Preferred Solution: IS it possible to intergrate XP to Media Center?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: IS it possible to intergrate XP to Media Center?

Your PC must be Media Center ready as it has very specific hardware requirements.

I needed to reinstall 8.1 Pro over my OS to fix a damaged Windows file system. The performed procedure fixed my system but removed my Media Center, which was payed for years ago when i upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro w/ Media Center from Win 8.0 Pro w/ Media Center.
I had to purchase it then, even though i already had it prior to the upgrade, and so i do not feel i should have to pay for it once again, especially since i saved the Product Key the second time!

I know its media center as if you go to properties of my computer it says media center, and it is from my buddy who has an MSDN sub, I watched him DL it for me from the MSDN site.
Its legit and updates and everything, its not a pirated copy or anything shady. I want to use media center for TV/video/music, but its just NOT THERE I have re-installed and everything.

SO... Any thoughts?

Is it because the PC doesnt have a TV card?
Is it the 512megs ram? (I will be upgrading, in a month or so)
Here are the specs on the machine just in case that matters (I dont think it does, does it?)

Sempron 3100+ (sock 754)
ECS mobo (crap but only 754 pci x mobo at the time)
2 sticks of 256 megs pc3200
PCI-X X800XL
Dell OEM sbi live (the SB0200 POS, Ill be replacing that as well)
Maxtor 250 IDE
Dell OEM DVD drive (not burner)
Netgear PCI 802.11G card (meh but works)

Answer:Installed Media center 05. Media center isnt showing up in programs list...

I've never seen it do that, but it has nothing to do with the hardware configuration. On a side note, this thread will probably be locked, because you are in fact using pirated software. You don't own a TechNet subscription, so you aren't authorized to use it. Your friend is also an idiot for giving out his TechNet software, as he could risk haven't his subscription cancelled.

Hello everyone. So I just got the Xbox 360 COD special edition. I'm checking out all my features on the Xbox. There's an option to somehow connect your computer to your Xbox. The requirement is to go through the Media Center. Well, first time starting up the Media Center on my computer, and I'm not able to get the Media Center to open. I receive an error right on startup of the program. It ends up generating a crash report, and closes. I've take 2 screenshots of the error. The first screenshot is of the first error that comes up upon opening the Media Center. The second screenshot is of another error I get when I choose to cancel instead of clicking ok on the first error. I thought getting the most information to you guys would be the best.

I run Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2005 Service Pack 3.

Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks a lot

Hi,

Still trying to figure out what it is that keeps waking up my computer from sleep.

I looked in the event logs and found this:
The system has returned from a low power state.
Sleep Time: ‎2015‎-‎08‎-‎30T03:12:34.409741300Z
Wake Time: ‎2015‎-‎08‎-‎30T03:30:51.010471500Z
Wake Source: Timer - Windows will execute 'NT TASK\Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\mcupdate_scheduled' scheduled task that requested waking the computer.

What I don't understand is why is mcupdate waking the computer if Media Center was removed from Windows 10.

But more importantly how do I stop this from happening?

Thanks

Answer:Why is media center waking my computer if media center was removed?

Check your task scheduler to ensure there is no task under media center. If there is, delete it.

Compared with some I've read, my issue may seem trivial, but, whenever I use Windows Media Center to play music, and click to activate the Visualizations, a gray box attaches itself to the bottom of the screen, with the album title inside.

There is no visualization playing. I can see the albums when looking at the library, and everything else seems to work ok, but this is annoying.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:media center visualizations don't play in Media Center

Hi GraphicsGuy, An annoying issue is still an annoying issue. Have you tried turning the visualizations on in:Tasks>Settings>Music>Visualizations ?

I recently updated my OS. All my documents like music, pictures and files are there correctly. Some of my old game and programs like Steam booting correctly because they are in the Windows.old file because of the new OS. I was wondering if there is anyway I can just integrate these files so it would act like my computer previously, but just with the updated OS. Would a simple copy and paste of the Program Files/Program Files (x86) ect over the current ones work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Can I intergrate Windows.old files?

Windows.old file contains everything from a previous Windows install. You can not copy and paste old programs. They have to be installed to get the required entries into the registry in order to work. You can copy personal files that you missed backing up before the new install.

