Adobe Flash Player giving me fits

Question: Adobe Flash Player giving me fits

Every time I go to a site that uses AFP it says that I do not have the latest version and directs me to the Adobe site. I go there and dutifully upgrade that which I have "upgraded" many times before and it still does not work.

The only thing that has been successful is to simply uninstall the Flash Player and then use RegScrub to eliminate all vestiges of it and then reinstall until the next time it fails.

What is happening that makes the program not work even though I already have the latest version and why don't the "upgrades" work causing, me to have to jump through hoops?

The same thing happens at Youtube.com, military.com, etc.

Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just installed Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X (10.1.102.64). According to the Adobe site, it is installed correctly, and my Add-On Manager lists the device as "Enabled". Still, PlayList.com won't pull up my music, and tells me to download the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player. This IS the latest version! I deleted the program and downloaded it again. It still doesn't work. If anyone has a clue, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Answer:Adobe Flash Player Is Giving Me Hot Flashes!

A possibility!! Securnia informed me of issues with Flash, I deleted it with Revo and reloaded the newest version. I still had problems, what I ended up doing was getting the removal program off the Adobe site. Flash leaves all sorts of stuff behind which seems to affect the program, it may be worth a try for you doing the same.

Is there a way to force Google Chrome to use NPAPI plugin--Yes, here is temporary work around:

add this to your Google chrome shortcut

Flash will not be sand boxed.

Answer:Adobe Flash is giving me a headache.

I don't use Chrome, but I believe the flash update will come from a Chrome update.
Have you checked for a new version of Chrome ?

fyi
Flash is built into Win 8.1 IE, so flash updates for IE come in through Windows Updates (for IE).

We have IE 6. Say a user goes to MSN.com. The ad on the right is a Flash object. Some of our users will see that object flickering when scrolling up or down on the page or when hovering their mouse over it. It's quite annoying. Almost all users are running Adobe Flash Player 9, but I think I've seen this happen on systems with Macromedia Flash Player 8 as well. Other systems don't have the problem. I've seen this happen on one system and not another while both seemed to have the same Flash objects installed.

Uninstalling all Flash players using Adobe's prescribed Flash Player uninstall tool seems to work at first, but users later complain again. Note that they just about always end up installing Flash Player 9 again, because sites ask for it. I don't believe I've seen this on any XP systems at all, including my own, but most of our users have Win2K.

Does anybody know why this happens or how to permanently fix it?

Thanks,
Hotshot309

Answer:Ie 6 - Flash Objects Flickering - Using Adobe Flash Player 9 Activex R28 (shockwave Flash Object V. 9.0.28.0)

More info: Adobe Flash Player 9, Macromedia Flash Player 8, and Macromedia Flash Player 10 all produce the same result--Flash objects that flicker when you put your mouse over any part of them. Moving Flash objects will flicker constantly while moving and stop flickering when the animation is done. SWF files (at least the one at www.stormwerks.com/linked/stuf/AYB2.swf) work without a problem when using Adobe Flash Player 9.

If I don't have Adobe Flash Player 9 installed, the Win2K machines prompt me to install them for almost any site that uses Flash (I guess most recent Flash objects cannot be viewed with the older Macromedia Flash Players).

Any suggestions?

To completely uninstall and remove Adobe Flash Player from your Windows computer, use Adobe Flash Uninstaller.
Download it by clicking here.
Next, close all your programs including your browsers and run Adobe Flash Uninstaller. It executes on both 64-bit and 32-bit version of the Windows operating systems.
Delete all the files in this folder: C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\FlashC:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash%appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player%appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player
Once you do this, restart your computer.
Open your browser and check the status of Flash Player by going here.

This pop-up is driving me crazy! It pops up on the video screen I want to watch in Fox News website -- I haven't noticed it popping up on other sites as yet. It will list the site asking for permission to store information on my computer. The link I have attached below gives instructions on how to remove this pop-up. Is this flash player thing safe or is it some kind of virus or malware? The attached link refers to it as spyware. If I were to remove the Flash player program, will it affect playing games or whatever on my laptop. I need help, please.

