Deleted Partition - Recover Very Important Data

Question: Deleted Partition - Recover Very Important Data

I have a usb jump drive that I was using in fixing a computer. I copied very important data to the drive and then went on to reformat and install windows.

In the process of setting up the partitions of the hard drive I inadvertently deleted the partition on my jump drive.

I need to get this databack. The only program that seems to work is "Data Recovery Wizard" Unfortunatly it costs 70 dollars to save the files it recovers. I dont have this kind of money.

I need this data if it is at all possible to recover I would like to get it right away. ASAP

Preferred Solution: Deleted Partition - Recover Very Important Data

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I deleted a partion using the windows 7 installer disk. Unfortunately I was a bit click happy and deleted my secondary drive (one partition if you call it that, as it took up the whole disk). This is my data drive. I keep everything there including a lot of very large, multimedia files that I cannot live without. After picking my heart back up out of my shoe I started asking for help and downloading as many free tools as I can. None of them have worked satisfactorily. Find and Mount looked extremely promising, saying it would find a mark on the HDD where a partition had been made previously and then allowing me to mount a read only version, then copying all the files as though the partition had never been damaged, if I wanted. Funnily enough not only did it fail to find a visable or lost partition on this drive, it even failed to find working partitions on any other drive. Pfft.I've tried Paragon Partition Manager. It told me my drive had errors and to run chkdsk. I did this but it didn't help. The programme had the same errors when I tested it on another drive. Another pfft.I tried EASEUS Partition Manager. It found the files... but it copied all 253 gb of them as 'raw' files or something like that. This means they were completely out of order, no folders and renamed 'file001.jpg' etc. This is useless for me as a lot of my files are .RARs that need to be in a sequence to option or similar issues and also with over 25000 files I cannot be arsed o... Hello members,

Hope you all are doing great. This is my first post & I am feeling very tensed right now. I was using disk management tool on windows 10 to delete the volume E. However by mistake I deleted the volume D & unallocated space increased .

After that I created new volume called Y out of the unallocated space. At this point I realized that I lost my D drive which has all my valuable data worth 30 GB.

Is there any way to recover the files and partition ? I tried easeus and it recovered the partition but with empty contents.

Please help me as my all work is stored on D drive and I am in wierd situation & totally scared about how do I explain this situation to my boss.

Hope someone will help me out...

Please help !

Answer:How do I recover accidentally deleted partition & its data?

This is a critical situation. Try to generate image of your drive and then experiment recovery options on it . Image of the drive won’t harm your data.

I was installing Fedora 18 and Windows XP was already installed on my primary C drive. one of my partitions deleted accidentally during installation which contained backup data. The file system was NFTS. I used EASEUS data recovery. It took too much of time and all of the files were not recovered ( or I was unable to recognize them.) I had some important flv files but they didn't recover. Please tell me some free software you may have used which may efficiently recovered the data.

Just as the hard drive was about to be formatted I cancelled the operation before any progression. I've signed up to this site just for this issue which I've had for over a year. Here are the details:

Samsung laptop RF511
While I was cleaning out all the extra programs the laptop came with, I accidentally deleted something that was crucial for my disk reader. Whenever I pop in any data disk or movie, the computer struggles for a few minutes then gives up, as if nothing has been inserted. Oddly enough... I don't believe this always happens with music CDs. The computer also hasn't be able to let me burn anything on a blank disk. I often receive the "Please insert a blank disk" message, when one is already inserted.

This is getting really frustrating since I have a lot of data to backup and absolutely need help! I'm not a programmer and would need thorough explanation and a walk-through for this please.

I went to the Samsung website and looked at what might be missing (had no idea what I was doing...) I downloaded something called the BIOS updater, which did nothing unfortunately.

Please let me know if something sounds familiar and how I might be able to replace this bloody program I foolishly deleted!
Thanks a million.

Now this is just a guess that may save you a full re-install.
Install a CD/DVD burning program and it may correct the fault. Also Windows builtin burning is not the cleverest of tools.
Here are a few suggestions:

Hi I had 2 external hard drives connected and in disk manager I clicked delete on the wrong one? So now the drive wont show up, so I simply created a Simple volume and know it is a RAW drive? How do I recover the files there was over 100GB and some of them are really important such as records and work related stuff, it is currently a RAW partition and all the hard disk recovery softwares dont recognise it because it is a RAW drive? do i have to format it to recover the files? Please Help!?!

Answer:*Important* Accidently deleted volume in Disk Manager, how to recover?

Do not format the disk.
this would make your task more difficult or even impossible.

There are free partition recovery tools available on the net.