Hello, I bought a new HP TouchSmart IQ506 today and have been trying to get windows media player to play ogg files. I tried the xiph.org ogg for both 32 and 64 bit and neither of them worked. I also tried the latest ffdshow tryouts and the normal ffdshow package. WIndows media player will not import them into the library and it won't play them if I try to open them individually. Also, the TouchSmart software won't recognize them either and has no manual way to add music files as far as I know. You can either choose the "TouchSmart library" option or the "iTunes library" option. I installed all of those filters by being under an admin account, right clicking on the installer and choosing the "run as adminastrator" option. What is going on, has Microsoft blocked use of the codecs with the latest updates or something or is this all an issue with 64 bit? Thank you.

Answer:Media playback in Vista 64 bit media center editon; I am using an HP TouchSmart IQ506

Are you sure that ffdshow contains a decoder for Vorbis .ogg files. WMP by default only contains codecs for windows media files.

I would try K-lite codecs or Vobis codecs from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/Vorbis_Ogg_ACM_download.htm

You might also try vlc media player from here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/. It has bult-in codecs for just about everything unlike WMP.

OKAY. I have a Surface Pro with 128 GB storage so I want to conserve space by using my 64 GB micro SDXC card which is seen as a removeable drive. How would I get Media Center to see that as part of my Media Library?

You can add Video folders on the micro SDXC to your Video's Library in Windows 8.

Then when you set up Media Center browse to the Library where the video files reside and you will then be able to play all of the video files which reside in your Video's Library from Media Center.

Shawn's tutorial on adding folders or drives to the Library's should be helpful.

I've been trying to track down why this happens for a awhile now...

I have my "main" Vista x64 PC that has all my media. I then have a Vista x32 PC that's hooked up to my TV and I use Vista Media Center on that one to access all my shared media on from the x64 PC. This is all done over my wireless "G" network. The router and x32 Vista MCE are only about 20ft away from each other and signal strength is maxed out all the time.

When I'm watching videos, VistaMCE with pause randomly.... the picture will freeze and the sound will stop. This lasts from one second to 15 seconds or more... when it kicks back in... the sound will pick up where it left off, but the video will "fast forward" until it reaches the point it should have been at had it not paused... the video then goes slow-motion until the audio catches up again. This is very annoying.

VistaMCE menus also do this.... the menus will pause and if I keep pressing buttons when the menus start working again all the button presses will be used in fast forward.

I can fix this by reformatting my VistaMCE x32 PC and reinstalling... but the fix only lasts for about a week before it starts up again. I've tried reformatting my main X64 PC before and this doesn't fix the problem at all... and I've also tried changing wireless channels and done other network troubleshooting and everything points to the VistaMCE PC having the issues.

It almost seems like a cache issue, as if the PC caches a small am... Read more

Answer:Vista Media Center, Media pauses randomly...

it sounds like the usual graphics driver bug - I get random slow downs where the frame rate drops and the sound stutters so it sounds like a similar problem. I would try updating your drivers.

I have Vista Home Premium and am trying to run "TVersity Media Server" to share videos to my XBOX 360. From the help screens for the application, I noticed that Windows Media Sharing must be disabled, or the 360 will not see TVersity server at all. I have Windows Media Center (included with Vista Premium). I believe I have found the option to disable sharing in "Network and Sharing Center". However, the "CHANGE" button doesn't do anything! I have a couple of problems that I've been beating my head against the past week or so and while at least on the Media Center problem it seems I've gained a tiny bit of headway, I haven't found anything on the embedded video problem. I'm very proficient with computers and fixing issues, I do so for a living and have for years, so I'm no dummy but these 2 issues are being incredibly difficult, and I'm sure with it being a new OS isn't helping matters much either. Lets start with my setup:

Core2Duo e6600
4GB RAM
eVGA 8800GTS 320MB
Vista Ultimate 64 bit
All the latest and greatest patches and drivers

