New ram makes motherboard beep

Question: New ram makes motherboard beep

Hi guys

I have an intel DP55WB whitsburg a pair of matched 2gb sticks installed at the moment in slots 1 and 3 and nothing in 0 or 2.

I put a new 4gb stick of IBM ram in and get 3 long beeps and it keeps repeating. Everything goes back to normal when I take out the new stick. It happens in both slots 0 and 2.

Am I doing something wrong? With the new stick do I need to change the placement of my original ram?

Thanks!

Preferred Solution: New ram makes motherboard beep

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: New ram makes motherboard beep

This motherboard has support for DDR3 1333 /1066 MHz DIMMs. If you insert DDR3 1600 it probably will not work. Intel motherboards are famous for sticking to the specifications and not exceeding them. I own 2 Intel Motherboards.

I don't know if this is allowed but here is the Intel Specifications of the Motherboard.
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/motherboards/desktop-motherboards/desktop-board-dp55wb.html

Make sure you unplug the computer from the wall or the power strip before adjusting RAM DIMMS. All RAM is different. Normally you add it in Pairs to maintain the dual channel functionality. If you don't the RAM will slow down. It is not wise to mix and match different kinds of RAM. This can be related to capacity, latency, SPEED, voltage. Then some RAM may not work with other RAM due to incompatibility with the existing RAM. Some RAM may not work in your motherboard due to incompatibility with the motherboard. Some shorter DIMMS also use a different voltage and you cant mix different voltages. RAM is not just buy it and stick it in.

Answer:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi,
My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Thanks!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

Hi guys,

I have an Asus Z97A Motherboard/GTX 1080/24GB DDR3Gskill/ 500 GB SSD + 1to HDD and recently when i boot my PC i hear 1 long beep then quickly after 3 short beep.. I've searched in Asus website about the meaning of these beep and it's written that it's a Video card faulty..

But well just after these beep my pc is booting well ! and video card working well too, i've no problem playing games.

The strange thing also is that it's making these beep like 1 time every 2 or 3 days as i shut down my pc every night and when i'm going to work.

Do you have an idea of what i can do ??

EDIT : And by the way here's what i tried,

-Disable integrated graphic
-Clear CMOS
-Update Nvidia driver

Answer:1 Long beep + 3 short beep Asus motherboard

Answer:My laptop makes 3 beep sounds

Unplug the system, remove the battery (or disconnect it if it's internal) and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall the memory modules and hard drive.
Try powering up -- if you get the same three beeps, it's a bad mainboard.

Greetings all, and happy 4th of July!

I recently helped my mother buy and put together her first computer (EMachine), but after turning it on, it made a LOUD beep. The beep apparently is coming from the tower, because it did it again after turning off the speakers, and restarting. I know that some computers beep once during their POST checks to tell you everything is OK, but this beep is LOUD, and I'm hoping someone here can tell me a way to disable, or at least make it a little quieter. It scares everyone out of their socks, the first time they hear it boot I've done a Google search to try to figure it out myself, but all I could find out is that Emachines are indeed notorious for loud POST checks. No one actually suggests a fix for the problem. I don't remember much about the computer except that it's a new Emachine running XP Home. If additional tech specs are needed, I can find out. Thanks.

Answer:Emachine makes loud beep!

I know exactly what you mean... and that beep irritates the bejebus out of me so I always unhook the case speaker from the motherboard or dont install it in the first place unless I have ( rare ) hardware or OS issue then I plug it back in.

as far as I know their is no way other than unplugging the case speaker from the mobo to stop the beep.... by opening the case on a new PC you may well invalidate any warranty tho.

Just looking for some help on my gaming problems. I play medal of honor (all of the expansions) but my problem is I just got a new computer. A gateway with windows xp, gig of ram, 120 gb hd, pentium 4 3.2 Ghz, but my gameplay is different. In the game you can lean (left or right), strafe (left or right), and move forward and backworks. Well say I lean left, move to the left, and walk forward at the same time, that would move me in a diaganal motion. Well on my new computer, I hold those keys down and my keyboard beeps. It is sort of sluggish to my moves. I cant run to the left and lean and jump. Its like the keyboard can only handle so much. As you can imagine this effects my gaming because I have to change my whole way of playing. Its almost to the point where I wont play the game anymore because I can't play to the games full offerings. If anyone could help I would really appriciate it. Thanks

Joe

Hi, i am using DEL Inspiron 15 since Feb'14 and there was no issue till yesterday, when my laptop wont start and is making beep sound (7 beeps) on power up. Can you please help.