Question the deletion, was it your operating system or are you still able to boot into Windows. I have never been in this position but someone will post some software for you. Just don't muddle the disk any further.

If you are able to boot into Windows this link will give you an idea of what you are looking for. Hang on because I know some forum members have done this will be suggesting more software.

Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine experienced a BSOD crash on their Windows 7 computer. Unfortunately I was not in a position to see the exact message that was presented, however in my experience this doesn't always make a great deal of difference. After offering to fix my friend's computer I quickly discovered that one of the installed RAM sticks is faulty. I replaced both RAM sticks, and tested - all is fine on the RAM front. However the hard drive also appears to be corrupt. Windows 7 will not boot, and I have tried the following to rectify the situation:

1). Booted into Windows Recovery (using the W7 installation disk)

2). Windows didn't detect an Operating System install, so I made my way to the Command Prompt

3). Executed a number of commands that would normally fix the MBR and other boot related issues, notice after both the bootrec.exe /fixmbr & the bootrec.exe /fixboot commands reported "...completed successfully"! Then I issued the bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd command and Windows 7 promptly informed me that it couldn't find any Windows installations...

4). I then considered the possibility that the wrong partition may be set active on the disk, so I tried swapping the Active partitions around (and once this didn't achieve anything I switched back!)

Having had no success with the Recovery options I physically removed the hard disk and connected it to a docking bay -

I unplugged it then plugged it back in several times, to no avail. I used the Troubleshooter on Sandisk's website and nothing seemed to help. I can't detect the Flash drive anywhere on my computer. Hi.
I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this, if not let me know.

The Problem: I accidentally deleted some important data from a hard drive. I desperately want to rescue at least some of it. It is a folder containing a large number of digital photos.

This is what I've done:
1. accidentally deleted files
2. deleted the three partitions that were on the drive and made the drive into one partition
3. formatted the drive using Windows Disk Management tool in Administrative Tools (Windows XP). I used the "Quick Format" option rather than the "Full Format". The file system of the drive (also before formatting) is: NTFS
4. Currently there is new data on the drive. I'm using it as a backup drive now.

This all happened a few days ago. Only now I have realized the goof up.

Please, if there is any way you know of that I might best be able to salvage any of the lost data, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I have two HDs, 80 Gig primary and 120 gig secondary. I had win xp installed and running off the 80 gig and I backed up all my files onto the 120 gig. I then decided to format the 80 gig drive

I used a win 98 boot disk and formatted the 80 gig hd. then I started the win xp cd and it asked which partition I would like to choose. I chose the partitioned 120 gig drive not realizing what I had done. I confirmed the partition removal and then realized what I did. So I start flipping out and I restart my comp

I looked for my files and 120 gig drive but it was gone. I'm really going crazy. So I researched a little and I have two utilities on disk (mbrwork and testdisk) I started to run mbrwork and it has been searching for recoverable partitions for the past 2 hours. I don't know what to do and I really need the files on the 120 gig HD. I didn't install windows and I haven't done anything other than run the utility. Can someone please help me. I don't know what I'll do if I can't get my files back.

Thanks

Answer:recover deleted partition please HELP!

Rob, There are utilities that can rebuild a File Allocation Table. I have never used one but I understand that they work by installing the hosed drive as a slave to another bootable drive and running the software from the boot drive to fix the slave.

I can't tell you any names but a Google search should get you plenty of hits.

Good luck. There is hope.

>>I checked with one of my favorite software producers, Acronis, and found this. If it works like the other software I use from them, it'll be all you need.

Hi-

I accidentally started to install a new version of XP Home on an existing partition that had a good working XP home on it. I got to the point on the install where it highlighted the good partition and I hit "L" to erase it. At that point I stopped and tried a repair from the XP Home disk but no luck. Since it didn't overwrite it (probably just erased some pointers) is there any way to get back the good partition/OS that was on this disk?

Thanks

I have a 60 gig Western Digital HDD that I thought was failing. It was partitioned into two drives E: for my OS (Win Xp Pro) and C: for storing a few odds and ends. I removed the drive and added it as a slave to the new server i just built. (wanted to work with Win 2000 Adv. Server so i built one) The server had a large enough drive that i could just move all my files and then dump the 60 gig. When i assigned a drive letter only the files from C: appeared.
They were useless so i deleted them. but i couldnt see E:
Heres the dumb part, I hit the "delete partition" and now the drive says "Unallocated" I NEED to get those files from the E: drive back. (my honeymoon, wedding, babtisms, party photos are on that drive, and im a dead man if i cant figure this out) I should know better i know..... Is there ANY way to recover a deleted partition or am i in the dog house permanently?