Problem #1 - Media Center - Used to be when I fired up Media Center, and went to Library Setup, it would crash the Media Center program saying "Media Center has quit working and will close now" or something similar and that was it. I was also having an issue with Windows Media Player 11 also crashing but right upon firing it up, and also H264 video files in Media Player Classic running too fast. However, after messing around with different ways and versions of K-Lite Codec Pack and FFDShow I finally got it to where all my videos now work great in Media Player Classic, and Windows Media Player 11 now doesn't crash, and Media Center no longer dies with an error, but now instead when I go to Add Library or try to play a sample video, it comes up with some error about my video software not being installed correctly and to try reinstalling Media Center if possibl... Help. I have a HP media center computer. I have never used Media player and rarely use the Media Center software. Until yesterday when I tried to set up media player for my preshcooler to watch some video that I have on my HDD. Media Center view is very confusing for a kid so I thought I would use the Media Player and set up a library. Well nothing works. The darn thing will play a dvd in the dvd drive, but it won't play any video thats on the hdd including downloaded itunes video. Life in my house is becoming more unpleasent by the moment, because mommy can't fix Jake Long the American Dragon. AHHHH, I want to be able to configure Media Center or Media Player to show info on a video, ie rating, genre, thumbnail of cover, that type of thing. I would like to set it up to be as easy as possible to use, point and clink. So my little girl can get to her stuff visually. I spent hours on the phone with HP and they said I needed a file converter. Well I tried that and I'm only making a mess of things. There has got to be a way. I have to be doing something simple wrong. I did the search and it seemed to find the files but didn't add any of them. This is really driving me nuts. I can't believe that I would have to convert itunes files to play in the media center. Not to mention every other file type I have. Which I have no idea. It seems most are *.VOB but this thing won't add any of my video files, not home recorded dvd stuff, not itunes, not backup dvds. Please tell me what I'm do... Read more

I am a mature adult, have been messing with computers for about 10 years and I find Windows Media Player to be a complex pile of dookie. So it's no surprise that the preschooler is perplexed.

The freeware alternative I use Media Player Classic, which is much simpler and does a fine job of doing both video and audio.

Also, download & install the Klite Video Codec Pack, which will allow you to run DivX, Xvid and any other video format you might want.

First question here is - is XP Media Center any use whatsoever? What was the programming brief? 'We want you to create an amazing new package that can only do all the things standard freeware media programs can do anyway, only with seriously, seriously ugly graphics...' ??

And the real question - is there any way to get windows media player embedded into Firefox, if the operating system is XP mc? The usual trick of copying over the relevant .dll to the firefox plugins folder doesn't work for some reason...

Answer:New CPU and Media Center and Media Player not working

Did you upgrade directly from a dual or single core?

Here's what it sounds like to me... I have experienced the same issue upgrading my dual core 5000+ to a Phenom 9650 recently. The main thing that is happening is that since you have upgraded from a dual core to a quad core, you've effectively added another processor to the system. Windows Media Center and Media Player both use certain codecs to de-code the video stream. By DEFAULT the codecs are designed to run basically very efficiently with 50% of the activity on each core, assuming you had a dual-core CPU. Now, swapping this to a Quad-Core confuses the application because it is still trying to allocate 50% of the activity to each core of the processor, but it cannot do so as there are now FOUR cores instead of TWO. So generally, I recommend you reinstall all of your codecs ( This solved the problem for me ) and download the latest Windows Updates. Now, since you also have more power going to your new Quad-Core, you may also want to do a capacitor reset. ( Unplug power-cable and press/hold power button down for 1 minute and 30 seconds ) and then reboot the system and let it power back up as normal. If this doesn't resolve your issue, unfortunatley the only thing left to do is to backup your data and do a Full Format/Reinstallation of Windows

-Good luck..

Hey all,

I'm new to vista and i'm just wondering...just media center require media player to work? If not is it possible to remove wmp11? On that note, is it also possible to remove IE7? As I am a devoted Firefox user

Answer:Does Media Center need Media Player to work?

You do not need media player to use media centre as they are two slightly different applications, you do not have to use either and can in fact download any other player or only use media centre. You can remove wmp11 but once again you can just disable it.

You do not have to remove IE7, set Firefox as your default browser and forget about it.

Well, I accidentally hit enter right when the message popped up, so now it always runs my movies with the Windows Media Center. How do I cancel that, or at least change it? I really like my Media Center program that I use in my entertainment center in the family room. I want to enable another computer in my network running XP to be able to record shows. I could always buy a MCE upgrade, but I don't know if it is worth the price. I have been researching other multi-media managers and came across Media Portal. It seems to have similar capabilities. It is also an open source software and it is free. Does anyone have opinions on this program. I have downloaded the program just to test-drive it a bit. I would still need to install a tv tuner card to accomplish what I want regardless of the software I choose. One interesting point with Media Portal is that they are close to releasing an update that would allow you to handle two tv signals with a single tuner. Very interesting I think.

I use WindowsXP Home Edition, but I just got an Xbox 360 and I found out if you get Media Center you can stream music, videos, images etc from your pc over to your xbox 360. But ive tryed for ages to get it working and its not. But im wondering can you just get a program to use on Windows XP, or would I need to install Windows Media Center edition?