Answer:My laptop won't start and makes beep sound

Seven beeps usually means CPU Cache test failure or Processor failure. I like to suggest removing the battery from system and see if that will make a difference. Please follow steps below:
1. Power off the system. Remove all peripherals from the system, remove AC adapter and then battery.
2. Press the "Power On" button for 15 seconds to release Static Flea Power. Replace battery, and adapter, and then power on system. Hopefully computer starts normally and there're no more beeps.

i have an ibm laptop and during windows start up, it makes that "beep" like it just POSTed but louder and doesn't stop. i picked up the laptop while it was screaming to turn it off, and as i moved it, it changed pitch. this first happined when i was loading quake 2 on it, quake 2 had just finished loading and i was in the process of trying to play it. to get it to stop i just took out the battery. the sound sounded like it came out of the speakers, but changed when you push on a certin paRT of the laptop. how do i get to stop, is my laptop toast? i can get more info if u need it.

Answer:ibm laptop makes a very loud constant beep

What is the model and the model number called a type number on the bottom... the model will be something like 600X or T-23. But the type number will be a seven digit one like 2373-8SU.
The problem could be as simple as a stuck key, or as complex as a failed CPU Fan, failed memory, failed hard drive, or a motherboard gone bad.
If it is a repeated beep beep beep etc... with a pause then repeated beeps, count the beeps and tell us. That will usualy be a memory error or a cpu fan or a hard drive... depending on the model and the age.

Alright gents. This positively baffles me.

I am running a ASUS Essentio CG5275-AR003 (pentium processor i5, running windows 7). I opened it up one time, to put an eco geforce 9800GT GPU into the PCIEx16 slot. The computer is running plugged into a power strip.

When I turn on my gas stove, which is about ten feet away separated by a counter, the computer beeps. The noise is a quick, two tone "ba-dum" tone. It wont happen right away, so I can sit there with the clicking from my gas stove going, and the tone will go off irregularly. I can reproduce this indefinitely. There are no on-screen indications of why the noise is occurring. It is seriously weirding me out.

Answer:Satellite A205 makes loud steady beep after turning on

In my opinion this could be a keyboard malfunction.
It can?t be a hardware issue like a faulty RAM or mainboard because the notebook boots into Windows.

Maybe the internal keyboard is not connected properly or you holding a key at start up. I think a key is always pressed at boot.
Check the keyboard for dust or something like that or exchange it.

I own a lenovo ideapad Z560. It's still under warranty period. About 2 weeks back, I installed a fresh copy of windows. It's been working fine. Except since 2 days, during boot, it gets stuck. Weird high-pitched beep noises come and the hard drive light(the cylinder one) keeps flashing. I have no option but to manually switch off by pressing the power button and then taking my chances again. It usually boots up the second time, but I was wondering what the problem is. Is it a boot sector virus? or is it a hard drive failure? If so, does my warranty cover hard drive failures? Thanks

Hi Raj,
4 beeps is the indication of memory failure. Please reseat the memory & check. If the issue persists, place one memory at a time and check. Try both the memory modules in both the slots. This will help us to isolate which memory slot or memory is causing the issue.

Answer:My Laptop Makes Beep sound when I press power button and it wont Start

Hi AhLong
Thanks for writing to us.
5 beeps usually means CMOS failure, now it could be the battery failure or the motherboard failure. If your system is under warranty we can get it repaired or else you can check with a local Dell authorized repair center and get it checked.
You can try another CMOS battery if available.
Do provide us your system tag#, email address and name via private message.

This is going to sound crazy but my Asus N600/TD video card makes a solid beep/ring when I turn off my computer. This is NOT coming from the motherboard. I turned off my computer and pulled the video card out of the slot and it was still ringing.

As soon as I pull the DVI cable from the card it stops. Turning off the monitor also stops the beer/ringing. However, when I turn the monitor back on, it doesn't start beeping again.

I never heard of a speaker on a Video Card and this really isn't a big deal because everything works great but it's still doesn't seem right.

BTW this doesn't happen when the VGA cable is used. It seems like there is somethign up with the DVI cable or a power issue? I know that when you turn off a computer, the monitor is in a standby mode and not off yet; hence, the orange lights.