Hello Guys!

I was at a friends last weekend and rebuilt his computer. Two new hard disks were to be used and everything to be reinstalled. When finished, the last step was to transfer his data from the old hard disk. I removed the backup hard disk from the mobile rack and in went the old one. When everything had been copied over, I asked "are you sure that nothing is hidden somewhere?". "I'm sure" was the answer and I deleted the single partition on the old hard disk. Luckily, before I had a chance to create a new partition, he said "well, not really, I forgot, is it too late?".

I thought it was too late, unless some recovery software was purchased but I spent the best part of an hour on the Internet searching for freeware. Finally, I found TestDisk which comes in two flavours, DOS and Windows. I used the Windows based version and managed to recover the deleted partition.

Just thought I'd let you know ...... ...... but I have no idea what would have happened if I had created a new partition and formated!

Ok so I apologize in advance if this story is a bit long, and horrifying (actually it's probably entertaining xD). I purchased the Lenovo y510p gaming laptop on back on July 14th 2014. I got the laptop, and it just didn't work for me. It didn't play the games I wanted it to, it had overheating issues, the keyboard had a really sharp edge making typing uncomfortable as well. After installing Sony Vegas and Avast, and just shifting some of my personal photos/music over, I made a backup of the laptop using the OneKey Recovery software. This backup was made to one of my 500GB external hard drives. So I then decided that I just didn't like the laptop, and it was time to return it. I called Newegg, and got my RMA all ready to go. Because I had lot of my personal files and programs, I decided the fastest way to delete everything would be to use the OneKey Recovery by Lenovo, and do a factory reset. At the time, I didn't think anything of this then simply putting the laptop back to exactly how I got it. I even booted it up after the factory reset, and it looked just like the first day I got it. Fast forward 2 weeks, and my RMA is denied from Newegg:   Your RMA (RMA Number: 60470880) return was received and sent to our Inspections Department for closer examination. 34-313-740 NB LENOVO IDEAPAD Y510P 59406636 RTSystem has been modified/altered original manufacturers operating system has been removed cannot access restore partition, this voids Newegg w... Answer:How to recover deleted "Recovery Partition"

If you only used One Key Recovery by Lenovo, it should not delete the partition. (I hope you did not format the whole system) Once you receive the laptop, you can check if this partition still exists in Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Disk Management. It should show some drives, other than the C: , D: and the SSD (if you have). Those drives are the recovery partitions. I can post a sample screenshot in the evening. Sadly, I do not know any way to recover that partition. As I have seen on this forum several people who lost that partition could not roll back their laptop to original settings without a recovery drive (which is different from a recovery backup).

I accidentally deleted a partition during a re-install and now I need to see if I can get it back. What isthe best way to go about this? It is a SATA III drive, 1TB Seagate if that matters.

Answer:Deleted partition on re-install - need to recover it!

If you didn't create a new partition and installed files or a new OS over the space that was once the old partition, then there is a good chance you can recover.
Use the Free TestDisk program. I have had the best luck with GetDataBack. You will need another partition or drive of the same size or larger to restore your files to.

I just made a terrible mistake!

I've recently set up a desktop PC after 2 years without one.

Anyway, I've been backing up all my old 3.5 Inch HD's to newer and larger drives.

I just got finished moving a heap of files to a new drive, and when done, accidentally deleted the partition of the new drive and was just about to format it thinking it was the old empty drive when I realised what I had done...

So my question is, is it possible to recover a deleted partition? I'm guessing all the information is still on the drive as I haven't actually formatted it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Answer:How can I recover an accidentally deleted HD partition?

Yes.

Undelete it.

Partition recovery function on any number of partition tools will do that.

Partition wizard free is popular.

Best done from a boot disc here: Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD.

5) I deleted the second partition created in step 4 and re partitioned it and formatted it using again the quick format option.
6) I realized about what I did and leave my disk to come here and look for some help before make a bigger mess, because I am afraid to execute any action without proper guidance.

But inbetween these steps I never wrote data into my disk.

I am really DESPERATE BECAUSE I have very valuable info. there.

If you can help me to recover my data I will be VERY VERY grateful to you.

Thanks for your time and answer guys.

Sincerely yours,

Sam.

Answer:DISKPART, how do I recover a deleted partition?, PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello Sam, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I hope you have a backup of that deleted partition somewhere. Since you cleaned the disk, created new partitions, and formatted, the chances of recovering that deleted partition are very slim.

You might see if an option in the tutorial below may be able to recover it for you, but it doesn't sound promising.