And if so, then can I just get that and upgrade my OS and still keep all my files and settings without having to reformat??

Cheers

Answer:Using Media Center On XP?

You can't buy MCE to the best of my recalection.... It only comes pre-installed on MCE machines so you'd more than likely have to buy an MCE system.

Hi,

I have Windows Vista media center on my desktop that receives tv from satelite no problem at all.

My laptop Windows Vista also has media center.

The laptop is connected to my network.

How do I use the Laptop media center to connect to the Desktop Media Center so I can watch TV from it??

Answer:Media center to media center?

to BC, aussieoak.Okay, I understand what you're trying to do.You have access to your satellite's signal on your desktop and you can watch TV on it. I assume you have a TV tuner card of some kind installed. You have a laptop that is connected to the same network, and you want to be able to use the same satellite signal and watch TV, as well.Well, there are only two ways that can happen, that I know of.The first being that you install a TV tuner card on your laptop and hook up the satellite cable to it. This would obviously tether you to the length of the cable, but it does work.Your second option would be to do a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) from the laptop into the desktop, giving you control over the desktop whilst sitting at the laptop. Remote Desktop Connection : frequently asked questionsYou would be able to see what's on the desktop's screen (i.e. the TV show(s) playing in Windows Media Center, or whatever program you want to run). This, however, is a most inelegant option due to the fact that RDC has poor performance as far as graphics and such go.This may or may not work for you. I got an error message trying to watch a Netflix movie over an RDC. It shut Windows Media Center down. I don't know if it will do the same for live TV or not. You can try, but I make no guarantees.Personally, I would go with option 1. Or just watch Internet TV on the laptop instead of live TV.

Question: XP Media Center

Long story short. A XP MC PC got a virus. I removed the viruses (692) of them with Dr. Web Virus Removal Tool. Now the PC won't boot. No error, but just a black screen after it goes through POST. She doesn't know if she still has her OS disc, and it is a Dell, so good luck on replacement. How can I get this thing recovered without the disc?

Answer:XP Media Center

IMO your best bet is to reformat. One of the virus's probably corrupted her windows explorer file so she can no longer see windows. I've had this happen a half dozen times or so. You best bet is to reformat at this point or do a repair installation since the windows files have been corrupted.

Since she has a dell they USUALLY have a recovery partition. What type of dell is this? Model number? Laptop / desktop? Which OS?

Press ctrl and F11 at bootup to get to the recovery partion. Then you will have to restore the computer to it's out-of-the-box state with this utility. Be warned this will delete all files and programs that weren't on the machine when it was first bought.

Hi all,Just installed vista home premium on my beloved thinkpad x31. It is running ok, not exciting though. The only prolem encountered so far is that it does not seem to support Windows Media Center. When trying to play the sample video in Media Center, a window pops up saying"VIDEO ERRORFiles needed to display video are not installedor not working correctly. Please restartWindows Media Center or restart thecomputer."Any idea about the cause of this problem?Anyone have any success in using Media Center on X31?Cheers

Answer:Media center on X31

Your video card is not supported by Vista in any shape or form and is honestly not powerful enough to handle anything stronger than XP. 16Mb of VRAM is OK for a five-year old subnotebook, but not for an entertainment unit. Hope this helps.

Power DVD 5 is fairly old. Here's a quote from Aug 10 2005 from the Digital Trends news site:

CyberLink PowerDVD 5.0 has been a hot one in our download section making it today's daily download.Click to expand...

This tells us how old v5.0 really is, but from the tiny bit of research I did, it should work with the Media Center. I did a quick search of CyberLink's PowerDVD knowledge base and found nothing, but maybe you can find something in their PowerDVD forums.
Good luck! I hope this helps!

Anyone have any experience with it in a HTPC or know of any issues?

Answer:XP Media Center

Works fine for me, but some would call me biased.

It's on my everday machine, the only "issues" with 2005 is that if you have a home domain MC doesn't work with it well. (but 99.9% of homes don't run a domain so it should be fine.)

VLC is a free Linux program, and works very fine for playing DVDs and a lot of other things, so there is
no need to buy Mediacenter. In some ways it works even better.

Answer:Using VLC instead of media center.

VLC cannot be used easily as a PVR. It doesn't have the same breadth of features for a quality EPG and tuner support is not at the same level.

