Preferred Solution: windows update cant install flash player security updates

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

>> I am running MS XP SP2 and my automatic update from MS keeps trying to install "security update for flash player KB923789" toddler <<

I'm not really sure if this will help you in your situation, but here goes:

A few months ago I was having an "already been installed" problem with flash. Every time I went to a site that required Flash to view any videos; the site would invariably produce an error message saying that I needed to "upgrade" my Macromedia Flash Player. When I'd then upgrade and return to the video sites; I would continue to receive the same exact error over and over again!

In any case, using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller fixed this problem (in a "flash" so to speak) and consequently allowed me to install the latest version of the Macromedia Flash Player (at this link) without any problems; and I'm now able to view videos again.

As I said, I'm not sure if this is exactly "the fix" that you need, but it's worth a try!

Good Luck

Is this true?

Hi.
Thank you for all your support and security updates for my two Surface RTs.
They?re great and I don?t want to see them go.  A quick aside? It would be nice for my two Surface RTs and me, if Microsoft had a change of heart and decided to port Windows 10 RT with Office RT for Surface RT and get a few
more years support.  Anyway.
Today one of my Surface RT 8.1 provided the option on shut down, to update and restart, which I did.
It said it was installing 4 updates.  When rebooted, I went to view update history and found two failed updates and three successful ones for a total of five.
The first one in the list that failed is this one here below.

Then to get more information, I clicked the link shown there for 4048958 to learn more.
That took me to the Microsoft Security Update Guide, where I searched for 4048958 and was provide two links for RT 8.1.
Both links, one for IE11 and one for RT 8.1, go to the KB 4048958 article, which says to get more information, go to the Security Update Guide, which of course takes one back to the KB.
Not very informative loop I guess.
The second update that is on the list above showing as failed, is the one for Adobe to prevent remote code execution.
When I am in Windows Update and double-click the failed entry for Adobe, and then click the link for more information, it takes me to a URL that does not show a KB number and provides a link for more i... Read more

I have recently been getting a message to update to adobe flashplayer pro to view site and have been also getting a message to update the media player. I looked at the versions  I am running and they are the latest. I was told to do the Adobe while I was navigating to this page just a moment ago. When I am at some sites I have also gotten a box that says my media player is infected and needs to clean files. While in MSN.com home page I have gotten a poor pc performance box that comes up and it is kind of shaking when it appears. I don't know if this is an infection or what but am very wary of this type of stuff after fighting with other infections in the past. I posted this in another forum and was instructed to possibly try this one. Please let me now if you may need more information and I will reply. Thank you for your time and efforts. Jack Perrin.

Hi I don't know if this is the right area for this post but we have been having some problems with the security update for the flash player, it keeps failing to download and if it does it doesn't update the computer, we have been on the macromedia website and tried installing the new player which would apparently fix the problem but although it says the download was successful it hasn't made any difference. Has any one else come across this problem if so please help.

From Oxygen3 24h-365d, by Panda Software (http://www.pandasoftware.com)
Macromedia has released a new version of Macromedia Flash Player to resolve a vulnerability -discovered in Internet Explorer and Opera- which could be used to access certain local files.

Although the problem has been detected in Internet Explorer and Opera, an attacker could exploit it in combination with the local Flash data file to access other information stored on the affected system.

The update supplied by Macromedia stores Flash files in a way that they cannot be accessed by applications other than Flash Player, preventing applications such as Internet Explorer or Opera from using them. This stops an attacker from exploiting vulnerabilities in these browsers to access -via Flash files- other information on the system.

Macromedia has classified the update as 'important' and recommends that users install it. This is all the more important bearing in mind that at present there are no patches for the vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer and Opera.

The new Macromedia Flash Player (7,0,19,0) is available at:

In the past I have accepted Adobe requests to update the Flash Player with no problem. Now I get a security notice that states my "current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded". I am no sure is this message is coming from Windows or Norton. Anyone else run into this?

Answer:Adobe Flash Player Update Security Notice

DPitts, welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

This is most likely Norton blocking the download. You need to go into Norton & allow this Adobe update.

