RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage? Will high CPU usage damage CPU?

Question: RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage? Will high CPU usage damage CPU?

Hi folks

I posted this problem at Spyware Specific forum, but was advised to post here.

Recently when I use RealProducer Plus v.10 to convert mpeg2 clips to rmvb, it takes a long time to do so. When I checked, RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage - as much as 94-95%, causing total CPU usage to be 95-98%. I have scanned with Norton and Adaware - all ok. Then I used Spy Sweeper - it found and cleared Csmin. Howveer, the problem still remains when I use RealProducer.

CPU usage without using RealProducer

CPU usage using RealProducer

Will my CPU will be damaged if CPU usage is so high?

Please help to take a look at my .exe processes. Are they OK?
What is PQV2iSvc.exe?

Please advise. Thanks a lot!

Preferred Solution: RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage? Will high CPU usage damage CPU?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage? Will high CPU usage damage CPU?

To answer your question about PQV2iSvc.exe is part of Power Quest drive image and Norton Ghost drive backup software.

Converting video formats can be a resource intensive process. Unless your system temps are getting really high there shouldn't be any damage to the CPU.

This is not a malware related problem. Sounds like standard operating procedure for doing conversions like this. You really should talk about this in the Software Forum but it sounds normal to me.

Hello everyone, I've been having a very weird problem recently, in which I BELIEVE is involving high physical memory usage. Sometimes I will be doing things such as playing a game, or watching a stream, and my computer will run fine for a little while. But at random times, my computer will majorly slow down and sometimes even crash. If it doesn't crash, sometimes it will get so slow to the point where I have to hold down the power button and manually shut it down. Every time my computer slows down I notice it is using a TON of physical memory. It's actually happening right now. My computer is going very slow and it's using 6.22 GB memory out of 8. There are no big programs running right now, so I don't understand why it's being slow. I hope someone is able to help. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Update: I just tried to open chrome, and the computer froze completely. It would not unfreeze. After leaving it frozen for a minute or two, the screen went black. This is becoming very frustrating.

Answer:Very high physical memory usage, no high usage programs running

Post a screenshot of Task Manager - Performance tab when the problem occurs.

Hijack log below

Two weeks ago my Quark 7 stopped working - it will start and come up with the splash screen, but then will not go any further - a list of processes shows it's running at 50 cpu usage and 78944 memory usage. I have tried uninstalling reinstalling and have ran Norton's Antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner to no avail. I have attached my HiJack log below.

The main programs that I use daily (and yes Quark is one of them) are the following

Adobe Photoshop CS3, ACDSee 9, Outlook express, Quark 7.0, Internet Explorer, Dreamweaver 8

Thank you for taking the time - I'm pretty frustrated!

Greetings,

I formatted my computer, and after installing windows 7 again, my physical memory in task manager is very high, and cpu keeps jumping up and down.

I looked at the processes tab, but noticed absolutely nothing taking abnormal memory (private working set.) Then moved on to performance tab> resource monitor, and found svchost (I think it was netsvcs in parenthesis,) hogging all the memory. After ending the process, I still have had high memory usage, and surprisingly, do not see a process anywhere in task manager with high numbers next to it, so I have no idea what's happening.

I have noticed that my windows 7 folder keeps increasing in size, currently about 26 gigs, and a helper told me that it's normal because the updates in windows 7 have a different compression method than windows 8 and after, however when I had previously installed windows 7, fully updated... my folder size was normal, so I assume it can be done?

I originally posted in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs section, however I did not find malware on my computer, so unless it's very new malware, I am certain windows 7 is causing this problem.

For antivirus, I am currently using a free trial of Norton.

Advice?

P.S. This is probably better for the hardware section, but can constant high physical memory, and cpu usage ruin my hardware? I am avoiding using things that take up high cpu and memory right now, and it's currently about 1.2 g... Read more

Hi,
I have a i7 3770k at 3.9 ghz, so stock with turbo boost.
I tried oc'ing to 4.5 ghz, didnt fix the problem.
Basically, in some games i get high cpu usage and at the same time low gpu usage.
My system is i7 3770k, gtx1070, 16 gb ddr3 ram, corsair hx850i psu.
In witcher 3 novigrad, which is cpu heavy, i sometimes get gpu usage at like 70% which causes stutter, at the same time cpu usage is around 85%.
When i leave town i get 95-99% gpu usage again and my cpu usage drops.
Dying light same, if cpu usage is high my gpu usage drops.
Battlefield 1 is normally fine in 95-99% gpu usage, except st quentin, but others reported this too.
What can this be? My cpu shouldnt be bottlenecking. Like i said i trid overclocking, didn't help.
nvcp is set to prefer maximum performance and i'm playing at 1440p 144hz.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Just yesterday I realized that my computer was acting super slowly and I even received a blue screen of death out of nowhere. Upon checking my processes list,I found many suspicious processes that continued to multiply when I tried to end them. These included: PresentationHost.exe, msdtc.exe, dllhost.exe, prevhost.exe, cmd.exe, msiexec.exe, conhost.exe, and even a notepad.exe that seems to be invisible. A malware is most likely behind this, and is causing my computer to perform very slowly and be almost unusable, I have managed to run FRST, but Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not even opening for me. In addition, this multiplying issue seems to only occur when I am connected to the internet. I would highly appreciate some help!

Recently my computer has been plagued by High CPU and general malware. I believe i've removed most of the malware. But I can't seem to fix the issue with the dllhost.exe and multiple explorer.exe running.

First i ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit. Found lots of issues. all resolved. Ran them recently again and no malware was found. Still have the explorer.exe issue though.

Then I used combofix, but it changed nothing.

In the meanwhile i've just been ending the explorer.exe processes that take high CPU. This allows me to temporarily use my computer before they start popping up again.

Ok, I am literally KILLING myself over this!

I installed Windows 7 64Bit over XP around a month ago and it was so good that I recommended it to my brother who was previously on XP too. We got him a copy of the 32bit version as he has only 2gb of memory, and he installed it on his machine. However, he constantly had high CPU and RAM usage (Even though no programs were obviously taking it all up in his task manager) and it was making his computer sluggish and slow. Everything was freezing and hanging and it was a nightmare.