Hi everyone,
I was trying to format my laptop and install a new version of Windows 8. I deleted my old Windows 8 partition and tried to install the new version, but I got an error about some GPT stuff.
I've looked for what it is and I found out that I could have just reinstalled Windows 8 using the Update and Recovery of Windows.
The problem is that I don't have the Windows 8 partition anymore. Is there a way to recover it now? Or do I have to install a new version of Windows 8?
In case, could you tell me how to go around the GPT problem?

My Laptop is a Lenovo Z580 and I haven't done anything after deleting the Windows 8 partition.

Thank you!

Boot from the Windows installation media in UEFI Boot Mode, so you can use GPT (GUID Partition Table).

Quote from this post: UEFI Boot Mode (installing using the GPT partition style) and Legacy BIOS Boot Mode (installing using the MBR partition style). -> link

   Tip
Error message when you boot from the Windows installation media in Legacy BIOS Boot Mode:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. (see screenshot below)

That is because Windows can only be installed to MBR disk in Legacy BIOS Boot Mode, but you plan to install Windows on a GPT disk.

- Boot from the Windows installation media in UEFI Boot Mode, so you can use GPT (GUID Partition Table).
- But if you want to use MBR (Master Boot Record) partition table, then delete all partitions on the disk.

I have two hard disk in my computer, Disk0 (500gb) and Disk1 (150gb). Problem is with disk1. 1st it was being used for Windows 7 (EFI, one main primary partition and Windows hidden system partitions) then I formatted it as FAT32 and used for backup and data.

During Windows 8.1 installation, when I was erasing partition on Disk0, accidentally / mistakenly deleted all small partitions on Disk1, didn't touch the bigger main partition of 149gb where the data is stored, now the situation is that in Windows Storage Management it's showing that partition as healthy partition but not as FAT32 but as 'Other' and I can not assign drive latter to it as all options are grayed out.

Tried some data recovery tools, can recover data using some of them but it's messed up, no folder hierarchy, no proper file names, very difficult to sort out, would you please suggest any better option, any way to recover partition to working state, or any data recovery with proper folders hierarchy?

Answer:Recover deleted partition table

If a partition is deleted but not formatted then it can be recovered using Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.

Try also using PW to assign a drive letter to the data partition. How to Change Letter with partition manager - Partition Wizard Video Help.

If that fails try using Diskpart to assign a drive letter from booted Win7 installer System Recovery Options Command Line: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...=ws.10%29.aspx

A failed partition which cannot be assigned a letter using steps above can sometimes have its table restored using DiskGenius trial.

Once you can assign a letter I'd back up your data which should have already been backed up if it has any value to it, then run Disk Check or Partition Wizard Check File System

While trying to reinstall Windows 8 on a home PC we pulled the wrong hard drive and did a clean install on a drive that was being used to store a ton of files (videos, images, documents, etc) rather then a smaller drive that should have had the OS installed on it.

The original partition (on the storage drive) was deleted and then had 8 clean installed on it.

Is there any way to recover that deleted partition to get the files back?

Right now we're running a SuperScan with [email protected] Partition Recovery on the drive in question and it looks like it's going to take about 5 hours to complete. What's worrying us at the moment is the software is showing the deleted partition, and has folders from it in it, but there are no files. For example no videos or images yet.

I'm wondering if that just means the scan needs to complete or what. I don't know if anyone here has used [email protected] or has a better recommendation for partition recovery (if it's possible at this point) but the partition we're hoping to recover is listed as "Good".

Thanks in advance for any and all advice, if you need any more information, just let me know.

Undelete has a free 30 day trial. I would recommend not using your hard drive for anything at all. If at all possible disconnect it and use another computer to recover the files.

Any time something gets written to your hard drive you risk overwriting the "deleted" data.

Hello All, I am in dire need of help. I was testing converting my os drive to a dynamic disk through disk managment and shrunk it 7 gigs. I then added that 7 gigs to my e drive (disk 1) which was already dynamic. This drive has all my family photos, expense reports, my wedding vidoe, ect. I then right clicked on the 7 gigs and selected delete partition thinking it would only do that 7 gigs and it removed the partition from my disk 1 also. This data is now not reachable and show as unallocated. Please let me know who I can get the databack. In addition to spanning disk 1 with the 7 gigs from disk 0, disk 1 was already spand with disk 2 as each is only 75 gigs. Please help me out as all of my much needed documents are on disk 1 and 2. I konw I do not want to add them as a new volume as they will be formated. any advice is greatly appreciated

Hi Guys

I'm running XP and Lubuntu on an old pc. I recently erased my Local Disk D, which had most of my personal data on it. Local Disk C is still there and contains the XP OS.

