intellisync Via the command line

Question: intellisync Via the command line

[font=&quot]Ok here is what I am trying to do.
I am trying to figure out the switches that can be used for intellisync via the command line.
I want to setup a schedule so I can have a calendar in one program synchronize with outlook without having to login and out of the program.

I am looking at doing this for a user who is trying to get the two calendars synchronized when her boss is in a meeting or if she cant get in to his office before she leaves at night. As she is in charge of his calendar.

I have been able to figure out one switch /r for run...but other than that I have failed.

I have done many google searches but I can't seem to find what I am looking for.

If anyone can help me with this one I owe you big time.

thanks in advance

Preferred Solution: intellisync Via the command line

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: intellisync Via the command line

I'd explore through the in-built help files.

You could also try help on the command line.

Try the command with the /? switch, /help /h -h --h...-?
Or some combination of the sort.

I want to hide this. I'm running a python progam (if that matters) and it always has that open on my taskbar. I want to hide it. I don't care where it goes or how much time it takes, I just want to hide it. So I never have to deal with it. Maybe make it a system process or something? I don't know.

Anybody know the command to copy a disk? Like Linux = cp /dev/sda /dev/sdb , or dd xyz -> xyx

What's the Windows command line syntax for this copy task?

Answer:Command line to clone disk? COMMAND line; NOT 3rd party app.

No. Don't believe that is built in. The latest Windows versions have imaging software built in with a GUI.

Or, DD For Windows

Comodo Time Machine
Clonezilla Live (A bootable CD of Debian with Clonezilla.)

Somehow the line that you put web sites -- after the http --has disappeared. I'm sure that there's a simple way to get it back but I'm new to WIN XP. Can someone help.

Answer:Lost command line -- line with site addresses WinXP

I think you are talking about the address bar in a web browser???

You did not mention what browser you are using. For Internet Explorer 6, right click in any other visible menu bar and then make sure that "Address Bar" is checked in the box that pops up. This may work for other versions of Internet Explorer.

Hi everyone, what is the commmand for command prompt to stop a process? What i would like to do is make a shortcut to stop the KBD.exe process. The reason for that is when someone in my family puts a disk in, plays a game, and sometimes when they take the disk out it complains about there being no disk in the drive. The only way to shut it up is to end the process in the task manager and click cancel on the window. This way is a little to complicated for some of the memebers of my family and i would like to be able to just create a shortcut for it.

Answer:Whats the command line command to stop a process?

Click on Start, then run
type in cmd to get to command prompt
type in taskkill /f kbd.exe

The forward slash /f forces it to kill the process.

Hello,

I'm trying to split a .flv file by using flvparse, which is a Windows-only, command-line interface tool. I did get through to the directory by following instructions posted on another forum, however, command prompt doesn't seem to recognize the the .exe file. I'm an absolute novice at this, any help would be really appreciated!

Attaching a CP s/s, and here are the instructions I'm trying to follow (copy pasted from the forum)

FLVPARSER

For trimming the beginning and/or ending of videos, you can use FLVParser (http://dev2.avacast.com/FLVparser.zip ).
FLVParser is a Windows-only, command-line interface tool. After you unzip it, move its folder to C:\ for ease of use. Also for ease of use, copy/move the .flv file you wish to edit into the FLVParse folder.
To make edits, you need to know the in and out points where you want the edits. Use FLVPlayer to find these points. FLVPLayer only lists times in total number of seconds, not HH:MM:SS, but don't worry, FLVParser can handle that. In the FLVParse directory create a new blank text file called: CuePointFile.dat
This is the file FLVParser uses to edit from. Open it in NotePad, and enter the in point and out point, separated by a single blank space, like so: 2525 5150
Save, and close the file. Open up the command line interface and go to the FLVParse directory: cd C:\FLVParse
In the command line, enter this to edit the flv:
flvparse.exe FileToSplit.flv CuePointFile.dat
Your file will be split into ... Read more

Answer:Command Prompt doesnt seem to recognize the command line!!

However looking at you screen shot, you may have to check the command over carefully. There does appear to be an error in the command. With my eyes, it is difficult at times to pick out the subtle shades of difference.

