Preferred Solution: Anyone Know A Good Monitoring Program?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I am looking to a good alternative to Everest Ultimate Engineer. I used to use everest to monitor all of my temperatures and how much of my CPU is being utilized on one of my other monitors.

If you guys know of any good applications let me know.

Thanks.

Hi All,I've been using Sandra to monitor temps with my video card and CPU, but with my new motherboard it doesn't show my CPU temps.

MSI P6N Sli-FI and a 7900GT KO

Any good simple programs I can use to monitor temps for these two? I was told on the MSI website to avoid using the programs that came with the motherboard.

Thanks

Does anyone use website monitoring software (basically, for pages that don't offer an RSS feed)?

I currently use changedetection.com, and read it in Google Reader, but I'm wondering if anything better exists.

Here are my 'needs':

1. Track additions (and deletions, preferably; but at least additions).
2. Be web-based/online (not a stand-alone program)
3. Check pages at least once a day
4. Be FREE
5. No limit to # of pages checked
6. Deliver updates in an RSS feed.

I'm not optimistic anything better than changedetection exists (based on my needs), but I figured it's worth checking!

Thanks!

Greetings,

I wrote a program which was running into memory leak problems. I believe I solved the problem, but I'd like a program that can monitor a specific (just the exe file I wrote) process and show me the memory usage in chart form over a period of time. Is there such a program? Also, freeware would be the best.

I'm using Windows XP.

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Jon

Do a Google search for "Motherboard Monitor". This is a popular program called MBM. It is updated every so often and has a lot of features.

I was hoping to find a good program for monitoring any and all file/folder changes that occur on my hard drive when I install/run certain programs. This would be such a great help in troubleshooting some problems I've been having. Ideally the program would have useful filter/search features to help sort out everything that gets written/modified on my HD. And maybe if it is really good, the program could even tell me changes to my system's registry.

Anyone know of a good free program that can do this for Windows XP? Thanks in advance!

I was wondering if somebody could refer me to some good programs that let me monitor the incoming and outgoing bandwidth of 4 computers on my home network. We have a D-link router and all machines using windows xp. I want to be able to see which computers are using what ammount of downstream from our cable modem. I've google searched so many programs but there are so many, i can't seem to find one that does just that. monitoring is mainly what im looking for, hey if the same software can control it as well, that's fine too. if not, no prob. please help. thanks

Answer:Good program for monitoring home network bandwidth of 4 computers using XP, help

I use Cacti at home and at work. It runs on Linux/BSD or Windows.

Edit - I just read your second post. Although I haven't used it in several years I think that NetStat Live will do what you want but you would have to use it on each PC.

I don't think a DLink router will give you real-time stats.

I looked in the downloads section for monitoring software and am not sure if the right thing is there for me. Any suggestions for monitoring software, as far knowing what users are doing on the computer? Maybe one that takes screen prints every so often? I've heard of programs that take screen shots, but don't know any of their names. It's probably marketed as software for parental control of children's activities on a computer.

This is for my mom, who would not do well reading a log file (pictures are better). She wants to monitor what her employees are doing. Another option that might be nice, but not required of this, would be software that would also allow my mom to place restrictions on Internet usage, etc.

Thanks!

Answer:Good Monitoring Software

We really need to know more about your network to be able to advise the best course of action. Is it a Windows network? If so, what version? Is it on a domain? What type of access do users have to their machines? Are they administrators, or limited users? How many users? (believe me, this IS a factor - policing hundreds of people in the manner you are suggesting would be a nightmare, IMO - imagine going through all the screenshots of all those users!!)

You can actually block websites right in the browser with Internet Explorer, and then use group policies to restrict a user's access to the blocked sites list.

To block a site in IE, please do the following:

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click on the 'Tools' menu
3. Select 'Internet Options'
4. Select the 'Security' tab
5. Under 'Select A Web Content Zone to specify its security settings' select 'Restricted Sites'
6. Press the 'Sites' button

You will be presented with a dialog where you can add URLs to the Restricted Zone. Add whatever URLs you would like to block, and apply your settings.