I'm not so bothered about losing the data that was in D (the really important stuff was backed up) but Disk D took up nearly 40GB of space which I am now unable to access or utilise.

The full story is long so rather than recite it here if anyone is able to try to help it would be better if I just supply information as and when you require it.

I should say that I'm very much an IT beginner; until this all started I hadn't even heard of partitions, and sadly I'm still struggling with them.

Needless to say, very grateful for any help.

Hi,
While re-installing Windows 10 on my Samsung ativ book 9 (15" core i7), I had two partitions (256 gb ssd) half capacity each one, one holds the os, and the other my data.
when selecting the partition where to install windows 10, it tolds me that I cannot so i googled it, i figured out that i have to clean the partition and then convert it to gpt using diskpart.
so i did but instead of cleaning the system partition it deleted all the disk data in a second.
I have now one unallocated partition (256 gb), i created 3 partition afterwars, 500mb efi, primary for os, and third for my data. windows 10 installated successfully, but my data all gone.
I tried every single data recovery app, but all of them just recover some ****ty folders that doesn't have any value like desktop.ini. (by the way, i tried in the days after this data earthquake not to have new data to avoid overwriting the old precious data)
any help to undo clean command or anything would be amazingly appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer:Very Important data lost while installing windows 10 using diskpart clean partition, how can I get it back?

Unfortunately its your fault since you did not understand diskpart completely before using it. When using diskpart you might have selected the entire disk for the format rather than just the partition. There is no way your data can now be recovered.

Hi and welcome to the forum! If you created Rescue and Recovery discs prior to deleting your service partition, then you can recreate the partition by putting your system to factory settings, but in case you didn't then you would to buy these discs from lenovo for a fee.Going back to factory state deletes all data on your HDD, so save important stuff before doing so.Hope this helps.

Hello,
Could you please help me to solve the problem i faced recently. Let me explain you what happened in detail.
Initially I had 2TB Seagate Expansion Desk HDD, partitioned into 500GB, 13GB, 293GB, all three Bitlocker encrypted and 1 more 500GB unencrypted partition, the rest of the space was unallocated. Few days ago, by mistake, while I was creating Windows Recovery
Disk chose the wrong drive letter and ended up whole partitions above deleted. Here?s what I have in HDD now: 32GB Windows 8 Recovery partition and 1831GB unallocated space. After that I haven?t made any changes to the drive. I was able to restore the data
from the last unencrypted part by using Getdataback SW but with no luck in my Bitlocker encrypted partitions. I would appreciate any advice to restore the bitlockerencrypted partitions as I have the password and recovery keys to decrypt and retrieve my data
back.

Softwares I have: Recuva. Handy Recovery. R-Studio. Getdataback. M3 Bitlocker Recovery. Starus Partition Recovery. TestDisk

I can provide the snapshots of the results from recovery softwares should you need them. Thank you very much!

Ok so I had some files on this hard drive now which didnt have an os and was part of another os until that crashed. So I booted to linux live and it showed the files i had on here so I installed linux thinking I could still be able to access them. When it said there was data and asked if i wanted to mount it i said no because i still needed those files so it created another primary partition with no filesystem so i uninstalled linux and installed windows 7 and in the disk management it shows up as a basic primary partition for 4.96 gb which is about how much data is on there but there is no filesystem and the only thing i can do with it is delete it. I have tried testdisk and i cannot seem to access the partition. i tried using linux live cd to recover them and it dosnt work on that either. someone please help me recover these. i have a paper i need for school to graduate on there.

Answer:recover partition with data on it

You installed Linux to a disk that had data that you wanted to recover ? What OS was on the disk that was part of the other OS ? maybe you could break down the steps a little more and add missing info like the OS versions partitions etc. You can also try r-studio and "get back data" to scan the drive for the missing data however I fear you overwrote the space when you installed Linux on the drive if I have followed your information correctly.

Hi,

I have an HP's laptop Nx7010. Recently I defragmented the D Drive (Operating System's Drive). After successful completion I began using it normally. At a certain point it started loading something and kept the reading/writing of the harddisk so much that the system went really slow and I couldn't do anything. After a while I shutted the laptop abnormally (by pressing the power buttton and holding it till it's off) and started it again. When the system booted the first time it just stuck. I restarted again and it booted but as soon as windows began the loading started again and it went for 5-6 hours. Then I hibernated the laptop and the next day when i started my laptop the message appears that the C Drive is not formatted. Do u want to format it????. Windows shows it as an unformatted partition. There is a lot of data there in C Drive. I really don't want to lose it. What do I do to recover it?

