfriends PC just started to do the same when she tries to start The Sims2.
We think it might be ZoneAlarm because we just updated it, and the problem first came thursday evening, after the update!
We sit in a LAN with connection to the internet. We both have ZoneAlarm and Anti-virus.

My comp is:
1Ghz Athlon
384ram
2 HD, one 80 and one about 50GB.
As far as I remember my PSU is 350W

Hobe u guys can help me...

Answer:Windows restart when loading PC game!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

If you right click my computer select properties then the advanced tab click on startup and recovery settings and uncheck the box that says automatically restart also set the memory dumping option to none.

Then the next time your computer crashes you will be able to see what is causing the problem.

Write down the error code and any driver etc that is identified and then post the results here.

Regards Howard :grinthumb

Ps please will you fill in your system specs in my.TS.forum at the top of this page(click on edit profile). This will help us to help you quicker.

Hello.

Two months ago I added x2 1gb Geil ram to my x2 512mb Crucial ram. The pc ran fine for a month but then it started randomly restarting every 8 hours or so when playing a game. A couple days later my pc was getting the BSoD even if I opened Internet Explorer and looked at a couple pages with HTML (alienware site).

I turned off auto restart and I started getting the BSoD "STOP:0x0000008E". I took out the x2 Geil sticks and still got the error.
I tried playing with one stick at a time and I got the BSoD with each one. I ran memtest on each one for 10 hours each and one Geil stick was faulty.

I searched Asus and it seems that 1gb geil isn't compatible with my mobo. I decided to get x4 sticks of 1gb Crucial ram, because it is the same brand that came with my PC. I now started getting "STOP:0x00000050" nv4_disp.dll PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I decided to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows, same problom after I got everything installed and tried the game.

It seems that the more ram I have in the more frequently the BSoD pops up. I tested each stick alone in slot one for 10 hours in memtest, all passed. I ran a Prime95 Torture test on each one alone for 10 hours, no errors.

I am getting many different BSoD's now. It seems random which ones I get. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, PFM_LIST_CORRUPT, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. STOP:0x0000008E, STOP:0x00000050, STOP:0x000000D1 mouclass.sys.

It has gotten worse and... Read more

Answer:Random restart/bsod, especially when in a game.

Give your motherboard a visual inspection to check for signs of overheating. Look at the capacitors (upright cylinders) for signs of bulging or discolouration, especially near the CPU.
Look for pits on voltage regulators (small flat usually black blocks flat against the motherboard).
Dirt that has been blown into the memory slots.
If you find any sign of the first 2, your board should be replaced. Sorry.

Hi all,

My computer's been acting really funny lately, and I was hoping someone might be able to help me out since I have no idea what's going on.

Recently, whenever I play a game, any game, after a bit the screen will go black and the computer restarts on its own for no apparent reason.

The computer I use is an AMD Athlon 1.5ghz, 512 MB RAM, and Radeon 9600 pro. I have the latest drivers installed. I've also ran a virus check using avast, used adaware to scan for spyware and adware, and defragmented my harddrive.

It started acting funny only recently. I know there might be a conflict somewhere but I can't figure out what the heck is causing it to do that. Here is my hijackthis log to give you an idea of what's running:

Answer:Black screen and restart during game

Usually these problems are cured by updating to the latest drivers for chipset\graphics inc; DirectX, also there are very few games get released without needing a patch almost immediately to fix that kind of problem and I have to say its normally ATI drivers are worst for it (no I'm not a Nvidia devotee I run systems with each in, just pointing out a fact) the VPU recovery thingy I find causes more problems than it cures, but they promise the driver that's out in a couple of weeks will cure all problems forever, well it is 60Mb in size and requires .NET to be installed to run, just another 28Mb, hope the majority of ATI owners are on broadband!

The latest Catalyst was released 2 days ago, try it if you hav'n't already.

Are there some games more prone than others, trying to find out if OpenGL is the problem or D3D, ATI have a poor record with GL for some reason.

Okay i'm back with another problem after resolving my old hard drive problem less than a month ago. As of last night when ever I jump on to my game PoE(path of exile), the game will run for some random amount of time usually like 10-15minutes until it just crashes with no pop up error and then my computer just restarts with out displaying a BSoD.

I'm guessing I have some sort of virus in my computer because this is the 2nd issue within a month. I'm running on a 3week old hard drive and will be receiving another one from my warranty claim on Tuesday. I will be with out a harddrive for about 1-2 days so i'm going to try to resolve this before that happens but I have no idea where to start so If you guys could help me get started trouble shooting that would be terrific!

Thanks!

What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?

I have an X201 Tablet (3113-W4M) that came preloaded with Windows XP SP3.  I blew away the XP image and reloaded with Windows 7 Enterprise and obtained all Windows 7 drivers from the Lenovo website. The issue is that after the system resumes from Sleep or Hibernate *and* I plug in a USB mouse or USB mouse/keyboard combo, I am unable to lock, shutdown, restart, or hibernate the system.  Additionally, anything that invokes UAC fails to display.  If I look at Processes under Task Manager, I see where consent.exe is running (called when a UAC approval prompt should be displayed).  Sometimes it is running multiple times corresponding to multiple events that should have displayed the prompt (e.g. running RegEdit).  Turning off UAC is a workaround to this issue but does not address the root cause and does not address the lock/shutdown/etc. issue. After extensive troubleshooting that included 2 full OS reloads, process monitoring, and deep log reviews, I have narrowed my issue to the following steps: 1) Boot tablet with no USB mouse and/or keyboard attached2) Attach USB mouse and/or keyboard>>>Attempt to lock workstation and launch Regedit both function as expected.3) Hibernate tablet (USB mouse and/or keyboard attached)4) Resume from hibernate (USB mouse and/or keyboard attached)>>>Attempt to lock workstation and launch Regedit both fail I discovered this as I move my system from work (Logitech S510 keyboard/mouse c... Sorry for the lengthy post.