I spent a day looking all over the net to find out the problem, but could not fix it at all, no matter what the hell I tried. So he reverted back to Windows XP. (A nice waste of money on Windows 7.) His Windows XP now runs smoothly and is all as it was.

Suddenly today, after my brother connected to my Windows 7 homegroup (or workgroup rather) through his Windows XP machine, my computer got the EXACT same problem as he had ages ago! I have been browsing Google all day downloading s**t, changing things in my computer, trying EVERY possible fix that people have suggested and that sound legit. Nothing works!

So now all of a sudden, my computer is sluggish, games are jumpy and jittery, video rendering times are slooooooow.

Here is a picture of my resource monitor:
You can see the physical memory usage being at 45%. I've ordered the memory usage of each service in highest to lowest.
I just CANT see where the problem is!
(I've tried leaving my homegroup to see... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 random CPU usage and high physical memory usage!!!

I can tell you what is probably causing your problems. AVG.
When you are looking at memory, do not sort by Working set, sort by Hard faults.
Hard faults is what causes things to slow down. Plus you have plenty of memory not to worry about usage.

Hi,

I just bought my brand new laptop and have loaded Vista Ultimate 32bit onto it for about 5 days. I noticed something unusual about Vista's CPU usage while idle in the task manager as well as the Resource monitor.

I have attached two pictures to show my problem. Notice that my CPU usage is always at about 40-60% on both of my cores. However, the average CPU usage per process shows that it should actually occupy about 15% to at most 20% (by adding up all the highest average CPU for processes in the first picture). The second picture I attached shows the current CPU usage sorted by max usage, and again it does not add up to 41%!

Although at 40-60% usage, I do not notice any major performance impacts, as both cores are not loaded to the max. However, I do notice Vista chewing up more battery than needed when I have my laptop running off batteries. Because the max frequency for the processor would always need to be raised to around 60% even when idle (instead of say... 10-20%).

I have searched online for various problems relating to high CPU usage, and most of the responses are about tracing down which process is the culprit. Well, this is where I'm stumped because it all does not add up! According to the process view, everything is normal but my system resources are still get constantly chewed up by something invisible it seems.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point!

Answer:Vista Ultimate 32: high CPU usage does not correspond with process usage

Posting two more image to show this problem from the task manager...

Notice that the system idle process is 84, and yet CPU usage is 42? I always thought that:
CPU usage + idle process = 100?

Perhaps things are done differently with dual core processors? This is my first dual core so I'm not sure. The second image shows how both my cores are being used roughly equally, at around 50%.

Hi all, hope you can help.

Every so often, when listening to online radio streams/playing games etc my computer just goes crazy. I get a lot of hard drive 'chatter' and lots of fan noise and everything slows to a crawl. My music will start jumping and skipping and there is a long delay between me clicking the mouse and the action happening. It happens when no other programs (for example, my AV/AS) are due to scan. When I look at my Task Manager the two biggest eaters of memory usage are fm.exe (game, it normally eats a load but makes no substantial difference to the comp speed) and ekrn.exe (something to do with my AV, not quite sure what it actually does though)

I am running Windows MCE SP3 and am using NOD32 anti-virus and Sunbelt CounterSpy anti-spyware. The definitions on both are updated daily and both scan daily. I have also defragged the comp and do so weekly. The other programs I use are CCleaner and Glary Utilities, both fairly regularly to clean up my comp when I was working as an internet researcher, but less often now.

I do not get any error messages/BSOD's or actual freezes. Everything just slows right down. Could I have picked up a form of malware/virus that my AV/AS isn't picking up? Could one of my previous spring cleans have been too aggressive? Or is it simply too much load for my comp (2 year old Dell)? It is 3MHz, 1G RAM, kinda your bog standard media comp from 2007.

Your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated as it's starting ... Read more

My friend, who has a very low income was given a Dell Optiplex GX240 running Win2K Pro. 512MB RAM

To help her out, I got rid of porn, viruses, and spyware using:

Ad-Aware, AVG spyware and AV free versions, Trend Micro House Call, Spybot

I checked the task manager, and has constant 100% CPU usage, avg memory usage

The system runs, but apps open slow, so I tried some freeware reg cleaners:

CCleaner, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, Wise Registry cleaner

After hours of searching on web, the fixes I found don't work, so I give up. Can someone help. My friend doesn't have the money to pay someone to fix this, and she was so happy to get a new computer.

Hi,
I have a i7 3770k at 3.9 ghz, so stock with turbo boost.

Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

I have been having a big problem the last week with my computer. Everything is running incredibly slow. I opened the windows task manager, and it has shown very high CPU usage, often fluctuating between 80% and 100%, though sometimes staying between about 5-20%. The page file usage has been conistently high, the lowest being in the mid-600 kbs, while most often staying around 720 or 730 kbs. These patterns seem to be unaltered by the amount of programs I have running (the problem occurs even when there are absolutely no programs running) or whether I'm on the internet or not. I am very ignorant when it comes to computers, but I suspected it was some sort of spyware problem. However, after scanning with Norton 360, Spybot's Search and Destroy, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, and Microsoft Defender, only a few low-level threats showed up, and fixing them led to no improvement in my computer's performance. The slow functioning seems to be directly related to the times when the CPU usage is high.

My OS is Microsoft XP. My processor is 1.73 GHz. I have 504 MB of RAM. I will attach my HijackThis log below. I hope I haven't forgotten any necessary information, but I would appreciate any help you can offer. I'm becoming very frustrated.

I'm running Win XP, and I was downloading some software over the last few days for popup blockers, and I downloaded Yahoo Blocker, Google Blocker, and then ran AdAware 6 [which I've since removed to get Ad Aware SE].

Anyway, I'm having very high CPU usage, and High Memory Usage in the Windows Task Manager. I keep closing dostask.exe because it keeps using nearly 90-100% of the CPU, and it keeps maxing out my memory which is 1/2 Gig.

When I start the machine, the system runs fine, but then it begins to climb. I close it, and it climbs again, and then repeat.