Question: XP Media Center

Hi,

Ive got a gateway nx570x laptop with Windows Media Center 2005 on it, that I recently restored from the recovery partition. The problem is, it doesnt boot to Windows unless I have the recovery disk in. With out the disk, it just hangs at a black screen with a flashing cursor after the BIOS splash screen. With the CD in the drive, it asks you to hit 'R' for recovery options, and from there I hit 'Q' to quit and boot OS from main hard drive, which get's get me in everytime. Any one know of a way to fix this, or heard of this happening to anyone else? Things ive tried are, downloading and installing different chipset/ahci drivers, setting the main boot order to hard drive first, setting BIOS to default settings. The BIOS has no option for SATA or IDE. Any help would be aprreciated. Thank you.

Answer:XP Media Center

What are the BIOS options for boot order? It definitely sounds like it's trying to boot from the DVD drive first.

Hello,

I am about to set up my own media center device, so that I can easily view all of my media on TV. However, I have a few special requirements for it, and I was hoping maybe you can guide me as to what exists in the market that could fit my purpose.

1) So I want this separate unit to have USB connectivity, so that I can hook my external HDD on it, and be able to play all of my files.

2) This is very important: Because I have a lot of file formats (basically, movies in many formats, like DVD files, avi, mpeg, mkv bluray etc.), I need to be able to play them all. I don't want to be stuck with a device, that has a limited set of decoders, and can't play any other file. Updating the decoders, to include new ones, would also be a nice feature. Note, that I don't need to read from bluray discs, only to be able to decode the bluray files on my HDD

3) Remote controling is necessary, but not for browsing the internet, just for the playback.

4) I want to be able to record stuff from my terrestrial antenna (or any antenna, satellite or whatever, I don't know if it makes a difference), through that device, onto my external HDD. If it has a small internal HDD for such things, that would also be convenient.

5) Internet connectivity would be nice, but not really necessary.

As far as I can tell, it looks like I need a PC just for this purpose (HTPC). However, I don't want to have a whole operating system loading each and every time I need this. Plus I don... Read more

I recently bought a used laptop (Gateway MT6707-2 gigs-Intel T2060-Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit). The OS is activated and authenticated so it does not seem to be pirated. There is no Media Center anywhere to be found. I've searched the net and MS knowledge base and the only thing I've found is that versions for Europe and Asia don't have Media Center installed, it's an add on. I've downloaded the file to add Media Center to those versions but when I go to install it, it says it's not compatible with my version of Windows 7.I've searched everywhere on the HD, looked in services to make sure that everything is checked in there. There is no mention of it even existing. If I try to run Windows Experience Rating I get an error message that says "Cannot complete the requested assessment. This system does not have the necessary multi-media support to run the requested assessment" I can't access desktop gadgets and probably a myriad of other neat Windows 7 stuff. The computer came without a disk and originally had a version of Vista installed from Gateway. I do have Windows Media Player but that's it. Anybody have any ideas on this?

Answer:Where is Media Center?

Open your Start menu and type FEATURES
Select 'Turn Windows Features on or off'. When the window opens, expand the 'Media features' section and make sure that the 'Media Center' box has a check mark.

Question: Media Center fix?

Hello!

Recently windows media crashes on me.

I have a laptop Toshiba Qosmio F30-111 bought a year ago.

The OS (microsoft windows XP Media center edition Version 2002 Service pack 2) was preinstalled from factory and so far has not given me major problems.

Now MCE gives me an error message when try to watch tv

Says that cannot load the files to play radio or video and tells me to reboot my pc

The report sent to microsoft contents

Local Settings\Application Data\microsoft\ehome\ehshell.crash
Local Settings\Application Data\microsoft\ehome\BlackScreen.log

Also when I go to configure options and click on TV says that is not able to find the tunner:
"The hardware of tunner does not work properly or it is not installed...."

I have been trying to find a fix over the internet and I have only found few people making reference to an eshell crash and some of them said that they run programs like registry fix, (wich i have done myself) the suggested fix was to restore the MCE registry values to default by copying and pasting. (http://www.techsupportforum.com/f10/...hes-66981.html)
Since I have run registry fix myself thought that it made sense and I have tried to find a log with default values for the registry with no
luck.

My laptop has an nvidia geforce go 7600

When i go to the registry found that MCE Ident is 4.0 (i have read that is an update to MCE 2005)

I don't know what else could i do to try to fix my problem.