You can then remove the 'Internet Options' function from the 'Tools' menu of Internet Explorer using group policies. XP Pro has a local group policy editor that you can use for an individual machine to do this. However, it would need to be done on every machine, and if a user has administrative access to the local machine, they could remov... Read more

I've built my first desktop rig in a few years, and was wondering what people use for temperature monitoring. I've remember a program called Motherboard Monitor (MBM) back when I had a desktop before, but was curious what's out there now.

Here's what I have:

AMD Athlon64 x2 4200+ CPU
ABit AT8-32 motherboard (Radeon Xpress 3200 chipset)
ATI X1900 Crossfire Edition video card (I plan to add the second one later)

Pretty much I'm looking for a way to monitor CPU temperatures and GPU temps if possible.

Answer:Looking for a good temperature monitoring app

I use SpeedFan and really like it. It shows one temp (CPU by default) on the taskbar. Can open it up to see every temp, including hard drive temps. You can also see the voltages (although software readings are never precise) and fan speeds. And there is a tab for SMART readings (hard drive fitness/performance). The latest version also has advanced SMART analysis, using a website with a big database.

Hi all,

I work as a voice and data consultant and we often need to know what the bandwidth utilization of our clients are, however getting this information from the service providers is often difficult and takes awhile.

My question to all of you is, do you know of any good bandwidth-monitoring tool? What we would like to do is have something installed on a laptop that we could take to our client’s location and set up that would generate some utilization charts.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer:Good bandwidth monitoring tool?

What kind of utilization do you want? Throughput? Protocol distribution?
This will dictate what you need to get.

You should be able to get a RMON probe to get most of the info.

Sniffers also will be able to get that information for you.

A free one is Ethereal.

Commercial ones includes Network General Sniffer, Wildpackets Etherpeek, Eeye Iris.

I need someone to recomend me some home network monitoring software. I live with 2 roommates and sometimes when I'm trying to play games my pings will shoot up to like 1000 or something. Its obviously them downloading something and I want some sofware so I can see who is doing it and what is eating up the bandwidth. I have a netgear home wireless router. I know how to do this **** on Cisco routers but i'm not too good with home routers for some reason.

Also it would be nice if I could get hooked up with some software that could possibly let me limit the amount of speed each user gets.

Well sence you are using a standalone router there really is no way, that I know of, to do what you want. If you had a hardware router running linux these things would be pretty easy to do.

I need something that is going to do a bunch of connectivity reporting.

I need one tool that does all of the following. The company I am working for is willing to pay I just don't know an all inclusive tool.

1) Ping from PC to router to verify PC connectivity to the Network. If it drops send it to an e-mail log of disconnection to be sent upon a successfull reconnection.
2) PC to the internet (perferably multiple locations on the internet) ping and will e-mail me (again on a delayed basis) once the outage has resolved itself. multiple locations perferred to ensure it truely is an internet problem and not a single site problem.
3) Intermittent download/upload speed tests throughout the day.

I have someone I am supporting that does not have a high end router than can't get me much information but their having a heck of a time fighting battles with their ISP. I figure this way I can have some ammo to throw at them.

I'm looking at setting up monitoring software on my Atom box that is currently powering my hvac system. I want it to be easy to setup the agents on various platforms (linux mostly, but Windows too) as well as support custom alarm points such as executing a SQL query or script and checking the value. Mostly the key is ease of setup though.

I have a bit of experience with Pandora as we use it at work. It has a few quircks and is not the easiest to setup an agent for, but it's not too bad.

I heard Nagios is good as well. I'm aiming towards that one just because I heard lot of good things about it. Just wondering what else is out there and what is everyone's recomendations?

Oh and I would be monitoring offsite servers as well, so push agent is prefered so I don't have to open up ports on the remote servers. I rather just open up a port on the monitoring box (which will be at my house) and IP restrict it. More secure that way.

Could you perhaps be a little more specific? "any/everything network related" sounds to me like you want a very, very large, fast disk, a constantly-running tcpdump session on each interface, and an encrypted handoff of the logged traffic to a remote, centralized logging host (NOTE: This is how some security systems approach centralized logging of network traffic, for later analysis).