I also did a search for dostask.exe and found this file: DOSTASK.EXE-25D34F68.pf located in the F:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Any help is appreciated.

Important Note: F:\ is my main drive.

Can anyone tell me what I should do?

Answer:High CPU Usage & High Memory Usage From dostask.exe

You need to find out what is starting that dostask.exe and either remove it (if it's not something you use) or change the settings (if it's something you use). Read the stickied thread for more info.

So, it's exactly as the title says,
I downgraded back down to windows 8 after feeling some sluggishness with my windows 10 OS.
It started off fine, but once I started downloading and installing necessary windows update files, I noticed once again the sluggishness I felt before, except this time my System Disk which is also my SSD drive, was being used up to 100% while my CPU was completely fine

Can someone please help me out in this scenario.

Hi, In November I purchased a new Lenovo Y50. It's the non-touch 1080p version with the GTX960m. Recently, I've had issues with the fans spinning up while the laptop is idle. I opened task manager, and there are random spikes of 100% disk usage on startup and sometimes when I leave the machine idle or I'm using Chrome. Recently, I've noticed strange spikes in CPU usage too, with occasional bouts of 20% usage for seemingly no reason.  I contacted support, and they weren't able to find any issues, but had me install Lenovo Solution Center and do a full run of the tests, which didn't find anything wrong. They also had me disable all non essential startup programs and see if the problem happened again, and it does. However, cpu and disk temperatures were normal, so I was told to just monitor the problem and see if anything changes.   My system's definitely not functioning properly. Startup is notably slow considering it has the 8gb ssd and I never had issues with the fans coming on when I first got it. I've heard that there are issues with the hybrid 8gb ssd/1 tb hdd, so I need some input on this. Why is this happening? Is it a hardware issue? Firmware? My case number is 8006295558. I would greatly appreciate some help from a rep or anyone who can give me a hand with the issue.

Every time I start my computer in the morning, my CPU usage and PF usage are very high, slowing down the system, for about 45 mins to 1 hour. I have included images of the Performance Tab and Processes tab of Task Manager. The image of the Performance Meter is not a totally accurate reflection of the issue, because usually the CPU usage bounces between 60% and 100%.I am using Windows XP Home EditionVersion 2002Service Pack 3Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80 GHz1.5 GB RAMI have already used CCLeaner and Uniblue. I have scanned with MS Defender and AVG Free version. That is the current AV software I am running. I am also using Norton Ghost to maintain a backup of my computer. I want to try and fix the problem before I reformat and reload EVERYTHING.Is this a sign of spyware/malware or is my system finally too old?

Answer:CPU Usage and PF Usage very high for 45 mins after startup

One more thing. Networking is always at or close to zero.

So I've been dealing with high CPU usage and physical memory usage for a while now and was wondering if anyone could help. I've been looking at windows task manager and I think I've found the culprit. I rebooted my computer just to make sure and I believe its one of the 12 svchost.exe processes running on my computer. When the computer rebooted it was fine but then after some minutes that process shot up to as much as 1,000,000k in physical memory usage right now its around 705,148k. I assume that there is my problem but I am not exactly sure so I was wondering if anyone here could help me out. Thanks.

Answer:High CPU usage and memory usage

Make sure all drivers are up to date. etc
Use Process Explorer to pin point the actual problem.

I have just reformatted my laptop and it has Windows XP sp2 running on it.

The problem i am facing is that after a while of running, it will slow down and hang, often resulting with a blue screen. When i run my pc again, i took a look at the task manager and found that my cpu usage shoots up to 100% whenever i run somethin.

And the numbers for the mem usage is also very high. i.e: 20,976 K for iexplorer.exe

Plz help and sorry if my english is a bit bad, it is not my first language.

Hi.
I was using my laptop a few days ago. I left to go out and came back about an hour later. I notice my CPU usage was running @ 100% & the memory @ 80%.My laptop just stopped. I went into safe mode and that is where I am currently . I have deleted almost everything I don't use(didn't mind).I've even gone to msconfig to check off things i don't use.The initial response was good.CPU usage dropped, but as soon as I used the internet, rebooted or used an Icon everything that I discontinued in msconfig would be checked again.I did this several times.
I ran Iobit Advance system care w/ everything that it possess & ran Spyhunter all in safe mode.It did'nt come up with much.I am currently Googling for anything that match my criteria. There are a few but no good remedies. I don't have a backup disk to use to restore or else I would have tried.I am looking for any good advice. I hope that i dont have to replace the processor or the memory. I mostly use this laptop for games, emails, social media, and searches. Please help. Thanks

Answer:Have high CPU usage and Memory usage

Check in Resource Monitor which processes are using the CPU and RAM.

First off, I have been advised to start a new thread in this forum, as a previous thread in a different forum, from this site, regarding this issue was not completely resolved. See link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/318854/physical-memory-increases-to-98-over-a-few-days/Here's what's happening. Upon booting up, it seems to take a bit too long to even to get to the Vista logo; then, when booted up, the harddrive seems to be running constantly for about an hour or so, yet nothing is loading;lastly, when the computer is on for a few days at a time, the physical memory seems to increase, eventually getting to anywhere from 75% to 90+%, yet I don't have to use the computer to do this - it can just be on and maybe just have Outlook running.Specs:OS: Vista Home Premium SP2 (x64)Processor: Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9300 2.5GhzRAM: 4GbFree Space: 244Gb free/465Gb total

There is a serious issue with svchost.exe on my windows 7 computer. My HP Touchsmart 300-1025 has windows 7 64bit installed and svchost is slowing down the computer and using very high cpu and memory usage. It is not a virus or malware. I know the computer is not infected because one the computer has webroot and two if it was a virus or malware I would not be able to use the computer at all. So it has to be an issue with windows 7 64bit itself. Here is a screenshot of what I'm talking about and proof.

What do I do to take care of this.? Norton anti- virus keeps giving me a Performance alert, & I simply don't know what to do...Can you help me.?I'm stumped.!!!!