I am having a problem with Adobe Flash Player. I did an uninstall using an uninstaller provided at another forum and a Reboot and a reinstall and Reboot.
The programs that are on my notebook, XP sp2 that were the New Reinstall are:
Adobe Shockwave Player Vers. 10.1.4.20
Adobe Flash Player Activex 9.0.45.0

I am trying to get the Video to work at the following news site (the audio works); the site is:
http://www.aptn.ca/streaming/

I don't know if I have the whole Adobe Flash Player program or something is missing??

I did the clean reinstall b/c I thought that the existing Flash Player might be corrupt.
But this has made no change. All I get is a green window and Audio????

I am wondering if anyone has encountered such a problem before??? I simply don't know anything about Adobe or streaming.

Thankyou for your time.

Answer:Adobe Shockwave player/Adobe Flash Player Activex

The video wont work for me on the site either, with FireFox or IE. i think its a problem with the site. Maybee a few others can go on and confirm that. If not im in the same boat! I doubt it though as I dont have any problems with media on any other sites.

Adobe Flash Player has several variants for different operating systems and browsers and is now on version 11.9.  The active-x variant is used with Windows Internet Explorer.  There is another Windows variant for plugin based browsers, such as Firefox.  There are variants for Mac OS X and Linux, although the last version produced for Linux was 11.2.

Well I am using Windows Vista Home Premium edition with Mozilla Firefox. I never had any trouble watching the Myspace videos and Youtube videos before. It was just a few days ago, when I updated my Adobe Flash player that I can't view the Myspace videos, and the newer Youtube videos that use the Beta they got. It says I either have Javascript turned off or need the latest flash player.

I have Javascript turned on and installed the latest flash players and everything a million times, and still nothing.

This is aggravating me and I am wondering what I could possibly do to solve my problem.

If I click the quick start icon, the icon is highlighted for maybe three seconds and then is no longer highlighted. Upon looking at the task manager, I see the process being started and then disappearing from the list. It stays in the task manager for the same duration as the quick start icon is highlighted. Hi,

My friend recently asked me to help her download some music video flv files from the website MTVIggy. I normally use Orbit Downloader for saving flv's I like from youtube but it doesn't seem to work on this site. I've tried a program called Replay Media Catcher but ut also doesn't work. Does anyone know of a program/tool that is actually capable of downloading the flv files from MTVIggy?

Thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

As the site is owned by Viacom/MTV, my guess is that it is DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected and videos can't be downloaded. I normally use Real Player when I need to download embedded videos but I don't think it will work and I'm not aware of a free product that will download DRM protected videos.

I uninstalled Adobe Flash with their uninstall tool because I read somewhere you needed to update it because of major security flaw. I went over to the Adobe website to try and find an update, as well as a tutorial on how to update, as I had no idea what version I had. Their website is a mess unless you want to purchase something, and then you can find whatever your want. Since I had no idea what version of player, I just DL their uninstall tool, then DLed their new flash. I used their uninstall tool, and then reinstalled the new Adobe Flash Player. The only PU that came up was that it couldn't install in Opera. I went looking to try and configure it, then I read in the post below, you had to go to the link, http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ for shockwave, and figured it would lead me to flash and all that crap. I remembered what a PIA it was. I went over there, and it says flash works, but I still don't know if it's the latest flash or not. On the right it says I need to install "other sw", but that probably because I don't have shockwave installed. BTW, when I used their uninstaller from an administrator account, it completely wiped out my FX profile in the limited user account for some reason. It didn't do anything to the FX profiles in the administrator's accounts. I keep an updated copy of the limited user account's FX profile, and just reinstalled it, but I'm sick and tired of adobe flash and all the BS your have ... Read more

Answer:Adobe Flash uninstall tool,& is there a better/safer flash player w/o the hassles?

The flash player for IE and Firefox is in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash. The IE one is called Flash9f.ocx and for Firefox its NPSWF32.dll.