If you can narrrow down what it is you need to monitor, we can probably suggest more appropriate tools (e.g., a simple password-protected SNMP query via an encrypted tunnel to obtain up-to-the-mircosecond network interface statistics).

Note also that neither of the suggestions I describe above are pre-packaged "tools" in the sense that you'd tar xzf a gzip'd tarball, ./configure && make && make install and be done with it. It'd require a bit of shell scripting or Perl scripting or $LANGUAGE_OF_CHOICE scripting to glue together existing tools (e.g., ssh, tcpdump, scp, the snmp toolkit (under whichever University's banner is distributing it now; I remember it as the UCSD toolkit).

Now, a process doesn't nessecarly = a program, but it should give you a pretty good idea of what is chewing up all ur CPU resources. Feel free to post the process that is using all the CPU resources if you don't know what it is, and we can help you figure out what it is and how to fix the situation.

my fans in my tower have been acting up and i don't have the money at the moment to replace them all.... mostly it seems once the computer boots up the fans work fine.
but a few times a fan is starting up really slow and my computer will go in to the BIOS to show me that one of my fans is spinning far too slow... but after about a minute the fan speed goes to what seems to be the normal speed for the rest of the fans.

so i was thinking about getting a monitoring program to be able to check the speed of my fans and/or temp of my motherboard/CPU.

but since i try to not have to over clock my system ever i have never really looked in to monitoring programs and have no idea if i should use one for what motherboard i have or if there is one that will work for pretty much any computer system.

Answer:What Motherboard Monitoring Program Should I Use?

I'm not sure what advantage a monitoring program would give you? Since you're already being warned of the problem (a fan fault) surely checking which fan is starting slowly and replacing just that fan is what you need to do. One fan should not be too expensive.

Windows already has one, it's called "Windows Installer" service, and the "report module" is the "Programs and Features" control panel applet... For 3rd party installer, there always be some kind of log left out in the installed application's folder ("install.log" is the most common log filename). Then there's the HUGE database that Windows use to keep track of everything, called "The Registry"...

Can anyone tell me what is a good and free program that would allow me to monitor what is going through the ports on my computer? Thanx.

Answer:Port Monitoring Program?

DO you want to see what is going across the network (Packet Sniffing) or what connections are open? (port Monitor)

For port monitoring use ActivePorts

For packet sniffing use Ethereal

These are MY recomendations and I use these tools all the time, Others might reccomend other tools.

Matt

Note: Ethereal or (any other packet sniffer) is really a tool for network admins or other advanced users. Unless you understand the protocols used, reconstructing TCP/IP streams probably isn't going to show you much.

I have been getting some serious lag spikes on Xbox Live while playing GOW2. Now I share a connection with my family and I'm not sure if I'm getting spikes due to bad LIVE servers or if someone is doing heavy usage (i.e. running torrents). Is there an easy to use bandwith monitoring program that will let me see each computer's bandwith draw from the router?

Answer:Best bandwith monitoring program?

What do you use for a router?

The best bandwidth monitoring comes from routers as they see all inbound/outbound traffic directly. But most consumer routers lack monitoring functions.

I'm looking for a program that I can download so that I can monitor my computers heat. I had an extra fan installed last year, as the original fan was constantly on high speed during last summer. I need something very easy to use, dummy proof if you will, lol. I did have a program installed, but lost it when the computer was reformatted/XP reinstalled.

Thanks for any suggestions on safe for dummies programs, lol.

I need a program exactly like HWmonitor, but it has to keep a log of the temps and voltages, not just a one-time report, but a log where every 5 seconds or so the temps/voltages are added to the TXT file as a new entry (or on a new line or a new section), and each entry would have a timestamp. I need this 'cuz I have a PC here that is shutting of at random, and I'm having a heck of a time tracking down the cause. I've tested the HD, RAM; both are 100% OK. I've tested/swapped the power supply. The temps and voltages I've seen have been completely acceptable, but it seems like whenever I leave to do something else, I come back and the PC is off. The motherboard has no popped capacitors and was recently replaced. All sleep and hibernation settings have been disabled. So- I need to log the temps/voltages so I can track exactly what's happening when my back is turned.