Answer:High Memory Usage, & High CPU usage

The thing to do is use Task Manager ( right click on task bar at bottom of the screen, and choose Task Manager ). Then click on the Processes tab, click on the CPU column header so it sorts the rows by cpu usage. So now you will see the processes that use a lot of cpu.

If you are using Vista, or Windows 7; pull down the View menu, choose 'select columns' and then checkmark 'command line'. Then each row will give the location of the program on the hard drive.

During the DVD encoding, my CPU usage is peaked at 100%.The process can take a minimum 30 minutes to a maximum 2 hours.

I am concerned that the CPU will be damaged and lead to a meltdown (read it somewhere). The AMD Athlon 1.2ghz CPU is using the stock fan that came along.
1) How long is it okay for the cpu usage to stay at 99-100%?
2) Should I get a new CPU fan that blows crazy amount of air?
3) Or should I invest in a new Athlon XP cpu (money is short)?

I like to continue using this outdated cpu if possible.

WHY hasn't someone invented this extension yet ???
Whaaat!!  225 tabs??   Methinks therein lies your problem.  Maybe you are expecting too much from an extension too.  It's not the job of an extension to monitor system resources.

How do you know if you have monitor damage? I replaced a G-Force 32mg graphics card with an ATI 256mg Pro card and the instructions said to certify that the optimal monitor refresh rate and resolution are the same as the graphics card configuration otherwise damage can occur with the monitor. The monitor is set up for 1680/1050 60hz. I ran it on 60hz but then something like 960/720 for a while. I never did gaming on it. Now there is a noticeable blemish on the monitor screen when viewing the desktop that wasn't there initially. What do you think? The monitor is still under a two year warranty.

Answer:monitor damage from incorrect usage

If its under warranty and its the monitor that has the defective and not the video card then by all means return it. I'd say its pretty hard to damage an LCD by using a lower resolution, but he image quality will definitely be less then optimal.

Hi!
Recently I did a clean install of Windows 7 home premium and as soon as it completed I started noticing unreasonably high usage of RAM while having little to no CPU usage ( out of 16GB total RAM the portion that is usable jumps from 2GB to 256 MB)
I tried goofing around with the boot options in MSCONFIG and set it to use all 4 compute cores and no maximum amount of RAM. After restarting several times I seems there is permanently only 265MB of RAM usable and my PC is barely usable at this point. I'm only 15 and I have very little experience in this sort of stuff so please try to dumb it down for me. Cheers x

Answer:Very High RAM usage very low CPU usage, fix?

I got this machine to look at as it had unusually high CPU usage and the CPU fan tends to stay on high speed though the machine isn't running any applications or visible tasks- just idling. I note that it has Norton Internet Security on it with a full year subscription though I'm not a big fan of Norton or McAfee. I had some program called Internet Security 2009 in the language of German on it but used Add/Remove Programs to get rid of it- likely malware or rogue AV. I also see a CA eTrust Internet Security Suite installed in the systray though upon opening it says nothing is installed- this being after I click OK to a popup message "eTrust Security Center: calSS.exe - Unable to Locate Component - This application has failed to start because ISafeIf.dll was not found reinstalling the application may fix this problem". I don't have a copy of the application and AppRemover was unable to find it in its scan so I could remove it. Any suggestions on that one?

I have gone thru the registry and removed quite a lot of items that load at startup so the systray is pretty light now and some things have improved. I removed all of the Java and will put updated versions on after you give the "all clear". I just wanted to have some eyes on the logs to see if anything else needs to go and if someone has a suggestion of how to get this CA Security Suite off of here as I know too many of these programs is more harmful than good. As I said it's not my... Read more

You can allow RogueKiller to fix the items it found, but I am not finding any malware in your logs. I suggest you post in the software forum for further assistance.

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

About a year ago, I noticed that my computer was running slow (both online and off) and that the explorer.exe process listed in the Windows Task Manager was usually running very high. Windows Explorer seemed to crash a lot as well. A few months ago, I attempted to install Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 on my computer and before the install completed a warning window popped up saying something like 'there is already another instance of Kaspersky running' (which was not the case since this was the first time I had ever attempted to install Kaspersky software) and the install failed. When I rebooted my computer, I got the blue screen of death for a few seconds and then Windows booted with a message saying that Windows had recovered from a serious problem. Since recovering from whatever happened after the failed Kaspersky install, my computer is slower than ever and the Task Manager still shows a high CPU usage even though the System Idle Process is high and there isn't any processes listed that are using much CPU time at all.

I just scanned my system with the latest updated versions of AdAware, Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, and Avira AntiVir. All of them found nothing. I then cleaned my computer with CCleaner and ran HijackThis.

I have installed latest version of BIOS and all other drivers and installed new window 7.. Plzz help me

Answer:Satellite C660 - Constant high speed CPU fan and high usage of CPU

Hi

I think some kind of background processes stress the CPU.
You could check this in task manager-> processes tab
Click on CPU column to get the processes ordered and to show all the processes which stress the CPU.

Closing or disabling such processes can help to reduce the CPU performance.

This problem began yesterday. I noticed my CPU was at 90C constantly with very high CPU usage (>50%). I had no major programs running. I rebooted several times and the program persisted.

1. I went into safe mode and everything was normal. So this rules out hardware issues.
2. I reformatted and everything was normal..but then after installing these few programs, the problem began again.

Hello. First off, having utorrent effectively craps you out on this forum since it has a bad rep. Suggest you remove it and come back, start a new thread. That said, if you're familiar with Task Manager, check the CPU percentage on the processes tab (click CPU column to sort). This may help pinpoint which app(s) are whack.

I receive the same alert from AVG whether I am using IExplorer, Firefox or Chrome. Also, in the task manager the CPU usage is sometimes almost 50% and it's always the internet browser I have open. Computer seems a bit sluggish. I have also been having trouble viewing videos on surfline.com (but not anywhere else). I am more than happy to delete any programs you think would be adding to the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been having this problem now for an year or so now. It started when I upgraded my connection from 8/1 ADSL to 100/10 cable (so the problem wasn't noticeable even if it was there before) and when I download at high speeds (in steam, for example) my CPU usage jumps to 80% and higher, and my pc starts to stutter (mouse, audio, everything).