The first one simply turns Hibernation off, disables Fast Startup, and deletes the system file hiberfil.sys. I'm not aware of connection with Sleep or waking up on a trigger. I have these settings, as stated, on my machine, and I can still put it to sleep and wake it up. I'm not familiar with the last four at all, although sleep states are usually (I think) set in the BIOS. Whatever is set there is available in the OS. S0-S4, I think. Maybe S5.

A little more info here: NO Hibernation just SLEEP

Also, you might want to check your advanced power plan settings to see if you have enabled wake timers.

I have created a manuals package. The package has a main file that everything else is linked to. I can create a self extracting exe program from pkzip application. What I don't know how to do is have the program create a shortcut to the main file from this program. If it is not possible to do this with pkzip then what application will do this.i.e. I want to have something say "Would you like to create a shortcut to Manuals or your desktop?" in the or any file extraction application.Thank youRJT

Answer:How to create self extracting command line command

You can create a WinScript file (.vbs extension)Example:set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")         strDesktop = WshShell.SpecialFolders("Desktop")         set oShellLink = WshShell.CreateShortcut(strDesktop & "\Shortcut Script.lnk")         oShellLink.TargetPath = WScript.ScriptFullName         oShellLink.WindowStyle = 1         oShellLink.Hotkey = "CTRL+SHIFT+F"         oShellLink.IconLocation = "notepad.exe, 0"         oShellLink.Description = "Shortcut Script"         oShellLink.WorkingDirectory = strDesktop         oShellLink.SaveYou'll have to change the parameters for your own situation. Good Luck!

Good stuff, but then there's something wrong with his verbatim copy of a directory... You should add the p option to the tar extraction command, in order to preserve file attributes (ctime, mtime, atime, owner, group) - ie, tar xpvf and not tar xvf.

I use this regularly in order to make verbatim copies of a directory:

I need some help, but probably don't have a full grasp on the problem, so don't really know how to ask for help. I will describe what I have and hopefully, it will help to describe what I want to accomplish.

I have a Linksys router with DD-WRT installed. I am able to SSH/Telnet into the router. I would like to be able to reboot or shutdown my computer remotely from the command line during a Putty/SSH session.

Here is how I make the session connection: In Putty, I enter
the static IP address and port (default is 22) under "Session".
Under "SSH > Tunnels" I enter the "source port" (again, 22)
and "Destination" (ex - 192.168.0.5:3389), then hit "Add", then "Open"

This opens a command line, where I enter "user" and "pwd"
(the defaults are root and admin). I am now connected to my
router and I can use Remote Desktop to get control over my
remote computer (using XP Pro).

My question is: While at the command prompt, is there a
command to reboot or shutdown my remote computer? Is there a list
of other commands that are available here?

BTW, at the command prompt, I can start my remote computer (Wake on LAN) by typing the following command:
/usr/sbin/wol -i 192.168.0.5 MA:CAD:RE:SS:44
(where the last portion is the MAC address)

I want to create a setup whereas a command line command can be run from any directory/folder, without having to be in the directory/folder whereas the command line command resides ?

Answer:Executing command line command anywhere ?

Add the directory the cmd or bat files resides in to the PATH environment variable.

Quote:
To check or modify the system PATH environment variable, do the following:

XP: Right clock on My Computer
Vista, 7: Right click on Computer
Windows 8, 10: Right click on This PC

Select Properties

Vista, 7, 8, 10: Click on Advanced System Properties on the left

On the Advanced tab, click on Environment Variables
Under System Variables, scroll down to Path
Select it then click Edit

An easy way to look at all of it is to right click on the highlighted Variable Value field and select copy, then start Notepad and paste the data into there. That way you can easily look at all of it.

It's also a lot easier to make changes in Notepad then copy and paste the changed data back into the Path Variable Value field.

Click Ok as needed to exit when done

Question: command-line log?

does win xp by default keep a log of command line commands executed?

i'm looking for a list of commands executed during the current windows session, but not the current command.com session (i.e. I closed the command prompt window, but haven't logged out)

also: does win xp keep a log of ftp transfers done by the built-in ftp command line utility?

Thanks much!

Answer:command-line log?

No log, usually. You would need something like 4NT or PowerCmd to log command actions.

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I wanted to ask a tricky question.

I want to be able to access another PC via telnet (this I can do easily via RADMIN software) which gives the the CMD prompt access.