Here are the specs

P4 2.4 ghz
Asus P4t 533-c mobo
1GB RAMBUS RAM
Asus N6600/TD Video Card
Dell W2300 LCD Monitor/TV

WTF

Answer:ASUS N6600/TD Video Card makes a solid beep/ring when PC shutsdown

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

If I found the right card (see pic), the arrow will be pointing to the
onvideo board piasso speaker and right above that is where you plug in the power.
Most video cards that require a separate
molex power supply have these to warn you about power failure. Most often this will occure
durring boot up. First time mine didt it, I had forgotten to connect the power,
they scream like a dickens and like DonNagul, I needed a new pair of undies. :haha:

Barring a faulty DVI cable:
I'm going to assume you have the power connected to your video card, that what is
happening is your psu may be under powered when using digital cable to your Dell LCD.
I'm loose on this thought because you state it doesn't happen when using vga cable.
Also what is the native (digital) res for that Dell Lcd?
You may be running either the card or LCD outside normal range triggering alarm.
G'Luck

P.S. I was just noticing in the pic. just to the left and inbetween the power and speaker, there is a metal ring with copper wire wrapped loosely around it.
I have in the past heard these make similar noise on a MoBO. It would be interesting to know if this could be the cause....just a thought in the dark!

Answer:My inspiron 5010 makes continuous beep sound when I press power button and it wont Start

If it's a continuous single beep, it means the mainboard is bad.  If it's some other pattern such as four beeps - pause - four, etc., post the sequence and someone can help you interpret the error.

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

I would travel on over to Acer's site and type your serial # into their search bar and see what results you get...Another option would be to DLoad and install Everest Home which is mentioned a few times here...patio.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

I have recently acquired a K7S-2000 Motherboard and an AMD 800 Processor...problem is I can't find squat for information on this motherboard on the net. From what I found, I assume it is an AMD board, but they don't have any info at all on their site when I do a search. I am primarily trying to find out the specs, and what mhz ram and how much I can install. A user guide would be very nice.

Answer:Who makes the K7S-2000 Motherboard ???

The K7S series is an ECS motherboard. No luck on the "2000" bit though.

Sure about the model?

Hello all,

I turned my computer on this morning only to receive a beep code in the pattern of:

2 quick short beeps, 6 long ones.

My motherboard is an asus p4p800se.

It should be known that I didn't install anything, I checked all the plugs in the back, removing and re-inserting them along with the pci slots and hdd cables. Of course I did this while the PC was off lol.

Anyways, what's the problem here?

Answer:Motherboard beep issue

Try a different keyboard...open case and make sure ram is seated correctly...reseat the ram and you can clean the sticks with a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol.

Hi all.

I did some searching on these forums, and I see that others have also asked about beep codes; I even found this outside link:

PCGuide - TSX - BIOS Beep Codes

Anyway, I'll describe my situation, and please tell me what you think.

First, I'll try to answer some questions that might get asked anyway:
No, I am not overclocking.
No, there have been no recent "changes" to my system.
No, I don't think this is a "heat" issue, as the situation that I am about to describe was from a "cold boot" (computer had been off all night).

My motherboard is a Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R. In the manual, it says this about beep codes:

The following Award BIOS beep code descriptions may help you identify possible computer problems.
(For reference only.)
1 short: System boots successfully
2 short: CMOS setting error
1 long, 1 short: Memory or motherboard error
1 long, 2 short: Monitor or graphics card error
1 long, 3 short: Keyboard error
1 long, 9 short: BIOS ROM error
Continuous long beeps: Graphics card not inserted properly
Continuous short beeps: Power error

When I powered on my computer today - expecting to hear the usual one short beep that everything's A-Okay - I head many short beeps right in a row. I turn to look at the screen, and it had not even reached the BIOS splash screen. I hear my system and case fans blowing.....and all those beeps.

How many beeps? I'm not sure. I guess I was just shocked and not hearing the usu... Read more

Answer:Motherboard Beep Codes

Try reseating the video card.

I don't see any mention of beeps for a memory issue. A bad memory stick is a very common problem that usually causes a system to beep. If your PC has more than one stick of memory then you should try to boot the PC with just one stick installed. If that doesn't work then try it with the other stick of memory.

Okay, So, I get a frantic call from my mother at like 1am saying Windows is spitting out all these error messages and she "HAS" to get her email. So, I go over (yes, at 1:30a), and see all these error messages, so I reboot it and I hear 3 beeps (before the monitor comers on). I let it go and Windows doesn't boot, just sits at a black screen forever... Turns out, she's been impatient and continually hitting the power button if Windows didn't boot fast enough.... I get it to finally get into Windows, and saw "Write Delay Error to H:\" in the corner. I reboot, 3 beeps again, get into Windows, does it again. Then I Powered off. So, I disconnected all the Drives other than 1 dvd and the Windows hard drive. 3 Beeps. I power off again, remove a Ram chip, power on, 3 beeps. Remove a 2nd. 3 Beeps. Remove 3rd...Nothing. No Ram, No Beeps No Post. I (securely) Put a chip back in, turn it on, 3 beeps. Swapped it to another chip, same thing. Removed video card and swapped it with my gf's ... Same deal, 3 Beeps. Removed all PCI devices, powered up, 3 Beeps. Removed battery, re-inserted, 3 Beeps... So, to me, either the Ram chips are dead, or something poached the ram slots themselves... Anyone else have any ideas whatsoever? Right now, the system is running, with the 3-beep errors, it detects all the Ram and does boot into Windows...