I built a new computer for my sister with Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit.

Everything was set up with no problems. I started installing some games of hers that she currently has on her XP machine, with no problems.

Some she had downloaded from Amazon and I saved the install folders so we wouldn't have to download again. Some were from CD's.

One game by PlayFirst is called Diner Dash Hometown Hero. For some reason I had made a backup of the installed program folder on her Win XP machine. I don't know why. I thought this was the game installer, so I ran the game and it seemed to start, but it first gave a message searching for updates (which her XP game doesn't). Then I saw that she had a CD for the game and this was just a backup of the folder.

So I deleted that folder and installed the game from the disc. It installed fine, but when I reboot it opened the install folder. I couldn't figure out why. I uninstalled the game and rebooted and the folder still opened but was mostly empty. I deleted the folder and then got an error message that the folder didn't exist.

I searched the Start folder for all users and her user, I ran autoruns64 and couldn't find anything and I searched through the task scheduler and couldn't find anything. I then searched the registry and found 2 entries for the game (not startup) and deleted them. I also ran glarysoft reg cleaner and disk cleanup. I searched through startup items and services in msconfig a... Read more

Well after a few days pondering what the **** could be wrong with my rig, I've boiled it down to what I'm about to detail.

Initially when I first bought my LG 4167B DVD/RW BLACK optical drive it worked a treat, until recently where I've found that when using that particular drive my computer would just restart within a game, even Heroes of Might and Magic one! My new LG drive was the replacement of my BenQ cd-rom drive and I set it up just fine. I also have a Samsung cd/rw optical drive which works just fine when I use it in games. Now I am getting no system errors of any sort, I don't have the computer set to automatically restart so I thought to myself, faulty drive, hmmm I don't think so, otherwise it should've have started off faulty I assumed, so I boiled it down to this one thing, PSU problems, not a sufficient enough PSU, even though I THINK it's supposed to be a 500W Ritmo, which I have found to be a non-recommended PSU AT ALL, 'shifty' PSU so to say. ALso, when I shoved in my SWKotOR cd and the game started up, when I got to the menu the screen just went all fuzzy and weird and if I left it that way for a couple of seconds the computer would restart and if i quickly exited the computer screen stayed all fuzzy and weird, forcing me to restart or continue to lookat this weird and fuzzy screen.

Now I'm assuming this, the cdrw drive doesn't use as much power/ampage as the DVD drive, so when I use the DVD Drive in conjunction with my graphics card (which happens to... Read more

Answer:In game restarts/fuzzy screen restart

Well if you do get a new PSU, order one from newegg.com (or your favorite site) and install it yourself. Installing a PSU is very easy. All you have to do is unplug all the old wires, unscrew 4 screws from the back of the case, rip out old PSU, and then do everything in reverse.

Now, I don't think a bad PSU would give you a "fuzzy screen". So, I'm going to say that would be a video card problem. Whether the video card is actually bad or not, I can't really say...but it could be a driver issue as well. Have you tried different drivers?

And as the case may be, I've got quite a worrying problem since a Windows 10 update.Several weeks ago a Windows 10 update downloaded and installed itself automatically and since the next restart of my computer, I got a more and more recurring problem. When I play a game, it now often crashes blank and I can't close it even if I stop the process. Hello,

I have been having this issue for a while and just haven't been able to detect what the problem could possibly be. I built this computer about 8 months ago, and have had a problem where my computer will just randomly BSOD. This tends to happen about once a day a few seconds after closing a fullscreen game, but it's completely inconsistent. And then after that happens, I'm forced to power down the machine. I'll boot it back up, and sometimes it will BSOD again after logging in. This could happen after a few more restarts, or this might not happen at all. Again, completely inconsistent, and I've decided to finally try and diagnose the problem. I would really appreciate your help in solving this. I've attached the collected information. Thank you!

Answer:BSOD occasionally after closing fullscreen game and after restart

Hi,

I got the same problem over the previous months when I play Football Manager 2011 on my Toshiba laptop.

The game needs a lot of CPU usage at some time (when I move step ahead, CPU and game create other teams results and create next news and so on) and it breaks after 1-2 hours of playing.

It gets louder and louder and thats all!
PC restarts automathically and I lost my time useless!

It might be overheating processor but I get this problems only while playing this game.
I can forget to play while listening to some music from Youtube or other source or having Skype chat in the background, then it remains only for couple of minutes and it restarts PC again and again.

Whats wrong ? Overheat or anything else ?
Maybe I just need to reinstall whole Windows or game (FM 2011) ?

I use: Toshiba C670-105 / Intel Cor i3 2,53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Win 7 Home Premium, 64-bit SP1, 300 GB HDD, DirectX10, NVIDIA GeForce 315M

My savegame is currently about 180 MB. And of course my laptop is above of minimal requirements to play this game.

Any hints ?

Answer:Satellite C670-105 unwanted restart while playing some game

> Whats wrong ? Overheat or anything else?
Well, I think nobody would be able to say exactly why the unit shuts off without any further investigation.
Generally the notebook could power OFF due to high temperature and high temperature is mostly the reason for unwanted automatic shuts downs.

Did you ever clean the notebook?s cooling fans in the past?
No?! Probably the dust and debris inside the cooling modules prevent the fans from running with best performance and cause high temperature which leads to the shut down.

I would recommend you to use an compressed air spray in order to get rid of dust. But sometimes such cooling modules need to be cleaned professionally.
But try the compressed air spray firstly.