THX!

Answer:Looking for a particular system monitoring program

.... so when the PC shuts off, and then I power it back on and load to the desktop, I can check the log and see what the temps & voltages were when it turned off, and what the time was when it happened. Nothing in the Event Viewer has offered any clues.

Answer:Interface Monitoring Program?

Any program that can use SNMP can poll an interface of a router/switch/server.

Some commercial ones are whatsup gold, ca unicenter nsm, Hp openview, etc.

At this hour, the only free one that comes to mind is nagios. you can also do with with MRTG.

If you are just looking for a program that you can fire up to poll at a certain interval, I use GetIf.

Hi all, for the last few hours I have scoured the internet in an attempt to find the best internet monitoring software for what I want but have ultimately gotten stuck. I was hoping that someone with a bit of knowledge about this on here might be able to direct me, seeing as these programs aren't cheap. Win-Spy had everything I wanted, however their site seemed rather odd and reviews I read said that they collect your personal data (such as credit card info when you buy it) and then later misuse it. So basically the features I want in the program are:-To monitor everything (key logs, chats, emails, sites visited, programs accessed, screenshots, etc)-Have Remote Install (Install the program on a PC I don't have access to but I want this done WITHOUT its user knowing it)Obviously they all come with a lot more, but the most important features for me are the ones listed above. Any help will be much appreciated.

I've spent the last hour or so scouring Google for a simple program that will let me see every change/addition the installation of a program makes to the registry during installation. I tried to use Sandboxie, but it kept giving me weird errors (I know Sandboxie works fine, I've used it on plenty of other programs before) If that program could also show me every directory it adds/modifies on my computer that would be awesome as well, but right now I mainly want to see what it's putting in the registry. If anyone has any such programs in mind I'd love them since apparently Google can't find any for me.

I did see some stuff about one called RegMod, but all the links I found were broken, and it seems like a really old program anyway.

Thanks

What is the best program to monitor my CPU temps, voltages, etc in realtime? I just built a new i7 system, and I want to get a good program to monitor the CPU temps, Fan RPMs, Voltages, and other motherboard information.

I would prefer one that has a nice gadget/window that I can have on my desktop 24/7. I used to use Motherboard Monitor 5, and I really liked the Dashboard window that it had. It would hide itself along the side of my screen and pop up whenever I put my mouse over it to display all the temps, voltages, and rpms in a nice small window.

Answer:Network bandwith monitoring program?

Depending on where you want the monitoring yes. There are 2 ways I could see doing this.

If the switches support SNMP any monitoring application that can poll the switches interface counters. MRTG, Zabbix, etc.
Flow based monitoring on the router, this may not be as precise though depending on how the flows are tracked.

There is probably is not one. Think about it there, is no software feed back connection from printer to computer, ecpt for paper jams and that type of malfunctionEven those that show such a device- e.g. EPSON- it is a fudge that simply counts the number of pages passing through the printer.Obviously if the pages have on the one hand a letterhead and ten lines of text- then the ink usage will be far less then full blown A4 photo'sEven though a given number of sheets have passed through.

Yes a program does exist. Its called Fluke Protocol Inspector and its very expensive and very hard to use. It does everything needed to examine a network and packets sent to and from devices in the network.

Hello community!

I would like a recommendation of any program that allows controlling or at least monitoring the use of a computer, preferably free. e.g: a program that somehow allows to block the use of the computer after a certain time has elapsed, or at least that indicates with a notification that a certain time of use has been fulfilled.

Thanks!

Answer:Program to control/monitoring the use of a computer

Windows has had a feature for this built into Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and now it's in or available in Windows 10. It's called Parental Controls, just do a search on your pc for it.
I'm not sure of the monitoring features portion of it, but you can control when the pc can be used by each user, what software they can use, what website's Microsoft web browsers can go to and what games can be played by them. You can also configure the times for everything (I/e: User A; can play games from 6:30 P.M.-8:00 P.M., can use this software from 3:30P.M.- 10:00P.M., etc.)