Answer:3 Beep Motherboard (Ameritrends)

A quick bit of googling lead me to this on the American Megatrends website.
Explanation: There is a failure of some sort within the first 64 KB of system memory.
Diagnosis: The first bank of memory probably has a bad memory chip in it somewhere. It is possible that there is a failure related to the motherboard or a system device as well.

ok, i just got my new CPU and motherboard two days ago, i set them up and started them, got the occasional beeping and fixed all my problems except for one. ive gone onto american megatrends website and looked up beep codes but cant fiind one for this type of beep. when i start up my computer it gives me ONE SHORT BEEP. ive read that this means it was a successful post but im not sure. i cant find what a single short beep means anywhere, customer support was no help. i thought it was a faulty ram but i returned it and got another one but its the same thing. my cable connections are correct and am quite certain that my cpu and fan were installed correctly.
all i am curious about is if a single short beep does mean a successful boot, if not what does it mean?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Built a new system from scratch. MOBO didn't have an onboard beep speaker but had pins for a small 4 pin 2 wire connector. No case speaker.  Plugged in a small Rhino internal speaker observing the correct polarity.  It beeped on boot but you could only hear it with the case cover off or if you had a "steth-a-scope"  .  It was very low in volume.  I have racked my brain researching how to turn up the volume but hit one dead end after another.  MOBO Gagabyte GA-Z77-D3H (rev. 1.1) with no means of adjustment.  Any suggestions/help will be greatly applreciated.  Thank you.

When I recieved the Asus H97-PLUS, it was not really working for me so the seller was kind to trade my motherboard with a new MSI H97 Gaming 3 motherboard, I installed the motherboard and I just finished reinstalling windows, I have only 1 issue, when I startup my computer I don't hear that beep sound, I don't know if MSI motherboards have that beep sound since it is my first MSI motherboard but it worries me that maybe something is wrong.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks,

Answer:No beep from motherboard on startup

To make a mobo beep, you need a beeper connected to the speaker pins on the board (usually near the SATA ports) - looks like this

IIRC they usually come in the bag of screws, standoffs etc with a new case. You can prob get one from Amazon, fleaBay etc. I never use them, so have half a dozen in my spares box.

This error code I have looked up and appears to be related to the processor either being seated incorrectly, or going bad. It's a continuous high beep, followed up by a low beep, all back to back, no pause. I just wanted to swing into my favorite site here, and get any second opinions before delivering bad news to my customer. And since I'm on the topic, is there any software to test a cpu? I mean, I know how to scan a hard drive, and ram, but how do you know if the cpu/processor is the culprit and needs replaced? By the way, just looked at motherboard, the bios is pheonix and after looking at bios beep codes under pheonix, there is nothing listed for high and low beeping. Under award bios list, high/low beeping is listed as processor/cpu

Answer:Motherboard high/low beep

Replace the motherboard... They fail more often than CPUs. Actually, if you get beeps from a motherboard the CPU is good

Have you checked the graphics card is seated correctly, and if it has a fan, is it working? No you don't have to get the same motherboard, but that may cause some issues with either W2K or XP if your using them.

Hey, i got my Gigabyte EP43-DS3L motherboard today, so i put all my hardware in the motherboard, as you do. All working fine in the old motherboard apart from the CPU which was brand new.

I'm almost sure i connected everything connectly, but when i start up it just spins the fans and LED comes on, the graphics card fan is much faster and louder than previous too.
I don't get any image on my monitor and there are 4 LEDs that say Phase next to them on the motherboard

Phase 1 is green, phase 2 is green, phase 3 is orange and phase 4 is red. I'm not sure if that means anything.

Wnat could be wrong guys? Everythign appears to be plugged in and working, just the motherboard isn't startign up Cheers

My Dell XPS 13 (9343) has been non-operational for the better part of 4 months now. This is mostly my fault, as I was scared to bring it in for repairs, fearing a sky-high bill (my warranty expired in early 2016). I will describe the issue and I hope someone may have had my problem before or could offer some advice:
When the laptop is powered on, a yellow light facing the user (usually white to signal start-up) comes on and flashes intermittently. I don't know how to describe the noise that begins to sound other than 'an alarm'. Dell says it is a beep, I say a tornado is about to hit town. Whilst plugging my precious ear drums against this maelstrom, I count 5 beeps (months ago, when the problem had begun there were only 3 beeps *System board failure, says Dell online guide*). The guide I found online shows that this means a CMOS battery failure.
Does this mean that I need to replace the motherboard? Or simply the CMOS battery? And since my warranty has expired, am I free to safely open the device and replace these myself?
Thanks for the help!