I then want to be able to launch a Sound file (or similiar) so that the user on the other end just hears whatever sound I have triggered (i.e. it doesn't have to launch WMP or similiar software).

Any ideas on how to do this?

I know it can be done as a clever guy I used to work with set it up and it was quite comical in the office when he was able to trigger cow noises, etc from anyone's PC by remoting in via the backend.

Cheers

Dave

Answer:run exe via command line

I don't know the answer, I just want to subscribe in case someone else does !

I suppose if you could figure out how the default Windows sounds are triggered you could find the command line to run them.

I wish to have downloads from the Web transferred directly to a file I have on my desktop. Presently it goes to program files/x86/program name. I wish it to go to my desktop and into "My Downloads". if possible. Can anyone help me accomplish this task? I need the command line. Thank you.

Answer:Command line

Hi Alvin,

First, if you aren't prompted for where to download files, see the following article to make sure that happens: Not Prompted to Specify Download Folder for File.

Second, if you are prompted but don't like where it selects and want it to be a different location (like the folder on your desktop), check out the following article: How to change the default download directory for Internet Explorer | Windows Reference.

I hope this helps.

Just first off I've never been too good with CMD and only an Apprentice in my company I work for.

Now something I've wanted to do for awhile was to make the following but I don't necassirealy I know how to do this in one batch file:

I would need a Batch file that is able to read the follow;
Find Current Hard Drive Space and What is used (Dir can do this as far as im aware)
Convert the CMD information Into either a Excel Document or a .txt format.

If anyone could lend me a hand with this that would be great.

P.S the drives I want to make a log of are Server Destinations so i can monitor their disk space daily.

free disk space in one of B KB MB GB

( Truncated to 3 decimal places. )

example:
[C:\Program Files\JPSoft\TCCLE13x64]df c
383.848 GB Free on c:

If you would like to try it, it is free and may be downloaded from my page here:

Edit: you can use command line redirection to output to a file.
For example to append the result to test.txt you can do
df c: >>test.txt

Edit2: You may specify more than one drive on the line.
Example:
[C:\Program Files\JPSoft\TCCLE13x64]df c e
383.848 GB Free on c:

Question: command line

Dear TS,

Currently I am working in access, fine tuning a little database.
In this little proggie I have made a button that directly links to a .bat-file that does nothing but open the folder H:/foto (Dutch)

In that folder are several kinds of criminal offenses.

It works like this for the user:

They click the photo-button, the folder opens and they will find by manual search the picture corresponding to the crime report. the pictures in that folder are ordered in sub-categories for a clear view.

What I'd d like to achieve is that the security-officials ONLY type something like "stepped on no-stepping-on-grass-sign" in a text bar and that they then click the photo-button and the H:/foto/stepped on no-stepping-on-grass-sign folder opens.

I know the idea of typing (part of a) directory and then press a button is just as lame as just viewing a folder that has only 25 sub folders anyway, but it's just what the security-officials want...

Thank you very much for your attention and help,

sincerely,

Meneer Geerts.

Question: DEL command line

If I have created a new folder on my C: file and named it: "Odd Bods" for example.

Using the DEL Command Prompt in XP, what is the exact syntax to forcibly delete it?

I have tried by opening the Command Prompt and typing in "CD \" then enter to bring up the cursor "C:\>". Then I have typed: "Del /F Odd Bods" and "enter". The message then comes up; "Are you sure? y/n". I then type: "y" and enter, but the folder is not deleted.

Help!

Answer:DEL command line

If folder is on desktop:

Start
Run
Enter 'cmd /k' (no quotes)
Enter 'cd\' (will get you the C:\ prompt)
Enter 'cd\Documents and Settings\{your user name}\Desktop'
Enter 'dir /w'

If you can see the item, Enter 'erase [filename]'

del [filename] also works - for a directory (maybe folders too) RD [directory] works

edit: if you do the Start, run, cmd /k thing then type 'help' you'll get a list of the limited MSDOS commands remaining in the poor excuse for DOS XP supports.

For details on those, type, for example, 'help del' and you'll get the possible options.