You can view current version, by going to a page with a flash object on the web page, right click on the Flash object and select About Adobe Flash Player 9 and it will take you to Adobe site and display version.
You can also get version from the files about on the Version or Details tab of its properties.

As for removal, just either use the Uninstall tool in the same folder (See above) or delete all the files in the folder to remove it.

I have been reading your forums for sometime and have been able to fix minor problems with your help, so I hope you guys can help me now.

I have a Gateway laptop 3018gz that I purchase three years ago. My extended warranty gave out in August and soon after I started having problems. The latest one is a doozy.

On 9/8, it was working fine. No new installs, except an update to Yahoo Messenger. I turned it off that night before going to bed.

On 9/9, went to turn it on, it gave me a BSOD,and instantly restarted. I was able to stop the restart, but never got the BSOD again. I restarted it and it froze and the screen scrambled. Has been doing this ever since. Sometimes the display won't even come up. I can hear the computer going (I hear the fan and the HD) and I hooked it up to another monitor to see if the screen was going, but it didn't work either. I was able to do a recovery on it, but just as it finished the screen froze again and scrambled.

I initially thought this was some sort of virus or trojan horse, but now I am not so sure.

Please help!!!!!!

Answer:Laptop Giving Me Fits!

Can you give us any info from the BSODs? Are you able to start in safe mode to look at the event viewer?

If you can start in safe mode, you may wish to uninstall Yahoo Messenger for the moment. Look at the add - remove programs area and see if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 <-- this has not been used for more than 2 years.
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

Then install the proper version of Spybot as given in the READ ME. MAKE SURE to uncheck the option for using Teatimer.

Hello again:

I don't mean to hog the forum but I have one more issue which has me at wit's end. I recently purchased OneDrive because I need to back up all that music I mention in the thread below among other things. So anyway, when I first started using it, it seemed to function seamlessly... until I noticed that the default setting was to sync to C: - which is inexplicable. I mean, if you are paying for 1TB of cloud storage and your system drive only has 500GB total, well over half of which is full, why would you sync twice that size data to C:? Anyway, no one here is expected answer for Microsoft's quirks but I panicked because I could figure out how to stop the sync and I was fast approaching "critical mass" on C:. So I gave remote access to a tech from Microsoft's OneDrive department and told him to just delete the music cache folder after unticking the sync to C: option (which I had been unable to find). This solved the problem, or so I thought. However, eve... Read more

I am so sick of .NET Framework. It has to be unequivocally, unarguably, and indubitably the worst program ever written by Microsoft.

I have been fighting with this mess for three days and I am no farther than when I started.

I cannot load 3.5 because it says I have not loaded 2.0 sp2.

I try to load 2.0 sp2 and it says I haven't loaded 2.0a.

I search for 2.0a and it does not exist. The Microsoft database does not have it anywhere in their search engine.

2.0 just simply won't load at all. I get error 25007. One help site said to rename a directory and then it would work. It didn't work!

Help sites have been no help at all. The Microsoft help pages are no better. One says that I need to load 2.0 SDKd but when it ends it says it cannot load because 2.0 is missing. The link on the page titled "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0" takes me to a page that is for .NET Framework 4.0!

4.0 says that it needs 3.5 loaded before it will load but it loads anyway.

3.0 won't load because it says it needs the phantom 2.0a.

3.5 won't load at all.

In desperation, I finally ran the program which removes all copies of .NET Framework except 1.0.

1.1 loaded just fine but 1.1 sp1 fails.

Is there ANY place I can find a step-by-step instruction for loading these programs from a RELIABLE source????

HELP!!! :cry

Answer:NET Framework giving me fits

Is this the utility you used for cleanup. It is supposed to able to remove from version 1 to 4.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx

I would remove .NET using ADD/Remove programs in control panel and then the cleanup tool.

Then install version 2 first skipping version 1.