Answer:Beep Code Indicates Motherboard Issue - What to do?

Try replacing the CMOS battery first -- that will cost just a few dollars.
If that doesn't solve the problem, the mainboard needs to be replaced.

I have a windows 8 laptop, that does not boot and for all intents and purposes I believe is dead. It powers on and fan spins, charges battery(though because of age, Ill have to get a new one anyway) I don't remember the exact model # so I can't remember whether or not it even has bluetooth capability my steps so far:-replaced screen-no problems with either hard drive, system files fully intact, i backed them up on my current laptop, and they spin via usb-all necessary lights come on upon plugging in, battery charges, and the fan spins-i alternated the ram sticks, one after the other, nothing.-i removed the cd rw drive, nothing- i disconnected nearly every pci/e that wasn't soldered in.-i attempted to boot with no ram or hard drives in tact- working hard drives don't spin on boot-no beeps from motherboard-tried to connect motherboard to usb mouse, to external monitor via hdmi/dvi(and forgot to ground first, so that was fun) -haven't tried a multimeter because i wouldn't know whichcomponent would need what-haven't replaced cmos  so i figured all was lost. and last night(unrelated) i was trying to pair a bluetooth device to my phone when I had left the battery in the housing/motherboard. And what do you know? In the list, I see a WIN8HPENVY.  This has me more confused as ever, is it possible for it to emit a bluetooth signal when nothing else is working? Normally I'd toss it but what can I say? Last Thursday my computer developed this issue.  It is a T60, purchased on 7/24/06 (warranty expired 7/24/09 gahhh) Anyway whenever I try to boot it up, the beep code of one long followed by two short is triggered.  The Lenovo site showed it could be memory, the screen, or the motherboard. I took it to best buy and they hooked it up to an external monitor, which had no effect, issue still occured.  They switched out the memory and the computer worked.  However, we re-installed my memory (which I had upgraded about two years ago to 2 GB) and the computer worked again.  ????  So it seemed the screen worked fine, as well as the memory.  I took it home and the next time I tried to boot it the issue happened againnnn. So when I hit the power button, all the lights (like Caps lock, battery, power outlet, etc) light up but then just the battery, plug in, and the circle Z looking power one are the only ones that are lit, and the beeeeeeeeeep beep beep is heard.  The screen remains black.  I'm thinking its the motherboard that needs replacing, but could it just be the video card?  Occassionaly, prior to this, the screen would shut off and stay black, but the hard drive would continue running.  I figured this was due to overheating or something, because sometimes it would get extremely hot. So has anyone had this problem before with the same beeps, and know how to resolve it?  How much does it cost to get a moth... Read more

Answer:T60 3 beep code; memory, lcd, or motherboard?

Welcome to the forum! You can't replace the video card by itself, because it's soldered to the motherboard. Try removing RAM sticks one at the time and see what happend. Good luck and keep us posted.

Right now I'm troubleshooting my brother-in-law's HP Pavillion.

Mobo: ASUS A7V-VM
CPU: AMD Athlon 1200

Not sure about the HD, and memory is part of the issue.

This system was running slowly, and I discovered that he only had 128MB of RAM, running Windows XP. I told him he needed more memory, and that I would go to the shop with him to make sure he got the right stuff.

A couple of weeks later he calls me up and asks me to come help him put his new memory in. I asked him how he knew what kind of memory to get, and he told me he took the 128 stick he had in there out, and took it to the shop. Fair enough, I said.

I got there, unplugged the machine, and carefully put both sticks of memory in, and turned it on. No response... no video, no beep codes, nothing but HD light and the whirring of fans. Anyone see what happened yet?

He told me he had a friend try to put the memory in for him, and it didn't work, so they took it out again and waited for me. Upon further questioning, I found out that he didn't unplug the power from the machine when he pulled out the RAM. I'm not even sure he turned the hard power switch off.

Anyways, I've already told him he needs a new motherboard, but I'm playing around with it anyways. I want to know more about what's wrong.