I was running win 7 with 4 partitions , thought to upgrade to win 10. While installing it didn't allowed me to install. I thought i can run diskpart clean on one partition, selected one volume and ran clean command, but it still cleaned all the partitions. Long story short, I cannot boot my OS until I install OS on freshly created single partition. I was told to use partition recovery apps like partition and mount software, Do I have to install OS on it anyways and once OS is installed, instal the partition and mount software for the recovery?

Answer:how can i recover my partition and data

Do not install any OS now.Do not install any OS now. Do not install any OS now.

(Diskpart clean only erases the first 2048 sectors of the drive. The most important one is sector 0 which holds the MBR and the partition table.

If the MBR and partition table are restored you should be able to get back the drive.

I hurry up to post this so that you don't do any such "mischief" like installing the OS)

I shall comeback again.

Do not do any mischief till I tell you what you should do.

EDIT: There is a power shut down now. So I am shutting off my PC. Only when power returns I shall come back.

(64bit) installed on my htpc. i had win 7 home premium on there before. now during this whole thing. on about the 7th or 8th clean install i became frustrated and careless. i accidentally formated one of my data partitions. (just the quick format. only lasted about 1 second.) i need to find a way to repair the pointers, and anything else, to rebuild the file structure. i have not done anything else to the drive. the data is still there. ( i was able to scan and recover files with another program). however the partition is big (350gb) too big for me to just recover the files somewhere else. so i need a way to re build it.

any software or suggestions are extremely helpful. i am very good with computers. cmd prompt, registry, whatever i need to do i am willing.

thanks guys.

Answer:recover data from partition

You could try chkdsk - it may or may not repair the MFT.

Quote:" Run a full CHKDSK. This option repairs all file system data, restoring all user data that can be recovered by means of an automated process. The drawback to this option is that a full CHKDSK can require several hours of downtime for a mission critical server at an inopportune time".

Hi everyone,

A friend of mine has a 2TB Western Digital Elements hard drive with 100GB free on it. He purchased a Mac so cannot write to the NTFS formatted 2TB Elements. I offered to copy his data out, repartitioned it as exFat so that both Mac and Windows can read and write to it.

Windows report that the drive has 100GB left but when I copied the files, it copied only 812GB. I made the bad assumption that the Windows backup took up the rest of the space and since my friend did not need it, I will just not worry about it.

After repartitioning the drive and formatting it as exFat, I copied the important directories back. I noticed that many of the directories that I copied have very little or no data in them. A file which I googled to be Windows backup binary file, which I did not copy back to the 2TB is itself 760GB. This means I copied only 50GB of data. Yikes!

I unplugged the drive so that no more data will be written to it in hope that I can recover at least some of the data. My friend is having an anxiety attack at the moment... because he does a lot of music writings; his scores and voices are what he wanted back.

Is there a way to recover files from a repartitioned drive that has been repartitioned and formatted twice?

* Original is NTFS with 1.8TB of data
* Reformatted via Mac OS to their Extended (journaled) format by accident. [that created three partitions]
* Repartioned via Windows to one big drive and formatted it as exFat.
* Copied 52GB of data back... Read more

Answer:Recover data from multiple re-partition?

You could try using Recuva -- as far as I know, it's still free.

The best data recovery apps I've used come from Runtime Software. You can download, install them and run them for free to do a search of the drive. You can then look at the results to see what they found. But to actually save the files, you have to purchase them -- and last time I checked, it was around $70 for RecoverMyFiles.

Oh, and you would have to connect the drive you want to recover to a working PC -- as you obviously can't install apps on the drive itself.

Answer:How can i recover lost partition and data in it

NO! Don't do anything that involves the hard drive at this point. You will need to use another computer to create a disk recovery boot disk from a recovery program and use that to boot the computer with the affected hard drive and then let the program do its thing.

This is the program I have used in the past, and I think Brink recommends it too:
[email protected] Partition Recovery restores deleted damaged volumes &amp disks. Freeware Data Recovery Software Toolkit

You can try this one for free, the company is a pretty good company, but I haven't used this software:
Free Partition Recovery Software - EaseUS Partition Recovery.

Greetings everyone,

I'm having quite a bit of bad luck at backing up data from a WD My Book Essential. I had a feeling something was faulty, so I started backing up my data. The hard disk in it was 1TB, and lets say about 450 GB of it was used.

I started copying everything, and about 50% went smoothly. Normal speed, no hickups. Then the drive started randomly dying and rebooting. It would copy for a number of minutes, then stopped as if the drive had been unplugged, and then poped up again after a few seconds. After a while, I just couldn't access it anymore. I had a feeling something might be wrong with the case.