Everytime I try to open a folder in Windows 2000 I get an error message that says "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result the page might not display correctly" And of course all that shows is an empty folder. I can get to my files by using search, but obviously that is very limiting. Here's how I got where I am. Visited lot sof less than reputable websites. Lots of Hijackers etc. Loaded Microsoft Beta anti spy software. It didn't work very well. I piddled with the settings and got myself in a lot of trouble. I did everything I could think of including uninstalling the software as well as re loading Windows 2000 over the top of the load I was running. I would gladly reformat my hraddrive and start from scratch if I could get to and save my files, but without being able to see in my folders, it would take a thousand years to find and save all the data I want to save. I've done some cursory research and experimentation with ActiveX, but needless to say, I don't have a clue what I'm doing. Any suggestions? I'm waiting for that whiz to come blazing in and save the day. I'll follow your suggestions and report back. Please help.

Thanks,

Answer:Active X giving me fits

Hi Jim.

ActiveX can be a real pain at times. When IE settings are altered, you can find yourself in a world of problems. The following M$ link may be able to help with that.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/using/howto/security/setup.mspx

Try running an online scan with Trend Micro (A/S) here:
http://www.trendmicro.com/spyware-scan/ It uses ActiveX so you may be unable to run it. The AV online scan is the same.
http://housecall60.trendmicro.com/en/start_corp.asp

The following "Freeware" program may be able to readjust your settings so that you are able to backup your files & do a reformat.

I recently did a destructive recovery system restore.... OK, no problems getting everything back up to working order, re-installed chrome, my VGA driver, etc...

But my damn wireless network adapter just won't stay connected when I try to download something. Literally, anything makes this thing lose connection other than just surfing the web. Loading videos and downloading are the culprits. This is what the networking utility looks like before I d/l. It'll usually go for about 5 seconds, then turns to this. I downloaded the most recent driver from Dynex, still no luck. Unplugging it from its little stand, waiting 3 seconds and then plugging it back in makes it work again, but the second I go to download anything again it switches back to that other disconnected mode. Restarting the comp will also do the same.

Thanks.

Should I uninstall Macromedia Flash Player in the "add/remove" section of control panel if I have Adobe Flash Player 10 active X already installed as well? This is confusing...do they do they perform the exact same function?

Answer:Both Adobe Flash Player & Macromedia Flash Player?

Macromedia was purchased by Adobe.
Before you remove it, find the Macromedia folder and right click the exe, if you see one, check the properties to see what version it is.

It might simply be an old version of flash from before Adobe purchased it.

I'm not sure if removing/uninstalling Macromedia flash will break anything, like an old game you might run.
So my advice is to copy everything from the Macromedia folder before you uninstall it. If something is broken, put it back exactly where it was. Be sure you right down the full path of the folder.

Reason for concern. I do training on a Ford Motor site and the site indicates that I must have Macromedia flash player and I have Adobe flash player not Macromedia flash player. My understanding is that they are both the same. Is that correct.

Answer:Macromedia flash player/ Adobe flash player

The site must be way out of date, Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2005.

What is the site's address?

OK, my pc is crashing a couple of times a day at this point. It runs fine all day while I'm working. As soon as it sits idle for a little while it's crashing. Not always, but it seems like it's pretty regular as far as being idle. It's completely locked up every morning when I wake up that's for sure. My event log shows tons of these sbp2port entries. Every couple of seconds for as long as it takes to lock up. I've done research on the error and it seems everyone is having trouble figuring out an answer. I've adjusted my paging file settings already. I've checked the file integrity with my xp install disk. Other than that I don't know where to look.

I read somewhere that malware can disguise themselves as this type of file, but I don't know if that's what I'm dealing with. I DO know that I got the virtumonde adware recently and got rid of it successfully..... I think. I don't know if this is still some remnants from that issue.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks. Matt

Started getting Pop-up ads in IE6 going to Google. No problem with other search sites or using other browsers. In general, computer running slow, Hourglass lingers longer than usual on desktop and Windows explorer. On reboot, get "updating configuration files". Ran Ad-Aware, Spybot, CWSredder from safe mode. Ad-aware shows CoolWebSearch. Also add/remove shows "shoppingwizard","offer optimizer", and "CasProg"

Followed the Major Geeks "How To: Spyware, Trojan and Virus Removal" ...
Didn't help.