When I turn it on, like I said before, I get nothing. But, if I hit the reset button, I get beep codes. This mobo has Phoenix BIOS, but the beep codes I'm getting do not match anything on any lists posted ... Read more

System starts up and green light lights on MB but that's it - no beep - no system start up - All these components were checked for compatibility and there are/were supposed to be no issues ?

There are a few mb connector cables I'm not sure about...have attached jpgs on general issues

Where do I begin my trouble shooting to at least get a start up bios beep in this system ? . 1st of all on this motherboard's connectors is the white wire the - or ground - and the colored wire the + or positive re the power jpg attached ?

If you have smart FAN enabled in the bios about warning you then that can sometimes make the pc beep but not sure about the power LED thing.

Check your pc is all connected properly no loose wires especially your USB and your power connector to the mobo push all cables in make sure nothings come loose.

Right well Recently I have been playing games online and my pc had a very good spec (about a year ago). When I am playing these games (it has happened on two one being oblivion and the other a far more modest game called elastomania that would run on an acorn) ... after a short while a noise which i can only assume is the fans starts getting louder/frantic and before i know it there is an incessant beeping noise coming from what sounds like my hard drive. People seem split on decision that hard drives can/cannot beep. Like I said before it has nothing to do with my spec...apparently the sound thing on an asus is behind the hard drive cage which would explain that.

I took of the side and had a listen and it really sounded like my hard drive (Seagate ST3160812A 160GB 7200RPM ATA/133 8MB Cache - OEM). I then got some cotton buds and with the power off dusted down my fans very particularly just incase it was something being overheated. This failed also. I noticed that when you set the numberlock arrows to work as a mouse when you turn it off and on the noise comes from the smae place respectively which leads me to wonder if it is my motherboard (Asus A8N-SLI SE Socket 939 Nvidia NF4 SLI ATX - Sound, Giga Lan USB 2.0 1000MHz FSB SATA)?

Its srange how it only occurs on certain games and on games which take considerably less to run than others in certain cases. I am absolutely clueless as to what might be the problem. I have downloaded a program to detect the speed of my fans ... Read more

Answer:Motherboard beep when gaming on certain games.

Most often such a beep usually comes from the Motherboard Speaker, also known as the CMOS/BIOS Speaker. It is not uncommon for the motherboard to beep when x amount of keys are pressed in unison, or certain key combinations. There is no absolute, clear cut, fix or cause for this problem. Though it is often suggest that one flashs the BIOS and makes sure windows along with all drivers and game patchs are up to date.

I'm using a processor adapter in order to use a pentium chip that's not meant to be on my motherboard. It works fine and has been for two years. The processor adapter basically fools the motherboard cpu slot and tells it to use the pentium chip that is really meant to be used on another motherboard. The only downside this has is that the microcode is not in my bios and thus every time I boot my pc, the motherboard beeps once and shows the following notice:

"microcode not found - to continue press F1"

Once I press F1 windows begins to boot and all is fine. But I'm getting sick of the loud beep coming from my motherboard when that notice comes up. It's also bad when everyones sleeping and I decide to turn on my pc. I can try a bios update that may have the new microcode in it which is basically like some sort of new cpu number my motherboard would use to identify extra info on the processor. But there is no bios update with the new microcode for my motherboard. & even if there were one it would be a shot in the dark to know for a fact that it has the microcode update.

Isn't there a way for me to shut off my motherboards "beeping" speaker via windows or something? Theres no such option in the bios settings... So I don't know what to do. I'd like to shut the darn thing off.

Thanks

Answer:How Can I Mute The Beeping Sounds My Motherboard Makes?

Yup, there may be a tiny speaker the size of your thumb hooked up to the mobo's SPEAKER jumpers. Disconnect it.

First of all, thanks for having this forum. So I recently changed my motherboard and I'm assuming that is the problem. I can't seem to figure this out though so I came here because I heard this is where the pro's are. I only get the BSOD screen when playing Elite Dangerous. It's rather random too. For instance yesterday I played for like.. 4 hours straight and it was fine. Today I started up ED.. didn't even get to play for five minutes so I doubt it's my cpu overheating. Here's my zip file with the info there. Thanks again.

Answer:New motherboard, Elite Dangerous makes me BSOD :*(

Halp! I think it's an easy fix.. Almost positive it's a driver but I just can't seem to find the dang problem.

My main computer is a Pc built off the back of a 2001/2002 (year) HP Vectra VL400 motherboard. Most if not all of the components on the computer are expensive parts I installed myself. I've had this Pc for 4/5 years now. It has never failed me this way.

My first problem started occuring about a month ago when my top fan would start wailing due to what I thought was dust. The fan would wail with noise anytime I'd turn it on after a few days (the problem was repetative, yet not all the time). So I bought a new fan and put it in (identical fan model). The next thing I know is the new fan would do the same thing.