Question: Media Center

I'm hopefully going to be acquiring a ~50" HDTV in the near future and as such I'm planning on converting one of my many boxes to an HTPC setup for it, however the problem is that I don't really know where to start for an HTPC application suite.

I was originally planning on using MythTV for it, however I don't want to completely abandon its functionality for P2P, Chat, Gaming, etc so I'm looking for something Windows based,

In my previous encounters with Windows XP MCE I've been pretty unimpressed by the numerous bugs that have still managed to slip through the cracks.

Here's the basics of what I'm looking for:
-DVD
-DivX/Xvid/etc..
-MP3
-Most importantly: The ability to stream media from other PCs on the network without too much of a hassle to set up.
-Preferably free
-I don't have any immediate plans to buy a remote control, however support for that would be a plus.

PC Specs:
P4 2.4ghz, Northwood core
1GB Generic PC-3200
120GB + 60GB HDDs
BFG6600GT
DVD+CD/RW

Give me your suggestions

Answer:Media Center

my suggestion, despite your past experience, would still be MCE2005 (or maybe Vista, but ive never used it so i dont know).
I know you say youve lost it with MCE in the past, but my experience has been similar and i still use it.

My first install of MCE was an absolute disaster, i got so pissed with it i formatted and put something else on....but after a while, i found that it was very very difficult to match some of MCE's features that i had come to rely on.

For instance the Timeshifting that starts itself every time you change achannel and builds up its own buffer...i havent been able to find another implementation that works as well. What the hell is the point of timeshifting if you have to turn it on yourself each time...if i knew there was going to be something i was going to miss and need to rewind...id be paying attention in teh first place.
So anyway, i went back to MCE2005 expecting an uphill battle...but with Rollup2 adding HD and AC3 support, i couldnt be happier. I very rarely have problems with it anymore, and everything works beautifully.

Id suggest giving it another go.

However, i don't understand how to get the Media center installed on xp.. Do i really need to buy the "Media center edition" and re-install all my computers to that edition? Or can I somehow upgrade it, or install the media center as an application on the computers, already running xp.

Or do I need the windows vista, which I know comes with the media center? '

Answer:xp media center?

you can get an iso of media center through an MSDN subscription (download & burn). I think that's for development purposes only though. It's also trivial to make a copy of a legit cd. The question is, did you get a prodcut key / certificate of authenticity? The media really doesn't matter so long as you have a valid license.

Question: Media Center PC

I have built myself a very nice setup. I have an AMD Athlon XP 1800+/Asus Mobo with 512mb of Ram and 160GB HD to use as a Media Center PC. I have it in my living room, connected to my 53inch HDTV. Now, my HDTV does not have a DVI/VGA adapter, but it does have an HDMI adapter. For those of you who do not know, HDMI is an upgrade to DVI technology, because it houses digital video and audio in one connection, yet it can downgrade to DVI as well.

SO, I have a DVI to HDMI cable plugged from my computer to my TV, yet I cannot seem to get the resolution correct on my TV. It defaults to 1950x540, which is incredibly too big and too narrow. I've tried 720x480, as well as 1920x1080 but nothing else seems to work. Any other programs or settings out there to try?

If I plug the TV into the computer via S-Video, as it is now, I have no problems, only the signal is a little blurry, not as clear as I would like. Will the HDMI/DVI setup look a lot clearer?

I've learned that I'm treading in uncharted waters, as many people have no idea what I'm talkin about, but I figured you guys here would know best of anyone.

I have tried POWERSTRIP as well as ULTRAMON to change my display settings with no luck.

Thanks in advance!

If it is a CRT projection, its likely it its a 1920x1080 (aka 1080i) INTERLACED resolution, which means that probably you have only run it at 960X540 Progressive. If it is a DLP, or LCD projection tv, then the resolution is probaby 1280X720 (aka 720P) Progressive. If it is plasma, then it might be 852x480 (480P), 1024x1024, 1024x769 or 1366x768, all progressice. BTW, the LCD projections may have a resolution of 1366X768 or 1280X768 also. What model is your TV

Question: XP media center OS

I have a hp dv5000 notebook, it came with xp media ctr, no restore disks(a seperate partition for restoration) The system crashed, my freind rebooted me with xp pro, since the computer has been very slow (like its using all its resources for unkown crap and theres nothing left for the applications) I took it to a pc shop, they looked it over and said the OS needs to be restored to original for it to operate properly. I was told to contact HP for a recovery disk and they should send it to me. HP gave me the runaround, so I contacted microsoft. the girl at microsoft told me to find someone with a similar notebook and xp media ctr, have them copy the d:/ drive (recovery drive partition) and use my key to restore. she said itll work as long as the notebooks are the same model and os. Can anyone help with the recovery files for this notebook?