What makes it harder for me to track down, is that it does not happen right after I start my PC. For a good 1 to 3 hours after starting my PC I can download fine at full speed (~12MB/s) without any problems. But after my PC has been on for few hours the problem starts. When ever I download above 5MB/s (sometimes even above 3MB/s) my CPU usage goes to around 75% to 99% and everything stutters, mouse, video, audio etc.

Using Task Manager, it shows that NT Kernel & System is what is using the CPU.
Process Explorer shows Hardware Interrupts and DPCs as the cause for high CPU usage.

I've tried updating my drivers (mouse, keyboard audio, video and network drivers are up to date), but I cannot seem to find USB or hard drive drivers in case it's those that are causing it. If it's even drivers causing it.

I'm using AVG Free and ZoneAlarm.
My HDD is 7200rpm so it should be able to handle 100mb cable connection. (not 100% sure about that)

I've also noticed that my windows has set pagefile at 8190MB, even though it says 12285MB is recommended. But that might not have anything to do with the problem.

Answer:Stuttering and high CPU usage while downloading at high speeds

Hey, some thoughts,

- Is your BIOS up-to-date?
- Are you sure AVG Free and ZoneAlarm work nicely together? They used to be fine couple years ago when they were AV/Firewall but recent versions tend to cross-over. Try uninstalling one? I can't say why would the problem start after sometime though.
- Are you using Ethernet or wireless?
- How is your power options set in control panel? Try High Performance if it is not set that way already.

I guess these drivers are good for you too Latest AMD Chipset Drivers Released

My computer gets extremely slow when left on for more than a day. This started happening a few months ago and I thought I could just deal with it but it's getting pretty bad. So after a day or two, whenever I experience heavy internet usage such as downloading anything or viewing sites with large images, my computer locks up with near 100% CPU usage and it becomes inoperable until the download stops. Streaming videos isn't as bad but there's still a noticable slow-down until it's finished streaming. Even downloading something small like Panda's activescan today caused my CPU usage to spike up to the mid 80's. I'm running a dual core so it shouldn't be a problem. Oddly it only seems to be affected by internet usage -- it hardly happens when I'm playing a game.

On an unrelated note (maybe?) I keep getting a pop-up from my taskbar saying a USB device is not recognized and is malfunctioning, but all of my USB connected hardware is working perfectly. It's been going on for a while, way before the main problem started happening. It's not a problem really, just very annoying when I see it pop up every 10 minutes. Could that be a hardware issue where the connection on the motherboard got loose?

Hey All, I'm not the best with Computer Hardware I guess you could say, however I've been noticing that my H30 is using a lot of RAM even if my computer is just running Chrome, Steam and at times TeamSpeak. Right now, I'm running those programs and Skype. Task Manager says that my Memory usage is at 61%, here is a screenshot of the Memory Tab in Task Manager. http://i.imgur.com/Phj2cnH.png As I say, I'm not the best with Computer hardware and all but, should the Memory Usage really be that high, just running such a small amount of programs, it increases a lot higher when I start playing games such as Red Orchastra 2 and Grand Theft Auto V. Does anyone have any information regarding this, or suggestions. Thanks,Ben

Answer:H30 - High Memory Usage High Constantly

Hey there. That is completely normal, the Windows OS does take up some memory. However, if you feel that the computer is slow or is laggy, you can upgrade your RAM. They are typically easy to upgrade and not too expensive.

The following problem happens once/twice a day while playing Battlefield 4 (I've been spending most of these last days playing it) and started like last saturday (July 26). I'm playing Battlefield 4 (BF4) for 1 hour or so and everything is going just fine, but sometimes the game (image) starts to get really slow, losing fluidity and starts skipping, like stuttering (sorry I do not know if this is the correct english term for this phenomenon). When this starts to happen I alt+tab to the desktop, although it does take quite sometime (it gets slower than usual), and once I reach the desktop I open the Task Manager to see what is happening, this basically what I see (check images links at the end to better understand what is said next):
- RAM usage at 90% or more;
- I order the processes in a decreasing fashion and BF4 is at top but only consuming 1490MB or less of RAM;
- The rest of the processes consume less than 100MB each;
- I click on the Performance tab and see this >7GB of 7,9GB being consumed;
- I terminate the BF4 process to see what happens and the RAM goes down but still quite high ranging from 87-70% in the Processes tab, and in the Performance tab it goes down at 6,9-5,6GB of 7,9GB being consumed.

I suspect something is consuming the RAM but I can't seem to find out what is it. I even used the Process Expl... Read more

Question: CPU usage is high

I am continually getting warned by Norton that the CPU usage is high on at least one of the CPU's. I have a Compaq laptop with a 64 bit system and 4gb of memory. Although I do manipulate photos, it is not to a massive extent and I upload vidoes to youtube but not every day. I also get warnings when I am just emailing or surfing.
Has anyone got an idea of what is happening? The system is not two years old yet.

Good Evening,

I just bought an ACER Aspire X1430G and for some reason i get a high cpu usage once the computer finishes loading up. I was monitoring the cpu usage and it seems its fine at at 7% or lower but it can go as high as 80 to 90%.

Answer:High CPU usage

Dear ubaldo2003,
Hi! McAfee ! Has it come pre-loaded with the PC? It's hogging a fair bit of your resources and seems to increase the CPU usage.

Since your's is a brand new piece, i can see no further than that as the culprit! View my Task Manager results to get an idea of what Trend Micro Max. Security Suite(which came bundled along) is using (for comparison). I do not rate McAfee high when compared to even free ones like, in order of importance(IMO)
1)Avast,and
2) Avira.
These are light weight apps. and the Avast Free AV does automatic updating and comes with an Anti-spyware bundled with it! The bundled AV goodies have a running life of (?) 2 months after which you'll have to like them(buy) or lump them and go in for a new AV.
regards and best wishes.

Question: High dmw.exe usage

Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with my dwm.exe usage being ridiculously high all the time. It's usually taking up well over 1 Gig of memory (as shown in task manager). I try to end the process every so often and it drops down to more reasonable levels (60Mb or so), but is back up within a matter of minutes.