Than came random reboots I've been having for a couple of days now... Where the system will load up until the desktop and than reboot suddendly. Though it wouldn't happen all the time.

Now today the Pc started rebooting and all of a sudden the motherboard emitted 6 short beeps. I'm wondering what I should do?

As far as what I've read in the manual states that six beeps indicates a corrupt
bios!!!!! I took a small glance at the bios and it doesn't appear to have changed since the last time I've seen it, though I will confirm that later.

I don't know what this is all about, I've never hard a Pc problem that has gone this far.

Answer:Pc Random Reboots - Motherboard Beep Codes

actually if im not mistaken... a virus can corrupt the BIOS.. there are plenty of references on google.

Have you ever tried Avast! ? it specifically scans for viruses in the boot sector of your hard drive and you can set it to scan for viruses before windows starts.

Avast! is one of the very few programs that can do that.. and its free! even Norton doesn't do that (at least not to my knowledge, haven't used norton in a couple of years) and you have to pay for it.

Hi,

This is my first post so please forgive me if i am in the wrong place.

All of a sudden my computer has started to randomly beep, (windows XP SP3), the same sounding beep as if there is to much information going in, as if you were accidentally holding a key down for to long. (hope that makes sense?).

It first started when scrolling upwards and reaching the top of a PDF in adobe reader, i updated reader and that cured that. Now however it beeps as and when it feels like it. I suspected the mouse at first, (wireless USB Microsoft intellimouse explorer 2), so updated the drivers, changed the batteries etc. but to no avail.

I'm thinking CMOS battery? But if anybody can put me right i would be eternally grateful!

Many thanks in advance,

Petay

Answer:Xp randomly beeping, (motherboard sounding beep!)

if it's beeping in Windows, it typically comes from the hard drive, as motherboard (BIOS) beeps are only emitted during the POST (Power On Self Test) when you power up.

I would back up all your data to another location and test the hard drive with DOS-based diagnostic software which runs from a bootable CD. The links are here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

The DOS-based software is usually an ISO file from which you can make a CD using IMGBurn: http://www.filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

Boot your "beeping" PC from that CD to test the hard drive using the "Long/Extended" test if available.

Do not be tempted to use Windows-based diagnostic software to test the system drive. It's less hassle (no CD to make) but you have to install the Windows-based software on the same drive you want to test, and that's a no-no.

I need help with this issue..A few days ago i was playing Sonic Generations on my PC and my performance was a joke it slows down it had problems playing smoothly and i had 4GB on my Vista 32-bit OS so i always found it odd why my computer was not as fast as the RAM promises to boost its performance so i decided to recap on my issue with the performance and i set it to a very massive Performance dedicated machine and still nothing so i thought back to several things that slow down PC performances and since i had Vista and i simply dont have the money to buy a Windows 7 or 8 "I wouldnt even if i had the money honestly..."So i also did things like open Task Manager to quit undesired running programs in order to dedicate more performance improvements.. this worked from time to time but i sure did not like doing it daily than i remember my last RAM stick "DDR2 1GB" was the last stick i placed in my Motherboard and the RAM was not matching the channels Soo.. i actually removed the old RAM that was in Channel 2 leaving behind 3GB of RAM and then i started playing Sonic Generations the performance was off the chain it was more smoother and ran nicelly but than i remember that the boot up said that the amount of memory reduced and that the RAM sticks did not match so i placed my DDR1s in Channel 2 and DDR2s in Channel 1 the performance was great i loved it sure it was not enough to play the game more stable but it was enough to fully play the game in 720p back than this was not possib... I receive the following beeps (9 beeps or perhaps 8...not sure)...

Beep codes from AMI website:

8 short = Display Memory Read/Write test failure
9 short = ROM BIOS checksum failure

If 8 is the correct number is that memory on my video card or display memory thats on the montherboard?
If 9 is the correct number is the ROM damaged beyond repair? (open up that wallet )

Hi guys, this is probably the most helpless i've felt in a long while and i'm hoping you guys can help me out here.