I was given a laptop to try an repair. None of the applications would open, it either asked how you want to open it or say no application found. After several tries I was able to do a virus scan. Couple Trojans and virus. Still no change in laptop. I googled the question and found someone asking a question with similar problem & was told to download this scan. I figured I had nothing to lose the laptop wasn't working so I outsmarted the virus & downloaded the program... After downloading, it needed to reboot. but before I allowed it to reboot I noticed the applications suddenly working... Rebooted & scanned. Its came up with 4 Trojans, 4 viruses & over 200 accounts of spyware. To remove them was $40 with $30 mail in rebate... My friend suggested that what I had downloaded was one of those scams that give you the Trojan & make you think they are getting rid of it for a price. They suggested I do a killdisk to wipe out the HDD and reinstall the OS.
Killdisk worked, it says I need to do a FDISK & FORMAT before I can download the new OS. I can't figure out how to do that. I get a blank black screen with a curser but it won't take any code. I have tried downloading the OS (windows XP) and it says it can't find any hard disk drives.

What am I doing wrong?

Question: Command Line Help

Hey, can anyone help me. I am trying to make a File using CMD edit which could dump all the tasks running. I can?t figure the code; I got "tasklist" part but then....
So I am a little lost, :dead: well actually I have no idea what I am doing . And while you are at it, can someone recommend me a program which has all the command lines and what they do. Or even those "click a command" programs (if there is one). Thanks.

(for the :suspiciou "why do I want it" folks, well I would copy the file on my USB disk drive, take it to the cafe down below and see which programs they are running - there is this program which, when I type "Patch" in the internet explorer shuts it down and so I am not able to download all those Quake, Farcry, Doom, Painkiller, Halflife and etc. patches which improve performance and add a little more game play. Then I would make another file which would shutdown those processes. Hope I am not confusing you guys.)

I recently installed new software that requires adding a command line to allow the software to restart and configure itself at start up. The manufacturer, who hasn't responded to my e-mail gives instructions to automatically load this software already configured by using the "command line". I'm using XP Pro. I believe that it's the last line below that needs to be loaded but my question is how do I so this. Here are the manufacturers instructions.
Usage:
VSPEmulator.exe <config file path> <options>
Config file is a special file with extension ".vspe" that can be created using VSPE "Save as..." command.
Options are additional parameters that can be passed to VSPE to manage its basic behavior.
-minimize : minimize VSPE dialog
-hide_splash : do not show splash window
Example:

Execute VSPE and automatically load configuration file
VSPEmulator.exe c:/config_files/main.vspe

Execute, load configuration file, hide splash and minimize VSPE
VSPEmulator.exe c:/config_files/main.vspe -minimize -hide_splash

Question: AOL Command Line?

Foolishly signed up for AOL broadband (out of sheer laziness, I really should have known better!) and have found their online help to be a bit hazy in the area of commandline/batch commands.

What I want to be able to do is exit AOL, confirm my exit, exit AOL communicator (the nearest thing to POP3 that AOL offer) and shut down a few other programs I use all at once by means of a batch file.

Any ideas whether this is doable (the batch side of things I'm happy with, just the AOL command line stuff I'm not sure on).

Thanks guys.

does win xp by default keep a log of command line commands executed?

i'm looking for a list of commands executed during the current windows session, but not the current command.com session (i.e. I closed the command prompt window, but haven't logged out)

also: does win xp keep a log of ftp transfers done by the built-in ftp command line utility?

Thanks much!

Answer:Log Of Command Line?

No to both. I'm unaware of an easy way to do this, preferring to save my sessions with the screen capture utility and pasting it into MSPaint.

I've been messing around with the ftp program in Windows XP's command prompt, and I've got something odd happening.

I uploaded a copy of AVG to my own website so I wouldn't have to hunt for it and so I could use this ftp program to download it. After giving the "get" command with the file name, the file downloads. But when it's done...if I go to run it, a new command prompt window opens for a split second, shows nothing, and disappears. This has happened on two different PCs now.

If I use a web browser to download the files, it works. I'm not sure what to make out of this. Could I be doing something wrong?

Answer:FTP at the command line

Sounds right, FTP is pretty simple. What is the FTP server on the other end that is dishing out the file?

Hi,

I would like to know what is the command for delete files and shortcuts on current user desktop.

Is it del C:\documents and settings\*\local settings\desktop\popup blocker stops popups.lnk?

Using winxp pro. I know it is easlier to use windows explorer but I am doing this for interest.