I'm not running any big programs - just chrome and maybe word
I have 3 gigs of ram
I dont think I have a virus as I have trendmicro antivirus and scan my system all the time.

So, does anyone have an idea as to why dwm usage is so high? And how I can stop it from being that way?

Thanks A Lot!
Netia

Answer:High dmw.exe usage

Hey netia1128,

I did a litle research on your behalf, and found this article that explains what the process is:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/what-is-dwmexe-and-why-is-it-running/

I would advise you to scan for malware/viruses and run a few system utilites like defragment and disk clean up.

You could try GlaryUtilities which has a few good clean up utilities and its free.
Download it here:

Hi,

Something strange happened a few months ago. Whenever I play any games or anything the CPU usage is up to 90% - 100% and this slows down the animation and the video is choppy. I checked my ping on games and it is normal. I also tried cleaning the hardware of dust. Problem is still there.. that's what leads me to believe that it is software/malware/spyware related.

Then a few days ago everything was fine and games and running smoothly. It was fine for two days. I don't know what I did to fix it, but basically i was messing around with the Windows Experience Index (control panel ---> system) and did a re-assessment of the hardware. Magically after that it was fixed. Then today it started getting choppy again.

My box:
Intel core 2 duo 2.0 ghz
2 gig RAM
Windows 7 32-bit operating system
ATI Radeon x1600xt video card
200 gig hard drive

Please let me know if you require any other information in order to assist me. Thank you in advance!

Sincerely,
jlakuma.

Answer:High CPU Usage - help pls!

First, restart your computer.

Go to C:\windows\temp and delete all the files in there.
Go to %temp% and delete the files in there. Delete the files in this (temp) folder for other users as well. I would imagine other accounts are used on your computer.

Restart your computer again

Now lets have you download and install the following two anti-virus and anti-malware software:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Scan the computer using the above software. However, do not allow malwarebytes to make changes to your registry. You can set this option under the settings tab.

Whenever I am on my computer My RAM usage is really high. More than I think I could ever use up! When I am not on an App/ Browser my RAM Usage is still above 50-60%. I also think my internet connection has something to do with it because when ever I try to load a video/website it takes more than 10minutes to load a 30 second video! Any help will be good thanks but I am not much of an Internet/Computer guru.

Answer:My RAM Usage is so High!

50-70% RAM occupation is about right. Windows is just trying to anticipate what you are going to use next and keeping it loaded in RAM so its much quicker to react. You don't want it low because then it has to go to the slower hard drive to get the info and you don't want it too full because then it swaps a lot more with the pagefile which is on the slower hard drive.

Loading video from a website is almost certainly a separate issue. First thing to check is your Internet connection speed and something that can really slow the Internet down is if you have a limited upload bandwidth and are uploading something or using a online backup service or a torrent will devastate connection speed and I've heard that it might not even be you if on a cable modem because the kid down the block might be eating up all the bandwidth with a torrent download.

Another important consideration is how does the computer respond and act running programs? Is it good then or sluggish as well when the Internet is not involved?

Question: High CPU Usage

Hi,

I recently received a used computer from a friend. It's a Gateway FX7026. It has a Core 2 Quad Q9300 (2.5 GHz) with 4 GB DDR2 RAM and an MSI GeForce N460GTX Twin Frozr II.

It had Vista Home Premium 64-bit, but I moved to Windows 8 Consumer Preview. I had this problem on both operating systems.

Everything seems to use near 100% CPU usage. This happens the majority of the time, but not always. I'm a gamer, and I first noticed it in game. I can sometimes get 60 FPS in WoW, but often I'll get 1 FPS. Sometimes I'll get a bit higher, but the audio will stutter. I also tried to play The Old Republic and got similar results.

Seeing it in two games, I assumed it had to do with the display drivers, but I'm seeing it outside of games as well. I've also tried a couple different versions of NVidia's drivers. With nothing running except Firefox or Chrome, the browser will shoot to 70% - 100% for a standard, non-Flash website. Watching YouTube is out of the question.

I tried a couple temperature monitors, but all four cores seemed fine. I'm at work currently, but they were around 45 degrees.

What could be the problem?

Note that after I first received it, I did a factory recovery. I installed very little - Firefox, Chrome, WoW, TOR, AVG Free, and Spybot S&D. I have since uninstalled AVG and performed the upgrade to Windows 8 CP.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Question: High CPU Usage

Hello,

I recently installed windows 7 for my computer and things overall are working fine but my CPU Usage is really messing with me. I was using Windows XP before and when I had the same programs running my CPU Usage was around 30-40%~ and with Windows 7 is bounces between 80-100%.

I am playing a game called Tibia and I am using a bot that plays for me and while it does that for me I like to stream movies on a website called Icefilms.info. But the thing is, Firefox is really taking a large amount of CPU power (150 000 kB). When I was using Windows XP it was the other way around, the game took the larger amount of power and Firefox was barely noticeable.

Computer: AMD Athlon(tm) 64X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2.10 GHz
4,00 GM RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT
ASUS M4A77D Motherboard

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit SP1

I have read around a little bit but I have not found any solution for my problem so that is why I turn to you guys. I hope you can help me.

Thanks,

Answer:High CPU Usage

What is using the most CPU?

You say FF is using a lot, but then you say "150 000 kb" which is not a measurement that has anything to do with CPU. What exactly are you looking at?

Hi,
I've been having problems for a while now and I only just started to notice it, I'm playing on my computer and sometimes I get lag spikes while playing games and i open task manager and its says 90%-98% is being used sometimes and I don't know what a one time fix is but a way I can make it be fixed for 2 days or so and is I would go in to Control panel>system>Remote settings>advanced>settings>change and then I un-tick and re-tick the 'automatically manage paging file size for all drivers' and then a restart and everything works great again.
But after 2 days or so like I said it starts going higher usage and lagging again when lots of stuff is loading in.
Here is my PC specs:

Unfortunately there's not enough information shown to attempt a diagnosis. In Task Manager, click on the "Memory" column-heading button (where it says 92% Memory) once or twice to sort the processes so that the most memory hungry are at the top then post another screenshot.
Also, click the "Performance" tab and confirm that it shows you've got 8GB installed.