So this is what happened,
1. I've been working on a very old HP Pavilion 6418 desktop which came with a Slot 1 PII - 400 Mhz processor.
2. Managed to purchase a Slot 1 adapter which supported Coppermine processors, installed it and things were going pretty well till this evening.
3. The computer is factory locked with a 100 Mhz FSB and I was desperate to get that up to 133 (to utilise the full potential of the 1 Ghz / 133 processor). Now the interesting thing to note is that the motherboard has only 1 of the 3-pin FSB (FS 2)terminals out of possible 4. The leads 1 and 2 are shorted out on the said terminal.
4. Having read a lot about overclocking and how easy it had been for some guys, I decided to experiment a little, so soldered the 1st & 2nd points of the 3 non existent FSB terminals section at back of the motherboard, i.e. FS 0, FS 1 and FS 3, and decided to take a look, if it was successful. Contrary to my expectations, the computer started but did not sound the system beep, on connecting it to the monitor, there was no display, system beep or the POST screen.
5. Then I removed the solders from the 3 FSB points and tried to check if the computer would come back to it earlier state. Sadly, this time too there was no system beep and when I connected it to a monitor, there was no video, POST screen, etc.

I'm hoping you guys can help m... Read more

Ok guys, I have a serious issue here. I was building a new case for my computer, everything is going great, I put all the parts back in. I start or try to start and I get a beep code. 1 long beep, long pause, 1 long beep, and it continues. I have removed and reseated everything including the processor. I have it currently narrowed down to the motherboard being damaged or the CPU fried. Does ANYONE have any idea how I could go about telling which part has died, because I can't really afford a new processor or motherboard since there are no more good motherboards that support AGP and socket 754 around...If it is the processor I will live with a **** 32bit sempron. But please, anyone have any idea?

Specs are in my sig.

I just upgraded my k450e computer with a new power supply (600 watts), and a new stick of RAM. Upon booting it up, I get 3 short beeps and 1 long beep, and nothing on my screen (as in, my monitor just shows a blank, black screen). I've tried switching out my RAM, by moving it to different slots, and putting my old RAM back in by itself, but no luck. Does anybody know what the error beep codes mean?

Hi I have been having this problem with my Alienware x51 where it does a certain code by beeping which I have searched through the internet and found out that the beeps showed that my motherboard is damaged/corrupted, when I start up my desktop and hear these codes no image was shown on the screen.
I was wondering if on a Alienware x51's motherboard had a reset button and if so where Is it but if not, is there's anyway I could send my pc back to dell to get it repaired even when my warranty has ran out

Answer:Beep codes and Motherboard reset Alienware x51

There is no reset button and you did not say what the beep codes were.
Low and slow beeep beeep beeep beeep is bad ram.

Try Resetting CMOS BIOS data, by unplugging the coin cell battery.
Try changing RAM, to only the one stick.

You're probably laughing, as I doubt you get anything other than a very mediocre motherboard.  I've read so many criticisms of Dell, their customer service, their poor parts quality, that I don't know if this machine is of the quality I would like.
The only thing I could find by calling Dell is that the board is PROBABLY (though they are not sure, which seems really shoddy),  is probably an INTEL LYNX . Z87., but is branded "Dell"
Also, doing a Google search on XPS 8700 motherboard, Tom's Hardware says it is the following:

Hi Muscibrain,

Hi, I have been using the Y480 for almost 2 years. However, when I boot up this morning, it just beep beep beep continously. and the screen just have a cursor blinking. But after I reboot again and press F2 to enter bios, and then quit bios settings, the notebook can be boot up successfully. I have backup everything I need What should I do to fix the error? Is my harddisk gonna be failed? I have lost all the purchase receipts but I have registered 2 years ago. Thanks!Peter

Answer:Y480 continous beep beep beep during startup

Beeps are error messages from the Motherboard. Either the MOBO is failing or you have a problem with your RAM, I dont think it is related to your HDD, but you should create a backup. Also, if you don't have, please create recovery disks immediately. You may want to do more research depending on the BIOS manufacturer and the beep codes. You can google these terms and you should find information on the procedure to validate this. You can also try to re-seat the RAM, maybe it got a bit unsettled, if you moved the laptop. All in all, if you took the externded warranty and you are still under it, you may want to send the laptop to Lenovo for repairs.

The XPS 630i motherboard failed (the Ethernet port and both PCI Express slots were not functioning).
I replaced the motherboard with one purchased on eBay and I used the CPU & memory sticks from the old motherboard, plus the GE Force GT640 video card and the hard drive with the previous installation of Windows7 on it, but then (due to health issues) it sat incompleted for a year. It just needed the waterblock and cooling system installed, which is just recently completed.
When attempting to start the computer, it plays a continuous beep for 25 seconds, pauses for 10 seconds, beeps again for 5 seconds, pauses again for 10 seconds, beeps again for 5 seconds, then stops.
There's no video display.
I realize I may have to reset BIOS / CMOS, yet with no video display, I'm seeking to respond to this beep's meaning, learn what that means first - and then generally how to set up this new installation from here. Thanks, Rob (archer5013)