Answer:XP media center OS

clarification - do you still have the recovery partition?

I bought a new Toshiba laptop about a month ago with Vista. I was able to use Media center on it, and it was working fine.
Later on, the shortcut in the start menu was dead.
Now, I can't find it anywhere. I have searched for it, I used the "Run" console, and i have looked in various places. It doesn't seem to exist. When i use the keyboard shortcut to start it, nothing happens, except for a "ding"...
So, please give me some advice.
thanks

Are the features that media center has worth more the Pro?

I know pro offers much more administrative stuff, but i'm just wonding if the media center features are worthwhile.

Answer:XP media center vs XP pro

I thought Media Center 2005 was Pro with media center add-ons. As far as I can tell it is. If your going to be using your computer on your TV a lot or streaming to your Xbox360 then sure get Media Center 2005. But really there are other programs that work similarly to Media Center as far as using it on your TV. Media Center is OEM only so it maybe harder to find, I know newegg has it though.

So I'd say media center isn't really worth it over Pro, but from what I've seen it doesn't cost much more if at all.

Oh and I forgot your get Windows Dancer!

Question: media center

Hi, Sorry if this is the wrong forum. Have just installed upgrade windows 8 to windows 7, downloaded the media center (wondered where it had gone to), I want to record a tv show and it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark that tells me that it will not record because there is not enough room on the disc. There is over 500gb! I have checked that the storage folder is right, what now?
I am gradually getting used to windows 8 but a lot of programs I need can't be installed.
Thanks

Is there something special that I missed about Media Center.

Thanks

Question: Media Center PC

Hi everybody, i just finished building my DIY Media Center PC. It has a P3 800mhz, 384mb Ram, 20gb Ram, Riva TNT 2 with TV out. It has XP on it and it works very well playing movies and such. Is there a program or os that will play movies, has a good gui suited for a TV and should be able to network so i can transfer media files from computer to media center pc.

A program should sit nicely on top of Windows and give it nice big readable text and images.

An os should have all the functions of video playback, divx, mp3, networking etc.

Thanks.
Wayne

Answer:Media Center PC

XPize check this out. It is a app that you install and it looks and runs like MCE. So you should be able to do what you want with it and have it look like a MCE PC.

i have windows media center edition 2005 and when i use media center to play the video from my tv tuner card it laggs ans skips alot but if i use wintv 2000 i have no lag or skipping but i like the media center set up better what makes it lag like this?

Answer:help with media center

Is it buffering when the lag happens? If media center did not come with the system you can try Windows updates, a recommendation I read elsewhere. What are your system stats? It takes a pretty good processor and a fast video card to use Media Center. Of course, some of the other members might have some detailed information for you.

Question: Media Center 11

My computer, out of the clear blue sky, wanted to set up Windows Media Center 11. I received a warning from Zone Alarm that the Microsoft Windows Media center Configuration Utility wanted to read and modify physical memory. Why would it need to do this? Is this suppose to happen?

I have been having lots of weird things happen to my computer lately and I am concerned.
Is there someone really knowledgeable with Microsoft products who can help.
It seems something is always being modified and it seems so many things are trying to access the internet.
Thanks

Is media center edition better then xp pro for general web browsing, media (duh) and messaging?

Answer:Media Center or XP Pro

windows xp media centre is basically for people who want to have their PC hooked up to their big screen TV, and be able to watch movies, television, off their PC.

for web browsing, MSN, watching movies on a monitor, XP professional will do fine.

if you are looking for a cheap alternative, XP Home is recommended for basic stuff like you want to do, or Linux, which is free!

Answer:XP pro VS XP media center

It depends on what you use it for.

Unless you require advanced TV and media features, then stick with XP.

Question: Media Center

I have a question, a new computer we got here at work has Windows XP Media Center edition, my question is, is it possible to download or purchase and wonload just the Media Center program for my Windows X64 Professional? Or is it an OS-embedded sort of program? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Media Center

MCE is embedded into the operating system. Some people have figured out how to hack it out, but it was only for MCE2004. Furthermore, there is only a 32bit MCE out right now.