Thank you.

Answer:Need some help on command line pls.

You are roughly right. When you open the DOS box, it will automatically be logged on the current user's account: C:\Documents and Settings\Account Name\

from there, change to the folder where the file or shortcut is located (for example, type CD Desktop, then press [ENTER]. Then type DEL (name of file or shorcut) and press [ENTER]

For stubborn files which won't delete while Windows is running, open the DOS box then end the EXPLORER.EXE process which quits the Windows shell but leaves the DOS box open for you to issue the DEL command on the stubborn file. When done, bring up the task-manager again (CTRL-ALT-DEL), log-off then log-on to restart the Windows shell.

Not that I'm aware of, but if you click the start orb, type "cmd" (without quotes) then right-click "cmd.exe" in the search results, you can then select "Run as Administrator" (but you already knew that...)

Here is a part of the switches available to CMD.EXE (You can get more by opening a command line window, then type "CMD /?" (without quotes) and pressing <ENTER>:

Code:
C:\Users\Peter Dzomlija>cmd /?
Starts a new instance of the Windows command interpreter
CMD [/A | /U] [/Q] [/D] [/E:ON | /E:OFF] [/F:ON | /F:OFF] [/V:ON | /V:OFF]

/C Carries out the command specified by string and then terminates
/K Carries out the command specified by string but remains
/S Modifies the treatment of string after /C or /K (see below)
/Q Turns echo off
/D Disable execution of AutoRun commands from registry (see below)
/A Causes the output of internal commands to a pipe or file to be ANSI
/U Causes the output of internal commands to a pipe or file to be

Question: Command Line

Do any of you guys know how to restart a network card? (disable/enable) from the command line in windows (particularly windows server 2003). I want to create a batch script to restart this if the server can't connect to something on the internet after a certain time period.

I'm having a problem with a network card just stopping to respond for some reason and the only way I can get it to work again is to restart it that way unless i want to restart the whole server. I had this problem with another server as well. About all I can think of is either the switch is malfunctioning or i'm screwing up some sort of dns issue.

Question: DOS Command Line

Hi there-

Just reorganising my Library and for reasons I won't bore you with, need to do some mass amendments to Filenames to get rid of extraneous Info as I'm tight on Space.

So, for instance, I have a Folder (DIRectory) with one hundred PDF, Mobi, RAR, ZIP, CBR and CBZ files in it all with filenames in the following format :-

Henry Rider Haggard (Victorian Novelist, Africa Hand) [Title of Short Story/Novel/Graphic Novel].???

As :-

a) I do happen to know who H Rider Haggard is (having read my first book of his 55 years ago when I was Ten)
b) All the Files are going to go into a Directory (Folder) Entitled "Henry Rider Haggard" (in case I suddenly get struck down with Oldtimer's disease)

then I want to get rid of the words "Henry Rider Haggard (Victorian Novelist, Africa Hand)" which is common to every Filename.

My latest attempt at a Command Line blanket change from within the Folder (Directory) was the DOS command -

REN "Henry Rider Haggard (Victorian Novelist, Africa Hand)"*.??? *.???

I have also tried :-

Using the different extensions (.CBR .ZIP .RAR etc ) to change them 20 or 30 at a time
Using the same Format but *.* instead of *.???
Using no Inverted Commas on the part of the Description that I want to get rid of

Yes, I DO realise that in the time I have spent fiddling about with Command Line and composing this Post I COULD have done the whole thing Manually, BUT I have Sixty Five separate Authors to create Directories (Folders)... Read more

Answer:DOS Command Line

There is no such thing as Dos. Dos went the way of the Dodo bird, after 98 died. You have a Command window, that you can do certain things in. But what you are wanting to do, I am lost. It sounds like you are telling a story, not asking a question.

If you want to change a file name, you do it from Explorer in the Desktop. If you want to edit a file, you do it from what ever program was used to create the file.

f you right click on the program icon, and look in properetoes, you will se an entry for Target. This is basically the command to start the program - it probably has quotes at the start and end on the entry. You add the command line modification after a space, after the end of the command line - but before the final quotes.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.com

Answer:Command Line won't work

Q:
After updating to XP Service Pack 2 when I go to install some programs I get a message that says, "The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications." What's going on?