Will post HijackThis log file if anyone will look at it.

Hi,
In trying to re-install W-7 Pro from a Microsoft install disk, I formatted the System partition and need to provide a driver to the install procedure. I've run into a problem: I downloaded the Western Digital driver to a thumb-drive but when I tell the W-7 installation procedure to find the driver on the thumb drive, and "DriverRestore.exe" from Western Digital appears on the file directory, I select the file, and press "Open", the installation procedure responds with "The specified location doesn't contain any information about your hardware"
But I'm sure that file is for the correct Hard Drive.
What to do?
This is a great Forum,
Thank you

Please help,
Using IE 6 I have been getting 'iexplore.exe error - create log and close down' whenever I go to certain sites, e.g. Windows Update and Travelocity.

I am running Win 2000 Pro on an IBM Think Pad R30. I am using AVG for anti-virus and Zone Alarm for firewall. I have run Spybot and Ad-Aware to remove spyware and rebooted my computer but the probelm persists. I have also run and Hijack This and only saved the log file but am not posting it until asked.

Please help me if you can - this is a nuisance and is really puzzling me.

Thanks,
Greg

Answer:iexplore.exe error giving me fits!

Hijackthis is not one of the first steps.

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal
If you already have any of the programs linked in the tutorial please double check your version to make sure you have the latest one and that you have any/all updates for the programs.

NOTE: In order to resolve the issues you are having it is very important that you at least try to perform all the steps as outlined. If you have any difficulty please post back letting us know what steps you have completed, what you found while doing the scans if anything and details about any problems you have encountered in completing the steps. The more details you can provide the better.
After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99.1 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program F... Read more

Not sure where this should end up,but I'm sure it will be guided to the correct forum,as always.
After doing quite a bit of reading today,I decided that the Adobe PDF viewer is a resource hog. I uninstalled any traces of it I could find in my add/remove programs part of my pc. Just a few minutes ago while reading another post here at BC, I discovered I had to install Adobe Flash player to view an article thru YouTube.
My question is how does flash differ from the pdf viewer? They're both an Adobe thing, right?

I opted to download a small viewer called Sumatra,by the way.

Thanks

Answer:Adobe flash player+Adobe pdf viewer

It's a different product and unlike Adobe Reader, there are no alternatives for Flash.

I am in big problem I will go mad soon..the situation is so - my girlfriend always watches previews of housewives at abc http://abc.go.com/primetime/desperate/index.html ; and there you need the newest adobe flash player installed...and so every time she wishes to watch it I must install adobe flash player again and again...and I check if there is something wrong with the web page, so I go to test my adobe schockwave player and adobe flash player there...and every time I see I really dont have this two on my system..so I am doing something very wrong..One day it works and then the next day I must install again..and so on..and on..

After I uninstall and install again everything is fine...It goes on my nerves, cause I many times install also yahoo toolbar with it..and then I have problems uninstalling this toolbar... I must then again install yahoo toolbar and then many times the uninstallation is not ok...and then again install yahoo and uninstall.. soon you will be able to visit me just in mental institution...
I dont know - is there any setting in explorer that deletes this two?...I use also regCure registry cleaner..maybe I really went mad

In short - why is adobe flash and schockwave escaping from my system..am I too ugly!? or I know too little about explorer settings ?

I have been trying to clone my windows 10 9879 installation to an empty SSD . I have tried the software that came with my Samsung drive (data migration) sometimes it sees the drives and sometimes it doesn't. If I get it to start the process it checks the system for about 7 seconds and then locks up and I have to hard shut down.
I downloaded and tried Seagate disk wizard but no luck with that either. The Seagate starts the process through a restart then just shuts down. I check the log on the Seagate software and see an error message about cannot determine sync agent services state. Also account not found but I fixed that by running as administrator.
Since I have the installation tweaked and working just the way I want it....as well as data and programs that have on this drive I would rather clone it to the SSD rather than do a clean install.
Any suggestions on cloning software or how to proceed.
Thanks for any input in advance.

Answer:Cloning my 9879 istallation is giving me fits......