Flash Player plug-in - Critical Browser Security Update For most users the flash player is an integral part of their browser environment (e.g., Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc). Hi, I haven't been able to install the Adobe Flash Player update (not sure which version but I guess it's 10.1), I get a message that says, 'an error has occurred, unable to install the update, ensure you are connected to the internet and try again'. It happened before in the past but I tried a second time a week later when the notification reappeared and I managed to install it ok. Hi,

Some time ago, my Windows installer downloaded an update to the Flash Player, designated as KB923789. The installation failed, so I figured that somehow it became corrupted. So, I went back to the site and downloaded it again. Same thing happened.
Then, I decided ta heck with it, I'd just remove the download from my computer and try to download it again (Or not... I'm easy).
I can't find it. I've done searches for both KB923789 and Flash Security Update, and neither show up in a search. I've looked in my Downloads file and my Received Files folders and can't locate them there (But if they were there, it would have shown up in a search, I'm thinking).
It's a bummer, because every time I go to shut down, I'm asked to install the file and although it's not a problem to ignore the request, I'd like to solve the issue.
Any ideas out there?

Thanks,

Boo

Answer:Flash Security Update Won't Install

Hi Boo,

If you got to start and go on run then just copy or type this in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
make sure its all that to the point and then when the folder opens double click on FlashUtil9C and then click on install.
You need to be connected to the internet.
That will install flash again from default and it should be ok from then on.

If you do want to find that install the was done from windows update go to
http://www.update.microsoft.com/micr....aspx?ln=en-us
if you just type that in or Click HERE for it instead of typing it in, It will show you your update history.

Hope it goes well, If not just let me know

Did use the Reset Reregister Windows Updated but without success. PC comes in the restart loop due to the above before all downloads are done.

Any help is welcome

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:

Answer:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... I recently (one week ago) made myself a dual-boot to Windows Vista SP2. I installed everything I needed and set the Windows updates to Automatically install updates. When I needed to make a video smaller (no need to talk about this in this thread) on Handbrake it said I needed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. I was surprised to see that. I went to see what Windows updates does and it wasn't checking for updates, as I set it to do. I started the check myself. I left it like that 30 minutes. When I closed my game, it was in the same state: checking for updates. So, I went to my .NET Framework 4 installer and, after 15 minutes, it gave an error: another installer is running. There were no installers, besides Windows update. So, I closed its process and let the installer run. After 15 minutes, it gave me an error (I don't remember the name of the error, I'll post it ASAP). So, I started researching, tried everything (MS FIXIT 50202, reset windows update history, reregister windows update components which gave me error 1060 and error 5 - error 5 is after trying MS FIXIT). I tried to "force" the .NET Framework 4 install by installing it step-by-step: 1.1  1.1 SP1  3.5  4. No succes. I AT LEAST need to install that .Net Framwork somehow. And the most interesting part is that my antivirus doesn't say that my OS is not up-to-date . SPECS: 6GB RAMAMD Athlon ll X4 750K 3.2-4.0 GHzAMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

I get a message when viewing certain web pages that I need to install Adobe Flash Player. I install it, restart the browser and/or restart the computer and get the same message again to install Flash Player. The result is the same with IE7, FireFox and Chrome.

I've installed Adobe Flash Player several times. Finally, I found a site from which I could download the installer and run it from my desktop. That didn't help either.

I have disabled antivirus and all internet security programs. I also recently formatted the only partition on the only hard disk, restored the computer to its original factory configuration due to malware infestation. I am certain there is no malware involved. I also enabled scripting in IE7.

Answer:Installed Flash Player and still getting messages to install Flash Player

Check your current version of Flash, assuming there is one, by going to this page;http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15507&sliceId=2 Unless your 'restoration' has left you with a really old version, you may have to run the Adobe uninstaller first (unless you have already!);http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=1

This will remove the Flash plugin from every browser you have installed, so you will have to reinstall the Active X version for IE and the non Active X one for the others. These links work for me if I use the relevant browser to d/l them, but if I click on the IE link using Opera, I get the version for Opera;

IE : http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/static/styx/English.html (read the installation instructions carefully)

Firefox, Opera etc.:http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

Hi, I am having teething troubles with my new laptop Acer 6930G RUNNING VISTA PREMIUM 32 BIT. I can't get windows to update nor can I download new version of ADOBE FLASH PLAYER. It has Mcafee pre installed and I have tried with that firewall disabled but still no good. The lack of Suport from Acer and Microsoft is unbelievable! This must be a common issue but I have been trying for over a week to sort it. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN. I am fairly sure it is not a virus or trojan or whatever as it was like this straight out of the box. I did receive error code 80072ee2 once when trying to update windows.