A:
For some reason the installation of SP2 can cause a file called "AUTOEXEC.NT" to be corrupted or deleted. This file is part of the Windows 16-bit subsystem and usually lives in the system32 folder.

What's happening when you get this error is that the setup for that program uses InstallSheild which is a 16-bit program. Since the AUTOEXEC.NT file is missing, it can't run the install program. Not everyone who installs SP2 will have this problem, but we've had several calls and emails about it.

Fortunately there is a backup of the file living on your hard drive.

Double click "My Computer" then your hard drive (probably C drive) and open the "WINDOWS" folder.

Open "SYSTEM32" and see if the "AUTOEXEC.NT" file is in there. Chances are it isn't. If it is, then it's probably corrupt. Arrow up or hit "Back" to return to the main WINDOWS folder.

Go down to "Repair" and double click. You should find "autoexec.nt" and "config.nt" in there. Copy these files (Ctrl+C) then go back to SYSTEM32 and paste them there (Ctrl+V). It will ask you if you want to replace the old oneŚclick "Yes".

That should do it. Now try installing t... Read more

It was recently brought to my attention that at times Windows Messenger was secretly running and I never even knew it. I didn't realize this until one day when I was doing computer work offline my Instant Messengers ... a window suddenly popped up in my face ... "hey Dan" ... it was my friend.

I was quite outraged that my computer was secretly online to Windows Messenger without me knowing about it. So I set out to delete Windows Messenger completely off my computer altogether.

So I went to Google and searched. Most of the techniques all wanted to me to open my command line and access strings and such from within there.

Well still to this day I have never been in my own command line because it is malfunctioning.

I click Start ... then Run ... I type CMD ... a black box appears and then dissapears within 1 second. I cannot click on it within that timeframe or else it simply just dissapears faster.

I was told to come here and post my problem because it may be a virus or the remains of a virus infecting the application. So I ran all the scans and downloaded all those programs. I have attached my log below.

However I had only one problem with the 5 steps. Step 2 I believe it is ... running anti-virus scans.

When I would try to click the links ... they would eventually give me an error sign saying essentially that Norton 2005 does not support the "Repair" feature ... and to please uninstall and then reinstall. The moment I'd click OK it ... Read more

Hello!!!

Apologies on the delay.......

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

The first thing I would like to do is have you close and disable Spybot's TeaTimer. It may interfere with some of our fixes. We can restore it whewn we are done.

When I am at the command line prompt (in Recovery Console), I see this:

C:\WINDOWS>

Okay, so, when I typed:

C:\WINDOWS>dir C:\

it listed all of the folders inside my C: drive... Some of my folders have names like "My Music" <-- with a space between "My" and "Music"...and others just have names like "Windows" and "Pictures", etc. with no spaces in the folder names...

Here's the thing... Everytime I type to see inside a folder without a space in the name, like this:

C:\WINDOWS>dir C:\Pictures

I get to see everything inside the folder, but when I type a folder with a space in it, like:

C:\WINDOWS>dir C:\My Music

it does not recognize the name! but it showed that it was there on the C: drive!

How do I represent a space for a folder name, without actually using a space?? It never seems to recognize the folders with spaces in their names... :suspiciou

When I moved into XP from my computer I really didn't like Documents and Settings XP uses, so I created a My Documents in my root directory, similar to what Win98SE uses.

Nowadays I'm running some software that needs the Command line as a equivalent to DOS, and I ran into an odd problem.

My Documents folder seems to be invisible to the Command line. I could not enter the folder using the Command line at all. I solved the problem by renaming the folder to Bills Documents, but it is kinda odd.

Is there an attribute I'm missing somewhere? Thanks.

You can use the sc.exe command to start, stop, configure, and manage various aspects of services in the same way that you can on earlier versions of Windows. On Windows Vista, however, the sc.exe command has been enhanced with new command-line switches.
New switches for specifying required privileges for a service include: -privs Sets the required privileges for a service. -qprivs Queries for the required privileges of a service.
New switches that support per-service SIDs include: -sidtype Changes a service?s SID. -qsidtype Retrieves the setting for service?s SID.
New switches to enable configuration of the FailureActionsOnNonCrashFailures setting include: -failureflag Changes the setting of the FailureActionsOnNonCrashFailures flag. -qfailureflag Retrieves the setting for the FailureActionsOnNonCrashFailures flag. -showsid Displays the service SID string corresponding to an arbitrary name. -stop This is an old setting that has been enhanced in Windows Vista to specify the stop reason. This enables postmortem reliability analysis to find out reasons (by examining the event logged by the SCM with the stop reason) an administrator would stop a service.
For more information about these new command-line switches for sc.exe, type sc /? at a command prompt.