First, to clone a disk. The destination disk must be equal or greater in size. I suggest to use : Macrium Reflect Free
to make a Windows backup image to another external drive then restore to your SSD.

NOTE: Make sure the SSD firmware is up to date and also run chkdsk C: /f on the Seagate HD.

error message comes up and the program locks up.

Anyone have an idea or something I could try? It worked fine on my computer before.

SO I doubleclick it again and the same thing this usually happens 4 to 5 times and then it finally takes me to the internet. once there it works fine. however everytime I clicked it even tho it didn't take me there it opened up iexplore.exe in the task manager under processes so now there is say 4 to 5 iexplore.exe processes running so when I want to shut down a box always comes up saying ending program you can end it now by pressing the button that says end now but the box comes back up, if you end it as many times as it is in the processes like 4 or 5 times then XP will finally shut down. I tried right clicking the e for internet explorer and then clicking open but it still doesn't until you do it a frw times then its the same when you try to shut down. I tried going to programs and clicking it there but same thing. Went into add and remove programs and then add/remove windows components and reset internet explorer and that didnt help. When I go to yahoo.com, not a single image shows up unless I'm NOT on the start page.
But if I right click and select view image, the image shows up on a separate page. Hit the back button, it's gone again,

I am using FIREFOX.

i'm going to assume you all know I did virus/spyware scans, cleared cookies, reinstalled firefox, the work. And still nothing.
And no, I am not going to reformat for something like this.
I remember I think I know what CAUSED this. My internet went down and this was the first page I tried to load while the net wasn't working. When the net came back, the images still wouldn't show. That was 2 weeks ago.
What could it be? This is killing me.

Aleady downloaded and installed Adobe Flash Player 11.4.402.265 a few days ago, as directed from the announcement window upon computer startup, to the adobe page link, to the download of this new version of Flash Player. The install a few days ago (downloaded first) was successful. YouTube videos work (although this was checked in other browsers, not in I.E.). This morning, another update announcement window appeared for Flash Player. I was expecting the button to give me the typical installer interface to automatically download then install Flash Player, but NO. Instead, the announcment window button gave me the web page to permit me to choose to download what I ALREADY have - version 11.4.402.265. I already have that version. Where then is the update? I would expect to see the two gray windows involving an update for v11.4, hopefully to give me some update higher than ...265, and not see another web page through my default browser.

I checked the adobe site to try feedback to report this but I had to face a mess of a website to move through (Adobe....) if I want that.

Anyone know if I may have some unknown fault on my system, or if this webpage is the right kind of way to get the update which I already have? Makes no sense to update version 11.4.402.265 with 11.4.402.265. Cannot tell adobe, cannot complain to adobe unless stuggle through their complicated website.

System: Windows XP sp3, laptop. Adobe Flash Player 11.4.402.265 been installed for past 3 d... Read more

Answer:Already do have adobe flash player 11.4.402.265

The last update for my Win XP IE8 flash player was thru a link provided by Adobe. The download and install for adobe flash update dialogue box could be different for Vista and Win 7. Adobe Flash Player 11.4.402.265 is the current release version. For Firefox, I check all plugins here http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

Question: Adobe Flash Player

Hi all, back again. Many thanks to all those who helped with my friends Internet Explorer missing 'Address' box....solved.He has one last problem that neither of us 'Silver Surfers' can crack....His OS is XP.I have installed the BBCiPlayer for him (brilliant free program). It opens fine but when he selects any program to view it will not play and he gets the message that he needs Adobe Flash Player...when he clicks on the link to Adobe and downloads the Flash Player, all appears OK but then he gets a message to say that the download has failed due to Windows not allowing an Active X application installation. We have tried all the links from there to try to get his system to accept the Flash Player, but to no avail...your help will be much appreciate. Mike

BUT, may I make a suggestion? You don't need Adobe Reader. You can use another less bloated and safer program to read pdf files.
1. Sumatra http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/sumatra_pdf.html
2. PDF-XChange Viewer http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/pdf_xchange_viewer.html
3. Foxit http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/foxit_reader.html

Recently I have been unable to play online flash games and watch youtube videos on IE7. I know it isnt javascript, and adobe has installed correctly as looking at my friends meegos on msn does work. I have also tried using subinacl when installing and switched to firefox, and both solutions did not work. Ive also tried deleting the "safeversions" folder from the registry, and as you can see im getting rather desperate.