Question: High CPU usage.

Hello,

I Have a Dell Inspiron e1505
2 GB of ram (1 gb in 2 different slots---this is the max)
Intel Core Duo CPU (T5300 @ 1.73 GHz)

About 2 months ago I reloaded the computer with Windows 7, 32-bit. It worked fabulously for about 2 weeks, then I started getting random spikes of my cpu sitting on 100%. There was not a program in the task manager that was eating all of my cpu, nor did everything add up to 100%. I thought I had a driver incompatibility for a long time and went through about a week of trying to update all my drivers with windows 7 driver. However, this problem never went away, and I decided to just reload again and be careful with any drivers or programs that I installed in order to catch the culprit that did this to my computer. However...immediately after reloading...the cpu was already spiking to 100%. (I didn't even get the one week of really great computer performance that I did last time I reloaded).

I have been searching online for people with this same problem, and one thing that seemed to really help was disabling the "High Defiition Audio Device" in the device manager. However, by doing this I cannot use the sound on my computer. And, I still have many cpu spikes.

(o-also--before i reloaded windows 7 for the second time, I reloaded with windows Xp with the thought that my computer was not compatible with windows 7. However, the problem was even worse in windows xp, so I immediately whipped the computer again and put windows 7 on for t... Read more

Question: High CPU usage

I am getting about 50-70% CPU usage while using firefox. Sometimes it goes down and sometimes it goes
insanely high. I checked processes in task manager but it doesn't seem that I have any processes that can
use that much CPU. I also checked for viruses with malwarebytes in safe mode deleted all of them but still I
get this much CPU usage.
I will attach a screenshot of processes.

Answer:High CPU usage

That is insane.. I have 72 processes and only use 3 % of my cpu . you have a utorrent exe process running and some high svchost exe processes.. Your Firefox is not that high.. I have had higher than that.. not sure what your issue is.. but.. it is not firefox doing it.

Question: High CPU Usage

I wonder if an expert can explain what happens on my PC.I run XP Pro SP3 on a Celeron 2.66 GHz with 2 GB Ram and I have Zone Alarm and Avira installed. Typically I read some online news, play Websudoku , do Family Tree research and check emails after switching on and usually remain online with one or more web pages open. I always shut down overnight. After about an hour online (the time varies quite a bit) I notice that mouse operation and website access become "clunky" - by which I mean there seems to be noticeable delays to normal operation occurring and viewing onliine video is especially poor and jerky. I have regularly run Adaware, Spybot and used Advanced System Care to try to find problems but nothing comes up except the odd cookie from time to time.In Msconfig ONLY Zone alarm and AVG are set to start on the boot menu, all others are unticked. To try to sort things out I have engaged the Internet Lock in Zone Alarm which I believe isolates me from the internet, closed Firefox and all open programmes and windows, then using Windows Task Managaer I have tried to isolate the culprit process but without success. What I find is that when I experience the clunkiness the System Idle Process can be showing as high as 99% yet at the same moment the CPU usage can be up to 97% - both numbers do fluctuate as I watch but both stay at high figures.I have tried leaving the PC idle when it's like this, yet even after an hour it doesn't unload the CPU or restore the lost performance, so... Answer:High CPU Usage

It is normal for System Idle Process to be between 95-99%, but I don't understand how CPU usage could show 97% at the SAME time?System Idle, means just that. So unless you are running some CPU intensive program(s), System Idle should show in the 90's%.

Im running a C2D E7300 @ stock speeds w/ 4GB of RAM and for some strange reason whenever I load a new page in firefox CPU usage jumps way high. As I'm typing it usage is hovering between 3-5%. whenever I click a link to load a new page it will jump to 35-40%. is this normal? RAM usage is stable. It sits around 1.3GB used when i have all my baseline programs running (Comodo, AVG).
Any ideas?

Answer:CPU usage too high?

I think that's normal. Mine spikes up to about 36% for an instant when I load a new page. It doesn't stay there long. Probably less than a second.

Answer:High CPU Usage

Try replacing AVG with the free Microsoft Security Essentials. AVG has been nothing but trouble lately.

Uninstall AVG with the AVG Remover.

And, do stay away from registry cleaners, like the one from CCleaner, if you don't want to cripple programs and your operating system beyond repair.

Question: high ram usage

most of the time i have ram usage like 40-60, but all of the processes are using like 400 mb and i have 4gb ram.

Answer:high ram usage

Don't expect that the sum of the memory usage column will equal total usage. This will never happen and it was never intended that it would. The screenshot shows only your own but with none of the system processes. The numbers don't show all of a process's memory usage. There are also some very significant users of memory that are not processes, not all of which are shown in Task Manager.

Considering what is running the usage shown does not seem unreasonable on a 64 bit OS with 4 GB RAM.

Edit: Also be aware that the usage shown is by no means a fixed quantity. Memory management in any modern OS is highly dynamic. Memory usage at present may seem high but that is only because there is currently no better use for the memory. The memory manager will always try to find some use for as much memory as possible, even if it is only of trivial value. Free memory is wasted memory. But if a large application is started the usage of current processes will be trimmed back if necessary to meet the demand.

Question: HIGH CPU USAGE

Hi I previously posted this issue under VISTA SP2 Query. And have had a couple of pointers but nothing has worked yet so thought I would post it under another title to see if there are any more experts out there. Basically the problem is since I installed Vista SP2 my CPU has been working at 80 percent. I tried various things like run the performance monitor etc but nothing has changed. I then went one step further and uninstalled the SP but for some reason the CPU is still pushing out at 80 percent. Prior to all this happening it was only at 0.2 percent when idle. If you check my earlier posting you will see the results from task manager. I am getting quite concerned now what is causing this abnormality. I have scanned with Mal ware bytes and nothing detected, likewise with my Anti virus and nothing detected, I am now out of ideas hopefully someone has some ideas. Thanks in advance

Answer:HIGH CPU USAGE

"thought I would post it under another title to see if there are any more experts out there"It is pointless starting a new thread on the same subject, it merely serves to confuse matters. It will still reach the same "experts".However, a link to your original thread would have helped.