(The file is placed in 'Send to').
If I use the following code:
for %%* in (.) do set CurrentFolder=%%~n* "C:\Program Files\WinRar\WinRar" a -afzip "%CurrentFolder%.xpi"
The file name is that of the current folder (correct).
All files are archived whether I select one file or multiple files (wrong).
Selected folders are not archived (wrong).
If I use the following code:
set file=%~f1 "C:\Program Files\WinRar\WinRar" a -afzip "%file:~0,-4%.xpi" "%1"
The file name is that of the file on which I right click (correct).
Only that file is archived even if multiple files are selected (wrong).

How can I know if a single item is selected or more?
What's the condition syntax?
How can I include folders in the archive?
Thank you.

I found a lot of good answers in this site while searching for my problem but couldn't find specifically what I wanted. I'm also very rusty when it comes to switches and command line controllers, etc.

I don't know how many of you use uTorrent, but I use it to download my TV shows because I cannot afford cable. I have it running on a Windows 7 Server and it is hooked up directly to my TV. I have XBMC running to catalog everything for me and makes it easy to access.

The only problem that I've had this whole time is the long process of having to individually extract every episode after it's done downloading. uTorrent has a function in which it can run a program after the torrent has been downloaded. A lot of people mentioned that it's possible to call WinRAR through the command line or even create a batch file that gets called once the torrent downloads, looks for any *.001/*.rar files and extracts them in the same directory. Except, I have no clue how to write that. However, I can provide you with information that uTorrent provides:

In the "Run Program" section of the Torrent Properties when downloading, it offers 3 commands that can be used:

%F - Name of Downloaded File
%D - Directory where files are saved.
%N - Title of torrent

I'm guessing that the %D is going to be our lead. From what I wrapped around my head, here's the pseudo code of what i'm trying to do:

I don't know if unrar is registered under sys... Read more

I am working through a FBI virus notebook running Windows 7.

Using Kickstart I know which files I need to remove.

The file is "skype.dat" in the App Data\Roaming folder.

When I go into command prompt from the Repair Console the App data folder is hidden.

I'm currently trying the shards attribute but I'm getting alot of "access denied" reports from tmp files. I can't tell if it's endlessly looping or if it has yet to run through the entire folder.

Is there another way to get into this folder? I've done this process several times before but this is the first time I've been unable to access the App Data folder. There isn't a password set for the user.

I remember now that I'm signed on as the user...I've no idea if it's an admin account or not. I'll try to access another account and work at it from that angle.

My question is this: What would the proper DOS command be to make hidden folders visible? Not just visible but also to manipulate them and the files within? Is the -s-h-a-r/d/s the only way?

Answer:Solved: Command line help!!!

EDIT: Figured it out. Thanks anyway.

Hi,i use a 24 hours time clock under my windows OS.if i use a command line like the following ones:Code: [Select]set t=%time%
set tm=%t:~0,2%%t:~3,2%%t:~6,2%
and time is 09:52:38 in the morning, the %t% will be equal to " 9:52:38".instead of that i would like to get "09:52:38", so the hours with a 0 in front of them.how can i do that ?thanks a lot,A.

Answer:command line to get time with 0

1. Use string replacement to change all spaces in %tm% to zeroes. In fact there will only ever be one space, at the start, when the hour is 0 to 9.Code: [Select]@echo off
set t=%time%
set tm=%t:~0,2%%t:~3,2%%t:~6,2%
set tmzero=%tm: =0%
echo      t = "%t%"
echo     tm = "%tm%"
echo tmzero = "%tmzero%"Output...Code: [Select]     t = " 8:32:14.07"
    tm = " 83214"
tmzero = "083214"Alternatively...2. Maybe you prefer to test if the first character (offset 0) of %tm% is a space, and if it is, make a new string composed of a zero character and the characters of %tm% from position 2 (offset 1) to the endCode: [Select]@echo off
set t=%time%
set tm=%t:~0,2%%t:~3,2%%t:~6,2%
if "%tm:~0,1%"==" " set tmzero=0%tm:~1%
echo      t = "%t%"
echo     tm = "%tm%"
echo tmzero = "%tmzero%"
Output...Code: [Select]     t = " 8:41:39.75"
    tm = " 84139"
tmzero = "084139"Alain, since your name sounds like you are French or at least francophone. I would like to tell you that although I am rosbif de chez rosbif, I am a big fan of a French rock group called INDOCHINE. Have you heard of them?