There has to be a solution out there.

Im using a Sony Vaio VGN-C25T, Windows Vista Home Prem. and I know it is capable of running youtube as it has in the past. Anti virus software is AntiVir and I dont think that is related as the settings have not changed prior to this problem

Some help will be very appreciated,

fateaxis

Question: Adobe flash player

In Win 7 I got a warning to upgrade my adobe flash player to the new version 10... I used their uninstaller to get rid of the old one I had and downloaded the new version. The problem is that the file I downloaded is an installation program that when I go and run it the choice to install is greyed out and the only other choice is exit. How do I get it to install the new version in the right location? I don't even get a program to manually install it in the Macromedia portion where it is suppose to go. Anyone else experience this, and come up with a solution? Paul

Answer:Adobe flash player

As far as I know, the Flash player comes as a plugin that installs in your browser with an Active X version for IE and a different one for all other browsers. If by 'installation program' you mean you got an .exe file from the Adobe site, it's likely that you have the non Active X version. Some sites do offer an .exe version for IE but, if you go to the Adobe site using IE, you will be offerred the correct version and the installation is done while you are online via the Adobe Download Manager (which uninstalls at the next reboot).

Have a look at the Adobe Troubleshooter and see if anything in it helps with your problem; http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html

Curious....Flash Player 10.2 keeps popping up periodically (every few days) and says it needs to download/install an update. When I agree, the update is always version 10.2. It appears to download/install and everything seems fine, then a day or two or three passes and it does it all over again. This happens on more than one of my machines.

Question: Adobe Flash Player

Hello Everyone,

I am having a problem downloading the Adobe Flash Player, some sites, such as, my local news etc. Cannot show the graphics or suchlike because I don't have Adobe Flash Player installed, when asked do I want to install the flash player (I have lost count how many times I have been asked) I always click Yes to download it, But nothing happens.

I have even been to the Adobe site and tried to download the Flash Player from there, to no avail.

I have asked my grandson and daughter both, if they could try and download it for me, to no avail.

Is there something I am not doing right, or is there a problem with the Adobe site.

I am using Windows XP Pro, and Internet Explorer 7.

Or does anyone have a link to Adobe Flash player you know does work, I could save the link to My Documents and load it from there, Hopefully.

Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.

Judda.

I have searched the web for answers to this problem but have not found anything related to it which makes me believe this problem is unique to me. It is not an easy problem to totally explain, but here is generally what is happening with a couple of examples.

1) I go to web sites with video's such as YOU TUBE and IMDB. If I try to start a video, a new window in the upper leftcorner appears with the video. There seems to be no controls on the window that actually work.

2) To add to the problem the window seems to be trying to play other videos and everything flashes in and out.

3) Other websites that seem to use Flash Player will produce a small video at the left of the screen and as I scroll down, the video jumps down as well. It to is not playing right as it seem like it is pushing through a popup blocker or something.

It reminds me of Star Trek when something similar happens to them. I love Star Trek. I hate flash player. If there was another probram I could use I would. My computer is fairly new with Windows 7 64 bit and I do not have any exoctic programs on it.

It is driving me crazy. It seem to start when I updated the FLASH PLAYER last. I did remove it and of course, no pop up videos, but also of course, no videos at all. This would say that it is a problem with flash player which is causing it or can not stop it.

Hope somene can figure this one out for me.

It would be nice if Adobe had a help system. They have technical support but they charge for that or ... Read more

Answer:Adobe flash player 10 - pop ups

I'm not sure what's going on with 1 and 2 but 3 sounds like a flash advertising or info window and it moves down a page as you scroll so you can't get away from it. Its very annoying.
For 1 and 2 I can only suggest you try the Chrome browser and see if its still wonky or not.