So I disassembled it, and took the hard drive out. I plugged it into my computer, and it's recognized, but the capacity of it is showing up as unallocated in Computer Management.

Disk 0 is my main hard disk, split into two partitions, and Disk 1 is the drive in questions.

Right now I'm running TestDisk and it will take till morning to analyse all 121600 cylinders. I'm wondering what my next step(s) should be if the scan comes up empty? Should I try to use any other software to recover the partition, or should I use something to try to recover the files?

Thank you in advance for any tips and ideas.

Answer:Backing up data, need to recover partition

The typical advice is to first try to recover the partition and if that fails to then try to recover individual files.

You may as well download Western Digital utilities to see if it fails. Maybe you have a warranty claim? I think there is a short test and a longer one.

I'm no expert on recovery and can't give you specific advice.

I installed a new HDD today and when I went into the Windows setup to partition it, I accidentally deleted a partition on one of my other drives. This drive had ALL my pictures, music, movies and videos. EVERYTHING I had was on that disk.

Since I only deleted the partition, I would assume the information is still there. Is there anyway to recover this, or am I screwed?

TIA,

Answer:Is there anyway to recover data after deleting a partition?

You're in luck. As long as you haven't done anything else to the disk, you should be able to recover everything. Deleting the partition just deletes the partition table info, the original data is still there. Google some hard disk recovery tools. I used this once to recover from a similar problem.

Have a good day,
I have 1 physical drive 80Gb, divided into 2 partitions: C and D
C is System (WinXP)
D is Data
Yesterday, i got a virus. I rebooted, and used Acronis True Image to restore backup from Secure Zone (this backup was for Partition C). Secure Zone was ok, but Partition C and D were unallocated. I recovered partition C by using a backup in Secure Zone. After recovering, partition D was still unallocated.
I didn't do anything since then.
When i run Partition Magic 8, i saw this unallocated partition
Will my data in partition D be lost when i resize Partition C to 80Gb
Please help me to recover my data in partition D,
it was very important to me !!!

I'm wating for your advices

Thanks and Best Regards

I mistakenly formatted the partition and lost my important data, what should I do? help please.

Answer:how to recover my data after formatted partition

There has been some talk about this issue. At one time there was a way to recover from that problem. But is no longer in use on most home computer systems. You can Google the topic and find answers. But not the right answers, or answers you want. I could be wrong, but I don't see how you could recover any amount of data from a hard drive that has been just formatted over data. Sorry.

Ok, I had this problem. Please help me. My brother created in his 20Gb hard disk a 5Gb Linux partition with Partition Magic. He didn?t use it at all.Trying to erase that partition to get back to the 20Gb total HD capacity, I downloaded Aefdisk 2.0 from downloads.com and executed this lines:aefdisk /delall (to erase the linux partition)and thenaefdisk 1 /pri:0:0c (which effectively created a primart Windows partition with all the space of the HD)if I excecute the /show command, I can see this line in the table:1   0c   Fat32 LBA   19461Mb   **The problem now is that the computer won?t boot from this HD. If i boot from the floppy, then I type c:[enter], I can see the c: prompt, but if i try to see the directory tree (dir [enter]), i receive an error message. I even installed this HD as a slave in another computer to try to recover the files, and still couldn?t gain access to it.I have very important files in that HD and need to recover them. Please help me !

Answer:Need to recover data from corrupt partition

Sounds like you blew away all the partitions. Do you have the install cd? You should probably reload it and lick your wounds and learn for next time. Get Image for dos and image your entire system partition on to cd's for disaster recovery, as well as doing regular backups of important files for safety.

Answer:Recover HDD partition without loss of data

It's most important that you backup the partitions you have available before attempting any recovery. Hope you have not been using the affected system which might have caused over-writing of your data. I suggest Easeus Partition Recovery software - Google for Easus Partition Recovery Software - although I have never had occasion to use it.Please note that I have no affiliation with Easus except as a very satisfied user of Easeus products. Please come back & tell us if your problem is resolved.