I had that problem once. It may have been dragged to the far right so it is not visible. If you unlock the toolbar (right-click, unlock) then try dragging any toolbars back on from the side.

Question: Command Line Error

Hi everyone,

I have setup my computer so that I can develop programmes using commands like ./configure and make. However, although make works with the command line (cmd.exe), ./configure will not. I always recieve the following message:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>./configure
'.' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Is there some way that I can have the command line recognize such a command?

Thankyou for your help.

Edit: How can I delete this message? First posts cannot be removed...

Question: unzip command line

I found a program called unzip.exe. This program works well for unzipping files via a batch file. My question is does anybody know of a way via unzip.exe or any other unzip program with will append the zip name as a folder? I.E. If I want to extract abc.zip to C:\zip. I want it to extract C:\zip\abc

Answer:unzip command line

Save this as batunzip.bat for example.
Then to unzip, use batunzip add.zip
Don't know which unzip program you found, so have no idea of how the command line should be set.
Just substitute %1 for the file name to be unzipped, and %DEST% for the output folder name.
If the unzip program can create the output folder, the 2nd line isn't needed.

Code:
Set DEST=C:\zip\%~n[COLOR=Red]1[/COLOR]
If not Exist "%DEST%" MD "%DEST%"
unzip "%~[COLOR=Red]1[/COLOR]" "%DEST%"
The 1 is a numeral one, not a lower case L

Answer:Command line games

You mean in the olden time when we use to play game in dos mode or window mode.Well java (not javascript) will probaly let you do it but is best to use Visual Basic C++ to build them and the file probably will be .exeThe easy way to make a good graphical game is Flash using Action Script

Edit: I finally found what I was looking for. RamStatus is the tool that helped me out.

I received a Fujitsu Amilo, 80GB notepad running WinXP.

I'm trying to partition the disc into 4v20GB drives. NOw I have tried to use the Windows Doc Management facility - it does not work! You know, when you right click on the Primary partion (there is one only partition shown - 79GB) but, previously with previous computers, when you right click, the sub-menu that appears has a 'make new partition' selection. With this computer, when I right click, that selection is greyed out and unavailable. Now I must explain that the suppliers of this computer did not supply the original Windows didk but rather what they call a 'Recovery disk' What I assume is that this 'Recovery' disk does not supply the partitioning facility.
Anyway, so I tried to partition using the command line and the 'diskpart' command. Everything worked fine until I get to the final command where you enter what you want? This is my problem - how exactly do you enter the command?

I checked the Windows Help facility and entered 'create partition logical 20GB

but then received a list of commands to be used with 'diskpart'

I then tried 'create partition logical 20'

and back came the list

and the same thing happened with 'create logical drive size 20

and with 'create logical drive [size 20]

Could someone please tell me what I should type - or do - for me to create four partitions on my hard drive of sizes 20GB; 20GB; 20GB and whateve... Read more

Answer:Partition - using command line

Welcome,

You have Operating System on that Hard drive already?

Hi

I originally posted in the software forum asking why I couldn't access the command line. I was redirected to this forum and followed the instructions for removing malware. This appears to have solved my problem but I would appreciate if someone could check the attached files to confirm I have no further issues.

Many thanks

Ok so how do I write a program or script to automate command line functions. Example being I want a shortcut to open the command line and run "ipconfig /all"

Yeah it's stupid simple but eventually I'd like to expand this to automate further functions.

Knowledge... C++.

Answer:How do I automate command line?

Every command parser on every OS allows for some level of scripting. On Windows you can use a batch file, on Linux, Mac OS X, BSD, and others you can use a Bash script file. In both cases the files are basically lists of commands to carry out as if you were typing them one-at-a-time into the command line.