On my previous computer, I used a bandwidth monitoring program called Networx. However, that computer later developed a crippling problem (the main hard drive locking up at random, unpredictable intervals). I had the computer tested, and the problem couldn't be identified, except that the hard drive was apparently not the issue. To this day, the issue still hasn't been identified.

I can't rule out Networx as a possible cause, as it apparently installs a driver during installation, and I have read posts here on TenForums that state that this driver may have caused computer crashes. But I need a good bandwidth monitoring program for my new computer that allows me to tell how much bandwidth I have used in a particular time period (my ISP takes three days to update my bandwidth usage information).

It turns out that there is also a portable version of Networx, which I downloaded and ran (on my new computer), before deciding that this was an unwise decision. Now, I'm afraid that even running it might have installed a dangerous driver, even though the program itself didn't have to install. I quickly deleted it, but the damage may have already been done. Is it possible that it did install a driver without my knowledge?

Does anyone know a good, safe bandwidth monitoring program, especially one that doesn't install drivers and hasn't been associated with computer crashes?

Answer:Safe bandwidth monitoring program?

I've been using Networx on two Win10 PC's with no issues whatsoever, however the latest version is no longer free, when updating it converts to a 30 day trial, bit of a sneaky way of doing it IMO, cost $29 per year for a 5PC licence.
Haven't decided on or if any replacement yet as can monitor usage through router anyway.

is there a simple program that shows what programs are using or connecting to the internet

Answer:internet traffic program v. monitoring

The simplest of all is netstat (network status), a command line utility in Windows. Open a Command Prompt, type netstat -a and it'll list everything that's using the network interface(s) with inbound and outbound connection endpoints. Only downside is that it's a run once type utility; run it and it'll tell you what's open at the time you ran it, that's it.

ActivePorts is a great tool that allows for real-time monitoring and updating of the current connections inbound and outbound. You can get a download link for it from this page:

Speedfan and HWmonitor say that my load temperatures are 55C. Realtemp and Coretemp say that my load temperatures are 50C. I need to know which programs are correct because I would like to further overclock my processor from 3.6ghz to 3.8ghz. I was wondering if any of our group use such a program and, if so, which one, and the pros and cons relative to such a program.

Hello All,

I'm looking for some software that can analyze the resource usage of my computer over time (e.g. CPU, RAM, I/O read/writes). Beyond that, I'm wondering if such software could watch certain programs for resource usage and identify when it is limited by my current setup (e.g. if the program runs out RAM, it will note that). Part of what I'm trying to do is identify avenues for future upgrades.

I've been looking for software like this, but haven't been able to find anything.

I'd prefer that it be open source or at least free of charge, if at all possible.

Thank you for any help. (If this is the wrong subforum, please let me know.)

Have a client with 5x locations, I'd like to find a simple monitoring program that will show the status of the broadband connections of the satellite offices. Router to router VPN tunnels between the 4x satellites and mothership.

Would be nice it it would run in Windows.
Routers at all sites are Linksys/Cisco RV0 series. Satellites are just 1 - 2 PC branch offices.

Unfortunately mixed DSL and cable environment (I prefer to have all sites on same type of broadband from the same ISP if I can, but not do-able for this setup). Combined with the RV0 and their occasional tendancy to drop the VPN tunnels....the accountant at the main office sorta needs to know when a tunnel drops so she can log into the main RV0 and "reconnect" the tunnel.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if theres any program that you can recommend for monitoring logins. For example, I want to know when someone logged in and at what time and also if theres any that tell how much time was spent, but mostly more interested in the time and date logged in.

Thanks

Answer:Program recommendation for monitoring logins in Windows 7

Have a domain setup which would require people to log in

You can also setup local policies, but I think outside of server you're only going to be able to see failed attempts and successful logins.

Another quick and dirty option would be to create a script that runs in a users startup folder. That script could send information on user, time and date. As for the log off i'm not 100% sure if you could do that for log offs.

Also depending on the OS you are using parental controls in Vista and Windows 7 are pretty powerful, you can select when they can log in, what websites they can go to and what games / programs they are allowed to use (if the end goal is to monitor a child or to control users).