Question: High CPU Usage

Just after my computer boots up CPU usage is in the 5-10 % range. In stays that way until approximately the 25-30 minute mark when the CPU usage changes to 50-60%. This happens when the System Process increases from 0-50% CPU usage. This happens whether or not I am running any programs. Can anyone explain this jump in CPU usage?

Answer:High CPU Usage

I'll try .Programs are not the only items which run in XP/Windows...there's another category of items called Processes.A process may be either a Windows function executing...or it can be related to software which you have installed. An example of such will be the scanning function of your AV, the update function of various programs, etc.If you want to investigate processes running, you need to look at the individual programs/functions behind each listed process. Google can assist in this. It's not uncommon for multiple instances of svchost.exe to be running as a process. Question: High CPU usage

Hi All,
Running Windows 10 Pro x64
Just noticed a lot of lag on my online game when I was logging into it. I closed it and noticed my computer was slow responding.
I opened Task Manager to see CPU was 90% I looked to see what was causing this and did notice the Service Host: Local System (20). This is moving from 47% to 65% and slowly my CPU is now bouncing around with that Percentage. When I open a application if skyrockets to 90%.
One of the 20 is Windows update but when I go and manually check for updates it just keeps 'searching for updates' and after 5 mins I closed it.
I can't remember if that is normal to have CPU at that percentage. Anyone Know?
Also is it normal to have Service Host: Local System at (20) ?

cheers

Answer:High CPU usage

Do full system scan with your AV for starters. Sometimes difficult to locate what process is using this from service host, good article here, although applies to Windows 8 can be used to track the process.

Question: CPU Usage Too High

Hi All.

I have a Windows XP Pro SP3 (Intel Celeron 2.66GHz; 480MB RAM) PC. Now when it starts up, for the first 10 min about the CPU usage stays at 100%(in taskmanager) even though I'm not running any apps. The RAM usage is low(about 20%) when the CPU usage is at this peak. Now there aren't many processes and programs since I've recently formatted it and haven't installed many apps or used a lot of hard disk space. But after like 10mins, CPU usage drops to about 10-20% with no appa running. Why is that?

Thanks

Notice it running a little sluggish, then realized my cpu usage was reaching 40/50 percent when i was doing as little as watching a Youtube video at 480p and 72, runs fine with all my background programs

I'm sure this is not normal, is my CPU on the way out?
thanks in advance for any help =]
here's my specs

Processor AMD Phenom X4, 2.2GHz
4 Gig of RAM
1TB HDD
Graphics - Radeon HD 5570

Answer:CPU high usage

when you notice that the CPU is hittin 40-50% usage, what program or service is using it? ctrl - alt - delete will tell you what in that list is using the cpu.
once we have determined that its not a rogue service using your cpu...then we can decide whether or not its a hardware issue

Hope someone here can advise me. Been getting very low BT Broadband speeds, ranging from a maximum of 1.5 mb down to a paltry 340kbps at present. Rang them in India and he rang me back and with my permission he accessed my pc remotely. He says my CPU usage is 62% which is far too high and reckons that's causing the slow speed. Could he be right. Showed me all the processes in Tak Manager but said I'd to get a PC shop to delete some, or a BT service costing 25 per phne call. Can't I do it myself? Not a PC whizz so don't want to muck it all up.

Hi.
First time posting so I'm not sure of what info I need to post, but I got a laptop with XP a few months ago, and just recently started noticing a problem. When I boot the computer up, the processor is working constantly. The processor light is solid as soon as I turn the computer on and it boots up very slowly, much, much slower than before. Once XP loads, the same thing happens as it loads up stuff for the system tray... again, it never took long before.

In the task manager, the CPU usage is really weird... it changes between 10-30% when the computer is idle and no programs are open. When programs are running, I've noticed that some of the Mem Usage columns just climb and climb... they never go back down. Any time I do something in any program (i.e. open a new browser, go to a new page), the CPU usage jumps to between 90-100%.

I've done everything included in this thread, and there was no change in performance.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Question: High CPU usage ?

Dear all,

I have been having some problems with my pc freezing up on some web sites, particularly one that has animations and graphics.

I have done a bit of investigating and have noticed that when I am using my regular site, the CPU level in the task manager reads very high... in the range of between 80% and 100%. I feel confused because this wasnt happening a few months ago. The screen on the web site simply freezes from anything from between 2 and 5 seconds ? when this happens I looked at the task manager (performance tab) and saw this high reading.

Is there anything i can do about this to help prevent it happening, maybe an adjustment somewhere ??

I will list below my pc's information in hope that this will help anybody dealing with this problem

I am using...

WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PACK 3
INTEL(R) D CPU 3.O GHz
1 GIGABYTE OF RAM
NVIDA GFORCE 6800 GRAPHICS
Total paginging file size is 1536 mb

I hope this information will help

Kind regards

Question: PF usage very high

My pf usage gets to over 1GB too quickly. At the moment, firefox is only using 87mb and my pf usage is over 500mb. I know that FF is a big memory hog so it can't be the issue and I really don't think I need more ram. Although, I am willing to purchase some for the right price and quality.

Answer:PF usage very high

PF Usage parameter shown in Task Manager is not the PF currently being used but it is the size of memory that can be committed to PF in case Windows decides to use PF. Even if you disable PF in settings, Task Manager continues to show PF Usage. To know how much RAM is being used look in Physical Memory section of Task Manager.

Is there a way to disable wmpnetwk.exe, or stop it from using so much of my CPU? I have stopped the process in Task Manager but it starts up again all by itself. Sometimes when it is running it is using 25% of my CPU and over 2 gigs of RAM. I have Windows 7 Ultimate.
Is there any settings I can change to control this?

25% of CPU isnt too bad and i normally use around 1.28GB of RAM on this vista machine at work idle. Can remember what 7 runs at, will check when im home!