Any thoughts anyone?

I know Flash Player Update.exe is not necessary, accidently re-added it to after update Adobe Flash Player recently. But any ideas why when the blasted thing tries to run itself, the nuisance popup for Windows No Disk error message incessantly pops up? And yes, Device Manager shows an missing USB device that wasn't properly shutdown & safely removed, but I hadn't used one recently.

Had this prob a while ago & just killed FP Update.exe in msconfig but for the life of me I can't put 2 & 2 together as to why it's causing the popup!

All the usual scans (Spybot, SAS, MBAM ect) appear to be good to go.

Windows XP SP3 MCE
Latest Adobe Flash 11.3.300.265
running non-admin account (rarely use my admin acct so don't know if it happens there)

thx!

After updating my pc i started having a well known issue with realtek hd audio and my sound;
i had a popup baloon appearing saying 'you just unplugged a device from the audio jack' and then no sound.
and then somtimes reapering saying the oposite and got sound again.

i found some temporary fixes like going to device manager and disabling then reenabling Realtek, or running the inbuilt windows troubleshooter for audio and sound, but after a reboot same issue came back.
i tried to uninstall the drivers then reeinstal them but it didnt help.

so i restored the pc to before the update wich was like 4 days ago, and now everything seems to be fine.

in this windows update there was an update of Flash player for IE ,and i somehow suspect that this is the culprit.

might also be the update i manualy made for Firefox since i saw there was a new flash player version.

the reason i suspect it is the flash player faults is that when i had no sound, when trying to watch a video on youtube i got "an error occured", which wouldn't happen while i had sound, but i didnt really looked into this issue enough to verify it.

anyhow the problem now is that i would like to get those windows"important security updates"without them messing my pc.
and what to do with future updates?, i thought of hidding these ones so i know wich are the new ones.

Thanks.

these are the updates:

Answer:windows update or Flash Player causing issue with RealTek

Do you have all the Windows 8.1 and 8.1.1 updates? There were some isolated sound issues after the 8.1 update and the current updates assume 8.1 has been installed.

If you go to the Desktop and then start Internet Explorer, Click on Tools then Windows Update. You can then select which updates you want to install (uncheck the Flash Player update for example). You can select all the ones you want or only select one at a time, install that (or them) and then see if sound is still working.

Hello Sir/Mdm,

Whenever I click on a contact's name on MSN Messenger, it tells me that I need to install 'Flash Player', which wasn't suppose to happen. Also when I start up my computer, a window always popped up (I can't remember what it said now cos sometimes it does it, sometimes it don't), it's as if something is blocking a file or program from loading. I just did a virus scan and I found it to have 8 viruses in total, 3 of the trojan.downloader.gen, 3 of the trojan.downloader.gen/win and also 2 of the worm.sdbot variant plus an adware tracking cookie as well. Pls help?

Hi Guys, i have an issue on my laptop (windows XP, service pack 2, norton 2009 AV) i cannot install any windows security updates, earlier this year i think i had the Conficker virus because i couldn't access any anti virus sites or microsoft, at the time i had AVG Free antivirus which i assumed was causing the problem so i uninstalled it to install Norton instead,, anyway to cut a long story short i used another forum and by posting the hi-jack log and running combofix i was able to load Norton, get onto antivirus sites, Microsoft etc but am still unable to install windows updates and SP3, the help on the old forum seems to have dried up, so i hope some one on here may be able to finalise my problemsThanks in advance Gary

There are two critical updates KB 945553 and KB 948590 which will not install either on automatic updates or through windows update. I get an error code 0x80070005 which I know means access denied, but I don't know why or how to rectify this. I have run the MGAdiag.exe which shows that my copy of XP is genuine,(found this as a possible solution through Google) but this made no difference. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

I use Microsoft's automatic updates and it recently dowloaded 6 updates but for some reason they won't install. It runs through them one by one but then just says...failed! after each attempt. I recently had the Google redirect virus that I finally got rid of so I'm not sure if something has been damaged in the process.