I have a simpletech external HDD on a HP deskPro CPU running Windows XP. I also have Partition Magic 8.0 installed.Incident: I hooked up the external drive to my Windows 7 machine to create a backup drive. The partition ended up wiping the other partitions on the HDD. I immediately pulled the plug on the external drive. I hooked the drive up to my XP system and lost the other partitions and have PqRP as a partition now. How do I reverse the process and recover my old partition which, has photos dating back to when I first purchased the external drive? message edited by Dale2

Answer:How to recover data from PqRP partition

No, it's not that the drive and windows 7 were on different types of partitions. Apparently powerquest thought you wanted to resize the partition and the pqrp it created was an intermediate step.Check post # 5 here:http://club.myce.com/f3/partition-m...for explanation of using PTEDIT to possibly recover it. Powerquest is part of symentac now so you can download it from symantec's FTP site:ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/tools/pq/utilities/There's a ptedit and ptedit32. Ptedit is the dos version and ptedit32 is for use in windows NT

Hello Everybody,

This is my 1st post here. i made a big mistake causes data lost from my hard disk. i had two HDDs in my pc. My windows 7 becomes corrupted which was installed in HD1 and HD2 was kept for backup purpose. Before doing reformat in HD1, i cut and paste all of my required files (mostly images) from HD1 to HD2. Then i installed Windows 7 and while installing windows i deleted the existing partition, created the new one and formatted also. Unfortunately, i made the whole formatting part on HD2. Now i lost all files from from HD2 as well as from HD1 (due to cut and paste).
Will anybody tell me how do i get data from either HD1 or, HD2?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Recover data from overwritten partition by windows 7

Hi and Welcome to the forum

Just so I have this in my head, did you combine the two partitions HD1 and HD1 into HD1 for the new install of Windows 7?

If so then it maybe hard to recover anything, as the new format > install will likely have rendered the data unrecoverable, but if you still have the two partitions HD1 and HD2 and where HD2 has the data but deleted you could try this app Recuva (will need to save any data found to a different partition or removable device, do not save to same partition that the data is being recovered from)

I have an H430 that Windows 8 is not starting and will not do the auto repair successfully. I normally remove the drive and put it in another computer to make a copy and then get the data I need before repairing problems. On this one I can't access the hard drive with a drive letter in Windows XP but it does show as a GPT partition in Disk Management. I also tried an external USB drive case and plugged it into a Windows 8 computer but while the drive mounts it thinks the drive needs to be formatted. I don't think there are problems with the drive's structure and formatting but I can't say for sure. It looks like this is another partition type superceding NTFS. Thanks for any thoughts on how to get this data recovered.

Answer:Recover Data from Windows 8 GPT partition in H430

hi rickykrisle,

Welcome to the Forums.

According to this Windows and GPT FAQ, you should be able to read the GPT HDD on a preloaded Win8 PC (unless the UEFI boot partition is corrupted)

Can you try to:
1. create a bootable Win7 ISO CD or USB (you can get an ISO on this website) and boot from it
2. open a command prompt by pressing Shift+F10
3. on the command prompt, type dir and see if you can locate the drive where you stored your important files
4. when you have located your files, insert a flashdrive with enough free space then type "xcopy <your files here> <your flash drive destination>" (i.e. xcopy d:\files\*.* /e e:\   - where e:\ is your flashdrive. This will copy all file to your flashdrive).
4. As an alternative, you can type "notepad" without the quotes on the command prompt. On the notepad, click File > Open then try to navigate to your important files. You can do a "right click > copy' then "right click > paste" to copy your files to the flashdrive.

Hope this helps

I just deleted my external HDD partition from my Disk Management and it had like 30gigs of files on it, is there anyway to recover the files or undo that?

Answer:Just deleted a partition with all my data on it...

If your daring enough to recreate the partition (without formating obviously), Avira makes a simple 'get back' tool that is free to download. It's simplistic nature though means you get a list of 10's of thousands of files that you sort by type, integrity etc ... then you can choose to restore them to the drive.

You need a partition created to use this tool though, there are others out there that you don't need the partition created but I don't know of any.

Just don't write any files to the disk!

Hello
I'm new here and I have a windows vista 32 bit service pack 2 operating system.

Just recently I have made horrible mistake when cleaning my computer , that I can't seem to reverse but maybe you could help me *fingers crossed*

In C:\Users\HOME ADMINISTRATOR\AppData I deleted alot of Roaming. Local Low,and Local Files and have emptied it from my recycle bin.

Because I have user account control on, I can't pass that prompt screen when I click allow, I just wait and wait and nothibng happens. I come out of it by prompting windows task manger using ctrl + alt+ delete. This makes it even more difficult since I cannot turn user account control off ,prompt run, or system restore without that prompt.

What are my options? what do you suggest I do? Is there another way to restore my computer sytem wihout losing all my current document files?

Please help

Answer:Deleted App Data,User Account Control Prevents System Restore,Please Help to Recover

When you cleaned the computer did you use a registry cleaner also?any type of cleaner has to be used carefully because they can cause a lot of damage to where the operating system has to be reinstalled again because programs and drivers etc get corrupted and wont work right.