Here are the updates that won't install:

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2416447)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982168)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2418241)
Security Update for .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB983583)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982524)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

Does anyone have any ideas? Is this a problem? Is there a way to fix it. I appreciate any help

Thanks
DG

Answer:Windows XP security updates won't install

I had the same problem about a month ago. It was suggested that I should uninstall and reinstall all versions of .NET Framework using Add/Remove Programs and the .NET Framework cleanup utility. I uninstalled .NET Framework 3.5 and I decided not to reinstall it as I suspected I might not need it. I have had no problems and no more updates. When I tried to uninstall .NET Framework 2.0, it would not do so because I need the program. So you may need some versions of the program and may not need others depending on whether you have an app that needs it. .NET Framework is a very confusing product.

hello,

i've been having some problems with my computer as it suddenly became unbearably slow, so i thought it could be the copy of windows xp, as i've had problems with windows xp before. so i formatted the drive and installed a new copy of windows xp home edition. the problem started when i tried using windows update to download the available updates, some of the available updates downloaded and installed normally, but when i tried to download and install security and critical updates the computer turns off during the install of the first update, when i turn it on and try to update again it says all updates are downloaded and ready for install, and when i try installing again the computer turns off while installing the update, i tried removing the first update from the list, but the same happened again and again. and while typing this in the computer turned off and i did not even try to install any updates, i just got more confused.

please help, i'm going crazy..........

I am attaching the frst logs along with this thread.

My problem is the one people seem to have faced before. Upon trying to browse google, I get the message - WARNING! Your Flash Player may be out of date. Please update to continue.
This redirection happens regardless of the browser (ie, chrome, Firefox).
I tried running malware bytes and quickheal antivirus. They didnt catch anything suspicious.

I suspected its a router issue when I read some threads where problem was solved on resetting the modem. Initially, in my case, DNS settings had changed and I was not able to browse any site using firefox.

I hard re-setted the modem (as recommended by some sites) and configured it again as suggested by the ISP. On doing that, I was again able to browse the other sites via firefox. However, trying to browse google continued to pop flash player pop up annoyingly.

i tried to update my machine... i used windows update, it failed on 7 of the 8 critical updates. i tried it again, it happened again.

i'm guessing i have some kind of virus. that goodoo shit i had keeps popping up, and i dont know where it comes from, so i dont know how to get rid of it.

when i hit netstat -a... all the ports that say "listening" and would normally have the foreign address be the name of the computer you're on... they all say 00.goodoo.ru.
suggestions?

Dear all experts,

I don't know since when fake adobe flash player update kept popping up when I open facebook link on my laptop (Windows OS, not Macbook). Not only that, my sister's laptop, my iPad, and my handphone (Samsung Note 3) also have the same pop-up. I guess this is because all these gadgets share the same wireless connection.

- I have tried various ways to fix the problem. I had bought Kaspersky to fix the problem but it didn't detect any problem.
- I have installed trial SpyHunter and StopZilla. They detect a lot of malwares and Trojans; but I need to purchase them if to remove all the threats. But I didn't purchase after seeing many bad reviews about them.
- I have also followed the steps recommended in this link by bleepingcomputer:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/526198/redirect-from-youtube-fb-to-fake-adobe-player-download/
But all the reports showed no problem. (I can attach all the reports, if needed)
- I have installed Spyware Doctor also have no problem.

Today, not only fake adobe flash player update; I have some problem typing in password to some websites on my Google Chrome; even for bleepingcomputer login. When I type in, the password becomes lengthened. But I managed to get in through my Mozilla; but the fake adobe flash player update begins to pop up here as well.

Is there any way I can remove this?

Thank you for your assistance!

I am using Overdive Media Console, attempting to run Windows Security Update on Windows Media Player. I am running Windows 7X64 and have WMP12.

From what I've seen on the web, I am certainly not the first person to run into problems here. Yet any of the "fixes" I have found do not work for me.

When I open Overdrive, it tells me I need the security update for WMP. It also says that my version of security is 2.9.0.1, and to click here to update. When I do this, nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. I have used the Microsoft web link for the update;it tells me it is updating, then that the update has been successful. Yet when I go back to the Media Console, same message about update needed.

I have tried this in the "normal" mode, have also tried it as "administrator", both in Overdrive and also in IE. I have also gone to C: ProgramData/Microsoft/DRM and changed the name of the DRM file.( I do note that my DRM file is empty, so I can't imagine what magic this would work anyway.) I have modified Windows Firewall to allow Overdrive and all instances of WMP. I have disabled my adblocker. I have run sfc/ scannow with no problems found. I have emptied my internet cache.

All of this to no avail. And it's driving me nuts!
All I want to do is download a WMA file from my Public Library.

I would appreciate any help you might offer.
TIA,
Georgia
